The Prince and The Plumber - Chapter 1: The Prince
The Prince: Forced to flee due to being hunted down by people he used to trust. Sent to the Mushroom Kingdom in order to hide him away until the growing evil can be taken care of. Didn't realize he'd find more than safety.
The Plumber: Used to being the second hero, the younger brother, the last resort. Used to being looked over, even though he's the taller one. Close to giving up on finding someone he connects with that's not his brother. He's surprised to find someone new working at the florist.

It was deathly quiet. The kingdom blanketed in heavy shadows. The moon was unseen in the sky, hidden by thick, dark clouds.
A small group fled from the large castle.
One large form was taking the lead, checking to make sure their path was clear before waving the other two on. A heavy sword resting on their hip. The other two smaller forms follow closely behind. All wearing large hooded cloaks and carrying very little on their backs. No one spoke. But the fear was palpable.
There was a brief moment of hope filling their chest when they saw the border. The base of the large mountains where the forest began to thin out. Trees turning into wide prairies and rolling hills.
If they could just travel through the darkness, even with how open it was, they knew they would be safe.
The quiet was instantly broken when an explosion sounded before them. The largest of the three quickly covered the other two. Taking a defensive stance as the ground finally stopped shaking.
“Finkrats!” A shrieking voice sounded from above. A Beanish being wearing a heavy red cloak and a strange looking contraption on his head descended before the group. A wide smile stretched tight across their face. “Did kernel sized brain dolts think you could pull the wool over the great Cackletta’s eyes? Fools! Idiots!”
The larger of the hooded figures drew their sword. “Lady Lima, would you be so kind as to escort my son away from here.”
“Mother-”
“Do you think I will be giving you the allowance to flee?” the floating figure shouted out, “Your plan is just an annoyance! Such as a wad of gum at the bottom of our gorgeous plan’s shoes. None shall flee! It will be in your best health to turn yourself over!”
The flying figure let out a shriek of fear, just barely avoiding the sword that was skillfully thrown their way. The wielder turned back towards the other two.
“Run!”
One had to pull the other forward as they left the fighting behind.
“Lady Lima-”
“We can’t stay, Prince Peasley.”
“I can’t leave her behind!”
“Your mother wants you safe. Please.”
The sounds of shrieking and clashing metal soon faded away. The duo of fleeing figures moving over the large hills as quickly as they could. Their harsh breathing soon became the only sound they could hear.
Reaching the crest of the latest hill, they caught an unnatural light in the valley before them. Recognizing it to be a carriage, but not one from their kingdom. Two Toads were stationed by it. One at the reigns with the other right by the door, who was already opening it for them.
“Where’s Queen Bean?” The Toad asked fearfully as Peasley was practically shoved in first.
“Not here,” Lady Lima snipped out, “the plan has changed. Please, we need to leave.”
She made sure to sit between the door and Peasley. There was no further discussion shared with the Toads as they both sat at the front. The carriage jerked as it quickly departed.
Peasley leaned forward from his seat. Eyes frantically scanning the darkness as if expecting his mother to appear.
“Your highness, please sit back.”
“I-”
“Peasley…we can’t do anything.”
Hearing the defeat in Lady Lima’s voice seemed to be the factor needed for Peasley to agree that they couldn’t help. Slumping back into the chair. Looking absolutely defeated.
The ride remained quiet as they traveled along. The outside world was just as dark as when they fled, nothing seemed to keep Peasley’s mind off the situation. Left to squeeze his hands together in hopes that the pain would be enough to distract.
Even arriving at the Mushroom Kingdom didn't leave that much of an impact.
The first meeting to this kingdom should have been wonderful. Warming. A large and open welcome.
Suppose life doesn’t fully work out that way.
They only stopped when they reached the back of the castle. Only able to be seen by the standard torches that illuminated the small area. The travelers stepped out of the carriage and were greeted by Princess Peach and Toadsworth. Both give a relieved smile…only for it to falter when the expected third didn’t exit the carriage as well.
“Pardon me,” Toadsworth started, “but where is Queen Bean?”
Whatever resolve Peasley had been able to hang onto crumbled away. Doing his best to hide his face as tears started to fall, arms wrapping around himself tightly. He didn’t fight back as another pair of arms gently enveloped him. Pulling Peasley into a strong hold with the smell of sweet fruit washing over him.
“She’ll be okay, I’m sure of it.” Peach said softly, uncaring of the tears falling onto her dress. Shoulder becoming wet. “But our priority now is keeping you safe.”
“S-She didn’t allow m-me a chance to h-help.” Peasley choked out.
“Because she wanted to know you were able to get away safely. Prince Peasley, cry as you need to, but know that she did it to get you away from there.”
The prince nodded slowly at this.
“How about we get you both settled and off to bed, yes?”
_____________________________
When Princess Peach had been initially contacted, it was in the form of a pleading letter from Queen Bean. Acting queen to the BeanBean Kingdom. A place that had remained as separated from other areas as best they could.
While the letter didn’t explain in full details the situation, it was a desperate request for her son, Prince Peasley, to find sanctuary in the Mushroom Kingdom. The prince had become a target of some dangerous individuals. Asking that, if the worst was to pass, Peasley could be tucked away as a new citizen within the Mushroom Kingdom until a solution could be found.
Peach agreed immediately.
When a new letter arrived stating that Queen Bean, her lady-in-waiting, and the prince would be arriving soon, Peach did what she could. Subtly building a new home that was larger than usual. Making sure the royals could have a comfortable and safe life here until they could return to their own kingdom once more. Even setting up a ‘job’ for the prince that Peach knew he would enjoy.
