Being married to Finarfin hc
Pairing: Finarfin x reader
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
♡ Every morning he cuddles up to you and presses gentle kisses on your shoulders and cheeks to wake you up
♡ if you are awake earlier than him and have already gotten up, he looks for you, wraps his arms around you and buries his face in the crook of your neck
♡ He insists on having breakfast with you every morning, no matter what
♡ Sometimes Finarfin has to work late in the evening, which is why he wants to spend at least the morning with you every day of your shared life
♡ sometimes brings you flowers during the day or has others bring them to you, if he can't bring them to you personally then he writes sweet letters for you
♡ Couldn't bear the thought of you feeling unloved
♡ If you wait for him to come home in the evening and fall asleep, he will carry you to bed to cuddle you
♡ If you are still awake when he comes back, he still wants to spend some quality time with you
♡ Sometimes you dance in the soft light of the stars
♡ other times your head is on his lap and Finarfin strokes your hair while he reads you a book
♡ When he is very stressed, Finarfin may want to go to sleep straight away in the evening, but he would never tell you for fear of making you feel unloved
♡ You then have to gently get Finarfin to come to bed and reassure him that everything is okay

For the Valentine request; there's never enough Galadriel and Celeborn art imho
You know what?? I think you´re right!
Tumblr media
Okay, so I have a headcannon about Galadriel being the tallest of Finarfins children. I´m not going to explain more other than she´s mommy and probably always wears something with innerboob showing.

Did you know that one of the juiciest shit you have ever provided me in the "elwing defense" is the fact that Elrond considers himself a sindar more than a noldo, that he acknowledges Elwe's lineage and not Turgon or the deluded feanorian lineage. Because that shit had me going "WAIT WHAT?"
Not trying to be ungrateful but the amount of fics and au/headcannon I've read has Elrond reuniting with the feanorians, hating Thingol or Finarfin, and anyone else but acknowledging himself as descendant of the feanorians, even going as far as wearing their symbol and color, so imagine my face when I realize it never was like that, that it was another fanon vs canon that got so popular and has me reeling cause bruh
Haha yeah, Elrond's own canonical feelings on his lineage are often ignored in the "Elrond considers himself Feanorian" takes.
That's not to say he could never have felt otherwise in his life--but as a late-age adult, he seems pretty clearly to have settled with identifying with Earendil as his father, and primarily with the line of Thingol through Elwing as his heritage. His connection to both of them is pretty heavily emphasized in the LotR chapters that take place in Rivendell (which also emphasizes their place as heroes of Middle-earth--see Bilbo's poem).
This doesn't even mean he can't have affection or care for Maglor (or Maedhros), but it does say that at least by this stage in his life, he does not harbor resentment towards his parents or ancestors, and he doesn't identify as a Feanorian or even particularly with the line of Fingolfin, and that he firmly considers Earendil and Elwing his parents.

Can you tell me something about Finrod and Amarie's relationship? Like lore or headcannons.
Okay, first off, this sounds like i'm being asked for a bedtime story and i LOVE that.
anyway
as for canonical lore, we know next to nothing very little about Amarie. Things we know about her include:
her name, which may be from the elements for "good" or "home"
she was a lady of the vanyar
she did not go into exile--- in some versions, because she was not permitted (though we don't know for sure who was doing the forbidding afaik)
Things we know about her relationship with Finrod:
they were in love but not married
they were reunited after finrod's re-embodiment
galadriel didn't seem to know about it
That's it. But the fact that she's named in the silm means there's as much or more info on her in there than on some of the finweans (Argon, Findis, Lalwen) which i take to mean that her and Finrod's story is Important in understanding Finrod overall.
I, personally, have a somewhat elaborate and ever-shifting set of headcanons about them. this is the current iteration:
Amarie and Elenwe are related to each other. Some degree of cousins, probably. They are also very good friends.
Amarie is an artist who is renowned for her murals, in particular. At some point she's commissioned to paint something in Taniquetil and meets Ingwe, who strikes up a conversation because he's just kind of a friendly guy in general.
