What queer books do you recommend?
oh honey i have a whole rec page here if you're up for anything, but i mostly read adult m/m fiction. lots of weird and old stuff with dark tones more often than not. if you want some specific titles as a flavor list, here's a few favorites! i'll link their storygraph pages so you can read their synopses too:
Fantasy: The Rifter by Ginn Hale (dark fantasy featuring a romance that spans years and time and space in decaying world with a destroyer god, and bones. so many bones. has one of the most interesting and well written story structures i've encountered. very moody and dark, hits just right).
Scifi: Body after Body by Briar Ripley Page (erotic adult scifi novella with transmasc and transfem MCs. dreamlike and grotesque, delicate and stomach churning, it's about a group of mind-wiped laborers tending genetically engineered mutant bodies.)
Historical: The Still by David Feintuch (my book series of all tiiiiiiime. it's fantasy too but mostly medieval military fiction. don't even talk to me about Rodrigo if you're not ready to be hit with a twelve page verbal essay i'm not joking, that is a threat. not a typical romance, expect heartbreak and plenty of it and to never recover.)
Horror: Hexslinger series by Gemma Files (planning a reread of this one soon to see if it still holds up but this series has stuck with me like a fly to molasses. it's a fucked up time full of desperation, Mayan gods and godessess, faggotry, blasphemy, and witchery) go with the Bound in Flesh anthology instead if you want good trans body horror, or Down by Ally Blue for deepsea suspense horror.
Contemporary: All for the Game by Nora Sakavic (you probably know about this classic but for me it still tops most everything else i've read. it's got sports, mafia drama, and trauma). for something a little different (but still traumatic) try Mo Du / Silent Reading by Priest (dark mystery set in China that follows several disturbing cases and the psychology behind them + romance between a detective and a rich pretty boy)
but yeah i talk about books a lot on my personal/main blog @wiltking (in lieu of updating my actual rec pages these days, it seems) if you ever want more real time recs! i'm a book guy. i like books a normal amount :)

Lego Model Kits Ideas for Adults
Lego model kits for adults can range from sophisticated architectural designs to intricate replicas of famous vehicles or even scenes from beloved movies and TV shows. Here are some ideas:
Architecture Series: Lego's Architecture series features iconic landmarks from around the world like the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal, and more. These sets are designed with attention to detail and make for great display pieces.
Creator Expert Vehicles: This series includes advanced builds of vehicles such as the Volkswagen Beetle, the Aston Martin DB5, the Ford Mustang, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. These sets often feature realistic details and are appealing to car enthusiasts.
Lego Ideas Sets: Lego Ideas sets are fan-designed creations that have been approved for production. They cover a wide range of themes, from pop culture references like the Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters to educational sets like the Women of NASA.
Technic Sets: Lego Technic sets are known for their advanced building techniques and working mechanical parts. Examples include the Porsche 911 RSR, the Liebherr R 9800 Excavator, and the Land Rover Defender.
Star Wars UCS (Ultimate Collector's Series): These sets are highly detailed models of iconic Star Wars vehicles and ships, such as the Millennium Falcon, Imperial Star Destroyer, and TIE Fighter. They are designed with adult collectors in mind.
Ideas for Display: Consider building a custom display piece, such as a scene from a favorite movie or book, a replica of a famous painting or sculpture, or a detailed diorama of a historical event.
Modular Buildings: Lego's Modular Buildings series offers highly detailed sets of buildings that can be connected to create a street or cityscape. Examples include the Downtown Diner, the Assembly Square, and the Bookshop.
Collectible Minifigures Series: While not model kits per se, these blind-bagged minifigure series offer a fun and collectible aspect to Lego building. Themes range from historical figures to characters from movies, sports, and fantasy worlds.
Custom Builds: For those with a creative streak, designing and building custom models from scratch can be a rewarding challenge. Whether it's a futuristic spaceship, a fantasy castle, or a detailed landscape, the possibilities are endless.
Robotics and Mindstorms: Lego Mindstorms sets offer opportunities to build and program robots using sensors, motors, and programmable bricks. These sets are great for adults interested in robotics and STEM education.
These ideas should provide a good starting point for adult Lego enthusiasts looking for challenging and rewarding building experiences.

THE HUMILIATION OF GRAHAM by Lisa Simons
‘Good, well before we begin, I should share with you that whilst you desire the pain of submission, I desire the sting of humiliation.’
Christine waved her hand to include the two women sitting opposite her on the sofa.
‘These are two of my friends. They are here to add to that humiliation. There will be more women, six, at least. They will be introduced slowly, over the coming months, partly to ease you in gently, but mainly because I desire to saviour the experiences to their fullest. So you have a choice. You can walk out and nothing more will be said about a power exchange or you can come in and take off your clothes. My girlfriends are dying to see this cock of yours I’ve told them so much about. I can assure you, this is what I desire.’
Graham didn’t hesitate and entered the living room fully. Whilst he desired the pain, another desire warred within him, the desire to serve. It was one he bulked at, one he hadn’t, couldn’t fully embrace. He was a captain of industry, a man of wealth, power, position and prestige. The images of him kneeling before his wife felt good, felt right, but he struggled with it. Now, here he was, standing before his wife and two other women. Women he had only ever had a nodding acquaintance with, about to undress and show them his cock, a cock that was raging hard and demanding release from the tight confines of his pants and boxers.
‘Well?’
