I do really really hate it when people act like misogynistic men must all be gay because that's the only reason they'd hate women.
A)Why are you being homomisic like that. Why do you think gay men are more likely to be misogynistic? Why do you think not being sexually attracted to women is what leads to systemic oppression of women?
B)just. seriously what's wrong with you. Why are you like this. Why do you want to ignore the fact that cis straight men are the ones who invented and uphold misogyny and the Patriarchy. Why do you want to insist that the only way they could hate and oppress women is if they're secretly gay. Do you have any idea how much of a bigot this idea makes you.
You do not understand how any oppression works at all if you think this way. Especially not misogyny.

Yes, yes, you love Murderbot. You think Murderbot is so funny and relatable. You'd die for Murderbot. We know.
But do you actually use Murderbot's it/its pronouns? Do you actually respect the fact that it's an everything-repulsed aroace and is solitaremit touch-averse, and the fact that it represents real people who are these things?
Or do you just "love" the "relatable" version of Murderbot that exists in your head, where you've cut out and replaced everything that makes it who it is as a character with things you can personally relate to, even though the whole theme of the series is that you need to respect people even when you can't relate to them?
Do you think "representation matters" only when you're the one being represented?
Do you think it magically becomes okay to erase canon Queer identities and disabilities as long as you're not the one being represented?
Do you actually love the character of Murderbot, who is explicitly everything-repulsed aroace, nonbinary and uses it/its pronouns exclusively, and is soltaremit touch-averse?
Or do you just love the OC you've slapped its name onto that exists in your head?

I know we don't know how Olrox and Mizrak's relationship is going to go yet but it is not at all comparable to Hector and Lenore.
Olrox claimed not to care if Mizark died and then went on to save his life. Lenore manipulated and raped Hector.
These are not at all alike. I am genuinely concerned that people say they are.

Something grinding our gears: like, you can be sex-repulsed and still not harass people over fanfiction.
And like, being an aceplex system with varying levels of being on that repulsed/affirmative sliding scale, and it feels like we're simply Stuck between both ends here:
• No! Don't harass people over fanfiction.
• But also you aren't actually sex-positive if you do not acknowledge some people will think it is fucking gross weather there is a purity culture or one is completely absent.
So even the proship spaces just seem vaguely acemisic. And we sometimes wonder how many people call themselves anti or anti-leaning simply because of how pervasive allonormativity is. We wish this could be...acknowledged more? We don't know why this wouldn't be acknowledged more. Yes ship what you want but when everything is romance and sexuality and there's very little platonic stuff in comparison it can be alienating and that can be very taken advantage of.
So nobody even has to be explicitly acemisic or aromisic, it can just be, wdk, maybe the fact that there are undercurrents of that EVERYWHERE even in supposedly accepting spaces, and that includes fandom.
If that?? Makes any sense?? Just while people are talking about queermisia in general here we wanted to pitch in on that.
(Same for aromantics, replace everything with romance-repulsed and amatonormativity and the point SHOULD be fine/about the same.)

Watching positive reaction videos has really loosened us up a bit, when it comes to characters or fandoms or versions of a series that we dislike.
Like, assuming that it’s not being celebrated for bigoted reasons... racism, queermisia, etc... or financially supporting someone who is a bigot? Seeing the sheer joy and love in someone’s eyes when they see their favorite or get really into a story is priceless. In the best of ways.
We don’t care if we hate the character, or pairing/ship, or the series. You love it, random person geeking out on YouTube. It brings you happiness, or some measure of peace or comfort. And that is a precious thing. So even if it’s something we dislike? Or actively can’t stand? We will 100% defend your right to love it, and we will try not to shittalk it around you.
We just want you to be happy, and feel some small bit of relief from real life. And if that means supporting you in your love for some blorbo we hate, or smiling and nodding at what anime boys you wanna see kiss, or ignoring how badly an adaptation did with the source material... okay.
We just ask the same favor in return.