Ingwe decides that he likes her
Fast forward to Elenwe and Turgon's wedding. Amarie is there. Finrod is there. Ingwe is also there.
Ingwe spots Amarie and chats with her for a while before going "Have you met my great-nephew??? You should meet him. I think you'd like him." and then dragging her along to find Finrod.
They hit it off and start meeting up to wander around Aman (yes I'm aware of the Nerdanel and Feanor parallel) because Finrod likes exploring and Amarie finds all kinds of interesting scenes and landscapes to draw
Cue slow-burn mutual pining friends to lovers that lasts several centuries because elves
Unfortunately, by the time they get around to admitting how they feel about each other, the Noldor are in upheaval and mistrust between the Vanyar and the Noldor is at an all-time high. If the public found out that a Noldorin prince (even an Arafinwean) was in a relationship with a Vanyarin woman, there would be chaos, especially among the Noldor
They decide to get engaged with a small number of witnesses (I lean towards thinking that it's their parents plus Elenwe and Turgon), even though it could be literal centuries until a wedding wouldn't cause rioting in the streets. they tell no one else.
Soon after, the Darkening of Valinor occurs, and Finrod is faced with a choice
He talks to Amarie, and she essentially gives him permission to go on without her. I go back and forth on what "not permitted to go" means. I generally think it could be that her people would not allow her, that the Noldor would not allow one of the Vanyar who was not already married into the Noldor to go with them, or some combination of both.
Finrod promises to return for her as soon as possible, hoping that things will calm down once the Noldor have made it Middle Earth
That doesn't happen
Choosing to cross the Helcaraxe basically tears him apart, but at this point, his people need him and he will not abandon them, even for Amarie.
Back in Aman, Amarie is having to deal with the fallout of the Noldor leaving. She's essentially in mourning, having been told about the Doom of Mandos. She's definitely angry at Finrod for crossing anyway, but also ultimately understands that this is something that he must do, and he wouldn't be the person she loves if it wasn't.
She spends some time in Tirion, where there are more people who understand what she's going through. I like to think she becomes very close with Anaire, Finarfin, and Earwen during this period.
After everything that's happened, it's very difficult for Finrod to talk about, thus why Galadriel doesn't know. I think maybe he would tell Beor about it, but very few other people.
They do end up getting married after Finrod is reembodied (I generally think it happened sometime before the War of Wrath)
I would say they lived happily ever after but that can never be true for anyone who lived through the First Age (looming shadow of things lost, etc.). However, they do manage to be happy, even if there is grief and pain still there.
The end (for now, because elves)

do you have any headcannon/au scraps of finarfin arriving at the War of Wrath scene, seeing all the finwë disaster children and starting to Dad unconsciously ? And this is the first Grown-Up thats been around for A While (cutscene to fingolfin screaming, giving Morgoth a limp, and promptly dying) so they just roll with it for lack of anything more reasonable to do
hi!!!
i have to be honest, the War of Wrath of the werewolf au isn't fleshed out At All at the moment, but here are the basics of the finweans & finarfin dynamic
Finrod, Galadriel and Orodreth: relieved to see him. you have no idea how relieved they are. which makes sense considering he's their father
Maedhros: he was quick to get assigned a right-hand man. it was a role he was familiar with (feanor, fingolfin, fingon), and finarfin needed someone with military experience to advise and/or correct him
Maglor: falls into a role of snarky bard in between his duties, which. amuses finarfin very much. finarfin values him a lot, though - maglor is his go-to person if if he needs to know a context to something, and maglor often fills him in on things the others deem not meaningful/too obvious
celegorm, caranthir, curufin - ??? neutral, probably. given they're still alive by the point
amrod & amras - mostly positive. they are friends with finrod, so finarfin definitely has a soft spot for them
fingon - finarfin is a proof his hopes weren't in vain, so i'd say it's very positive. i'm still not sure how the kingship situation would go down, but i think finno would abdicate overnight. he never wanted the crown, and he feels like a great burden was lifted from his shoulders
turgon - uhh. hmm. i have no idea actually. i have to think about it
i think these are all? worth noting though that finarfin doesn't view them as children but as competent adults who can hold their own, and they don't really think of him as of parental figure (except his children of course). he is a good leader though, and that is what they value him for.
