Mori, but he cares for Dazai in a way that is most certainly toxic as he tries to help. He gives Dazai vitamin medication and vitamin shots pretty much all the time, and gives him check ups twice a week. But Dazai doesn't want to be helped, so Mori reverts to underhanded tactics like restraining him and sedating him so that way Dazai can be healthy.

Mori, at least once a month, becomes convinced Dazai has some sort of disease or some sort of physical problem, leading to more testing on Dazai's end. They both have more than enough anxiety over it, for very different reasons, but it ends up being fine.

Mori, as the good father he is, is very concerned for Dazai's physical health. He still needs Dazai out on the front lines, but that's what he is there for, to help Dazai heal and get better. If he's healthy, he's happy. Sure Dazai refuses to eat most anything, but that's why Mori's there. Sure Dazai has the worst sleep schedule, but that's why Mori's there. Sure Dazai is still trying to kill himself, but that's why Mori is there. All he has to do is lie indefinitely about giving him "a painless suicide", and he'll stay by his side forever. And Mori can make sure he stays alive.

He'll survive, but only under Mori's care.

canon compliant bsd. dazai x ability user!gn!reader

started to binge bsd this week and now i’m on s4 >:))). gotta say eng dub for this series is honestly amazing (addicted to akutagawa’s voice tbh i'm here for it). s2 gave me so much brain rot so lo and behold, this idea with dazai.

might be a series. kinda like slice of life of reader and dazai and pm!dazai to ada!dazai. or an equivalent of an 100k+ fic slow burn lmao. 

reader’s ability is named momentum, which is the title of the potential series. the following bullet points are how their ability works. hopefully it makes sense lmao:

it’s an amplification ability that works on ability users, themself included. allows them to exceed their limits for a short period of time. activates by adrenaline rush. themself: only step required if applied to themself. ability users: needs to achieve that step plus contacting anyone through touch. think of it as a sound amplifier. it won’t work if the source and reader are too far away from each other. 

there can be fatal consequences from using the ability as it is dependent on adrenaline rush, which can have negative impacts. ability users: their abilities are at risk of overload, possibly leading to death. themself: would experience adrenal crashes and may not use their ability from 1 day to 6 weeks depending on the severity of the adrenaline rush.

reader despises it due to what happened to their older sibling, trying to repress it as much as possible and want to get rid of it (if that’s a thing). they basically want to live a normal life, a promise made to their dying older sibling. after their death, reader inherited their house and left all of their belongings untouched. they’re still able to go to school despite all that, though doesn’t have many friends.

the goal of normalcy ends when they meet dazai at the school rooftop at 15, the time when he became an executive of pm. similar to atsushi’s first encounter, he tries a new way to commit suicide by jumping off there, scaring reader shitless. they consider dazai as their first friend.

he’s anything but normal. people are after him for who knows what reason, and unfortunately reader got dragged into the mess of an enemy group’s crossfire. they’re forced to use their ability to protect him and themself. long story short knowing dazai, it’s a setup orchestrated by him. the enemy group’s none other than his division to capture the one responsible for a certain incident years ago, which involved their older sibling.

this is like a good chunk of the prologue. afterwards it’s the slice of life stuff featuring the pm and the ada ofc with some special division over there. expect fallouts between dazai and reader tho because that’s bound to happen.

Not only is he cut out of many important scenes / emotional reactions of his are left out, but he is quite literally a different character with a different backstory due to the timeline of Dazais entrance exam being different - it’s quite interesting actually :>!

I think I finally figured out how to describe how I like to think of Fyodor's thoughts about Nikolai.

My Fyodor sees Nikolai as a beetle on a chessboard. He doesn't see Nikolai as a piece he can direct, or even part of the game at all. If Nikolai happens to nudge a piece in another direction or even knock one off entirely, that still doesn't really have anything to do with the game--it's not like Fyodor can change or predict Nikolai's actions (well, actually, he might be able to, but he refuses to). So, the only thing he can really do is decide what he'll do in the wake of the beetle (since he also refuses to kill Nikolai).

