Okaaaayyyy, so I write fanfiction, but this is my first The owl house fic- just gonna test to see if I should continue-
Sweet Child of Mine
(Pt1???) (Willow X Hunter) (The owl house)
A lot had happened in the past four years. Belos, the collector, Belos again. It had all been one giant headache paired with occasional adrenaline rushes. However, this was the end. Hopefully. There were just some final insurance steps that needed to be put into place.
Hunter was entrusted with sweeping through the old castle. Hunter knew most of the secrets, and the things he didn’t know, he knew where to find. His girlfriend, Willow was with him, hopefully just for emotional support. Then again, you never knew what security might be embedded in the castle, and Willow was far more capable than Hunter himself, but that was already given knowledge.
“It’s going to be alright.” Willow said, already being proactive about comforting Hunter, firmly holding his hand. She knew how hard this was for him, but if anyone could ensure the safety of the boiling isles from whatever lurked in the castle, it was Hunter.
There were some places that everyone on the isles knew about, like the throne room, or the coven relics that had been up on display. There were lesser known rooms, like the coven-head headquarters, or military bases. Then, there were rooms that Hunter knew of, but had never been in.
Belos was insanity incarnate. Hunter could never justify his reasoning, and had no intentions of looking for any. Unfortunately, Hunter had to look into his eyes, to think of what could be a danger. Slowly, he had skimmed through all the hidden sectors of the castle, and last up was Belos’s lab.
Hunter had been only four when he had first found out about the laboratory. He had been following around his former mentor, playing coven scout spies, which was a favorite game of his, up until the incident. Belos seemed to be complacent in the game, never joining in, nor actively discouraging it, til Hunter had somehow caught him opening up a secret door.
It had been a triumph of his, in the moment. Catching his uncle doing something he had never seen before. He had waited for Belos to turn around so he could show off his skills.
Black goo.
Slice.
Blood.
Hunter had been left cradling his wound on his face.
“Real spies don’t gloat about their newfound knowledge.” Belos had said coldly. “Do not” he started, the ‘t’ holding more an added punch, “follow me in here. Ever.”
The act was so cemented in Hunter's mind that he knew that that was the place where if Belos had any more secrets, it would be there.
He led Willow to the little notch on the side of the wall in a particular hallway. Flashes of his trauma flitting in and out of his brain, like stray embers on the fire dumpster that was his childhood. He pushed past it, in order to fulfill his mission.
Once the door was open, he stood at the entrance for a second. “So this was Belos’s lab.” he said, his heart beating fast. “I’ve only been here once- not /in/ here, but…”
Willow reached over and held Hunter’s hand. “Do you want to head back?” She asked. “Now that we know where it is, we don’t need to-” Her eyes grew wide as she saw a pod of sorts. It had a metal exterior, and was filled with liquid, but more importantly, an infant inside. There was a screen next to it that said “ready for extraction”.
Hunter was confused at first, but then followed her line of sight. There was so much in this dang workshop that it was hard to see that pod, but when he did, he froze. “He was already planning on replacing me.” He said, and went up to the glass to get a better look.
He accidentally pressed the button and the glass opened, the liquid and baby tumbling out. “Shit-” Hunter cursed, and caught the child. The baby grimwalker started to immediately cry as air hit his lungs.
“Language!” Willow chastised, but went over to find a blanket. “Here you go.” She said softly, and looked over at the child.
“Sorry, I just didn’t want to drop him.” Hunter replied. He took the blanket and swaddled the child- or at least as best as he could. He was no parent, but he already immediately felt a connection to this child. He was like him, made for a purpose, and given the chance to reject said purpose, if just given the love needed to thrive.
“I didn’t know you looked so cute as a baby.” Willow tried to tease, not knowing what was going through her boyfriend’s head, but she could tell that he looked overwhelmed.
Hunter looked down at the child in his arms. His heart bled for him. “Lets go, now.” He said, rushing over to the underground tunnels of the castle.
Willow was shocked, rushing after the grimwalkers. “Wait- Hunter?! What are you doing?” She asked, catching up to the scrawny teen’s pace.
“The moment anyone finds out about the baby, they’re going to take him away.” Hunter explained. “I need to protect him from that.”
Willow grew quiet, thinking it over as he jogged alongside Hunter in the castle’s dark underbelly.
“You think I’m crazy, don’t you?” Hunter said softly.
“No, maybe a little impulsive, but that’s pretty normal by Hunter standards.” Willow said with a soft smile.
And so that’s how Hunter Noceda became a father.
(To be continued???)

