The Yellow Wallpaper

Based on the short story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper is short story, written as first person journal entries. The narrator is experiencing severe depression after the birth of a child, and her husband rents a home for the Summer, with hopes she can recover. She is confined to an upstairs nursery, where we find The Yellow Wallpaper.

As a form of treatment, the husband forbids the journal writer from working or writing, and encourages her to eat well and get plenty of air so that she can recuperate from what he calls a "temporary nervous depression – a slight hysterical tendency", a common diagnosis in women at the time. Of course, she still writes; as she descends into madness, obsessing about the wallpaper, which appears to pull her in. Seeing a woman creeping through it.

At night in any kind of light, in twilight, candlelight, lamplight, and worst of all by moonlight, it becomes bars! The outside pattern I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be. I didn’t realize for a long time what the thing was that showed behind,—that dim sub-pattern,—but now I am quite sure it is a woman... It is always the same shape, only very numerous. And it is like a woman stooping down and creeping about behind that pattern.

SO; here, we have the beautifully created pattern by @femmefatalegoth, inspired by the wallpaper described above. See if you can find the women in its intricacy.

I have added cornices and wainscotting, and a version with cornice and baseboard only.

I really didn't want to change the colour of the wallpaper , because it's The Yellow Wallpaper. So; sorry, not sorry, to those who want it in different colours - but feel free to do it yourself if you know how!

Unfortunately, due to limitations on how the wallpaper is made up in the game, I've had to do separate files to each type of cornice & wainscot:

I added the feature to make Sims tense when they're around the wallpaper!

Anyway - I hope you like these as much as I LOVE them! The colour is very bright, and it really helps you feel like the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper.

I highly recommend reading the story. Maybe you can relate it to how you have felt at some time - I certainly have.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking: are there plans to do Titus Andronicus any time soon? Do you have a schedule of plays?

We never mind you asking! We don't have a schedule for plays, but we've traditionally reserved Titus for Halloween, in a haphazard rotation with Richard III and the Scottish Play. We went to Scotland last October soooo, we shall see what this year brings!

Is Mr Poe an ex vfd volunteer?

We know that the baudelaire parents threw parties with very specific friend(s), Poe being one of them. All other friend(s) of the baudelaire parents are implied/stated to be ex/current vfd volunteers. Why would they be friend with just a random banker?

Adding on to this, Poe is always there when misfortune falls onto the baudelaire children. As if his presence there causes it. What if it actually did?

Think about it, what startles the baudelaires that leads to Dewey Denoument's death? Poe. Who gets Jacques Snicket arrested and killed? Poe. He is always there.

Who gets the news first? Poe. Who tells the baudelaires about the fire? Poe.

Adding on to @femmefatalegoth Poe is a villain theory, if he wasn't an ex-volunteer, why else would he insist on never listening to the baudelaires? He only listens when indisputable evidence is shown.

Mr Poe gets treated horribly by Olaf when they 'meet', yet he speaks of the count kindly while talking to the children.

If he was an ex-volunteer– he must've left vfd. Why, you may ask, would he have a reason to leave vfd as a volunteer? Easy.

His children. To protect them from vfd recruitment.

Also, what reason would he have to be at the Vile Village? He says he's "running with this crowd!" A vague answer. Likewise, he's familiar with the rules of the VFD village— an old vfd station.

This all makes sense if Poe is an ex-volunteer. Why he knows so much about the baudelaires personal lives? He knew their parents very personally.

A cause for his cough? One theory from popsugar.com suggests it could be from fires he might've helped set. Another personal theory of mine is that it could be to do with the medusiod mycelium. We know it makes you cough a lot as by what happens to Sunny when she ingests it.

Could a younger vfd volunteer Poe be on a mission when he was exposed to the medusiod?

In both the book and the show, one of the lines in "The End" is "at this time Mr. Poe was better known as his stage name" suggesting that he was an actor at some point. Acting is a profession that a lot of vfd volunteer take on.

It is also stated that the baudelaire(s) smell smoke around figuratively (and sometimes literally).

We know that sometimes ex-volunteers that join the 'evil' side of the schism will put on a dumb act as to not be caught. Could this be why Poe is always so stupid?

Anyways.. thats just my two cents!

AU where Renfield lived and got to be part of Team Kill Dracula?

"Have you forgotten our deal so soon?"

It's a cruel smile; sharp teeth behind swollen red lips. But the look in his eyes is what truly makes Renfield's stomach turn with disgust. Mocking and spiteful and inhuman: looking down on him as though Renfield were one of the insects he had once experimented on.

"Only I can give you what you truly desire," the Count continues smoothly. "I will give you endless lives, and in return you will be my servant as you have always been. We understand each other, do we not? What have these fools ever given you that could compare to what I offer..."

Renfield's hand curls around his knife, and he stares directly ahead as though he didn't hear: the same stubborn expressionlessness that always infuriates the Doctor so. Let the Count play his games elsewhere. They mean nothing now.

"I don't want it," he says simply.

There's a snarl of fury at that, and then he feels himself grabbed roughly by the neck and pulled bodily towards the Creature. He can hear the others cry out in fear behind him, but he himself feels a strange lack of fear. Instead, he almost feels a wild laugh rising in him. For all the Count's fingers around his throat, the man has no power over him any more.

"You think to stand against me? You are my slave, my creature; I am your Master, and you will obey-"

With a desperate shout, Renfield drives his knife into the arm that holds him, and feels a rush of joy as the red blood spurts onto the snow. Dracula releases him with a cry of pain, and Renfield staggers back, dizzy with the sudden victory.

"You will never be my Master."

Last song: Well technically... We dusted off some Byzantine chants at Divine Liturgy this morning in preparation for Pascha and Bright Week, so that's always epic. But the last, uh, relatable song was "Touch" by Daughter.

Last show: Season 2 of Shadow and Bone, aka The Wesper Show.

Currently watching: Honestly nothing at the moment. I'm open to suggestion. But tbh it will probably be yet another re-watch of The Politician because I am a loser.

Currently reading: War and Peace (god help me), The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham (I know, I know, two classics at once, but what can you do? Libby holds come in when Libby holds come in.), Salt Slow by Julia Armfield (who knew there were so many ways to explore female rage?), and The Undiscovered Self by C.G. Jung. And I'm not even in school right now. 😫

Current obsession: I have so many. But the dominant one at the moment is the gorgeous Broadway revival of Parade.
