This reminds me of the Farscape episode "Out of Their Minds" when we see just how much Chiana & D'Argo struggle to function in Pilot's body because of the sheer volume of information & tasks he has to process All. The. Time since he's bonded with Moya.
Body swap movie where one of them has invisible disabilities and when the other one lands in their body they immediately collapse catatonic on the floor from the pain and fatigue and the first one is like 'oh damn guess I don't have to worry that I'm faking it anymore'

Josh Levy - Teddy Bear with a Lightsaber
He's not fat.. okay he's fat AND he's big boned.
Tumblr media
Joshua “Josh” Aaron Levy [05/04/80] Secretary of Science Fiction AOL / Online Users: [JediJunkies_80] Theme Songs: Science Fiction Double Feature - Me First and Gimmie Gimmies | Ghost - Mystery Skulls | Aliens Exist - blink-182
Favorite Shit: Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Twilight Zone, Kaiju, Stargate SG-1 Battlestar Galactica, Klingon, Alternate Earths, Firefly, Planet of the Apes, 12” Action Figures, Torrent Sites, The X-Files, Babylon 5, Akira, Farscape, Boba Fett
Despite his (well earned) grievances, he still hangs around these fuckers cause he can't really seem to find solace anywhere else, even online spaces. He didn't expect to find any enjoyment out of going to tournaments with Jerry, but an excuse to get good city food and walk around the comic shops they were held in were enough in his book to keep him coming back. He even managed to find a space themed tabletop he likes to play, and... y'know.. maybe other reasons..
But we don't talk about him shit uh IT UH--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Never tell me the odds.
Oh Joshybear my beloved you poor antagonistic shitsmear.
His mom is in the hospital a lot more often or just straight up bed bound, which makes him kind of never want to leave his room out of guilt.
Yes, this dingus still blames himself for it, though it's not like his father helps with that.
Whenever he isn't holed up in his room, he's trying to drag somebody anybody out of the house to do something. Anything to get his mind off of stupid emotional shit--
He often goes with Jerry into the inner city when he has tournaments, especially when nobody else really wants to go. Sometimes he even covers Jerry bus fair or just borrows his mom's car.
However, this fucker HATES driving. It makes him the most anxious he's ever been his entire life. It is nothing like video games and it is nothing like the Millennium Falcon, that's for damn certain.
He also hates trying to park because he is deathly afraid of hitting the side of someone's car with the door.
Josh actually doesn't meet Matt at the same time as Jerry, surprisingly enough. Jerry introduces them when they bump into each other at the shop for a non-tournament related reason.
Josh nearly had a panic attack on the spot but it's fine
The moment he heard Matt had never seen the Star Wars films he nearly lost his mind.
This became the entire basis of Josh's attachment to the dude: "I have to show him the cinematic masterpiece that is this damn franchise."
And that's all it is. Mhmm. Totally. Don't ask why his hands are clammy and he's even more show-offy than normal whenever he's around. Don't.
please?
He works with his dad at their Synagogue as essentially a secretary and sound technician, but hey, it lets him write his fanfictions Reimaginings and scroll through blogs in peace, right?
And it keeps him out of his dad's hair and the house, so it's kind of a win-win-win.. win?
Tumblr media
I love him
I want to eat him.
A DOUBLE POST???? HJGDSAJKHDKSJALHDLK You're welcome
Tumblr media
Also don't worry guys, you'll get a WHOLE lot more info on Matt soon. He's not an affiliated member of the club and I didn't have many drawings of him (despite my.. excessive notes...) so I'm cranking them out as I post this.
NOW LOVE THE BIG MAN ON CAMPUS DAMNIT.
also hi I know his pants look weird shut up nothing else looked better.

Do y'all remember the era of late 90s early 2000s fantasy/sci fi/adventure television that perfectly blended camp with, I'm going to rip your heart out and you're going to like it?
Merlin, Xena, Buffy, Legend of the Seeker, Farscape, Doctor Who reboot #1, The Tenth Kingdom, Wonderfalls, Star trek
Just a few that spring to mind. It seems like current television wants to choose whether they are goofy or dramatic, why don't you put your hands together?

