see the thing is it's really hard to have an onscreen narrator in a movie the way you have an onstage narrator in theatre so of course it makes sense to cut it and have the narration be done by the main character's voice as an overlay. perfectly normal and reasonable decision unless by doing that you have to cut every instance of the onstage narrator affecting the plot itself and therefore completely cut the emotional core of the story.

Why nothing makes sense part 7.
Wedding edition
Before I start my little post about why nothing makes sense about this whole wedding and marriage thing, I'd like to declare that I'm not saying or stating that they haven't gotten married or that there wasn't a wedding; this is simply about why nothing makes sense about it.
Tumblr media
So the whole wedding debate started when we saw Dennis (Chris's friend) go public and share in his story that Jamie, Bryan, and Mark were together in a bar. This made people immediately jump to the conclusion that they were there because Chris and Alba would get married. Then people posted that Hemsworth, RDJ, and Renner were at a restaurant. According to someone who said they were part of the group who met Hemsworth and Renner, Hemsworth told them that they were in Boston because of Evans's wedding. This was immediately really weird to me, since I doubt Hemsworth would've told random strangers that they were getting married. Chris and Alba didn't talk about getting married publicly, so it was a secret. The public didn't know about the wedding date, if they were engaged, or if they were going to get married. I'm pretty sure Hemsworth knew about this and wouldn't spill any tea, especially to complete strangers. Then things were silent until Dennis went public again and posted a picture of himself and his wife dressed up elegantly. This, again, fueled the fire.
After all of these, we got the Page Six article about them reportedly being married. Obviously, after that, almost every outlet ran with this news and posted their own article, everybody quoting Page Six, even People. Page Six wrote that those who attended the wedding had to sign an NDA and couldn't have their phones with them. This whole NDA thing sounds so interesting to me. We talked about Hemsworth spilling that they are getting married, and I said that I don't think he would do that to a friend, but the fact that he even signed an NDA makes the whole thing even less sensible. I also found the phone thing very interesting. Does that mean he doesn't trust his friends? If they knew they were going to sell the story and share breadcrumbs of it, and even of the second wedding, why couldn't the guests have their phones? So they can control what, when, and how it gets out? So we know that according to the source, they had a private wedding and only invited their close family and friends, yet there were several people missing. I missed Scarlett, Octavia, Mackie, Seb, and from her side, her cousin, who was on vacation with her entire family. Every article mentioned the Avengers, his Marvel co-star being there, but what about those close family members? Why wasn't there any mention of them? According to the article, Emily and John were also there, but I don't think they were actually there. They only mentioned her because they have a movie together.
After people found Scarlett's non-presence weird, they posted an article saying they saw Scarlett and Robert together in Boston. It's really interesting that this article was published after people questioned her whereabouts, and it's also really interesting that there were no sightings of her. So people saw the other Avengers out together in a restaurant and took pictures of them, and even if just one person saw Scar and Robert out, I doubt they wouldn't have taken a picture of those two.
Talking about sightings. Why did nobody see or hear the wedding? I'm not even talking about pictures, but like a DM anon, a blind item, or somebody tweeting something about it. People see him walking Dodger and doing everyday stuff, but nobody sees anything unusual; nobody spots the avenger there? No matter which house or location we are talking about, it's weird that nobody saw, heard, or witnessed anything.
We also have some problems with the location. So Page Six said the ceremony took place in Massachusetts, at their Boston-area home, while People said the wedding was in Cape Cod. While both places are in Massachusetts, they aren't really close to each other. People also said that Hemsworth, Downey, and their wives were photographed having dinner, which we all know is not true because it was his mom. Was Elsa at the wedding? Probably not, and why was his mom there when she doesn't even know Evans or anybody else there? Who knows. Then we got another article from People saying that they were serious very quickly; this was another source exclusive. In this article, the place of the wedding was still Cape Cod. Then there was another People article that said that they had a party in his Boston-area home to celebrate their marriage. According to another exclusive source "a large tent and dance floor were set up at the house", we know this must have been someone who was there because, as I've already mentioned, nobody sent an anon to DM, came to Tumblr, tweeted, or wrote a blind item that they saw, heard, or witnessed anything wedding-related. This article was published on the 12th, which is basically three days after the wedding. People said that the wedding weekend also included a gathering in Cape Cod, which is such an interesting wording since I don't think anybody would call a wedding a "gathering". A wedding is a wedding to me. Here they again said that Elsa was also there, which is still interesting since in the restaurant that was most definitely Hemsworth's mom, not wife. So why wasn't Elsa there? Where was she? And what was Hemsworth's mom doing there in the first place? On the same day, Page Six posted another article where they referred to the People article about the Boston party. Page Six said that the main wedding celebration was in Boston, yet they had another gathering in Cape Cod. So it seems like they still couldn't decide where the wedding was.
I doubt they would've had two gatherings or that they would've held the wedding and the party at a different spot. The Cape Cod private estate would've been perfect, maybe even a better choice for the party, but they definitely could've just gotten married and had a party at his Boston-area home. I didn't really understand why they would've wanted to hold the ceremony and the party in different places, especially since both Concord and Carlisle are almost like a 2-hour car ride from Cape Cod.
The last article we've gotten so far about them was the Portugal wedding one by Page Six. According to another source, there will be a second wedding in Portugal for her family, which is weird since most of them, those who are really important to her, definitely could've attended the MA one. The source called this one also a "gathering" and didn't even know when it would actually be, just that it was going to be "sometimes this week".
The only constant thing in these articles was "Reps for both actors did not immediately respond to XY's request for comment."
The last article was posted on September 12th, and after that, there was no article, but his friends started posting from Portugal. Other than Dennis, I wouldn't say anybody too interesting posted. It's really weird that the Page Six/People articles stopped before his friends started sharing breadcrumbs that they were all there in PT. So we've seen at least one story shared by at least one of them since that day. I know what some people say: "Maybe they just wanted to share some pictures about the places they had been", which I'd understand if this wasn't supposed to be a private wedding and if they weren't a private couple. I'd assume that Chris had asked them to keep it low, at least until they aren't back in the States, but as of right now, it seems like Chris has asked them exactly the opposite.
