flirt - trafalgar water d. law

a/n: guys i had a final presentation today and i basically turned into a rap god, because we only had 2-3 minutes to present and i had a lot to say 😭😭😭 my poster board looked like garbage compared to everyone else's though and im praying that my presenting was good enough to pick up where my poster slacked 💀 but its in the hands of my professor and god now 😭😭
nothing but fluff here 💗
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-similar to ace, law cannot keep his eyes off of you. however, where they differ is the fact that the captain of the heart pirates would rather die than be caught in the act of staring at you. if you happen to sense his eyes on you and turn to look at him, his cheeks immediately get covered in the faintest blush as he turns his head in a completely different direction as fast as he possibly can.
-law is really subtle with the ways he verbally flirts with you. it comes in the form of soft praise during team meetings, you can see his facial expressions soften ever so slightly as he looks at you and murmurs "you did a good job.."
-his main expression of love and attraction is quality time.. so expect to help clean the captain's office, he'll frequently ask you to dust, rearrange his books, organize files and papers, your home away from home on the polar tang is law's office due to how often he'll assign you chores there. when you're finished, you can hear his gruff voice from across the room offer "if you want to say and read for awhile, you can."
-you'll find cold glasses of water left on your vanity in the mornings, little candies left on your pillow when you head into your room ready for bed, and while he'll never fess up to it, you know in your heart that it's law leaving them for you... while he struggles with verbal communication to describe his feelings for you, he more than makes up for it with his physical gestures of consideration.

A Scheme for a Set Up (part 2) - An Eventual George Weasley Love Story
Part 2! I guess the love story is no longer eventual?
Word Count: 3.2k
Rating: Fluff, underage drinking, kissing.
At lunch time, Katie came bounding up to their dormitory, seeking an explanation from her friend for her “illness”. She found Francesca flipping through a magazine on top of her bed, the picture of health.
“Okay Greening, ‘fess up,” she said, making Francesca jump. “What’s going on?”
Francesca only shot her a confused look before putting her magazine away and checking the time.
“What do you mean?”
“You’re obviously not sick,” Katie pressed. “Where were you this morning?”
“Didn’t they tell you about the party tonight? For the others finishing their exams?” Francesca asked. She stood up and went to her trunk to find something casual but nice that she would be comfortable in for the rest of the day.
“Well yes-“
“Do you reckon it’ll be cold in the boathouse after dark? I know it’s been warm but it’s down by the water,” Francesca interrupted Katie, holding up a cardigan, debating whether or not to bring it.
“Fran! Where were you?”
“With George, getting stuff from the pub-“
“Just George?” It was Katie’s turn to interrupt now, a grin forming on her face, knowing the others, especially Fred had been trying to orchestrate a way to get the two of them alone together. “And?” She asked, barely able to contain her glee from her assumptions.
“And?” Francesca asked back, starting to become impatient with Katie.
“Nothing happened?”
“Like what?” Francesca asked, exasperated now. Katie rolled her eyes, realising George hadn’t seized his opportunity. Francesca held up her cardigan again. “Shall I bring this or not? I’m going to help them set up.”
“Well it’s a bit- hold on,” Katie said, another question interrupting her own thoughts. “Why’d they ask you to help and not me?”
“Fred called me Billy-no-mates last night, they’re probably just trying to change my scenery.”
“Doesn’t mean they couldn’t ask me too,” Katie sulked.
“You’re right, but someone almost definitely would’ve suspected something if both of us bunked off the same time, knowing the twins aren’t busy right now.”
“Fair enough,” Katie conceded. “Put aside a few extra drinks for me as an apology?”
“Sure thing. Now,” Francesca said, determined to leave the tower in the next minute. “Cardigan, or it’s not that cold?”
In truth it was a bit overcast that day, and even in the summer, Scotland was not a warm place, so without the sun, temperatures could fall fast. A devious smirk pulled at the edge of her mouth as an idea formed.
“No it’ll be fine I’m sure, leave it.”
“Thank you,” Francesca said, tossing her cardigan back into her trunk. “Now, I have to go, I’ll see you later.”
When Francesca descended the staircase into the common room, she saw Alicia and Fred talking in an almost conspiratorial fashion and, scanning the room, saw George wasn’t down yet.
“Hello you,” Alicia greeted, “little skiver.”
“It’s the last day anyway,” Francesca dismissed. “How was your exam?”
Alicia only answered her with a shrug and soft smile.
“We’re just waiting for George, he was sleeping all morning, lazy git,” Fred told her.
“Only because he was up early doing the job you said you were going to do,” Francesca scolded. “George and I had to go alone Alicia, can you imagine?”
“Really?” Alicia laughed back, sarcastically. “Was it really so awful being alone with George?”
“Of course not,” George called, coming down the stairs. “I’m a delight.”
“Let’s go?” Fred asked, and he and Alicia turned towards the portrait hole. George turned to Francesca to greet her and his smile faltered slightly when he saw her outfit.
“You won’t be cold?” George asked, “we’ll be there a while.”
“Katie said it was warm today,” Francesca answered with a dismissive wave, walking towards the exit after the others.
The foursome made quick work of the passageways, taking care that no one spotted their younger friend avoiding classes, and before long they had their wands pulled, lighting the way of the dark passage, looking for where George had dropped the boxes.
“Seeing as Fran and I had to lug these down here, I think it’s only fair you two carry them the rest of the way,” George said smugly, dropping one box into Fred’s arms.
“There are three?” Alicia said, gesturing George to pick up the third.
“Nah, they’re for our experiments this summer,” Fred winked at Alicia. “Big plans in store Georgie and me.” She just rolled her eyes in response and started walking the corridor again, the other girl grinning and following after her older friend, wand raised to light the path for them both.
George held his wand aloft to light the way for him and Fred, the latter letting his footsteps slow so that there was a bit of distance between them and the girls.
“George, please trust your brother,” Fred whispered, earning an eye roll from his twin. “You have to at least say something tonight, the summer holiday is right around the corner!”
“Fred,” George cautioned.
“No, all of us are sick of it, she’s moping, you’re pining, enough,” Fred whispered harshly. George shot his brother an incredulous look, feeling like saying the exact same thing about Fred and Angelina, but not wanting to pressure his brother like he was doing to George now. “If you don’t do something tonight, I will.”
“Pack it in Fred,” George said loudly, to get the attention of the girls to get out of the conversation.
“What?” Alicia asked, predictably, both girls stopping and turning to look at the boys. “What are you doing all the way back there, slow coaches.”
“Fred keeps making out the box is too heavy for him as if I didn’t carry two on an empty stomach,” George lied, closing the distance and leaving his brother in the gloom.
“Wimp,” Alicia laughed and continued walking. Francesca shot the boy a questioning look, doubting a joke like that would’ve prompted such a serious reaction from George, but seeing his jaw set, similar to this morning, she decided to drop it.
Before long they were in the boathouse, and boxes open to make the drinks accessible. Katie arrived almost as soon as dinner started, with a package of food from the Great Hall. Not long after four, Lee and Angelina arrived from their final exam, and soon the full group sat around, sharing drinks and chatting.
“No music?” Francesca asked, interrupting a heated debate between Lee and Angelina on whether a country should have qualified for the Quidditch World Cup or not. “You didn’t bring the guitar, George?”
George felt his ears burn, and shook his head quickly before pressing a bottle to his lips again.
“You numpty,” Lee chided. “What are you going to do now to impress Fran?”
This caused George to choke on his butterbeer, and swiftly shoot it out of his nose, everyone bursting out in laughter. Francesca herself fixed her gaze to the bottle in her hand, smiling softly to try not to make the joke bigger, or seem offended so he wouldn’t be more embarrassed. Actually, she felt flattered that George would even look in her direction, but doubted that it was true.
“I’m thinking of swimming,” Francesca said, taking advantage of the first lull in laughter to reorientate the conversation. “Any takers?”
“You’ll freeze!” Angelina cautioned.
“It’s summer, Ange,” said Fred, “how cold can it be?”
Francesca wasn’t really listening to the conversation, only asking who would join her out of politeness. Quickly she had pulled off her socks and shoes, shimmied out of her jeans, leaving her t-shirt for modesty. Lee was the only one joining her it seemed, as no one else was moving to shed their clothes. Francesca ran straight for the open entry of the boathouse, to make sure her jump would clear the little boat moored there. The water was cold when she hit it, but with the warmth of the few drinks in her, it felt more refreshing than anything. She had felt more than seen Lee entering the water, the back of her head being hit with his splash as she resurfaced. She had assumed it was Lee anyway, but when she turned and swam back in towards the boathouse a little, she could see Lee and Fred holding each other up for laughter, Katie stood up, mouth agape, Alicia giggling behind her drink, and Angelina rolling her eyes with a smile. It was George.
Her idea proved true when a mop of drenched red hair and a furious expression rose from the water- fully clothed.
“GITS!” He roared, wiping the water from his eye, and turning back to their friends with such veracity if Francesca had been any closer she would’ve been splashed again. She herself started to giggle too once she realised she could see his hoodie and T-shirt sticking to his neck and shoulders above the water. He turned back to her with a betrayed look on his face. “Et tu, ‘Cesca?”
Her face softened and she pouted at him in joking sympathy before swimming closer to him to hit him with a gentle splash.
“Well you’re in now Georgie, you couldn’t get more wet!” She joked. A devious grin spread on his face then and he cupped his hands, bringing his hands together to hit her with an almighty splash from both sides. Their friends laughed at the antics, but now the big joke of George in the water was old, returned to their chatter and drinks.
“It’s not that cold,” she said with a laugh when did an exaggerated shiver.
“Speak for yourself,” he replied. “You were expecting it, I’m going to be freezing cold in these clothes now when I get out.”
“Drama queen,” Francesca teased. “Such a shame there’s no such thing as magic to help you out, huh?” She added sarcastically. He flashed her a sardonic grin and a sarcastic laugh, before raising the bottle of butterbeer he was still grasping out of the water and turned it upside down, lake water pouring out of it.
“Well I think I’ll need another one of these, you want one?” He asked. Francesca nodded and the two headed to the stairs to collect their drinks.
George didn’t stay in the water. After hauling himself out, he made a point to give Fred a big hug while he was still dripping wet. Fred complained loudly but didn’t retaliate, passing his brother two drinks when asked. George took off his socks and shoes and his hoodie, throwing them aside to dry later, and sat down on the lowest few dry stairs, in front of Francesca in the water, passing her a drink.
“You probably shouldn’t stay in there too long,” George told her before taking a sip of his fresh drink.
“Yes mum,” she replied, elbowing is leg, which was hanging over the side of the staircase.
“It’s cold!” He insisted, nudging her back with his foot.
“You’re a wimp.”
“You’re half naked, you’ll freeze soon enough.”