thank you for the ask! hope that's an okay answer, and please feel free to ask more if you have any questions or ideas :]

Weep, Willow, Weep

His sorrow and grief would stay there, locked in the embrace of the willow on the edge of the lake, where the tree would weep for him.

Additional Tags: Good Parent Fëanor, Good Parent Nerdanel, Finwe is trying, I don't understand how everyone can so easily villainize Feanor and his family, to me they are actually the saddest part of this story, you cannot tell me Alqualonde was not a mistake of panic and grief, the Valar are not trustworthy, you can't tell me Feanor wasn't on the spectrum, Child Neglect, even a court in paradise is still full of wolves, Feanor knew this, stress and grief and fear can make a person lose themselves, when you think about fading, is that not what that is?, Feanor was fading by the time he thought up the Silmarils, Melkor was only the final straw, the Silmarils were supposed to be gifts to his wife and sons, pieces of him for them to remember him by when he was gone, Feanor doesn't know how to be a brother so he tries to be a father, Unsurprisingly Findis and Fingolfin aren't fans, Headcannon that Finarfin and Maedhros are VERY close in age, because why not, this is all from Caranthir's perspective, which means limited but also like he's pretty good at noticing things, also foresight might help, Caranthir has foresight did i mention, Caranthir also knows he's going to die, i mean duh - Freeform, but like he can see himself dying while fighting Dior, and he plans accordingly, does that make this suicide?, the Doom of Mandos was wholly freaking unfair and I stand by that, Feanor had good intentions, how the hell should he have known they would cross the Helcaraxe?, He just wanted to keep them safe in Valinor like Finwe would have wanted, he didn't exactly want his sons coming along with either, he DEFINITELY did not want Celebrimbor coming along, Celebrimbor's a baby yall, both metaphorically and not, it's Þerindë yall, id be pissed if someone got my mother's name wrong constantly too, i actually haven't read the Shibboleth but that's next on my list, technically I haven't finished the Silm yet either but I know all of it, the Silm is somehow more interesting and more boring than LotR and the Hobbit, which is a feat, it's like reading a history book but with poetry, Does that make sense?, It's very vague, and very one sided in perspective, okay i'm done, but seriously I don't like the Valar, does it show?, the Valar conveniently damn a whole people and their descendants, if the tags are a mess I apologize because I went over the limit

Exactly how awkward was it for Finarfin to show up again at Tirion--after turning away after the Doom and not after the Kinslaying--and try to say hello to his wife, who probably lost family members and definitely lost friends and many, many people to his brothers and nephews and people?

Could you do Finarfin NSFW head cannons please? Or if you don’t write for him since he’s a less popular character, NSFW head cannons for Fingon? I love your writing and your confession nights ❤️
Tumblr media
Finarfin NSFW Headcannons
Finarfin is the softest of the three brothers, he has a craving for deep connection and intimacy and associates sex with nothing more than that.
I wouldn't really consider him as a particularly kinky individual as most things like that tend to take away from the meaning for him. If the requests are too odd then it mostly takes away from the moment for him and he isn't really as interested anymore.
He's a fairly vanilla guy that doesn't mind doing something special and abnormal every now and again as he does love his significant other and ultimately just wants to make them happy. Things he wouldn't object to include : praise kink, lingerie, sense deprivation, and restraints.
Definitely a moaner, he loves to share how wonderful he feels in the throes of passions and is particularly easy to over stimulate. If When you get him to this point his voice almost gets the point of screaming, it's shaky and desperate and absolutely adorable.