My other question about this whole PT thing is why they haven't been spotted by someone. So you want to tell me that Chris is in PT, even after he married someone, and that someone happens to be quite well known in PT, and still nothing? Are they hiding in their hotel room? Are they never going out? Or nobody saw, heard, or witnessed anything wedding-related? Why is nobody seeing or hearing anything?
Something else that is really interesting to me is that only his friends are part of this breadcrumbing. Not the closest ones, or those who've already been part of this like Tara or Chelsea, but those are known enough so people will check their pages and stories, especially since Bryan (the wedding planner, followed by Scott) posted that story of him having drinks with a woman and a man, which started the whole PT wedding fire. It seems like only his friends are "allowed" or rather asked to post something about their whereabouts, so people will keep talking about their PT wedding. I guess Chris only trusts his friends to spread the narrative.
So according to Page Six, the wedding happened on September 9th. To me, this date is also weird. So the article about Pain Hustlers premiering in Toronto came out on July 24.
Tumblr media
According to the official site, the premiere would've been on the 11th, so only like 2 days after the wedding and a few days prior to the Portugal one.
Tumblr media
However, on the site, there are several events on September 12 and on September 15, so on the Portugal wedding week.
Tumblr media
While we only got to know this on July 24, I'm 100% sure Chris and Emily knew way before that they would need to go to TIFF and be there, maybe even before they started organizing a wedding, which is not a few months thing, so they most definitely needed to start doing it much before even the strike started on July 14th.
Tumblr media
So on July 14th, Chris and Emily were informed that they probably wouldn't be able to attend TIFF or do any type of press for the movie. The movie comes out on October 27th, and after TIFF, they probably would've needed to do several interviews, and just like with TGM, maybe they also would've needed to attend several red carpet events in the States and in Europe. What I want to say is that I find it very unlikely that this was the original date of their wedding. Maybe they were supposed to get married prior to PH or after (I think I'd rather say after), but why did they change the date? Why? Why were they in such a rush? They had not even 2 months from July 14 to September 9, and by July they probably sent out the invitations, booked a caterer, chellist, violinist, or whatever to the original date, and ordered a cake to that original date. So they called up every person they invited, every person who was involved in the wedding, to let them know they changed the date and the wedding would be earlier? And in this case, we don't even just talk about one wedding, but two. I get that he is a huge star, but I doubt that people would've been really happy about him just casually changing the wedding date since this most definitely wasn't the original one and since he wouldn't and probably couldn't have been able to miss TIFF and his other responsibilities tied to Pain Hustlers.
Page Six also said they are off to their honeymoon after the Portugal wedding, but if this was the original, he couldn't have gone on a honeymoon since he would have had a movie to promote. We don't know where they are going for a honeymoon, but even if they are going with a private plane, they need to stay somewhere, which, again, they probably booked prior to everything, so they would've had a ton of problems with that one too.
It's really interesting that they said they had a private wedding, people needed to sign NDAs, and they couldn't have their phones, yet there were several articles about them almost every single day. I don't think these were actual people who were at the wedding or who knew them; it was most likely his team. It made me really think about why two people who are so in love and happier than ever and just got married need this much traffic and attention, especially when they know that people don't really like them together. I'd assume they would want to keep their marriage to themselves; they don't want people to talk about it and gossip about it because it's something personal and intimate for them. That their friends would help them keep it secret and wouldn't post breadcrumbs that something might be happening. Chris had always been a quiet guy, especially when it came to his romantic relationships. I remember that almost everybody agreed that if he gets married, we probably won't even know that he's been dating someone until after the wedding. Or that he won't even announce anything, that there won't be articles and breadcrumbs, just him appearing with his wife somewhere or mentioning it in an interview. And now here we are, his friends sharing breadcrumbs, several articles out every single day. I'd assume that, just like in the past, he would want to protect his and his partner's privacy, that he would want to keep their personal moments for themselves, especially in this situation when he knows, and both of them know, that a lot of people don't like them being together, and they get a lot of hate, that a lot of people think they look weird, unnatural, and totally not in love. It seems like they are trying to sell the wedding, that they are trying to sell "we are so happy together", but are they trying to convince us or themselves that they are happy together? Because if you need to prove something this much-if you need to prove this hard that you're so happy-then you probably are not.

Tucson || July 1988
It didn’t matter what Colum or the label or anyone else said – all recording studios looked the same on the inside.
Sure, there were always small differences. The really comfortable couches at Sound City in Los Angeles. Electric Lady in Manhattan still had the really cool paint scheme that Jimi Hendrix himself had designed. Muscle Shoals in Alabama oozed coolness.
But this studio, whose name he couldn’t and didn’t care to remember, nestled down a back street in Tuscon was…tired.
Almost as tired as Jamie.
The “quick three week tour” had stretched to eight weeks, with no end in sight. Theater shows had been upgraded to arenas. Playing to thousands and thousands of ecstatic fans. Pouring their hearts out night after night after night, and squeezing in radio promos and sound checks and business meetings during the day.
Fucking exhilarating.
Everybody wanted a piece of Print – their music, their story. Jamie still hadn’t granted too many interviews this tour, but the press ate up every word he said about sobriety and music and forgiveness. Insatiable for details about the woman he had met in rehab, and written all the new songs about, and refused to name publicly.
Print was making more money than they knew what to do with. The label had sprung for a private plane, and nobody in the band missed the rickety and smelly tour bus (except Claire, because it was still all so new to her, which Jamie added to the list of thousands of reasons why he loved her). Their hotel rooms were bigger. Catering in the dressing rooms was much nicer.
Fucking exhausting.
So many people wanted a piece of Jamie every day. Ian and Angus, to run through the new material that just kept pouring out of them. Colum, to talk ticket sales and adding second and third nights in each city. The suits from the label, who kept finding them in Dallas and Kansas City and Detroit, slapping Jamie’s back and pushing terrible ideas for duets with pop stars or contributing to a movie soundtrack or pleading to do the acoustic set in a special for MTV.
And on top of that, some dirtbag reporter from the National Enquirer had figured out who Claire was, somehow got a hold of her personnel file from the hospital, and tracked down her shitty ex-husband for an exclusive interview. Splashed her life all over the tabloids, complete with very grainy photographs of the she and Jamie together, holding hands, on a rare day off in Nashville when he took her to a few honky-tonks. The one saving grace was that thankfully, nobody at The Ridge had said a word about anything about her time there, or the time they shared together.
