You know what also would have been a great thing to make textual in STP S3?
Seven helping Picard save Jack with no qualms, questions, or issues because once upon a time a woman kidnapped her son and dissected him alive for his parts, she didn’t value him as a person, just as a thing he had inside him she could use. Seven couldn’t save him, was the one that in a way doomed him (he was on her radar Because of Seven, and Jack is in danger seemingly bc of something he inherited from Picard, it would leave both of them feeling responsible) and she’s not going to just sit down and watch this happen again to somebody else.
It’s not that I think her being loyal and chill about this is ooc Without this, the lessons she learnt about protecting your own from Voyager were clearly formative to her as a person, but it would have made it Better with little to no effort or need for excessive screen time to do it.

Your Turn, Nat
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
Word Count: 1235
Summary: Natasha has a secret family like Clint in AoU
Warnings: Fluff ahoy
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
A/N: This was requested by @ecruzsalaz and I hope you like, Wow, just wow, this is super fluffy and I love it!!
“Both the tower and the compound are compromised.” Tony pinched the bridge of his nose as he spoke to the other avengers in the Quinjet. He, Natasha, Clint, and Wanda had just finished a grueling mission and were on their way back to the Avengers Tower when they were informed that there was a breach in security. S.H.I.E.LD was hard at work patching up the firewall but until they were given the all clear to return, Fury instructed the team to bunker down in a safe-house.
“The nearest safe-house is another five hours away.” Everyone groaned in unison at Wanda’s statement. Their mission had been a long one, three months in length, and the last thing they wanted to do was travel five hours in the Quinjet.
“Do we have any other options?” Tony asked.
“Your turn,” Clint stated while looking at Natasha. She shot him a look but was met with the sight of her three teammates, all tired and beaten up. She sighed to herself and walked in the direction of the cockpit. All of Tony’s questions went ignored as she started up the Quinjet and programmed it to head to an address only she knew. Her whole body remained tense for the rest of the ride and she stared straight ahead, silently.
After an hour and a half trip, the Quinjet touched down on the ground. “Where did you bring us, Romanoff?” Tony and Wanda exchanged curious glances as Natasha remained silent and aloof. Clint wore his usual giddy expression as the door to the Quinjet hissed open. When the team stepped out they were met with a wide open landscape where a quaint house sat atop a hill. “Huh, so you have a secret family too? Tony, being the genius he was, put the facts together before they reached the house.
Natasha didn’t miss the hurt in his voice, so she spoke her next words softly, “Don’t be offended, it’s for their protection.” Wanda’s eyes lit up at Natasha’s mention of “their” and she joined Clint in his excitement. Although she was trying to be subtle, Wanda was practically vibrating with glee and Nat couldn’t stop the smile that appeared on her own face upon seeing Wanda bounce all around.
When they finished the long trek up the hill, Natasha approached the door and knocked a specific pattern into its wood surface. The door flung open to reveal a little girl who practically tackled Natasha and sent her back a few steps. Nat let out a happy laugh and a cry of “lisichka” and wrapped her arms around the girl.
The pair twirled around until the girl noticed Clint and then promptly jumped into his arms. “Uncle Clint!” She exclaimed.
He laughed a boisterous laugh and called out her name, “Sofya!” She giggled as Clint placed her on his shoulders and walked into the house. Natasha directed Tony and Wanda into the house and then shut the door.
“Make yourselves at home. I’m sorry I haven’t brought you here sooner, I just worry for Sofya’s safety.”
“Nonsense. We understand.” Wanda spoke with a kind smile. The three of them sat on the couch in front of Sofya and Clint who were wrestling on the carpet. Wanda watched the wrestling match with adoration, Sofya was adorable. She had soft red her just like Nat’s and her eyes were big and wide, filled with curiosity and joy.
The group was so engrossed with watching Sofya giggle as Clint tickled her that they hadn’t heard you approach. You gasped in surprise at the sight, Natasha usually always told you when she would be coming home and this visit was totally unexpected. God, were you happy to see her. You smiled brightly and let your presence be known with a cry of “Natasha!”
The three whipped their heads in your direction and Natasha ran towards you and jumped into your arms, much like her daughter had done to her earlier. You squeezed her tightly and giggled as she peppered kisses all over your face. “Malishka, I missed you so much.” She buried her face into your neck and inhaled your scent. Natasha let out a happy sigh, you smelled like home.
You placed her on the ground with a quick peck to her lips. She laced her fingers through yours and the two of you walked towards the group in the living room. “Tony, Wanda, this is (Y/N), my partner.”