The type to twitch and writhe around as his hands cling desperately to the fat and skin of your body, leaving discolored marks in his wake. He tries his best to keep his eyes open through the duration of your love making but he gets lost in your eyes, your warmth, your sounds and scents that he loses himself rather quickly.
If you're in the position to be above him, which wouldn't be uncommon, please hold his wrists firm against the bed, press soft butterfly kisses along the length of his neck and bite into his pulse point. You'll feel is hips stutter in a way that would almost knock you off and he'd tremble for the rest of your session.
In short he is a considerate and dutiful lover so treat him kindly and softly, the rewards will be wonderful.

My headcannon is that Galadriel inherited her mind reading powers from her father. And Finarfin as a child is just creepy, like he would take one look at you and he would just know. People would be quite creeped out when he answered a question that they didn’t say, and he learned to hide it as he grow up. He still does the stare in your soul thing though. People find it next to impossible to lie to him.

Ofc your blog is wonderful! I love it! I love asking these reactions questions and I could never get tried of rereading your stories and headcannons 😭😭 THEY GIVE ME LIFE!
Omg! Please tell me you have watched it? Cuz you know I the ending the beginning when they meet? What if the elves s/o decided jump from tree and right onto them like? 👀 arms and legs all around wrapped around them 🤣
Oceanly 🌊
Ah yes. I'll write it the same way as she did. Getting stuck and having no choice but to jump and ends up landing on them. Arms and legs.
They were walking through the gardens on a fine spring morning, when all of a sudden, it rained a.....sack of potatoes? There you were, clutching onto them for dear life, arms and legs messily tangled around them with widened eyes and a nervous smile. "Eh...sorry?"
The ones to check for injuries and quarrel at you like a mother-hen. "Are you crazy? Don't answer that because you might tell me 'yes'. Are you alright, any injuries?"
MAEDHROS, Maglor, CARANTHIR*, Celebrimbor, Fingolfin, TURGON, Finarfin, Finrod, Aegnor, GLORFINDEL, Ecthelion
The ones whose first response is "What are you, a bird? Why were you in the tree? Trying to grow wings and fly you featherless chicken? If you want to fly so bad, ask Manwe to give you wings."
FEANOR, CELEGORM, Caranthir, CURUFIN, FINGON, ARGON, Angrod, EGALMOTH
Bonus: The ones who are not impressed by your actions because you messed up their perfect attire.
FEANOR, Maedhros, CURUFIN, Ecthelion, Egalmoth
I had too much fun writing this one. hehe

Tolkien Elves Clothing Headcannons
Please read: These are only my headcanons, meaning my ideas and interpretations of what Tolkien's elves would have worn based on the text, my clothing knowledge, and imagination. I am in no way claiming this is how it should be. Also I own none of the photos used in this post.
Also this is obnoxiously long and wordy, so if you skip to a section that interests you, I won't judge. I may have went ( A lot ) over bored ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Also I just want to say thank you so much for all the support I got on the post asking if I should do this, I hope it lives up to everyones expectations.
Tumblr media
Sources
Okay so in going on this journey of research, I ran into an issue. What culture or cultures to base the clothes off of. My first thought was to have each elven group take ideas from different human cultures. Which makes sense to an extent.
I feel elves would all dress more similar than different across Tolkien’s universe. My reason for this is all the elves started out in the same place (the awakening) and were all exposed to the same things. I believe their clothing would be strongly influenced by the Valar due to Orome’s influence in the beginning and since elves are immortal this influence would not die out as generations go on (I talk about this in the trends section of this post).
If you look in human societies throughout history, they are often unified culturally, despite being far apart, by a religion and I'm applying this to elves. They would emulate the Valar’s clothing in my mind.
Okay now that I narrowed down that I want to use one culture mostly, what culture to pick? There honestly is no right answer to this I feel, but i'm going with European influence (Which is super general I know) since that is where the concept of elves originates from and Tolkien was English. Elves started making their way into stories and poetry in around the 1500s, so that gives me a general area and date to start forming my headcanon. I'm also going to take quite a lot of liberties and take influence from the Lord of the rings films, and general fantasy aesthetics as well to form these headcanons.