John Crichton really did lose his entire mind on Farscape. Shout out to a show that kept it uncomfortably real about behavior under incomprehensible, life-threatening situations. I think everyone in the cast said "they're probably dead, leave their ass behind," about everyone else at least twice.

So, Veilguard was bad and Dragon Age is probably done forever. What now?
If you, like me, spent the past ten years in anticipation of the next instalment of your favourite series of all time, and were then grossly and horrifically let down by what we ended up getting, you're probably feeling pretty bummed out right now. You might be wondering if anything out there will ever make you feel how Dragon Age did, and may be at a loss for what media to develop unhealthy levels of attachment to next.
With that in mind, I have compiled a list of my own personal, 100% Dragon Age fan-certified recs across media of all types. In the interest of presenting these in a way that feels more relevant in comparison to Dragon Age itself, I will not be grouping them in any kind of logical category but will instead be going purely off Vibes. I will also not be listing in detail certain titles that I think are too well-known to be useful in this list - namely Bioware's other games, among others. I will give brief mention of these, but I want to focus on less widely-known properties, or things that you may have heard of but have not seen recommendation for specifically from a fellow DA fan.
I may be updating this list further if I find something good to add, or if I think of something I hadn't before. And if you have further recs not present here, please feel free to reblog with your own additions!
Vibe #1: Good ol' High Fantasy
This category pertains to works that fall under the same broad genre definitions as Dragon Age, with similar overarching tones and themes. Not listed: Baldur's Gate 3, The Elder Scrolls, Avatar: TLA.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 (Video Game) - Easily my top pick for other RPGs that elicit the big world stakes and sweeping plot of DAI. There's even an EXTREMELY Solas-coded character who I won't spoil but let's just say as a Solas enjoyer myself they did absolutely nothing wrong and I would die for them. D:OS 1 is very good too, but they are both standalone stories and 2 has more of the DA feel than 1, so it takes the place on this list.
Unsounded (Webcomic) - This one hits so many DA boxes while at the same time being something extremely unique in itself. It's got deep, multifaceted characters. It's got a fascinating world and huge amounts of fantasy politics. It's got humour interposed with horror and tragedy with neither undercutting the other. It's got not one, but TWO extremely pathetic war criminal dads, who somehow are constantly at odds with each other and yet are forced together into Situations nonetheless. And it's free! Go read it right now, there's absolutely nothing stopping you.
Bone (Comic Series) - This is almost a reverse-recommendation in a sense, because I read it years before Dragon Age ever existed and is probably one of the reasons why I was drawn to DA in the first place. It's epic, sprawling fantasy but constantly grounded in the small, personal stakes of it all. Imagine an isekai but the isekai'd are from a pseudo-modern maximalist cartoon land and have been thrust into a gritty medieval fantasy. Don't let the jokes and the goofy main characters throw you though because this series gets dark.
Vibe #2: Found Family
If your favourite part of Dragon Age is the character dynamics, and you don't particularly care about genre trappings, this is the section for you. Not listed: Mass Effect, KOTOR
Farscape (TV Series) - Oh my god I am begging you, imploring you, to PLEASE watch Farscape. David Gaider has said before that he loves the show, and it's the reason Claudia Black became the voice of Morrigan. If that isn't enough of an endorsement for you, it also has THE MOST fucked up little blorbos the world has ever seen. Literally nothing, and I mean nothing, comes close to the wet cat/kicked puppy energy that these characters exhibit, and what's more 50% of them are dressed in early 2000s tight leather getups 24/7 while the other 50% are composed of the most incredible puppetwork and prosthetics you've ever laid eyes on.
Unavowed (Video Game) - This is a point-and-click adventure game about a team of supernatural investigators, and for such a relatively small indie game compared to the likes of DA, it does a hell of a job creating compelling and complex characters who you get to know and love. The opening act of the game has a bit where a monster rips someone's face off, and yet there is something so cozy about it I just can't explain.
Aurora (Webcomic) - This one has all the good found family vibes, with a cast of characters that each has their own Deal, who bicker and squabble incessantly but manage to pull together when it really matters. And when they don't, you can be sure they will Get Into It with themselves, and with each other. It's got tons of heart and soul, gorgeous colour work, and is also totally free!
