Merry Christmas!
For Christmas I always like to make cards, since I have this block of black watercolor-paper postcards. I always try to keep them on some sort of theme or make them related to eachother, which is kinda pointless since I'm the only one who ever sees them together. But it's fun for me :) This year's theme: festive worm on a string.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also whenever I make these postcards I like to add something to the back as well. I just think it's cute to have a little painting on the back. So lil baby worms it is.

I really wanted to paint a biblically actuate Worm on a string so I did. Wormy was painted with gouache paint, acrlic ink and gold acrylic pens.

santa claus and his treats | satoru gojo x f!reader pt.1 of christmas event! wc: 3.4k oops i went overboard | cw: petnames, literally j pure fluff ur both STUPID in love, he’s the cutest! happy birthday pretty boy 🧸
Tumblr media
"'toru?" you called, voice filling the dimly lit room as you peeked your head in through the door. the curtains were drawn, the iridescent green tinsel dotted with soft yellow lights framing the doorway of your bedroom scratching your neck as you spotted the white-haired boy sitting on your shared bed, picking at something on his lower lip.
you took a moment to drink in the sight— his soft white hair that fell over dazzling sky-blue eyes, the color of the lake dotted with fragile crystalline snowflakes that melted into fresh spring streams that fed nature with new growth and fresh flower buds, a tangible warmth when his gaze fell on you and an easy smile stretched across his pink lips. a little too easy, you think. easy enough for you to miss the way he swipes a coffee brown crumb from his cheek; the smile has too much sugar and cream for you to buy it.
your eyes slowly drift from his charming grin to the rest of the room. there's a forest green tuft of leaves hanging from the ceiling on a thin golden string; you recognize the crimson red berries and waxed leaves with spots of pearl dotting as a bunch of mistletoe, hanging right over the mattress. clearly, he thought ahead.
you snuff the flush from your cheeks as he perks up at the sight of you, straightening his back. "hey, baby! you must be my present from santa this year," he laughs, holding his arms out, an invitation for you to crawl into his arms and curl up on his lap like two warm cats by the fireplace. you almost gave in— until you remembered why you were looking for him.
"you're getting coal this time, satoru." you said, huffing as you walked over to the mattress and put your hands on your hips, attempting to come off as intimidating in front of your boyfriend as you leaned over and stared down at him. he just giggled that sweet, boyish laughter of his, scooting closer and capturing you between two strong arms to tug you onto the bed with him. the sheets were soft, and they smelled like him as he pulled you onto his lap and cuddled you like a life-sized plushie, all warmth and soft comfort that he craved so much.
"aww, really? but it's my birthday today," he sighed loudly, shaking his head as he firmly planted his hands on either side of your head to prevent you from worming away and planting a loud smooch on the top of your hair, before laughing as you pulled away from his grasp and gave him a glare. “besides, you’re anything but a bad gift.” he smiles.
“don’t sweet talk me, ‘toru. you’ve been naughty this year.” he wiggles his eyebrows at that, and you shoot him a sharp glare which just earns you a light scoff, but there’s a smile mirrored on both of your lips.
(maybe they’ve met so many times in the past that they know how to copy the other flawlessly.)
"but you're already here, my love. lookin' all pretty like the angel on top of our tree." he hums, crossing his legs and holding his ankles as he rocks back and forth; the teddy bear he won you from the arcade on your first date is face planted into the pillows by his side, donning a festive red santa hat. the white fluffy pom pom looks like satoru's hair, and you stifle a laugh at the thought.
"how kind of you, satoru." and you mean it— he looks like his own christmas angel; snowy hair and pretty blue eyes clad in a loose black tee with cheap printed red and green christmas lights over his chest. he looks unfairly attractive with those gray sweatpants on, too. you wouldn't mind wrapping him up in yellow ribbon and presenting him to your parents this year as your holiday present from santa, and then having your own fun with him later. you suppose you must've been perfectly good to land him; so pretty and fun, bubbling laughter that speaks of his care in volumes. and he’s their soon-to-be son-in-law, after all. and he’s a golden catch.
but it’s time for this white betta to be put in his place; he’s gone snooping where he shouldn’t have— or rather, scavenging would be the more appropriate choice. and he’s about to be skinned for entering the lion(fish)'s den. your matching red-green plaid pajama pants won't save him this time.
"sorry, baby, but you can't talk yourself out of this one." you said firmly, scooting closer to him as you sat back on your knees and gave him a look as pointed and narrow as the icicles melting on the frosted awnings. to anyone else, you might look like a wet, angry cat— but to satoru, it was enough to strike fear straight into the center of his heart. his fight-or-flight response kicked in (it only ever did with you)— and it was as if you could see the change in his demeanor. his eyes voluntarily softened, lids drooping as a lazy smile drifted over his lips like fluffy white clouds over a pale sun on a winter's morning.
"aww, don't be like that. my princess looks so much prettier when she's happy," he coos, all milk and honey as he reaches out and catches your wrist, rubbing his thumb over your pulse beating beneath your soft skin as he brings it to his lips and kisses your knuckles. so he chooses to fight, and you almost fold— almost.
you twist your arm in his grasp, eliciting a whiny yelp of pain; getting him to let go of you as you quickly flick his forehead. even so, he lets you-- he never turns infinity on around you, even at the price of his own sanctity.
you sighed when he gave you a dramatic pout, sticking out his bottom lip as he hung his head low in defeat like a golden retriever being scolded by his owner, soft hair falling over his pretty blues. his hands come up to cradle his head, rubbing the spot where you'd knicked him. "don't play around, satoru. where are the cookies i baked last night?" you asked, reflecting his frown with a pointed glare. if looks could cut, he'd be a red christmas on the cloudlike sheets. you were tired of beating around the bush, especially when satoru had a knack for making it utterly exhausting. nevertheless, it went on.
"maybe santa came early," he quipped, giggling at his own joke. "you never know, huh? he's an unpredictable old geezer. likes his milk and cookies, or so i heard."
"didn't know santa claus had the six eyes." you deadpanned, crossing your arms over your chest and looking him square in the eyes. "and he shaved his beard off, apparently." he feigns hurt, holding a hand over his heart in mock anguish.
"i'm no thief! it hurts me to know you think of me so low, sweetheart." he sighs dramatically, shaking his head. outside, the snowy wind howls in agreement. "besides, it's my birthday. you're suffocating the spirit, honey." he drawls.
you just roll your eyes at that, crossing your arms and shifting to sit closer to him. you will your irritated expression to soften, and it's reflected in the way satoru immediately relaxes, shoulders sagging as the anxious look in his eyes vanishes like the wilting ghost of fall on a christmas eve, leaving behind the scent of bluebells and frost on the wind. he thinks you've forgiven him.
that's just what you need. for him to let his guard down so you can spring the trap on him. santa may be able to get away with his yearly trespassing, but satoru's entered the property of more than your heart this time, and it's time for his holiday retribution.
"give me your hand, satoru." you said softly, voice barely a breath above a whisper. he obliges almost immediately, scooting closer on the bed so that his knees graze against yours, and you hear him suck in a little breath at the contact as your hand finds his.
you take his palm in your own; his hands are considerably bigger than yours, but you still manage to run a thumb over the ridges of his knuckles, gently massaging the soft skin over weary bones. a sweet little noise leaves his breathless lips; it's almost like a purr, and when you glance up at him he's almost as red as the glittering velvet bulbs dangling from the primmed branches of your christmas tree. he looks away, a subtle pout weighing down on his lips as he coughs loudly, as if the amber sap of a pine tree has caught in his throat, scratchy like tree bark.
"what are you doing?" he whispers, voice rough and hoarse, like someone took a fireplace stoker and poked his throat. almost a protest.
but you can feel him melting into you, and soon enough, he’s sandwiched you between his warmth and the fluffy blankets, the scent of apples and cinnamon weaved between the strands of his soft white hair as they tickle your flushed skin. his lips are soft and pliant and warm against your own; he's all over you, hands finding your wrists to trace tender, wobbly circles over your thrumming pulse with his thumb. he's robbing your lungs of air, needy in the way he cages you between his lanky limbs, lock and key with his free hand threading through your hair. he can never get enough of you, and he throws his inhibitions to the frostbitten wind if they mean learning to resist you.
it's spread around you like ripples on the surface of a misty lake, and when he draws away to stare down at you, eyes blown wide with a certain shine in his eye that reminds you of glowing embers, jumping from the lively blossom of fire on the grated dark metal of a hearth, there's a cheeky lopsided grin on his glossy lips. his fingers are slender, pale and callused, a gentle flushed at the tips.