“It’s nice to finally meet you two. Natasha’s talks about you guys a lot.” You ignored Tony’s outstretched hand and pulled him into a hug instead. When you pulled away to hug Wanda you caught his look of surprise. “Tony, you’re family. The same with you, Wanda. Anyone who Natasha considers family is my family.” Tony gave you a watery smile, clearly touched that you and Natasha considered him family. You pulled him into another hug.
“Sofya, get off your crazy uncle and come here.” Sofya came over to you and pressed herself to your side. She snuck glances at Wanda and Tony, shyly. “This is your Uncle Tony and your Auntie Wanda. Can you say hello?”
Sofya gave the two of them a meek wave and a quiet “hello.” She whispered something in your ear and you replied with a nod. She nervously walked up to Wanda and said, “Your hair is really pretty.”
Wanda beamed at Sofya and thanked her. “How old are you, little one?”
Sofya didn’t hesitate at all and held up her little palm, “I’m this many!” She said it proudly.
“My goodness! You’re almost as old as me!” Wanda joked. Sofya laughed at her joke and began to tug on Wanda’s hand. Wanda got the memo and stood up to follow the little girl. “Come on Auntie Wanda, I’m gonna show you my toys.”
You rubbed your hands together and took in the group. They filled you in on the situation without breaking confidentiality, and you nodded along as you listened to the details. “You all must be hungry. I’ll make dinner.”
Clint’s stomach grumbled at your mention of dinner. “Yes! I’m starving.” Natasha swatted his shoulder and he howled in pain. “What the heck Nat? I didn’t do anything wrong.” He pouted and Natasha rolled her eyes. You walked off towards the kitchen and Clint followed eagerly, hoping to snatch ingredients while you cooked.
Natasha and Tony sat in silence and listened in on you scolding Clint. “Barton, I needed those carrots!” The two shared a laugh.
“You have a beautiful family, Natasha.” Tony was sincere in his statement and Natasha gave him a rare, soft smile. “You’re right in protecting them.”
Natasha reached over and squeezed his hand. “Thank you. They mean the world to me, I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Natasha filled Tony in on the details of you and Sofya and he listened intently. Their talk would be interrupted every so often with an excited squeal from Sofya or an “ow” from Clint. It was bickering and chaos, but it would always be her home.
A/N: I hope you liked it! I have one request left to write so feel free to send in some more! Also, feel free to check out my other fics, if you want! I posted this from my phone, again because my laptop hates me. I’m getting a new one Monday so any awkward formatting will be fixed then. I’ll also fix my master list to include all of my recent fics, sorry for any errors. Thanks, Viv :) (I hope you smile at least once today!!)

tag game
Rules: tag 9 people you’d like to know better/annoy a little with silly games lol.
Top 4 ships: (Having done similar lists, in the interests of not being a broken record this might be slightly weighted/arbitrary, but)
Cassie Maddox and Rob Ryan (Dublin Murder Squad). I love almost every word/character Tana French has ever written, but it always goes back to these two. I know what it’s like to have a complicated, familial yet precariously close to unhealthy intensity in a friendship and it’s not the individual characters as much as the palpable tells of commonality and instinct between them that feels like that but blown into uniquely epic proportions. This relationship is written in some of the most beautiful prose I’ve ever read and even giving fanfic for this series the old college try is always a bit daunting; even though I’ve never not been in the middle of a book it was an obsession which was kind of the beginning of literature making up a good deal of my fandom writing/activity, so, formative at the least, life-destroying at the most.
Barnaby Brooks Jr. and Kotetsu Kaburagi (Tiger & Bunny). I think the reason this is one of my favorites is that it’s one of those extremely unlikely pairings (not so much in the sense of sexuality but their personalities, their histories, that age difference which actually isn’t as big a gap as I initially thought) which isn't really that unlikely when you take a closer look at the way they canonically and potentially complement each other. Even though this is overall a pretty lighthearted series with funny characters that you wouldn’t immediately credit with much subtlety, it impressively draws both guys in this partnership as having maladapted, in occasionally melodramatic but mostly everyday, sublimated ways, to traumatic losses, and these two characters are almost incidentally shoved into each other’s lives when the only self-prescribed recourse is to bury their heads further into isolation. When this series was first airing a lot of the discussion circled around Barnaby (positively or negatively) as a Bruce Wayne woobie type, but look, they’re both the woobie in very different ways (and neither of them is that reductively comparable to any superhero character I know), and they manage to build love and trust between them that withstands the fact that the timing for dropping the emotional bombs is never good.