Periodical reminder, that I have a Naruto focused server to hang around, talk and simp. I aim to create a queer friendly fandom space, where everyone is chill about fandom discourse. The server is not too big, but active nonetheless.
What you get upon joining:
Channels for general chats and rl pics (including my birbs and balcony pidgey fam :D)
Separate roles for sfw, nsfw and dead dove topics, so everything is opt-in and you can design your own user experience. If you like the nsfw content but no dead dove, then simply grab only the nsfw role!
No minors in the server, please. Sorry, kids, that’s not a place for you.
Corners for Naruto fanart, Naruto fanfics and for other fandoms as well. (As if I would ever shut up about elves and Ainur and dragon riding queens who deserve better, dracarys bitches.)
Members can request their own channels to do whatever the fuck they want with it. If you want a place to spam your wips, but don’t feel like putting them in the general channels, that would be an option for you. Just one example.
Server exclusive events like the Trope of the Month. Members get to suggest and vote upon the tropes every month.
We technically have voice channels and the opportunity is there to play games together, but tbh so far we haven’t done this.
If you want up to date updates on my writing, you find them on the channel as well ^^
Rules for trigger warnings, so even in the dead dove channels we warn for potentially triggering stuff like gore and hide behind spoilers if deemed neccessary.
No bigots (ableists, racists, Nazis, TERFs, radfems, battleaxe bis, exclus ect.) allowed. This is one of the very few hard rules. We don’t promote works of bigots on the server, because that’s not how Death of the Author works. The server aims to be a save space for queer people and that does not work, if you think it’s ok to consume stuff from a TERF like jkr.
We allow every content, that does not promote racism, queermisia, antisemitism ect.
Every content means literally this. We believe in freedom to fiction, that ship bashing is uncool and that your kink is not my kink and that’s ok. So if you search for a place to be kinky af and unhinged, you’ve found it! We allow any kink and any dead dove, even the stuff some might find “problematic” or “gross”.
We gave the bots we have funny names. For example the ao3 linker bot is our Uchiha Stone Tablet, the Carl-bot is Shikamaru, Rock Lee is the Apollo bot for creating events Kakashi is Not Quite Nitro, that allows you to use animated emojis without paying for Nitro, and so on. Sorrynotsorry, I though I was funny with that.
What's new since I last promoted by server:
We banned AI and NFTs. Went without saying so far, but better make it clear. That shit sucks, we don't want that. Be gone. Go back to the abyss whence you came from!
We added a channel for shameless self promo. Ok, honestly, if you only join to promote your commission sheet, boo. But if you, at any point, feel like you want to promote something like your commission sheet or stuff you're selling, we now have the place for it.
If you can’t be chill about this, please don’t join.
@narutoevents heared you also boost servers? Can the Naruto Hell get a little boost pls? 🥺👉👈

two articles by Seanan McGuire that I want to draw to the attention of those who follow me generally and @edeniz001 in specific:
Gormenghast With Hooves: Learning the Art of Dark Storytelling From My Little Pony
[T]his was the 1980s, the great era of thirty-minute commercials disguised as children’s programming. G.I. Joe, the Transformers, they all had cartoons… and the properties intended for boys had network censors on hand, making sure that no one ever actually got shot or died. War was intended to be another form of play, and the closest we saw to a fatality was the horrific mutation of a few side characters on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or The Inhumanoids.
Cartoons that were assumed to have an all-female audience, on the other hand, needed less supervision. I mean, how violent could a show about talking horses with magical powers and flowers on their butts really get?
Oh. Oh, those poor fools.
In the very first animated adventure of the Ponies, they fought the Devil. Like, the Devil. He wanted to transform innocent Ponies into dragons of darkness and use them to bring about eternal night, as one does. Lots of Pony panic and some casual kidnapping followed, and something in my tiny blonde brain went “click.”
You could get away with anything, if you made it fluffy and pink enough. You could destroy the whole world, as long as you were willing to cover it in glitter first.
Oh, this was going to be fun.
The Bodies of the Girls Who Made Me: Fanfic and the Modern World
So you have generations—literal, multiple generations—of largely female authors growing up steeped in fanfic. Making our own stories from high school on, if not before. Trying to find our way to a schema of story that actually fits us.
(You also have generations of queer authors, trans authors, and gender-nonconforming authors, all going on their own journeys. My sexuality definitely influenced my attraction to fanfic, because finally, I wasn’t being judged for it.)
This means that you have, again, generations of female authors who have gone through the most rigorous writing school in existence, going pro and starting to publish. Yes: the most rigorous. FIGHT ME. Fanfic taught me pacing. Taught me dialog. Taught me scene, and structure, and what to do when a deadline attacks. Fanfic taught me to take critique, to be edited, to collaborate, to write to spec. FANFIC MADE ME.
[…]
Because here’s where I’m going to pivot a little, and tell you a filthy, filthy secret: lots of men write fanfic too. It’s just that sometimes they can get away with calling it “homage,” or “public domain,” or “licensed work,” and get on with their bad selves. Maybe more importantly, the world calls it all those things.
Fuzzy Nation? Fanfic. Wicked? Fanfic. Every X-Men comic written since Claremont stopped? Fanfic. Your beloved Hamilton? Real-person fanfic. Songfic, even.
The Default, now, is that a man who writes fanfic is uplifting and transforming, showing us the pearl within the oyster, whereas all the woman wants to show us is the “pearl” in the “oyster,” in the Victorian sense. AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VICTORIAN SENSE. But this is just an updated version of the “men write literature, women write romance” conversation[.]
anyway I really, really like Seanan McGuire