Claire took it all in stride. She always understood. Holding him in the bathtub of their suite in Denver as he shook from another panic attack. Smiling over a three AM hamburger at a diner in Topeka. Whimpering as he came off stage in Atlanta, sweaty and keyed up from singing about her, hoisting her in his arms for a long kiss against the lighting equipment at side stage, heart stuttering to see his eye makeup smudged against her cheeks.
The man he was on the last tour – unhappy, unfulfilled, so deep in an addition he didn’t care to acknowledge – would not recognize the man he’d become on this tour.
“In ’86, we played seventy eight dates. We had a number one record. I bought my house, and my motorcycle, and my car.” Quietly he sipped coffee in their suite in Seattle, watching the city wake up, running his thumb over Claire’s shoulder as she settled against him in front of the window.
“You had everything you had always dreamed of.”
He snorted. “I was a mess. All I could think about during every show was how to find a girl or a bottle or a baggie as quickly as possible. And the crew would always do that for me.”
The crew respected his – and Claire’s – request for no drugs or alcohol backstage this tour. What the techs and roadies and production crew did on their own time, in their own hotel rooms, with whoever they wanted to – Jamie didn’t care. But for everyone to help with, to respect, his sobriety was a gift. And he never stopped saying thank you.
“If only those reporters could see you now – Jamie Fraser swaggering off stage for an Evian.”
He smiled. “And to kiss this beautiful doctor who for some reason keeps following him around. Because he loves her, more than any man has ever loved any woman.”
He wanted to provide for her. To shelter and protect her. To never leave her side ever again.
She didn’t need him to do any of that, of course. They’d talked about it many times. But she wanted him to do that. And the fact that she chose him, kept choosing him…that was why they kept going. Kept each other sober. Kept holding each other up.
They’d agreed that this time on tour was for her to understand this part of him – and to help both of them decide how and where they would live once the tour was done.
Which is why the radio silence from Boston, four weeks after mailing the letter from Philadelphia asking, politely, just what the hell was going on…was so fucking crushing.
The stress of that – and the grind of touring – did make it just a bit more difficult every day.
Thankfully Colum had scheduled a week-long break at the end of the month. Angus was already planning a trip to Aruba with the two groupies, who truth be told had grown on the rest of the band. Ian was planning to spend the week with his wife, Jamie’s sister Jenny, and their kids.
And Jamie and Claire – well, they’d be getting married.
Only a few people knew, with good reason. Ian and Jenny, of course. Alec and Faith, in New York. Colum. Dougal MacKenzie and his wife Gillian, who had helped both Jamie and Claire so much at The Ridge. Uncle Lamb, who would officiate. And Claire’s friends Joe and Gail Abernathy, who had quite literally saved her life by getting her to The Ridge in the first place.
The service would be simple. Exactly what they wanted – what they needed.
And after that…well. They would truly be husband and wife.
But there was a lot to do – a lot to take care of – between now and then. Not the least of which was, wrapping up this recording session.
The time laying down acoustic tracks in Philadelphia last month was very well spent. They weren't so rusty. But the guys were eager to hear the songs in electric form. And since they were in Tucson, and Colum knew Bobby Higgins – who not only owned this studio, but who had also produced that really killer Ratt album in ’84…
“OK, Jamie.”
Jamie took a deep breath, and looked up through the glass at Bobby, hunched over the console in the control room.
“Ready for take two?”
Jamie looked left, to Angus – and right, to Ian.
“Yup.”
“OK – this is In My Veins, take two.”
Jamie grit his teeth.
Caught Claire’s eye in the control room.
She smiled.
He relaxed.
Angus counted in on his drumsticks, and then started the heavy beat like they’d discussed.
Four bars – and Jamie’s guitar and Ian’s bass joined in.
--
“That was really, really great, Jamie.”
Claire handed him a new bottle of water, cap already twisted off. He drank it in four deep gulps.
“I know you’re not shitting me. So thank you.”
Quickly she looked over her shoulder – Angus’ cheeks were being loudly kissed by the groupies, and Ian played around with his bass, and Colum and Bobby were deep in conversation in the control room.
“Where are you?”
She had pulled him away before, when the panic attacks were coming, and he knew she’d do it again right now if needed.
He wiped his mouth with the back of a sweaty hand. “About an eight out of ten.”
“Do you need a break?”
He met her eyes. “I need a meeting. Been thinking about my old friend Jack Daniels all day.”
“Did you see something?”
He sighed. “I’ve only played electric a handful of times since I got back from The Ridge.” He looked down at the gorgeous Stratocaster strapped across his chest, fist flexing. “I got this guitar because the black tone and white trim matched the label on the bottle. Stupid, I know. But it’s all I could think about today.”
“Not stupid. We’ll deal with it. You should call Alec. And I can find you a meeting.”
He leaned in, and kissed her forehead. “I love you. I’ll call him. And I need to sell this guitar.”
She nodded. “We’ll find a charity.”
He kissed her again. “I love you.”
She kissed him quickly, and returned to the control room.
Grateful that Jamie had turned away to talk to the guys, when Colum tapped her on the shoulder, and slid over an envelope postmarked Boston.
“Mail call. Do I want to know?”
She shook her head, folded the letter, and slid it into the back pocket of her jeans. “Is there a Yellow Pages I can borrow?”

I’m a big Hamlet fan and I am curious as to what your favorite movie/for screen rendition is? I’ve been working my way through a lot of them, gone through about 7, so far Hamlet at Elsinore with Christopher Plummer is my favorite. I was just curious what yours is !
What a great question!!
Hamlet at Elsinore is definitely my favorite filmed version of the play. I feel that Christopher Plummer does a fantastic - and frankly critically underappreciated - job of portraying the more nuanced and complicated aspects of Hamlet's character while still giving a straightforward performance that's highly accessible to any audience. Notably, he doesn't treat the performance as his ~*~epic, defining role of a lifetime~*~ or ~high artistic theater~ (*cough* Branagh and Jacobi), but instead focuses on telling a deeply compelling, very moving story about the complex nature of grief and revenge. I also like that this version embraces the more "postmodern" elements that exist in the written text of Hamlet: the complicity of the audience, the inevitability of the outcome, Hamlet's genre-awareness and genre-defiance, etc.
