"Who's been sleeping in MY bed?" the little one asked

I had a comment on my previous post asking if Jimin & JK stayed at the same hotel in NY and I realised I had assumed Jimin stayed in JK's room. But I don't think he did and I have thoughts on this whole situation.

[[ETA a few ppl have mentioned they had to read this twice. I apologise that this post jumps around and meanders and side-tracks all over. Believe it or not i did try to organise it... unfortunately it's an accurate representation of my brain]]

It's taken a few (probably way more than necessary) hours of looking at every bloody room in the Loews-Regency NY, and going back and forth between Are You Sure, I am Still, and the AYS behind clips to work it it but I can confidently say I know exactly* what unfolded on the night Jimin arrived in NY...

*clearly a lie, since we never REALLY know anything... However by collecting all the clues** left in these 3 series I do have a lot of circumstantial evidence. Combining that with a bit of deductive reasoning and a healthy dose of speculation, I have a decent enough theory.

** This cannot be accidental. The same people would be responsible (to an extent) for all three series. They have managed not to re-use any content, except once or twice we get the same scene from different angles. And that means we have a lot of information. BH knows army well enough to know we are absolutely going to gather up the (red) threads of these series and stitch together a story.

This is what i know:

Jungkook was in a Two Bedroom Suite - he had the master bedroom.

A Grand Executive Suite was used as a dressing room (but not much else).

Jimin had a Grand Executive Suite to himself (almost).

This is what I have reasonable evidence of:

Jungkook's master bedroom in the two bedroom suite was clearly used. Clothes on a chair, two open suitcases, personal items on the nightstand etc are evidence of the space being occupied. However when we saw him packing to leave for AYS, the bed looked largely unused. A dent in one pillow (the other pillows thrown across the bed) shows someone lay down on the bed, but the comforter was undisturbed and even the blanket at the bottom of the bed was still in place.

At first i was amazed that JK's suite is shown almost without restriction. It is not treated as a private space. But then i realised we see a number of staff moving in and out of the space too. It dawned on me that even though JK has an area for his own use (the master bedroom) this is considered a work environment, much like the hotels in BV and ITS.

So it's unsuprising that when filming, the staff casually follow JK around as he does his thing, even making a point of showing spaces we wouldn't otherwise see - like the master bathroom with its great big tub. Jungkook himself invites us into the living area when he checks on reactions to the Seven MV. and in AYS we get a glimpse into the kitchen.

We don't get to see the second bedroom or bathroom so I assume a staff member - maybe JK's manager - used those.

Compare this to the way Jimin's space is treated:

Jimin's suite is treated - mostly - as a private space. It's not just careful editing. By the actions of the staff members filming him we can see they are very aware of this.

We see it at the start of AYS when the staff member wakes Jimin up. They stay in the doorway of Jimin's suite, literally not even stepping inside. We see only a glimpse of the (second) bathroom, and the footage is cut when the camera pans away. Jimin seems quite cheerful about being on camera despite his sleep swollen face and his bed hair, but nevertheless the staff member doesn't enter his room.

On both occasions when we see Jimin's suite, the staff member recording him is cautious about being his space.

That's not something we often see when BTS are on camera - especially not as overtly we saw it here. The privacy of Jimin's suite is very obviously being respected.

Packing for AYS: Jungkook vs Jimin (and the MOOD)

In the Behind clip for AYS we see both of them packing for their getaway.

Jungkook seems quite unbothered about having his packing process documented as he moves around the big suite. It crosses no boundaries for him. He hums and haws about what to take, he chats to the staff member, and he talks to the camera as he moves from room to room. He knows he's working and this is part of his job.

Jimin, on the other hand is rattled. He stuffs his clothes into the cumbersome bag with visible annoyance, not even taking the time to open the bag properly.

Now remember, Jimin is a performer. He goes out of his way to be charming and entertaining. He knows how to turn that on for the camera and in this moment he's choosing not to.

He doesn't engage with the audience.

He doesn't talk to the staff member.

He doesn't turn towards the camera.

He gives nothing.

He huffs in exasperation as he struggles with the bag, and his movements are tense and abrupt.

Prickly is the word that comes to mind, but honestly that doesn't even cover it.

When he's done packing, he snatches that bag up and marches out of the room without a second glance.

His hair covers his eyes like a shield as he walks toward the camera but the tightness in his neck and jaw betrays strong emotion.

Yeah he's not happy

He slips through the half open door and strides down the hallway.

I get the feeling that if the staff member didn't move fast enough, Jimin would run them over.

When something like this happens, my response is usually to look closer, so let's do that.

Firstly Jimin is a consummate professional. He can usually put a good face on any situation. But in this case he doesn't even seem to try. I guess whatever is bothering him is not something he can or will just brush off in that moment.

So what's actually happening here?

What is it that's pissed Jimin off to such an extent?

Let's look at it again...

They are filming him pack his bag. The staff member stands closely beside Jimin and focuses only him, his bag, and the sofa.

Let's be honest, there is absolutely nothing interesting about this scene (except the implications we are currently unpacking).

They could have made this count for a little more, maybe by panning around the room or changing the position of the camera in relation to Jimin. But they don't. Even when, by chance, there's a glimpse of what looks like takeout containers on the coffee table and some random debris on the chair behind Jimin, the staff member moves so that we only see Jimin, the bag and the sofa. That is all we're getting.

That's a clear decision and there has to be a reason for that decision.

When they leave the room, we have an abrupt cut before the camera backs out the door and down the hallway. That's another clear decision. The staff member could easily have moved behind Jimin and followed him out of the suite but this keeps them - and us - out of Jimin's personal (private) space and he remains the literal gatekeeper to that room.

Once they are out of the room Jimin lifts his head briefly, shakes his hair out of his eyes, and strides purposefully - defiantly even - on. He still doesn't interact or make eye contact. He still isn't giving them (or us) a damn thing, and even the funky upbeat muzak they've used can't alleviate the tension in this scene.

So why is Jimin in a mood?

We know Jimin was there for one night before they began filming for AYS. So all this takes place before filming for AYS began.

And that, in my mind, is the key.

Jungkook was promoting his album and he expected to be on camera. He knew the space he occupied was a filming location. Jungkook was already at work when he was packing for AYS. but Jimin was not.

Okay, but this a BIG MOOD... what else is happening?

It's not the end of the world to be asked to start your schedule a little earlier, is it? We know Jimin was already awake...

But they came into his room.

I don't believe he expected to have anyone in his private suite - anyone besides Jungkook. And I don't believe he agreed happily, based on his behaviour.

I'm 99% sure Jungkook spent the night in Jimin's suite for two reasons.

Logically it makes sense that they would choose the place they have the most privacy, and even though Jungkook had the master bedroom and a private bathroom in the bigger suite, that is a WORK LOCATION. It's not his private space.

Add to that Jungkook saying he was packed and ready to go, and only needed to brush his teeth which he would do when Jimin arrived. He even told us where he would be putting his toothbrush (future tense).

It's not hard to guess where his toothbrush was. And why.

So we have two healthy young adults who (we are told repeatedly by Jungkook) have barely seen each other. The flirting started at the restaurant, and we've already seen the evidence of a night spent in energetic passion.

And we have a closed-up room. I don't know how much air would be circulating in that room with the blinds down and the doors closed. I don't know how much air would need to circulate to remove the ...how can I put this delicately? the ripe and musky scent of celebration. I expect there was A LOT of celebration...

And we have Jimin. Jimin is MESSY. Jimin breaks mosquito nets and marks people's necks and pushes boundaries even in public. He throws his things about with not a care in the world... clothes, yes, and other things. How many of Jimin's tissues has JK picked up? You get the picture. It's a Biohazard.

