The Cars of Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World introduces a brand new open-world style to the Mario Kart series, and with it, an entire island jam-packed with details to explore. While others were focused on completing missions, finding medallions or jamming to the banger soundtrack, another detail caught my attention: The many cars, trucks and other vehicles seen all over the island.

Together with @seandwalsh, we have catalogued every type of vehicle that can be found in this game, and discovered there seems to be a surprising amount of thought over which brands each vehicle belongs to. So here's our breakdown of what the biggest car manufacturers in Mario Kart World are!

Dash

The biggest car brand in Mario Kart World seems to be Dash, represented by a mushroom emblem. What could be their main office can be seen in Crown City, plastered with advertisements and their logo all around. Their slogan is "Accelerate the fun". They appear to sell popular cars for regular use, and are responsible for most cars around the island, including taxis and sheriff cars.

Fire Flower

Fire Flower is another brand of cars for popular use found in Mario Kart World. Their emblem is a square-ish Fire Flower and their slogan, according to a sticker, is "Bloom outdoors". This fits perfectly with the types of cars that carry their emblem, those being outdoors cars such as minivans, RVs and off-road cars. Amazing attention to detail.

Fire Flower also provided the new Mario Kart Television vans.

Super Leaf

Leaving the realm of cars, Super Leaf seems to be the main seller of large vehicles, and their emblem is, adequately, a Super Leaf. They are responsible for the cargo trucks, ramp trucks and tour buses that provide service around the island. The large drivable cargo trucks also appear to be modified versions of this company's trucks.

Interestingly, they make the box trucks that run around dropping Dash Mushrooms on the road. These trucks also have Toad Manufacturing branding on them (the company that runs Toad’s Factory), suggesting that they collaborated with them (or maybe modified Super Leaf trucks).

They also have a smaller mini truck model for regular use.

Banana

The Banana brand might only have a single model of trucks found in Mario Kart World, which bears this company's banana emblem on them, but it's clear that thought was still put in this Donkey Kong-owned company. Their trucks are seen carrying barrel cannons and surfboard ramps around roads. Fitting, for the Kongs. 

As a bonus, I have a small theory about this company. Taking the fact that this is a Kong company and that their trucks are used to carry surfboard ramps around, it makes me think of one specific mechanic Kong with a love of surfing…. Funky has been involved in making barrel cannons before, after all.

Nothing is confirmed, but this is fun headcanon to have.

Spiny

The last brand seen on vehicles around the island is called Spiny, and they are branded with a Spiny Shell emblem. Only one model of truck carries this emblem, a purple pickup truck with orange flames. Given the name, and how their trucks are the only ones that carry enemies, it's possible this company is owned by Bowser or Bowser's Minions.

These trucks have been seen carrying Bomber Bill cannons, Hammer Bros., Spikes and other minions, (and vending machines, apparently). A fun little detail is that, unlike other cars that have Toads, Koopa Troopas and Shy Guys driving them around, Spiny trucks have only Koopa Troopas, the most iconic forces in Bowser's Minions.

Rosalina Automobile

A Rosalina Automobile (or Automobiles, pick one, Nintendo!) building can be found in Crown City, along with other advertisements and stickers around the island, but no cars seem to bear their star-shaped emblem. For a game with so much attention to detail, it seems odd to have a car brand with no cars. Maybe they haven't opened yet? Or maybe they're actually a rental service?

Other vehicles

Lastly, a few other vehicles don't seem to carry any car brands, making it difficult to guess which company made them.

One of them is a toy-esque car with Toad Manufacturing branding that races around dropping items on the road. Unlike the Mushroom truck, this one has no apparent emblem on it. Since it looks much more cartoony, and resembles the design of Toad's Factory, it is perhaps an entirely original creation by them.

The other three of those vehicles are all the same model of pickup truck, seen carrying around pipes and lifts. They belong to a company called Hammer Bros. Repair Services, but it is unclear who provided the vehicles themselves. The truck's grill and headlights form the shape of a spanner, so perhaps they were customized by this company.