[Not to keep hating on Branagh, but in contrast: Branagh's Hamlet in particular seems to go out of its way to avoid including the more interesting proto-postmodern thematic elements of the play - at times not seeming to recognize that they're even there. He instead focuses his time and energy on inserting new cinematography-based visual themes that go nowhere and at times stand in OPPOSITION to the actual tone and themes of the original text. Because apparently Hamlet the play is too boring and instead of lame elements like "themes" and "compelling characterization," we need a swinging chandelier sword fight scenes and Freudian weirdness. Truly the Joel Schumacher Phantom of the Opera adaptation of Shakespeare films. But I DIGRESS-)
Plus it doesn't hurt that everybody aside from Plummer in Hamlet at Elsinore is also fabulous. Obviously, Michael Caine's Horatio is the single best and most definitive version of the character in film, but I also love Robert Shaw's Claudius and Muller's Ophelia.
If we're talking favorite filmed versions of the STORY of Hamlet though, that's Asta Nielsen's silent film from 1921. It's so beautifully filmed and wonderfully told. She's what I picture when I picture Hamlet.
Other than that....I like Tennant and Stewarts' RSC filmed version well enough. It has a number of very strange choices and I don't love the re-ordering of the scenes, but Tennant does a great job with the character and I think it's a very approachable performance. A few other filmed stage versions are also excellent, though with a few similarly weird elements - I'd put Maxine Peake's version on the same tier as the RSC version. I do NOT like Branagh's version at all (if you couldn't already tell...). Jacobi's and Gibson's are slightly better, but they're still too focused on the prestige of the performance rather than the actual story being told imo. I think they fall under the same criticism as Holden Caulfield's scathing review of Laurence Olivier: "more like a general than a sad, screwed-up type guy." (Yes I know this line is an in-text authorial critique of Holden himself but also: he's right and he should say it.)
If you haven't already, I do highly recommend listening to the BBC Radio 4 audiodrama version of Hamlet, starring Jamie Parker. Despite being a audio version of a stage play, it somehow blows every filmed version of Hamlet (except maybe HAE) out of the water. I listen to it at least once a year.
Finally, my actual favorite versions of Hamlet have ALWAYS been those I've seen live (or seen bootleg filmed stage performances of lmao). If it's ever playing live near you, definitely go and see it. The play was meant to be seen on a live stage in front of you, and many of the jokes and themes only make sense in that context. In my opinion, the medium of live theater elevates the play so far beyond what a movie could ever achieve.
...sorry this answer is so long 😅 Really, it doesn't matter what my opinions on Hamlet films are. If any version of the play really speaks to you - even if it's the accursed Branagh version - that is so awesome and makes me really happy people are engaging with the play in that way! (But since you're saying that HAE is your favorite so far, I will add that you have excellent, discerning taste ;))

Now that it’s been a week since I've watched Roald Dahl's Matilda: The Musical, here are all my thoughts (as someone who loves the musical and played Bruce once):
THE BABIES SINGING IN THE OPENING NUMBER WAS THE CUTEST SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN
The cast was INCREDIBLE!! Emma Thompson was terrifying! Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough were hilarious! Lashana Lynch was so endearing! AND I WANNA SEE ALISHA WEIR IN MORE STUFF BECAUSE SHE ATE IT UP
I want to give credit to the makeup team for Trunchbull's makeup because even though I knew it was Emma Thompson, they did such a good job of realistically transforming her into someone else. Her appearance wasn't a joke in the same way that it is in the musical. Her character in the stage version is definitely pretty misogynistic and transphobic because they play into her masculinity by having a man play her. Here, it's just a way of adding to her character, but it isn't what makes her scary.
All of the changes worked so well in adapting it for the screen. It wasn't just a copy-paste (couch cough everybody's talking about jamie) Examples of the changes that really worked:
Getting rid of Michael Wormwood. It makes sense since the Wormwoods clearly hate kids.
Giving Lavender a pet newt (very Chekhov's Guncore)
Including telekinesis throughout the whole story instead of just showing it a few times in the 3rd act. This includes Nigel asking Matilda if she has TK, Matilda messing with the doors in the cake scene, exploding the chokey, THE FUCKING CHAINS
Having the Spain news earlier in the story, causing a catalyst of events. Matilda is enraged, she sings I'm Here, she explodes the chokey (which was BONE-CHILLING), it gives Trunchbull a reason to make more chokies, and now Matilda is so emotional that she can take her powers to the extreme with the chalkboard and the chains and throwing Trunchbull out the window. All of this gave much better pacing in the story and made it all connected.
Having more scenes outside of the classroom (the cake scene and The Smell of Rebellion) and putting Ms. Phelps' library in her car. It's quirky and also gives them an excuse to put the storytelling scenes in pretty locations.
Giving Ms Honey a bike while her co-worker had a car, foreshadowing her being poor.
Putting Matilda's bedroom in the attic made so much sense because the Wormwoods obviously did the bare minimum for their child.
The students' drawings in Ms Honey's cottage
SO MANY FANTASY SEQUENCES! BRUCE!! WHEN I GROW UP!!! QUIET!!!!
All of the kids were so adorable (and ridiculously talented!)
The storytelling sequences!!! Interweaving it with the real world worked so well, like Matilda making it a real story for school but also clearly using it to cope. And putting them in a real circus made me more empathy for the Honeys, which lacked in the stage version because it always felt very thrown-in to me. Like, I genuinely got nervous during the stunt with the dynamite. It also made "I'm Here" even more emotional. Carl Spencer was amazing as Magnus and I teared up a bit. Also the parallels of I'm Here vs My House, helping Matilda put the pieces together.
The new song wasn't my favorite but it was a really nice finishing touch. Even though the circus at the school didn't logically make sense it was so fun
The only things I disliked: I wanted more of the already incredible stuff. More of the Wormwoods, who were absolutely hilarious, especially Mrs Wormwood. I really missed "Loud" (though removing it helped with the pacing). I wanted a bit more of Bruce (they didn’t give him the high note in Revolting Children 😭), and I would've liked Ms Honey to be a bit more affectionate with Matilda.
Anywho I want snort this movie like cocaine

I watch YouTube when I want to have some downtime... And I like my YouTube to be fun.
I thought I would share some female YouTubers I've been enjoying recently, I'd love to hear other people's recommendations!