Lastly, we have (or had) an expectation of privacy, of no staff, of restricted access.

Now there's a person in his private space unexpectedly. And they have a camera.

So Jimin is pissed off.

I'd be pissed off too.

He seems to be over it by the time they're filming the preamble to AYS, but he obviously felt compromised and deeply uncomfortable. I am glad he made it clear he was unhappy.

This highlights for me the importance of them having agency over their content and their personal time and space. On this occasion he must have reluctantly (and with conditions) agreed but I hope that in future his boundaries are respected.

I hope even more that ARMY (and Jikookers especially. I hold us to a higher standard) remember that their personal time and space is precious to them, and they deserve to enjoy their lives away from the public eye. Like the rest of us they should have the freedom and confidence to do what they want (no matter how messy) without the fear that someone with a camera will invade their space and record them.

Please don't go to Jungkook's house, even while he's not there. It's not a tourist attraction.

Hi! I recently saw a post about a live Jimin did for his birthday. In this live he had a cake that said “you are my Park filter” writing on it. Jungkook said he made the cake for Jimin. But Jimin had previously said the cake was giving to him by the staff. Do you know if the cake was actually from Jungkook?

That live was truly something, so much to unpack! It was interesting (very), revealing and undeniably telling.

I'm sure most of you already know all the details of this live, but let's go over it again because it never gets old.

The first thing that caught my eye during this live was the decorations in the background

Compared to the other member's birthday setups that year, Jimin's definitely stood out

The other members mostly had simple decorations with photos and writing. The only exception was Seokjin, whose setup was special because it also celebrated the release of "Super Tuna" which dropped on his birthday. Otherwise, his too would have been like the other five. Even though, Seokjin's setup was a bit more elaborate than the other five, it still didnt compare to Jimin's.

Jimin's had so much going on. The balloons, the color coordination, the writing and a birthday banner.

I thought about it and the only reason that makes sense is that it wasn't just done by the staff like the others. In Jimin's case it was all arranged by Jungkook.

Let's break it down one by one.

First, the JM balloons which resemble the JM tattoo on Jungkook's hand. Even with that same gap. And yes, JM is definitely Jimin. Jungkook said so during Run BTS when he pluck out the J and M balloons out of the PAJAMA PARTY, stuck them on his chest, went up to Jimin and said "JM, Jimin". Jungkook got his tattoo in Sept 2019. This episode aired in March 2020 but it was shot in 2019. Most probably in Aug 2019. Anyway it was before Jungkook got his tattoos.

Next, there's the yellow and purple color coordination. Jimin and Jungkook's representative colors. The yellow JM balloons were placed over purple heart balloons and there were yellow and purple hearts placed side by side. Talk about obvious! Not to mention the red heart balloons added a sweet touch.

Then there was the "Cutie, Sexy, Lovely. Happy Birthday Jimin"

Back to the live, Jimin mentioned that the decorations and cake were prepared by the staff. I'll leave that there for now and share my thoughts on it at the end. For now let's keep going.

I think he read a comment asking about the members and he replied like this:

But then he did something which caught my attention. He spun in that chair, moved toward the decorations and pointed at them with both hands

To me it felt like he was hinting that a "certain member" did this for him. Otherwise why would he do that right after talking about the members and saying he wished just "one" of them was with him?

He then talks about his daily routine. A few minutes later he reached for his phone, seemed to be contemplating and finally made the call to Jungkook, asking him to join the live and keep him company.

So, Jimin made the call to the "one" he truly wanted there with him. It's always Jungkook for Jimin and here he is proving it again. I'm sure Hoseok would have come too if Jimin had asked, but it wasn't Hoseok who he needed. It was Jungkook.

Just one minute. 60 secs. That's all it took for Jungkook to show up at the studio. What is he??? Superman?!

He was working out with two others when Jimin called, but he dropped everything and rushed over because he knew his bf wanted company for the live. In the process he even spoiled his new haircut which he wanted to surprise ARMY with. But priorities are priorities and for him Jimin always comes first.

Then we are treated to some adorable Jikook moments.

Jungkook says he's leaving and he's out the door when Jimin asks him to fetch water for him. He not only brings water but also Soju. He's about to leave again when they hear a knock. Jungkook opens the door and it's Hoseok. And Jungkook stays back too to chat a bit with both of them.

Let’s pause and talk about something interesting. Notice how Hoseok knocked for someone to open the door, while Jungkook just walked right in? Before Jungkook entered, you can hear the sound of the machine granting entry. That’s the first clue that the studio belongs to Jungkook (if it wasn't already clear from the decor). HYBE’s studio rooms have face and fingerprint scans that only allow access to the assigned member. That’s why Jungkook could enter freely, while Hoseok had to knock.

This live clearly proves what I'm saying. From the 59 min mark you can see Hoseok scanning his face and fingerprints to enter his studio:

Then what about Jimin? We will know about it soon.

Let's continue again.

Hoseok mentions a strong smell in the room, like spicy garlic fried chicken. Jungkook immediately says he wants it, and Jimin agrees. Jungkook suggests ordering it, but Jimin reminds him that his mom is already cooking for him (or maybe for both of them?).

Jimin's expression nearly slipped but he caught himself.

By now, Hoseok knew exactly what was going on. He wasn’t done yet and went in for the final blow:

When Hoseok teased Jimin about continuing the live in his studio, Jungkook quickly tried to change the subject by bringing up the 3J Butter version, a bit too obviously 😅

They drank soju, and Jimin left with Jungkook and Hoseok from Jungkook's studio. He lingered outside for nearly a minute, making me wonder if he was complaining, whining to Hoseok about spilling the beans. Moments later, the machine sounds granting entry into the studio and Jimin walks in. So, now its clear that Jungkook's studio allows access to Jimin too.

And even if the studio has a password system still the point is that others have to knock while Jimin can enter by unlocking it himself.

Now to answer your question about the cake, yes, I think Jungkook was the one who arranged it. Jimin probably chose not to share that with us, just like he did with the decorations. The wordings on the cake and the decorations on the wall felt too personal like something which comes from your significant other instead of from a fellow band member. So, he likely decided to say they were from the staff.

What we see and hear about their relationship is probably just 25% of the full picture.

Take their companion enlistment, for example. They got confirmation regarding it on 6th Sept 2023. But to make that happen, they must have started discussing about it in early 2023. Yet we only found out when it was officially announced.

The same goes for the hickey situation. During the Jinjikook live in December 2016, Jungkook used a pic of himself to make Jimin stay in the live. When he posted the pic we speculated the hickey to be from Jimin but we had no confirmation about this. Years later, in 2021, Jungkook casually walked in with a hickey and confirmed it was from Jimin.

Next is Taehyung's Osaka live in 2016. The one where Jungkook was dressed down and playing music before Tae entered. Here too we speculated that Jimin was hiding in Jungkook's room but had no confirmations. Then, during the April 2022 live, Jimin mentioned how he's usually dressed down at home and Hoseok chimed in with "And Jungkook's in charge of the music, right?" leaving Jimin momentarily speechless.

Think about all those times we speculated they were sharing hotel rooms. We've had plenty of confirmations from the other members' words and reactions, Jikook's own actions, and even that hidden cam their company set up.

Most of these confirmations came gradually over the years through OG content, the members' words, and Jikook's own actions. Now, think about a fan—not an anti—who doesn’t watch OG content, early-year footage, or only follows their own bias. Speaking from a Jikook perspective, they're unaware of many things we’ve noticed. Their lack of awareness doesn’t mean those things don’t exist. It just means they don't know about it because Jikook hasn’t shared them directly (I mean like a verbal confirmation) even though they’re clearly reflected in Jimin and Jungkook's actions.