“I’ll pull you back in Weasley if you keep fretting,” she warned. “Oi Fred why is your brother scared of the cold?”
“Nah he’s just worried he’s not strong enough to play Baywatch if you drown,” Fred quipped, making the others laugh. Francesca felt her stomach flip again at the idea of George rescuing her, but rolled her eyes to hide it, and took another sip on her new drink.
“I’ll get out after this drink, it’s starting to hit me a bit now anyway,” she said, seeing George was still looking at her with caution in his eyes. When he only raised his brows at her, she laughed and passed him her drink, giving in and swimming over to the bottom of the other small staircase, near to where she had left her dry clothes. As soon as she lifted just her shoulders out of the water she felt the chill in the air and the goosebumps rise on her skin. “Someone better have something warm and dry for me, because Katie is such a liar!” She yelled as she climbed out.
“Why are you blaming me for your lack of preparation?” Katie answered back, taking advantage of Francesca’s concentration on the climb to throw George’s hoodie, that she had discreetly charmed dry, at his head (which he nearly dropped back in the water).
George held his hoodie and looked dumbfounded at his friends, who had gathered as if they were an audience behind his back. They were frantically shooing him over to the other side of the deck to where Francesca was nearly up. The gormless expression still on his face, he turned to the younger girl and he watched as she stood upright, squeezing the water out of her hair. When he saw her t-shirt sticking to her form, shape evident and legs bare, with water droplets glistening on them, something in his gut made him act without thinking. Scrambling up, he quickly approached her and wrapped his hoodie around her, making sure to place his body between her and the gaze of his brother and friend that he hated the idea of being on her right now.
“Thanks,” she said quietly, “can you pass me my drink?”
“Oh, sure,” George mumbled, walking back over to where he’d left their drinks, purposefully avoiding making eye contact with any of his friends.
He sat down next to her on a boat the group had upturned to serve as a makeshift bench. She had already pulled her wet t-shirt off and had slipped her arms into George’s hoodie, so she could attempt to dry her top with magic.
When she had finished, he passed her the drink again, and took it, holding her wand and now dry top in her other hand, the rest of her clothes at her feet.
“Don’t say I told you so, but,” Francesca started.
“You’re cold?” George interrupted. She turned to him with a sheepish grin, expecting him to be smiling smugly. Although there was a soft smile on his face, it was more concern she could see in his eyes, and when he wrapped his arm around her, she put her head on her friend’s shoulder to steal some of his warmth, grateful he cared about her.
They were in their own, oblivious bubble. Something their friends had grown used to the frustration of. The two had not noticed the other five teenagers watching them, that is, until Fred interrupted their moment.
“Would you two just bloody kiss and get together already?!”
The pair jumped apart, as if the other burned them, at Fred’s shouted words. After staring at Fred, horrified, George turned to Francesca, and when he couldn’t find a single way to turn Fred’s words into a meaningless joke, stood up and fled the boathouse towards the long, exposed staircase back up to the castle.
Everyone was shouting at Fred at this point, feeling he had been too forward and impatient and ruined the whole thing. Francesca however took one look at him to know he wasn’t joking. She scrambled into her jeans, and shoved her feet into her shoes and she called after George and followed him out.
No one knew George better than Fred. And Fred would never have done anything intending to hurt his brother, everyone knew that. But Francesca realised she was actually the only person who could fix anything at this point.
“George, wait!” She called, having almost caught up to him, standing at the bottom of one of the staircases, halfway up the walkway. He was nearing the top, almost running, his long legs letting him take the stairs two at a time with ease. By this point they were already out of sight of the boathouse, and Francesca was winded by running trying to catch up to him.
“Just go back to the party Fran,” he yelled back, not turning to face her. “I’m fine, just go have fun.”
“Please,” she insisted, climbing a few steps at a slower pace, trying to catch her breath. “Just wait a second.”
He turned quickly to her then. She almost gasped seeing the emotion in his face. He wasn’t crying, but his expression was so tense it was like the wall of anger was too strong to let out the tears that could well have been behind it.
“Why, Fran? Forget it, Fred was just teasing me, you don’t need to think anything of it. He only said it to get a rise out of me,” he interrupted himself with a humourless laugh. “Guess it worked.”
“George, just hold on-“
“No, really Francesca, just go back, don’t worry about me, it’s none of your concern. I’d never even try anything, so I don’t know why he would bring it up, because I’ve told him-“
“George-“
“I’ve told him, it’s too soon right now, and I don’t even know if it’s even the right thing to ever do, you probably will only ever see me as a friend. And maybe it’s better that way, but even if it’s not, it’s only been a few weeks since you and Cormac split-“
“George-“
“So even if you might feel some type of way, you need a friend right now. You’re not ready for me going around confessing all my feelings, I’m not a selfish git-“
Francesca realised George was too far gone in his spiral. He wasn’t even looking at her anymore, running his hands over his face, rolling his eyes up, or his gaze following his hand as it gestured vaguely at the horizon, now being kissed by the sunset. Even though something had clicked for her when Fred had interrupted them in the boathouse, George’s rambling was the confirmation she needed to know exactly what she had to do next.
She quickly stepped up onto the same stair as him, and pushed up onto her tiptoes to stop him ranting with a kiss.
It was very short, and clumsy, she kissed more of his upper lip than his actual mouth, but it did the job. He stopped talking.
“Who said I’m not ready?” She asked him. Her face was serious, despite her joke, because it wasn’t really a joke at all. She could have been furious with him if she wasn’t so happy that he like her in that way. She just wished he’d come to her to talk about this, rather than deciding he already knew how she felt.
George was shocked. He looked at her, fire in her eyes and chest heaving. They could have made the excuse it was still from her running to catch him, but they both knew why. The look they shared only lasted a moment before George finally felt like he had entered his body once again, and leaned down to kiss her properly.
This kiss was not so fast, or clumsy. George really wanted to take the time to make it right. He brought his hand up to cup her face along her jaw, the other taking her hand in his. His touch so gentle as though she would break. His lips, however, were not so tentative. At first he just gently pressed his lips to hers, but as soon as he felt her free hand wind around his waist, pulling him closer, he deepened the kiss. It was slow, and intense, and when they pulled back, they were both out of breath. But both smiling widely.
“Fancy going back down to the boathouse?” He asked, not moving himself too far away from her.
“Not at all.”
“Me either.”

It took two nights for Grayson to officially give in and admit that Indiana’s bed was more comfortable than his. Although he wasn’t exactly utilizing the space the way he wanted to at that moment, considering he was criss cross on top of the comforter in front of his very stressed out girlfriend, holding out a water bottle like it was a toy for a toddler.
“Hey. You need to drink some of this.”
“Mhmm, yeah,” she mumbled as a response, blowing him off as she had been all evening, one finger tracing over her notes. He resisted the urge to pull them out of her hands, knowing he might rip them on accident.
“Dee. Stop. Drink.”
“Yeah, just gimme a sec.”
“No, cause you said that five minutes ago. Drink.”
“I’m fine.”
“Holy shit.” He unscrewed the cap of the water bottle and held it over her notes, blocking her view. “Drink it or I’m pouring it.”
That got her attention enough, and when she looked up her gaze was icier than he’d ever seen it.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me.” He tilted it just barely.
“You’re annoying,” she grumbled, grabbing the bottle and taking a quick swig before trying to hand it off again.
“And you’re stubborn. Three more drinks, and then I’ll leave you alone.”
“You know, I’m two months away from a college degree, not a two year old.”
“Then you should know how important water is,” he countered, not budging an inch. She gave in to appease him, taking three long swallows before she passed it back to him, licking her lips slowly as she moved back down to her papers.
As if he wasn’t already worked up enough.
He was trying to behave, he really was. But there was just something about the way she was so focused. He’d always found ambition sexy, but it had been a long time since he’d seen someone academically driven, and he’d forgotten how attractive he found someone with intelligence. She was right there in front of him, hair pulled up in a loose bun on top of her head with a pencil stabbed through it somewhere - she didn’t need it, she had 17 different colored pens lined up in order on top of her planner page, which was full of blocked out times and perfect penmanship. She’d been chewing on her bottom lip, a nervous habit he’d noticed, but now it was bright pink and slightly swollen, and all he wanted to do was lean over and lay her down against the bed, kiss her rough, feel her skin under his hands, get her out of that damn cudi hoodie that he’d let her borrow a few nights ago.
“Flex.”
He only realized she was looking at him when he pulled himself out of his thoughts.
“Huh?”
“Take your shirt off and flex your arm.”
“Uh… why?”
“For science.”
His ego could have burst, and he couldn’t help the smug grin that spread across his face after he slipped his sweatshirt off over his head. He reached over and tucked a finger under her chin, tilting it up until she was looking at him with those bright blues that he hadn’t seen nearly enough that day.
“You know, if you wanted me to get naked, all you had to do was ask.”
For a moment he tried to remember what movie or book or show he’d ripped off just then, but he got distracted when Indy smacked him across his arm.
“I need to look at your muscle structure, not drool over you.”
He deflated immediately, in every form of the word.
“Oh.” It sounded small, even to himself, and it was apparently all it took for him to finally have her full attention. She frowned, guilt immediately spreading across her entire face.
“Hey, I didn’t mean it like that.”
It wasn’t often that Indiana did anything less than perfect (in his eyes anyways), so he jumped at the opportunity to milk it a bit.
“No it’s fine,” he muttered, toying with his fingers.
It worked.
It wasn’t two seconds later and she was intertwining her own fingers with his, tiny little pen marks of different colors on her skin as she pulled herself over towards him. Before he knew it his hands were on her waist and she was crawling into his lap, settling herself directly over him. She was a hair taller than him like that, and he tilted his head up to look at her, keeping his pout on his lips until she kissed it away.
“Sorry,” she murmured, lips moving against his as he traced his fingers over her sides, up under her hoodie to her warm skin. He felt her relax with each pass of his hands, the tension leaving her shoulders as she got lost in him.
“S’okay. Everybody gets a little grumpy when they’re stressed,” he hummed, thumbs running over the curve of her hips.
She pulled back from him immediately, offense all over her face.
“I am not grumpy.”
He waited for a moment, bold enough to raise his eyebrows at her but not to say anything.
And then her bottom lip was quivering, and he saw the tears welling up in the corners of her shiny eyes, and his stomach dropped faster than it ever had.
“Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Baby what’s wrong?” He moved a hand up to her cheek before she crumpled forward onto his shoulder, her tears warm against his skin.
“I’m grumpy,” she moaned, followed by a sniffle.
“You’re crying… because I said you were grumpy?”
“No, because I am.”
He re-ran her words through his head a few times, only getting more confused.
“I’m not following.” He fessed up, bringing his hand up to run over her hair that was still tucked up in the messy bun that was tickling his cheek.