Graham shook off his thoughts and undid the buttons of his shirt. Within a minute, he was pushing down his pants and boxers, marching on the spot to work them down his legs and off his feet.
‘Men, they have no idea how to undress,’ said one of the women.
Pauline, Graham thought. And the other is... is..... Belinda.
‘Hands on your head,’ said Christine.
Graham obeyed.
‘Now, as I was saying, pain will be delivered as you desire, but gradually, so I can be sure you can take what I give you. I am not so much worried about the hairbrush, paddle or cane across your ass; I think you can take quite a bit there. No, more the pain I intend to inflict on your balls.’
Graham blinked.
‘You were right, Christine, he wasn’t expecting that,’ said Pauline, laughing.
‘I told you. So many submissives say they want to submit to the desires of their Master or Mistress but really they want to submit to the fantasies they have in their heads, their Master or Mistress merely there to play a role.’
Christine nodded.
‘If that came as a surprise, my dear, then you should also know I intend to fuck your ass. Well, I say I. I should say we, me and my girlfriends. All of them, and believe me, you will get all the pain you can handle with the dildos we have chosen. Over the coming weeks you will be fucked by average sized dildos, similar in size to what we girls have to contend with, then something a little bigger, more like that beast you’re sporting right there, but after that, dildos with names like, King Kong, The Minotaur, The Anal Destroyer and The Fist will give you some idea of what to expect.’
‘Christine fucked me vaginally with the smallest of those named ones and I can tell you I couldn’t walk straight for a week,’ said Belinda. ‘If she came near my ass with that, I would have run screaming from the room. The thought of those others....’ Belinda shuddered theatrically.
‘That’s why I will tie you down,’ said Christine, looking at Belinda.
Graham smiled at the shocked look Belinda gave Christine but also noted the blush upon her cheeks and knew instantly she had submissive tendencies, too.
‘You desire pain, and as I say, I will give you that, but perhaps not as you desire, not only at least.’
Graham looked at Christine, waiting, dread and desire warring within.
They both knew where she was heading and one savoured the coming declaration, the other both feared and wanted it.
‘I’m talking, of course, about your balls,’ said Christine. ‘They will provide a great source of amusement for me and a great deal of pain for you. And I will get all the humiliation from you I desire,’ Christine added ominously, ‘starting now.’
Graham looked at Christine, one eyebrow arched.
‘I told the girls what a heavy cummer you are, and they would like to see.’
Whilst he heard the words, Graham couldn’t fathom what Christine wanted him to do.
Christine wasn’t cross. She hadn’t expected instant obedience, instant wavelength connections. In truth, that would have spoiled it somewhat for her. She was looking forward to his training, to moulding him to be the submissive she desired. Unlike Graham, she had no inner turmoil of her husband kneeling before her, obeying her, serving her. She was also confident that by the end of the next six to eight months, Graham would not only accept her rules within the power exchange but also the ones she intended to set him for outside too. She would truly become the Head of House, ruling with an iron fist when necessary and giving Graham a short leash within which to live and serve.
Her pussy tightened, tingled and seeped moisture as she squeezed her legs together, enjoying the frisson her thoughts created.
‘I want you to knock one out, dear,’ she explained, delighting in the instant deepening of embarrassment upon his face, his rosy cheeks from being naked in front of two of her girlfriends now a deeper red and one that covered his entire face.
‘I see you are beginning to understand the bargain,’ she said.
Graham nodded, turning over the trade-off, balancing the books.
‘Know that I will never ask you to do something that I do not desire you to do,’ said Christine. ‘I won’t humiliate or degrade you for the sake of it, thought I will humiliate and degrade you. Everything I ask of you will arouse and please me. So I guess, the question is, do you wish to arouse and please me?’
Graham nodded and, without conscious thought, his fingers curled around the shaft of his cock, his hand moving before his consciousness became aware of his actions.
As his hand moved, he looked first at his wife, the shining excitement within her eyes, the blush of arousal upon her chest, evidencing her desire and pleasure. Looks mirrored by Pauline and Belinda. Confidence surged within him and his hand moved with familiar ease. Humiliation still burned within him, that hadn’t diminished, but the knowledge he was pleasing his wife, his mistress balanced his mind, allowing him to fully give himself to the task.
As the cum boiled within his sack, he bit his bottom lip and looked at Christine, unsure whether he was just supposed to ejaculate, spurting his cum into the air and over everything and doing something else.
Christine held his gaze, a small smile playing on her lips as she intuitively knew of his dilemma.
Graham’s hand didn’t falter, his orgasm soaring as his arousal was fanned by his wife’s display of control and power over him. Sweat broke out upon his forehand as he fought against the urge to give his body the reins and ride the climatic wave that was building within his balls and cock.
Christine waited for as long as she dared. Walking a fine line between maximising her exercise of control, for the enjoyment and benefit of them both, and having him shoot all over her lounge, Christine savoured the deliciousness of the scene for as long as she dared.
‘Pauline,’ Christine snapped.
From the shocked look on Pauline’s face, as first she looked to Belinda, then to Christine as if she had not heard correctly, she clearly hadn’t been expecting the command but with just that moment’s hesitation she was down on her knees, taking his enormous head into her mouth, her tongue swirling over the crown, her cheeks hollowing as she sucked.
‘Just a few more seconds,’ said Christine. ‘You can hold it for that long, can’t you, for me?’
Graham nodded, his concentration fully focused on holding back the tsunami of an orgasm.
‘Now.’
