How it works:

You enter the event by sending in the emoji that corresponds to the edit you want and the source name of yourself and (if applicable) your partner(s).

Hello! I’m emu (nickname) and my pronouns are he/him. I’m ftm trans and aroace, mostly.

I might also like they/them as pronouns though I’m still figuring out how I feel about those, but by all means use them unless I say I don’t like them anymore. Whatever is in my bio should be fine :)

this covers everything from blog setup to the algorithm to making mutuals and more!

this will be in multiple steps and have as much info as i can think to include. feel free to rb or reply with any additional info! i’ve included reference posts by myself and some of my beloved mutuals <3

so you, dear reader. if you are interested in writing mcyt fanfiction, keep reading! its not hard, i promise.

a small disclaimer before i begin- none of this is for financial gain. you aren’t going to be paid. we all do this for fun. however, this doesn’t mean its okay for you to be harassed or have your writing stolen. writers are people, and we have lives.

step 1- make your blog

this is the simplest and most important step.

set up a theme however you want, fill out the bio, ect. if you already have a blog, you can use that! you’ll want to set up your pinned post with the following links (all of these are pretty optional except your masterlist)

references- x | x | x | x | x (dont steal peoples layouts)

a. masterlist- this contains all of your written works. mine are sorted by characters, but you can sort them other ways as well. you can find references here, here, and here from some of my mutuals

b. about me- self explanatory

c. requesting information (optional, only if your requests are open!) references: x | x | x | x

d. dni- self explanatory

you’ll want to set up all the links and such before you begin posting or writing.

(hot tip: requests are a great way to get ideas if you feel uninspired)

step two- actually write perhaps?

this is pretty easy if im honest so i’ll be including my best tips for writing here + what tends to be popular

1- do not feel pressured in any way to write or to meet a certain word count. this is supposed to be fun, don’t turn it into a task

2- pov, pov, pov. establish your pov from the start. you have three options; 1st [i, me, myself] (not very tumblr style, if you make x reader in 1st pov i’ll cry), 2nd [you, yours, yourself] (x reader is most commonly in this pov. its like 3rd but replace the pronouns with you), and 3rd [she/her, they/them, he/him, etc] (some x readers, mostly populated by character x character or other narrative style writing)

3- some characters do better on tumblr, some don’t. don’t look at the numbers too hard.

(hot tip: cc!dteam and cc!wibur fluff does the best.)

4- long fics or series need a plot layout. take my advice on this one. just lay out base events. thats it. it can be sarcastic, stupid, full of keysmashes, doesn’t matter. just get your base events down, and your brain will do the rest.

heres an example for a series im doing soon

like i said, doesn’t need to be perfect. it just needs to be.

5- headcannons are easy to make and easy to read (*cough cough you can get easy clout cough*)

6- make sure people know your requests are open (if you must, submit asks to yourself with whatever inspo you have and pretend it was an actual request)

7- make sure it follows boundaries (check @/smp-boundaries )

step 3- formatting

so here we are. you wrote. now we format.

a. images- some people add an image to the top of their posts, some dont. some use line breaks, some dont. whatever floats your boat. here are two line break images i use pretty often

just save them off the post and use them! credit to @sushisoot for the black one

(hot tip: look for macbook background images theyre usually a good size)

b. top of post information (aka: the hook- how will you draw potential reader’s attention?)

c. add a readmore i beg you (mobile tutorial) desktop is with text formatting stuff

d. consistency. keep your formatting style the same from post to post

e. if you start a taglist, keep a post where you list all of the tags and paste it at the bottom of fics (typically you want a taglist for any series you start)

f. tagging. this is how you actually get your post where you want it

most people use a tagging system similar to this (x reader specific, its what i write. if any other writers want to tell me how they tag ill add it in!)

mcyt, mcyt fanfiction, mcyt x reader, mcyt x you, dream smp, dream smp fanfiction, dream smp x reader, dream smp x you, [character] x reader, [character] x you, [character] x gn/f/m!reader, cc/c/[au]!character x reader, cc/c/[au]!character x you, cc/c/[au]!character x gn/f/m!reader

and for headcannons, just use multiple character specific tags along with the base mcyt and dream smp x reader tags (keep in mind, only the first 20 tags work, the other 10 are just for organization)

if you cross tag (use unrelated tags to your writing) i will come break your kneecaps. don’t do it.

step 4- actually posting

you made it! time to share your story with the simps fandom!

if you want maximum exposure, 8pm - 1 am est is a good bet. you can take advantage of the scheduling feature to make sure posts go up when you want.

step 5- making mutuals

the social game is a strange one, but i have more mutuals than i can count, so allow me to give you some advice.

1- be nice! reach out in their ask box, say hello, introduce yourself, ect

2- check on them every day or so, be a good friend

3- ask questions, discuss mutual interests, basic relationship stuff

if you’re scared, go on anon! send asks and get to know someone under the guise of an emoji or word. i did!

step 6- bust the algorithm

now look. im not saying this is the most ethical. but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

a. send yourself requests so people know you accept them

b. self reblogs. it boosts your fic to followers in other timezones

c. literally just. ask for reblogs. put a little message that says “reblogs appreciated” or “please consider reblogging” like the more polite youtubers do. (reblogs boost your work in tags and spread it to other people)

d. if you have a fic, dm it to me! i love to read other peoples work!

What aspects of Jikooks relationship, if it were a puzzle that concluded to one picture (them being in a relationship) what would those pieces be.

Eg. 12 pieces, 12 points that make you feel they are in a romantic relationship

Eg.

1. Matching clothes

2. scolding/honourifics/tone ect.

3. Grand gestures

4. Always together: backstage, car rides, hotel rooms, birthdays

…… and so on

I do keep saying that we need to look at the Jikook big picture, that when it comes to Jikook it's not all about one or two moments or one or two elements, but about putting all those pieces together like a puzzle.