“I’m sorry. I’m just stressed out, and I get crazy with exams, I can’t help it, I’m sorry. I just… I can’t fuck this one up, and I’m gonna fail it. But that’s not your fault, and I shouldn’t be grumpy just because I’m stressed.”
The way that the worry in her voice pulled at his gut was a new sensation, something he’d never felt with anyone but Ethan, and even then it was different. He wanted nothing more than to be able to cheer her up, to make her feel better any way that he could.
“Hey. Look at me.”
She brought her head up slowly, eyes pink and irritated as she rubbed at them with the bottom of her sleeve.
“Have you ever actually failed an exam before?”
She shook her head and sniffled. If it wasn’t so sad, he would have thought it was adorable.
“Then there’s no reason to think you’re going to fail this one.”
“But-”
“What specific part are you on right now?” He kept up the bid to distract her, happy to see that no new tears were appearing.
“All the brachial muscles.”
“Brachial?”
“Arms. Arm muscles.”
He perked up, raising up an arm and flexing.
“I have those. Lots of those.”
He let the eye roll slide because of the laugh that followed it - he couldn’t think of something he’d produced that he was prouder of in the last month.
“My professor did say if we needed to look up muscle definition for reference to google pictures of Ryan Gosling, or Channing Tatum.”
Grayson wrapped his arms around her, but not before he snagged her phone and moved it out of her reach, getting another laugh from her.
“I think I would suffice.”
“You should be top of the list,” she hummed, kissing him again. He let her settle all her weight against him, which put her snug over his crotch in a way that she hadn’t been before, and he tried to think of absolutely anything else to keep himself from popping the most obvious boner he’d ever had. He felt like a high schooler again, with wild hormones that were ready to betray him at any moment.
And Indy had no mercy for him either, chasing away her worries through rough passes of her tongue against his, lips warm and urgent as she kissed him. It took all of his self control to keep himself from rolling her over, flipping her onto her back and really getting to work.
Luckily, her hands slid down his arms, over the ridges of his muscles and she hummed.
“Which one is that?” He took the chance for the distraction, looking over at the way her nails traced over his skin.
“Well this is the short head of the biceps brachii. This is the long head, and this is the pronator teres,” her fingers ran over the inside of his elbow, crossing over.
“What’s that do?”
“Pronates your arm.” He waited. “Like this.” She turned his arm so his palm was facing down.
“And you have a supinator too, which turns it the other way. It’s right… here.” She felt around on his forearm until she found a smaller muscle up by his elbow, squeezing it. Sure, he knew the basic muscles in his arms - anything he could target at the gym, plus anything important to build up for a planche. But it was incredible to him, the way she could trace a finger over his skin and mutter something to herself, another muscle, another nerve that went into it without having to look at any notes. She was content like that for a while, but eventually she perked up.
“Can I write on you? They’re skin safe pens.”
“You think I’m worried about skin safe pens?” He asked, looking down pointedly at the tattoos on his foot and ankle, the only ones she could see outside of his sweatpants.
“Oh shut up. My mom used to get so mad when I wrote shit on my hands, said I was gonna give myself ‘ink poisoning’, it’s habit.”
“My dad took me to get my first tattoo so… I think we’re good.”
The tug on his heart was a little less painful than it usually was.
“Play some Cudi. It helps me think.”
“Your wish, my command,” he teased, pulling out his phone.
She leaned him back against the pillows with a gentle push to his shoulder, moving her notes out of view and grabbing a black pen. He pulled up his Cudi playlist, letting his left arm rest against the comforter. Indy took it in her hands, moving it around with her pen held between her teeth, tracing fingertips over his skin as her mind worked ten times faster than Grayson’s probably ever had, he was sure.
Music filled the room, bringing in a more relaxing vibe as he tried to be a good model, only twitching when something tickled him - she didn’t seem to notice, so intent on scribbling the names of muscles he’d never heard of on his skin, his arm resting over her lap as she sat criss cross. He couldn’t resist tracing his fingertips over her skin where he could get to it, a gentle reminder that he was there for her, even if he was being quiet.
Ever since he could remember, Grayson had to be on the move. Had to be practicing, moving, working, doing something to keep his brain busy. It’s why he was in sports as a kid, why he was always starting new projects, always had 85 things going on in the background. But there, laid out on the comforter watching her wiggle around to the beat as she sang along, he couldn’t think of anything he would rather be doing. Even when she moved on to his ‘trunk’ muscles, made him hold his arm up and wrote serratus anterior across his ribs, he didn’t care. She never looked back at her notes, and he could tell she knew the information inside and out, but he humored her anyways, focusing in on the feeling of her fingers on his skin. Before he knew it, it was 11:30, and half of him was covered in Indy’s handwriting as he laid on his stomach and she wrote on his back.
“Done. I think that’s all of them.”
“Well, how do I look?” He peeked over his shoulder at her.
“Like a page of my notes,” she teased. “Come see.”
She tugged on his hand, leading him over to the mirror that hung behind her door. He stood tall next to her, a soft smile on his face as he looked over his skin.
“You really have to know all these?”
“And their origins and insertions,” she mumbled, leaning her cheek against his shoulder. “Where they start and where they end,” she explained. “I need to go to sleep.”
“Hang on.” He pulled his phone out of his pocket. “C’mere.”
She did as he asked, letting him pull her up against his side a bit more, angling so they looked good in the mirror before he snapped a quick picture.
“I look like death,” she mumbled, pouting a bit.
He just shook his head and kissed her forehead. “Let’s get you in bed.”
------------------------------------------
Indy woke up to her alarm in a cold bed - which a month ago wouldn’t have been a thought in her mind. But she knew that her personal space heater had definitely fallen asleep next to her last night, considering it was him running his fingers through her hair that lulled her down. So she stood up quickly, rubbing at her eyes and following the sound of movement towards her kitchen. But on her way she saw her backpack and her stomach turned - a reminder of the exam she had in just a few hours.
The only - and probably best - distraction that she could have had was what she found in the kitchen. Shirtless Grayson, moseying around in his own little world, bed head sticking up in six different directions with slightly smudged pen ink still on half of his torso. It took him a moment to notice her there, still in his sweatshirt with her hands covered by the end of the sleeves.
“Morning gorgeous,” he smiled, small knife in one hand and an avocado in the other. “Figured I could make you breakfast before you had to leave.”
She swallowed hard. The thought of eating anything with her stomach so tight made her mouth taste like metal.
“You can get ready if you want, it’ll be a minute before it’s done.”
Indy nodded and gave him the best smile she could muster before she went back into her room. She made it as quick as she could, pulling on a pair of leggings and a bra - it was tempting for her to put Grayson’s hoodie back on, but she went the hygienic route and found a cozy sweater, burnt orange fabric soft against her skin. She gathered up all her school things, triple checking that she had a pencil and two extras, her notes and her laptop so that she could study right before.
When she made it back out to the kitchen, there was a plate waiting for her, organized quite particularly with a piece of avocado toast and strawberries, with a mug of coffee steaming beside it.
She swallowed hard again.
“Look good?” He beamed, obviously proud of himself as he started working on his own.
“Yeah, it looks great.”
Indy forced herself to take a bite after she sat down, chewing it so many times that it went soggy in her mouth. She washed it down with coffee, which seemed to go much easier. So she stuck to that, taking sip after sip until the last bit was gone, bringing her mug back down to the table, hoping she’d played it off.
But the look on Grayson’s face when she finally put the mug down told her she was sorely mistaken.
“You don’t like it.” It wasn’t a question.
“No, no it’s not-”
“It’s okay, you don’t have to eat it.”
“Grayson-”
“It’s not-”
“No, Grayson, it’s not the toast. I love avocado toast.”
“You don’t love my avocado toast,” he pouted.
“It’s not that. I promise,” she sighed, her stomach only tightening even more.
“What is it then?”
“I’m anxious. And I can’t eat when I’m anxious cause it makes me nauseous. And then eating just makes me more nauseous.”
His face fell from a pout to concern in an instant.
“Baby why didn’t you say something?”
“Because! You got up and you made breakfast, cause you’re cute and you’re thoughtful and now it’s gonna go to waste because my brain is stupid.”
And then he was laughing - a light sound that filled the kitchen and broke through the awkwardness that had found its home in the air.
“You’re adorable.”
She frowned, and he moved around the counter so he could stand tall in front of her, stealing a strawberry off her plate and popping it in his mouth.
“So lunch, not breakfast, on exam days. Got it.”
“Gray, you don’t-”
“Shush. You said you wanted to study before for a little while, so you probably need to get going, right?”
He was right and she knew it, but it still made her huff. “I’ll make it up to you.”
“There’s nothing to make up. Now go ace your exam so we can have the rest of the afternoon, hmm? You sure you don’t want me to walk you?”
“I got it, it’s okay. Just hold down the fort here, and I’ll be back as soon as I’m done.”
She got out of her chair, pulled her backpack over her shoulder and grabbed her water bottle, turning back towards Grayson.
“Good luck, not that you need it. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
“What’re you gonna do while I’m gone?” She mused.
“Snoop,” he teased, squeezing her hip in his hand. “Actually I might hit a quick workout.”
“In here?” She looked around. “With what?”
“All you need for calisthenics is yourself and your muscles. You know my, uh-” he looked at his arm, squinting at the slightly smudged writing from the night before. “- flexor digitorum profundus, and uh… the rest of them.”
He knew he butchered the pronunciation, but he’d do it again to get the same laugh out of her.
“Last minute review, go,” he grinned, spinning around slowly so she could see all the work from the night before. She was still laughing when he stopped and grabbed her face with both hands, kissing her with a smile before making himself let go.
“Bye,” he mumbled. “You’re gonna fuckin’ kill it.”
“Bye.” Love you. She held herself back from saying it, leaning up to give him one final kiss on the cheek before she turned and headed towards the door.
----------------------------------------------------------
When Grayson took exams in ‘high school’, it usually consisted of him and Ethan sitting next to each other on the couch with their notes spread out in front of them, picking each other’s far too similar brains for the answers.
Indiana on the other hand, was a solo everything. Solo test taker, obviously, but also solo studier, solo crammer, solo sit-before-the-exam-and-panic. Which worked out in her favor when she finished the exam - first in the class every time - because she didn’t feel the need to wait for anyone to discuss it. And she was especially thankful for it that day, because she had no reason to stay in the science building any longer than she needed to. She was out of the room, down the stairs and out onto the street immediately, with the image of Grayson laid out on the couch waiting for her at home pacing her steps even faster than usual.