Graham groaned, his hand powering up and down hard before it stopped suddenly.
Christine knew that was the moment the first spurt had erupted. She didn’t need Pauline’s bulging eyes to confirm it, either. Well experienced herself, she knew Graham would pump out four full spurts of cum, and then would need further pumping to draw up more from the reservoir waiting to be released. Orgasms rippled through her as she imagined it, drawing on her own memories, Pauline’s mouth being flooded with hot salty cum, so thick it would ooze down her throat. Before one mouthful had even cleared, another would shoot into her mouth, the third joining what was left of the second, and the fourth adding even more to that. Add Pauline, being a lesbian, and it just sent her arousal through the roof and Christine’s body tingled and pussy tightened as orgasms rippled through her.
‘You had better not spill a single drop,’ warned Christine, practically hugging herself. She couldn’t believe it. This was better than she had imagined it, better than she had fantasised it, ever since Graham had first hinted of an intimate power shift.
Graham couldn’t see but also knew Pauline’s mouth and throat would be working overtime to get it all down before more followed. All this happened in mere moments. He looked at Christine, who smiled warmly and nodded, before firming his grip once more and pumping hard, drawing up the reserves, flooding her with a fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth spurt. Although less, they still amounted to a prodigious volume.
‘Keep sucking,’ Christine command.
Graham squealed and wriggled, Pauline having to hold on to his hips to stay connected, to obey her Mistress’s command, sucking hard at his quickly softening cock.
‘Stand still and take it,’ Christine commanded.
Graham instantly froze; only his head shaking, high-pitched whining sounds coming from his mouth as Pauline took her revenge, not only sucking but wanking his cock with her hand, ensuring the bulbous head got nearly all the attention as she found that’s when he squealed the loudest.
After a good couple of minutes, Christine relented, more because the effect on Graham seemed to be lessening, the sensitivity desensitising, then any mercy.
‘Good,’ said Christine. ‘Before, Pauline, Belinda and I spank your ass until it’s beetroot red, Pauline, you hesitated before obeying my command. Strip!’
Graham watched as Pauling immediately leapt to her feet, fingers already undoing buttons, and was impressed with her alacrity.
‘I will expect nothing less from you, my dear,’ said Christine, looking at Graham, once again demonstrating her ability to read his thoughts.
Graham nodded, his cock twitching as Pauline pushed down her panties to stand naked, hands on head.
‘Naughty boy,’ said Christine. ‘This is not for you. Face the wall, hands on your head.’
Graham obeyed, disappointment clear upon his face, causing Christine to chuckle.
‘I can see this is going to be so much fun.’
Graham’s heart bloomed with warmth, and his spirits soared as he faced the wall. His cock slowly hardened as the sounds of a spanking, together with Pauline’s cries slowly growing in volume, filled the room. He knew his turn was coming, and he felt both anticipation and trepidation at the thought.

Emilia Clarke Absolutely Knows The Scene In Game Of Thrones She Would Go Back And Change
Spoilers ahead! Only read if you've seen the ending to Game of Thrones.
Emilia Clarke got her big break as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, which she has parlayed into a rather eclectic career that includes romantic comedies and other fan-favorite franchises. The HBO fantasy series has been finished for a few years now, but Clarke is still constantly peppered with questions about any scrap of detail that takes us back to the world of White Walkers, conspiring liars and unfortunate love stories. The Mother of Dragons is a good sport, though, and she has an answer for the one scene she would absolutely go back and change. And I think most of the Internet might just agree with her… I certainly do!
In truth, it’s likely the only logical Daenarys Targaryen scene to contemplate changing in Game of Thrones. It’s certainly the scene that polarized fans a lot when they first saw it in the series finale back in 2019. In her segment with theSkimm, Emilia Clarke revealed what she would change, saying:
“Right, the bit where I died!”
Ah, yes, the scene in which Jon Snow chose duty over love and stabbed Daenerys Targaryen to death, mere feet from the Iron Throne. It seems as though Emilia Clarke took a page out of Sean Bean’s own playbook and aimed to be more humorous than serious in her answer. But fans, and the North, remember their reaction to that final season, and it wasn’t exactly pretty.
Some of the biggest complaints about what played out in the final episodes of Game of Thrones centered on the major female characters, such as Brienne of Tarth left crying in her bathrobe over a man or Cersei Lannister crying in the face of death. It became a question of character development that is still hotly debated to this day. The contention only amplified when Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen went from the breaker of chains to the mad hatter destroyer of cities in what felt like no time at all. Others would argue that there were hints of Daenerys’ fall, way before that season.
But the short and sweet reason behind the outrage over Daenarys Targaryen’s fate on Game of Thrones is that mostly everyone wanted her to win. They did not want to see her die. After years of fan-favorite characters being killed off at random, we just wanted that one good thing to prevail. I guess Emilia Clarke would’ve too, if she could change the scene herself.
Nevertheless, she may be known as the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, the Unburnt, the…well, you get the point, but Emilia Clarke is also forging a path that would make even her Game of Thrones character proud. She recently joined the MCU family through Disney+'s Secret Invasion, based on the comic book crossover of the same name that sees alien Skrulls infiltrate different levels of life on Earth. Clarke has also written her own comic book, M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, which sounds like something Season 8 Daenerys would’ve have liked to have read if she never ended up dying.
But we can put those questions about that Game of Thrones scene to bed. The Queen has spoken. At least for now. Chances are the spinoffs, one slated for a release on HBO in 2022, will also draw varied opinions from fans.