And that's all @seandwalsh and I could gather from the vehicles seen in Mario Kart World!

There is a stir amongst the locals. Market goods are gathered up and carried away as tiny droplets begin to fall from the sky.

The cycle is coming to a close, dark clouds heralding the arrival of deadly rain. Marbles panics a little - finding a shelter of her own is out of the question. There is no time to spare. She turns to the tribe elders and pleads to take refuge with them.

They do not trust her... but the guest has merely started her work on the spears, and her services are still needed. Spike and Sage exchange rushed whispers, out of Marbs' earshot. Surely they won't let her die out here in the rain?

Indeed, they turn back to her to share the good news. The brown one waves their hand, inviting her to follow. "Come with us" they say, and not a minute too soon. The ground shakes under the weight of oncoming rain with a deafening rumble. Marbles is one of the last to come inside, the heavy shelter gate is closed right behind her. For all the destructive potential at her hands, they've decided she is worth the risk.

The shelter is unlike any other she's seen before - tidy, furnished, well maintained. And big. So, so big.

Orange lanterns dot the ceiling, dimly illuminating the main entrance hall. From there, smaller corridors branch off to the storage and lodging areas. In the middle - a nice resting place for guests, with fabric mats on the ground and beautifully decorated pipes above. Marbles looks around to admire the view. From where she stands, the shelter looks like a maze.

There is a wall in the main hall that is fully covered in vulture masks. Some of them show cracks, circular holes where the spear had been skilfully lodged into a beast's head. Yet most of them are in perfect condition, good as new. Marbles wonders why they're displayed here, instead of being used for fending off other predators. Perhaps they're sold to other tribes, or the right to wear them must be earned first. One thing is certain - this merchant tribe is thriving.

The chief escorts the slugcat guest inside, and signs for her to wait in the common area. Marbles settles down on the cozy mats, waiting patiently for a sleeping cell to be assigned to her...

I was planning on doing the cybertronians body language or anatomy post first but decided to go with this because the info it provides helps with the other two. its also a lot shorter than the other two so I knew I could get it done a lil faster.

Hiiiiii~ ✨ I just wanted to ask,, how does Gender work for cybertronians? I thought it was just a pronoun thing; but then Wildbreak said he was getting a sister, so, is it something different? Is it.. a spark thing..?

In Common Cybertronian, there is one universal pronoun! A sort of all-encompassing “they/them”, if you will.

…and I would try to write it out, but a lot of Cybertronian consists of revving the engine and internal clicking, so it would be quite hard <:)

it's interesting to me how vampire in modern media became an allegory of exploitation and abuse whereas in folklore the vampire symbolizes fear of improper death and the perpetual liminality that comes with it. the folkloric vampire is a creature that violates the rules of proper life stages (the birth-marriage-death rites of passage), usually a warlock or a child that came from a woman impregnated by evil forces, that cannot live a proper life and therefore cannot aquire a proper death and in a continuity of that cannot enter the otherworld properly. it's a warning of dangers of non-conformity. if you live a life that is other from one that's expected of you by customary law you will turn into a monster

Since I have you here… have a few notes about Skizz’s dreamingverse lore?

Now, I'm obviously working off of the angel headcannon. But Dreamingverse doesn't really have ~angels...

So, the Aether, right?: A well known dimention, but completly unaccessible. Well, this is becuase any access to it was shut down after the war with heaven.

You see, the Aether is actually a parasitic glitch. a spreading fever dream that corrupts creators that pass into it, ones who are compelled and amazed by it's beauty and before too long are consumed and altered by it. Likewise, eating up huge chunks of land and corrupting the rest as it spreads. Overworlders and the legions of hell alike did their best to fight the Aether and eventually, Death and the Muses were able to seal the Aether off completely.

Under this logic, Skizz is a corrupt player that was thankfully able to be stabilized and severed from the Aether's influence. I imagine that this is how him and Tango met in fact, when Impulse went looking for help for his buddy and happened upon Tango and Zed.