But when she unlocked the door, there was no 6ft italian on her couch. In fact, there was no 6ft italian anywhere that she could see, and it took her a minute to place the sound of the shower running from her bathroom as she sat her bag down. The relief of having the exam out of the way was almost euphoric as she flopped down onto the bed and stared up at her ceiling, breathing her first easy breath in a few days. She stretched her arms up above her head and let her body fully settle down as she waited for her boyfriend to reappear.
Grayson, on the other hand, was taking his sweet time in the shower, and trying to ensure that there was no evidence that he’d definitely borrowed her razor to shave the puff of his chest hair that was a little too long for his liking. Needless to say, it was another 15 minutes before he made it out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist to head out into Indy’s room to find his bag. His hair was still dripping as he leaned over and searched for a pair of decent boxers.
“Boo.”
The towel was centimeters from falling off when he practically jumped out of his skin, but Indy wasn’t about to complain.
“Holy fuck you scared me! When did you get back?!” He gasped, trying to catch his breath as he clutched the fabric around him. It was low enough to show off the V lines that Indy had first noticed while they were cliff jumping, and it had her mind derailing in a much different direction.
“Like twenty minutes ago. I think you take longer showers than I do,” she teased, propping up on her elbows so she could actually look at him.
Jesus christ.
“Hang on, let me put pants on.”
You don’t have to, she wanted to say, but she bit her tongue and just enjoyed the view.
Pants, luckily, were just some very tight and short boxers that left little to the imagination when he re-emerged from the bathroom that he’d ducked away to change in.
“So how’d it go, how was the exam?”
“I missed two.”
He blinked at her a few times.
“Questions?”
“Yep.”
“How do you know?”
“I just know.”
“But… how… you know what, nevermind,” he laughed, shaking his head gently before he threw his towel over his hair and started to rub it dry.
“What?” She laughed with him, and a bit at him, for the adorable way that his hair had become fluffy from the towel when he tossed it to the side.
“I’m not even gonna try to understand your brain anymore. I give up, I forfeit.” He threw his hands up in defeat, and Indy watched the way it made his abs move. She swallowed hard, her skin buzzing as she tried to keep her tone playful while her stomach floated.
“You forfeit? You?”
He seemed entirely unfazed - it struck her that he was probably very much used to girls looking at him and imagining all the things they wanted him to do to them. She tried not to dwell on it, and to remind herself for a moment that he was there in front of her, in her bedroom, in boxers. Very tight boxers, with a very, very clear outline of his dick.
“C’mere.” She took her moment of vindication and ran with it, reaching out a hand for him as he grabbed a pair of sweatpants. He raised his eyebrows at her but obliged, taking her hand and letting him pull her over to the bed so he was sitting on the edge. She swung herself over into his lap, happy to feel his hands settle on her hips to hold her there, sweatpants dropping to the floor.
“Well hi,” he hummed as her arms wrapped around his neck. “Whatcha doin’?” His tone was still playful, less affected than she wanted it to be, almost like he didn’t realize what type of mood she’d suddenly found herself in. It was true that most of the time, he was making the moves - but only because he was so touchy that she never needed to.
So she kissed him before she answered, harder than usual, slipping her tongue into his mouth before he could get to hers. She let her hands roam through his soft hair, nails against his scalp as she tilted his head back to change the angle of his lips, shifting herself up with her forearms on his wide shoulders. He grunted a bit, breaking free of the kiss to press a few to her neck, his scruff deliciously rough against the sensitive skin.
When he pulled back his pupils were blown wide, eyes trained up on her face, flickering down to her neck, then her boobs, which were far too hidden under her clothes.
“I said I was gonna make it up to you,” she finally answered. “So let me.”
“Fuck yes,” he mumbled, hands immediately bunching in the bottom of her sweater. His instinct was to strip it directly over her head, but he paused as he pulled it up, looking at her for reassurance. She nodded with a soft smile, lifting her arms up as he guided it off, revealing the skin he hadn’t seen yet. Sure, her crop top had been small, and even more revealing once it was wet, but-
“This hits different,” he murmured, hands moving to hold onto her, thumbs rubbing over her ribcage on either side.
“This hits different?” She said, eyes going incredulously wide before her head fell back in a laugh, which turned into a squeal when Grayson buried his face in her cleavage for a moment just to get a reaction. He reveled in the feeling of her hands back in his hair, even if it was to pull him back.
“Can I take this off?” He kissed the swell of each boob, hands ghosting over the back of her bra as he spoke.
“Yes. Please.”
He did as she asked, flicking the clasp open with ease and catching her lips with his again as he guided the straps off her arms and tossed the black garment somewhere behind her. As soon as he could he leaned her back a bit, holding her there with his hands spread against her back as he kissed down her neck, over her collarbone and down to her boob. The angle wasn’t quite right for him to get enough of what he wanted, so he sat back up instead, vowing to himself to give her tits the attention they deserved later. He kept the next kiss slow, wrapping his arms all the way around her torso so he could press her against him, feel every possible inch of her skin against his. It was bliss in its rawest form, and he would have been mostly content to stay just like that.
His dick had other ideas, hard to the point of almost painful underneath her warmth as she settled over him, his boxers too thin to show him any mercy. Every time she shifted above him it sent a jolt of heat straight through him, and it wasn’t long before he rolled them to the side, taking control of the situation before he literally came in his boxers.
Indy didn’t seem to mind, beaming up at him as she settled on her back, her flushed skin on display above the white comforter. It was a beautiful sight if Grayson had ever seen one, and he just looked at her for a moment, tried to etch it into his brain so he’d never forget. He’d had his fair share of girls on a bed in front of him - honestly, more than he was proud to admit. It always just happened so fast, where one minute they were talking and within the weekend they were tangled up in eachother.
But Indy was different - there was an innocence about the blush in her cheeks and the way she crossed her legs a bit, like she was hiding from him even though she still had her leggings on. It was driving him insane, and it took all his willpower to remind himself to go slow, to focus and cherish every minute of it that he could.
So he climbed over her, sinking down to kiss her again and letting some of his weight rest on her, happy to feel her smile against him.
“You okay?” He asked, kissing down her jawline slowly, over to her ear and then down her neck. Her hair smelled like vanilla where it tickled his nose.
“Mmmm,” was her only response, and he took it as his sign to move farther south, brushing his lips along her collarbone. “More than okay,” she breathed, back arching just barely to meet him.
“You wanna keep going?” Please. Please.
“Do you?” She asked quietly - he could hear the nerves in her tone, and it stopped him in his tracks. He propped himself up so he had a full view of her face.
“Only if you do.”
She bit her lip, looking up at him. The hesitation was enough for him to start to move off of her, mind already trying to remember where he’d thrown her sweater so she could cover herself back up. Her hand wrapped around his arm before he could get any further.
“No wait! Wait, I do. I do want to, I promise, it’s just… it’s uh… it’s been a while.”
He’d never seen her face so red, and then she was talking over herself to try and get the words out fast enough.
“And by a while I literally mean like… years. I’m talking uh, junior year of high school. And I can tell you that they obviously didn’t know what they were doing, so I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing, and I just wanted you to know that before we really, like, got into it, and…”
He stopped her lips with his, waiting until her body gave way to him and relaxed underneath his hands before he pulled away.
“Baby, I couldn’t care less when the last time you slept with somebody was, or if you know what you’re doing. You have nothing to be nervous about.”
“Says the experienced one,” she teased, but he could tell his words had given her at least a little bit of comfort.
“Just let me take care of you. You deserve it, you worked so damn hard all week, now you get to relax.”
“You’re in charge,” she breathed.
“I like that.” He flashed her a playful grin before he really got to work, kissing down to her chest and paying specific attention to her nipples to get her worked up again. It didn’t take long, and when her back arched up he slid his hands down to her leggings, letting his fingers hook in the waistband.
“You ready for these to come off?”
“Yeah. Yours too though.”
He pulled everything off her at once, jokingly backing up and tugging to make her laugh until the ends popped off her feet. He tossed them aside and moved to his own boxers, pushing them down and stepping out of them, using his foot to kick them away.
“Jesus,” Indy said, and then immediately slapped a hand over her mouth, eyes wide in embarrassment. Grayson couldn’t help but to bust out laughing, the kind that went through his whole body, made him clutch at his chest.
“Was that a good Jesus or a bad Jesus?”
“A good Jesus. Is bad Jesus even a thing?” She mused, laughter and excitement overriding some of her nerves as he moved above her again. His kisses started at her boobs this time and moved down slowly, almost torturously light brushes of his lips against her skin. Grayson eased her legs open with one hand, reaching up and under her thigh with the other, searching until he found her hand and laced their fingers together. It settled her in a way that only he could, and she let out the breath she’d been holding, sucking in another one when he ran his fingers over her for the first time. Her body jolted at the feeling and he pressed a kiss to her thigh.
“You’re fucking perfect,” he said, and instead of making her blush, the words just made her wetter somehow - she already felt like she was dripping. He dipped one finger into her and she forced her muscles to relax, let herself melt into the comforter as he leaned forward and started in with his tongue, small flicks at first that already had her twitching. It was obvious that he knew what he was doing, but unbeknownst to Indy he was enjoying her inexperience - it made her more reactive, made him feel special that he was the one who got to give her this. It focused him as he tried to read her body, find the right angles and spots to make her tick as he moved up to two fingers, stretching her slightly to get her ready.
“Oh god,” she whimpered, hand squeezing his so tight it was borderline painful, but he wouldn’t move it for the world as she clung to him.
“All good?”
“Yes, yes, god that feels good.”
He could practically feel his chest puff up before he dove back in with renewed purpose, eyes trained up on her as he watched, tried to find her tells so he could commit them to memory as he explored her with his tongue. He found it when her breath hitched and her back arched for a moment, and then her legs were shaking beside either side of his head, a blissful whimper falling from her lips and filling the room as she came. It was easy to work her through it, and he backed off when her legs twitched towards closing, letting her catch her breath.
“C’mere,” she mumbled, tugging on his hand until he crawled back up her body, a bit surprised when she brought a hand up to his hair and pulled his lips down to hers.
“Fuck me.” It came out as a whisper, but all that familiar Indy confidence had returned to her tone as she hooked a leg up onto his back in an attempt to get him closer to her. He groaned into her mouth, biting at her lip as his dick rubbed against her, warm and wet.
“You sure?”
She just pushed him a bit further as her answer, letting go of his hand so she could wrap both her arms around his back, fingers running over the ridges of muscles that she was familiar with now.
He reached a hand between them, lined himself up carefully until just the head of his dick was settled inside of her. Eyes on her face, he started to move, stopping when she sucked in a deep breath through her nose.
“Don’t let me hurt you, you gotta talk to me,” he said, tone suddenly serious. The last thing he wanted was to be over eager. She nodded at him, eyes still closed as she tried to relax.
“Just go slow.”