While you wait for those, you can revisit Game of Thrones by streaming it on HBO Max. (Although I don’t know why you would want to put yourself through that finale season again)

how to live here!
here's a special deleted scene that was supposed to go in one of the chapters after rachel and chloe start fighting, but i never really found a place where it made sense. but i always liked it too much to delete it.
The first time Chloe had talked about hanging out in a junkyard, Max had kind of assumed she’d been joking.
She’s been here a few times already since her return to Arcadia Bay, but the novelty of it still hasn’t worn off. Chloe doesn’t seem to mind, letting her wander off, camera in hand, to explore and take photos by herself until she’s halfway through a roll of film and finally satisfied.
Max lets the sound of breaking glass lead her back to Chloe and snaps one more picture. Chloe, broken off hockey stick poised at the highest arc of a big swing, aimed at the sun-bleached head of a mannequin perched atop a splintered milk crate like a fucked up golf ball on a tee.
The arc of the swing is completed. The head goes flying with a sharp crack, landing in a pile of scrap a few feet away. Chloe holds the stick up over her head and cheers.
“You get that, Max?” she calls over her shoulder. “One for the highlight reel.”
“Got it,” Max confirms, reaching up to withdraw the Polaroid as it’s ejected from the camera. She closes the distance between them to show Chloe the shot.
“Sick,” Chloe says, and then twirls the stick in her fingers. “Y’know, I never used to allow press in here before, but maybe that was a mistake. A few more like that and maybe I can finally catch some attention from the big leagues.”
“I can’t imagine they can ignore skills like yours for very long,” Max grins, leaning up on her tiptoes and craning her neck to try to spot the mannequin head in the garbage.
Chloe grins again and mimes another swing. “Wanna take a shot? Ride out my hot streak?”
“I’m good,” Max says.
Chloe nods and shrugs and swings again abruptly, for real, putting the end of the hockey stick through the screen of a boxy old TV on the ground suddenly and loudly enough to make Max jump.
“You sure?” She props a boot on the corner of the TV to hold it in place as she yanks the stick loose. “It’s hella cathartic. You’ve always struck me as having more rage than you’re willing to own up to.”
“Do I really?” Max asks, a little alarmed.
“Maybe I’m projecting,” Chloe concedes.
They wander further, Max trailing behind as Chloe beats the ever-loving shit out of anything even vaguely breakable in her path.
“Remember when you actually played?” Max asks, after the fifteenth minute of uninterrupted smashing.
Chloe pauses, turning on her heel and drawing the bandage on her arm across her forehead to wipe away a bead of sweat. “Oh hell yeah. They called me The Destroyer.”
“No they didn’t,” Max rolls her eyes. “Only you called yourself that.”
“Me and both our dads,” Chloe points out. “Yours even made a sign.”
“Oh yeah,” Max laughs. “Y’know, I think you were the hockey hooligan kid he always wanted. I couldn’t tell if he was disappointed or relieved when I quit the team.”
Her dad was a huge hockey fan and had been elated when she and Chloe had agreed when he showed them the newspaper ad he’d found seeking players for the local youth hockey team. William and their mothers had been a little more hesitant, Max remembered, but no one enough to really object to their joining.
Chloe took to it immediately, aggressive, competitive, and already more naturally athletic than Max had ever been. Max’s tenure was only a week long, but she’d remained a devoted fan of the team long after, going along with her parents to every game, home and away.
“Relieved, I think,” Chloe speculates. “You were a really small twelve year old.”
“I was appropriately sized for twelve,” Max protests. “You were tall.”
“Pint-sized,” Chloe teases. “Microscopic. Besides, you never had the heart for it. The bloodlust.”
“I liked the skating part. But yeah, you always had more fun with it than me. Did you ever get back to sports?”
Chloe shakes her head, quick and jerky, almost offended. “I never liked sports. I liked hockey ‘cause you guys would always come to my games and stuff. But then…after…”
Chloe missed the first couple weeks of practice, after William had died. It was Max’s dad that got her to go back, at Joyce’s insistence, hoping that the sport could be an outlet, that trying to preserve as much normalcy as possible would help Chloe deal with her grief.
Max and her dad had stayed in the bleachers through that first practice without William. Chloe’s play had been sloppier, and she’d left the ice early, face splotchy and red, thick hot tears running down her face into her jersey. It hadn’t gotten easier from there. It made sense that Chloe had stopped going entirely once Max’s family had moved.
“Anyway, can you even imagine me playing for Blackwell?” Chloe scoffs, brings the hockey stick down on the windshield of an old beat up car. The first blow sends a spiderweb of cracks all through the glass. The second penetrates, a small, fist-sized hole. The third, fourth, and fifth obliterate it completely.
Max closes her eyes, chases the images of a young, grief-stricken Chloe from her mind with this new fantasy. Chloe, hair undyed, strutting through the halls in a red and white letterman jacket. Chloe doing keg stands with Logan and Zach. Chloe with girls like Victoria and Juliet hanging off her arms. Chloe completely and totally ignoring a nerd like her.
“Okay, it’s a little weird,” Max admits, feeling a little embarrassed for the irrational churning in her gut. “You’ve never really been a joiner, huh?”
“Organized sports are so not punk rock,” Chloe says obnoxiously.
“It’s kind of hard to imagine you at Blackwell at all,” Max admits. “I wish I’d come back sooner. Y’know, before you left.”