Fandoms will see a cannonically, explicitly Queer character who represents multiple of the most stigmatized groups within the Queer community and will go "okay, but what if I erase all of these traits I dislike to make ~them~ more palatable for me?"
And then act shocked when the minorities who are being purposefully erased are angry about this.
Fandom will see a characters who is canonically nonbinary, uses it/its pronouns, is aroace and viscerally disgusted by the thought of being in any kind of relationship, and hates being touched, and go
"Oooh! But ~they~ would be better if ~they~ didn't use those disgusting pronouns! Nonbinary people all use they/them! If you use it/its pronouns you're disgusting. This character uses they/them pronouns now because they're real pronouns!!!! "Ooh and don't you think ~they'd~ be so much better if ~they~ were horny for this brown man I am whitewashing for the sake of shipping with this aroace character, who I am also whitewashing for the sake of shipping.
"Oooooooooh but noo you know what'd be even better? O: if this character was a binary trans woman!!! Or a binary trans man!!!!! Because nonbinary people are gross and not real anyways :)
"Oh this blatantly autistic character explicitly says it hates being touched and only touches people in life or death situations when the literal only other option is letting them die?
"Well silly billy, don't you know that if you don't want to be touched there's something deeply, deeply wrong with you that you need to fix? I'm not being ableist by saying this, though! Really, when you think about it, you're the one who's ableist because you don't want this character's touch aversion to be healed by the power of friendship/sex/romance!!!!"
Fandom will literally see a character whose traits are demonized by all of society and go "okay but hear me out what if I demonize these Queer and disabled traits and remove everything that makes this character who it is so that it's less repulsive to me as someone whose identities are more socially accepted?"
And then insist that they're totally progressive and Queer friendly and welcoming to minorities and such a fun, safe, great fandom to hang out in.

//racism, ableism, queermisia, islammisia, xenomisia
It's actually so disappointing to see which parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure failed to have cultural impacts -- all despite the immense popularity of the series, & how it blew up both in the 80's when the manga started, & the 10's when the anime started.
The queer elements are such a staple in the series, & yet all the edgy dickhole internet funnymen who love JJBA haven't stopped for one second to be like,
"Hey, maybe men wearing lipstick & pink & long hair & Versace underwear is actually kinda cool and not fucked up?"
Y'all edgy bastards are stubborn as fuck lol
Let me tell you about Mohammed "Avdol" Abdul also.
I was born in the U.S. in the 90's, & my god -- hatred & fear of Arabic-speaking people was so normalized in my world.
The thing about that, I was never exposed to anyone saying things like "Arab people are bad" specifically. Never.
It was more vague, more manipulative. Normalized in small pieces.
I grew up to see anything written in Arabic & to think it was something evil & scary.
& I still see that ideology perpetuated around the internet, particularly in connection to anti-Islam ideology.
Many marginalized people know & have experienced that representation does make a difference.
JJBA SDC might be from the 1980's, but I didn't see it until watching the anime version in 2020, & that was THE FIRST TIME I saw positive representation of literally anyone who Americans stuff under the "Middle Eastern" umbrella term.
I don't think JJBA can be consumed non-critically. You can check off a helluva lot of "-isms" in it, my god.
Particularly in the manga.
For instance, there's canon ableism & sanism towards literally every disabled character in the series.
That being said, not to diminish the damage that ableism does, that ableism changed my life.
Steel Ball Run changed my life.
I had experiences with disability even just in the past few years that some of the scenes in SBR were so parallel to that it hurt like hell.
Johnny sobbing on the ground when he realizes he might truly never be able to walk again.
The medical attendant making fun of him for being upset about & having a meltdown about his digestive functions not working how he's used to.
I read those parts like, "Wtf... wtf... is there a word for this???"
It hadn't occurred to me that ableism was a thing, & that it was systemic. That disabled people are a marginalized social group.
That ableism was largely why my life had gone the way it had gone.
Honestly, I don't think there's been a fandom that has pissed me off this much.
I mean, I'm just talking about the nasty alt-right kinda nasties. But how do these fuckers see representation of groups they hate & then just keep going lol
I'll confidently attribute it to willful ignorance.
The kind of bullshit where you have dickwads saying "racism isn't real" while seeing blatant acts of racism in front of them, just to say there's some other explanation.