"there was a mistletoe," he says breathlessly, as if that'll excuse him. as if he needs an excuse to kiss you. you just laugh, reaching up to trace his jaw with a finger, and he shudders despite the heater inside your room. the bunch of green leaves and red berries hanging above you sways in agreement.
but you can't focus on the dreamy look on his face; that lazy smile that dances over his lips and illuminates his features like twinkling christmas lights catching on each edge of a carefully cut snowflake, the sky's jewels. every time he looks at you as if you've crafted each intricacy of his world; patched the colors together and taught the light to reflect, you feel as though there are bubbles in your throat, and you have to cough them away when they're accompanied by a familiar rush of heat to your face.
it's all overpowered. strongly, by the rich taste of cinnamon. rich, sweet, distinctly festive, mixed with brown sugar and cookie batter; flour on the matching aprons satoru bought for the two of you, except the 'he' on 'he cooks' has been messily crossed out and replaced with a scribble that says 'she', and vice versa. it's on his tongue, his lips, the little dips on the corner of his mouth that makes him look like a kitten every time he grins. it tastes like wearing matching christmas sweaters, sampling sweet treats fresh out of the oven and laughing cheerily in your little cozy kitchen of warmth when he burns his tongue, a sour look on his face that wrinkles his nosebridge.
but, most importantly, it tastes like condemnation.
you sit up, briefly (and painfully) knocking foreheads with him when he's too slow to mirror your actions, but the complaint that's ready to stain the air like chimney soot dies on his tongue when he sees the look on your face. you look the same as you did the first time you found out he'd forgotten to pick up megumi and tsumiki from school. in other words, pissed.
"hey, pretty girl. you should smile; you look less like an ogre when you do—" he hastily starts, laughing nervously as he runs his hands through his messy hair. you've noticed that whenever you neglect to toy with the silky soft strands when you're tangled with him, whether it be kissing, cuddling, or... something else, he'll do it afterward as if to emulate the feeling of your fingers in his hair, even if it 'screws it up'. apparently, his skyscraper ego is too fragile to ask for headscratches.
"just a minute, satoru." you cut him off through gritted teeth, lips that should be stretched in a wide smile pressed together in frustration. your eyes narrow as you straighten up, sitting back on your ankles. "you ate them, didn't you?" your fingers dig into his skin, pinching his cheek. if his skin wasn't already stained crimson with boyish excitement, it would be an angry red now. you give killer pinches; he knows firsthand.
which is why he should've thought ahead and listened to the angel on his shoulder when you were knocked out earlier, curled up in a fluffy blanket on the couch, snoozing away. what was he to do? the cookies you'd made were calling his name. and it was for his birthday, and they were made for him. so why couldn't he indulge?
this was why.
and you know you've pinned him with your accusation like a throwing dart on a cork board; the way his gaze bounces around the room and his smile turns a hint sheepish and a handful guilty speaks volumes enough before he can even protest. but he can feel your wrath like an entire mine's worth of coal in his stockings, so he quickly throws his hands up, shimmying away from your angry pinch. the sheets bunch beneath him.
"listen, sweets, i just thought that— well, i'm sorry, baby, they just looked so good. and i only ate a few! i swear." satoru says solemnly, getting on his knees and throwing himself before you. he knows you're unamused— sitting there, crosslegged, looking down at him as if he's some chewed up gum you found on the bottom of your shoe. he might as well be. blueberry flavored, maybe? or mint, he's fine with that too—
"so you did." you just sigh, flicking his hunched shoulders, before you go soft again, and he sees pink. you reach forward, fingers creeping beneath his chin to tilt his face up. his skin is soft and warm beneath your skin, thrumming with a life and heat the poor overworked radiator in your room could never measure up to. and when he does look up, his starstruck gaze meets your own; you look ethereal in the warm light, and he wonders why he hasn't put a ring on your finger or started a family with you yet. maybe that can be the last gift to top off the cake of your overflowing knitted stocking, hanging from the kitchen counter; a mahogany box with golden hinges who's shine pales in comparison to the diamond ring in the center of the velvet.
he tucks the idea into his mental notes and grins, a cheeky flash of teeth. "so you forgive me, right?"
wrong. he should know better than to push his luck. especially when it comes to you.
the hand beneath his chin creeps up his face to squeeze his cheeks together, forcing his lips to pucker like a fish out of water as he tries to escape to no avail. you glare down at him, all needles. not at all in the holiday spirit, if you ask him. his face is squishy as a pillow beneath your fingers, and a smile resurfaces on your lips after a long struggle to keep it submerged.
he opens his mouth, no doubt to wail like a newborn, and you quickly withdraw, knowing better than to continue your assault. "geez! okay, fine. sorry. i ate them, you grinch." he grumbles, rubbing his squished cheek as he pouts and looks away, shrinking in on himself. his shirt is bundled beneath his arms, slipping off one of his shoulders to expose a pleasant flush on his neck. "seriously! you're such a killjoy. there's no fun in waiting," he smiles mischievously, wiggling his toes and nudging you with his foot. the fabric of his fuzzy reindeer socks bumps against your thigh, and you make another face at the red pom poms on the crudely-knit rudolph face.
"apologize." you emphasize each syllable, letting them fall off your tongue. they jut into his side like blows to his ribs; he falls back onto the bed for extra dramatics, letting it squeak beneath his weight.
"oh, the horror! to think that i'd be reduced to such a state—"
"satoru."
"—that i, head of the gojo clan, the honored one—”
"satoru gojo."
"should be forced to bow to such pious customs at the foot of scrooge—"
"gojo!"
you reach over to threateningly pinch him again, and he rolls away, tossing a fuzzy pillow into the air and kicking it at you like he's playing some cursed form of tennis. you scowl, catching the cushion and tossing it back at him. it lands square on his face, and he whines, crying about how you've ruined his beautiful, youthfully full, gorgeous face; how is he ever going to pretend to be santa and let pretty girls sit on his lap now? —and that one earns him another pinch to his arm.
"okay, okay! i'm sorry, my love. you're not the grinch, or scrooge, and i shouldn'tve eaten the cookies." he sighs, excruciatingly slow as he inches towards you again, wary of but wanting your warmth all the same. it's too cold to be alone this morning, anyway.
"without me." you corrected, unable to wipe the light grin from your face, and you watch as his face lights up, like a kid seeing his dream christmas present in the window display of a bright shop, hidden behind frosted glass and cold air.
he sits up again, scooting close and opening his arms once more. this time, you oblige, throwing yourself onto him and wrapping your arms around his neck. now he’s the one with his back flush against the mattress, soft as a cloud of cotton candy. he laughs, and it rumbles through his chest when his hands find the back of your head and he tucks your head beneath his chin, cradling your neck.
"without—" punctuated with a kiss to the top of your head, "you." satoru finishes, and you can hear the grin in his voice, cheery as a christmas carole. his arms snake around your waist, squeezing lightly as one hand slips beneath the hem of your shirt to gently rub your back. his fingers against your skin feels like the touch of a butterfly, wings like stained glass.
"how about this, pretty? we can make more together." he suggests, resting his chin on top of your head. you're smushed into his chest, the printed material of his christmas light t-shirt scratching your face, and the only thing you can manage to breathe is the cheap cologne you bought him (you don't understand why he uses it when he could afford the best of his own), but suddenly you can't bring yourself to mind. so you nod, and he chuckles.
"d'ya still wanna do cinnamon?" he asks softly, slipping his free hand into your hair to play with the strands, holding you close and cozy in his embrace. the burning heat of friction between your numb hands or a roaring fireplace don't compare to the warmth he brings you, soft and sweet and painfully human. and you can't really make yourself feel upset at the pretty boy with snow-white hair holding you anymore.
"nah. let's do peanut butter chocolate chip." you hum, muffled, and he laughs, hearty and full, the kind that makes his entire body tremble a little. and you can feel it, so you tilt your head up to peer up at him. there's a stray pine needle in his hair; must've been from your hazardously decorated christmas tree. he looks down at you and smiles, brushing your hair from your eyes and leaning in to kiss your forehead. it’s like a crimson wax stamp sealing his love letter to you.
he cuddles you close, tufts of his soft hair tickling your face like a tacky christmas sweater. "sounds unhealthy. but whatever you want, baby. santa's gonna give you all you ask this year." and this time, he doesn't use the mistletoe as an excuse to brush his lips against yours when you move to pick the pine needle from his hair. he smells like vanilla, swirled like espresso with a hint of cinnamon.
he may have enjoyed his cookies and milk without you, but there's nowhere else he’d rather be— no one else he'd rather share the rest of his time with, be it baking, decorating, or lazy naps in each other’s arms. after all, half the jolliness of the holiday season comes from being with you.