Chloe’s quiet and Max knew it was a risk to go there at all, but it feels too true to keep to herself so she keeps speaking.
“I didn’t choose to be gone, but,” is it brave or stupid to do this now, actually? Has Chloe been waiting for an apology or will this just make things needlessly awkward and uncomfortable and painful? “I mean I wish I’d handled it differently. That we’d talked more while I’d been away.”
“Yeah,” Chloe shrugs. It feels like Max is on the verge of losing her, so she hurries on before the silence between them stretches too far.
“Can I be honest with you?” Max asks, stomach twisting in knots.
Chloe raises an eyebrow and nods for her to continue.
“I kind of thought,” she pauses and winces. “I mean, I was a little afraid that after I left you just. Wouldn’t want anything to do with me. That you’d replace me.”
“Max, what the fuck?” Chloe lets the words out in a harsh exhale and Max knows that tone of voice. Knows she’s pissed off for real, now.
“I know,” Max cringes, scrubbing a hand down her face. “But, I mean, you were always the cool one, right? And you were going into high school and I was still sleeping with a teddy bear and—”
“This is such bullshit,” Chloe’s voice cracks and Max was not expecting that. “You’re not just— You can’t just replace a best friend! I fucking needed you. I was so… I needed you so much and you hung me out to dry because you were scared I’d stop thinking you were cool?”
“No,” Max hurries to clarify, feeling appropriately breathless for the desperate, drowning sensation overwhelming her. “No, not like that. I just… I didn’t know how to handle it. So, I just kept putting it off, y’know? Like with homework. Remember how many times my mom had to bail me out because I’d wait too long on finishing a project and it wouldn’t be ready by the due date? Only no one could bail me out this time. And the longer I waited, the worse I felt, the more sure I was that you hated me, that you’d scream at me and tell me to stay out of your life. And I was too scared to face that so I…”
“I never hated you,” Chloe says, face caught somewhere between fury and despair. “Fuck, for the longest time all I wanted was to leave here, to be where you were instead.”
“The night you called me,” Max cuts in gently, proud at least when her voice doesn’t shake, “when you tried to run away, I was so scared for you. And I felt guilty because I realized I was wrong, that you still wanted to be my friend, and I knew I didn’t deserve it. I cried myself sick on the ride down with my mom to pick you up. It really freaked her out. But when we got there you just hugged me and you let me hold your hand the entire way back to Arcadia Bay.”
Chloe stays silent, chewing her lip hard enough to make Max wince.
“And even after, even though we were talking again the entire time I was away I’d think about being back here instead. I think about all the years I missed with you and I get mad because it feels kind of like my fault. Like if I’d tried harder it wouldn’t have taken this long. But I can’t fix that now, I know, I’m just glad we’re here now.”
Chloe shakes her head, rough, and throws the beat up hockey stick into a pile behind her. “Max, you fucking—”
She cuts herself and stomps over and Max isn’t sure what she was expecting, but she’s definitely surprised when Chloe wraps her arms around her, drags her close until there’s almost no space between them.
As tight as the hug is, Chloe’s hands hovering over her back are gentle. She’s quiet but her breathing’s rough. It takes a long time for her to speak again; when she does her voice is shaky, quiet. “I never, ever hated you, but I was pissed at you for a really long time.”
“I’m sorry,” Max tries to say but Chloe squeezes her tighter until she falls quiet.
“I got tired of it,” Chloe says. “And it wasn’t fair, either. Not really. We were just kids. God, I fucked so many things up so much worse than that. You don’t know how bad. If you did, you’d think I’m so pathetic. You’d hate it.”
“Chloe Price, you’re so many things, but pathetic has never been one of them,” Max insists, a little startled by the steel in her voice. Chloe tenses in her arms, but doesn’t move away so Max continues, gentler, “I wish I’d been here more. I know you weren’t alone the whole time but still, if I could go back and change anything it’d be trying harder to be a bigger part of your life. It’d be not letting it take so long to get here.”
It’s stupid, she knows, it’s ridiculous to think she could have prevented any of the hard knocks Chloe had taken in her absence but the thing is she’ll never know and Max thinks that she’ll probably always feel responsible somehow.
“God, imagine if we’d had a few years together at Black-Hell,” Chloe says and releases her, finally. She stays close, pushes some hair out of Max’s face. “We would have gotten into so much trouble. Me, you and…” She trails off with a wince but doesn’t linger. “You could have cheated off my science papers. I’d trade you rides around the Bay for homework.”
“Hey,” Max laughs. “Presumptuous. How do you know I would have compromised my morals like that?”
“Oh, you would have,” Chloe says, laugh all low and breathy. “When have you ever been able to say no to these baby blues?”
She bats her lashes facetiously, but the blush staining Max’s face is very real. “Okay, whatever. What else would we have done?”
“Oh, pranks,” Chloe says. “No doubt. We would have pranked it up so hard on those nerds. I always had this idea about semi-permanent hair dye and Victoria’s shampoo bottles, but I never lived in the dorms. And for some reason, Rachel refuses to be my inside man on this one.”
“I’d be down,” Max blurts out, not sure what the sudden pained look on Chloe’s face could have been leading to, but desperate to head it off.
“Wait, for real?” Chloe asks, appropriately distracted and Max realizes suddenly that her hypothetical assent to collusion had just been offered in practice.