This feels like its about the recent Velma thing, where confirming she likes women as well as men has lead to news headlines saying she’s exclusively lesbian now.
Likely context.
I agree in the way that people are treating Velma as canonically a lesbian because a movie made her non-specifically sapphic is bad.
However, Velma is a character from the end of the 60's. I don't think it would be wrong to have her be exclusively interested in women, even though she has been shown to like men in the past. This is because of the fact that most Scooby-Doo media has nothing to do with each other, adapting a presumed straight character as gay is not erasure, and because sometimes people think they like men before they learn that, no, they only like women.
That said, the people saying an adoption where Velma will have a crush on Fred has "ruined" her are just telling on themselves.

Is the concept of "fandom" even compatible with caring about and criticizing the bigotry in media? Because I'm starting to think the answer is no.
Most fans are happily bigoted in every way imaginable, and refuse to even acknowledge that something they like has bigotry in it, which inevitably leads to them perpetuating that same bigotry. Even when you go out of your way to make it clear that you're not condemning them for liking the thing with bigotry in it.
And now other nonbinary people want to pretend that pointing out exorsexist stereotypes means you're the real exorsexist, rather than just acknowledging that sometimes, characters are bigoted stereotypes, whether you enjoy them or not.

This post is especially dedicated to:
Black and brown people,
Physically disabled people,
aroace, nonplatonic, relationship-replused people,
touch averse and solitaremit people,
people who use pronouns other than she/her and he/him
nonbinary and genderqueer people
and everyone else who finally, finally gets to see some fucking decent representation...only for bigoted fans to immediately erase it and steal it for themselves and spam the fucking tags with the erasure and bigotry.

[ID: a twelve panel comic showing two stick figures, one seafoam green, and one lavender purple.
Seafoam has many circles aranged in front of them, showing characters in representation that are like them. Lavender has only three.
In the first panel, Seafoam is grinning widely, and Lavender is smiling. Both look happy, though Seafoam is happier.
Then Seafoam spots Lavender's representation.
Seafoam moves closer to Lavender, staring at its representation. Lavender, thinking Seafoam is simply admiring them, smiles, and asks, "Pretty cool, huh?"
Seafoam then reaches out for Lavender's representation, and Lavender, alarmed and confused, asks, "Wait what are you doing?"
Seafoam, picking up the representation, grins, and replies, "Making them like me!"
The representation turns blue, no longer purple. Lavender says, "But you already have so many that are like you!"
Seafoam deposits the stolen representation with the rest of their pile, and, grinning, replies, "I want these ones too!"
Lavender cries, "But now I won't have any! Those were the only ones I had!"
Seafoam smiles contentedly, and replies simply, "I'm okay with that!" The representation that was once Lavender's is no longer recognizable.
For two identical panels, Lavender stares at the smiling Seafoam in silence.
The last panel shows Lavender with its hands around Seafoam's neck, its eyes glowing red, and the whole thing motion blurred slightly as it screams in red, spray-paint style text, "I'm going to fucking kill you!!!!"
End ID.]
Bonus for people who Dare™ to headcanon characters as queer, Black or brown, or any other oppressed category.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: A two panel comic, with Seafoam staring in disgust at Lavender, saying, "Hold it. What do you think you're doing?"
Lavender, holding a single ball of representation, smiles nervously and replies, "Well, you have so many and I don't have any, I just want this one…" It trails off.
The next panel shows Seafoam screaming and throwing their arms into the air, eyes glowing red and they scream, "You can't do that, get your own you fucking snowflake, who do you think you are, how dare you say this character might be like you you fucking freak, get out of here!!!" with many exclamation points at the end. Lavender, shocked, stares ahead silently.
End ID.]
Anyways, don't fucking interact with this post or my blog if you think "blackwashing" is an actual problem or at all comparable to whitewashing. Literally just shut the fuck up. Black and brown people creating representation for themselves is not the same fucking thing as white people whitewashing Black and brown characters. White people cannot be the victims of racism.
Darkening a character's skin for positive representation will literally never be fucking comparable to whitewashing.

