Starting My Tumblr: Figuring Out What to Post
Hey Tumblr friends! šŸ‘‹ I’m super excited to say this is my very first post! After finally creating my Tumblr, I’m still figuring outĀ what kind of contentĀ I want to share. There are so many cool options, and honestly, I’m a bit torn. Should this space be for personal thoughts, creative work, or just a mix of everything I love? šŸ¤”
What Should I Post? Exploring Ideas
There’s a ton of inspiration around Tumblr, which makes it exciting but also tricky to decide on a direction. Here are some of the options I’m considering:
1.Ā Personal Blog
I could use this space like a journal, sharing daily life experiences, thoughts, or even mini life updates. It would be a more casual, authentic vibe, letting me connect with others who might relate to what I’m going through. Plus, it could be a great way to document life and look back on my personal growth.
2.Ā Creative Writing and Poetry
I’ve always had a passion for words. Whether it’s short stories or poetry, Tumblr seems like the perfect space to share that creative side. I could post snippets of my writing or even work on a longer project in chapters. There are so many amazing writers on Tumblr that I’ve come across, and it would be fun to join in on that creative community.
3.Ā Book Reviews and Recommendations
As an avid reader, I’m always discovering new books and authors, so why not use Tumblr to share my thoughts on what I’m reading? Whether it’s detailed reviews, quick recommendations, or even bookish discussions, it could be a great way to connect with fellow readers. Plus, I could keep track of my reading journey and maybe even inspire others to pick up a new book.
4.Ā Reblogging and Curation
Let’s be real: Tumblr is aĀ goldmineĀ for cool content. I could simply focus on reblogging things I love, like funny memes, aesthetic photos, inspiring quotes, or interesting posts from others. Curation is its own form of expression, and it might be a fun way to explore and share my favourite rite things without overthinking it.
Finding My Style
One thing I’m quickly learning about Tumblr is that it doesn’t have to be just one thing. I can combine different types of content — writing, reblogging, books, and more. My Tumblr can be a mix of everything I enjoy, which feels true to who I am. Right now, I’m open to experimenting and seeing what resonates with me (and with all of you!).
What’s Next?
For now, I’m going to try out different types of posts and see what feels right. Maybe this space will evolve over time, or maybe I’ll find a clear direction soon. Either way, I’m excited to start this journey, and I’m grateful to have you along for the ride!

A First for Everything
So, I graduated like… wait, let me count on my fingers… three months ago? And honestly, I feel so unbelievably free, it's kinda terrifying. I’ve had way too much time to just sit, stare at my story folders, and, well… exist. But guess what? I’m kinda back. Out of nowhere, I got this crazy burst of motivation to actually do something. Shocking, right?
For the past few weeks, I’ve been writing, sending out job apps, and even learning how to drive (which, by the way, is way less stressful than deciding if my main character should die in the end). But now? Now I’m taking things seriously. I’m pushing my writing further, focusing on myself, and ignoring anyone who tries to tell me otherwise.

Day one...
Trying to navigate the working world, while navigating your own brain, while also trying to lead the way for your child, is probably one of the most stress inducing challenges I have ever encountered. Yes, there is the satisfaction of getting through yet another day, but there is also the constant thought of "does this get easier?". Of course, I'm sure it will at some point, but right now, in this moment, I'm not sure when that point will come.

Good Day to my Rabbitlings šŸŽ€šŸ°
My name is Starlight (code name), I’m a deitykin, angelkin, darkdeitykin and faerykin. I’m a religious deity of my own pantheon from a distant part of this version of earth (kind of a mouthful lol). This blog will be about my journey as a respawner and returning back home as well as art of my story that i’m creating. Hope you have a good day/night, Peace be Lings (Lings is short for Rabbitlings)