With anyone else, it probably would have taken every ounce of willpower he had to hold himself back. But his concern for her overrode his own needs, and he aired on the side of caution, moving slowly in small thrusts, gaining a bit more each time. His head was clear enough until Indy grabbed his face and brought it back to hers, leaning up for a deep kiss that had him spinning. He could have busted right there when she moaned into his mouth, nails sharp against his cheeks as her head fell back. With her neck exposed in front of him he couldn’t resist leaving his mark, sucking a quick hickey by her collarbone.
“Fuck me Gray, please, please,” she groaned, her own way of giving him the go ahead. He picked up his pace, holding himself up with one arm and grabbing her hip with the other, keeping her steady. Indy didn’t know where to put her own hands, so she settled for exploring, tracing over Grayson wherever she could reach, appreciating every inch in front of her as best she could with the feeling of him inside of her, filling her up so much she was sure she was always going to feel empty without him.
“Fuck,” he huffed out, the first sign he’d given her that she was doing something right. She tested it out, running her nails down his side, over his ribs, watching the way it made his eyes roll back just slightly, made his abs tense up. It was a race then, trying to see who could get the other to come undone first, with angles and groans and touches and whispers in each other's ears.
Grayson won.
Her second orgasm was somehow stronger than the first, and she was so caught up in the stars that she barely registered that Grayson had pulled out. He stayed close above her as he finished himself off, cum shooting onto both of their chests as he groaned, barely able to hold himself up with just one arm.
Needless to say he collapsed next to her on the bed to catch his breath as they both stared up at the ceiling. Indy moved first, finding his hand again with hers and holding on, eventually pulling it up to her lips so she could kiss each of his knuckles.
“Woah,” was the word he finally chose when enough oxygen caught back up to him.
“Good woah or bad woah?”
He rolled over onto his side at that, raising his eyebrows.
“You have to ask?”
“Well it was amazing for me, but that doesn’t mean it was amazing for you,” she explained, only making him shake his head.
“You underestimate yourself too much. It was perfect. Best first time I’ve had with anyone, ever.”
She flushed pink at his words, looking down at herself and the mess that they’d made.
“I know you just showered but… you wanna join me?”
Instead of answering, he just stood up, glad that his legs weren’t wobbly as he scooped her up from the bed, laughing at her squeal as he carried her to the bathroom.
--------------------------------------
“Earrings, you do too much.”
“It’s nothing, just something for you to have while we can’t visit. Indy helped pick it out.”
Indy offered Bekah a smile as Grayson spoke, trying to keep her mindset positive. Which was much easier said than done, considering Bekah looked like she’d lost ten pounds since the last time they’d seen her, especially with the oxygen cannula in her nose. Still, she had the biggest smile on her face as she reached inside of the massive gift bag that Grayson had put together for her earlier that day. Indy watched as she pulled out the blanket they’d found, adorned with cute little smiling pumpkins and black cats with their backs arched.
“For spooky season, you know?” It hit Indy then that it was already mid October when they were shopping earlier, and by the look on Bekah’s face she hadn’t realized it either. It felt like September had only been a few days ago.
“We love cute spooky vibes,” Bekah smiled, trying to get it the rest of the way out of the bag. Her monitors started to beep more rapidly, her oxygen levels dropping.
“Here, let me help,” Indy offered, moving to the bag and pulling the rest of the blanket out, sitting it at the end of the bed. Bekah gave her a quiet thankful smile and took a few deep breaths through her nose before moving back into the bag. It was full of small decorations that she could sit around her room, and a few halloween themed coloring books and word searches to keep her mind busy - Indy knew she liked those. The nurses had decided to air on the side of caution and have her isolate for five days prior to her surgery, which meant she would need something to keep her mind busy.
“You all didn’t have to do this,” she said, laying back against the pillows.
“We wanted to. I’m sorry we can’t come see you,” Indy sighed, adjusting her blankets and moving around some of her tubes and lines. Grayson knew she was fidgeting because she was nervous, but he didn’t say anything.
“S’okay. Don’t really want you all to see me like that anyways. Don’t really want you all to see me like this either but here we are.”
One of the downfalls of being in the medical field was knowing more than you wanted to. Indy knew the chances of Bekah’s surgery going well. She knew the percentages, knew how bad she already had to be for them to even be considering something above chemo. Her weakness, her need for oxygen, everything else. They were all major red flags on a textbook page, signs she would highlight on a case report that could be consolidated into one word - declining.
But she couldn’t quite get herself to use that word, to rationalize it when it was Beks in front of her. She seemed smaller now than she had the first time Indy had met her, and it unsettled her in a way that made her want to scream and cry at the same time. Grayson served as the anchor in the room, the solid middle ground that she could cling to and distract herself with to keep from spiraling. She wished she could physically sit by him, lean against him and feel his warmth. But they were sticking to their rules - nothing coupley in front of Bekah.
“You guys should go do something while you can’t come see me. You spend a bunch of time here, you deserve a hospital vacation,” Bekah mused, picking at a few spare pieces of lint on the blanket. “Do something together even, keep her from worrying about me for the entire week.” She looked at Grayson when she spoke that time, and Indy frowned.
“I’m gonna worry about you no matter where in the world I am, so suck it up.”
She managed enough energy to stick her tongue out, but even that seemed to take a lot out of her.
“Grayson, can you go see if Jessica can get me some water?”
“Of course. I’ll be right back.” He jumped at the opportunity, giving them both a quick smile before he went out in the hallway in search of Jessica.
Indiana was not so quick to assume, and turned to Bekah expectantly, heart breaking as she saw the start of tears in her eyes.
“Can we uh, can we cuddle for a minute? Like we used to?”
“Of course we can.”
It was rare that Bekah asked for anything, much less physical comfort of any kind. Indy had only done this a handful of times in the years that she’d known her, and it put a pit in her stomach to realize just how bad she must be feeling to even think about asking for it. She pushed the thoughts aside, climbing in the bed next to Bekah and pulling the blanket over the two of them, wrapping her arm around her so she could rest against her shoulder. She ignored the feeling of her tears when they started to soak through her shirt. They sat in silence for a moment before Bekah finally spoke again, voice at a whisper.
“Indy I’m scared.” The vulnerability in her voice was a dagger into Indy, and it took all her power to keep herself steady.
“I know. I am too. But if anybody can get through it, it’s you. You always have.”
“This time feels different.”
“Hey, don’t think like that, okay? Gotta go in with a positive mindset.” The words felt phony even as she spoke them, but it was a knee jerk reaction that at least got an eye roll out of Bekah, which helped her to stop her tears before Grayson came back in with a bottle of water and a cup of ice.
“I couldn’t find Jessica, so I just bought one and got a cup of ice from the lounge. Is that okay?”
“I don’t drink Dasani.”
Grayson deadpanned, looking down at the bottle and then back at Bekah, then over at Indy like she could do something to help.
“Kidding Earrings,” she teased, laughing a bit when his shoulders slumped down. “But, I will give you a 30 second pass on treating me like I have cancer and opening that bottle for me.”
He did as she asked, opening it up and pouring it for her with a sympathetic smile that she would have given him shit for any other day. Grayson didn’t say a word about the way they were curled up in the bed - he just sat at the end of it, putting two and two together and realizing she’d probably asked him to leave for a reason.
When 8pm rolled around, it was hugs goodbye and promises for facetime calls if she felt up for it. But mostly it was the unspoken fear that hung over the three of them like a cloud, and it only darkened as the walls lost their color on the way back out of the pediatric wing.
By the time they made it into the elevator Indy could barely speak around the lump in her throat. So instead, she decided to hide, wrapping her arms around Grayson as soon as the doors closed behind them and burying her face in his neck.
“Hey, shhh, shhh,” he murmured, holding her close to him and praying no one had hit the button for the first floor. He kissed her hair.
“Take me to Jersey. Please.” If he’d asked her why, she wouldn’t have had an answer.
Luckily, he didn’t.
“Okay.”
He took charge then, leading them home with his arm wrapped tight around her waist. When they got to the apartment he helped her pack an overnight bag in a bid to get it done faster, slinging it over his shoulder as they headed back out into the streets, to the garage where he paid an astronomical amount to park the truck any time he came into the city.
She didn’t even bother with the passenger seat, immediately sliding across the bench to curl up next to him as they started down the road. At one point he texted Lisa and Ethan, giving them the heads up that Indy was coming back with him, but she was already asleep by then, laying down with her head against his thigh, the stress of the last few days and hours catching up with her it seemed. He kept an arm over her the whole way home, just in case.
Indy woke up to the mixture of the bumps of gravel under the tires and the sound of Grayson singing Tame Impala slightly off key above her. A sense of peace washed over her when she sat up and saw the familiar glow of Lisa’s house amongst the trees, but Grayson’s worry was filling the cab as he put the truck in park.
“I’m okay.” She answered before he asked.
“No you aren’t.”
“I’m okay enough. I just… I feel better out here. I feel better with you, wherever you are.”
He hugged her to him, breathing her in as his arms coiled around her.
“Then I’ll always be here. I promise.”
It was as if time froze in that little cab, in each other's arms, until finally the October chill seeped in enough for them to give in and head to the house. If Lisa had noticed the time they spent in the driveway, she didn’t act like it. Instead, she lit up as if two of her kids had walked through the door and not just one.
“Hi guys! How was the drive? You hit traffic?”
“Hey Ma.” Grayson went in for a mom hug - one of those things you take for granted until you can’t have it anymore. But when he let her go Lisa moved on to Indy, and it felt so close to an actual mom hug that she almost teared up.
“Ryan and Ethan are in Cameron’s room setting up the mics, but if you need to eat first there’s vegan spaghetti in the fridge.”
It was obvious by Grayson’s face that he’d forgotten about the podcast all together in the last few hours. Indy smiled at him, tried to convey with her eyes that she was fine, because she was.
“Go work. I’ll still be here when you get back,” she reassured him. “We’ll have some girl time.”
“It’ll be an hour, tops.”
“Don’t rush. Have fun.”
He pressed a quick kiss to her cheek and then headed up the stairs.
Lisa waited until his footsteps stopped, considering they could hear them all the way to Cameron’s room, and then she turned to Indy with a smile.
“So, do you need a girls night or a distraction night?”
“A distraction night?”
“Something to get your mind off things. You seem like you’re in your head. Was it your exam? Did it go okay?”
She blushed at the thought of Grayson talking about her with his mom. “He told you that?”
“Oh honey he tells me all about you. When he gets to talking about something that he loves, he doesn’t shut up. Got that from his dad.”
“Sean talked a lot?”
“Oh all the time. If you got him started on anything sports he went on for hours, and the boys always ate it up. They were mini-him’s growing up. You know they started wrestling each other when they were two years old? Actual maneuvers he taught them when I wasn’t looking - I coulda killed him when I found out.”