Vibe #3: Worldbuilding & Political Machinations
If you love digging into theories and lore, and appreciate stories with complex fantasy politics, look no further than here. Not listed: The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Fallout: New Vegas
Pillars of Eternity (Video Game) - This is a broad rec for both Pillars games (and hopefully, if it ends up being good, the upcoming Avowed). While the gameplay is on the whole more difficult to get into and there isn't as much time dedicated to party members as in DA, PoE1 has some of the tightest, most well-thought out lore I've encountered. If the factions of DATV were a huge disappointment to you, PoE2's main focus is a handful of incredibly complex ones that pose you genuinely difficult questions about ethics and morality. Also like half the characters are voiced by Matt Mercer, it's great.
The Wheel of Time (Book Series) - The reason I didn't put this under Vibe #1, despite it being solid high fantasy, is that I didn't connect so much with the story and plot developments as much as I did the worldbuilding and politics of the series. Fair warning, this rec does come with several giant asterisks, as it is notorious for having infuriating characters and baffling gender dynamics, but if you are able to look past all the weirdness, you'll find what was clearly a lot of the inspiration for DA's world underneath. The recent TV show is... a mixed bag, but probably the only alternative to reading fourteen tome-sized books if you don't have the stomach for that.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (Video Game) - You've probably seen this one recommended before, but if you're having a hard time getting past the early 2000s graphics and weird engine jank, let me assure you that it is well worth the hassle. There are lots of games out there that try to make you feel like a pawn in someone's greater plan, but none of them come close to matching what VTMB managed. If you like your politics and scheming more personal and visceral than grand and world-spanning, with excellent roleplaying options to back them up, this is the game for you.
Vibe #4: Fucked Up People in a Fucked Up World
This one is easily the most "hear me out, bro" category, but if Dragon Age 2 specifically is your jam, and you crave more Kirkwall energy and Greek tragedy in your life, I have a feeling you will really like these. Not listed: Arcane, Disco Elysium
Dishonored (Video Game) - This one has always been a tough sell, because despite it being, imo, one of the best designed games of all time, the way it was marketed makes it seem like a real Gamer's game, with super epic stealth powers! And badass kill animations! But behind all that, you'll find some of the most Characters of all time, including a soggy wet twink god who gives you magic powers but will be such a little bitch about it. The whole thing is steeped in potent atmosphere and incredible worldbuilding. Also everyone is gay.
Planescape: Torment (Video Game) - This is widely considered one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and though you have to deal with a fair amount of jank and perhaps a little more reading than you'd like in a video game, the design and atmosphere of Sigil alone make it worthwhile. Then there's the cast of characters, most of which are like two bad days away from becoming a supervillain and all of whom hate each others' guts. Need I say more?
The Magnus Archives (Podcast) - TMA is definitely not for all DA fans, but if your favourite part of DAO was the broodmother section, and you really enjoyed the slowly unfolding tragedy of Kirkwall and the feeling of Hawke being doomed by the narrative, you might find yourself hooked, as I did. There are also some extremely good characters in here, all uniquely fucked up in their own way, and getting to know them in between the main segments of episodes was the definite highlight for me.
That's all for now, and again, if you'd like to add to this list, please be my guest! There are a handful of things I think would probably fit here but I haven't watched/played/read yet, so if you think something extremely obvious is missing, that's most likely why.

My Favorite Detail in Farscape is [Spoilers!]
Ok for real spoilers for the entire show including Peacekeeper Wars, so I'll put a gif here and you all agree to scroll on past if you don't want spoilers for a show that ended in 2004.
Tumblr media
Ok, so for everyone still here, my all-time favorite detail in Farscape is one that I didn't catch until my second watch-through, and I don't think it's common knowledge in the fandom. (Edit: apparently it's more commonly known about then I realized! Obviously this is because Farscape fans are keen-eyed and insightful and starved for content lol). It's certainly never mentioned or pointed out in the show itself. But it's just so perfect that I get giddy everytime I think about it.