I love Hunter's ominous "BWAAA" audio cue he has in s2. It's loud and in your face when you see him the first times, as the Golden Guard, and makes you think, "oh no! villain!" I only realized this recently, but it actually ends up being used in the music itself.
It continues being used throughout the episodes-
Escaping Expulstion
Hunting Palisman (Notably, it only starts when he's actually being menacing, not when he's just whistling or being blasted off his ship.)
Until we get to Eclipse Lake, where it's barely used at all. Because he's imprisoned and unmasked the whole time. The only time it's actually used is when he betrays Amity, because he holds some semblance of power. Contrast that to the fight, where Hunter's cue isn't used at all- he's got no intimidation factor, he's clearly desperate.
As far as I can tell, it's entirely absent in Any Sport in a Storm, which is great, as he's so absolutely pathetic the entire episode, it's great. Au contraire, it's used when he reveals he tricked them, the only time he DOES hold real power.
In Hollow Mind, it's used when he blames Luz for trapping them. It's there again when he approaches the CATTs, because he's hunting down criminals! He's being scary! It's gone after Luz confronts him, because it's from Luz's perspective, and she knows him. It's gone for the rest of the episode.
I don't think it's ever there in Labrynth Runners either, as he's entirely without power in the situation. He's scared out of his mind.
And in Clouds on the Horizon, it's back! But only when you first see him, where he's smirking like an idiot and trying once again to act like he's NOT scared out of his mind. It's insanely comedic, because we all know he's just had two panic attacks within days of each other. He's perhaps the opposite of scary.
And then, it's gone. Forever, I think. From then on, he stops pretending. He's just a dorky kid now, and he's terrified. He's given up on pretending he's not. That music cue was for the Golden Guard. This is Hunter.
It's great musical storytelling! We can HEAR his character arc. We listen to how he changes, his missteps, his failures. It's always fun to hear.
Side note, when Viney goes "I had an opening for one" in ASIAS, the music does the whole violin strike cue, then immediately cuts back to the sentimental music. It's great timing.

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT OI OI OI HOLD UP A SWEET FUCKING HOT POCKET SECOND. King’s father’s whole “oh Belos is just evil and has always been ig” shtick. Isn’t that logic the same as BELOS’S?!! That’s why he does everything? Cause he thinks witches and demons are the creations of Satan (or something like that ig who needs properly explained motivations in fiction anyway)? And that by their mere existences witches and demons cause misery and suffering? And that the only way humanity can be safe and freed from their potential influence is through all their collective deaths?!! DANA AND CO YOU HAVE TO BE SHITTING ME-

It's actually kinda sexy of Caleb & Evelyn to haunt the narrative so thoroughly while never having any speaking lines or even appearing on screen outside of 400yr old repressed memories, delusions, and/or hyped up folklore
We don't even know for sure if Evelyn was a Clawthorne, or what she looked like, or how the fight between Caleb and Philip went down, or Caleb's reasons for leaving without Philip, or what their half witch half human baby looked like, or how long after Caleb left before Philip found him again, or what Evelyn did when she discovered her dead lover's grave was robbed, or how quickly after killing Caleb did Philip decide "I can make a new Caleb that's Better™"
We have scraps to give us pretty good ideas for most of these, but nope they really just haunt with no reward. Like yeah babes give us nothing!