And with that, Lisa led on a distraction night without Indy even realizing. Stories of Sean mostly, her voice full of love with just that hit of sorrow that you only get when someone is too far away from you. Things shifted when Lisa asked about Nicole, and Indy found herself remembering stories that she hadn’t told anyone in years. The time they went camping in Georgia and skunks took over the campground, or the time she’d scored the game winning shot in a high school basketball game and her mom tackled her, right in there with her teammates.
“You know, if there’s ever anything ‘mom’ related that you need, whether it’s a haircut or just a hug, I’m always here. And that goes for when Grayson isn’t around either - my door is always open.”
“Thank you Lisa. That means a lot. More than you know.”
They were hugging when the three boys came back down the stairs, laughter bouncing off the walls as they continued a debate that was definitely a part of the pod. They enveloped Lisa into the conversation, but Indy wasn’t listening. Her attention was on Grayson alone, watching the way his nose scrunched when he laughed just hard enough, and the way he leaned his head against his mom’s shoulder when she stood by him. His eyes flickered over to hers often, and eventually he continued the conversation from right above her head, his chin resting on her, throat vibrating when she spoke.
Eventually goodnights and goodbyes were given and everyone went on to their respective rooms, Grayson grabbing her bag and taking it with them. They made quick time of their nightly routine, finding themselves in pajamas with minty breath and fresh faces in no time, eager to climb into bed and find solace in each other again.
Indy moved first, nuzzling up to his neck as soon as he opened the blanket up for her to climb in. He tucked it around her before wrapping her up in his own arms and peppering kisses along her forehead.
“You wanna talk about it?”
“Not really. Not tonight.”
“Okay. What did you and my mom talk about?”
“You mostly. And your dad. She had so many stories about him.” She traced a triangle over his chest to keep herself busy, feeling his breath filling up his chest. “I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry for?”
“That you lost him. And that I can’t give you him back.”
“Nobody can bring people back Dee. You don’t have to be sorry about that.”
“But I can’t even give you a little. Your mom treats me like I’m one of her kids, so when I’m here, just for a minute, it feels like I have a little bit of my mom back. And I can’t give you that. You deserve that.”
He shifted so he could see her, cup her face with his hand.
“Indiana Cross. You don’t have to give me anything but yourself. And I don’t even deserve that. You hear me? I love you. For you. Not for anything else that you could ever give me. Okay?”
“You love me?”
“Of course I do.” He leaned down to kiss her slowly, as if to make her feel his words. “I love you. I love you. I love you.”
She let the weight of her head, and her heart, rest in his palm.
“I love you too.”

KH Comm #4
Another Keys related writing comm for @rosie-drawss, who wanted another “what if” scenario for what would happen if the glamor spell had faded following the ball and Cinderella’s Castle. Angst and hurt/comfort ensues as Sora has to fess up to all his many lies early! Enjoy!
***
Kairi is still in a haze of half-slumber when she gets up as quietly as she can so as not to wake Sora or Riku. She tip-toes to fetch a drink of water from the pitcher on the far side of the room before heading back to bed in a similar silent manner, eager to return to the pleasant dreams she’d been having of the enchanted evening they’d just had together. That happiness still hangs over her as she climbs back into her spot under the covers right beside Sora. She smiles drowsily as she takes in the sight of him sleeping peacefully, the ghost of a contented grin on his face, his white hair draped loosely, lazily over his closed eyes-
Wait… white hair?
Her sharp gasp breaks the quiet of the room, a startled cry soon joining it as she rolls backward out of bed, ultimately landing hard on the floor. Riku bolts upright first, calling for Kairi as he glances around the darkened room amidst trying to regather his bearings. But when Sora sits up only seconds later, he’s the first to find Kairi, still sitting on the floor, staring up at him with a look of nothing less than absolute shock.
“Kairi?” he presses, concerned as he leans over the side of the bed. “Are you ok? What’s wrong?”
When Kairi finds herself far too bewildered to offer him an answer, Sora turns to Riku next, hoping to get his help. Only to catch the same exact sort of stunned stare from him too. “What?” Sora frowns, glancing between the pair in apt confusion. “Why aren’t you guys saying anything? What’s going on?”
“...I think we ought to be the ones asking you that question…” Riku finally says, his tone and expression both tense.
“Huh?”
“Sora,” Kairi’s on her feet now, retrieving a hand mirror from the nearby dresser. “W-what… what is this?”
She hands the mirror over to him, and the very second Sora so much as sees his own reflection within it, it slips out of his hand and shatters on the floor. Tears swiftly form in his now-golden eyes, a shadow-streaked hand slipping over his mouth as he tries to make sense of how this might have happened. Of how the awful secret he’s been hiding for them for so long could somehow reveal itself entirely on its own accord.
Kairi carefully steps past the broken glass on the floor to sit back on the bed alongside Sora, placing a gentle hand on his arm as he chokes out a small, frightened sob. “You… know what this is… don’t you?” she asks, gauging his mournful reaction for exactly what it is.
Sora refuses to offer an answer, all but shutting down as he wraps his arms around himself, shutting his eyes so he doesn’t have to meet their piercing, questioning gazes. Kairi softens when she sees how scared he seems to be, but Riku knows he can’t do the same. Not when this is something that certainly can’t be anything good.
“Tell us,” he places a hand on Sora’s shoulder, his voice coming out quiet and calm. Or at least as calm as it can be right now. “Please, Sora, if something’s wrong then you need to let us know what-”
“I-I’m the Organization’s thirteenth vessel!” Sora suddenly shouts, distraught and distressed. He’d been half-tempted to lie to them, but he knows it won’t do him any good now; not when they can both so clearly see the truth for themselves. “W-what you guys did to save me during the exam didn’t work and now I… I’m being… Xehanort is-”
“H-he’s taking over your heart…” Riku finishes in a whisper. A grave silence falls over the room as this horrific realization sinks in, a realization that none of them want to face. Kairi clings onto Sora’s arms, joining him in his sorrowful, ceaseless tears. But those tears aren’t something Riku shares. Instead, he continues staring solely at Sora, at the white in his hair, the gold in his eyes. He stares in solemn, saddened silence as he thinks about just how much he’s managed to fail Sora, how he failed to save him, how he failed to notice that something was even this wrong until he could see it laid so plainly before him. He stares and says nothing, shedding not a single tear as he realizes the only thing he can really do right now is to somehow be strong for them both. Even if he doesn’t really want to be.
“Sora-” he starts, only to nearly lose his composure completely when Sora practically falls into his arms, Kairi following not long after.
“I’m sorry!” Sora cries, completely despondent by this point. “I’m so sorry for lying and hiding this and trying to fix this on my own even though I knew I can’t! I don’t know how to stop this, and I’m so, so scared that there isn’t any way to stop it-”
“We will stop it,” Kairi speaks up, her tone tight and anxious as she holds Sora even tighter. “W-we’ll find a way, we have to and we will. Won’t we, Riku?”
Riku takes in a long, deep breath, if only to steady himself for the journey on the road ahead of them now. A road that is bound to be long and painful, but one that needs to be taken. Especially if what’s waiting at the end of it is what somehow sets Sora’s already captive heart free.
“Go wake up the others,” he instructs the pair as he gets out of bed. “Tell them to pack their things. We’re leaving in an hour. We… have a lot to talk about.”
***
Word spreads between the other guardians of light like wildfire. Before they even leave Cinderella’s castle, each and every one of them hears about what’s happening, and very few of them are truly caught off guard when they see Sora’s startling change in appearance. The only three among them that had been in on his lie are surprised, however, to find out that the truth had slipped out so suddenly. Ventus breathes a sigh of relief, glad to know Sora won’t be able to drag this dangerous charade out any longer than he already has. Meanwhile, Donald and Goofy are both baffled by the mysterious failure of the glamour spell, something that the magician chalks up as a side effect of his magic mingling with Fairy Godmother’s. And since Fairy Godmother’s spell had worn off when the clock struck midnight, so too had the spell that had helped Sora hide his secret for so very long.
The trip back to the tower is a long, quiet one. No one’s really sure what to say or where to start, so they decide to discuss it all in a proper meeting instead. Said meeting kicks off almost as soon as they arrive, and it starts with Sora having no choice but to explain the situation to the other lights in full. He soberly shows them everything: his hair, his eyes, his hands, his scar, his Keyblade, even his powers in steady succession. Telling the full, unbridled truth is strange, in a sense; because even as much as he feared the thought of doing exactly this before, he can’t deny that actually unveiling it all is something of a bizarre relief. Like every secret he’s shedding is a weight finally lifting off his shoulders, weight he should have let someone else share a long time ago.
One he’s revealed everything he can, Yen Sid asks Sora to sit the rest of the meeting out. While the reasoning for such a request isn’t initially clear, he does so gracefully, waiting just outside the door for the others to emerge. And as he waits, his fretful thoughts wander to just how quickly things have gone wrong over the course of one night alone. Just how fast a night of dreams had turned into his worst nightmare.
After what feels like ages, Riku and Kairi finally leave the meeting behind. The others hang back, likely to give them a bit of privacy to allow the pair to relay to Sora the verdict they’ve all just reached.
“Ok, here’s the plan,” Riku begins, wearing the steadfast composure of the leader he was chosen to be. “The others are all heading out tomorrow to look for the rest of the Keys. Kairi and I are-”
“We’re staying here, with you,” Kairi interrupts, taking Sora’s hands and holding them tight. “At least for now. And while we’re here, we’re going to look into every way we can find to free you from… f-from this.”
“B-but… what if we can’t-”
“If we can’t find answers here, then we’ll look somewhere else,” Riku continues, resolved. “But we won’t stop until we find a way to help you, Sora. That’s a promise.”
“But it’s not a promise we can keep unless you promise to meet us halfway with this too,” Kairi insists earnestly. “Which means… no more lying, and no more secrets. You’ve always been able to trust both of us with anything before. That doesn’t have to change now, not even with something like this.”
Sora looks between the pair, caught off guard by the brazen plan he’s hearing. One that he desperately wants to believe will work, just as much as he wants to believe they actually mean what they say. But his anxious, guilt-ridden heart still finds room to foolishly doubt them all the same. “Y-you… you really want to help me?” he asks, his voice small and edged with shame for something he doesn’t feel he truly deserves.
“You know we do,” Riku vows as he gently pulls both Sora and Kairi close.
“More than anything else,” Kairi adds just as warmly, just as lovingly.
And… despite everything else, despite all of the fear and despair and remorse he’s still carrying… Sora decides to let that love--their love for him--lighten that load at least a little bit. “Then ok,” he finally smiles for the first time since the glamour faded. For the first time since he opened the door to let his two best friends back into his heart. “I promise.”