So after Crichton gets twinned, in "Thanks for Sharing," Crichton A gets injured in the bar explosion on that planet that puts lobsters on your head. He is left with a cut above his left eyebrow, and the resulting scar can be used to tell the two Crichtons apart for the rest of season 3 (Crichton A is the one on Talyn with Aeryn).
Tumblr media
Wound in "Thanks for Sharing"
Tumblr media
Scar visible on Crichton A
Tumblr media
No scar on Crichton B aboard Moya.
(Also frell me it's hard getting clear pics / gifs for this show somebody get on that)
Anyway, the scar/injury is never really addressed after that first episode, it's just a super-subtle costuming detail that shows the two Crichtons are now living separate lives. Crichton A then dies after finally achieving everything he ever wanted, Aeryn is heartbroken, drama ensues. The question is raised and discussed often, with much angst: which Crichton was the real one? Did Aeryn fall in love with the original or the copy?
Tumblr media
Of course, Crichton B eventually accepts that they were both "him" and yet both individuals too, and Aeryn eventually says "There is no longer any difference in my mind." So it's resolved, mostly.
BUT.
2.5 seasons later, at the end of "The Peacekeeper Wars" Crichton B finally activates the wormhole weapon. After Einstein unlocks the knowledge for him, he returns to Moya bloody and hurt. And for the rest of the movie, he has a wound, and then a scar--a small cut above his left eyebrow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's never mentioned. It happens right near the end, when obviously a lot of other things are going on. It's really, super easy to miss. But I think it's amazing. They both really were the real Crichton. And even when they split and began leading separate lives--their destiny was still the same. The timelines reunited, kinda, or two separate possible outcomes synced up. It's such a beautiful, perfect bow to wrap up one of the most emotionally powerful arcs in the show. I just love it. Farscape really is in a league of its own.

I have this COD au sorta thing floating in my head that started a little because of @girl-lostconnection s helldiver au. And @ghouljams cyberpunk au stuff. Also based on my favorite Milf/ my biggest hear me out, Moya from farscape, she is a living spaceship! Love her. Also inspired by that one episode of Dr who where humanity escaped earth on the back of a space whale and made a city on its back, but it was in constant pain, haven't actually seen the full episode, just clips.
So the idea is that reader, is a giant space alien, like the space whale just sorta swims though space, reader is caught and transformed into a space ship. Like she is still living, aware of everything in her body. She is of course PISSED about this. There is alot of lore to a lead up but she eventually acquires a human body. She is still connected to her original body, (body stealing was mutual dw) but she has more human emotions now. It has to be kept a secrete that she is the ship and that the ship is alive. In comes the 141 (when they first arrive her human body is somewhere else, she can still control and see though her original body tho) she dosnt like them at first, but an ai that has been attached to her makes it so she can't say anything or do anything to them. Price is the captian ofc, Gaz I think would be the pilot (up for debate) Ghost would be second in command and in charge of wepons, and Soap would be the mechanic. The trope is that soap talks to the ship like it's alive (it is but he dosnt know it yet) and worst of all, he flirts with the ship. And flirts with the others though flirting with the ship. So she starts to get a soft spot for this idiot. Something happens (spoilers if I decide to actually write this out) and she breaks though the ai holding her back and soap is the first one to notice how the ship seems to have more personality now, gaz notices the ai sounds less....ai like. They dock back at home base and after leave they come back to a woman now living in the ship. Laswell tells them that she is like a live in mechanic that she "knows the ship better than anyone" soap is ecstatic about "the Bonnie lass" who will be helping him out. Ghost is Ghost, price is apprehensive, gaz is neutral. Shenanigans ensue, reader trying to keep it a secret that she is the ship while having to deal with soap caressing her insides all gentle like and flirting, (it causes some bulbs to pop and pipes to burst lol) all of them bonding, attacks from enemies or pirates, reader trying to ignore when the 141 bang each other and stuff like that. There is an eventual reveal that she is, in fact, the ship and now that they know they have to go on the run, eventual smut that leads to the ship short circuiting (lol) weird living mechanics, and shit like that.