James T. Kirk and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek). I mean, my longest (and longest-running WIP) fic ever is partly about this pairing and they’ve been living in my head on and off for...ten years. I like these two in TOS too (though mostly in the uh, less gendered moments) but AOS fandom will always have a special place in my heart no matter how much hate other people have for it and I lost my mind over the potential angst and growth and chemistry of this ship. Can’t say I’m unhappy it was never canon though.
Natasha Romanov and Steve Rogers (MCU). So the first Avengers movie came out and they had some brief but very chill interactions and she was being all reformed-murderer and he was being all “ma’am” and I remember having a talk with someone like, man, that would be such an avenue for them to go down exploring an unlikely relationship but then I thought nah, they’ll never be each other’s designated love interest so that would never get explored, right? And then the Russos gave me The Winter Soldier, and they are now without question my favorite relationship in any of these movies. And I love that it’s a male-female friendship that is very close without making those loud self-conscious clarifications about “ugh, it would be like kissing a sibling” because oh no viewers don’t understand complicated/ambiguous/mature relationships between the two genders (discounting that shit in AOU when Steve was like, the designated bro who had to give Bruce the disclaiming permission to pursue Nat or whatever bleghyeahno). There isn’t really a way for me to believe them that isn’t sad or bittersweet, I’m not so on board with them getting married and HEA, but I think...it’s complicated.
Last song: The Vaults cover of Alt-J’s “Hunger of the Pine”
Last movie: Jumanji: The Next Level
Reading: Too many things at once, but I just started Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments. I have reservations about this sequel, with how it’s in a kind of dialogue with the TV series and what that implies (though I think there are also some inconsistencies which just has me confused), and it does seem like an unnecessary return to what was a deliberately open-ended masterpiece timed to the success of the adaptation. Still, Atwood can write pages and pages made up mostly of somber world-building and make it mysteriously compelling.
Craving: Hugs.

(I don't care what universe, prime or rebbot about star trek, or movies or comics Marvel (I would prefer comics, but I have no problem with movies if your top has some movies fics) I read all your fics (you write previously 😭), but I want to know, what are your favourite fics about that legendary ships? If you have more than 10, I won't have problem, more fics to read, I would love it! ❤
Oh boy! Let me think! This isn’t, like, an ordered top ten, everything here is great:

BlossomsintheMist - Relativistic Heat Conduction (AoU)
Kiyaar - Sins of Omission (616)
BlossomsintheMist - Got You Under My Skin (Ults)

teaberryblue - Emanata (The Comics Will Break Your Heart Remix) (616)
WhenasinSilks - The Time of the Season (616)
You definitely said top twelve. Definitely.
I think my K/S fandom is all too long ago that I can’t come up with ten but I have some recs from a few months ago.

Would you do a Bruce/Betty fic? Similar to AoU when they go to Clints place but instead it’s Bruce’s? Love the idea of him having a family my poor baby
Wakanda doesn’t kick them out but it’s a near thing. Dust still swirls in the air like the cottonwood seeds back home, floating too quickly to be caught and gathered. Their losses are immeasurable. Bruce is caught in the liminal space of rage, helplessness and grief. “I have somewhere we can go.” He says one night, tearing his eyes away from the fireplace in the grand rooms they’ve been allotted in the guest wing of the palace. No one says anything at first but Cap meets his eyes from where he’s folded over himself on a large chair in the corner and it’s decided. They pack up the next day, the broken men and women that’s left of the Avengers. Thor takes off to find any remaining Asgardians that survived, Rocket elects to stay in Wakanda, hoping that he can rebuild Groot from the dust he found. Shuri hugs them all tightly with trembling arms and makes them promise to check in. She’s going to bring them all back, she promises. She’s going to figure it out. Bruce can’t think of science or fixes to what Thanos wrought. His mind has a singular focus on his wife and son at home. The small bit of light that he kept far away from ever since the Hulk made his first appearance. But Betty and Luke are safe. His father-in-law sent a message. A kindness he didn’t think the other man was capable of.They stop at the Barton farm first–Clint jumping out of the jet before it’s landed to find Laura huddled in the bedroom with Lila. Cooper and Nathaniel are gone. There are no words for the Barton’s capable of making them feel better or easing their heartache. Nat holds Lila, her head pressed under her chin and rocks as Clint and Laura retreat to the back of the jet for a moment of private grief. They put out a signal to any remaining SHIELD, Avenger allies or friends to meet them at the coordinates Bruce has had memorized for as long as he can remember. “You have a safe house?” Cap asks softly as their cabin comes in to view. “A safe bunker,” Bruce replies. His shoulders relaxing for the first time in years at the sight of the clearing, surrounded by sturdy trees holding the homemade sun-catchers they made and the wind-chimes that Betty bought on their travels, the first from Berkley where they met. They land feet from the door and Bruce waits until Cap and Nat, and the Barton’s are out before going to the door and placing his palm against the wood. A socket pops open to scan his eye and he breathes in Luke’s entire name for entry. The doors–multiple, reinforced vibranium, and with enough locks to hold at least three Hulks at bay, slide and then push open with a blast of cool air. For one heartbeat, there is silence except for Lila asking where they are in the doorway behind, pressed up against Nat’s side. “Daddy!” Luke rushes him from the shadows and Betty’s face, so pale that she looks like a painting of herself appears right after. “My god,” she whispers and then crushes them both together. “Bruce. I thought–I heard on the news…”
He kisses her hair, her cheek, Luke’s forehead. He almost forgets about his team behind him but Luke gasps. “Dad! You brought your Avengers to our house?”***In the way kids do, Lila and Luke retreat to the fort that Luke’s made in the living room, where a fire is roaring and they’re far enough away from the adult conversation that takes place over cups of strong coffee.
