Starting My Tumblr: Figuring Out What to Post
Hey Tumblr friends! 👋 I’m super excited to say this is my very first post! After finally creating my Tumblr, I’m still figuring out what kind of content I want to share. There are so many cool options, and honestly, I’m a bit torn. Should this space be for personal thoughts, creative work, or just a mix of everything I love? 🤔
What Should I Post? Exploring Ideas
There’s a ton of inspiration around Tumblr, which makes it exciting but also tricky to decide on a direction. Here are some of the options I’m considering:
1. Personal Blog
I could use this space like a journal, sharing daily life experiences, thoughts, or even mini life updates. It would be a more casual, authentic vibe, letting me connect with others who might relate to what I’m going through. Plus, it could be a great way to document life and look back on my personal growth.
2. Creative Writing and Poetry
I’ve always had a passion for words. Whether it’s short stories or poetry, Tumblr seems like the perfect space to share that creative side. I could post snippets of my writing or even work on a longer project in chapters. There are so many amazing writers on Tumblr that I’ve come across, and it would be fun to join in on that creative community.
3. Book Reviews and Recommendations
As an avid reader, I’m always discovering new books and authors, so why not use Tumblr to share my thoughts on what I’m reading? Whether it’s detailed reviews, quick recommendations, or even bookish discussions, it could be a great way to connect with fellow readers. Plus, I could keep track of my reading journey and maybe even inspire others to pick up a new book.
4. Reblogging and Curation
Let’s be real: Tumblr is a goldmine for cool content. I could simply focus on reblogging things I love, like funny memes, aesthetic photos, inspiring quotes, or interesting posts from others. Curation is its own form of expression, and it might be a fun way to explore and share my favourite rite things without overthinking it.
Finding My Style
One thing I’m quickly learning about Tumblr is that it doesn’t have to be just one thing. I can combine different types of content — writing, reblogging, books, and more. My Tumblr can be a mix of everything I enjoy, which feels true to who I am. Right now, I’m open to experimenting and seeing what resonates with me (and with all of you!).
What’s Next?
For now, I’m going to try out different types of posts and see what feels right. Maybe this space will evolve over time, or maybe I’ll find a clear direction soon. Either way, I’m excited to start this journey, and I’m grateful to have you along for the ride!

From Copying to Creating: My Turning Point
For a long time, I spent my creative energy copying photographs.
I wasn’t tracing — I was redrawing everything by hand, scaling it down, chasing perfect proportions, pushing for hyperrealism. I loved detail. I still do. But over time, I hit a wall. Something started to feel… empty.
A photograph already captures a moment — as seen by the photographer’s eye, their light, their angle, their emotion. The more I copied, the more I realized I wasn’t telling my story. I was just recreating someone else’s.
That realization hit hard. I didn’t know what my own style was. And finding it wasn't some magical moment where I just decided to be different. No. It took me years.
After stepping away from realism, I spent nearly three years experimenting — trying everything, failing, starting over, getting lost, discovering new ways to express myself. Slowly, very slowly, something began to form. My own line. My own language. And once it started forming, it evolved fast — like it had been waiting for me all along.
Still, realism was a huge part of my journey. It taught me discipline, precision, and how to truly see.
So today, I want to share one of my last fully realistic drawings — done with regular pencils on A4 paper. It reminds me of where I came from, and why I chose a different path.