Fabrics
Tumblr media
When talking about clothes the first place to start is what they are made of: the fabric. What kind of fabric would the elves use and have available to them. When coming up with this I considered two main things, One how durable the fabric is and two could elves make it.
I think durability would be extremely important to elves. According to the International textile association, the average regularly worn garment will last two to three years. Imagine how short of a time period that is to elves! This is why I believe durability would be extremely important to elves, they want something to last. especially the less wealthy elves because they can not afford constant new clothing.
I am only going to list clothing I think the elves could realistically make, so no polyester, plastic and chemical based fabrics.
Considering these two things I have come up with this list using this website as reference.
Canvas
Cashmere
Chenille
Chiffon
Cotton
Georgette (Silk variety)
jersey (Silk and cotton variety)
Leather and Animal Skins/furs
Wool (And all its woven variants)
Muslin
Lace
Satin
Silk (And all its differently woven Variants)
Taffeta
Velvet
Silhouette
Tumblr media
Note: We are looking at shape/Silhouette in this section, don't mind the colors or fabrics in my reference photos.
So if you study fashion history and culture at all you know the silhouette is one of the defining things of a culture and era. This brings on the question of what the Silhouette for elves would be. I think elves would share one general silhouette with similarities between the male and female silhouettes but have differences as well. This also applies to elves of different lands. They may have the same general silhouette with slightly different things.
For Elleths
For the common elleth silhouette I am going to say one thing SLEEVES. This is taking inspiration from both the LOTR movie and 1500s european paintings and fashion. long graceful sleeves is something I think would be an elven stable on formal/evening gowns. I feel there would be different styles of sleeves however the most common would be something like this. However I will say for casual work wear they would yield unhelpful.
Another thing I feel most elleth dresses would have is a waist seam. This is one thing I strongly dislike about the LOTR movie dress, a majority of the dresses at their base looks like a modern slip dress or a night gown and im not a fan. I understand this was probably a stylistic choice to represent how refined and ellagent the elves were, but to me it just looks like an ill fitted fast fashion nightgown. Here is a link to a good example photo if you want to look. Almost no dresses until the last hundred years lacked a waist seam like this. Some cultures don't have a waist seam in woman clothing but will almost always have a belt like garnet if there is no seam. And I personally think waist seemed gowns, look far more elegant. Plus 1500s european gowns all had waist seams so we are adding a waist seam.
Now the skirt, I feel it would be simple and more on the flat flowing side. No hoop skirts or bum roles for the elves. I do think in some gowns they may add some under lawyers to add volume and or warmth.
For Ellons
I actually really like the LOTR movies interruption of elven male robes for formal situations, Here is an example. I also think similar styles but shorter would be worn by either younger ellons or ellons wanting to branch out in a different style for a formal occasion. Here is an example.
For General Elves
I feel something both genders would share in their formal and non formal clothes is the use of capes in very versatile ways. The cape could have a function like keeping one warm, or just be purely for show and drastic flare as one descends from their throne *cough* Thranduil, Feanor *Cough*. Here are some examples: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3.
Now onto the talk of practical clothing. No matter how graceful elves are they can not wear gowns and robes when training or horse back riding. I imagine simple slacks and tunics would be a common site among elves who do physical activities. What Legolas wears in the lord of the rings, is perfect I feel. Practical and rather similar to what humans wear. Here is the example.
Colors
Tumblr media
I feel the elves would have clothing of all colors overall. depending on a couple things. Elves' clothing colors would be different depending on the environment and what dyes they have available in it. As well as what colors function best in an environment, so a lot of greens.
I don't think elven royals would enforce any laws that limits what colors an elf can wear depending on class like most royals throughout human history have. I do feel that certain elven houses, or elves would take on certain color themes. For example I believe Feanor and his house would wear a whole lot of reds, and blacks. While Finarfin and his house would be wearing more blues, whites and silver.