“Uh, I mean—”
“No take-backs,” Chloe crows, gleefully. “Holy shit, dude, yes. Okay, I’ve got it worked out pretty well, this is something I’ve been sitting on for a few years at least. First, we’ll need a distraction…”
Chloe’s plan is elaborate, but thorough, and by the time she’s done laying out the details Max isn’t sure she’ll be able to follow through, but she does know that whatever lingering doubts about their friendship she’d had this morning were founded in one-sided insecurity.
“Let me sleep on it,” she says, finally.
“Max,” Chloe whines. “You promised.”
“I did not.”
“I mean, practically.”
“No, I didn’t.”
It’s almost like being a kid again, arguing about something pointless under the midday sun, a little dehydrated but having too much fun together to do something sensible like go back inside. Max has missed this for so long.
She’s deliriously happy she won’t ever have to miss it again.

Title Tag Game
Was tagged by @rosecorcoranwrites in a tag game (courtesy @mvcreates, whoever that is) where you post your chapter titles and explain as much or as little as you want. Note that this is not a finalized list, since I’m still editing and I might decide to change a couple of them.
Decided to put them under a read-more, since this’ll be long.
1: Escape from the Tavern
Title comes from the Willow soundtrack. You probably know the scene, if you’ve seen it. Technically the one in my book is a caravanserai not a tavern, but it has a tavern, like a hotel-bar kind of thing. “Escape” is also a bit of a reach. (Yes, my protagonists meet in an inn. But one of them works there.)
2: The Journey Begins
Title comes from the soundtrack of the Ralph Bakshi The Lord of the Rings. In my story, is the chapter in which a character is introduced who was only overheard in the previous chapter. Not actually when the journey begins, since the person whose journey it is decides to go at the end of the previous chapter and they’re already on the road in this one. But I mean…semantics.
3: Night Bird
Title is from the Conan the Destroyer soundtrack. In my thing, actually refers to a deity, and by extension his followers.
4: Guide My Sword
Title comes from the soundtrack of The Princess Bride. It’s not…actually the sword that gets guided, except via, y’ know, the pinky of the left hand and the palm of the right one, in the traditional fashion.
5: Now That I’m a Woman
Title is from the soundtrack of The Last Unicorn. Involves a young girl getting ahead of herself, as young persons are wont to do.
6: Dragon’s Scales
Title is from the Dragonslayer soundtrack. Which is not a terribly good movie, but it comes under my mandate and the name is fitting. Chapter is about guess what creature sporting guess what integumentary appendage, though probably not in a context most would expect.
7: Wonders of an Ancient Glory
Title is from the Dragonheart soundtrack. As for what the chapter’s about…well there’s a civilization known to present-day humans as ‘the Ancients,’ I’ll leave it at that. (The nonhuman races don’t call them that because living, albeit elderly, elves and gnomes, and the deceased parents of elderly dwarves, were actually around to see their empire before it fell. The Ottoman Empire is not “the ancients”.)
8: Red Soup
Title is from the soundtrack of The Last Unicorn again. Chapter…is mostly not about soup, but there is soup in it, and it’s got paprika in it. So.
9: Underground
Title is from The Labyrinth (starting to detect the theme yet?); chapter involves discussion of subterranean things.
10: Leave Tomorrow till It Comes
Title is from the soundtrack of the Rankin-Bass The Return of the King. Chapter is mostly a transition and setup, reactive rather than active, for the villains.
11: The Search
Title’s from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack. Chapter is actually more about finding than searching. Nevertheless!
12: The Great Conjunction
Title is, of course, from The Dark Crystal soundtrack. Chapter is about two of the different plot-threads coming together.
13: The Dance
Title is from the Legend soundtrack. Chapter is about wicked machinations.
14: Recovery
TItle is from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack. Chapter title actually refers to…like…retrieving things, not physical recuperation.
15: As the World Falls Down
TItle is, of course, from The Labyrinth soundtrack. Chapter concerns the proverbial darkest hour.
16: Funny Little Things
Title is from the Rankin-Bass The Hobbit soundtrack, one of the songs with canonical lyrics. Further wicked machinations.
17: Night Court
Title’s from the Army of Darkness soundtrack. Involves the tables being turned on the villains.
18: Under Her Skin
Title comes from the Evil Dead 2 soundtrack. Involves the basic climax for the villains’ character arcs, but not for their plotline.
19: Into the Trap
Title is from the soundtrack of The Return of the Jedi. Chapter is about the villains’ plotting coming to fruition…but for how long?
20: Civilization
Title is from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack. Chapter involves the final confrontation with the villains.
21: The Return Home
Title is from A New Hope, although as a chapter title it refers to the ordinary context of that phrase, rather than the context in that movie (”who knew Star Wars was part of the Tales franchise”).
And no, having two songs from Star Wars doesn’t change what the theme of my chapter titles (“soundtracks of fantasy movies from the 1970s to the 1990s”) is. A story about the priests of the galaxy-soul who can call upon it to work wonders does not cease to be fantasy because it’s set in space.

Miis React to the Wiki Profiles Ep. 1: Polly
(If you’ve seen this blog in its more humble beginnings, I had a lot of Polly reactions, and for good reason. She is one of my favorite Miis in the Wii U/3DS/Switch era purely for how absolutely precious she is! Why limit the cuteness to just reaction images? Anywho, this series is for me to imagine what Miis would say or do when they see their fandom wiki page, and I’ll try to incorporate their appropriate cultures if explicitly stated. Enough talk though, let’s get started! Look up the Wii Party U CPUs and go to Polly for following along. It won’t let me keep the link in post. >:( -Admin)
Polly: Right then, what’ve I been dragged into? She sees the computer with the tab opened to the Fandom page. (Reading) “Wii Sports Wiki?” Is this a Meta universe?