How to describe all toh characters in a nutshell:
Good guys: talented, smart, always right, always win, basically looks either as a pretty human or a cute pet
Bad guys: not talented, stupid, always wrong, always lose, basically has flaws in appearance or even look like a monster

Decided to do a style meme thing because it looked like fun. Shoutout to @phoenix-before-the-flame for prompting me to draw the grown-up golden child. My dear son~
(Drawing in the OG style was so bizarre I had to use a non-pressure-sensitive round brush; I never use those. It was whack.)

Brother's Keeper Design Fun Facts that I Wrote on a Very Long Plane Flight to Occupy Myself, and Ignore the Baby Crying Behind Me and the Trail Mix I Spilled into my Luggage (and then Rewrote Later When I was Actually Coherent): a Saga
Hello, ppl who expressed interest in this, thank u for giving me something to do! I hope u find something interesting in me rambling. I like thinking about design maybe a little too much. Here goes:
Fun Fact! In this au Caleb essentially has three personas and now that I'm putting words to it, I realize that this is central to how i draw things because most everything I design to add him into the story is defined by one or more of them. It goes like this:
PERSONA 1: Mad Lord Metanoy
His public image: the tragic brother of the emperor, crippled and driven to insanity by wild magic and presented to the public as an example. This is what Belos WANTS everyone to see, and so it's the most prevalent and is a weird mix of pompous (bc he's an important public figure and the emperor's brother) and pitiful (bc his "tragedy" is central to Belos' propaganda).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PERSONA 2: (Failed) Witch Hunter Caleb
The persona cultivated by Philip: simultaneously the perfect witch-hunting older brother he WANTS and thinks Caleb SHOULD have been if only he'd never been "corrupted" by witches, and also a rebuke for NOT being that. This is an image built out of Philip's wishes, idealization, hero-worship, nostalgia, and anger. Unfortunately for him, it's a persona that's no more real than Mad Metanoy is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since he's in control of what clothes Caleb has and what furniture is in his room, he both tries to force it on him and punishes him for failing to live up to it. Which leads to my favorite design tidbit: the caged wings motif! I use it a lot lol, mostly on the furniture. I'm not sure it's really something Philip uses in this way on a conscious level, but the implications are pretty rude and it's fun for me to work in.
Similar to the Golden Guard/Gravesfield symbol but not exactly the same because other people aren't really supposed to know that Caleb has anything to do with the Golden Guard. Every time a pair of wings appears in Caleb's captivity, they are always contained within some kind of barrier. Even the wings of the Emperor's Coven symbol on Caleb's headboard are imprisoned beneath a canopy.
Tumblr media
PERSONA 3: and finally, The True Caleb!!
Who he REALLY is: a free-spirited nerd who likes to read, learn, and work with his hands. Poor guy though, he has very limited opportunity to express it. His real persona appears only in the hobbies he's permitted and how he wears and uses the things Philip provides for him.

Anyway, this has been Design Rambling with Doodle. Tune in next time to hear me mumble about furniture probably. Now excuse me, I have to go pull loose peanuts out of the crevasses of my backpack

I also really like Belos I'm sorry
And more Spoilers + ramblings under cut
I saw a post a bit ago where someone thought his death wasn't satisfying enough, which I don't agree with really, but they pointed out that the boiling rain and a pair of boots shouldn't have been enough to take him since he's lived for so many years and it DID have me thinking! I just imagine he's some angry little sludge man that can't do anything now, and my girl here just has him in a jar.
I was at first just gonna have her let him perish in the jar but then I saw ANOTHER user draw where he's back in the human realm, he's happy and being wholesome with animals and I-
Tumblr media
I needed it. Needless to say, it inspired/enabled me.

Phillip was a lonely kid who latched onto caleb as his only companion to guide him in a world he otherwise has trouble navigating. Caleb felt responsible for phillips actions and lived a tense life keeping his brother in line, fearing persecution for himself and his brother if one of them slipped up.
The collector was a lonely kid who latched onto king as their only companion to play with them in a world they would otherwise be bored in. King felt responsible for the collectors actions and lived a tense life keeping his friend in line, fearing that he and his family would be turned into toys if he slipped up.
When caleb befriended evelyn, she shared her world and culture with him, which he was fascinated by. With evelyn, caleb could escape the responsibilities of taking care of his brother and navigating puritan gravesfield. This freedom convinced him to leave behind phillip and choose to be with evelyn instead.
When king befriended luz, she shared her world and culture with him. With luz, king never had to be responsible for keeping the collector in check and trying to protect the people of the boiling isles. He misses this freedom and if he had the choice, king would leave behind the collector and choose to be with luz instead.
When phillip found out caleb chose evelyn over him, he tried to murder evelyn and, in the ensuing fight, killed caleb instead.
When the collector finds out king would choose luz over them...

