First time joining triathlon!🙃 Though it's a Team Relay and I'm just doing the 10km run, but the experience is definitely different from my other 10km race. Thank you Muzzamir Ismail and Eiszaltulamri Noorali for finishing the Swimming and Cycling leg so fast. So that I have more time left to run. 😁 Thank you to our Mrs Singapore Malay International finalist Zia Barik to come cheer for us and brought us food ration.😜 Joining the Triathlon today, reminds me of a Friend of mine who had departed last Oct. I used to think that he was paying money to torture his body by joining lots and lots of triathlons lol. Today, I finally know why he did what he did. With the input of good nutritions, we should make full use of this newly upgraded body to explore more of our capabilities and not just be healthy. We have to Be More. "you'll never be ready until you do it" Like my wise coach always say (at every race): "it's not about finishing fast, but to finish Strong!" #BeMore #BeRelentless #hottestrunever #firsttriathlon #teamrelay (at East Coast Park Castle Beach)

Commiting
Commitment – /kəˈmitmənt/ – noun
the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.
12 weeks passed and the fitness plan I set in place, meal planning guide I wrote, and the step by step plan went to the near wayside. Six weeks out from my half marathon I found myself panicked, disappointed, and more unmotivated than ever. That’s what got me thinking, why I am committed to getting back in shape? What are my deep down reasons for doing this?
Feeling Better
Regaining weight you once loss really can take a toll on your mentality. I found that out really fast. I became extremely disappointed in myself which quickly became a slippery slope into a sad place I did not want to go. I find myself comparing my body to others constantly, especially the fitness stars out there, wondering if I can ever be at that level. Cue the stress eating too…
I’m tired of the comparisons, the eating until I feel sick, the negativity, tiredness, and every other thing that comes with not feeling good about yourself. I am ready to be happy me again more than anything!
Strong and confident is beautiful
I don’t look good super skinny, period. And neither do I want to be.
I want to be that girl who runs the marathons, does the triathlons, climbs mountains, and does every other crazy thing in the book. I want to live and carry myself through everything I do strongly and confidently.
Being able to break my squat PR would be pretty nice too.
Goodbye Stress
I handle stress poorly. I’m convinced I would fail a stress test before I even started taking one. My job is stressful, the industry I work in is a stress machine that induces mental breakdowns for many people, commuting is stressful, just life in general is stressful.
But does it really need to be?
It is common knowledge that working out reduces stress. So then why not just do it?
Commitment
Circling back to what I kicked this post off with…
In life I have commitments. My job, my boyfriend, my puppy, my friends, my family. Reflecting on that though, I have not committed myself since I was in college to something for me. I believe everyone should commit to one thing to better themselves, whether it be writing, photography, a sport, volunteering, anything.
Having this goal, this commitment to work towards helps give me that everyday thing to master, to dedicate my free time to, and to work on for myself. It’s realizing that it is not a benchmark to reach, it is an ongoing, everyday goal to work for.
Being the best version of myself
When I’m tired and grumpy, mad at myself for eating that cookie, or scraping to get the calories I need, I am not myself what so ever. The worst part is, I know it’s not me and how much better I can be if I take care of my body in the way that it works to support me.
Respect is received by those it is given to. How can our bodies fuel and care for ourselves, when we don’t give it the love and respect it deserves?
Why put ourselves down over not being skinny enough or eating that cookie? Do what your body wants to do, and most importantly, eat the damn cookie.

Back to the drawing board...
After losing 30 lbs almost 4 years ago, I never thought the weight would come back. In all honesty, I held it off for awhile. That’s until the real world hit.
After a year of two hour commutes, a desk job, the stress of a six week unemployment period, a knee injury and the list goes on and on, I was right back where I started and more miserable than before.
I’ve never been a tiny girl. I was an athlete growing up and naturally built because of it. The calves I got from cross country and soccer have not gone away and to this day I can squat a fair amount of weight. For years though, I have fought my body to be skinny. All I had ever wanted were those tight abs, thigh gap, and…a smaller chest too. For those who know me very personally, that has always been a struggle of mine.
There was a point I was “skinny”. After coming back from six months spent in Europe, I weighed 125 pounds, and probably have never looked worse in my life. While I was skinny, I looked unhealthy, which in a way was kind of true. I had been eating a poor diet because most of the time I was over there, I could not afford the cost of living and began living off of soups, salads, and steamed broccoli.
I think back on that and realize I am not meant to be a skinny girl. Just like all women, I am meant to be a healthy girl. I actually like muscle. After leg day, when my quads are throbbing and I can barely get down to sit in a chair, I’m excited. Or when I see the definition forming in my arms after triceps dips.
To re-focus and think about my goals specifically, I’ve decided to write and give myself a place to vent my thoughts about this process. Somedays it’s not easy. I beat myself up to no end sometimes about missing a workout when I work too late at the office or have a change to my schedule. But there are also days, I am really proud of the progress I make, little and large.
When I first went through my weight loss journey, I made sure to eat the things I wanted, go out the nights I felt like it, and continue to live the life I had wanted to live. Back then, I was also walking close to four miles a day on top of two workouts a day. So now, I am adjusting this to the sedentary lifestyle that comes with working a desk job that happens to be a one hour each way commute from where I live.
Now, I am buckling down and focusing on my fitness goals. I have signed up for my first triathlon EVER and I’m about to run my first half marathon (yay!! BIG DEAL after a knee injury) and I am attempting 12 weeks of Kayla Itsine’s BBG.
To me, it’s just a giant science experiment, to see what I can create out of fueling my body with various “chemicals” and changing the environmental factors…totally not a science person, but you get my point.
Wish me luck!
Sarah