“I called Pepper, she heard from Tony on the ship but hasn’t since. Peter was with him.” Rhodey drums his legs, legs that he still uses with assists from Tony’s tech, from where he’s propped on one of the bar stools brought in from the breakfast nook.
There are too many losses to swallow it all at once. Everyone looks away from each other or down at their mugs and cups. The only sound is Luke and Lila whispering, and even that is quiet and withdrawn.
"Are her and Hogan, alright?” Cap asks finally, nursing an oversized mug that proclaims him a mad scientist. “They are. They’re headed here now.” Rhodey answers and drains the glass of whiskey Betty procured from a top shelf behind a misshapen cookie jar she had made in a local pottery group.“Who else?” Nat asks. “No word from Fury.” Nat says, meeting eyes with Clint before laying her head down on her arms. It’s odd to see the Avengers at his table, the one he bought locally at a rummage sale in his clothes and Betty’s clothes, lounge and sweat pants, flannels and sweatshirts. They look so out of place from his usual context and yet so perfectly melded in to his home that his heart both sinks at the reminder of why they’re here and swells at the sight of them, his team and family. They spend the rest of the night attending to the kids and checking in on the outside world. Jane and her intern and her intern’s intern are trekking their way down from Canada but with flights grounded and the roads packed with cars abandoned as their drivers dissipated, travel will take hours, maybe days. When even Cap’s head starts to droop, they lay out blankets and sheets throughout the house on comfortable surfaces. Betty brings down sleeping bags from storage and then interlaces her fingers through Bruce’s and pulls him to their room. It smells of the lavender and rose perfume she uses, the same one she was wearing when they met. His senses, always heightened, go into overdrive as he picks up everything that has changed about her room. Eyes roving to take in the furniture that she’s moved, the pictures that Luke’s drawn that now adorn the space around her mirror over the dresser. “Can we fix this?” She whispers as they curl into bed together, her words tickling a sensitive spot on his shoulder. “Yes.” He answers. Because right there in that moment, he can think of no other option, no other way than forward now that he and Betty and Luke are together. He feels invincible and feels guilty for it in the wake of all that they’ve lost. But he can’t help but breathe easier here, knowing that for the first time in years, he can see his family beyond vid-chats and broken cell reception. He feels like the Hulk can protect them or at least he can protect them against the Hulk. Tomorrow, they might discover more of their friends and family missing. But he’s learned in his time with the Avengers that anything is possible, even when the odds are against them. And he’s a damn good scientist. A scientist who know knows a Sorcerer Supreme, a god and is a part of a legendary, slightly infamous, superhero team. They can figure it out, right?

