Hello and welcome to my 2023 reading wrap up! A big Thank You to everyone who followed my ramblings throughout the year! <3 I will continue through 2024. Maybe I'll learn how to write proper reviews, at least I'll try to remember better what I actually want to say about the stories.
In 2022, I read 93 books plus my own. Guess how many it were in 2023? 93 plus my own!! xD That was huge coincidence and I love it.
Of these 94 books, 4 are rereads (which won't be included in the "Favourite" sections), 2 are non-fiction, 11 are non-queer. I only DNFed 1 book (which is not pictured) and other than that I only disliked 6 books! (And it's a pretty soft dislike in comparison. I don't hate them nearly enough to want to shit on them again. :'D).
So on the the awards!
Most Read Author:
KJ Charles (8 books)
Least Favourite Book:
Daresh (Katja Brandis) (the one I could not finish for dear life)
Favourite Character:
Brand (The Tarot Sequence) and Will (The Will Darling Adventures) (yes, there's a trend)
Favourite Covers (of books I read, not releases):
(There were too many. D:)
Highest Emotional Investment (aka The Agony, the suffering, the why you do this to me Award):
Dark Heir - The Scottish Boy - In Memoriam
Wildest Story:
The Adventures of Pinocchio
Favourite Books:
The Devil's Luck (L.S. Baird)
The Scottish Boy (Alex de Campi)
In Memoriam (Alice Winn)
Just Lizzie (Karen Wilfried)
Dark Heir (C.S. Pacat)
The Will Darling Adventures (KJ Charles)
Gwen & Art are not in Love (Lex Croucher)
The Buried and the Bound (Rochelle Hassan)
More Books I enjoyed greatly:
Oracle of Senders series (Mere Joyce)
Of Feathers and Thorns (Kit Vincent)
Wren Martin Ruins it all (Amanda deWitt)
Simon Snow series (Rainbow Rowell)
The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley (Shaun David Hutchinson)
The Tarot Sequence (K.D. Edwards)
The First and Last Adventure of Kit Sawyer (S.E. Harmon)
Sixteen Souls (Rosie Talbot)
By any Other Name (Erin Cotter)
The High King's Golden Tongue (Megan Derr)
and more!!
Most Used Name:
I counted names last year and didn't want to do it again this year because I read so much fantasy, so the names were all over. Still, there was one who stood out amongst them all with at least 4 instances, if not more. Probably more.
Will
Congratulations.
I have to admit, I've always liked that name. My favourite character of all times and part of my one and only OTP is named Will as well and I kinda hope the last book of their second trilogy never comes because it will probably make me scream and ... ...
Bonus!
This year, I counted pages! Because I felt that most books were much shorter than what I read before. So I wanted to know. Turns out, my feeling was wrong. My 93 books had a whole of 33011 pages which results in approximately 350 pages per book. That's pretty normal I dare say.
That's it for 2023!
I had a very good year in books. I wanted to read less actually, and failed spectacularly because I had too much fun. And if anyone's wondering how I read so much, I read fast and I just didn't do anything else in my free time. Escapism to the max.
I hope, the new year treats you well! I hope, you have fun with the books you read! Let's meet again soon! <3

Booklr, your LGBTQ+ book club recs please!
What are your favorite backlist, underrated, or obscure LGBTQ+ reads? The more diverse the better!
I’m part of a patron-led LGBTQ+ bookclub at one of my local libraries, and after a full year our book list is in need of a refresh. I’ve proven very bad at helping with this, as I’ve either read all the things or am too impatient to wait for it to get picked, lol.
The group is 18+ and open to all genres, but we are specifically NOT looking for YA, romance novels, or books with lots of queer trauma. Self-pub is also out for library-access reasons. Some of our favorite picks so far were My Volcano, Genderqueer, The Song of Achilles, and The Heartbreak Bakery. It doesn’t need to be a 4-5 star read, as long as it can foster good discussion!

One of my favorite books now is...
The princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich! It was such a good read. It had;
-Good romance
-Good representation
-was very relatable
-My new favorite couple!
-A lovely author loving her wife
I literally couldn't love this book more. The art and storyline were amazing! Not too slow, but you could feel the burn. (I love pinning, especially when it's not one sided). My favorite character was (obviously) the main one. I kin Cam so hard it's not funny... We're equally as dramatic.
I wish the best for the author and it's devoted fans. All I know is I will be reading a lot more of their works and works like theirs from now on. (Grilled cheese sandwiches also happen to be my guilty pleasure).
Also let me know if there's anyone that's read the series that wants me to write fan-fiction based off of them, because I'd love to. I just need a good excuse... And a good storyline. Canon or Fanon is good, just let me know!
THANK YOU AUTHOR FOR BEING A HOPELESS ROMANTIC AND WRITING THIS!!! <333