just venting abt shit on tumblr bc it’s just ingrained in me to air my dirty laundry here at this point
like im not even that upset that i ended the relationship bc yknow getting cheated on and lied to feels bad but dumping all of my emotional effort into that situation felt even worse. hell, it feels GOOD to have it over with. I am fucking relieved to be out of that situation.
im just big stressed bc im gonna be home alone (like actually alone bc my roommate is gone all the time) and the son of a bitch owns the switch I was playing animal crossing on so I don’t even have that form of escapism and I can’t go on toooooooooo big of a bender bc I still have exams and i don’t wanna fuck up vet school but I get so lonely so fast and i start feeling bad when im pestering people all day bc i can’t be stuck alone with my own brain
basically quarantine blows and fuck that entire relationship but GOD im needy and hatehatehate sleeping by myself im so gross-- not gross enough to want that shit back but it is Bad as I am extroverted and thrive on attention and like I cant even fire up tinder bc quarantine would just be fucking cock blocking me
OH and! one specifically shitty anecdote abt my ex to throw out there bc this is just realllllly boiling my blood and I just need to yell abt it in an area that it won’t stir up shit but like... i been thinking abt changing my name for ages now. My middle name is Rae so it’s yknow, already legally my name, reasonably androgynous, my family already calls me it sometimes, I like the name anyway, spelled less stupid than my first name-- basically a winning combination and I was getting really really comfy with the idea of it. brought it up to my ex several months ago and they were like “hmm :/ idk...... my sister’s name is Rachel so we call her that sometimes and it would be kinda weird ://///” and I was obvs put off but like I kinda understood I guess and THEN! THEN!!! fast forward to me finding out that they cheated on me TWICE and then lied to me about it for a whole fucking year!! guess what one of the bitches name was! RACHEL!!! so yeah that is utterly fucked up and i get so fucking MAD every time I think about that. furthermore, fuck that morally stunted self absorbed gremlin of a human and I’ll be calling myself whatever tf I want (probably Rae)
oh and ONE more thing! during the time he was lying to me it was SO clear something was wrong! I kept fucking begging and digging and trying to fix problems that I didn’t even know existed! there was so much distance and neglect and I fucking told them all of this and! they just fucking deflected to blame it on my own mental health and stress from MY career rather than just fessing tf up. and i was like “wow you fucking gaslit me about this for a whole fucking year what the fucking hell how could you NOT realize how you were treating me” and here’s the fucking KICKER the fucking piece de resistance they said “oh well I think i gaslit myself into thinking that it was your school stress too” BITCH!!!!! that’s not!!!!!!!!! how that fucking works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are fucking self centered and have a fucking god complex bc you make poems on a fucking typewriter get a fucking grip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahahahaha and this is only like newspaper clippings of all the terrible. i have so much more to fucking bitch about but tldr GOD im so happy that I left and if they cheat on you fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck them and don’t fucking waste 2 months of your life trying to fix it and distancing from cute people that try to talk to you for a rat fucking bastard that views you as some fucking plot device in their shitty, twisted little story
thank u for coming to my ted talk there will probably be more yelling in the future

As Long As She’s Happy | Peter Parker One Shot
Originally “Imagine Steve and Bucky finding out you’re dating Peter Parker.”
requested by: @thatbandchick39 !! thanks for requesting <3
“I haven’t seen ‘em,” Tony offered up with a shrug as he walked down the hallway. “Isn’t that your two’s job, to keep tabs of the kid? That was a part of the whole, ‘we’re taking her in as one of us?’” he followed up as he turned around to face and point to the two men behind him.
“Yes, but it’s just getting late, and I’m not big on her being out at night without someone near.” Steve tried to explain.
Raising an eyebrow, Tony tried to reason with him, not necessarily to help you, but to help educate on what the general youth did nowadays. “It’s 8pm. On a Friday. And knowing her, I highly doubt she’s alone.”
Knowing that last bit may have struck the wrong cord with Steve- God forbid anyone say a harsh word against you in front of him- Bucky got to the point. “It’s nothing major. We were just wondering if she had said anything specific when she left this afternoon.” Bucky said. “She’s been more vague recently, especially when she leaves here.”
Hearing this, Tony acted as if he had already raised 5 teenagers, “Well, that’s 17 year old’s for you. Never know what they’re gonna do. Maybe she finally reached that rebellion stage. I think we were all wondering whether or not she’d would with you two watching her.”
With a deep sigh Steve frowned, not really wanting to ask for many reasons, but his worry for you outweighed those reasons. “Do you have a tracker on her?”
Giving a look of ‘you should know better,’ Tony nodded, “Of course I have a tracker on her. I have a tracker on all the young ones.”
“Can we just check on her real quick?”
“Cap, I’ve learned from past experience that kids don’t typically like it when you snoop on them. You know, breaching of trust or whatever. They get snippy and sneak around more; not always a great decision,” Tony tried to warn him.
Getting to the point, Bucky spoke up. “We just want to make sure she’s safe. That’s it.” It’s not that they didn’t trust you; they didn't always trust the people around you, and most of the time neither he nor Steve really knew who you were with. Tony was right, seldom were you alone- solitary was never something you enjoyed, and so they both worried who you may be with.
“Fine, fine, but if she finds out and gets upset; this is not on me.” Stark gave the disclaimer before pulling out his phone and bringing up the tracker hologram. “There she is. Queens.” he pointed to the small dot on the projection.
Glancing at Steve, Bucky shook his head, “Why is she all the way out in Queens?”
“I don’t know.”
Hearing this, Tony paused for a moment looking at the screen, specifically at other tracker that was commonly in Queens that was right next to yours. Narrowing his eyes a bit, he nodded. “Right, I think I might know why she’s been sneaking around you two.”
“What? Why is she there?”
“Well, she’s with Peter.”
Lying overlapped in a chair, you held onto one of Peter’s hands as the two of you only partly watched the movie on the screen. Gently tracing the outline of his hand with your thumb, your mind was too preoccupied to focus on the movie. “I really don’t like you being all by yourself. Are you sure you don’t want to come back upstate with me?” you admitted. It seemed that all of Peter’s friends are gone out of town for the week, leaving him by himself. Even Aunt May had to go a short trip for work, so except for you, he was all by himself, and even you were going to have to go back home relatively soon.
With a look down two you, he shook his head and gave a soft smile. “It’s fine. Don’t worry; I’ll find stuff to do by myself. Patrol, study for that AP exam, maybe try to learn how to cook chicken right?”
You frowned. “But you don’t have to. C’mon. You know you’re more than welcome in Stark Towers. I know for a fact Tony would rather have you there then some of the other Avengers that are there now,” you tried to persuade him.
A small sigh came out of him, “Yeah, but if I went up there with you, then we’d have to sneak around, cause yeah…” he trailed off, well aware that neither of you had really gone public on your relationship to anyone on your side. Almost everyone on Peter’s side knew you two were together, but no one on yours, and it got tricky when he would go up to Stark Towers and see you there, because he had act like you were just another person there and not his girlfriend. “I just- I hate acting like I don’t care about you as much as I do- I just don’t want to treat you like you mean anything less to me, and we have to do that whenever we’re up there. I know how protective they are of you.”
Feeling your heart drop a little, you shook your head, not liking him feeling like this. Sitting up so you could look directly at him, you spoke. “You know, maybe we should just tell them. I don’t sneaking around and hiding from them either,” you admitted, fidgeting with Peter’s hand as you held it within your own. “And I know we’ve hid, because we didn’t know how they’d react to me dating you, but I know, they’ll think you’re great- I mean they already do, but you know, I want them to think your great not only as Spiderman, but as my boyfriend.” You tried reassuring him with a smile.
For a moment he paused, not knowing what he should do next. Now, it wasn’t that Peter didn’t want everyone to know that you were his girlfriend; it was never that. You made him so happy and if he could, he would let everyone know that you were the one who made his days better that he could have ever asked for. The only thing that really stopped you two from admitting your relationship to everyone else was the fact that you were under Steve and Bucky’s guardianship; two men that he had fought against as opponents. It was something to meet your girlfriend’s guardians, but it was another thing to meet your girlfriend's guardians knowing very well that they had already beat the shit out of you, and could do it again.
Then squeezing your hand, he nodded. “Well, it has been almost two years since I kicked Captain America in the face. That’s enough time to heal before I admit that I'm dating you, right?” he joked.
With a smile beginning to form, you laughed, “Right, and if you’ve gotten past the fact that he dropped an entire bridge on you, then they both should have gotten over everything you did. ”
Remembering that moment, Peter looked away, “Yeah, that was a hell of a first impression,” he mumbled.
“And this can’t be worse than that!” you laughed, only partially joking.
Quickly snapping back into the current moment he smiled at you, “Ok, let’s get ready then.” he said before giving you a quick kiss.
And within the hour the pair of you were pulling into Stark Towers. Getting out the car and beginning your walk into the complex you reached out and grabbed Peter’s hand- something so simple, but something that the pair of you hadn’t been able to do here before. Making your way onto the elevator that led up to the more residential part of the building, the elevator stopped two floors before your destination. Stepping onto the elevator Tony nodded to you two. As the doors closed he, nodded, “I’m gonna help you two out by letting you know that Cap and Bucky know something’s up.”
“Huh, what-?” Peter asked.
Pointing at you two, Tony shook his head, “Oh, I didn’t tell them anything about you two dating. Though if they would have looked in your room and noticed that you have at least 4 of Peter’s sweatshirts, they could have figured that out.”
Instantly turning to Tony, you narrowed your eyes, “You let them see the trackers though, didn’t you?”
“That I did,” he admitted as the elevator stopped one floor before yours, “Oh look! Here’s my stop! Have fun you two!” he smirked before stepping off.
Looking up to Peter who was already looking down to you, both of you just shared the silent thought, “There goes plan A.” And with the doors opening, you both knew that you hadn’t any time to come up with a plan B, but you honestly didn’t need one. Getting off the elevator, you called out, “I’m home! Peter’s here too!”
Turning to see you two walk off the elevator, Peter’s hand intertwined in yours, both Bucky and Steve already had a feeling about the answer they were going to receive.
“Welcome back,” Bucky offered giving a soft smile to you, instantly seeing that you were more tense than normal. He was never a fan of you being uneasy, and in that particular instant he knew it was because of him and Steve that you were more unsteady that normal, so he was trying to be easy on you.
Standing up, Steve looked to the two of you and nodded, “Hey Peter,” he offered before looking to you, “Do you mind if we talk real quick?” he asked.
Suddenly feeling nervous, you gave one final glance to Peter who looked equally as nervous as you, but still nodded, encouraging you. “Actually, can we talk to you first?” you asked.
“Yeah, of course, always.” Steve replied.
“So, we’re kinda….” you trailed off, squeezing Peter’s hand as you spoke.
“Together.” Peter finished for you. “We’re together.”