Ooooh I love the sound of the ask game! I’m gonna put a few here but you can do just one of you want, Hope you are having a good day! Wanda Maximoff Thanos Jaylah from Star Trek Beyond Bucky Barnes Loki Erik Killmonger Thanks ☺️
(Ahhh ty for so many! Especially Jaylah and Wanda! I’ll get to them all, I promise, but I’ll do them one at a time)
Wanda Maximoff
General opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life
Hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
Hogwarts house: Gryffindor | Slytherin | Ravenclaw | Hufflepuff
Best quality: Her courage. Shealways does what she at least thinks is the right thing, no matter the risk to herself – signing up for the experiments when she thought the Avengers were evil, turning against Hydra and Ultron the second she realized what they were, fighting the Accords (and yet not letting Vision’s support of them come between them in the long run), and finally killing the man she loved (while reading his mind and feeling his pain, cause telepathy) to save the universe
Worst quality: She’s too easily swayed at times. Hydra, the media after Laos, Clint coming to get her in CW. It’s perhaps her greatest weaknessShip them with: Vision, lowkey BuckyBrOTP them with: Pietro, NatNeeds to stay away from: Hydra, the idiots in media, ThanosMisc. thoughts: I honestly love the development of her powers so much. It’s symbolic, frankly. When she was with Hydra, her mental manipulation was powerful and her shields were weak as all heck. But as soon as she was free of their control, she stopped themanipulation and learned to fly. What’s more poetic than learning to fly?? Then, as the movies progress, her shields and attacks and flight grow stronger and stronger alongside herstrength and confidence as a hero. But they also grow gentler, from the delicate swirling in CW to healing Vision in IW – yeah, she learned to heal – as she finds more and more peopleto love outside of her twin. And the first time after AOU we see her using telepathy, it’s soft and gentle and because Vision asked her to. Her power development reflects her entire arc over every movie, not just when she’s first discovering them, and it’s beautiful

GotG Vol. 2
The first GotG was oddly lightweight for me. It reaffirmed how much I prefer the longform of TV. Something about the way the crew came together in Vol. 1 felt obligatory, not quite earned. But Vol. 2 doesn't have that problem in the slightest. For that matter, it doesn't require one to have watched Vol. 1 at all. It feels more like the way familiarity was assumed in the first episode of Firefly, actually. Maybe that was what made me apathetic about S1, that each character's subplot was independent and was neutral towards whether they should join the crew, whereas Vol. 2 was all laden with interconnected histories, that are critical to their relationships with each other. Speaking of that crew feel, there's definitely something to be said for how this cast really showed that family feel directly in the text, compared to how the Avengers roster films mostly play lip service, fans operating off of the all of the harmonious headcanons and relationships they had constructed themselves in the aftermath of Phase 1. (That might also explain why I continue to like Age of Ultron more than Civil War, as the latter had drunk that headcanon Kool-aid, whereas AoU never made those assumptions, so the text felt more earned.) GotG 2 centered that relationship building as both the text and the A-plot, so we didn't have random external factors derailing things, none of the film trying to do both relationship drama and vigilante theme exploration and ending up with a half-ass of both. We saw step by step the good and the bad they had in their various dynamics, and even more importantly, we saw them confronting the issues they had, having moments of catharsis, growing from their trials and resolving to do better. The crew are all better people at the end of the film, because of the events of the film, and because of their own decisions to be better because of the events of the film. The last MCU movie that gave me that feel was Iron Man 3. (And I get the impression that this change from the "our heroes are cinnamon rolls that are already fine the way they are" stalemate is also what has set Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok apart from the previous films, as well.) And it helps that the music was actually memorable, of course. I praised the anime-like visual ambitions Dr. Strange achieved, whereas this film did great with tying most of the sequences to insert songs, an art I also quite appreciate and miss in a lot of mainstream media. That Zune shade tho amazing Also yo where is my Michelle Yeoh Ravager spinoff forget Star Trek make that its own TV series pls

a list of semi coherent thoughts I’ve had about mcu wanda maximoff
0.5 this post is open to discourse. if u are unwilling to see viewpoints that are pro wanda or anti wanda this is not the post 4 u.
1. wanda runs off of very powerful emotions and that’s an a + character trait. her rage fueled grief and power is just fascinating to watch.
2. ew whitewashing why do you do this to me mcu. stop. enough.
3. yeah it’s kind of ridiculous to kill the ex-ceo of a weapons company that killed your parents as compared to whoever fired the missiles or whoever ordered said military action but it’s not that ridiculous if you apply the barest modicum of generous interpretation to it.
Tony Stark was emblematic of the very destructive American ideal of we’re great and right and coming with guns. Going off of IM2, even as he was doing great things (”I’ve successfully privatized world peace”) his performance was still very um American (”no one’s man enough to go [against me]”). Like as audience members we get it but I could see how that sort of look-at-me attitude would not ring like redemption to someone in that much emotional pain. Like, you could easily read their actions as being about attacking every American/foreign influence figure head, which is sort of supported by the fact that the twins wanted the avengers down not just Tony Stark.
If the weapons were illegally sold there’s no guarantee the twins knew that Tony wasn’t responsible. It’s possible Tony leaked the truth about Obadiah after the “I Am Iron Man” press conference, but the original plan was a SHIELD coverup.