Join the revolution
Three beautiful autistic/neurodivergent trans women musicians came and stayed with me/us on their way home to Brooklyn, NY from tour. We had an impromptu jam session by the fire (with tea and snacks) and talked about revolution.
I am autistic and non-binary. It’s pretty common really—many neurodivergent people are also LGBTQ, and trans in particular. Because as someone who sees much of human behavior as a performance we have to learn (and mimic), we see the performative aspect of many things. And the masks, and the forced compliance. Most of us also see that gender is fuzzy around the edges. Or that there aren’t edges, at all.
We sang songs and played with my cat and talked about fighting for Justice. We have to be justice warriors, and to make friends across our communities, to stand up against the hard things. But we can do it with story and song and toasty fireside chats. Art is revolution. Books, especially the banned ones, are revolution. Listen to authors and creators who are allies (like Atlantic writer Ed Yong, or @neil-gaiman who openly supports and writes trans characters, or Judy Blume who spoke out against JKR); read books by trans authors like Kacen Callender or poems by Robin Gow, and there are many more. Listen to music by my wonderful friend Mya Byrne (above) who is a star country/blues singer also working on a book for kids. Follow neurodivergent authors (I am one, but there are so many wonderful folk—and several articles and sites that list their work, fiction and nonfiction).
We are all part of the revolution. ❤️

happy third birthday to the book that literally changed everything for me. the way i view myself, the way i view the world, the way i view relationships both romantic and platonic all come from this book.
i reread it recently and it really is excellent. of course, it’s by Alice Oseman so of course it’s good. i don’t talk about Loveless as much as Radio Silence, but it is just as good. i feel like if you read Loveless you would know and understand everything about me. it almost feels embarrassing how deeply personal this book is to me and how true it rings. there is so much power in all types of love, not just romantic.
Happy Third Birthday, Loveless! thank you Alice for writing this book. 💛

The Darkness Outside Us | Eliot Schrefer
This book had no business being this good, and I agree with other reviews who said this book was mis-marketed. This is a locked in space nightmarish, introspective, evaluation of the self depicted through two teens. Knowing anything else ruins the fun and comparing it to other books or movies spoils it.
High recommend if you're looking for something moody and atmospheric in space, but know there's a bunch of warnings before you go.
Format: Physical copy
Read in: 2022
And omg a sequel is coming in Oct 2024!

Thanks for joining me on this ride through 2022! When I started my reading spree in autumn 2021 I did not expect to find so much joy (and sometimes frustation) to motivate me to write hundreds of words about books every month. I read and write what I want and because I want to, but it's nice to know that sometimes there’s actually someone interested in what I have to say. So thank you for even the small interactions. :)
I had to edit this overview like five times because whenever I thought I was done I found another book I missed. So if I counted correctly I have read a total of 93 books (written and audio, not including manga, comics and non-fiction). That is ... a damn lot! Like 6 years combined compared to before. I also reread two of those books and while editing my novel I read it two whole times. That counts, right? (That’s why there’s 94 covers up there. Because i snuck it inbetween. Because I can. uAu) Only 14 of all these books I would categorise as non-queer. Funnily enough, 6 of those I didn’t like very much. Of the remaining 75 queer books I only found 1 book really bad and I’m picky about 2 more. Huh.
On to the award ceremony! (But don’t expect laudations. I wouldn’t shut up.)
Least favourite phrase:
... it smelled like boy.
(from: The Song that moves the Sun, Darius the Great (probably the 2nd) and the third time I already blocked from my mind (Here the Whole Time???))
That sentence came up fucking three times! Seriously. WHY?! I hate it. 8D
Favourite phrase:
But we have more important things to do than hook up.
(from: The Darkness Outside Us)
I laughed so hard at this sentence. Finally someone who gets it! All stupid YA heroines should listen to this.
Favourite protagonists:
Jack Shannon (Aces Wild) and Neil Josten (All for the Game)!
Favourite covers:
Least favourite books:
A Far Wilder Magic (Allison Saft) and If You Change Your Mind (Robbie Weber)
Favourite books (no order):
The Darkness Outside Us (Eliot Schrefer)
Aces Wild: A Heist (Amanda DeWitt)
The City Beautiful (Aden Polydoros)
Every Bird a Prince (Jenn Reese)
All for the Game series: (Nora Sacavic)
I Wish You All the Best (Mason Deaver)
I Hope You Get this Message (Farah Naz Rishi)
More books I greatly enjoyed:
Both can be true (Jules Machias)
A Taste of Gold and Iron (Alexandra Rowland)
The Language of Seabirds (Will Taylor)
A Complicated Love Story Set in Space (Shaun David Hutchinson)
At the Edge of the Universe (Shaun David Hutchinson)
Milo and Marcos at the End of the World (Kevin Christopher Snipes)
Little Black Bird (Anna Kirchner)
The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea (Axie Oh)
In Deeper Waters (F.T. Lukens)
So this is Ever After (F.T. Lukens)
All that’s Left in the World (Erik J. Brown)
.... aaaand many many more! uAu
Bonus!
At the half year point I actually counted how often the protagonists names were being used throughout those different books. I felt to lazy do to it in detail for the second half, but I can still present you my preliminery count of most used names for the protagonist, love interest and possibly best friend. These came up at least 3 times!
Will/William
Matt
Nate/Nathan
Andrew/Drew
Daniel
Lame, right? 8D
My favourite name choice award goes to Rosemary and Rowan from Mirrored in Evergreen by B. Pigeon!
That’s it! Phew! Thanks the universe for books! :D