Her face lights up in a big smile as her eyes scan her own Wiki.
Polly: *she gasps, clapping her hands* Oh, so it’s MY page? Yay! Does this mean it’s a reverse Isekai? Y’know, being put in a fantasy world, innit? ....Nevermind. Let’s see ‘ere...
Polly: (reading) “Polly, not to be confused with...Holly?” Why would someone confuse the two of us? One’s fugly, the other is me. *shrugs* But anyhow... (she continues) “In Boxing, she is a Grade *1, making her the second Pro Class Beginner-” After Rie, of course. “..In Tennis and Baseball, she is one of the best players at Grade *10 and is also a Pro.” See, this is why you pay attention to Polly. I’ll ‘ave you know, I’m at the top of my class in Tennis and Baseball, so I know how to hit people with objects. *sinister smirk* It’s FUUUN.
Polly: (continuing on) “In Wii Party U, Polly is a Master Mii.” Go back to my previous statement. “Trivia.” Right, so you people like doing this for fun? Aw, that much effort put into little ol’ me. <3 So there’s badge stuff and whatnot, but you fans don’t care about that? Neither do I. “She appears in Splatoon 2 as an Inkling” Coz they’re all cute, and yellow’s another of my favorite colors. “She appears on artwork...” blah blah, Yellow Pikmin, I couldn’t choose the color, but I like the yellow ones coz they’re also cute. *a big cheeky grin* “According to Mario Kart 8, she’s British.” Of course, I’m not some lame YANK swine. *she laughs, slowly turns to camera* WHY WOULD I BE?
Polly: Blah, Pro status stuff, and also Mario Maker 2 stuff. I wore a nice lil’ Nintendo shirt, (in a muffled breath) praise be to Lord Shigsy-san. “She’s the only Mii with that hair.” I dunno why I wear it like that, but I just do. :/ “In MK8, she often appears in the Kirby suit within the promotional art of the game..-” YES. Kirby is my Boyo who goes Poyo. Look at all of my items in the back there, I love him. He just goes (in Kirby-esque voice) Poyo! Poyo! Poyo! *pulls out her phone* KiRbY’S CaLLiNG ThE PoLicE.
Polly scrolls down to the pictures of herself.
Polly: *clapping again* Oh, there’s loads of pictures! Yay! Ok, what’s this? *clicks on a picture of Miitopia couple Polly and Alphonse, face drops, and she grabs her phone again* POLLY’S CALLING THE POLICE! (you already know what this is - Admin)
Polly: Now what’s this one here? A picture of Polly with Millie shows up, and she gets a bright red blush across her entire face. Clutching her chest, she starts to randomly smile and get giggly, covers her face with her hands. We hear a slightly muffled squeal before she uncovers her completely red face. C-Can I...Keep this picture? Please? I-I-I...Just think this is really nice an’... STOP WINDING ME UP! *frantically clicks around and saves the photo* Ok, Next?
Tumblr media
Polly: *clicks on Kirby racing suit pic* Seeeee? I love Kirby to pieces! I mean I’d do lots for more Kirby stuff, but not anything....
Tumblr media
Polly: And another Miitopia set, but this time not cursed. This one has me in a tank? It’s that fairy dance, but instead it’s POLLY TANK TIME.
Tumblr media
Polly: And now I’m an elven girl...? In Faustine’s Adventure? *scrolls through her phone* Does she even know about this Wiki’s existence, or the fact that someone made an adventure for her? Right, I think I’ll let her know.
She calls up Faustine, pulling up the [Miitopia video]. After a while of ringing, the phone finally picks up while the video plays.
Faustine: (on the phone) Hello? Polly? Is something wrong?
Polly: No, no. I just found something very interesting. Do you know about this bloody Wii Sports Wiki? Where we’ve all got profiles and mugshots?
Faustine: *a beat, then clicking and typing in the background* I’m gonna look this up, this Wii Sports Wiki... Why do you ask? Do they have unflattering shots of me?? Cease and Desist time??
Polly: Wait! Don’t do that, just look yourself up, you won’t be disappointed. I’ll call you back though. Bye!
Faustine: ...OK...bye?
She hangs up the phone and scrolls further down, seeing the comments section FILLED.
Polly: Wow, there’s even comments on us here. What do they even say? “Is she the only Mii with a side ponytail? Yes.” I don’t know anyone else who has one...? “Her favorite color is...brown?” Unless you mean that absolute Karen, Claudia, then yes, you’re right. But, uhhhh... *she gestures to her black dress she is wearing* Not me. Sorry. “She needs to go to fashion jail for that side ponytail” *gets a bit teary* ...Why? I like it this way. I’ve always worn it like this, I thought it looked okay... “Smelly Socks of Molly Shiting?” What immature child does that? Geez.. *now she’s sad*
Polly: Well, looks like that’s the gist of everything, and everyone else finds me very very cute. :) Thanks for having me read this article! It’s been a ride, I guess. But now, I’m gonna cry over that picture with Millie... OH MY GOD THE VIDEO HAS HER TOO-!
End.