If you like Nick DiRamio or Mike's Mic, TV and film review/comedy videos try -
Jamie French
Tumblr media
She reviews bad and nostalgic films, including skits where she green screens herself into scenes from the films. She points out production errors, lazy tropes and is pretty fun. The series started out being "movies and make up" but the make up is easy to ignore and as she's done more movie review videos she seems to be doing the on-screen make up less and less.
Recommended videos -
Sleepover is a dumpster fire
I think I found the worst dance movie of all time
Kierra loves TV
Tumblr media
Kierra summarises and discusses characters and tropes in her favourite TV shows. Her channel is pretty new, only 7 months old, and while i don't watch her videos on family guy, in her other videos she has a great voice and interesting perspectives on early 2000s TV - I enjoy her videos on Gilmore girls and Sex and the City
Recommended videos
Why everybody hates Carrie Bradshaw
The manipulation of Emily Gilmore
If you like Todd in the Shadows or other deep dives into musicians, one hit wonders, artists who didn't make it, try -
Naomi Cannibal
Tumblr media
Naomi talks about a range of topics including celebrity culture and TV shows, but I particularly enjoy her videos about musicians careers and history.
Recommended videos -
One album wonders : label conflicts and the rise of streaming
Teairra Mari - the girl who was almost Rihanna
If you like Stuart Hicks or Architecture related videos try -
Belinda Carr
Tumblr media
Belinda makes videos about architecture and modern building techniques and trends. I find her videos to be very informative, even if you're not that into architecture I recommend giving her a try!Recommended videos -
Bamboo Vs cork flooring - everything you need to know
How to build straw bale houses - pros and cons
If you like day in the life, spending challenges and solo travel try -
Clickfortaz
Tumblr media
I love Taz's videos, she is silly, very honest and quite naïve. Her friendship with her childhood friend Moon is really lovely, but most of her videos are just Taz trying new things. She has talked a lot about her mental health and has published and performed her poetry.
Recommended videos -
I tried to bake a cake with no recipe
Living in a treehouse for 48 hours
If you like furniture restoration or carpentry like Blacktail Studio try
Transcend Furniture Gallery
Tumblr media
Angie repairs, restores and up cycles furniture. The videos are informative but also very calm and satisfying and I really like her work!
Restoring table tops - stripping, sanding, staining, sealing
Do you like videos of model and miniature making like Thalasso Hobbyer? Try -
KaypeaCreations
Tumblr media
Karen makes a lot of animals, mythical and real, and her methods and techniques are really interesting to watch.
Recommended videos -
I made a realistic mooshroom from Minecraft

hello, i've been thinking about musical theatre nerd Baxter since the Phantom of the Opera ask, and now i need headcanons about it, please, personally, i also think we would've made a great Orpheus for Hadestown
I love all the theatre nerd Baxter talk, it's so fun to think about!
-- He started dancing when he was 8, so by the time he gets into high school, everyone definitely knows it's a thing. He's also very good! Because of this, he gets approached his freshman year when the theatre kids are putting on the ~spring musical~
-- They have kids that know how to dance, but he's getting to be known for his talent, so hey, why not ask him to help out?
-- He's got some free time and a pathological need to please, so like sure, he's down.
-- Instantly obsessed. He's not unfamiliar with theatre, and he's seen musicals (old black and white movies with all the dancing, he loves), but actually being involved in the production of one? What a blast for him! The drama of it all!
-- As a former costume crew member, Baxter also gives me costume crew vibes. Just sitting in the shop sewing stuff and talking trash about everybody else. Could hem the hell out of a pair of pants and make an actor cry at the same time.
-- Him with a measuring tape around his neck at the sewing machine, just working and suffering. No, you can't try on someone else's costume for fun. No, you can't borrow something for a party. Get out of his shop. Seriously, get out.
-- Stage Manage Baxter too. He has his binder, his headset and he is TIRED OF EVERYONE. Learn your lines. Build the set. He doesn't have TIME for this.
-- I'm just realizing that you didn't specify high school, that was in a comment somewhere, so this can be for college too, or an AU! Baxter is an old soul, he's always going to be like this.
-- Could also perform! He could sing if he wanted, so he'd be your classic triple threat with his dancing talent, and we all know his dramatic ass could handle the acting.
-- Baxter pretty much IS Bobby from "Company," but he couldn't play the role until he was the right age for the character, so no school productions, it would hit too close to home.
-- "Somebody hold me too close, somebody hurt me too deep, somebody sit in my chair and ruin my sleep and make me aware of being alive," like COME ON.
-- We've talked about Phantom Baxter more than once, so that's a thing too!
-- I would do anything to see him do Emcee in "Cabaret." Tell me he wouldn't kill it, you can't do it.
-- Jamie in "Last 5 Years" -- "The Schmuel Song" is something he'd actually do for MC, so that's cute.
-- I'll lose my mind -- Baxter proposing like "The Next Ten Minutes," just think. "Will you share your life with me for the next ten minutes, for a million summers till the world explodes, till there's no one left who has ever known us apart?"
-- He will absolutely belt his heart out when he's alone in the car. And the shower. And maybe while cooking and cleaning.
-- There is never going to be one single instance at all ever in which he doesn't know his lines or his choreography.
-- If this is school Baxter though, there's always a fight because he excels at both musicals AND period pieces, but he is only one person and can't be in everything. He's one of the strongest dancers but also just a natural at that elevated speech in more classic plays OBVIOUSLY.

JJ, Kie, and Pope sit in the living room of the chateau as they're on the phone with Sarah and planning a surprise birthday party for John B. Y/N is in the room her and JJ sleep in when they spend the night and she's watching a movie on Kie's phone.
"Daddy!" The three teens hear a young voice yell and glance as Y/N runs into the room. Kie asks Sarah to repeat what she said, not hearing her over the child. "Daddy, I lost my tooth!" She says, though JJ is telling Sarah something.
"Daddy, I lost my tooth." Y/N repeats.
"Yeah, hang on, honey." JJ dismisses her.
"My tooth fell out!" She exclaims, wanting the usual excitement she gets from him like when she lost her past five teeth.
"Hang on, Y/N/N." JJ says.
"Y/N, just give him a minute." Pope softly tells her.
"But my tooth fell out." She says. "Daddy, it fell out."