This is exactly why some jkkrs feel insecure. Understanding Jikook is a time consuming process. You have to watch as much content as possible from all the members, see the bigger picture, read their magazine interviews over the years and read between the lines to pick up on the hints and subtleties conveyed which they leave for us to figure out on our own. Stop hating on the other members. At the end of the day they're all a family and each one of them cares deeply about the other. It also takes empathy to recognize that Jikook are a closeted couple, which means they might tone down their moments when they feel they're oversharing.

During this live Jimin mentions how he felt awkward with the cam while shooting for their behinds footages but still he acted as if he wasn't. It reminds me of their debut years. Did you realize he was playing the "macho guy" role back then? I didn’t, not until he mentioned it in the BTS documentary. It isn't him lying. It was him simply playing the role he was assigned until he found it comfortable to be himself in front of the camera and audience. Just like Seokjin who had to act the cool guy part during the debut years.

I bring this up to explain the cake and decoration situation. Its Jimin choosing not to share it with us. And this is the same Jimin who mentioned Jungkook visiting his room more than the managers and staying for hours "doing nothing." I’m pretty sure they were sharing the room, but Jimin chose not to say it outright instead choosing to only share a part of the truth.

Jungkook tones it down by saying that it's because Jimin's room is the closest. And this is the same Jungkook who, during his 2023 lives, watched hours of Jimin’s content, constantly asked Jimin to come over or asked if he could go over to Jimin's and showed just how much he missed Jimin when he was busy with work. A big part of his 2023 lives was basically him fanboying over Jimin, supporting him, cheering him on and also made it obvious to us that he misses his bf. So much for toning it down.

Sometimes, it’s the passage of time and changing circumstances that push people to make bold choices and prioritize their happiness above all else.

That’s what I realized when I heard about their military enlistment news. That’s what I felt when I saw Jikook in AYS. It was them choosing their love and happiness above everything else—despite all the critical eyes and opinions.

This goes out to both antis and insecure jkkrs. When you bring up things like Jungkook not knowing about Jimin's tattoo or Jimin not knowing Jungkook's schedule and a bunch of other nonsense, I can’t help but laugh. They probably do know. They're just choosing not to share it. Or pretending not to know, like Hoseok did here. Maybe they feel it’s not their place to share it or they don’t want to overshare or because they want to keep certain things in their relationship to themselves. Privacy! Both of them value that a lot. And it's important that people keep certain matters private in order to protect their relationship. They’re not obligated to report every detail they know about each other to us. However, for 10 years, they’ve shown us more than enough about what they mean to each other. Which in itself is a huge deal. For them it's all about balance.

A healthy relationship strikes the perfect balance between celebrating love openly and cherishing private moments. Publicly, it's beautiful to express love, share happy moments, and show appreciation for each other. It solidifies the bond and lets others witness that joy.

However, the real strength often lies in the private moments. Those quiet conversations, unspoken understandings, and personal challenges faced together. Protecting those sacred spaces from outside noise allows the relationship to grow stronger without external pressures.

This balance isn't about hiding. It's about choosing what to share and what to hold close to your heart. It’s like saying "We are happy, and that's ours to protect".

And Jikook are doing an amazing job practicing this balance despite their surroundings and circumstances.

For the three weeks, Yoongi was hoping you'd call. He didn't hope for his baby, his favorite dog, to fall ill, or get hit by a car. But maybe... maybe he'd do something so unbearably funny that you'd want to call him on video and show. So he'd see your face. Hear your voice. He was feeling something apart from irritation and stress for the first time in a while, and it was good. Warm curling snake in his stomach, clear view inside his head. He knew he had to do something about it. Because at first, this feeling was like a mosquito bite. Stang and wouldn't let him focus on things, and he tried to shoo it away, but once he woke up at night to discover that it has spread into his body. He hadn't seen you for the whole September and then four months after, and somehow the imprint of your face was stuck on the inside of his eyelid. He still chuckled when he thought of Namjoon's birthday, and it bothered him. Finally he realized it's actually good. It felt right. A human to a human, what's so criminal about it? Doesn't he deserve someone smiling at him?

He cherished the feeling so rare for him, understanding it doesn't happen often, and he honored it, decided he has to know. The dogsitting op moved slowly and was kind of disappointing. Nothing happened, except he knew Holly was in good hands. The fact that he had to drive all the way to Daegu, beg his parents to give Holly up for a month, and then drive back all in the same day, still seemed a little insane to him. He hoped it didn't put a strain on the dog.

So, he decided that once he returns and sees you again, he'll ask you out. For once his idol card might be useful, he didn't care, if it helps him, then fine. He just needs one chance.

You didn't call. You texted him diligently, every other day, updating him about Holly. His camera roll once again was full of his dog's pictures which also felt right. He only wished you'd want to hear his voice like he wanted to hear yours.

He had big hopes for a show. If seventy thousand girls lose their freaking minds when he tilts his head and smiles, then surely one will be moved by it, too. The vibration of the floor, the loud music, him together with his band, this was the peak of what he could be. There was nothing else he could give. It's been three weeks of texts from you, and now he finally got to see you again after the show. He searched for the confirmation in the subtle movements of the other members, as if they could know. To some extent, they did. They were aware that Y/N was coming to see the show tonight. Namjoon was very happy about it, in his usual sibling way. That's great! Platonic and pure. Yoongi saw that there was nothing between him and you. Minji probably had knitted that out of the air, and the socials follow was friendly. If there had been something, Yoongi would've bowed his head and stepped away. He hoped he would have.

As he left the stage, the throbbing in his chest just started. The anxiety just now hit him. His heart was beating in huge gulps with the adrenaline and exhaustion, and yet his head only started spinning now. He puffed a portion of it away, wearing his usual post-show face: happy, relaxed, content with himself. He walked in line behind Jin and looked around once the stage and her blinding glow, and deafening wail, was out of sight. He spotted you hiding in the cavity between the two now-empty equipment boxes, in the shadow. People were running to and fro, the post-performance commotion in full. Somewhere, a bottle of champagne popped, and he nodded at Jin asking to scurry a glass aside for him. He stepped away from the course and waved at you.

You watched Yoongi emerge from blue light. Your heart was pumping fresh blood that was about to burst out of your nose because of how tense you'd been. The environment was so new, and you didn't have Minji with you to pacify you. And also this one, lower lip in between his teeth, still high from stage on which he just totally, completely shattered your world just half an hour ago. Your mouth went dry. Drama.

"Hey! How was it?"

Yoongi stood before you, glistening with sweat, his eyes wide open, wolfcut styled to compliment the shape of his face, and so picture-like that he could be a hologram.

"How was it!" you couldn't utter anything, "well, you guys suck, that's what I tell you!"

You slurred on your words trying not to sound too insane. Thankfully, Yoongi saw through you and gave the widest smile. Everything slowed down like in a music video. You felt like a goddamn overgrown princess while he smiled at you. People moved around, the light flickered, sounds drowned you, and he was the only stable thing, smiling so wide that he looked like a child.

"I get it now, I mean, the BTS thing, it's massive".

"Yeah? Did you see when I", he imitated his own gesture when he dropped the microphone at the end of a song you didn't know the title of.

"Yes. Badass. I don't know what else to say. It was really cool. You were all synchronized completely, the whole time. Whoever does your choreography is a lunatic".

He continued with laughter,

"It's Hoseok".

"O-o-oh".

He was still panting a little, mouth slightly open. You wanted out of here, your mind clutching you in iron fixators. Someone called his name, shrieking:

"Yoongii-i-i-iee-eah!"

You hoped he would fuck off and stop torturing you with his agape mouth, with glistening tongue mindlessly slithering inside, but he completely ignored it.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what else to say. I am really impressed".

He nodded like he was hungry for your words.

"Hey, if you wait a little, we..."