Why is it that men are afraid and don’t want their spouse, significant other to change their hair to a natural state! Men are all for the liberation of naturalism and acknowledging spirituality. Only until that partner comes with a new hairstyle representing a natural state and reclaiming her true self!
Women feel and need the ownership of loving themselves and the hair that God gave them regardless of how it looks or the steps needed to get there. So they take on that returning to nature and start to embrace what texture they have and what was given to them. With that we begin to learn to care for our natural hair properly and do what’s is healthy and makes us happy!
I remember when I started my hair journey around 8 years ago while suffering from thyroids; which keep making my hair falling out and do to scalp sensitivity from perming, I knew it was necessary for my well-being to make a change. I wasn’t sure how my fiancée would take the change, but nevertheless, I’m going to go natural! I decided to start my natural hair journey.”
I felt it might have been easier to let the perm grow out, for his comfort and cut away little by little, but what a mess. So one day while home alone, I decided to do the big chop! I instantly fell in love with my refound hair! It brought me back to remembering getting those heat presses that my grandmother did every Saturday night and the burnt ears from me moving so much. How was I going to handle this hair, how would I look? All of these things impacted my thoughts, but nevertheless, I knew what I need to do! Cut it off! I did a lot of research looked up styles and decided I will let my hair take on the direction it wanted to go!!
I still didn’t believe the sense of his disconcertment and lack of understanding that was happening over me caring and taking self preservation over my hair, body and life! I began to feel free and I didn’t care about how he felt about my hair, often times he would walk by and just keep feeling it, and I see him shaking his head! I struggle on alone and wore my TWA without reservation.
As I was learning my hair and starting out, He often said It looks terrible and what am I going to do with it! He said I was bald and looked like a man! I wore did the (TWA) teeny weeny Afro, the twists and wore a headband! My friends also, often said those natural hair styles aren’t very attractive. Do you really plan to walk around town with an afro all the time? I no longer cared what anyone thought of what I needed for myself!
I’ve been relaxing my hair for 37 years, putting up with these painful headsores and pain in my head after perming. After my hair started falling out from my medical condition, I knew I had to do something different. To think-of his insensitive and his feelings that I was unattractive became bothersome simply because of the way I decide to wear my hair. It was very upsetting so I asked what makes it so ugly, in your eyes and why does my hair make you see me differently now? “No answer”
Men are not aware of what it takes to maintain the stresses and pressures of what you see as good hair, they don’t even understand hair maintenance and what permed or natural hair requires! It all is alot of work, but being natural is a true sense of being true in every form of the word! Getting back to being yourself is key to understanding, balancing your thoughts and actions and leveling up your engergy field!

Finding My Aesthetic
In my own personal opinion, I truly believe that people can have multiple aesthetic and can dress how they want depending on their mood. And I don’t think anyone disagrees with that statement as well. When I talk to one of my best friends about my style and how within the past year it has evolved to less basic girl trendy (which still looks great and is a reason its trendy) but more to something else I don’t have a proper adjective to describe it. So what I am going to do is find pictures through Instagram or Twitter (which I have linked to this account, please check it out) and describe why I like them and see how my style evolves over the months. Maybe describing outfits I like and putting it into words will help me find my own personal style and finally an adjective to say what my personal style is.
So let us start:
4/1/20 Day 1
Tumblr media
I love a good pattern with a basic. They always compliment each other. I love this Burberry skirt and this pattern obviously never goes out of style. It’s a classic print for a reason. The miniskirt combo with a nice blouse screams maturity to me. Being 20, I realized that I can fall into two categories: “I just graduated high school two years ago and still drink cheap beer” or  “I am going into the workforce in two years” It is just one of those hats that I take off and put on depending on the day I guess. There are those people who make everywhere they go their runway, sadly I do not go to a university where that is the social norm. I also think that by going to a private high school and wearing a uniform for four years that I lost those developing years finding clothes that I look good in. So that’ s what I’m doing now. Back to this outfit, neutrals look good on anyone. The pattern on the skirt is not too busy where it makes you dizzy looking at it and the blouse helps calm the pattern down by making it more casual but sophisticated. By picking a top with buttons on it, it makes the outfit look more expensive and not make the skirt look like a cheap knockoff (which I doubt it is).

I’m not happy. I’m not sad. I am numb. I don’t know what and how to feel.
I wish I could take care of me like I take care of the others. I always find a reason for them to smile. Don’t get me wrong I still smile and joke but only if I have to. At night I cry, sometimes for no reason.
I feel empty. Alone.
If I only knew how to express myself. How can you tell people your not happy? I am intense. Some people call it drama. But I am me, and for some reason, I never get to truly express myself because I'm always scared that people will think I'm crazy. Not crazy, but maybe a little.
There's a storm in my head.
I am grateful to have people around me that like me and I think that is why I fell sad. Because of my stupid smile and my - I'm okay :).
I'm not, I know I'm not. But why should I make others worry about me? I've been through so much alone and now any small thing makes me break.