First off I just wanna say that they are KINDRED SPIRITS

Canonically cj (calico jack) is extremely patient,understanding, and gentle with kwazii. Hes extremely generous, even giving his own golden treasures to decorator crabs who needed them for protection, with little hardship. The treasures he cared most about was literally KWAZIIS BABY PICTURE BOOK-

Even when kwazii was so little and Itty bitty that he couldn't talk he still gravitated towards his grandad!he was huge and giant and let kwazii climb all over him even when his tiny claws dug into him!

More under the cut, they make me want to cry

He had a big hat and pete the parrot was his best friend!!! And once when kwazii was little and he was collecting treasure for him momma (shells and sea glass <3) a HUGGGEEE SNAKE MONSTER tried to eat him! But CJ saved him!!! Cj saved him and laughed kindly to the snake before setting it off with a stern warning. He wasn't even in big trouble either, he just got some tips, some candy, and was made to promise to always be care and use his ears.

He felt safe.

Cj was always there to listen to his yapping and yammering and genuinely care and use it as opportunities to teach him lessons and about the world. He really did help him appreciate the smallest details of the world and how to be gentle with the world and all of its creatures.

Cj also had a tradition with all kittens and kiddos he knew, and that was treasure hunting 🗣 during it, bot only would he spend time with the lil ones one on one, but he'd also teach them survival and tracking skills!!! Definitely was very useful to kwazii

About how cj saw kwazii though? Oh kwazii was a spark of life itself-

Kwazii adored calico jack. Kwazii wanted to show him everything! Kwazii was so little yet he seemed to care and and takeevery little lesson cj tried to share so seriously!!! He'd worry if his own shadow was lonely and he's tried to make sure the sea birds on the ship knew they were welcome to play swords with him too. Of course those sentiments and ideas weren't exactly plausible, but it was the heart behind them.

Honestly? It reminded him of maddie in a way. How fiercely in love she was with her people. But kwazii took it even further since it seemed like he was in love with every single aspect of the entire world. And he just kept growing day by day too.

They just understood eachother in a very special way, and they made eachother even more alive.

Cj was known as a more free spirit, often doing his own treasure hunts on his lonesome. There were some times where he took kwazii along, but for longer trips kwazii had to stay with the rest of their family. But cj understood kwaziis need for exploration and freedom, the same kind that a bird feelings and needs when it takes off to fly. And kwazii knew cj understood too.

Cj also always made kwazii laugh too

Marbles approaches the tribe's trading square, where countless items are spread neatly on fabric mats. Food, weapons, vessels, bags... strings of pearls shimmering in the sun. Bingo! Perhaps she could persuade the scavengers to trade some of them.

Two individuals come out from the nearby shelter entrance. Sage - the head merchant and chronicler, and Spike - the tribe chieftain, greet their new slugcat guest in person.

"SALUTATIONS. YOU HAVE PEARLS?" Marbles signs with her hands. The two scavs look at her, unsure of the scug's intentions.

"Um… I WANT BUY PEARLS. YOU GIVE ME PEARLS, I GIVE YOU…" she pauses, and looks around. Spotting a spear nearby, she hops up to it and grabs it, then ties a piece of cloth around one of its ends and puts it in her maw. The scavengers tense up, their frills stand on ends. Why would this new guest pick up the weapon if not to use it? The guards nearby do not seem to like it either - they clutch their own spears in anticipation, watching the situation closely.

"I GIVE YOU EXPLODING SPEARS. YOU WANT?" Marbles says as she hands them a nicely crafted spear with a deep orange tint on one end. The cloth smells vaguely of sulphur.

"YOU MAKE EXPLOSIVES? WITH MOUTH? HOW!?" The scavs' eyes widen.

"MY SKILL. USEFUL! I MAKE SPEARS FOR YOU, YOU GIVE ME PEARLS. GOOD?"

Spike and Sage look at each other, barely believing what they just saw.

"…YOU CAN MAKE MORE?" The chieftain glances at Marbles. She nods her head in response.

Sage pulls their friend aside for a moment. There is urgency in their voice. "The tribute, Spike. Imagine if we sent two dozen of those spears to Metropolis. We'd earn favour and protection for at least a season, if not longer!"