I don't know if I'm going to write this or not, I love the idea, and I have specific scenes in mind, but I don't know if I have the brain power or the motivation to write it.

ik there's way too much going on in farscape to ever just lose your mind about one thing but fr right now i can't stop thinking about the fact that when talyn gets really scared and or pissed off he puppeteers crais's body and if crais tries to fight back IT CAUSES HIM PHYSICAL AGONY AND HE'S COVERED IN SCARS FROM DOING SO. what the FUCK. you kidnap a baby spaceship and raise it as your own but it gets so big and strong it starts beating the shit out of you when you don't do what it wants? and you still love it and want to take care of it? and you're trying to do right by it because it's your fault it exists in this unnatural state, the state you chose for it? and you were pressganged by a fascist military as a child? im losing my fucking mind

I know Captain America 4 is out right now. I know everyone is excited for MCU version of Fantastic Four. But for me this is the MCU movie of the year I'm most excited about.
I'm always more into team movies then a single superhero ones and I love this kind of bunch of misfits stack together must safe the day thing. I know what I like and I like this kind of Farscape set up. This is exactly why Guardians of the Galaxy movies are top of MCU for me (Gunn admitted Farscape was his inspiration) and what made last The Suicide Squad so fun. I can watch iterations of this kind of thing again and again and this one looks fun too.
It helps I already like these people. We already met all of them. We know they are at best hero adjacent except Bucky and even he spent most of his life as brainwashed assassin. They are child soldiers and washed-up wannabes.
Family dynamics was the best parts of the Black Widow movie and I love Yelena's and Alexei's dynamic. He abandoned her and Natasha to Red Room. And then acted like it was nothing. He he's washed out and . And he isn't even her real that. She could move on and never see him again. But she already lost Natasha forever (she couldn't even say goodbye) and he is always happy to see her. He actually cares. And he's the only dad remembers having. Already more than other black widows. Certainly better than what Antonia had.
I'm also a very weird person who loves Ant-Man and the Wasp. It's my favourite movie in that series (and one of my top MCU movies). One of the things I loved about it the most is that Ava wasn't really a villain. That in the end the story is about saving her (the goal of both her side and, eventually, the heroes). The only reason she and the heroes are at odds is because she doesn't know how to trust people. The last ones, who were to help her heal, used her. Another child made assassin because she was more useful this way. She is the only one in the team not touched by the super soldier serum programs but she ended up the same way. There are three women (officially) in this team and all of them were child soldiers.
At least SHIELD/Hydra just used her condition to coerce her to their biding. She was free to hate them for it. Yelena and Antonia had their free will taken away from them. Just like Bucky. Free will is annoying in your assassins. They can change their minds like Natasha did.
And, of course, both Alexei and John Walker both wanted to be heroes. They were to be symbols for their countries. Perfect propaganda tools. But it didn't work out and they were both disgraced, discarded, and stuffed somewhere they wouldn't be seen. Bucky's fall from grace wasn't his doing. All of them are some version of supersoldier serum so all live in shadow of Steve Rogers but he was the only one close to living up to it. At least on his own. Unlike the other two he didn't agree to be used ass a tool for achieving goals of his handlers. His trajectory is exactly opposite of theirs since he people who controlled him were responsible for all the wrongs of Winter Soldier. He gets to be the hero (and apparently a congressman - he's the right age for it). Their dreams were dashed and a lot of it is their own faults. This is their shot at redemption.
I'm also excited that they will be dealing with a threat they are badly equipped to handle. This is not a spy or political thriller kind of villain. This is a threat that should be handled by people with power levels of Dr Strange or Thor or Captain Marvel. By all accounts they have to fail trying to fight it. So I hope this means less CGI explosion fest as a solution and more of some clever way of getting to him. Maybe something like Ant-Man and the Wasp.

On a more serious note, now that I’m halfway into Farscape season 1, I can’t help but think about Peter Quill/Star-Lord from “Guardians of the Galaxy” being a lesser John Crichton. Because, as I’ve written before, James Gunn was so obviously inspired by Farscape:
1) John and Peter are the good ole American protagonists who were taken to deep space against their will. They connect with people through pop culture references and their good heart.