Famine pt.1
I walked through the desolate streets, the streetlights seemed to wash everything with this horrible, sickly grey pallor. It reminded me of the hollow face of a starving child.
The cobbles underneath my bare feet were cold and unforgiving, and the sides of the streets were piled high with black trash bags and broken glass. I headed to the supermarket to stock up on food and drinks.
The streets were nearly completely empty, the only other person I could see was an old Japanese man wearing headphones and a long black coat. There weren’t even any signs of animal life. I rarely came in contact with people, it seemed as if everywhere I went people would unconsciously give me a wide berth, although I could observe them from my apartment window just fine. A bustling street would soon become sad and cold, vacant of any life shortly after I stepped out there. Even the cicadas would pause their eternal cycle of infernal screeching.
I did not want to cause anybody any inconvenience so I tended to stay in my apartment most days, and if I did need to venture out to buy food I would only go out during late afternoon or night.
I heard a siren go off in the distance, and I wondered what had happened. A myriad of situations flicked through my head, each one more horrible and traumatic than the last.
I was pulled out of my reverie by the glaring lights of the supermarket. It was a familiar sight and a comfort for me, I could feel the seemingly bottomless pit of my stomach yawning open, begging for nourishment. I felt as if I was slowly being twisted, being turned inside out and falling into the black hole that was my endless hunger. Although, it was not only food I was hungry for. I longed for human contact and love as well.
I do not think that is part of my curse, but rather a natural side effect of my hermit-like tendencies and society's rather extreme aversion to me.
The supermarket doors opened with a ding. I entered and scanned the shelves for my go-to snacks. The pale glow of the lights hurt my eyes.
I went to the self checkout and started scanning the barcodes on my food.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Suddenly the scanner lit up red and the screen read ā€˜Error scanning item, please look to staff member for help’.
I glanced around the supermarket, it seemed to be deserted. I sighed and walked over to the other checkout isles to look for someone.
The only person I could see was a young woman, about my age, scrolling on her phone behind the checkout bay. She wore the uniform of a staff member so I walked over and called out for help. She looked up, and met my eyes.Ā
For a confusing second I saw her eyes glow bright yellow, like an owl. But when I blinked again they were just an ordinary chestnut brown.
I was so stunned my words left me for a moment, she kept looking at me expectantly.Something’s different, I thought, but I can’t tell what.

Embracing the Blank Page: A New Writer's Journey
Welcome to all of you who like me are on this beautiful journey of the world of words. I am thrilled to embark on this literary voyage with you as I introduce myself as a new writer diving headfirst into the boundless sea of storytelling.
My name is Astrid, and I have always been captivated by the power of all those words that can transport us to distant realms, evoke emotions we never knew we had, and connect us across time and space. For years, I've been a silent observer of the magic woven by authors, poets, and playwrights, but now, it's my turn to step onto the stage and add my voice to the chorus of storytellers.
Like many of you, I've harbored dreams of penning my own tales since I was old enough to hold a pencil. Yet, life's twists and turns often led me down different paths, and the dream of becoming a writer remained tucked away in the recesses of my mind. But recently, something shifted within me—a stirring, a yearning, an insatiable hunger to give life to the stories that have always been whispering in the shadows of my imagination.
So here I am, embracing the blank page with equal parts trepidation and excitement, ready to embark on this exhilarating journey of self-discovery and creative exploration. I may be a newcomer to the world of writing, but I bring with me a heart brimming with passion, a mind teeming with ideas, and a soul eager to pour itself onto the canvas of the written word.
In this humble corner of the internet, I invite you to join me as I navigate the twists and turns of the writer's path. Together, we'll celebrate the triumphs and navigate the trials, sharing in the joy of creation and the camaraderie of fellow wordsmiths.
Here, you'll find musings on my writing process, reflections on the craft of storytelling, and glimpses into the worlds I'm weaving within the pages of my works-in-progress. It's a journey of vulnerability and courage, of doubt and determination, but above all, it's a journey fueled by the boundless power of imagination and the unyielding belief in the magic of storytelling.
So, dear reader, thank you for joining me on this adventure. Whether you're a seasoned writer, an aspiring author, or simply a lover of stories, I'm honored to have you by my side as I take my first steps into the enchanted forest of writing. Together, let's embark on this grand odyssey, pen in hand, heart aflame, and spirits soaring on the wings of imagination.
Until next time, may your ink flow freely and your imagination knows no bounds.
With gratitude and excitement,
Astrid

Image Description: A flat pink granite gravemarker that reads, "CLIFTON Hugh D. 1919-1974 and Ruby Hughen 1920-2007".