"Yeah, okay, great, we're busy, princess, so just go put it under your pillow and I'll slip some cash in there later." JJ says. "Sarah, listen, yo, I really think he--"
"Huh?" Y/N asks, looking at her father confused by his last statement to her. JJ lets out a frustrated sigh.
"Y/N, I will put money in there la--" JJ suddenly freezes as he realizes what he said. Kie and Pope share wide eyed looks.
"Uh... I'll call you guys later." Sarah says before hanging up.
"There's no tooth fairy?" Y/N pouts, her eyes shining with tears.
"No. No, baby--" JJ tries, but she runs off to the room, the door shutting behind her. "Fuck." He whispers, burying his face in his hands.
"I'll go check on her." Kie says, getting up from the couch and going to the room. She knocks on the door, slowly opening it, to find her niece crying and curled up in a ball on the bed.
"Hey, sweet girl." Kie softly greets, shutting the door behind her. Y/N doesn't respond and Kie sits in front of her on the bed. "How you doing?"
"There's no tooth fairy?" Y/N asks, sniffling.
"I think that's a talk you should have with your dad, honey." Kie tells her.
"Why can't you tell me?" Y/N asks.
"Cause he's your parent. He should tell you the truth." Kie says. "I just came in here to hug you."
Y/N uncurls herself and moves closer to Kie, accepting her aunt's tight and warm hug. They're sitting like that for a little while when there's a soft knock on the door followed it being opened and JJ appearing.
"I will text Sarah and see what's happening." Kie says. She kisses Y/N on the head before getting up, sending a stern look to JJ to not screw up again as she leaves the room, shutting the door behind her.
"Hey, princess." JJ softly greets. Y/N lays down on her stomach, her cheek on the pillow. JJ lets out a quiet huff as he sits next to the bed and faces her. He puts a hand on her back and rubs it, putting his chin on the bed so his face is near hers.
"There isn't a tooth fairy?" Y/N asks.
"No, no, no, no. There is-- there is definitely a tooth fairy." JJ tells her.
"Then why are you putting money under my pillow?" Y/N asks.
"Well, it's... well, you know how Santa has elves?" He asks and Y/N nods. "See, the parents are kind of like elves. The tooth fairy can't go around every night and collect everybody's teeth. That's way too many houses, he'd never get time to rest."
"So with each family, their parent is the tooth fairy. I'm the tooth fairy for you. Your friend Jamie, her mom is the tooth fairy for her. When your aunts and uncles have kids one day, they'll be the tooth fairy for their children."
"So it's always you giving me money?" Y/N asks.
"Yeah." JJ nods.
"Why not just give it to me when I lose my tooth?" Y/N questions.
"Because you get all excited in the morning which I love. It's tooth fairy tradition -- the kid wakes up to money. It's not as magical when you just get handed cash right then and there. It's better to wake up to it."
"Santa's real, right?" Y/N asks.
"100%." JJ nods. "So is the Easter Bunny."
Y/N smiles and she sits up, hugging JJ around his neck. JJ lets out a deep exhale, hugging her back out of relief that he didn't completely wreck her childhood.

Lou was coming up on her thirtieth birthday much faster than she wanted to admit. While she had no qualms about getting older, she wasn’t a fan of the unwanted changes that came along with it. For example, was that a shooting pain in her lower back just from playing hopscotch? These days, she would also much rather hang out with her sister and niece after a long week of work than go bar crawling on a Friday night. Especially if her sister promised a bottle of wine to share.
Tumblr media
Lou was proud of Maria for doing something new and creative for herself. Or, it may turn out, that something might benefit both of them if the wine ever turned out good.
“I dare you to drink it first,” Maria laughed.
“On three,” Lou said. “One, two, three, chug!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Huh, not bad. I like this for you,” Lou said. “It’s better than knitting, huh?”
“Don’t knock knitting,” Maria said. “It sounds very relaxing. But you like this better because you get to drink the wine with me. I don’t think you’d be as appreciative if I knitted you a scarf.”
“Truth. Just, like, just don’t go and develop a drinking problem on my behalf.”
Tumblr media
“So, Jamie wants to move in together,” Lou said.
“Oh my gosh, did she say that?”
“No, she would never. But her sister is all talking about moving in with Ian, which just makes Jamie have this constant look, like… the perfect mix of expectation and disappointment at the same time.”
“Moving in together is a big deal,” Maria said.
“I know, right? But do you think if we moved in together she’d stop swooning for a baby?”
Tumblr media
Maria’s eyes went wide. “No! She would do the exact opposite. Lou!”
“That’s why I’m not asking her to move in! I mean, I wouldn’t mind having her there full-time. We’re good in that way, but god, ever since this whole science baby breakthrough. It’s all she ever reads about, thinks about, talks about. Isn’t it wonderful? Isn’t it amazing? Everyone can have a real family together, even people like us… Like, what makes a ‘real’ family anyway? And besides, if I had her baby at my place, who would watch your baby all the time?”
“Thank you, by the way,” Maria said, “for agreeing to watch JoJo. She’s kind of sour over it, but I’ll bring her with me the next time. Twenty-four hours is gonna be rough, even if it’s also fun. I really think we need to focus on each other.”
Tumblr media
“In bed…” Lou crooned, and they both laughed. “Can he afford all these trips?”
“He’s paying for this one, I’ll pay for the next. It’s even. It should be, right? Aren’t you a feminist?”
Lou gave her sister a disapproving stare. “I don’t know, equality and all that, but… that money is for you and JoJo. That’s why Joseph left it to you, so you’d be taken care of. Not to spend on your boyfriend.”
“I know,” Maria said. “But anyway, he’s never asked me for money. He’s not like that. He’s not materialistic at all.”
Tumblr media
“Does he know you have it?”
“Uh, no, he probably doesn’t.” Maria took a long sip and settled into that new worry, while Lou’s thoughts drifted to her own concerns. She had planned to ask Jamie to sleep over tonight, but now the idea felt loaded. So she thought instead about organizing that girls’ night. Pajamas, board games, and campy movies was a lighter topic to think about. Maria could bring the wine. But trying to sync up everybody’s busy schedules was harder these days as they all settled into their nearly thirty-something careers and relationships.
“Lou,” Maria said delicately. “You said ‘her’ baby. Not yours together.”
Tumblr media
Lou felt called out. “I did, didn’t I?” Lou nodded, then she let out an exhale so heavy it could blow the whole subject away. Too much reality for a Friday night, and the buzz from this wine was finally kicking in.