Lunter au concept: the one where Belos gets ahold of Luz before Eda does, and he gives her the whole Honored Human Guest of the Witch Emperor treatment. instead of giving her the firm but caring reality check that Eda does, he really plays into and encourages her main character syndrome and tells her she totally does have a destiny, this is fate, God the Titan himself brought her to him at this time, so on and so forth.
and as part of it, he decides that he’ll arrange a marriage between her and his dear nephew, the Prince of the Isles.
after all, what better way to usher in a new era of communication and diplomacy between the human and demon realms than this? let their two worlds be united in this one marriage, etc etc!
Luz, fourteen, is not exactly thrilled at the idea of getting married, but she kind of is deeply intrigued with the mysterious magic elf prince who she’s been slowly working on befriending during her time in the castle, who is both a badass bodyguard to the Emperor and also like, extremely sad in a way where she just wants to scoop him up in her arms and squeeze him and fix it (and perhaps?? smooch him a bit??? will that fix it maybe????), so it’s not a total loss, and she’s still seeing this as more or less a fantasy adventure she can dip out of whenever.
(also she doesn’t really have much of a choice since she’s so dependent on Belos for shelter anyway, but, shh.)
Hunter meanwhile absolutely does not want to marry this human. he’s been assigned to escort her around and look after her and it’s already a huge crimp in his usual duties, plus he’s very annoyed with how much his uncle seems to like her. (he also likes her a lot, he can’t help it, Luz has The Power Of Friendship and he’s so incredibly lonely and they aren’t enemies this time, but he won’t admit that.) he always sort of vaguely figured he’d probably end up in some kind of political marriage, since he’s the prince and all, but he didn’t figure it would be now, or to some random human!
and Belos is just having so much fun with this. tying Luz to him even more tightly, grooming her to trust and listen to him so he can take her back home with him triumphantly after she helps him murder all the witches, AND setting up a bizarre inverted version of the original betrayal by Caleb that hurt him so badly, except this time he’s the one controlling it, and he’s sort of hoping that Luz’s noble human influence might make him turn out to be the final, successful grimwalker, and redeem Caleb’s sin.