I’m not inclined to conflate profiting of our wrongs or moral ambiguities on the same moral level as instigating wrongs, but it’s also up in the air whether or not Stark Industries cared about collateral damage in the design of their weapons and that’s something the twins could legitimately blame them for. IM1 canon is a mixed bag - we have intellicrops (concern for philanthropy) but we also have, y’know the Jericho (the weapon that levels mountains)
(read more under the cut)
tl;dr: wanda is a fascinating flawed character who suffers from writing problems but she’s also wearing the name of a jewish/romani woman even though marvel studios is too much of a coward to translate that to film & i’m perpetually bitter and indecisive about everything.
4. the twins had enormous social factors encouraging them to hate the avengers/america. even american media was questioning the avengers; shield had fell; people were putting up anti avengers graffiti
5. considering the twins spent their formative years in a country at war and lost their parents I’m assuming they went through quite a few economic hardships.
6. what sort of access did the twins have to media or education?
7. I’m not inclined to blame the twins for their desire to get revenge but it is worth noting that they seemed to have very little concern for collateral damage even though the only thing we as an audience knows for certain is that the whole reason they’re seeking revenge is because of collateral damage.
8. there’s a gap of 8-12 years between the death of their parents and their attack on the avengers. no matter what mitigating circumstances there were (and I think there were a lot) that’s a premeditated crime
9. there’s a lot of parallels between wanda maximoff and kira nerys except the writers on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actually cared about Kira Nerys.
10. both of Wanda’s major fuck ups (willingly unleashing the Hulk on Johannesburg and failing to protect everyone in Lagos) happened in African countries. I believe in some suspension of belief for superhero movies but I’m not sure it’s entirely appropriate to be like hey! look at Wanda! the whitewashed character who fucks things up in African countries! such girl power! great anti-imperialism message!
(I mean, the same disregard applies to all the avengers though. I’m pretty sure the safest interpretation of Lagos is “the avengers could have done better by not fighting in proximity with a bunch of civilians” which is on Steve. And unless I fever dreamed this Steve tosses his cowl at the feet of anti-avengers graffiti in the beginning of aou and there is nothing appropriate about that).
11. Wanda was introduced in AOU, a movie with sub par dialogue and tbh I have a feeling Whedon et.al never thought through the implications of Johannesburg bc he just wanted a convenient way to introduce a hulkbuster fight.
12. tbh I really want a scarlet witch movie to fix all of this but I also really want a recast and I know I won’t get either (fanon wanda is the best because we can fix all of this with a hammer).
13. CA:CW seemed to draw on a lot of Wanda’s comic history (specifically in the oppression metaphors) but since it followed the clusterfuck that was AOU I can’t exactly give them a standing ovation for that.
14. ca:cw did a very bad job following through wanda’s plot threads from aou. tbh I’m not even team we need to stretch Wanda’s redemption arc further but idk, it might be nice if she mentioned her dead brother or tied the Lagos incident/Sokovia accords to, idk, her past living in a war zone.
15. ca:cw could’ve given me wanda wryly commenting on how luxurious the compound was compared to sokovia but instead it gave the should-be-jewish character a cross in her bedroom and fuck that marvel why don’t you just stake me through the heart so I don’t have to deal with your bullshit
16. I wish wanda in the airport scene was more about her desire to do good (go stop the supersoldiers) than the awkward oppression metaphor
17. although push come to shove I would’ve focused on poverty/american foreign intervention over calling the powers she volunteered for the source of her oppression the whole raft scene does demonstrate that people whose powers (or even training) cannot be separated like say Sam and the Falcon or Tony and the suits face a special criminal justice risk.
but this isn’t really relevant to the accords, which are not the SHRA and honestly the same ethical problem of how to incarcerate enhanced people exists whether or not someone is acting as a superhero (is it ethical to put a psychic murderer in solitary confinement if that’s the only way to prevent them from using their powers to escape or assault guards?)
18. according to beta canon/film subtext wanda & pietro did not willingly sign up to work with hydra. Just good to remember.
19. I will forever be attached to the idea of wanda liking Vision’s company because he is both practically invulnerable (not going to get shot 7 times on a floating city) and emotionally dependent on her support (just like Pietro). (this is not implying twincest btw)
20. I think wanda’s house arrest in ca:cw is not completely unreasonable (she’s probably awaiting investigation & is at risk of being hurt/hurting others from mob violence) but definitely steve (and probably natasha & sam) should be under house arrest as well. but they aren’t, and I think it’s fair to say that in universe that’s xenophobia/anti-immigrant sentiment. why be afraid of the american icon when you can be afraid of the poor sokovian woman?