Worm Festival isn't over until Herod makes an appearance with hundreds of worms (on a string)
... with a bonus Webber-Rice crossover
Tumblr media
Info below the cut!
Herod's jacket is inspired by the INCREDIBLE MONSTROSITY made by artist Silver Rox (I'm sure many other artists have done similar but theirs was the one that I saw first)
This depiction of King Herod is from the 50th Anniversary Tour, but specifically Reuben Kaye, of the Australian leg.
Our crossover is Joseph from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, as played by Donny Osmond in the 1999 film.
Shoutout to the beautiful Jesus Christ Superdiscord for taking a meme and making it into the gloriousness of Worm Festival 2025!

2023 Year In Review
This year once again I invited some friends and colleagues to reflect on 2023
JG Thirlwell Composer Foetus Xordox Manorexia Steroid Maximus Venture Bros Archer
2023 was an intense year. The year began with the premiere of my symphony for Alarm Will Sound and ended with guesting vocalizing with Dinosaur Jr on some Stooges classics. I completed the final season of Archer. Wrote a lot of material for new Xordox and Foetus albums. Released an album of string quartets and scored a Venture Bros movie. Worked with some great singers and premiered my Ensemble project in London. I spent several months traveling and set up a small studio in Melbourne for a bit. Road tripped through NZ with my partner, Dora. I played some excellent shows in London, Colchester, Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. I still woke up 5am in a panic on too many occasions. And I saw some great concerts. It was difficult to whittle down this list but here are a lot of albums I enjoyed in 2023, in no particular order.

Alexander Tucker (Microcorps)
I started off the year by releasing a project very close to my heart: Fifth Continent, a collaboration with the late Keith Collins, partner and collaborator of film maker and artist Derek Jarman. The album was partially recorded in Jarman’s cottage in the desert-like landscape of Dungeness, on the South East coastline of Kent, in the UK, with elements constructed from Collins own spoken word pieces, and environmental recordings. The album was released on James Ginzberg’s Subtext label, and we also produced Fifth Quarter, an anthology publication of writing, recollections, photography and newly commissioned artworks about Jarman, Collins and Dungeness.
Although I probably made more music than usual this year, and had a greater focus than ever on the various projects I have underway, 2023 felt like a weird and often frustrating year for me and music. About five years ago I set about teaching myself modular systems, experimenting, and recording the results as I went along. This culminated in a new solo guise primarily for electronics and the synthesis of voice and acoustic instruments, MICROCORPS (the debut album Xmit came out on Alter records in 2021). Using these systems is at the same time liberating and incredibly frustrating. For a while this year nothing felt good enough: I could feel the potential of my ideas glimmering in the distance but was unable to catch up with them. I decided to take a short break from the modular, and focused upon compositions for cello, saxophone, and clarinet. But the pull of electronics is never far, so I began processing these recordings, using granular synthesis to stretch, mutate and reorganise the audio into new pieces. As soon as you want more from your practice and yourself, things can become more laborious - it’s difficult to be in the moment and focus on what’s in front of you. I used to be happy with the immediate effects I produced, but I think this is being replaced by a different approach, something more considered, which is exciting and, in some ways, sobering - even if the results are far from what you would describe as sober. I’m also so lucky to have many friends and fellow artists around me to offer help and suggestions, to whom I’m eternally grateful. As R.Crumb says, “Keep on truckin”.
Music I dug this year: Godflesh - Purge (Avalanche Recordings) Rắn Cạp Đuôi - *1 (nhạc_gay) Mun Sing - Inflatable Gravestone (Planet Mu) RS Tangent - When A Worm Wears A Wig (The Trilogy Tapes) Arnold Dreybaltt And The Orchestra Of Excited Strings - Resolve (Drag City) Elvin Brandhi and Lord Spikeheart - Drunken Love (Hakuna Kulala) Mark Fell and Will Guthrie - Infoldings / Diffractions (NAKID) Afrorack - The Afrorack (Hakuna Kulala) Kinn - Dogtooth (First Light Records) General Magic - Nein Aber Ja (GoTo Records)
Live shows: Emptyset - Village Underground Elvin Brandhi - IKLECTIK Mick Harris/FRET – Downwards’ 30th, Centrala Mun Sing, Crys Cole, Penelope Trappes - Boundaries Festival  Maxwell Sterling - Cafe OTO Pole - EartH Nik Colk Void - Too many to count! Phew - Cafe OTO Residency Acid Horse Festival Devo - Hammersmith Apollo Kinn - New Cross Road Baptist Church
Comics: In 2023 I produced a new issue of my ongoing oblique and nonlinear comic series, Entity Reunion. For this issue I drew upon my love of HP Lovecraft, using the repetition of the comic format to peel back layers of the everyday to reveal omnipotent entities underlying all reality. The viewpoint of each page is from the point of view of the protagonists, who hold an electronic device, photographing their surroundings only to capture the blurred features of some insidious face. There are also references to Lovecraft’s own fictional grimoire the Necrononmicon. I wanted that dreamlike sensation of being the protagonists of the dream but also viewing yourself as separate entity.
Books: I read nearly all of Patrica Highsmith’s ‘Ripley’ books, a bunch of John Le Carré novels, Mark Kermode’s book on The Exorcist and I’m currently working my way through the spy novelist Eric Ambler’s books. I also re-read Bruce Robinson’s analysis on Jack the Ripper and Victorian society, ‘They All Love Jack’.