His chest heaved with a huge breath he took, and you put your hand up between you:

"I need to go home to Holly. I'm- I don't need to be here, I mean, you probably have your post-show routine".

He gave several small nods and finally closed his mouth. The huge body in front of you, the things it did for two hours straight, it should be dead now, but it wasn't.

"Yeah, of course. I'll pick up Holly in two days, alright?"

You agreed and thanked him for letting you see the show. You bowed to each other like you usually did, only, Yoongi still seemed agitated. As he was leaving, you said,

"Hey, tell everybody I said hi, and that you're great!"

He smiled again.

"I will".

You had to think about it straight. You didn't want freshly used goods and you didn't want anybody whose dick used to be inside your best friend. Simple. Minji meant much more to you. She was your comfort and your shelter, and your happy person. She was the protective shield around you against the world. You picked her up like a... human pet, and now she was yours. Yoongi wouldn't take it away. His stupid low voice wasn't worth it.

You bit your lips clean off and got to the meat by the time he came around. You were looking forward to never seeing him again and recuperating after him. God forbid they get married.

Minji looked happier than ever these days, so you didn't hold your breath. And even though she refused to speak about her affair, you saw that Yoongi did her well; she was only worried about her brother's reaction.

You gathered and packed Holly's things with a small sad spot glaring in your chest. He was a very good dog: sleeping with you at night, helping the quality of your sleep. Walking close to you on the street and always looking at you with these beady eyes. He wiggled his tail so hard that it hit against the furniture, and was playful like a little puppy. Yoongi took good care of him because he was a very happy and naive, carefree dog. It made you respect him a lot. Now it was time for Holly to go home, and you asked yourself, when there's a next tour - and it will come sooner or later - will he call you again?

Yoongi expressed a very similar thought that you had just an hour before he arrived:

"You should get a pet. They help a lot with PTSD".

You nodded gratefully,

"I slept very well with him. I actually feel less tired".

Yoongi raised his face and smiled.

"I can rent him to you from time to time".

He let Holly lick his face so that the dog calms down seeing his dad return. Yoongi wouldn't want to get one on the mouth, so he winced funnily and turned a little away from his long pink tongue.

"Listen, I'm sorry for how I acted after the show".

The eyes opened wide.

"I was honestly flabbergasted and really had no words".

"It's okay. You don't have to say anything. I'm just glad I set the record straight".

"Hmm?"

Yoongi smiled sheepishly.

"Every citizen of Seoul has been to a BTS concert at least once".

You chuckled.

"I wanna go see PSY now".

"I can arrange that", he said simply, and you got seriously impressed. Maybe not then, maybe you'll buy a ticket like people usually did.

"Can you help me get his things downstairs?"

Together, you went out of the flat, leaving Holly inside for now, hands full of his food, towels, blankets, his sleeping pillow, toys and clothes. You weren't even surprised to see Yoongi's Range Rover sitting out of place on your narrow street. The car was just too big and too clean for it. He took Holly's things out of your hands, brushing his fingers against the back of your palm. You felt like you had to ask something, make conversation, but instead, just kept silent.

You kept silent on the way back up in the elevator.

You kept silent when you opened the door to your apartment and let him in behind you. He gave you a moment to say goodbye to Holly.

"I am serious. If you want, I can give you contacts of a good shelter".

"I have always been a cat owner", you mused, "you don't need to walk cats in the morning".

"They have cats, too".

You got to your knees, and Holly, already used to your touch, and your face, put its snout on yours.

"I will miss you, Holly", you uttered and realized it was an actual problem. The withdrawal from having a pet in your apartment, and then not having it, was going to be real. It would get lonelier than before, by a fraction.

"You can always go on a date with him", Yoongi said in his usual low voice. You thought that somehow his English improved over three weeks.

"Or with me", he added.

Your throat got tense. For a second you looked at Yoongi from your knees, then stood up sharply. His mouth formed a straight line as he hid his lips, shy. He didn't blink and looked you straight in the face, making it impossible to pretend you didn't hear it.

"Oh hell no", you snapped. Your breath became hot in your nostrils. Yoongi's eyebrows flew up, eyes so innocent it was nauseating.

"Oh-kay".

His eyes were searching the rest of your face.

"You don't have to be that mean about it".

He finally dropped his gaze but still didn't budge.

"I love Minji too much. She is important to me", you said coldly. The same vigor in your fist that once made you pick up a soju bottle. Yoongi frowned and looked up again, acting amusingly confused.

"Minji? What's she got to do with this?"

"Tsk".

"What?"

"She told me about your relationship".

Now he looked scared.

"We're friends?"

"Sleeping with no strings attached is still a relationship, Yoongi".

If he could, Yoongi would probably detach his eyeballs and throw them at you, that how far his brow went.

"Mwo?" he almost yelled. No, he did yell. His mouth formed a perfect O. So local, perfect. Holly got scared because Yoongi probably never yelled in his presence. You blinked.

"Get out. Don't fuck with me", you demanded, and Yoongi changed his pose, putting one foot in front, so that you wouldn't be able to ram him out of the apartment even if you tried.

"Hold on", he said, his voice so high now that it must hurt his throat.

"Having sex with Minji?"

With his free hand, as he still held Holly's leash, he took out his phone. His sculpted face was slowly turning into expression of a stone. He avoided looking at you directly and only blinked blankly while he waited.

"Minji-ah!" he yelled again and crunched his nose like Minji could see him. This was all a little much for you. You were confused so hard that you barely understood the fast rap-like speech he gave her on the phone. Maybe he was scolding her for cracking their dirty secret to you. Maybe he was asking when he started sleeping with her, because he had no idea. You were hyperventilating a bit.

"Please leave", you said weakly, trying to push him in the shoulder. Yoongi moved your fist with the back of his hand.

"Wait. Wait a second. Minji!"

He turned on the speaker on his phone and looked at you. However, he was speaking with the girl.

"Minji!"

"Oh my god!" the phone nearly got torn apart with her squeal, "What the fuck you thought I was sleeping with Yoongi? I am so sorry, Y/N!"

Your heart dropped. You felt stupid. You were panting.

"I am so dumb! I was so drunk I must have told you it was Yoongi? Did I? Y/N, we never slept! Ew, he is my hyung!"

Yoongi was silently staring at you as if this whole thing was your fault somehow.

"It's Jin!"

Now he suddenly looked at the phone, dumbfounded.

"You're sleeping with Seokjin?"

"Yes, yes", she clarified, "is Y/N there? I can't hear her, is she there?"

"I'm here", you managed to utter, the walls of your throat glued together.

"We were sitting, remember? And Yoongi must have been in my sight, I was trying to say Jin, and I said Yoongi because I looked at him! No! No! He really likes you!"

Yoongi's ears went a little pink. But he was still in shock from hearing what he heard.

"You and Jin?" he repeated, "Does Namjoon know?"

"No", she said timidly. "Anyway, do you hear? He likes you, I even-"

Yoongi's swift finger pressed End and the call went silent. You couldn't look at each other for some time, but he was braver.

"Please leave", you said again, numb. The only sound was him unlocking and opening the door and Holly's steps. You hadn't cut his nails because you didn't know how. Yoongi's stare was still blank as he closed the door behind him, head low, like he was about to bow to you.

Minji nearly went crazy with guilt. You had a video call that afternoon, as soon as she had a free minute at work, and she rattled on about how she nearly messed everything up.

You watched her small hand with delicate nails cover her face. The gem in the ring on her middle finger (her own gift to herself for being the baddest bitch) flickered with white flash. For how knows which time in a row you thought that she seemed like a premium version of a human.

"I am so du-hu-humb!" she whined, "I am never getting drunk again!"