21. antis make way too much of the whole “she’s just a kid line”. like steve was responding to tony calling her, a human being, a weapon of mass destruction. like, he was just trying to humanize her and calling the youngest person in a group a kid even when they’re an adult isn’t that strange.
22. in lagos wanda was trying so damn hard to stop that bomb and yes she didn’t manage it but blaming her instead of steve? uh gross.
23. how much experience does she have? yes tony stark throwing himself into superheroics worked out surprisingly well but superheroes need training
24. I insist marvel release a 22 page dissertation on wanda’s mind powers but also if I don’t like it I’ll call it not canon. (my initial theory was that she produces ptsd symptoms - even if the person normally doesn’t suffer from ptsd - but something in the confidence that she can manipulate tony before entering his mind makes me think she has slight suggestive abilities beyond fear and also thor’s vision arguably followed a different vein)
25. antis like to argue that the maximoffs only turned on ultron because it benefited them but let’s be clear the maximoffs fought ultron because they thought he was wrong and wanted to personally help. they could’ve just tipped off the avengers and left or left ultron to do whatever ultron was going to do and only fought him if he directly came after them okay the twins had options and they chose the most altruistic option.
26. ppl who say wanda isn’t really whitewashed because marvel’s decades of retcons have whitewashed her at past points are pretty much using a two-wrongs argumentative fallacy.

You should watch the movie serenity, they clear up the whole revers thing, or you probably just Google it.. I have noticed that his treatment of female characters has gotten worse as time goes, especially now that I'm older. I noticed how in Firefly they do a lot of shaming when it comes to Inera's career. I was disgusted about Angel and AOU especially hit me hard.
Well, I saw Serenity, so I’ll take a minute to deconstruct that because every time I bring up the Reavers I get “you should watch the movie”. So this is not about you, Anon, since it sounds like you are well aware of Joss’s issues, but I want to just take down the Serenity thing once and for all.
Serenity doesn’t fix the Reavers problem even a little. It explains their existence within the narrative, but it fixes nothing at all about the fact that Native Americans are still being portrayed allegorically as mindless, filthy, terrifying, murdering rape machines who in the end are mostly slaughtered by a tiny white woman.
And the Pax twist dreadfully simplifies what was done to them, as well. I often hear “it makes it okay because it acknowledges we did this to ourselves, we made them that way!” and that’s…so far beside the point it’s laughable. Native Americans at the time of colonization weren’t what the Reavers are – they were human beings with complex emotions and cultural history, and they were trying to protect their families and way of life. You know who the senseless murdering rape machines of the American West were?
It was the white people. Slave-owning, Native-hunting, Manifesting Their Destiny white people.
You cannot compare “we were just trying to drug our own people into submission” with “we invaded an entire continent and stole literally everything its occupants had, including their religious faith and their children, before slaughtering most of them and turning the rest into caricatures for media consumption.”
You can’t “clear up” the way Native Americans were portrayed in Firefly. That just…ain’t gonna happen. It was bad, and I wish we could just acknowledge it was bad, in the same way I wish with all my heart that the owners of several sports teams in this country would wake up one day and suddenly realize that it’s not okay to turn an entire race of people into a mascot.
I mean…I get it, Serenity was the first and last gift to fans from a canon that they thought had long since died. And despite everything I’ve said here, it’s okay to like Firefly. Just because I don’t, and because I think it has severe issues, doesn’t mean you can’t like it. But liking something with such deep flaws requires that you at least acknowledge those flaws and let people speak about them. That is the very least price you need to pay for the enjoyment you get out of something like Firefly.
Baby fans grow up to be media makers – Star Trek and Doctor Who have both proven that to us, with its generation of fans who grew up to be a generation of Star Trek and Doctor Who writers and directors. Someday some kid who liked Firefly might grow up to make something inspired by it, or even a reboot. Which means we could have a better Firefly if people were allowed to talk about and eventually fix the problems Firefly had, if people were encouraged to understand the issues. But we have to acknowledge those problems first, and I feel like there are some Firefly fans who are not so good at that sometimes.

Real talk, with regard to Age of Ultron, I take Justin Lin’s approach to Star Trek: Into Darkness:  politely ignore it and carry on like it didn’t happen.  Since AoU feels like one big “fuck you” from Joss Whedon to the fans, I feel pretty okay about this.  (On a Tony Stark note - because that’s the kind of blog this is - it also seems like yet another piece in the MCU narrative to paint Tony as an irresponsible asshole who is to blame for everything ever.  I am and always will be salty about Civil War, but AoU is still in the salt shaker, too.  (It’s very full, ngl).  It also introduced one of my favorite characters in the worst way possible and has really only made her worse in the subsequent movies.  I love Scarlet Witch, generally speaking, but I really can’t stand her MCU incarnation and that makes me sad.  Wanda Maximoff deserved better.  But yeah, my original point.  Now we can blame Tony and only Tony for a death robot and we can all yell at him about his lack of honesty, Steven Grant Rogers.)