Music I made a (very) long list on my wildly popular blog, Abundant Living. But, for kicks and with the understanding that maybe you don’t feel like reading (or subscribing to) my wildly popular blog, here’s some stuff I included and some stuff I forgot (with particular attention paid to albums I think might be of particular interest to JG friends/fans but which may have slipped through the radar) (meaning: I mainly put the stuff that wasn’t on too many other lists). BOOKS My phone has pretty much eliminated my ability to read. I did read the first 100 pages of more books than I care to admit. I finally finished Mark Andrews’ Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Rise of the Sisters of Mercy and I recommend it if, like me, you think The Sisters of Mercy are better than the Beatles (or whatever inane comparison annoys your friends the most). I also discovered Gene Wolfe and read the first book in the Book of the New Sun trilogy. Otherwise, it’s pretty much been just using Louise Glück poetry as inspiration to write terrible versions of Louise Glück poetry.
TV Doom Patrol Pokerface Rick and Morty (idc idc idc idc) HasanAbi twitch stream  A ludicrous amount of Britbox mysteries and—passively, yes, but not without a fair amount of emotional investment—various Real Housewife shows/spinoffs
Movies Didn’t watch any new movies this year but I did have a lot of youtube videos playing in the background while I did other things, and sometimes those videos would be three hour long screeds about what was wrong with a number of movies I’d never heard of. So I feel like I got the gist.
LIFE Converted to Islam and married Zohra in January. Both choices have proven to be rewarding as all hell. Cashing in my “as a Jew I…” argument card—while simultaneously being too new a Muslim to reasonably claim either special knowledge and/or marginalization status—has really fucked with my ability to be self-righteous online. But the love that Zohra and her family have shown me has more than made up for my newfound inability to really wipe the floor with a motherfucker in the instagram comments. In fact, I liked marrying Zohra so much that I did it again in December (first time was a religious ceremony, the second time was our rendering to Caesar etc). If you know me/us and weren’t invited to either that’s because essentially no one was. As my parents couldn’t attend (on account of being dead) I didn’t really see the point of a big party. That was perhaps selfish. We love you (probably) and will have some sort of to-do in 2024.
Otherwise, I am still very much enjoying working for the new CREEM Magazine (please subscribe) and doing my newsletter (please subscribe). Musically, I lived vicariously through Zohra and the release of her first solo album. Murder In The Temple, with amazing production by Ben Greenberg and contributions by Lydia Lunch, is a synthesis of so many of Zohra’s obsessions. It’s unlike anything in the post-goth-dark-whatever sphere and I can’t express how proud I am of it and her. As for my music, I did some neat-o Scientists-esque stuff with Telematics (Sohrab Habibion, Robert Austin, and Alexis Fleisig) and Zohra and I did a Sheer Terror cover in the style of Tindersticks to commemorate Paul Bearer’s marriage. Also, I’m pretty sure my most successful band (Publicist UK) got dropped by our label (apparently taking eight years to finish a demo is a long time) so get at me if you have a low-to-mid tier label and want to put out an album of eight minute gothic metal songs with zero mosh parts, about an aging hipster loving his wife and cats and missing his dead mom and dad. C’mon, do it. You’d be printing money.

Grace Bergere
(songwriter / singer / performer)
This year was full of firsts for me!
Definitely the most musically eventful year of my life to date. I went on my first tour playing bass with my great friends in COP/OUT, supporting Days n' Daze (A band I'd been listening to for years as a young punk kid.)  I immediately realized touring is really all I want to do.  I also got to tour alongside Subhumans in Cop/Out. Meeting them and getting to know them was mind expanding.  They were all kind and humble thoughtful individuals, completely down to earth and engaged with everyone they spoke to. Every night across the midwest they brought the crowd to a cathartic screaming euphoric mess. Working with COP/OUT, whose message is so clear; to be good to each other, question everything even when it means swimming upstream with every bit of strength you have, filled me with hope.  Playing on that tour with them, and watching Subhumans every night reminded me the power of music to affect real social change which is something I believed to have been  lost in recent years.  I met my great friend Jessica Mills on that tour and we still talk all the time.
I also started playing guitar in The Art Gray Noizz Quintet. One of my longtime favorite bands (that my very talented cool boyfriend happens to play bass in.) We went all across the West Coast, landing in Las Vegas. Playing with them has demanded I advance as a guitarist, stepping into Andrea Sicco's shoes. Andrea is a complete beast of a musician and all of his musical projects are awesome. Check out MOVIE MOVIE, his most recent project.
I also joined Crazy And The Brains on second guitar. They’re a super fun high energy punk band. I love being around such positive fun loving musicians and watching them bounce around while I do my best to keep up.
I recently finished recording my album at HOBO SOUND in Hoboken by James Frazee. The time and effort it took over the several years since I started, was at times grueling. But James never stopped caring or checked out. He helped me shape this album into something I am truly proud of, along with Richard Dev Greene, one of the first people to ever believe in my music. I am so grateful to both of them.
I started spending time with Victoria and Kay of Puzzled Panther. They quickly have become two of my best friends. It is so meaningful for me to have found such badass, driven young women to share a dream with. Puzzled Panther is raw and hypnotizing. They have a unique strong hold over their audience and every show of theirs I’ve been to has been fantastic.  Victoria has joined me a few times on a song at my shows, and every time I believe has been one of the strongest points in my set.
I Met Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello (the first huge band I ever went to see as a young teenager.)  He will be releasing my upcoming single and video for “Come And Go”  on his label Casa Gogol Records in early 2024.
I just played the biggest show I’ve ever played with my solo project that plays under my name.  We were on a bill with Gogol Bordello and JON SPENCER (Also one of my favorite artists.)  Being on that stage standing there in front of more people I’ve ever seen in an audience from that vantage point, I felt like every second of my life was leading to that moment. Each song brought me back to the time in my life when Id written it and it felt very much like watching my life projected in front of me. It was indescribably satisfying to be on that stage. Later, in the audience, I screamed along to Gogol and watched my mom dance to songs she'd heard me blasting through the house as a kid, and felt just as moved by them as I did as a young teenager the first time I saw them.
I am so grateful to be working with Eugene. He is kind and thoughtful in his feedback and hugely supportive of me and my dreams.
I will be playing New Years Eve with the Art Gray Noizz Quintet before Kid Congo Powers and The Pink Monkey Birds !!
This last week I can honestly say, has been the best of my life to date. Like looking out over a valley after climbing for years.
BEST SHOWS
(other than the ones I was lucky enough to play at listed above)
RICHARD DAWSON
I got to see Richard Dawson three whole times!!! it was his first US appearance. He is a completely unique force. I’ve never seen such a captivated crowd. we all cried and screamed along with him.
PIGS X 7
One of those times he was playing with Pigs x7. They quickly became another favorite band of mine despite having severe technical difficulties. it was actually kind of a highlight because their front man just started joking around and had the entire audience laughing along with him and talking for about 10 minutes. I got to see them two other times that went perfectly. What a band..
JON SPENCER AND THE HIT MAKERS
I saw them at TV Eye. I had been able to squeeze myself into the DJ booth for their set. They hammered away into some kind of magical hypnosis that made me feel like I'd taken MDMA. (I had not.) I had to lean against a wall to keep my balance. They played with Licks, a badass 60s garage rock inspired band fronted by my friend Skunk.
LYDIA LUNCH RETROVIRUS
Also driving and hypnotic and loud as hell. I was left with a similar feeling of having been dosed with something at all of their shows…
JOSEPH KECKLER
The first time I saw Joseph perform was at TV eye with Lydia Lunch. He’s completely unique. He writes gorgeous songs that he sings in an incomprehensibly wide range, sometimes in languages that he has invented himself! His seamlessly mixes humor with honest beautiful songwriting.