You nodded. “Yeah. Together,” you affirmed again.
“Oh- ok. Thanks for letting know.” Steve smiled, a bit caught off guard that you fessed up without him having to say anything, but also glad that he wasn’t going to have to have an even more stressful talk with you.
Slightly taken aback by how calm he was about it, you continued, “Sorry I didn’t say anything about it earlier. I just wasn’t sure how you’d guys be with Peter being, you know, Spiderman and stuff.”
“As long as you’re happy, that’s all we care about. That’s our main goal with you, that you’re happy.” Bucky tried to reassure you.
And at that moment, you could help but smile, a weight lifted off of you. Stepping a little closer to Peter, you held onto his arm and looked to him, “And I am.” Then looking back to your guardians you nodded, “Well, we'll leave you guys to it; we were gonna go finish a movie.”
Steve nodded, “Ok, let us know if you need anything.”
You two nodded, both saying, “Thanks!” simultaneously.
“And- uh- Peter you know Tony has your room one floor down. Make sure you use it.” Steve added, ensuring while both him and Bucky were fine with you two dating that there were certainly still rules.
“Right- Right! Won’t forget, Captain!” he quickly replied, conscious of staying on Steve’s good side. Then putting an arm around you and pulling you in close as you two left the main room, he whispered, “Is this a trap…?”
“I have no idea,” you admitted.
“Is he gonna drop another bridge on me again…?”
“Also- no idea; let’s just keep walking…” you hushed before quickly turning around and waving, “Night! We’ll see you later!” you offered before the two of you left the room.
Hearing the door lock after the two of you, Steve nodded to Bucky, “He’s a good kid...”
“And she’s happy with him, and that’s what matters,” Bucky finished.

“Hostile Takeover”, part 4
Fandom: Wreck-It Ralph
Summary: The world is a dangerous place. With his power to control cy-bugs, King Candy reigns supreme, and his biggest target is capturing Vanellope. Her only hope is a small group of rebels hidden in the wastelands of Hero’s Duty that are aiming to take out the tyrant king.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Writer’s note: *wipes forehead* Pheeeeew, it’s done! This chapter like to have kicked my butt. I started it nearly a month ago, and finally finished it on Sunday. But after sitting on it for a day then rereading it, I rewrote some of it and add more so I guess the delay was beneficial! Cal and Felix are the front runners in this part, so you HC shippers enjoy XD
“Listen up, ladies!” Sergeant Calhoun barked, pacing the span of the line of soldiers, “Thanks to our friend, Wreck-It, who caused a ruckus the size of the Jupiter, our plan to takedown King Candy-bug will be 100 times harder.”
Her boots tapped solidly on the metal ground as she made her way to the end of the row. She glared daggers at the two men who were murmuring to one another.
“Hey Jake,” Ralph called under his breath.
“Yeah?” Markowski said out of the side of his mouth.
“Have you noticed lately that Sarge has been angrier than usual?”
Markowski chuckled to himself. “When is Sarge not angry?”
“Watch yourself, boys,” Kohut warned, nodding his chin to the oncoming reprimand.
“Wreck-It! Markowski!” Calhoun yelled, and the two men jumped to attention. “Want to share your little discussion with the class?”
“No, Sarge,” Markowski answered, looking far too prepared for a blow to the face.
Calhoun offered mercy to the soldier…this time, and focused her eagle eyes on Ralph. “Wreck-It, if you can’t take this threat seriously, then you can get the hell out of Wasteland.”
“I do take this seriously. I want King Candy gone as much as any of you, probably more than anyone here!”
Calhoun grabbed the neck of his armor, Ralph’s rebuttal falling at her feet. “Then prove it to me!” Black fuzz invaded the sergeant’s vision. She closed her eyes, holding her head as her whole body swayed. Her knees gave out from under her, and the last thing Calhoun heard was Kohut calling name.
The faint hint of light edged the opening of her eyelids as Calhoun became aware of the surroundings. She rolled to her side, the fatigued state of her muscles angering her. Weak was not an option, especially for someone in her position.
“Stay down, soldier,” a gruff voice ordered. Who the hell would give her an order?
“I’m your superior officer, Kohut.” Calhoun tried to push into a sitting position, but a firm hand gently pressed her shoulder against the examine table.
“You may be my superior officer, but you’re also my friend. You need to stay put while the doctor checks you over.”
Calhoun glared at him, but complied. The doctor had barely begun to take her vitals when there was a clamber outside the room, and a frantic Felix appeared at her side.
“Tammy! Are you okay? Ralph told me you’d passed out and were taken to the medic.” He grabbed up her hand, holding it as if she’d fall into the oblivion if he let go. “Does the doctor know what’s wrong?”
“Fix-It.” Calhoun pinned Felix with the sharpest look she could in her weakened state. Even though she knew he was probably worried out of his mind, his overwhelming concern would only agitate her. “The doctor was about to run an exam. Scoot back and let the man do his job.”
Felix held her gaze before kissing the back of her palm and stepped out the way. Calhoun tried her best to smile softly to show her gratitude for him backing off. Kohut excused himself now that he was no longer needed, reminding Calhoun to fill him in later.
The doctor proceeded with the exam. Calhoun felt the awkward silence dragged on for hours as her small husband watched, wringing his gloved hands. When the doctor asked her if anything out of the ordinary had been happening to her lately, Calhoun fessed up, “I’ve had several bouts of vomiting, along with fatigue.”
“Tamora Jean!” Felix gasped. “You were sick more than once?” He was at her bedside again, fixing her with a stern eye. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because of this,” Calhoun gestured toward him, scowling. “You get so worked up over me.”
“I am your husband, and I am concerned for you.” Felix crossed arms over his chest, pouting.
Calhoun groaned, rubbing the heels of her hands down her face. “See anything out of the ordinary, doc?”
The doctor suggested running a blood test; Calhoun served up her arm for the needle. Rest was ordered, though Calhoun knew her body would have to be lying cold dead on the side of a road before she got any rest. She also knew Felix wouldn’t leave her side until results from the blood test were in.
Calhoun ordered Ralph to keep the handyman busy during training and strategy hours. It was a cruel plan and Felix would have a fit over her avoidance, but it had to be done to keep her sanity. Concentrating on the ongoing war was more important than wondering over her health, especially when there was no answer.
Two days passed before the blood test results were concluded. Sitting alone in the doctor’s office, Tamora heard her whole world collapse into a heap of mangled plans.
She trudged back to her quarters, her mind a mess of questions and uncertainty. She found Felix waiting her as he had the last couple of days since her fainting incident.
The instant he saw her, he knew. “You got your results?”
Tamora walked passed him, and plopped down heavily on their bed. Felix joined her, touching her arm; the bulky armor she wore for training removed before seeing the doctor.
“Tammy, talk to me, please.”
She looked his way, though her face was obscured by her long bangs. There were many ways to explain, but only one simple answer was needed, “I’m pregnant.”
The look of shock that froze Felix in place quickly melted into pure joy. He clutched her arm, pushing up onto his knees to face her better. “We’re having a baby?”
“That’s usually what happened when someone is pregnant,” Tamora quipped, though the humor was missing from her voice.
“It’s a miracle!” Felix flung his arms around her, planting several kisses to the crown of her head. “I didn’t think it was possible. We’re from two different worlds; we weren’t supposed to be able to have children.”
“Looks like we kicked the odd’s ass.”
Felix swept the curtain of bangs behind her ear, his hand lingering on her cheek. “Tammy, this is wonderful.” The smile that lit his face brighter than the sun clinched Tamora’s heart. All Felix could see was blue skies and sunshine, but reality was a cold-blooded monster, content to swallow any ounce of joy.
She got to her feet, and began pacing the floor. Someone had to lay down the harsh facts, and she was the most qualified, whether she liked it or not.
“This isn’t wonderful, Fix-It.” Tamora kept her gaze to the wall, floor, anywhere she couldn’t catch a glimpse of the heartbreak she was about to deliver. “It’s possibly the worst thing that can happen!”
She felt the lightness in the room suddenly go dim like a blanket thrown over a lamp. Felix stood up on the bed, trying to catch her eye, but Tamora avoided him.
“How can you say that?” She didn’t need to look at him; the disappointment was painfully evident in his voice. “I know we’d given up on the idea of having children, but I thought somewhere deep down you still wished we could.”
“I did, but the point is not what me or you want.” Tamora finally turned to him, gesturing towards the door where the outside world waited. “We’re at war, Felix. There’s a crazed lunatic out there who mercilessly kills; whose prime target is a little girl who has done nothing to him.”
She slabbed a thumb to her chest, driving the point, “I command the army that heavens willing will take the bastard down one day. I’m needed on the frontline; I don’t have time to worry about the well-being of a person growing inside me. I’m okay if I die in battle, but a child – our child-“
Tamora pressed her tightly curled fists to her eyes, taking two deep breathes. The silence surrendering them was maddening. Her mind felt on fire, crackling and burning every good thought, leaving an ash heap.
“How can we bring a baby into this warped world, Felix?” Her hands fell limply to her sides.
Felix stayed planted on the bed for several beats, his crushed expression digging into the already bleeding wound in Tamora’s chest. He reached his hand out for her to come to him, and Tamora didn’t hesitate to enter his embrace. His name was Fix-It, but his special ability wasn’t the reason Tamora felt unbroken in his hold.
“I don’t know, Tammy,” Felix murmured against her ear. “It may be tomorrow we get the best on King Candy, or it may be 10 years from now. I promise I’ll protect both of you, even if I must be on alarm 24/7.”
Tamora squeezed her eyes closed tightly, knowing he would keep his word. If there was one thing to say about Felix, he was unwittingly brave when it came to what mattered most. Just him alone wouldn’t be able to keep the gnawing shadows from their threshold, but what chose did they have?
A baby was forming inside her; a part of her and a part of Felix. Tamora had to accept it whether the timing was convenient or not, and the devastating idea of losing the baby while engaged in battle was a risk she had to take.
“I hate this,” Tamora murmured, her whole body drudged down under the weight of disquietude. She lied on the bed, draping an arm over her view. “I hate this war, I hate living in hiding, and I hate that psycho–bug-hybrid.”
She felt the bed shift beside her, and Tamora slid her arm away from her face. “I hate it too, Tammy. Everything about our situation makes me so cross! I miss our home; our adventures; being able to simply bake in our kitchen.” The anger dropped from Felix’s voice, and the feel of his touch on her stomach caught the breath in her throat. “But we have to make the best of what we have right now, and if all we have is each other, then that’s gonna have to be enough.”
Tamora slid her arm away from her face, resting it alongside Felix’s hand on her tummy. Blue skies and sunshine, but she needed his tiny ray of sunshine because sometimes that’s the only thing that kept her going.