— — — — — — — — —
Ruby Jewell Hughen is my maternal great-grandmother. She was the second child born to Sadie Thornton and James Hughen in Alabama, USA in 1920. She was 24 years old in 1944 when she married 25-year-old Hugh Clifton in Bay St. Louis, Hancock County, Mississippi, USA.
Hugh Clifton was the second child of Maggie Hobbs and Hilton Clifton Sr. in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, USA. He was a "semi-skilled chauffeur and driver, bus, taxi, truck, and tractor" and "worked as an Automotive Mechanic in Air Transportation". A U.S. WW2 Army Enlistment record from 1941 states he was a Private. In 1942 in Walton County, Florida, USA, Hugh married Annie Sowell. Annie then divorced him in 1944 on the grounds of desertion exactly 2 months and 18 days before he married Ruth.
Ruth's oldest two children—daughters—were born in 1940 in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama, USA, and in 1942 in Alabama, USA respectively. Her youngest two children—sons—were born in 1947 and 1951 (likely in Alabama, USA) respectively. Perhaps if I had paid attention to the dates a recent reveal by my mother wouldn't have been so shocking (or too late to save me from a countless amount of time researching in the wrong direction).
About 3 weeks ago I learned that Hugh was Ruby's second husband. I can't even find the words to describe the whirlwind that consumed me in the following moments. Lightning quick, I began interrogating my mother for more information to fill in this sudden void in my ancestry. All she could remember was that her mother told her that her real surname was Singleton.
The name plucked familiarly at my brain, yet I couldn't think why. It was only later that night when I sat down to figure this all out that I realized why the name was so familiar. Tucked into the ignored hints on my Ancestry account under Ruth's profile was a U.S. WW2 Draft Card which listed a Ruby Jewel Singleton and her spouse Joseph David Singleton.
Following that vein, I discovered a Mississippi, USA marriage record between a Joseph D. Singleton and a Ruby J. Hughen in 1938. The discrepancy with this record is that it lists both parties as being of color. My mother and other documents can verify that Ruby and my grandfather were white, and the draft card indicated that Joseph was white as well. While I've learned that this can be a frequent issue with historical records, I can't definitively verify the couple listed on the record as my ancestors despite the dates and locations matching up.
Without knowing who Joseph really is and whether or not he's actually my great-grandfather, this branch of my tree is stumped. I'm hoping to discover more information regarding this little twist in my family history. Perhaps it will soften the blow of losing 50+ "direct" relatives through Hugh.
Until then, I'll keep trying to build up my ever-twisting tree and keep y'all updated on the interesting stuff that I find along the way.

(Photo taken last December 2024, Guam.)
"Don't overthink - you won't go anywhere."
Before starting this blog, I was hesitant. It has been years since I began blogging, and I didn’t even know where to begin again. But truly, that saying speaks volumes. I grew up being a people-pleaser. I always overthought things, constantly trying to be the best person I could be, to the point where I neglected myself and the things I love. I often became afraid of doing and trying new things because I feared judgment. But who cares, right? Life is too short to complicate things and live in fear.
So here I am.
To many more posts ahead!

Mistakes I made last month.
Small business owners: Check out my "resume of mistakes" in my latest blog post.
Here’s my resume of recent moments that were not my best. Small business owners are often isolated in their little world. So when issues arise, they wonder if what they are experiencing is ā€œnormal.ā€ When I chat with other owners, there’s often a look of relief on their faces (ā€œphew, it’s not me.ā€). To help you feel less alone, here are some of my recent guffaws: I forgot to approve the…

The intro...
Being chronically ill at the age of 26 was definitely not on my list of things I wanted to accomplish by 30, but then again, neither was becoming a single mother.
Life has a funny way of throwing things at you, whether you think you can handle them or not, and I have had more than my fair share of challenges.
As cliche as it is to say, all these challenges really did make me who I am today, and not only that, they've made me want to share my experiences with the world, so that others can feel less alone in their moments of chaos.
Aspiring to be the person I needed, for those that need it.