"You are", you retorted. Still didn't know how to feel. The weight of phantom guilt which turned out to be baseless after all, still had a grip on you, and in a twisted way, it was turning you off from Yoongi. You needed a big push now. It still felt really wrong, like his image was smeared.

"You see, he came to be after Hobi's birthday", she explained. The corridor with glass walls was flying behind her as she walked fast, searching for a vacant room to sit down.

"He said, I can't stop thinking about her".

Your heart fluttered somewhere in your stomach, an impulse so strong that you actually felt pain and wiggled, lying on your bed.

"Really? Are you for real?"

"Yes, I had no idea but he really liked you, like almost from the very beginning!" her eyes were huge on your screen. "And I was so stupid because I told him you liked Namjoon..."

You moaned.

"Minji... you pulled it out of me at the party".

"I know, I know, but I had to make sure, because who needs a love triangle! But then I reckoned you just said it because I pressed you. But Yoongi was like, super hesitant then. Then I told him you don't like my brother".

You did like him. Just, not the romantic way. Minji rolled her eyes at herself and continued,

"God, how did I manage to mess this up? Yoongi is a naturally hesitant person, you know. He takes time to make decisions. I don't wanna say he's slow or anything... but he did take six months to make a move on you, you see".

"Why did you tell me you were having sex with him..." you muttered. Minji gasped in suffering, theatrically. You suddenly thought that it's pretty similar to how Hoseok gasped sometimes, with a flare of overplaying it.

"I was so drunk... literally, I was pointing at Jin. And you were looking at Yoongi. I think I barely heard you, I thought you saw where I was pointing!"

You buried your face into the blanket and stopped breathing. You were, all three of you, in your thirties. How embarrassing: fools all round. No, not Yoongi. He was completely innocent in this. Did nothing wrong, was perfectly adequate and comfortable to be around. And he paid the most, for the both of you. You lifted your face, one eye wrinkled by the force you were pressing it into the bed. Minji was tensely looking into the camera at you.

"Well?"

"Well what?"

"Do you like him? He was trying so hard".

"I kicked him out, Minji".

She shook her head violently.

"Just drop him a text".

You chewed your lips hard, realized: there's no need to lie to yourself anymore, you can cautiously step out of this cage.

"I really really like him. He is so handsome, Minji. I was feeling so fucking guilty for liking him, because I thought you're DATING!" you yelled the last part, and Minji made the most adorable empathizing face.

"I am sorry... but that's awesome though, right?"

"Minji, is that why I was the dogsitter?" it suddenly dawned on you.

"Well, yes".

"Are you even allergic to dogs?"

"...no".

You turned around onto your back. The sun was filling the bedroom, empty without Holly's click-clack steps and quiet whining. The boy had a habit to hum under his breath like his dad. It was the first dog that liked to sing, that you've ever seen.

"You know what, I won't get further into this", Minji decided, "I feel like I've done enough. He is so angry with me. You're adults, work it out. Text him. I promise he is great".

You noticed that much. Yoongi knew how to keep his distance while teasing himself to you carefully. Knew his way around words, and even the way he used English, so focused on avoiding mistakes, never giving himself a break with the phonetics of it, was very appealing to you. You had a feeling he didn't just ask about the books you liked, to say something. That he really memorized stuff about you, even if he wasn't sure he'd need it. He almost seemed too good to be true.

You lay on your bed, body still unused to not having Holly in your hands. Miraculous how quickly you adjust to having a pet. Maybe you'll get to see him more and cuddle him again.

You spent your Sunday in thinking, and would've spent the whole night before a working week pondering how you can apologize to Yoongi without being needy, or if he will even want to talk to you. But in the evening, your phone screen lit up with a message which knocked the breath out of you. So, here we are, Y/N, you thought to yourself, huh. No drama, huh. That's how we react now to messages from him.

You tried to look at yourself from a perspective. He is an idol, someone you swore to never get involved with, even hypothetically. You were still sure the amount of headache this connection will entail will come back to bite you. You had no idea about the depth of trouble. With that, you took your phone.

I'm sorry I like you

It took away a lot of pride to tell him that he didn't have to apologize; your selflessness towards people usually manifested in acts of service, like saving their life or buying them a coffee; but you weren't good with words. So, when you texted him that phrase, you felt like you were growing, and actually had to make the choice to be serious about it. As long as he was. You decided to go on a date. You made a confession: I don't really like coffee. I'm more of a bubble-tea person. Yoongi took it well, like everything else.

I know a place I will pick you up from work on Tuesday, right?

I'm sorry if I sound upset, but I really want to know why jikookers don’t organize anything for Jimin and Jungkook together. I’ve seen so many projects from pjms and jjks but nothing for jikook as a duo. Honestly, it’s not that hard to put together some money and do something for them as a pair… there are so many shippers or supporters of jikook, but when it comes to important things, they seem to disappear. It would be so nice to have a poster or something for jikook when they finish their military service, but instead..nothing. I’m just disappointed, if I’m being honest. (Not to mention the fact that army don’t do anything for BTS, but they’re the first to complain about solos)

Do you have any thoughts about how Jimin probably hasn’t been to the Hybe building since enlistment. I try not to get my hopes up but I really can’t see him renewing his solo contract after 2024. Not after everything they’ve done to him

Ok I usually try to keep it objective with these type of theories because there are many things we don't know about or can know for sure. But today I feel like maybe discussing it and making some assumptions.

First and foremost this is just me talking, remember to keep your expectations level headed! Ok, yeah I actually talked about this with some other pjms because it is very interesting. And many people noticed it too. Now, it could be that JM is just very focused on his military stuff, and wanted to completely separate from his idol life these past months. But it's still very interesting because he's made time to do some things on his leave days and none of them involve his company. And it makes me remember how he also recorded Face away from Hybe, or how his trophies are now in his dad's cafe. He seems to show up only when he absolutely needs to, which means he's not attached to it that much. Maybe he sees it just as a workplace, where he has to go to whenever he has schedules and responsibilities, but I don't think it's a place where he finds inspiration, or comfort, not even to remind him of what he has achieved considering he doesn't even have a studio there and he probably asked for his trophies to be relocated with his dad. All the members (except Th but I'm no sure) have visited, gone to the rehearsal rooms, taken photos, talked to the staff, practiced dancing, and he's just not there at all. So it could be him trying to take his military life very very seriously, or he just doesn't have any reason or upcoming plan to be there. Whatever it is, the fact that it's not a priority for him is very telling on how his relationship with the company is.

And what if I say that when the group decided to stop their activities, JM just cut ties and pretty much distanced himself from everyone and everything 😭. I think BTS was also some kind of glue for him, he endured many things for the sake of the group and the fans, and since that isn't a priority anymore, it's almost like he's had to reevaluate what he's going to do moving forward. Because there's no point in staying in that same place (figuratively and literally speaking) anymore. And his first instinct was to work with his 3 producers in Pdogg's house, in a different environment. That speaks volumes to me. The same way he doesn't visit it now that he's enlisted.

(Also I remembered something that rubbed me the wrong way about their latest CEO appointment, but it might be just my mind overthinking so idk)

Yes, they all do this and I agree that it’s unfair to put this on one member alone. Taking your ask to go on a rant.

I think in light of Ays, we can conclude a certain creative aspect when it comes to what we see and what the members talk about. I still think there’s a lot of realness present as well, but conversational topics are definitely brought up.. and by Jm’s ‘I’m just trying to say some lines for the show’ in response to Tae’s denial of something being the first time.. we can conclude that some things are said because of a reason. Wether that’s to get across a certain narrative or just because they think army likes to hear it probably depends on which moment we talk about. It’s naive to have seen Ays and the behind the scenes and still think we see Jm, Jk and Tae be natural and organic.