Tumblr media
“This isn’t bad, by the way,” Lou said. “Kind of like cider, but not too sweet. It could definitely be stronger, though.”
“Then we’d definitely develop a drinking problem,” Maria said.
— from “boxes and squares #4.2: then have some faith” (2/5)
Tumblr media
story notes: = the reason Lou and Jamie are on again, off again, over and over again?
Also, so Maria is a little bit loaded? That’s not meant to be a secret, exactly, but it hasn’t been mentioned for a while. She mentioned it all the way back here, talking about how she didn’t really need to work, but liked to work when Jordan was on the schedule. She receives a military death benefit from the government on Joseph’s behalf, but Joseph also had a bit of family money which he left to Maria and Johanna. It’s not a ridiculous amount, but it’s enough.

Hey after the book and your response with the additions, what do you think of the following bit from the movie (COTBP) "You are without doubt the worst pirate I've heard of" "BUT you've heard of me" -> Watching it now, I think maybe Norrington's response was not only so explosive on the fact Jack is a pirate, but on WHICH pirate. Jack just reminded him of THAT moment again, and taunted him with it?
Oh, what an interesting question! ♥️
I can say that Sins of the father was, huh, mind-blowing!
I remember that before reading that book and even before shipping Sparrington, the scene you mentioned was a real SOMETHING to me. Like, I felt that there were some sparks, fire even, between Jack and James. Some strange (but fascinating) energy. These two are just like magnets, aren't they? So, not knowing facts from the book, I thought then that Jamie and Jack were fascinated with each other. Or: hypnotized by each other. I mean that kind of tension and magic between enemies (or just: opponents) who "can't exist without each other", whose paths are crossed, who are curious about each other and who, surprisingly (for them especially 😂), find some amusement and pleasure in their interaction.
This James' line came after he searched Jack's stuff. I thought that he just wanted to add something extra to his "you and your broken compass, ooo your sword isn't made of wood, can't be!". That he was in his "may I interest you in another sarcastic comment" mood 😉 And that he wanted to play with Jack a bit.
He said he heard of Captain Jack Sparrow but I just assumed that Jack was so super famous (the seven seas celebrity or something like that) that everybody heard of him. For sure every sailor, like James. And Jack's answer, "but you've heard of me" was like a bit of "you may say I'm the worst but ha! you know my name so, still, I'M FAMOUS baby" and a huge "now mouse wanna play with a cat". They both love ripostes and both love to have the final say 😄
Soon I heard there a lot of flirting, A LOT! And somehow I started shipping them.
But after reading the book? Whoah. I still think that they're flirting. But speaking about the "heard of me" part... I don't know, dear, I don't know! I mean, nothing is sure there and it's so intriguing.
Cause... Gosh!
Sometimes I think that James heard of "some Captain Sparrow" but he didn't remember that he already met that Sparrow all those years ago. Didn't remember or maybe his brain "blocked" that memory (after childhood trauma, ptsd... who knows). And Jack remembers all (and for sure when he hears "James Norrington" he's like "oh so that must be that little Lawrence's boy") but says nothing about their past cause he sees that James can't remember and Jack doesn't want to wake James' demons and bring him such pain.
But sometimes I also wonder: what if James remembers ALL? And only pretends in front of Jack, is like "I've never seen this man before!". Cause memories are still too painful? Cause he doesn't want to feel this again: shame, weakness, guilt and all that love/hate? - "I'm grateful cause this pirate and his father saved my life" and "but oh how I hate to feel it, how I hate my father yelling that I should have been dead!". Cause it's easier to "not remember", easier to "hate" Jack? Or maybe he just doesn't know what to say and hopes that Jack will never mention the past? And Jack? Maybe he too doesn't want to talk about it, maybe he doesn't want to be the first to start such talk? So they both are like "oh, okay, he pretends he doesn't know me so let's play his game".
Or... Maybe, as you said, they both are dropping hints in that scene? They are like "let's see how much you remember", "let me remind you...", "we know well who we are, baby, right". And they are playing some game indeed. Two damn crouching tigers, hidden dragons!
All I'm sure about is that James must remember some moments from That Day. For sure he remembers what his asshole father told him That Day cause in the movies he's literally citing those words:
Think again, Miss Swann. Vile creatures, the lot of them. I intend to see to it that any man who sails under a pirate flag gets what he deserves. A short drop and a sudden stop.
and here he's mirroring Lawrence's "I'd rather see my son at the bottom of the sea than him being saved by a pirate":
I'd rather see her [own ship] at the bottom of the ocean than in the hands of a pirate.
(gosh, I'm sorry if this answer is too messy - sometimes I think chaotically 😅)

"It's a really difficult one to, to try and sum up, but it's about this man who's lost his parents when he was a boy. And the basic premise of it is a very beautiful one; what would you say to your parents that you weren't able to ever say to them before? He meets his parents as, as they are now; and they're the same age, he talks to his mum and dad...when they're the same age as he is now. And he has to let them know who he is, and so it's a very beautiful premise. A difficult one to, to - I keep saying to my friends you know: 'Just go see it, just go see it.' Because you're like: 'Oh my god, it sounds crazy', but it's a really beautiful idea. Because, you know, so, so much of us, you know, so many of us think about people. You know, I was walking down Fifth Avenue today and I was thinking: 'Most of these people are probably having conversations with, with people they haven't seen in 15 years.' You know, we spend so much of our time in memory, you know, and so - that's where the ghost is. Yeah, yeah, yeah."
"What's so extraordinary about this film is that you're always the child, aren't you? When your parents...and I love this idea that you know, we don't do any, in the movie we don't do any - like, in the theater you can play several different parts, and, and the audience immediately believes it. But in the movies, sometimes we've got to put like a nuclear glow around them to show that they're ghosts. We do none of that stuff; it's just exactly the way our memory works, which is, you know, you remember the people exactly as you remember them and not - you don't really think about logic too much. So all the conversations are very beautiful and loving, but they're also kind of thorny because they've got a lot of kind of attitudes that would have existed around the nineteen - late 1980s. And he has to sort of, in some ways, kind of come out to them and it's very - it's beautiful because it talks about the accidental cruelty of families. You know, that we can have great love, but also your family can say things to you that are pretty bruising. But it's so compassionate and it's so tender, and people when they go and see the movie, you know, you can audibly hear - I wasn't able to see it for ages because of the strike - and I went to see it in, for the first time with a big group of 500 people, in London and just, people were audibly weeping. And so to be able to, I don't know, capture the audience imagination in that way is, is pretty wonderful."