Shadow Puppets AU - Wittebros + Evelyn Lore Dump
tw: Sexual assault
Disclaimer from myself and Bragi
Tumblr media
-While the story went that Caleb and Philip arrived in Gravesfield alone as orphaned brothers, the truth was actually even more horrible. Philip is not Caleb’s brother, and is actually is nephew through a teenage sister, the product of a rape and since she could not name the father the baby was condemned as a son of the Devil -Caleb and his sister managed to escape their hometown with a small group undesirables and traveled together for a couple of years with Caleb becoming Philip’s primary caregiver when his mother wanted nothing to do with the child and eventually abandoned them all together. -This is a truth that Caleb took to his grave, Philip never learned of this while he was alive and only kind of learned about this upon his return to Gravesfield and encountered a certain member of the community that claimed to be a descendant of this long lost sister- Philip refuses to believe it. In fact by the time of his death, Caleb himself had actually forgotten they weren’t really brothers. -Philip was six when they arrived in Gravesfield, Caleb was twelve. They had nothing and were taken in by the town Preacher, Father Josiah and allowed to live in the church and attend the Sunday school where they were taught to read and write. -As much as a blessing as this at first seemed, Father Josiah was secretly molesting Philip behind closed doors. Caleb found out, but Josiah had also found out about Caleb’s sister and threatened to expose them to keep Caleb quiet while telling Philip “The Lord has big plans for you” to control him. -This situation did not change until Philip met Astrophel at eight years old and he was able to manifest long enough to attack Josiah to protect Philip. Amidst the accusations that Philip had summoned a demon and the debate that he was protected by an Angel, other children came forward to admit that Josiah had been assaulting them as well, leading the town to suspect Josiah of being corrupted by a Demon himself and burned at the stake. -While not entirely evident in the early part of his life, Philip is an autistic savant with a talent for engineering, and struggles to socially connect with anyone outside of his brother and his mysterious friend Astrophel. He was a hard worker though, and when he finished his chores he would help Caleb with his so they had more time to play. -Caleb also knows about Astrophel. They didn’t know that people could only see the Collector if they touched the disk until they tested it with Caleb. He wasn’t as certain as Philip that Astrophel was an Angel, but he was just glad his brother had a friend. -The brothers began dabbling in Witch Hunting after the death of Father Josiah, and Caleb first met Evelyn as she was using her powers as a real witch to save accused human witches from being hung. Caleb at first lied to her about not being a witch hunter and they became friends. -Evelyn had several vials of Titan’s blood at her disposal which she used to create portals to Gravesfield, but rarely met Caleb in person after their initial meeting and mostly used her Palismen, Flapjack to send letters between them. -She had only met Philip a handful of times and never actually saw his face because Philip always had his mask on around her, which she admitted to Caleb, creeped her out a lot. -Philip never suspected that she was a real witch until he saw her taking Caleb to the Demon Realm, he just didn’t like her because she...lightly bullied him, I guess is the best way to put it? Like, she didn’t intend to be mean, she was trying to be affectionate, giving him the nickname ‘Philly’ which he hated, ruffling his hair and breaching all sorts of personal boundaries that he didn’t like, but she really was just trying to bond with him. -Also during one of their in person visits, Evelyn suggested Caleb run away from Gravesfield with her, which Caleb refused to do because he couldn’t leave his brother behind, and Evelyn said something along the lines of ‘C’mon, you gave up your childhood to raise your brother, its time to do something for yourself for a change.” Philip heard her say this. Thankfully he also heard Caleb get mad at her for suggesting that taking care of his brother was a burden. -Caleb and Evelyn had a couple of personal conflicts throughout their friendship, actually, including Evelyn finding out that Caleb was a witch-hunter in training and saying their friendship was over  -Eveyln had heard about Astrophel from Caleb and recognized the disk from ancient scrolls and returned to the Demon Realm to refresh her memory on what it was. After their fight about the Witch-Hunter reveal, she returned with a warning that the Collector is a dangerous being that was responsible for wiping out the Titans of her homeworld and convinced Caleb to take the disk into the Demon Realm with her for his brother’s sake. -Knowing that Philip would never believe that Astrophel was dangerous, they stole the disk in the middle of the night. Evelyn only had two vials of Titan’s blood left and they had to make a choice between taking Caleb with her and bringing him back or leaving a vial for Philip to find and meet them in the Demon Realm later. -Caleb left a letter explaining the situation to Philip, including instructions to find a map that they had hidden in ‘the secret place’ (under the floorboards) which would lead him to the vial of Titan’s Blood to follow them. -Things would have gone down much differently if Philip had ever gotten this letter. Unfortunately, he woke up when Caleb was leaving to meet Evelyn and saw them go through the portal with no context. He immediately went to get the Witch Hunter General and a few other Hunters to go on a rescue mission.  -The letter was recovered from the abandoned Wittebane home after their disappearance which is how the story of the Wittebanes got passed down through Gravesfield, but the map was never found. -Philip was twelve at the time of his brother’s disappearance, Caleb was eighteen. The Witch Hunters all slowly died during the rescue mission leaving Philip on his own by the time he was fifteen after which the worst possible thing that could happen to him happened and he still didn’t find his brother until he was in his early twenties and then it got worse. -After Caleb’s death, Philip began searching for Astrophel with Evelyn creating false disks to throw him off and hot on his trail trying to kill the monster he’s become for many years.
