SUBLIME CINEMA #611 - GETT: THE TRIAL OF VIVIANE AMSALEM
Ronit Elkabetz co-directed and starred in this stunning Israeli film, then died of cancer soon after it was released. The film is claustrophobic, metaphorically and physically; perfectly staged, we barely leave the courtroom where the divorce, or the gett in question takes place. It is a complete takedown of an intensely religious, male dominated system and she’s brilliant in it.
Elkabetz won in Venice and Cannes, and was one of the best of all Israeli filmmakers.

From Helen Moleswirth's introduction to Long Life Cool White "In Fifty Minutes reading is nothing less than the search for, and performance of, the self. The video shows us that we are all acts of "autofiction" and that we come to know and invent ourselves through and in the pages of books, and through and in our recitation of them for others."
Shia LaBeouf is one of the most polarizing actors around, but I’ve liked the guy and a few of his films in particular. The motivations behind his not seeming to give a fuck might lie in this film he penned, which is really well done - directed and shot by two very talented women, Alma Har'el and Natasha Braier respectively.
The film is brutal, funny - and is a gorgeously photographed rendition of LA.