It’s probably a hard truth to come to terms with, though I think Tkkrs have long since accepted this. For us the ITS talk was a clear giveaway.. and yes, we noticed because we do have reason to look beyond. If anything Tkkrs are standing on an island in fandom because we do not accept everything we hear and see to be truth. Most of fandom wants to believe they see members be themselves and honest, another subset of fandom has a vested interest in thinking the company actually feeds them proof of their ship. If people were to set aside their wishes though, and look at how the entertainment business (of which BTS are a definite part of) works, they would find good reason to believe that BTS is not the exception to the rule and that they too have content in mind and create, practice, and do-over content they find is not interesting enough.

BTS are entertainers first. And secondly they protect their privacy. Do we really think all Jk and Jm and Tae had to talk about is food? Do we really think their lives so bland that they had to insert minute on minute of footage of them eating… not once or twice, but basically three times per episode? Ofcourse not, these men have plenty to do and talk about when they’re together, they just don’t want to share it with us.. and neither should they.

Some of you act as if we’re the crazy ones, or the disrespectful ones for saying members aren’t always truthful or if something isn’t organic. But in truth, outside of fandom spaces.. it isn’t actually an insult to say that entertainers are creating content. They are doing their jobs.

Having said all that, the thing that actually drew me into fandom deeper is that I felt so much realness and genuineness in BTS. I don’t feel it’s that hard to separate the fake from the real at all. They do show us so much of themselves just by interacting and reacting. Their care for each other is real, the way they banter, argue, discuss, etc is real. I suspect for some the feeling of having to question if what they see is real is leaving them in uncharted territory. I can definitely see how for some parts of fandom this is more of an issue (I mean, if you’re hellbent on Jk and Jm being together than obviously you’re going to be confused a lot). Personally though, I’ve always been able to understand BTS as a group inside the context of them being entertainers while still seeing them as genuine people.

I do not think Romain gives a single fuck about teams that are not his. He plays favorites, is certain of his own genius, and shields people like Nik S. I continue to think that long term, IAMO would benefit from a separation from IAM - and it’s primarily because of Romain. Anyway, his opinions suck and those of us here during the comeback remember how sour he was towards VM the whole time, which is another (admittedly petty) reason to dislike him.

i bet watching Romain in the context of P/C vs VM in the comeback was different. that kind of pressure and stress came between good friends like Charlie and Scott, so it must have been polite but very cool if not cold at times with P/C and Romain lol

kind of went off a little bit yesterday so i'm going to play devil's advocate instead, for me, more than you - except for Romain being the first line of support for Sorensen in the kiss and cry along with Steffany Hanlen. that just sucks.

but the rest, if he was sour, it clearly didn't hurt VM, and Scott seems to be on fine terms with him now

i was snarky about this, but what would playing favorites mean? does he unfairly promote some teams over others? i'm not sure he does? it's not wrong to be closer to some or that top teams require more attention. Lilah and Lewis and LaLa probably do need coaches to match the intensity of the level they're flying at, the same way Scott and Madi carve out more time to accompany CPom than their younger teams - are they playing favorites, or are they giving them the level of support they need?

being certain of his own genius - he's skilled at what he does and very successful. self doubt and insecurity lead people to self sabotage, so as long as someone's head isn't so big they can't self reflect, maybe a lot of people would benefit from being more sure of themselves? he also doesn't seem unbalanced - he has a lovely family, lots of friends, he shows up to things like Marjo's rink dedication

about IAMO splitting off - so much of whether this is good or not depends on Madi and Adrian, whether they stay or go. without them, i don't know what Scott does. and it's hard to know what kind of support bts the Montreal school is lending them, too. like CPom haven't set a foot wrong in the last couple seasons - packaging is MF's strong suit - having her eye on things is probably helping them, as well as having the Montreal coaches's feedback on programming, competitions, training. and is IAMO a financially separate and independent entity, or does the mother ship provide support, work or stability in some way. Scott still looks to Patrice at the boards in this way that says he's glad for the input and support. he likes to be team captain, he said, but i'm not sure he likes to stand on his own 🤔

I actually find this hilarious. Because the viewing experience will probably stay the same for me. I'm already tolerating one dumbass, so what difference does another one make? But seeing V leech his way into the show is so funny. His attention seeking is so obvious I can't believe he was shameless enough to do it. Like his other two reality shows weren't enough for him he had to jump on this one too 😭 It's not like either JK or Jimin seem thrilled to include him either since they didn't think of him when they started the show in NY nor did they invite him back to go to the third stint in Japan 😭 Also fun fact that he's doing this when nobody from BTS cared enough to go onto any of his reality shows too.

Armys will never talk about any of this in the open but Tae's antics are so transparent nowadays I can sense his popularity declining with every ill conceived gimmick he tries. And it does seem like he will try anything except making good music. Sad

That’s the thing… I am not having a viewing experience because I am not watching it lmao. But Jimin is there, and I am bound to stumble on clips and shady comments here and there, so nothing better than come here and complain.

Making value judgements is not my style because I don’t know them and certainly I don’t care about their dynamics anymore (I used to, but that interest is dead already. Yes, even with Pjms dearest such as Jihope, Minimoni or JiminJin-I don’t have a clue how is their paring called. They all can go to hell for all I care).

What I DO find fascinating is fandom dynamics and rhetoric, and this certain example is prime to explore it. Good for him, so eager to participate and be part of something where he wasn’t even invited nor part of since the beginning, but what I find extremely interesting is the reaction to it. Nothing more delightful than watching armys making the whole thing about vminkook uwu, but they are not at fault because it’s the fandom, so. It’s me, I am the problem. I want to burn everything sometimes, yes.

And even though I am no longer part of the group fandom, I am very very petty and resentful, and I will never get rid of the revolting emotions every time those two come close to Jimin because we know how a large portion of people talk about him.

Anyways, the part where he had the right to do his own thing with TWO different shows and no one gaf, but it wasn’t enough, is very funny. We admire a hardworking entertainer. Certainly not very fond about working on his own music, but very willing to crash during a work trip on a show that wasn’t about him. I wonder why they didn’t demand a Taekook episode alone? Inspiring.

All of this to say, I wish member #1 was dragged to the mud for leeching on a show that he was never meant to be in, and I wish Jikookeres weren’t so soft about Tete literally taking advantage of Jimin and the other member brand, because I swear JM will never be granted the courtesy, and that is what enrages me. I wish PJMs dragged the hell out of the member #2 which is served on a silver platter by his own parasitic fans who can’t shut up about him being a selfish prick and a socially inept.

But it is better this way. Focusing on Muse who is still very recent. Seizing our opportunities to improve and leave the asylum talk to the ones who belong there.

Well I ended up watching the concert movie in the middle of the night like some kind of lunatic (I haven't had a real sleep schedule since i was like 14) and wrote down a few of my favourite moments. They're not that interesting or original so i'll put them under a cut, but I wanted to keep a few of my thoughts on this blog <3 And you can also read this if you're debating whether you want to rent the video or not, maybe it'll help you make your choice. (it does contain "spoilers" though, if you can even call it that)

- JURE MAČEK!!!!!!!!! Holy shit I hadn't realised how starved I was for Jure content, having so many shots on him was the highlight of the show for me I love this funky little drummer!! Back shot and side shot and seeing his little face!!!! 🩵🩵🩵🩵

- I love the trumpet player! The trombone and saxophone players as well of course but trumpet man you are the star to me. The 3 guest musicians were such a cool addition to the show, it was a good way to make this concert special, and it was so cool to incorporate them not only in SSOL but also in ASTP and Ona. (Also, tangent sorry, but I keep saying "brass ona" because it's fun to say and I'll probably keep saying it but. I have a confession to make. Saxophone is not a brass instrument lol it's a woodwind. Anyway)

- Kris' transition from Bele sanje to Plastika. I know we've already talked about this but it's so good. And Jan vibing to it!!! Love it

- The melodrama of Bojan's performance of Plastika. This man needs to do The Most at all times or he'll explode. 10/10 please keep doing this mr Cvjetićanin

- One of my favourite things is when Kris stretches his arms out and he looks 4 meters tall. I love you giraffe man

- Sweatyyyy (look, i didn't say my thoughts were going to be profound)

- Every time Jan MARCHES down that catwalk I swoon a little bit, ngl

- The bts sections are interesting and pretty well incorporated, I enjoyed them a lot. If I had to say one negative thing about the movie it's that the subtitles are pretty inconsistent, the same way they were sometimes in the carpe diem and wwttb vlogs. Sometimes there are lines missing and the quality of the translation seems a bit uneven. (and apparently they were not added immediately when the video became available, but I rented it only later, so I didn't see that). Still, I was glad they added these bts sections, we got to see the prep, the crew and their roles (I'm always very interested in that), fan interviews and even a tiny bit about Jan's green guitar.