I want to thank JG Thirlwell for inviting me to submit my 2023 Year in Review. I had never done one of these before and it's been a fun challenge to go through my calendar and social media to remember and realize how much I was able to pack into this year! Selecting and writing down all of these things also helped me further grasp and understand how tremendously privileged and lucky I am to be able to do what I love all year around, year after year, and to live my life to the fullest and according to my own wishes and my own design. I don't take this lightly and I don't take it for granted. I am very aware that it comes from hard work, limitless passion and unweavery dedication, not just luck and good fortune, but nevertheless I am grateful every single day for this life and for being healthy, being able to do all of this, and for all the people in my path who trust me, inspire me, support me, challenge me, and enlighten me!
STUDIO SESSIONS, ALBUMS & PRODUCTIONS When compiling this list, it really dawned on me how fortunate I am to be working with such incredible talents and how priviledged I am to be able to witness, participate and contribute to the creation of exceptional works such as the following:

MOVIES There are soooo many movies I still want to / need to see… I love movies but I prioritize work and live music in my life and I will only watch movies on planes, on (very very) rainy days or those rare times when I don't have a concert on my calendar, so here are a few of those rainy/non-concert films, in no particular order:
Killers of the Flower Moon (for the story, the acting and the soundtrack)
Equalizer 3 (because aside from its Hollywood-ish story and ending, it's a realistic look at how organized crime works in Italy)
Little Richard: I am Everything (for his story, his character, his music and his courage!)
Psychedelicized: The Electric Circus Stroy (for the amazing portrait of a time that's past but that changed NYC forever!)
American Symphony (for the amazing story, talent, spirit and courage of Jon Batiste)
32 Sounds (because my life is about sound…)
Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song (because Leonard was an amazing artist and songwriter and singer and so many friends are in this movie)
Oppenheimer (because that history is so complex and so divided as the country in which it took place)
TRAVEL Travel is the richess of life! I travel SO MUCH that I am on a plane AT LEAST once a month and usually it is to an international location… This year was no different, so I've decided to only list 12 trips for this section:
January: Ringing in the year in a medieval tower in Barcelona and spending the first 4 days of the new year trying all the tapas bars, restaurants, food stands this beautiful city has to offer and seing the Sagrada Familia cathedral for the 3rd time in my life
February: Living in Amsterdam for 3 weeks visiting all the musuems, all the music venues and all the while working at the Dutch National Opera with some amazing folks (see list above)
March: Snowboarding the Swiss and the French alps
April: Visiting Knoxville Tennessee for Big Ears (easily the best independent music festival in the US!!!) for the 2nd time in 2 years, and hopefully the beginning of many more visits in the future!
May: Spending time in sunny Los Angeles and plotting a way to spend more time there and make music
June: Visiting London twice in one month to work and see amazing music shows, theater shows and art exhibits
July: coming back from London on July 6th only to realize that strangely there is no travel for the rest of this month! So weird and unusual!
August: Spending the month in Puglia, Southern Italy eating good food, kitesurfing in the Adriatic and Ionium sea, seeing tons of concerts and playing one myself!
September: arriving in Mexico City and getting my very own police escort motorcade to make it in time from the airport to the theater
October: On tour with John Zorn in Italy, France and the Netherlands
November: Flying to Los Angeles with a 36 hour notice for a concert I was hired for in secrecy having been told "we need a mixing engineer who can mix music for a room full of musicians" and showing up for the Robbie Robertson tribute orgnaized by Martin Scorsese with people like Joni Mitchell and Leonardo DiCaprio in attendance
December: DC-to-DF aka flying to Washgington DC to work at the White House and then flying straight to Mexico City I've finished the year with travel to my motherland of Switzerland, my fatherland of Italy and my second home of London UK!

Who: @envygolmaal Where: Progress Day Notes: I have not read the most recent plot drop, I try to trick myself into more activity by immediately tip tapping as soon as I boot my computer instead of reading as i do have a habit of reading more than writing, plus i got the brain worm for this before the plot drop, as discussed i am so happy to have various threads w u so if we want to drop a post plot drop thread I'm happy too!
The pirates of Neptune's Fleet were out-doing themselves with the liquor they downed, whiskey was all she tasted and it was a satisfying distraction from the fact that she woke to the lingering dreams of dark eyes that beckoned for her to take all she wanted. Laughter bellowed around the crew, they had many demons and yet nothing could touch them as they strolled through the progress day festivals, the view of the sea never lost from their vision and her eyes skate through the thinning crowd, Robin and Elokian had disappeared to chase tail and she had decided to return to the ship.
It appears as if she spotted them before the entangled couple became aware of her presence, not for the first time envy coils in her chest, threatening to strangle as jealously floods her as she recognizes Golmaal in the heated embrace, with a scornful flick of her hand, she pulls the strings of the stranger and they fly into the water with a scream. They were due for a dunk and there were advantages to being a puppet master. "Careful, amateurs fall easily"

i still think about your togame scenario where he saw reader hustling people at a festival………….. swoon 😔
AH AMIRA thank you for this brain worm today
Cause like reader is swindling HARD wearing the cute clothes, her little draw string coin purse and the geta that make her "trip up"
Misdirection is so easy, especially when you're so pretty. Extra pressure on his forearm as he steadies you while your feather light fingers lift his wallet with your other, sliding it up your sleeves as you fake tears in your eyes.
Sometimes even bold enough to life designer watches and rings from the much older men you leave lingering glances on you. You look so sweet, so innocent with those tears welling in your eyes but only Togame sees the real you. Sees that cat like smile as you look over your riches and stuff them in your obi belt or second layer in order to avoid accusations by easily opening your coin purse with your few yen jingling inside.

Oooh if you read MHA what did you think of the ending ?
Oh man.......... Where do I even start....
For context, I've adored MHA since season 1 of the anime first dropped. It was probably my main fandom for at least five years. The first fic I ever posted to AO3 was an MHA fic. I obsessively kept up with weekly manga leaks, and even helped translate the raw Japanese for friends in discord servers.
It was never a perfectly written manga, and I was fine with that. The writing was on the wall since the Overhaul Arc, where cracks started showing with character bloat, constant sidelining and awful treatment of female characters, and out of control power creep. I think the manga could've been a lot better if Horikoshi wasn't crushed by the brutality of the publishing demands of Shounen Jump. But I thought at its core, the story had a wonderful heart, and that was what kept me in love with it.
I fell out of MHA in around 2021 with the Deku vs Lady Nagant fight, because when she blew up from the AFO failsafe I pretty much rage quit over the fact that every time a woman got to do or be something cool, Horikoshi found a way to rip it away from us. I wasn't really feeling the story anymore, so my love for the manga became overshadowed with my frustration and I decided to move on for awhile (and then my friends got me into DSMP lol). Also the fandom was toxic AF and that was not helping. For instance, I have some criticisms of the overall writing of the Todoroki family plot, but some people chose to interpret every manga panel and line of dialogue in the worst faith imaginable, threw a fit over it every week, and it was just exhausting. The LOV were some of my favorite characters too, but that section of the fandom was a cesspool of negativity sometimes. (Of course, other portions of the fandom had their own issues too, but I wasn't around to see all of it).
I still kept tabs on the story to this day, and while I thought the final arc was heading into a rushed mess, I loved the thematic direction that the story was going in. That Midoriya, Uraraka, and Shouto were going to be better heroes than all that came before them by saving the villains.
Then, uh, we got the most depressing endings imaginable.
I could forgive the flaws of the ending and walk away from the story happy if it hadn't lost its heart along the way. It's just baffling to me that a series that began with the Deku saying "This is the story of how I became the greatest hero" ends with him failing to save the person who needed it the most. Shigaraki is the saddest character in the manga and Deku, our protagonist, who back in the Sports Festival Arc would break all his fingers twice over just to get through to a friend, had to kill him instead of saving him. It's bleak. It's a tragedy. And it makes no sense that we are experiencing this tragedy in the same chapter where somehow Edgeshot of all people survived by becoming a sentient worm on a string. Where Hawks's solution to fix a hero system that enabled domestic abusers to flourish and used assassins to 'keep the peace' is to hand out participation trophies. Like????? Meanwhile 17-year old Toga has to die of blood loss even though Gran Torino gets disemboweled on a monthly basis and Best Jeanist has no lungs. There's also the whole issue of how the story seemed to show that having a clear #1 hero and that responsibility being on one man's shoulders (All Might) was a bad thing. But then the power scaling got so out of control that the same burden was placed on Deku's shoulders 😭😭. I'm just baffled lol. It's so odd that we are flip-flopping between a bleak tragedy/cautionary tale and a cartoonishly simplistic way of looking at the world. Idek, but no matter what I wish the best for Horikoshi's health because I think it's clear that this manga took a huge toll on him.