When I think about AoU, I honestly can’t think of a single good thing that came out of it.  Instead we got the twins being introduced as Hydra operatives (I realize that the MCU isn’t allowed to make any references to their background/backstory, but jfc, Maximoff is pretty obviously a Jewish name and I just can’t even with Wanda and Pietro Maximoff willingly working for Nazis.  I canNOT.  Plenty of people who are far more knowledgeable and articulate than I am have talked about this, so I’m not going to go into it except to say, ‘fuck that.’  For real, fuck that).  We also got Wanda mind-raping people, which was just ew and no and get the fuck out of here with that shit.  You know what?  Everything about the twins sucked in AoU.  It did.  They were terrible.  It was terrible.
We got Laura Barton for the sole purpose of pissing off the fans who loved the very popular Clint/Natasha pairing.  (It was a nice fuck you to the Russos and what they were setting up in CA: TWS, too.)  I’m not here to shit on Laura Barton because I like her, but the fact that her character was created for what was essentially fandom wanking on a much larger scale is bullshit.
Let’s see.  We got the Tony prima nocta joke, which was not only out of character, but gross and threw me right the fuck out of the scene.  We got the weird Nat/Bruce...thing with all of its accompanying issues.  We lost JARVIS, which I mean, yay Vision, but JARVIS is gone and that still makes me sad.
AoU lacked everything that made the first Avengers movie good.  It wasn’t fun, it’s wasn’t funny, no one was very likable, it lacked cohesion, and it was just kind of boring.  And annoying.
Man, I did not realize how cranky I was about this movie until I wrote this post.  I mainly meant to write the first three sentences, but then I lost control of my emotions and had a shitpost.

do you have science bros headcanons because i watched avengers again and i have a lot of science bros feels
SURE I DO I DON’T TALK ABOUT THEM ENOUGH THANK YOU ANON
post aou tony has kept a part of research sealed bc no one can use bruce’s lab if he’s not there to approve of it
they’ve pulled all-nighters designing stuff and doing research together and fallen asleep sharing the sofa more than once actually every time
whenever bruce drops a hint that there’s something he likes (idk ‘I had such nice green tea in that forgotten village in china once’ and the likes) three days later he finds stocks of that stuff in his kitchen/cupboards. the first two times he was weirded out, the third he realized it was tony being tony and genuinely wanting to *be friends* so he just took it in stride
bruce also took it as a personal victory that one day he managed to get tony to only drink tea rather than coffee
bruce is also a+ at cooking so more than once he cooked for the both of them/occasionally pepper/whoever else was around but same way tony caught on his hints re liking tea or this particular fruit or whatever else, he gets hints about what tony actually likes to eat and tries to go for that without being told
they have amicable disagreements on which star trek series is better but they don’t disagree on anything when it comes to star wars
they’ve had late night conversation whose data jarvis deleted the moment they were done in which they had extensive talks about the not so a+ parenting they experienced and regretted they didn’t get to meet before they were both in their forties
in bed they’re totally switches actually they switch also for who’s the big spoon or the little spoon
tony’s the one breaking the ice if it comes to making sex life spicier but then he’s at first surprised and then not so much when bruce first goes like ‘okay sounds cool’ and then proposes to add something 100% more intense to the mix
bruce has also stopped worrying about opening his closet and finding out there’s three new shirts hung inside it
more than once they used the labs to build completely ridiculous shit that was never gonna work out just for the kicks
no one wants to watch scifi or scienc-y movies with them (or even the x-files) because they always end up discussing how this or that works or if it’s within the laws of physics and everyone else is just like let us watch the damned thing
at some point they made themselves friendship bracelets but no one knows that. they’re like the most complicated bracelets anyone could come up with. (obv red/yellow and green/purple.) then bruce’s got ruined when he transformed next so tony made him another and he keeps that one with his stuff rather than wearing it so it doesn’t break
everyone is surprised that bruce doesn’t mind working with tony blasting metal music from the other side of the lab but he just shrugs and goes like nothing wrong with iron maiden why is everyone assuming I only listen to classical, this while tony is basically like where has this guy been all my life (the reverse happens if bruce happens to want to work with classical)
:D