So, if Jikook were a puzzle, what would the pieces be?

The way they look at each other. It could be one looking at the other unbeknown to them, or them looking into each other’s eyes. It can be loving, it can be lustful. You can see the adoration in their eyes. It’s just so different than the way they look at the others.

Their need to be together. When they can, when given the chance, and you can see this especially during ‘down’ time, they choose to be with each other, gravitate towards each other. They spend free time together. They choose to spend birthdays together, share car rides together, probably share hotel rooms, possibly cohabitate. This is a clear choice to keep spending time together. They enjoy each other’s company, they have told us that themselves in the past too.

The bigger/louder JK moments - GCFT, GCFS, RB, JK hand signing I love you to JM, JK having JM's name tattooed on his hand, gifting JM snow BV4…

The louder JM moments - flying back from Paris to surprise JK on his birthday, promising to go to the moon with JK, choosing to take JK to a deserted island with him, being with him at 4am, waking up and seeing JK is what makes him happy these days…

It’s the absence of skinship or the hesitance when it comes to skinship between them, more so in the early years. Hesitant touches, brushes, yet the need to touch each other. You see how they want to touch, but hesitate to do so, something they don’t have with the other members. There is something electric between them. Even when those touches are so soft, gentle, you can hardly even call them touches, they are charged. You can feel the electricity in the air.

Matching outfits. Not something I look at as of it’s own, but yet again, once is a coincidence, twice is by chance, but this is happening too often with these two. If it’s not wearing matching outfits then it’s sharing their clothes, as if they are picking what to wear from the same closet (perhaps they are).

For advice I think I made a post forev ago but I can’t find it so here’s the general version. w/starting up & growing ur blog I could give u the ✨just do u and that’s enough✨schtick but tbh here’s the real tea:

ur blog icon & url do play a factor in whether I click on ur blog to check it out after u follow. A good icon & url like “grammyharry” might get me 👀 whereas one like “1136799xlxsharrie” prob isn’t gunna grab my attention. w/this: make sure ur url & icon is a reflection of ur blog as a whole

make & tag original posts w/ the category/subjects so those w/similar interests can find u thru general tumblr searches. This is 110% what I used to do & it got my posts a lot more seen when I was just starting out. w/this: limit the categories to around 5 tags max (otherwise it starts to get excessive). This is also how I found some fun peeps to become friends w/in the CM fandom despite not knowing anyone in it b4 lol

Make sure your blog is findable via search & that you allow tumblr to rec you in “blogs you might like” to others. Do this by going to: Settings > Visibility > turn off both options.

Interact a lot w/blogs you like who you’d want to have an eventual mutual with. If you consistently interact w/my blog, I WILL eventually notice & check out yours. Send asks, like or reply to posts, rb w/some thoughts in the tags, ect. Be active!

If possible, make ur main-blog for the content you most want to find mutuals/fandom community in. You can absolutely do it through a side-blog too, but it’s a lil easier/less work to get noticed via long-term interacts w/others when your likes/asks/replies are from ur main.

Be yourself!!! Let ur personality & interests shine through posts & reblogs. I promise you’ll eventually attract wonderful ppl who share the same outlooks & interests. It takes time to find community/curate your best experience on here, but it’s SO worth it in the long haul when you do.

OK OCTARIAN SOCIETY HEADCANONS

oi LOVE this post here! so i want to expand on my hcs as well a bit.  so uh here:

all octolings are to wear the same hairstyle, known among surface octolings as the military cut. this hairstyle is optimal for growing viable tentacles!

on that note, lower octarians are made from the severed tentacles of octolings! they are however biomechanical, so theyre like cyborg limbs. 

sometimes, the tentacle will begin some minor regeneration when revived via the machinery inserted. these tentacles may grow anywhere from 1-7 more limbs. the more limbs, the higher class and intelligence! occasionally, a tentacle will simply grow larger instead of growing more limbs. these octarians are still relatively low intelligence, and are trained to become octosnipers and octocommanders. 

the haircuts seen on the playable character octolings are haircuts that were pretty popular back under ground as well! many octolings had a secret place theyd meet up with others and do things that usually werent allowed, such as altering hairstyle or outfit.

the octoling afro isnt all that weird! many inkling hairstyles (spiky, long cut, pigtails, ect) are similar to it! instead of being tentacles, the afro is more like a water balloon full of ink.

the tune used to brainwash the octolings (and callie) is engineered to get stuck in your head to the point you can hardly think. when the calamari inkantation is heard, this stops (bc its so catchy lol) until you hear the tune again! as the calamari inkantation is VERY powerful, the tune was no longer entirely effective on its own to any that heard it. this led to the invention of the hypnoshadesl

octarian society is focused entirely on military efforts. if you arent in the military itself, you develop military technologies, or produce food. many have tried to tell octavio theyve developed an alternative power source to the zapfish, but he seems too focused on screwing over inklings to care....

“why arent there more great octoweapons?” building and powering technology to sustain an octarian of that level is very expensive! the octarians simply cant afford to produce more. they are the last line of defense for each kettle system in octo canyon.

“whats a kettle system?” have you ever noticed that when you look around you in a hero mode level (a kettle), youre above tons of jar and pot shaped buildings? those are homes!!! people live there!!!! they are also filled with plants (for oxygen) and the cave walls are covered in panels that look like the sky to simulate a day/night cycle. kettle systems are interconnected kettles. different kettles are often exclusive to certain professions, i.e. a kettle for agriculture, a kettle for testing, a kettle for manufacturing, a kettle for medicine, ect. of course, all of octo canyon is connected, however kettle systems are much closer connected to each other for ease of transport.