2) Aeryn Sun and Gamora are the stone cold warriors who used to fight for the bad guys but are now on the side of good. They also have a romance with John/Peter.
3) Ka D’Argo and Drax are the proud warriors who are seeking to redeem themselves. They also are so stiff that references and simple sayings go over their heads.
4) Rygel is sorta kinda like Rocket Raccoon in that they’re the scheming loudmouths who look out for themselves.
5) Pilot and Groot fulfill the role of the lovable support character who helps everyone in the crew.
6) Zotoh Zhaan doesn’t have a perfect GOTG counterpart, but I really do feel that James Gunn split her traits between Nebula (who got the rage and tragic backstory) and Mantis (who got the mind powers).
Anyways, back to the main point. While Peter Quill does come off as a John clone, I think the way John’s arc was handled was superior to the way Peter was written. I think the main reason is that I can see why John would be his crew’s leader (or, at least, the crewmate keeping everything together) while Peter feels like he’s the leader because the plot says he should be.
John starts off as the goofball who can’t do anything right. No one trusts him and they think of him as the idiot who they just keep around. But as season 1 goes on, you can tell that he’s the glue who’s keeping the crew together. He’s the crewmate who got everyone to open up, especially Aeryn (who was trained to be cold and emotionless) and D’Argo (who distrusts everyone because of his traumatic past). He’s like that one friend who you feel like you can talk to about anything, especially since everyone else in the crew is dealing with their own problems.
So when we get to the episode where John is ready to leave, it makes sense that everyone feels hesitant to see him go. Aeryn is starting to fall for him, he was one of the few people who D’Argo would consider a friend, he helped Zhaan through some of her toughest times, and he generally got along with Rygel.
As for Peter Quill, I’m not saying he was badly written. It’s just him being treated as the team’s leader is not as believable. It’s like, imagine if John Crichton was written to be as emotionally closed off and standoffish as everyone else in the crew. While this does make Peter stand out as his own character separate from John, it also makes you wonder why Quill was written as the team’s leader. I’m sure that’s why it was a recurring gag that Quill was always struggling to be seen as the leader, whether it was from Rocket or Thor. The writers knew that wasn’t 100% believable, so they wrote it into the story.
I don’t get that with John. He might be the resident goofball, but he’s also why the crew hasn’t fallen apart.
TL;DR Peter Quill/Star-Lord was obviously modeled after John Crichton. But the MCU character who feels more in line with John as a character is Clint Barton/Hawkeye.

A crackship fanart that I put way too much thought and work into.
Pilot x Chiana from Farscape
This is the moment that kicks off their relationship, at least, in my mind. Chiana can not sleep, so she wanders the halls of Moya while the rest of the crew is sleeping away. The ever dutiful Pilot is awake as always, working at the command console where he is connected to the leviathan.
Chiana ends up wandering into the Pilot's den. Feeling lonely, she walks over and sits beside him and the two spend some time just idly chatting, a conversation just for the sake of conversation. Once her loneliness subsides, she feels comfortable enough to fall asleep on Pilot.
He's rather surprised by this, but he is quite dutiful so he goes back to his duties at the console. But, gently, so as not to wake her up.
These late night talks end up being what causes a slow bond to grow between them over time, though neither of them recognize it for quite a while.
This ship honestly works. Chiana needs a grounded, accepting and kind person in her life, and Pilot needs a free spirit that stands up for him and encourages him to stand up for himself. (Granted, this is later season Chiana, after she's been through a bit of a character arc, probably late season 3 or 4, and most of their relationship would actually take place after the events in Peacekeeper Wars with some AU fun thrown in.
The crew would consist of Crichton, Aeryn, their child, Chiana, Noranti, Jool, D'argo (He gets to live in my AU xD) and occasionally Stark, and an Eidolon who helps them spread peace. Still working on the Eidolon… but Stark would be there helping them learn the skills he absorbed from the ancient Eidolon that he helped cross over in the Scarran ship in Peacekeeper Wars.
I haven't gotten it all worked out yet, and probably won't finish it. But I have so many ideas for these two. xD