I think plant based dyes would be the most common among elves, making their clothing fall more on earthy toned down colors, opposed to bright synthetic ones we are used to (See mood board above). I do think some brighter colors could be achieved by dying a garment multiple times or using a rarer material like minerals. However I feel majorly would be as I said earthy and natural.
Embellishments
Tumblr media
I believe elves would dabble in all forms of embellishments on their clothing, I mean they have so much time on their hands so why not? I think embroidery would probably be the most common, Little swirled designs on hems and such. Bead work probably would be reserved for more formal garments, due to it being done with crystals and gems and taking lots of time.
I think what designs elves created would mostly be inspired by nature. Different flowers, birds, and stars being the most common.
I think some elven royals would have robes glistened with sewed on diamonds and jewels, to draw attention to themselves and show status.
Environments
Tumblr media
(Note: The way I arranged this mood board above is by environment. So Beach/tropical first row, Temperate forest middle, and snowy cold place third row.)
I feel the main thing that will be changing between different environments and temperatures is what materials they use. Fur and wool lined cloaks and robes for cold places. Light breathable fabric, decorated with sea shells for tropical beach environments. And cotton and medium warmth clothing for forests. I also feel for hunting clothing elves in forests would wear green, and in snowy areas would wear white furs.
I believe elves would still maintain the same general silhouette in different areas (Go to the Silhouette section for more details) just adding on layers and warmer fabrics in colder places.
Trends
So this section does not get a mood bored because I could not think of what that would be.
Trends are something extremely prevalent throughout human culture, often decided by those in power: Celebrities nowadays and in the past royalty. I don't think elves would have trends like we do, for two main reasons.
Reason one is as I said, trends in the past were decided by royals and oftentimes when a new royal took throne fashions would change in their image. However elven rulers don't die of old age like humans, they live forever. making the constant change of trends not occur with each new ruler because there is not a new ruler often. When there is a new ruler it is most likely extremely tragic because that means the past ruler died, and the next  (Most likely a child of the old ruler ) would probably not want to cause a drastic change in clothing out of respect.
Reason two being age groups. Trends often times change as new age groups move into the prime of their life and old generations die out. However elves are immortal and don't die out. I have no doubt younger elves would dress somewhat differently but there would be no massive clothing changes, In silhouette or fabrics due to the older elves pushing back against it. As well as the elves wanting to continue emulating the Valar.

Headcanon: Idril and the Manipulation of Prophecy
‘I am still going through things very slowly, but there were some bits that I sort of wanted to talk about somewhere for a while and wasn’t sure how. I may at some point tidy this up, and I may also at some point make a seperate post looking at the instances of prophetic knowledge Idril had herself, rather than this. Which is using other people’s prophecies for her own ends.
Then I saw a reference to how in Greek Tragedy the heroes - and sometimes other characters - often are prophecised to do something, or know an event will happen, and seek to circumvent it. And they always fail, because they seek to avoid the prophecy via strength of will and a force of their own. And its as beautiful as it is heartbreaking, knowing they are bound to fail.
Idril... Doesn’t. To my reading it is pretty clear that she knows Gondolin will fall. Not might, will. Once she knows it will happen, she never seems to try to stop Gondolin from falling. What she does is take the knowledge that it will, then act to minimise the effect. Gondolin will fall, but I will make means for some to escape and live on.
(I tend to think she has known it will fall since Eöl’s execution, but that is a topic for another day. there’s a tldr on it in the tags.)
And now a cut, as I got carried away and we progress into ‘textually-inspired headcanon’ instead of ‘interpretation of text’. The TLDR: Idril was making plans to save the Noldor via circumventing the Doom of Mandos, using other prophecies to find ways to get a message to the Valar and make them feel bad, but in the end they were unnecessary as she fell in love with Tuor (who she needed to marry for it to work, and had resigned herself to a duty marriage without love so unheard of for an elf, but known to men), he with her, and he named the child what the child needed to be named without her needing to use her mother-naming to give said child such.