Ladd Ehlinger, infamously racist and misogynistic conservative, creator of the 2007 Flatland film thinks that adults who respect trans kids' chosen pronouns are pedophiles. He also thinks that using tax money to feed poor school children is the same thing as slavery, and that Black people are all inherently racist and if we don't jail them at disproportionate rates then they'll run around murdering white people all the time.
Can everyone stop creating fanart for his film? You are doing free advertising for him and his creation. Even if you're making the characters gay, you are still promoting his film, allowing him to get more attention.
This man is infamously racist, misogynistic, and now saying he thinks using a trans kid's pronouns makes you a pedophile.
There is no good reason to be promoting his film with hundreds of posts of fanart gushing about his versions of the characters when other adapatations exist, and you can literally just read the original book and then make your own original designs for the characters to make your shitposts for.
You cannot separate the art from the artist when the artist is benefiting from all the attention you are giving him and his creation for free. Which is what you're all doing by constantly making fanart for his versions of the characters and telling everyone how much you loved his film.
The man literally thinks that taxes being used to feed poor school children is the exact same thing as slavery. He thinks using a kids' pronouns makes you a pedophile.
Stop. Making fanart. For the racist misogynistic transmisic conservative's film that ignores all of the politics of the original novel because he is the exact sort of person Edwin Abbot Abbot was criticizing when he wrote the book.
Literally just make your own versions of the characters to fanout over. They're literally a square and a sphere. You can do literally anything you want. But stop making free promotional material for a racist conservative bigot.
Flatland fandom I am begging you to care about real world minorities more than you do the designs for public domain characters created by a bigot so blatantly racist and misogynistic that Republicans had to condemn him.
Literally make your own designs for the characters. It's free. It takes five seconds.
Stop promoting the creation of Ladd Ehlinger. Stop doing free advertising for him and his creation.
If you care about minorities at all you will take 5 seconds out of your day to make an original design for a literal square and sphere to make shitposts about.
My patience with this crap has been thinning by the day with the nonstop deluge of fanart for his versions of the characters that does not in any way reflect the progressive politics of the original novel.
By deliberately continuing to fawn over the designs for these characters created by a bigot, and pretending they're just two completely disconnected things who have noting to do with politics, you are directly contributing to the bigotry the original novel was created to fight against.
It is not harmless to do free advertising for a conservative bigot. It is not harmless to insist that you just have to worship the creation of a racist misogynist transmisic over taking 5 seconds to just make a new design for the characters.
I was trying to be nice and accommodating about this crap but that was before everyone started posting worse and worse things and I'm just not going to tolerate it anymore.
Make new designs for the characters. They are literally. A square and a Sphere. Open up MS Paint or literally any drawing app on your phone or get out a piece of paper and make a design.
Stop doing free advertising for a racist misogynistic bigot who thinks respecting trans kids makes you a pedophile.
I am no longer asking nicely.
Edit: Gravity Falls fandom, this also applies to you, since most people are hearing of the film from your end. Please do your part to inform people about this man's bigotry and ask them to stop doing free advertising for him.
Flatland is public domain. There are dozens more ways to learn about it that don't require watching the 2007 film and doing free advertising for it's infamously bigoted creator. This post is a masterlist of links for where to read, watch, and listen to it.
You're not at fault if you already made fanart before finding out about the creator. But now that you do know, you have to choose whether you care more about real minorities, or the designs made by this racist bigot.