- Bojan melodrama part 2: floor edition

- the Padam montage was pretty cool, but I found it a little bit funny that they mixed footage of actual difficult moments (like them getting sick, etc.) with "joke" difficult moments? (Like "fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, I'm leaving this band"). But anyway, the way they used the screen during the show was pretty smart throughout, I thought.

- Mark Pirc' passion for black and white video needs to be studied

- Omamljeno telo made me want to be there SO BAD, it looked like so much fun. When they all (well, except for Jure) come on the catwalk together!!! <3

- Bojan's little bow to let Nace, Kris and Jan pass on the catwalk. silly and cute

- Martin hug. Need I say more

- So many moments where Jan and Kris' guitars compliment each other so well. I love when you can really hear their two melodies intertwine together. And actually properly seeing that is so cool.

- Nace's energy in Tokio. I mean his energy is great the whole time but during Tokio he gets Silly and it's very fun to watch

- Novi Val was so emotional <3

- it was a lovely idea to include a bit of footage from their vacation during the credits. Very cute. And saying that they missed Bojan and Bojan missed them 😭

I'm sure I would have had more to say but this is already unnecessarily long and I sort of forgot to write things down towards the end, so I'll stop there. But I really enjoyed the concert movie, I'm very glad to have watched it (would love to rewatch it at a normal human hour). I'm still holding out a tiny sliver of hope that it will be available to buy and permanently own someday, but in the meantime it was a very well-spent 8€ (well, 7.45 chf).

I’m gonna rant for a second so I’m like really sorry if this comes across as odd or smth BUT IM SO GENUINELY LIKE VIBRATING IN MY SEAT.

The way you put your words and thoughts together is so incredibly digestible, I’ve always loved wordy and long analysis and essays but because of my neurodivergence it is sometimes hard to keep attention on what I’m reading if the story or subject isn’t captivating to me. Which is something I genuinely worried about, I really wanted to read this analysis because I’ve been waiting for it for so long, but because of the fandom drama and stuff personally it’s been really hard for me to get really into Stranger Things media, wether it be fics or BTS pics or anything like that

That being said, this is the most excited I’ve felt about Stranger Things in so long, and I mean that so literally. I'm really really glad my writing is digestible and engaging. That's something I really worry about when I'm writing longer analyses, because honestly sometimes even I get a little lost when I'm mapping out all the webby connections the writers pack into ST/TFS.

I'm exactly the same, though, when it comes to reading about stuff I'm not interested in: it's like pulling teeth 😭 So it's a really really huge compliment to hear that my work made you excited about the source material again!! I'm just :> waowwwwww lsdkjfdslk <3

The fandom drama is such a turn-off, but I let the spite fuel my love for the source material that much more. just wondering whats ur personal thoughts on the statement of bts paved the way?

i do think they aided other groups but i do not think they paved the entire way there for them most of it was based entirely on western validation and acceptance in foreign countries. with social media already on the rise years before bts debuted and at the time they had to really show something different when they went to the states only some were interested in the group and they didnt have tiktok then but they do now so it just depended on what they had around them to aid them.

just like we dont claim that the beatles paved the way for one direction just that one direction were born when they were born and auditioned when they auditioned like bts really. the process of auditioning is what got them there imho if they hadnt theyd have not been known. or they mightve been trainees at another agency before then becoming bts. i also think for newjeans they seem to be acting recklessly as tho they can cope on their own but hybe paved the way for newjeans and imho newjeans should show more respect for their staffs and employers. if it werent for hybe they wouldnt be known in fact theyd already be oldjeans long after debut due to the way they conduct their business or lack thereof. it seems to be mainly an ego thing u cant be a big named pop star without xyz thing occuring in advance so they have to have already had their eyes set on being pop stars long before paving the way, my arse.

i dont really get their fans need to shove that statement on every social page there is, when theres more than one factor that counted towards the success of such group and dare i say these groups are also likely premeditated in advance so they know whos in it before its actually filmed. is it just coincidence that a lot of idols even bts members come from wealthier background than other members? it almost must feel like a hobby to them. its like a rich kids playground over there.

Prefacing this by saying I’m not an Army but I’m not a BTS anti. I can respect them as artists and enjoy watching their content or casually listening to a few songs, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. I’m more neutral on them, even if I know a lot about them.

I can admit that a lot of things BTS did other groups drew inspiration from, or they popularized things. But so did BigBang, specifically GD. They had a lot of impact, as one of the most popular KPOP acts. And they went global.

But there in lies the basis of this. They went global. BTS’s songs that are extremely widely known on a global scale are, for the most part (I may get hate for this) arguably my least favorite songs on their discography. They’re not bad (Even if I’ll sob if I hear butter one more time.) but they’re not exactly terribly unique or with deep meanings. They’re the songs with a majority or an entirety of English lyrics and a cookie cutter pop concept.

They’re not the songs with deep meanings or lyrics or artistic presence, really. I can admit for me what put me off KPOP for so long WAS this image of BTS we have in the west. Sure Run was performed sometimes by them in the US, but mostly what you’re exposed to are things like butter. Played over and over and over with that same pop persona with not much deeper than that. That and dynamite.

Dynamite and Butter are what the west was exposed to the most. Those songs are more just…Pop than K-Pop, save them coming from pop artists. There’s no Korean. No Korean influences other than the minds behind it. So sure, it’s K-Pop, but it’s mostly just pop.

It also is probably the least BTS sounding thing ever, at least in my eyes. It doesn’t have their unique flair and sound except for their voices, nor the messages they usually spread and input.

And sure they got many people in the west into KPOP. But they put just as many off it. Because it didn’t have a unique sound that set it apart.

And I repeat, this isn’t to bash or hate on BTS. I like most of their songs I hear save the ones that are, ironically, pushed the most in the west. Except maybe Run BTS.

But I wouldn’t necessarily say BTS paved the way. They didn’t make the genre. They didn’t expand on the genre massively in terms of sound, even though they have their own unique sound. They weren’t even first gen.

Sure, they started trends. They popularized it in another country. But I feel that’s inherently…Flawed. To think that ‘paving the way’ just means you brought things to the American audience, because of course every thing from another country needs American validation to be good.

Now, were they a major player in a lot of things? Yes. Because globalization is still…Good. They put Korean acts on the map and brought them in front of more people.

But to say they paved the way for that? They might’ve paved the way for them to be more known in the west, but in a broader sense they technically didn’t.

That title goes to artists that expanded on the KPOP sound or started it. It’s like DJ Kool Herc paved the way for Hip-Hop. Not 2Pac or Snoop. Did they help make it more popular? Yes. Were they part of a golden age for it? Yes. But at the end of the day, they didn’t pave the way.