In FoG we get the following line, which becomes relevant to the rest of this brain-dump:  ‘Know then that Idril had a great power of piercing with her thought the darkness of the hearts of Elves and Men, and the glooms of the future thereto - further even than is the common power of the kindreds of the Eldalië’ ie, not only does she have a talent for reading people, but also an understanding of how the future works, and given some of the other stuff going on in that text, actual prophetic dreams and visions and all that wonderful stuff.
She’s also 90% of the time absolutely in control of everything she possibly can be. And there’s a lot of prophecies and dooms and such floating around from other people, most of which I find it hard to imagine she would not have known about. Given her status, tendancies towards control and information gathering and knowing what is to come and all those things. Even if people did not approach her to say, she would do her best to keep herself aware of things. There’s three bits I sort of want to talk about, though there are a few more I am aware of that can contribute to this, these three sort of are enough to put it together.
Let us start, as things often should, with the Doom of Mandos. I’m not copying all of it. There’s also some other bits I now realise need to go into my braining on the execution thing, but aside. The bit I’m looking for here is: ‘the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains’. Also all of the awful things it promises, but the specifics of those are unimportant.  What Idril knows from this: the Valar have blocked them from Valinor, and if they try ask for help it will not cross the mountains. If the request for help were on the other side of the mountains, it would not need to cross them, but its a moot point if they cannot. Maybe uncle Finarfin might manage to bed help from the other side of the mountains, but he hasn’t yet so its not really feasible.
Second we leave the silm proper for a while, heading over to the Statute of Finwë and Miriel as found in Morgoth’s Ring. I’m never quite certain if it is part of Laws and Customs or not, but in it if Finwë can remarry is the point of the debate. With other bits involved. The section in question comes near the end, and involves the fact that ‘but Indis’ descendants will be amazing and she won’t have kids with anyone but Finwë so we she totes let her marry him’ (very tldr and absolutely not a direct quote). It mentions at a point that both elves and men will have a part to play in her descendants and also great deeds. Then we get this gem: ‘When he that shall be called Eärendil setteth foot upon the shores of Aman, ye shall remember my words’ (I have a whole other ramble about the rest of this section, but that’s not for here or now).  Idril brain remembers this - there’s no way I can concieve of her not having been exposed to this report of great importance to both her family and legal history - connects it to the previous bit and goes ‘there is a pre-existing prophecy that a descendant of Indis, who is my great-grandmother, named Eärendil, will set foot on the shores of Aman. Not just be in Aman - setteth foot upon. That’s a pre-existing prophecy specifying someone who can break the fence. This person does not exist yet. But should I ever marry, I can make it so, then they can go beg the Valar for help. Given even Mandos seems to think this relative will be a good thing.
Third, and finally though there’s a lot more that could be used but I have things to do today, is the prophecy Huor makes as he tells Turgon to go and willingly faces down his own death: 'Yet if it stands but a little while, then out of your house shall come the hope of Elves and Men. This I say to you, lord, with the eyes of death: though we part here for ever, and I shall not look on your white walls again, from you and from me a new star shall arise.’ (I like to think that death prophecies from mortals are just a thing that happens sometimes, like pregancy prophecies for elves. Something about Mandos being both the guardian of the dead and also a prophet, but anyway this is one that exists canonically. Silmarillion-as-published canon even.) Well, that’s interesting. The Hope of Elves and Men comes from Gondolin, but is not there yet. I do not think at the point people get back from the Nirnareth and Idril would have heard this she would have the context for the new star, but a prophecy is a prophecy, and the prophecy speaks of unifying Huor’s line with Turgon’s. Well she is all of Turgon’s line left, and unifying is easiest via marriage. Luthien happened, so children of elves and men can occur. Presumably Huor has children (well his wife was pregnant at the time of the fighting but Idril wouldn’t have had the specifics there and already have a child seems like a logical conclusion). Which basically means, she has to marry Huor’s son. If she ever tracks him down. And have a kid. May as well make that kid the Eärendil from earlier - hope of Elves and Men is a little more than hope for the Noldor, but hey Noldor are elves and men are also affected by Morgoth. The plan just expanded to include more people.