I hope you all enjoyed this, please let me know if you like this kind of stuff by giving me feedback, and stay tuned for more. (I’m either gonna go with Faustine, Millie or Matt the Wuhu Island Destroyer. Likely Faustine due to the setup...)

The Jackal.
Tumblr media
The sun crept over the horizon, bathing Ala Ghiri in unrelenting light. Gyr Abania always was an unforgiving place. The climate and the wildlife seemed hell-bent on making things as difficult for the indigenous people. It was a tough life, but it made them hardy folk. Even with what felt like his entrails spilling from the wound across his gut, the Seeker dwelled on this. He was long past pain. Perhaps this was the Destroyer rewarding his failure. A singular, rasping breath forced its way from chapped lips, the strength to speak having since abandoned him. All that lay before him now was his death.
Two bells earlier. “J’agoh!”
The voice called out across hastily constructed barricades, a pair of mottled ears perking up and tilting in the direction of the call. J’agoh was of average build and height for one of his kind, sporting an impressive mane of black hair and a pair of piercing yellow eyes – bright as the sun, some had said. Approaching him was a Hellsguard who wore the telltale marks of battle: a wound here, a scar there, bloodied bandages and countless scabs, bruises and lesions. J’agoh shot the man a tired grimace, sinking the blade of his spear into the dirt and leaning on the shaft for support. “Griffon, you bastard. Just how long did you expect us to last without you? I thought Yorrick was about to piss his pants without you around.”
Raging Griffon burst out into a bout of uproarious laughter, one which was cut short by a sudden bout of hacking. Blood flecked his lips as he spoke, the strain all too obvious on his face. He was large and loud, always so full of life and never too far away from his trusted axe. The stories behind it were ever changing. Some days it was won in a bet with somebody from the Far East, others it was forged from a shard of metal which fell from the sky. Truthfully, it was a gaudy thing, but one which suited its owner.
“An’ what of Mhaka, huh? Surprised you can even focus with her waving her tail at you the whole time.” “J’mhaka is a fine fighter and you would do well to remember that.”
J’agoh’s face twisted into a sneer, the sweat and dirt beading his brow. J’mhaka was like a sister to him, and one of the finest archers that his tribe had been able to muster up in the past few sennights. Her hair was dark, like his, but where his hung straight, hers was a wild and tangled mess. She was just as much a fighter as anyone else in the group, and he would not allow any to reduce her to just something pleasant to look at. Everybody in the party was capable, each in their own way. Griffon was by far the eldest of the group, followed by Willhelm and then himself. Next came J’mhaka and finally Yorrick, who was himself barely into adulthood. But times were tough. It was in times such as these that boys were made into men, forged in the crucible of war. Friendships strained, lives came to an end, but all had their part to play.
Raging Griffon raised a hand as if to retort when a sudden burst of air pressure knocked them off of their feet, a cannonade ringing out and smashing into the walls of the town around them. Great chunks of masonry were torn asunder, the bodies of men and women being thrown left and right from the sheer force of a barrage. J’agoh’s ears rang and his eyeballs rattled in his skull, vision blurry and unfocused. Voices cried out across the ramparts as defenders returned fire, opening with a volley of shots. A strong arm scooped him up and brought him to his feet, a smaller hand began to bat at his face. Willhelm and Yorrick. The younger of the two was far more optimistic, but even that had its limits. Fear darkened his features, a messy crop of blonde hair spilling over blue eyes. J’agoh always hated that. If he had it his way, the boy would have had his hair long since shaved off. Willhelm however was far larger. Built like a solid brick spire but with an intelligence that belied his years. The man had every chance to excel at the Temple but instead chose a life of apostasy, seeking comfort in his own truths about the world and the way of things.
“Rhalgr’s blood, J’agoh, your spear! Get your spear, they’re coming!” “An assault before dawn… They know we’re up against the wall.” “What do we do?! What do WE DO!?”
J’agoh’s hands came up from his sides and grasped Yorrick’s face, pulling the man’s forehead to his. With fangs borne and his voice low, he spoke as clearly as his body would let him. “Yorrick, you will listen. Bring me my spear, you will stand alongside me, yes? With Griffon, and Willhelm, and J’mhaka and all the others as a true son of Ala Mhigo. If Rhalgr wills your last breath be in this place, then so be it.”
Another impact rocked the barricades. Another fighter lay screaming as he came to, only to find his legs had been torn away from him, leaving bloody stumps where his limbs had once been. His comrades sought to staunch the bleeding but to no avail, the sand now slick with viscera and gore. This was where they would die. To the last man. Raging Griffon took up his axe in one hand and screamed at the top of his lungs, carrying his voice as far as it could go through the chaos. Others joined, with J’mhaka calling out from the rooftops. She was in poor shape, limping and bloodied but far from done. Willhelm held his nerve. Yorrick’s armor was stained with vomit, his sword arm trembling.
“Men, women! This is where we make our stand! Deny them! Bleed them for every step! Make them regret every foot they push forwards in our homeland!”
J’agoh’s hand sought his spear, his torso propped up against the barricade. Yes. They knew they couldn’t win, but he’d be damned if he wasn’t going down without a fight. His only wish in that moment was for his glaive, his trusted weapon which had seen him through all of these years… If only he’d not left it with her. He took his place, both hands gliding along the rough wooden length of the weapon, getting to grips with the thing whilst his mind drifted. In this brief moment of respite, he dared to think. The Gods could afford him his fantasies and desires for but a little longer. The end would wait.