"It was incredible you know, because Jamie Bell and Claire Foy play my parents, who are younger than me...It's sort of a crazy idea but it's got this epic, it's got this epic subject matter to it, which is - it's literally about life and death. And it's so, so beautiful and so incredibly; I'm proud of it - I find it very moving even talking about it. So, but yeah, so it's, it's really just very, very specific, and we shot it in the childhood home of the director, which is extraordinary. He lived there when he was nine or ten, so we went back into his, his home, so it was sort of magical; the whole thing was really magical."
"...He'll kill me for saying this but Paul was in an ad for sausages in Ireland. Now he's so cool. No - he's still an ad for sausages; he'll always be an ad for sausages. Easy, tiger. So, and then of course, I knew him from 'Normal People', which I'm sure everybody knows him from. And so we were required to forge this sort of huge kind of chemistry and intimacy in this, in this, in this movie and, you know -
...We did a little sort of a sketch for Comic Relief in, in London, but certainly nothing like, like the intimacy we have to forge in, in this one. And so, yeah, it was just one of those wonderful, wonderful experiences. I, I love him dearly."
"...You know, I think storytelling is so much part of Irish culture. I think probably because of immigration. You know, so many Irish people moved over here, you know, and so how you keep people alive is by telling stories about them. You know and so Ir - Irish people - you know, of course I'm biased - but I do, I do feel like there's, there's, we've had a lot, we've had a bad; a lot of bad knocks, but I love it. It's fun; I'm going back there for Christmas obviously. Well, I don't wanna, you know, I don't want to fall into cliche but we'll have, we'll have a couple of drinks."

Why Quinn runs away theory time
DISCLAIMER: What I think is going to happen doesn’t mean it’s what me/most of the fandom necessarily want to happen. Unfortunately, we didn’t write the movie so we don’t really know what to expect. I do trust though we’ll be happy with it the amount of insta comments Erin and Matt liked/responded to basically saying we as fans will be happy with how Quogan goes in this movie ❤️
Tbh I don’t think why Quinn runs away from the wedding is going to be super complicated. I think she’s kinda tired of how different her and Logan’s life is than it used to be judging by her telling Zoey “it’ll be the reunion we all need”. And that’s fine IMO i’m sure Logan’s world of rich is different than what she’s used to and it’s scary.
Then Logan being Logan is full bridezilla. I think Quinn tries to get him to relax a little and remember to have fun but knowing Logan she fails. Plus I bet his family isn’t going to be easy either. Also if you look closely in this pic Quinn looks super annoyed with Logan lol
Tumblr media
And then or before the above scene whatever tf Zoey’s going to say in her rehearsal speech is going to make her more nervous about how much her life is about to change. So Quinn gets more nervous. I’m sure some point throughout she talks to Zoey about how she’s worried and Zoey brushes her off because in her head Quinn’s life is perfect and hers is the one that needs to be dealt with and overall just isn’t the maid of honor Quinn wanted her to be and overall Quinn just doesn’t feel like she has anyone to talk to. Logan’s definitely not indenting to make her feel like this at all (he loves that girl he’s been with her for FIFTEEN years and looks just as in love as he was when they were 16) but he’s just become obsessed with the actual wedding event and kinda lost track of what the wedding means (aka him and Quinn choosing to spend the rest of their life together <3)
Then they get to the altar!! Idk what exactly happens here but some little thing probably happens at the altar where like Logan forgot to write his vows bc he was too obsessed with making sure everything went perfectly he forgot to? (idk anyways something Logan does that makes her not want to get married THIS WAY). I say this way because in the reproposal scene she’s still wearing her engagement ring so it’s not like she dumps him she just doesn’t want to get married like this.
I think Quinn’s going to blow up at Logan and Zoey. Logan for whatever he did at the actual wedding and for forgetting about her in their wedding and Zoey for not being a very good maid of honor (bad rehersal dinner speech + constantly leaving the wedding for work or something (she’s not there the morning of the wedding in the trailer scene they’re all in PJs + if you look at the trailer she’s literally on her phone DURING the ceremony).
Anyways, Logan and Zoey feel guilty. Zoey probably brings up PCA she’s obsessed with that place and Logan gets the idea to buy PCA (Jamie’s insta post yesterday showed a pic where PCA was on sale) and him and Zoey are going to throw the wedding there. They get everyone together and we get the new trailer scene of Zoey going “alright everybody let’s get to work” and from a BTS pic that tumblr is being annoying and won’t let me upload everyone except Quinn is there in that scene. Then, I think Zoey makes some excuse and gets Quinn to PCA (Quinn is wearing a PCA shirt under her jacket when Logan reproposes. AND LOGAN PROPOSES (i’m so excited for this scene you guys don’t understand) and if my theory of him forgetting to write his vows or something is true then it goes in line with him giving a heartfelt speech about why he loves her and realizes he’s needs to remember to live more in the moment (symbolized by his tie in his hand)!! Quinn says yes they get married and live happily ever after!!
Once again this isn’t necessarily what I WANT to happen it’s just what I think will happen. I really really really do not like the bride runs away at the altar I mean I could’ve dealt with her running away before the wedding but her deciding while up there to run away is so awkward i’m sorry. Also most of this theory goes in hand with Erin’s insta comment about how the movie shows women struggling to move to the next phase/with change because change is scary (like that’s not just Zoey’s plot in this movie it’s Quinn’s too). Plus I do empathize with her Logan is my fave character but he probably isn’t the easiest fiancé haha (I imagine this being a very mondler like wedding situation except I don’t think the fear is necessarily about commitment like it was for chandler but for quinn it’s about how absorbed Logan got in the wedding she feels like he forgot about her and she loves this man it’s why she’s upset he’s so wedding obsessed she misses him like emotionally and for Logan he loves her obviously it’s why he’s trying so hard for their wedding to be perfect!!!
In general if you managed to read to this point idrc what happens i’m just so excited we’re getting out endgame like childhood me who would watch zoey 101 reruns is screaming