They low and behold Voronwë shows up with him at the city gates not too long later. At which point the plan goes something like: get Tuor to marry me (hmmm might take work), have a child (hopefully easy enough once married), name the child Eärendil (mother names are a thing so that’s very easy to control), escape the inevitable fall of Gondolin (a lot of work, but we also have much more notice on that one), get the child from here to Aman (Ulmo will probably help out), make sure child is loud enough to convince the Valar to do something (that’ll be a problem but with good enough tutors...), congrats your people are now significantly less damned than previously.
Of course none of her manipulating the sitatution bar the tunnel in the end proved necessary in my headcannon as well. She spent the time between hearing about Tuor and meeting him going ‘right this is the man I will have to marry for the sake of the Noldor I must prepare myself mentally for the duty I have taken upon myself to fulfil the prophecy to save my people’ only to meet him and go ‘oh no he’s hot’ followed by  ‘oh no he’s also sweet and adorable and I want to see him happy’ followed by ‘well I guess this isn’t so much duty afterall’. Then most of her pregancy going ‘why the fuck did I have a dream about seeing my baby with a silmaril of all things and beyond Arda of all places’ (See: the names of Finwë’s descendants in the Shibboleth of Feanor, Peoples of Middle Earth), and so forgetting to discuss with Tuor the fact the child needed naming Eärendil for prophecy reasons, only for Tuor to name him Eärendil while she was recovering from giving birth anyway. Due to something Ulmo said about a son who was good at boats. So in the end most of this was completely irrelevant anyway, and more than a little exasperating on the ‘I put in all this thought and effort then it just *happened* like this was the actual plan and I’m not trying to manipulate the situation’, but that doesn’t change the fact my Idril did it anyway.

Courting Fingolfin Headcannons
Writers Note: So I'm starting yet another series on my blog, courting blank elf would include. Do I have an issue with starting way to many series and not having consistent posts.. maybe? But anyways I hope you guys like it! Also im using my own head cannons of what elven courting would include.
Tumblr media
Fingolfin did not ask to court you until he was one hundred and I mean one hundred percent sure his feelings were true
He considered in great lengths what courting a non royal mortal would entail and if it would be worth it, which in the end he decided it was due to how much he loved you.
When approaching you he was nervous you would turn him down due to him being royalty and the responsibilities you would have to take on if you married him.
Fingolfin left a letter in your chambers with a blue rose, Gold Jewelry and a beautiful (Favorite color) silk dress or tunic depending on what he thought you would prefer.
The letter was written in gold ink with expert penmanship, and it instructed you to meet your secret admirer in the royal gardens that night wearing the gifts you were left.
When you met with Fingolfin he took you on a beautiful walk through the gardens, and ended the night with a grand speech of him declaring his love for you and asking to court you.
Fingolfin opted to not announce that you were courting to the public until you were ready.
One of the major perks that came along with courting Fingolfin is the many love notes, gifts, and flowers you would receive on the days whenever Fingolfin was too busy to spend it with you.
Whenever Fingolfin has free time when you are courting and after you marry he spends it with you.
Sometime you go on hikes or rides together when Fingolfin and you have an off day, but Fingolfins all time favorite thing to do with you is lounge around reading books together cuddled up on a couch by a warm fire.
He finds great enjoyment in the mundanity of it and how different it is from his normally high stressed days filled with his responsibilities as a royal.
In the process of getting to know Fingolfin even more while courting you also grow to be good friends with Fingolfin's little brother Finarfin who fully supports Fingolfin's and yours marriage.
When it comes to planning Fingolfin and yours wedding you both play massive roles in the process. Fingolfin is willing to do whatever you want to be honest, since he would be happy no matter what as long as he gets to marry the one he loves.