Letters from a Ghost ( Gortash x GN!Dark Urge )
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/53105458
This will mostly just be a bunch of short drabbles/letters from the pov of Gortash.
1.
Festivities had long been underway. Enchanting notes rose from the strings of a lute, the lyrics of a ballad long forgotten with each of their repetition. Friends and acquaintances swapped stories while enjoying refreshment or boasting loudly of their victories. The fine decor brought an ethereal warmth as golden firelight shimmered through the same encampment that had found itself once again alive with the same faces that only months before had struggled so deeply against their cursed worm-addled fates. It felt good, familiar. With all that was happening in the world, it was as if the great chaotic currents of time had finally eased enough to offer a welcome reprieve and an invitation to look back and take note of all that was gained and lost and all that remained unchanged, to smile, to mourn. And there was, in general, much to celebrate and many faces with stories of their own to tell. But in these momentary pauses of repose and laughter, not everyone had the pleasure of doing the same.
Wyll had requested them by name earlier that evening after all had settled down and the others were finally tucking away for the night, too sloshed to walk unsupported to find an actual bed to rest their heads, not that the encampment had any besides a few favorable looking bedrolls. Durge was more than surprised when Wyll walked over alone with purpose to speak to them quietly, a sizeable chest clutched tight against him. When his gaze swept upward and met theirs, Wyll nodded in turn to them. Durge merely followed and readjusted their own arm to shift their blade down comfortably against their hip while Wyll lead them quietly out of the festivities.
Their silence was punctuated only by the clanking of the rapier on Wyll's belt and the gentle crackle of the camp fire still flickering to keep its latest drunk-addled wards company until sleep finally took them. Once outside in the open, far enough that any conversations could be kept private without disturbing those who'd retired for the evening, Wyll paused and spun around to face his friend. Durge regarded him warily, though curiosity was peppered into their expression.
"I thought perhaps you might want the chance to.. see what we had found among the rubble." Wyll spoke, finally revealing his charge which appeared to be an unremarkable looking box. Scuffed charred edges with a distinct carving that if looked at closely, was a haphazardly carved E.G...
Durge's eyes flashed a moment, hearkening back to what seemed now to have taken place lifetimes ago. A red string renewed. A snap on the chord of life. And then death. They said nothing, their jaw set. And that familiar coil of despair was once again tightening deep within their throat. A constriction in their chest, like someone had thrust a hand in and began squeezing their heart. The feelings rushed them unexpectedly and they stood stiff, fighting for composure. Wyll did not seem deterred and continued, oblivious.
"It's not my place to ask." Wyll spoke lowly, "or my place to judge. What once was, was. What you want to keep or part with, is yours. I just felt it should go to someone who had the right. It didn't feel right to destroy, despite my personal... distaste of its origins."
Wyll stepped forward and held out the chest, an offering to a companion. Durge stood dumbstruck, staring at the box. Without question, or thought even, they reached up, and took the chest. Lighter than anticipated, to be sure. Wyll hovered a second longer, words left on his tongue before stepping back again with a firm nod.
"I will leave you to the remainder of the night. I have something that must be attended to... before I can sleep." His head was bowed low, not meeting Durges eyes, and yet the glaze had returned. If he had looked Durge in the eye then, they wondered if he might have seen a ghost. A shadow of themselves that had not graced the living world with as much of a whisper nor touch. And Durge would have given anything for a ghost to lay witness upon that evening as they scoured the contents of a dead man's chest and the history to which was once given into the world. A story gone from the fabric of memory and only to be known through the few things left behind. A scattering of pieces. Of one's self. Much like they had been.