Creating the Perfect Capsule Wardrobe
Hello to all my beautiful mer~ladies and mer~gents. I hope y’all are having a great week!! Whew!! I’m sure glad we got through that Monday! I mean I don’t know about you but that was one of the most Monday-est, Mondays I’ve had in a while. I didn’t wanna do jack shit yesterday and anything that was done just didn’t feel right. I need to work on that. Is there really a way to make Mondays feel better? Or should we just tack a third day on to the weekend? IDK? Seems pretty legit to me. I need more things to do I guess. Here’s to hoping it all picks up soon with this current blog. Also let me know what you do to either curb the “Monday” Blues or at least cope with them. Anyways it’s now Tuesday and my mood and most things definitely seem to be picking up.
As you will eventually come to find, I initially created this blog in attempt to log anything and everything that comes with my discovery of myself and who I am supposed to be in life. Why am I anything special you might ask? and the thing is, to some I might not be. But starting from within to bring all this positivity to the surface I definitely think I am something special, and someone worth knowing. If you stick around I promise you’ll see that all of this is true. I mean believe me I haven’t always thought this way about myself either. It takes time. But that’s why we are learning to dance in colored rain together. That is what this blog and my new outlook in life is, to not only learn to dance in the storm, but to find all of the beauty in it. So pull up your boot straps, take my hand, and we’ll do this together!!
What exactly does all of this have to do with “Creating the Perfect Capsule Wardrobe”? What made us travel down this rabbit hole today? Well, if I am being honest this is something I’ve been thinking about for a really long time. I also told you guys and myself that my next challenge for working on me was to, work on my wardrobe. I came to deliver!! When it came down to figuring out how to go about doing this, I had to think long and hard. After many weeks of research, and a lot of window shopping, I came to the conclusion that I may have been doing it wrong all this time. Maybe not wrong for everybody, just wrong for me. We’re all different and that’s okay. Anyways a couple of days ago I came across the term “capsule” wardrobe.
What is a “capsule” wardrobe? Capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called "Wardrobe" in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don't go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces. After a few days of reading about this and learning how to create one myself I have come to the conclusion that creating a capsule wardrobe is for me because; I don’t currently have much of one and would like to have a much more feminine and put together look, It also fits in with the way I like to organize all other aspects of my life, and lastly because I of course want a banging wardrobe but I have a budget I am working with. I think this is going to eventually become a whole series, so come watch and get inspired as I; research more, and begin the journey to becoming more of the best version of myself.  Also remember that the things that I write about or style I choose is my own and that you should be encouraged to explore and find your own style.
xoxo,
MermaidQWN
P.S.

GUESS WHO WENT THRIFTING!
It's nice to take my time and really look at clothing to figure out what my style is. So while my love bugs were in school I decided to do a little shopping.
Here's outfit #1.
Tumblr media
I wanted some *professional vibes* with this white top and red skirt. I paired this with some white open toed heels (not pictured here) that I already had.
Below is outfit #2.
Tumblr media
Ok, so this is more like an everyday type of look. I love this button up top that I found paired with jeans that I already had. You can never go wrong with a pair of blue jeans! ;-) I already owned the purse and belt but the purse IS a thrift find! Oh, and I paired this outfit with black ankle boots that I had laying around. Next time I will remember to photograph the shoes!
Below is outfit #3.
Tumblr media
Here's a floral top that I found. I absolutely LOVE the sleeves! I can't forget to mention that this skirt has pockets! I mean, really DEEP pockets which I was THRILLED with! I paired this outfit with my gold chain belt which I think turned out pretty cute. I'm not sure what shoes to pair with this outfit but I'm sure I could rock my black ankle boots with this.
Oh, I forgot to mention the little black bag that I purchased as well. I was so excited to take photos of the clothes that I forgot the bag. Ha!
3 tops, 2 skirts, and 1 bag. All under $15! Not bad at all!
So there are my 3 outfits! My fav was probably the 2nd outfit. Which one was yours?
Thanks for reading. :-)

I was 14 when I got the white sandals. I remember as it was yesterday how much emphatic I needed to be to convince my mom in getting them. ….46 years later, here I am with similar style sandals. This time, no fight just some online search… Years may pass and yet, our style is there, hidden, waiting to be revealed again. Soul Aesthetic• 14*18” Acrylics and gold leaf . Might have overdone the gold part😬 It’s difficult to know where to stop when I’m working without any reference, just an idea in my head (which is usually a bit different in my imagination than what I end up painting ) . Also the colours appear a bit different in the pictures than the actual shades. I include different angles but I don’t think the pictures do justice to the actual colours 👀 . . . . #art #fineart #originalart #originalpainting #painting #acrylicpainting #goldleaf #butterfly #aesthetics #inspiredaily #creativeprocess #findingmystyle #abstractart #visualart #itsybitsybacall2021 #artmaterials #artworkfeatures #canvaspainting #artprocess #indianartist #colorsbynav #artgallery #artexpression #artexhibition #artmagazines (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQbMiIhreGh/?utm_medium=tumblr