And don’t even get me started on NewJeans and Hybe, we’ll be here all day.

blood sweat and tears: ke ming kai, li sheng jun and sheng qi

way too hard song choice. I get why so many trainees would choose a bts song, but why this song? please someone point me towards a cover of bs &t that had the same aura as the original, bc at this point i'm convinced it is uncoverable. the pitch of it, too, is so dangerous in the way that if you don't get the feel of that intro right, you're lost immediately...

breathe: syo and ryou kaito

don't like syo's style of singing. japanese vocal style that will need to go. otherwise, I'm actually pretty neutral about it.

darari: kim seong ju

not him going platinum seller with the trainees lmao. I mean, if anything, it proved the guiders right in giving him one star

crazy form: kim seon jae, han jeong woo and choi jun ho

obviously have been trained. something about the intro was way off, idk if it was the pitch or if it was just done monotonously but it got my sibling and me real scared. not necessary though! the rest of it was pretty great!

black suit: shao zi heng

WOW. he's really good, stable, good pronunciation and mindset, BEAUTIFUL too. spoilers include that he's in my top9 right now. I got real shady vibes at first, about the level of humbled he was giving ... felt like an act for a minute there, but it was probably just the nerves!

the babies did so great... the AURA in this performance was insane. the synchronized choreo at the start?? oh, these are idols, is what you're telling me

I did not enjoy this. audition performances need to showcase skill and potential. if part of your potential is showmanship, then great. if you utilize showmanship purely to draw attention, then there was no potential shown. I first met you through a survival show, and I was very thankful for it then. seeing as you didn't debut with the unit, I was also glad to see you in px101. but they messed you over, put something in front of you that was the realization of your dream, only for it to be taken away...

the fact that trainees were like "he was in X1!" damn near put me out. Nan is brilliant, as always.

I'd love to hear all about bts content-- did Nan write this after her fics? When and why did she get contacted to write? Are there any interviews I can read up on? Any and all information will be greedily swallowed whole.

Loved how this filled-in the episodes-- tv or movie novelizations are a beloved niche of mine.

Nan definitely understood Cathy better than I did (and do); and I think her point (through Vincent's POV) is too true-- that Cathy is drawn to and feels alive in the danger without realizing, like she had been drawn to her abusive ex without first sorting her fearfully contradictory emotions. It's unhealthy, it's a feedback loop for Vincent, and both of their situations are probably going to get worse before it gets better. And, like you say, Cathy is naive and doesn't intend to harm; but there's also that willfully naive or obstinately "I can do this" quality to her that does not bend to circumstance. There is only one route to be done, always. Now that I think about it, she's very like Father: neither like to change their views on matters, both have "set in their ways" habits, and both collapse rather quickly when their viewpoint of the world is shattered or challenged. Or, if they rise to the challenge, it is because they have another viewpoint as a backup (i.e. Cathy's "you always told me to face my fears!" on the tail end of a failure.) I don't have a moment where I heavily dislike or am irritated by her other than the moments where the emotions that she prizes so strongly get in the way of common sense or logic. She's come a long way, and will go longer I'm sure. (S1 finale made me really respect her and look forward to those possibilities. However, I always remind myself that all roads lead to Rome.)

Jacob and John, Paracelsus and Father. Seamless, gorgeous, beautifully constructed. Anna and Grace and Devin and little Vincent... all of their characters were exceptional. The community's construction, expanding borders, rules, governances, operations, interpersonal dynamics: all exquisite. John's descent and Anna's end and Vincent's torture and Devin's love and speech (I had a kid in my life give a Devin speech once-- excellently written, Nan) and Father saving and learning to love his new son and the community closing ranks around Vincent for more complex and complicated reasons and why John stayed and why he finally left....

I'm almost speechless at the quality of this book. I could not put it down and read it all the way through (good thing I trusted Nan's excellence and planned for that to happen going in.)

It did clarify my confusion in Nan's other fic: Vincent thinks the same "I must separate from" thoughts; but, aside from the Pilot and the finale episode, I can't recall if that is an established pattern of behavior in S1. He's had many conversations of how much Catherine struggles (and himself); but never about permanently severing their tie or communication. I don't think, anyway. (Correct me if I'm wrong!) I do agree it is Vincent's nature. My only wonder is if it is to this degree. And if I am wrong, then that tells me I either missed something HUGE in S1 or there's a monster of character writing to face in S2 and S3; and I can't wait to turn the corner and find it.

Also: Nan filtering Vincent's mind through Paracelsus's drug and Catherine's woozy daydreams of Dris and Eurydice and all of the mythologies put together was so brilliantly done that I'm of two minds: that that was the original intention to be drawn, or that it was a slight intention that Nan magnified. Either way, what excellent, excellent writing.

I am so satisfied and pleased and content and abuzz with this story and this show these characters that I might fill in some S1 gaps (if you think I've missed any, point them out!), go over some passages of Nan's work, and watch it all jenga higher and higher as it builds towards S3 and "S4".

A little background: Nan wrote and published the AWTN series between 1991-1992 and it was, I believe, the first BATB fanfic she'd written. Then at some point in 1991 she was commissioned by Cinemaker Press, who had the license to publish BATB fiction, with the approval of Republic Pictures (which owned the rights to the show), to write a novelization of the S2 ending trilogy, which she titled Beyond Words, Beyond Silence. A year after that was published, she was approached to write a second novelization and chose to tackle The Alchemist and To Reign in Hell and create the backstory of the tunnel community.

I never asked Nan specifically why she was approached, but I have to assume that someone at Cinemaker read at least some of AWTN. And Nan was already a fairly well known sci-fi/fantasy writer with several professionally published works under her belt. So who better to commission, right?

Sadly, Cinemaker Press lost their publishing license and folded while in the midst of prepping Bright Spirit Descending for publication. So Nan eventually published it herself as a fanzine. There are still copies of Beyond Words, Beyond Silence floating around (I have one myself) but any for sale are stupidly expensive. Last I looked, the price was $159. Oops, just looked on Amazon and now it's closer to $180. Luckily for fans of Nan, she continued to make both novels available for download and at no cost up until her death, and still to this day.

As far as interviews, there's little to nothing on the web. Nan had very little desire for self-promotion. She was much more interested in mentoring and promoting other writers and artists in the fandom and doing her part to keep the dream alive after the show was canceled. If you do a deep dive on the links to her BATB fanfic there, you'll discover that her AWTN series was considered one of the most controversial zines in the fandom and not very well received by Classic fans (those who deny anything that happened after the S2 finale and insist Cathy didn't die). I'm afraid that by introducing you to Nan's work and the show with AWTN, I've brought you into a very small subset of the fandom that loved all three seasons and the idea of Diana as the perfect romantic partner for Vincent post S3. It's really quite amazing, if you venture into reading other 4th Season writers, that we seemed to have acquired a hive mind when it came to how we saw Diana and what would likely be Vincent's fascination with her.

On to other things...

Your last line here is an understatement. S2 is a rollercoaster ride, S3 even more so. But before I scare you, both seasons are filled with lovely stories and individual moments as well.

Yes! You can't see it, but I'm standing up and applauding. I love how easily you're picking up all these little nuances that even some longtime fans have never noticed or given much thought to. I love that. ☺️

It's there, but not obvious. I think any fan who gets to know Vincent (through repeated watches) in all his aspects and personality quirks, gets to the point where they just know that his thinking is when it came to Cathy, specifically, and the tunnel community at large. He is always aware of his otherness, his aloneness, and the danger he poses to the people he loves because of that. There are more hints and confirmations of this mindset in S2.

Wasn't the backstory of the tunnel community wonderful? It was my favorite part of the book, and Nan handled it masterfully. ❤️