The reason he doesn't just manipulate or kill Nikolai is that they're friends, and the foundation for their friendship has always been mutual understanding and honouring of free will. If Fyodor were to try to direct Nikolai, he'd be breaking his trust, and therefore forming cracks in the foundation of their friendship. If Fyodor were to kill Nikolai, he'd be killing his friend, which he absolutely will never do (unless either a, Nikolai asks, or b, Fyodor succeeds in his final goal).

A reasonable question would be, then, "Wouldn't Nikolai wanting/trying to kill Fyodor also form pretty massive cracks in their friendship?" And reasonably, it would, but Fyodor doesn't actually put any blame on Nikolai for that, surprisingly. In his mind, if Nikolai manages to kill him, that's Fyodor's own problem. Though, of course, that's all theoretical. I don't think, if Nikolai were actually to try to kill Fyodor, he would just be unaffected. I think he'd be pretty upset. But right now, he doesn't put much weight in it.

I'm still not quite sure how to put this... Fyodor isn't removing Nikolai's agency from the decision, but more like... he views Nikolai's struggle for freedom as something only Nikolai himself can resolve, and only Nikolai can decide what form his 'freedom' will take. Fyodor can listen and give his thoughts, but ultimately, he can only encourage and help Nikolai to fulfill his goal. And since he wants to help, he does what he can for Nikolai (like getting him that role in the DOA).

It's a bit unfortunate, then, when Nikolai decides that he needs to kill Fyodor, because that means Fyodor can't really help him at all (well, other than talk to him about it, but since he's not willing to try to manipulate Nikolai's thoughts, all he can really do is listen and give his reflections). But it's still kinda weird to me. Fyodor can acknowledge that Nikolai's fully capable of killing him, and if he really decided to, there's actually not much Fyodor could do about it while being unwilling to manipulate or kill him. He also thinks Nikolai's probably capable of killing him, capable of overcoming the 'innate moral brainwashing' not to.

But for some reason, Fyodor just... isn't concerned. He isn't upset with Nikolai. He isn't worried Nikolai's going to kill him. I guess it kinda reminds me of Dostoyevsky, and how he never seems very upset with his father, despite, well, how his father was (taken from his letters to his brother). I've found how Dostoyevsky talks about his father similar to how Marmeladov talks about Katerina Ivanovna (obviously, without any sort of romantic element). Though, there is a pretty massive difference there. While Dostoyevsky and Marmeladov refer to these people as having a 'childlike naivety' that keeps them from changing or growing, Fyodor sees Nikolai as a mature, perceptive and capable person who has the potential to change and/or resolve his philosophical problems.

Anyway, there's something about Fyodor that makes him unwilling to negatively judge those close to him, and so he ends up not having much negative feelings towards the thought of Nikolai killing him (only some small sadness). That's my theory, anyway. All I really know is that, for some reason, Fyodor isn't upset or concerned.

And when it comes down to it, if Nikolai kills him, Fyodor finds that to be more of a failing on his part than a fault with Nikolai. He respects that Nikolai will do whatever he thinks he has to to 'oppose God', but at the same time, Fyodor himself isn't willing to die for Nikolai. But if he does die to Nikolai, that would be due to his own lack of planning, and it's not Nikolai's fault that he failed. (That said, this is all theoretical in Fyodor's head. As I said, when it comes down to the act itself, were it to play out, I'm pretty sure Fyodor would be extremely upset that he failed his goal, and a bit scared to die in general. Not sure whether he'd be willing to kill Nikolai then, though.)

idk maybe fyodor can resurrect until he reaches his goal? or maybe it's a cycle? killing a certain amount of people is his crime and dying after it only to resurrect is his punishment?

i mean his ability is 'crime and punishment' which is something two sided and one thing leads to other thing so the act of 'killing' leads to his own 'death' and his resurrection, only to repeat again and again

wait- maybe he thinks he has to remove all abilities to break the cycle but in reality he has to acknowledge his crimes to do it? maybe the narrator (asagiri himself) is tricking us to think fyodor is some sort of 'jesus' who kills and dies for our sins but in fact he is committing those crimes mainly for his own goals. he thinks, similar to razumihin (c&p); someone has to do all these and that someone is above everyone, someone who sheds blood to cleanse us, someone who sacrifices their humanity for our sins, just like a savior, a god. he believes that and persuades us to believe it too.