Deck the Halls with Haunted Lights
TIMING: Current LOCATION: The Elysium PARTIES: Dis and Arden SUMMARY: Arden goes to investigate some unusual attacks involving a sentient string of Christmas lights at the Elysium. Dis finds her, tells her its not safe and before the two can leave the lights attack! WARNINGS: None!
There had been a compromise — there had to be. Despite most of their staff being bound by their words, there was a firm stance on decorating for the holidays. Dīs didn’t like the lights. They didn’t like the lights especially when they twinkled or flashed in any way. But they had learned something through the year about caring for their hirelings, about caring for others in general, so they obliged in a way.
There were a few trees littered throughout the hotel and casino floor, all decorated with shiny ornaments of a variety of shapes and sizes. Tinsel lined railings and curled around stairways and pillars and on desks. The trinkets were the best part. The lights, on the other hand, were a little different. They were muted, still colorful, but dimmed to the nymph’s liking.
Despite the festive atmosphere, the hauntings continued. They’d heard through the sea of sightings and complaints about ‘Christmas lights coming alive’; apparently a strand of it nearly killed a guest and then went after one of the cleaners. Like the rest of Elysium's ghost stories, word met the outside world quickly and people grew curious — and fearful. Some came with paper and pencil, others with ‘ghost hunting’ equipment, and few came with holy water.
Dīs was in the hallway that evening, searching, looking. They would free whoever became entangled, a victim to the paranormal that hunted the third floor. It was quiet, though, and the only visible string of lights were the ones that were meant to be there. Nothing looked quite out of place — not yet. A room door opening caused their attention to shift behind them.
Arden didn’t know what to think about the Elysium. She knew it was run by Teagan’s fae friend, and she did really appreciate that they had opened up the hotel to folks who were displaced by all the goo nonsense. However, she had heard a few things about the joint hotel and casino. It was mostly rumors, to be fair, but, casinos always felt so sketchy to begin with, and, well… there had been some strange occurrences recently. Enough so that she had to look into it. So, after reaching out to a few of the previous hotel guests online, she made her way back to Worm Row.
It was strange how out of place she felt in her own neighborhood, but she supposed she hadn’t been living in since the very start of October. That, and the only times she had gone back since then had been to visit Teagan’s petrified body. Seeing the area, still half covered in goo, filled her with a peculiar feeling of sadness, the kind that had yet to stop plaguing her despite the nix’s return. She’d ignored it, though, focusing instead on the task at hand.
It was strange walking into the Elysium. It was an odd mix of retro and modern design that really seemed to work, the combination creating a rather classy, timeless sort of feeling which was only assisted by the lack of any clocks or calendars or windows. And while that fit with what she knew about most casinos, unlike the others which were very bright in order to keep people from noticing the passage of time, the Elysium was rather dimly lit.
The hotel side was no different, either, and between the endless hallways and the darkness, it all gave the place more of an unsettling vibe. Arden almost felt like she was in The Shining, walking down the halls of the third floor– the floor that people had been reporting was the hotbed for strange occurrences. She wandered until she noticed an open door to an empty hotel room, and after a moment of hesitation, she walked in to survey the room. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for her, despite a thorough look around, it just appeared to be a normal, rather nice, hotel room. So after a few more moments of poking around, she left, only to come face to face with the owner themself.
“Oh, hi,” she greeted, face lighting up in recognition. “Dīs, right? You’re Teagan’s friend.”
The journalist — they’d spoken online before and a meeting was long overdue, they supposed. They liked Teagan a great deal and it was only natural for them to, at some point, meet her significant other. Friend felt like such a foreign term to Dīs, but they supposed it was true. They did care about her, more than some others they interacted with even on a daily basis, and have spent “quality time” with her. Friend seemed to fit the mold. The idea of it did make them feel warm inside. Maybe even happy.
They didn’t expect to see her now, though. Maybe a guest or housekeeper or even the string light ghost itself — but not Arden. Dīs pursed their lips, looking very much frazzled and disappointed. They didn’t want to see her there. They didn’t want anything to happen to her. If something happened to her, they weren’t really sure what Teagan would do.
“Yes, hello, apologies for my bluntness but: what are you doing here? It’s not exactly… Safe, at the moment.” The side of the wing they were in had been empty since word got out — before that, Dīs was content with letting the ghost do what it craved to do, as long as the lampade could get something out of it as well. Now it was a nuisance and they wanted it gone.
“Come, we should go.” Before the lights find us, was what they wanted to say, but it seemed it was too late for that. Just around the end of the corner, at the end of the hall, a red light started to glow and illuminate the wall.
Yeah, okay, that was a fair response. But the manner in which they spoke helped to reassure her that whatever was happening wasn’t Dīs’ doing.
“Yes, sorry. I was hoping to talk to you about that, actually.” Arden didn’t really have to feign any sheepishness– she hadn’t expected she would be caught snooping around by them, of all people. “There’s been enough rumbling around that my boss wanted me to look into it.”
Was this the best idea? No, obviously. The last time she’d gone looking into sketchy shit, she’d almost become a vampire’s dinner. But that had helped motivate her to learn how to protect herself, and she hadn’t come entirely unprepared, either. She had her knife, of course, and she’d invested in another cross necklace– this time with a more sturdy chain– but she’d also made sure to bring some salt along with her camera and voice recorder.
Dīs didn’t want her there, though, and she wasn’t going to fight them on it. She didn’t want to piss off Teagan’s friend, and being obstinate right then likely wouldn’t get her very far anyway. However, it seemed that the trouble had found them.
A red light blinked on at the end of the hall, casting an eerie glow over the area, and nothing happened for a moment. But then the light started to travel down the hallway, steadily making its way toward them. “Do you know what it is?” Arden asked warily, keeping her eyes on the approaching as she backed up. From what she’d heard, it sounded like a spirit of some sort– poltergeist maybe?
Oh. So, she was there like all the others, then. Their boss wanted her to show up, to investigate the goings on in their hotel. A flutter of irritation burned in the back of their throat, but they couldn’t be too angry. It wasn’t her fault — right? She seemed a little guilty, at least for being somewhere she wasn’t supposed to, at least before speaking to them. They also weren’t entirely sure if Arden was even staying in the hotel to begin with. There was a good chance they were jumping to conclusions.
Regardless, she needed to leave. “We can speak on the way down,” or their office, but truthfully, they just wanted to get her onto the elevator at least. So they had started to at least direct her in that way, unfortunately, when the light appeared. They shook their head; there were many types of ghosts and specters, they were no expert. All they knew was that string lights, the ones people liked to wrap around trees and handrails and along rooftops, shouldn’t be able to move on their own.
It became more visible, then. The bulbs interchanged in color, from red, green, blue, orange, purple — and again, over and over until it reached the end. It slithered along the floor, lighting its way.
“Christmas lights. But aside from that, no.. No I do not. I know we should leave. Now.” In that moment of trying to direct Arden towards the elevator that sat in the middle of the hallway, some good feet from where they were, the lights disappeared. It was dim in the hallway and those lights were visible — incredibly so. There weren’t a lot of places the colorful cord could run off to, especially not with those lights.
“Did you see where it went?”
It was almost comical, the way the blinking string of lights slithered across the floor like a snake. If it wasn’t being manipulated by some ghost– or maybe it was cursed?– and working its way toward them, at least. Arden was struck once again by the absurdity that was her life since she had made the wise decision to move back to Wicked’s Rest. Even more absurd? Despite it all, she didn’t entirely regret her decision.
Clearly they were Christmas lights, she could see that much for herself. But it appeared Dīs was none the wiser on the specifics themself. They really seemed determined to get her to leave, then, not allowing any room for argument on the matter as they tried to shepherd her back to the elevator.
She only looked away for a moment, distracted by the fae’s movements, but it was enough time for the damn lights to slither off somewhere.
“No.” And it was rather annoying. “Damn thing’s fast when it wants to be,” she muttered, glancing around the hall. She almost missed the movement, but there was a slight shift of the dark rug that ran down the hall. Raising a brow, Arden caught Dīs’ eye, pointing to the rug without saying a word. As if the light or whatever was controlling it would’ve heard them.
Fast was an understatement. No wonder it was so successful in catching unsuspecting guests. Regardless of how bright it was, it seemed effective at avoiding detection until the very last moment — until it striked.
Thankfully, it had some bulk to it, as Arden was able to point it out from underneath the hallway runner. Clever girl. At least they knew where it was and currently, it sat in front of them. The elevator was still clear. “Perhaps if we keep our eye on it,” they whispered, also unsure if the creature could hear them or not, “we may make it to the elevator without—”
The string lights were smarter than what anyone gave them credit for. Before Dīs could take a step back, they felt something grab at their wrist. The other end of the set of lights had slithered to the other side of the rug, effectively using the plug side as a distraction. The lampade’s forearm turned to shadow, then, causing the lights to fall, but as Arden had expertly deduced previously — it was fast when it wanted to be. It grabbed at the nymph’s other wrist while its end slipped from beneath the rug and headed towards Arden.
Its eyes — it had eyes? — were trained on Dīs. It seemed angry. But if it had eyes, that meant something could be done about it. They used their free hand and draped it over the makeshift eyeballs that looked unusually like the bulbs that blinked furiously along its string body. The limb became black and darkened as much as they were able, focusing the energy around them to blind the creature that attacked them.
Seeing how fucking fast the thing was, she was alright with the idea of getting the fuck out of dodge. Of course, before they could actually do that, it struck as if it were an actual snake. Maybe it could hear them?
Before she could blink, it was wrapped tightly around Dīs’ arm. Arden reached for her knife as the fae’s arm evaporated into darkness. A lampade. Huh. That would explain why the hotel was so fucking dark.
The thing was persistent, though, grabbing the fae’s other arm. She wanted to help them out, but
there was another flash of movement as the rest of its body (?) darted out from under the rug, and straight toward her. All the training she had been doing since that vampire incident seemed to be working, as her body was moving before she was really able to process everything that was happening. She rolled out of the way of the snake light thing, avoiding its attack.
Unfortunately, that meant it was that much closer to Dīs, and she watched as the whole damn thing began to coil around the lampade. Lights versus a lampade. That was bad, probably.
Luck was not very kind to them, was it? Despite the new blinders added to the light snake’s face(?), it seemed to know exactly where to go. Arden was able to avoid it a lot more deftly than they expected from her, but they were actually glad for it even if that meant that the attention was now solely on them.
It was strange. They could almost feel its anger, its hate, seep out of it as it wound itself around Dīs’ middle and one of their legs. This wouldn’t have been the worst bind that they’d gotten themself in, if it wasn’t for the lights. Even though it wasn’t plugged in, it was able to brighten and dim each of its bulbs that lined the twisted, braided cord.
Each one was burning bright. And they did indeed burn.
It made it difficult to go intangible, as if it knew that. With a twist of their arm, they were able to get a section beneath their foot, pinning it and crushing a few bulbs in the process. Their golden eyes looked about the hallway, but there was nothing but the pair of them and the Christmas lights from hell. How were they supposed to take care of this?
“I don’t - suppose -” Dīs hissed when a bulb grazed their cheek, “- you have any - ideas?”
Okay, yeah, evil string lights weren’t great for the nymph of darkness. That did track.
It was hurting Dīs, clearly. And presumably it was keeping them from poofing into darkness like they’d done with their arm– otherwise, she didn’t know why the hell they wouldn’t just be doing that right now. They managed to crush some of the bulbs, but that didn’t get it to stop. So, knife in hand, Arden cautiously approached the fae, eyeing the lights the whole time.
“Try to stay still– I don’t want to cut you.” She instructed, before trying to slip her hand under one of the cables on their wrist in an attempt to loosen it and keep the blade away from the fae. It was holding on tight, though. So, she went for an area it had wrapped around multiple times, and holding Dīs’ arm steady, she sliced through the wires.
Weakened by a set of Christmas lights — how embarrassing. There was a small glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, Arden wouldn’t speak word about this. But they didn’t have much of it considering her choice of employment. And Teagan. They would never live this down, would they?
Dīs obliged; they did their best to stay still, despite the burning and the writhing of the lights themselves. They could feel one end wack aggressively against the back of their legs as it fought against Arden’s grasp. They did their best to keep their hand over the creature’s eyesight; that, at least, gave some advantage.
With some struggle, they watched as she was able to get her knife wedged into a good spot and made short work of the coiled wire. The majority of the string lights loosened from around their body; it stilled in their hand, the eyes having stopped moving beneath Dīs’ palm. Was it dead?
They retracted the shadow, pulling the string from their torso quickly in case it was still actually alive. The view beneath their hand sported lifeless eyes and then they were gone. The eyes disappeared, leaving a set of ordinary looking, if broken, lights. Dīs uttered a small sigh before looking at the other end that had fallen to the floor. “I think you did it,” they finally stated before dropping the other end to meet its bottom. “Th - I appreciate your help with that.”
“I don’t want to find out, though. Come. I’ll have someone else take care of this..” A little shaken, but still determined to leave, the lampade once more directed Arden towards the elevators, hoping that that was it for the Christmas terror.