The chieftain nods. "Yes… this opportunity is too convenient to pass up. Bring the pearls and calculate the exchange rate, but test those spears first. If they are usable, bring her whatever she needs to make more of them. I would still caution everyone to be careful, though."

"YES, GOOD. WE WILL GIVE PEARLS. SETTLE DOWN PLEASE, OTHERS WILL BRING YOU MATERIALS..."

”The Birds and The Bees”

Let’s take a look into the past.

CONTEXT:

A few moons before Moon 0 of BranchClan, Owlshade got into a relationship with a SpottedClan tom named Waspfoot. One thing led to another, with both of them being young and stupid, and Owlshade ended up pregnant. He gave birth to four kits: Violetkit, Bluebellkit, Rosekit, and Lilackit. Owlshade adored his kits. He planned to raise them alone during the first few moons of their lives, and then when they were old enough he would let them visit their father.

That is, until cats began to gossip when the kits were a week old, and just a day later, SpottedClan’s leader Pumpkinstar showed up in camp, demanding to speak with BranchClan’s former leader Ashstar. BranchClan used to have a very strict leader system. Only the kits of former leaders could become the next leader. Ashstar was the only son of the departed Jaystar, and he became leader at only 13 moons old.

Because of this, Pumpkinstar felt uncomfortable with half-SpottedClan kits being raised in an immature clan. He debated with Ashstar for hours. Finally, Ashstar, who wanted to avoid an unnecessary war, came up with a compromise. Three of the kits would go to SpottedClan, and whichever kit Owlshade chose would remain in BranchClan. Pumpkinstar agreed, and Owlshade was forced to make a choice.

Owlshade chose Violetkit, the smallest kit and the one who looked most like Waspfoot, and brought Bluebellkit, Lilackit, and Rosekit to SpottedClan’s border. Waspfoot met him there, and took the three away.

When Owlshade returned the camp was destroyed. As it turned out, dogs had raided camp when he was gone. They killed and/or chased off everyone. Owlshade was able to escape this gruesome fate by being away, and since Violetkit was so small and tucked away in the nursery, the dogs avoided her.

And that was where BranchClan began.

Bluebellkit, Rosekit, and Lilackit were named Bluebellpool, Rosewhisker, and Lilacnose when they grew up. Bluebellpool went on to have her own daughter, Mossyfall. Currently they’re all still alive in SpottedClan with Waspfoot. :)

THE CHANGELING BROTHERS 🗣🗣🗣

Some design notes under cut:

In mythology, changelings are humanoid creatures that have been placed by fae (broad generalized term) in place of a human child, though there are also some stories here and there of adults being taken and replaced by changelings.

Changelings, based on my limited research, only really refer to the creature left behind during some good ol cradle robbing. They are related to the fae, though. Fae, or faeries, cover a broad range of different creatures in all sorts of European mythos, however, from elves to trolls to imps. In more modern art and stories, fae are drawn as tiny little humans with bug-like wings and long, flowing hair. But there have been less flattering depictions throughout history.

Taking the origin of the mythos, and the obvious bug inspiration in the show, I've decided to redesign these two to look like impish little sprites! Changelings in my AU are smaller than the average pony, usually reaching their chin or shoulders. They have thin, flexible bodies that are protected by an exoskeleton! Their jaws are an odd mix of mammalian and insect, so they can expand and protrude their lower jaws while their upper jaw stays fixed to their skull. Their tongues are thin, based on nectar-drinking bugs and animals like butterflies and hummingbirds.

Most changelings have two wings, only Pharynx and Thorax have four wings (reformed form only.)

Pharynx is also a bit taller than the average changeling drone... Have fun imagining how tall Thorax is. Height chart coming eventually.

Their tails are loosely based on a scorpion's stinger, but I took more inspiration from cartoony imp/devil tails in art and cartoons! 😇

It’s… sorta tragic. Especially considering all the good that Shockwave once stood for. Now all he does is stalk around his laboratory, working on whatever… creation… is in that test tube. Poor Soundwave :(