Mystictober Day 7-- Festival/Music
[Set after Gummy Worms.]
You find Saeran backstage, tuning his guitar for what has to be the fifteenth time this evening. “Nervous?” You ask, ignoring the comfy-looking office chair to establish yourself on the floor beside him.
“Hm,” Saeran agrees, “Needs new strings.”
“Well, if only you had like a million of those,” you quip, withdrawing a package of strings from your bag and tossing them to him. “You're welcome.”
“Thank you, prince(ss),” Saeran deadpans, though you can tell he's serious about his gratitude— after all, he leans in just a little bit closer, brushing his shoulder against yours. “I thought I was going to have to keep coming back here for tuning all night. How did you know?”
“I may not be a guitar expert, but I know that lots of tuning means it needs to be restrung,”  you explain, “And I knew that security would lose their minds if you tried to leave, Mr. Headliner. Good thing I'm non-essential, right?”
“You're essential,” Saeran assures you, already laying his guitar down to begin restringing it. “And they couldn't stop me from leaving.”
You suppose he does have a point— Saeran has a history of showing up late for his own performances, though, in  his defense, instances of this have become few and far between since he broke his contract with Mint Eye Entertainment and established himself as an independent artist. You suppose that nobody would be able to do very much about it if he decided to leave the festival and come back later, even if he missed his set time. “Well, you have me,” you point out, “So you don't need to.” You wrap your arm around his waist, careful not to disrupt his careful work.
“I'm glad,” he hums, clearly focused on removing the old strings from his favorite guitar. For the vast majority of Saeran's career as the idol Unknown, he smashed almost every instrument that he purchased , so he never had much time to get attached to them. Now that his shows are few and far between, he's had the freedom to develop a bond with this specific guitar, which he has affectionately nicknamed MC.
“Are you nervous?” You can’t help but ask again. It's his first show in a while, after all.
“Not really,” Saeran admits, “I'm looking forward to playing. It's been so long since I had a big audience.”
“You've got a lot of fans out there,” you report, “I think I even saw some Unknown merch.”
“Hm.” You can tell that Saeran is lost in thought as he works on changing the next string.
“What's on your mind?” You ask, tightening your grip a little bit. It's so nice to be alone together backstage before the chaos really begins— the openers will be here soon, and, like everybody else, they'll be chomping at the bit to meet Saeran. You suppose you can't really blame them— he's pretty cool, after all.
“This festival invited me four times,” he reports after a few more moments of consideration, “But Mint Eye turned them down every year. They wouldn’t let me do anything that didn’t make them any money.” Of course the festival that Saeran is playing at this evening would fall into that category— its claim to fame is that all of the proceeds from ticket sales go to charity.
“Oh,” you breathe. “They wouldn't let you play charity shows?” From what you know about Mint Eye, this revelation is not exactly a surprise.
He shakes his head. “That was why I set the bass on fire.”
You can't help but smile, remembering the famous stunt. “Of course it was.” Even when he was trapped in that horrible contract, Saeran was never afraid to stand up for himself. He's one of the bravest people you know, and he always has been. “I'm proud of you.” You press a kiss to the top of his head. “You're gonna do great out there.”
“Mhm,” Saeran hums, clearly flustered by your sudden display of affection. But he sets his guitar down, halfway through restringing it, to squeeze your hand in silent thanks. “Of course I am.”  He replaces his expression of open-mouthed wonder with a smug smirk. You really should have seen that coming.
“I love you.” You figure that you'd better let him know now, before the backstage area gets too crowded. Saeran isn't big on public displays of affection for a multitude of reasons.
“I love you, too,” he replies, giving you a kiss on the cheek before returning to his work.

I really enjoyed your headcanons your headcanons are awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖
Can I request a CanLiet(Hws Canada x Hws Lithuania)headcanon 🏕🎁📙
You came back for another ask 🥺 thank you so much!!
🏕: At times, Matthew will take Tolvydas on a little camping trip with him. They go stargazing, roast some sausages/fish/beetles (and try not to let Tolvydas' pet wolf steal them, because YOU KNOW he will if you give him half a chance!), make s'mores, tell scary stories around the campfire (Matthew watching Tolvydas get excited and invested in the story as he tells one of the scariest horror stories he can think up at the moment), go hiking, watch the sunset, play some games together, have picnics (once again, they gotta make sure Tolys' pet wolf DOES NOT steal any!), snuggle in a hammock, go fishing, etc.
For winter camping, they pick a nice campground with plenty of hills, good to go sledding. They also get to walk around and/or skate on a frozen lake, go hiking in the snow, have warm food/drinks next to the campfire, have hot cocoa, ice fishing, bonfires, go to a natural hotspring, and ride snowmobiles.
For spring camping, they have picnics, visit a local farmer's market, do some mini golf, bonfires, hike though the beautiful blossom-trees, fly some kites, paddleboat, etc.
For summer camping, they throw water balloons at each other (as the pet wolf barks at the water balloons flying back and forth), shoot each other with waterguns (the pet wolf keeps trying to get in the middle of it, and gets splashed with the waterguns), tye-dye some shirts together, go swimming in the lake (Tolys decides to start a splash fight with Matt in the lake), bonfires, go kayaking, try some waterskiing, etc.
And for fall camping, they go apple picking, visit local fall faires/festivals, bonfires, carve some pumpkins, go to a corn maze, a hayride, horseback riding, go on a date in a pumpkin patch, play football, go hiking through the trees with the colorful leaves, have some local apple cider, have some caramel apples, and go to drive-in horror movies together.
🎁: For Tolvydas, they often give Matthew homemade candies, cookies, chocolates, cakes, and any other homemade goodies. They also give scented candles, some trinkets, a handwritten card with some cute drawings and pressed leaves/flowers/an extra trinket or two, some knitted socks/clothes/coaster/scarf, a pretty rock they found, some of their foraged mushrooms/berries, "friend"ship bracelet, cute little clay sculpture they made, worm on a string, "friend"ship pins, magnets, etc
For Matthew, he often gives Tolys......... A book he figured they would like, something he's seen them eyeballing when walking through stores/shopping districts/malls, a soft and/or fluffy jacket (fluffy, like that hair of theirs that Matt loves!), flowers (which, they tend to eat.. But, hey, better than them just sitting on the counter and dying!), a handwritten card with some cute drawings, pressed flowers, and a few extra trinkets, a plushy, a fidget, etc.
📙: Well, Tolvydas really loves classic literature, like... Alice in Wonderland, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
For Matthew, he reads a lot of manga, such as....... Mob Psycho, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Attack on Titan, Naruto, Komi Can't Communicate, Demon Slayer, Spy x Family, Tokyo Mew Mew, Toilet-bound hanako kun, haikyu, one piece, etc.