As worried as she was for the absence of Queen Bean, Peach continued to put on a brave face. Smiling softly as she led the newcomers of her kingdom to their residence for the next…however long they needed to remain here. Hoping in some way to ease Peasley’s quiet worries.
“And here we are,” Peach announced as they walked into the newly constructed home, “Full amenities offered to make your stay here more comfortable. And I do mean full. Two stories, all bedrooms on the second floor.”
“Thank you Princess Peach, you are more than kind.” said Lady Lima.
“This is honestly the least I can do. Prince Peasley, you may be happy to hear that our local florist Myriostoma has a place open in her shop for help. I figured being around some flowers may help you since I can’t offer you a full garden.”
Peasley’s hand gripped onto the back of the kitchen chair tightly, mouth pulled thin. Peach was fearful that she may have stepped out of line with the offer. Only for him to nod slowly and reply with, “Of course…thank you.”
“I hope it would be some way to help you keep your mind off of things.” Peach’s smile faltered when Peasley turned further away, back now facing her. “Well, how about we let you two get some sleep. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can get for you.”
She swallowed down her ‘enjoy your evening’ and instead opted for a low bow. Soon departing from the new home and heading back to the castle. Toadsworth by her side. It was only when they were safely back, in Peach’s bedroom specifically, that he finally spoke up.
“What are you thinking, princess?”
“If we could possibly send the brothers to help and-”
“I understand your concern my dear. But this Cackletta is dealing with magic that none of us have seen before. It’s best to move forward with Queen Bean’s request and focus on keeping the prince safe.”
“Then may we at least be forward with them? Allow them to also be aware of the situation.”
“They’ve not ever returned from their latest outing yet. Let’s allow the waters to calm and for these villains to be thrown off Peasley’s trail before doing so. In case we have some unsavory characters around, listening in. We just need to be mindful of how we move forward, for the betterment of everyone. For now, I would suggest following your own advice and getting some sleep.”
Peach nodded slowly, heart feeling heavy over the situation.
_____________________________
“Decide which room you would like to stay in sire.” Lady Lima said while waving her hand further down the hallway on the second floor. Offering a warm smile to the somber prince.
Peasley barely looked up as he passed by. Entering the first room on the left. “This one.”
“Your highness, you haven’t even seen the rest of them.”
“Does it matter, does it really?” Peasley more or less stomped further into the bedroom. Dropping onto the small bed and burying his face into the pillow.
“Of course it matters,” Lady Lima argued, “I want to know that you’re comfortable.”
“I would feel ‘comfortable’ if I was back in the BeanBean kingdom. I would feel ‘comfortable’ if Cackletta wasn’t hunting me down! I would feel ‘comfortable’ if you’d allow me to go back and help my mother!”
Letting out a slow sight, Lady Lima moved into the room proper. Laying a gentle hand on the weeping prince’s shoulder.
“Come now, sit up. Let’s wipe those tears away.” She gave her warm smile once more as Peasley did as asked. His head still hanging low. Unflinching as Lady Lima pulled out a handkerchief and gently dabbed at his cheeks.
“This situation is…”
“Horrible.” Peasley weakly offered.
“Not what we had originally planned. This is scary, I won’t lie. But your mother made it very clear that you are the priority in this situation.”
“I don’t want to be…”
“Neither do I. I wish none of this was happening. But we must move forward with what’s been presented to us and do what we can. This situation will sort itself out, you have to believe that it will.”
“My belief is not very high right now…”
“That…is understandable. We’ll just try and focus on what we can for now. Starting with which room you actually want.”
Peasley let out a slow sight and gave a low nod, dull eyes looking around. It was a small room, even more so in comparison to his room at the castle. It was relatively bare save for the few essentials in furniture. A simple dresser, desk, and bed with a small mirror hanging on the wall. There was not much else. The light wood unblemished, a clear indication at how new this house was. Even with how small it was, Peasley felt content there.
“No, I’m fine with this one. I very much doubt the other rooms are that much different.”
“But you haven’t seen them.”
“I’m content here, really. I just…want to get some sleep, please…”
“Of course. How about we take tomorrow to just…rest up? See what the town holds for us?”
Peasley merely nodded.
After Lady Lima left, he sat on the edge of the bed. Supposed it was his bed now. Even though he didn’t want to think about it that way. He should be trying to get some sleep, but his mind didn’t want to shut up. Jumping to all the ‘what-ifs’ and unachievable possibilities.
At some point, Peasley did fall asleep. Well, more passed out as he never properly got onto the bed. Instead falling over on his side, barely on the bed, still dressed in the outfit he’d fled in. The beanish prince let out a low groan as he moved, muscles and bones protesting, sore and very tight.
The sun was low in the sky, but enough to paint the room in a warm, orange glow. Making it seem somehow larger than it was the previous night. Which didn’t make Peasley feel better about the situation.
Shuffling over to the dresser, Peasley was surprised to find it already filled. Simple garments of simple materials that fitted the prince well. A small smile fleeting across his face, remembering the farmers who wore the same while working in the fields. How strange it was to feel comfort in fabrics that he’d never worn before.
He chalked it up to how homesick he was feeling.
Fully dressed, Peasley headed down the stairs and was met with a wonderful smile. Surprised to find Lady Lima putting around the kitchen. Filing a plate properly before placing it on the small table.
“Good morning sire. How did you sleep?”
“Uh…well enough, I suppose. I don’t think I truly slept. More like passed out. I’m not even really awake to be honest.”
“Let’s get you something to eat and see how you feel afterwards.”
“I didn’t know you could cook.” Peasley commented as he was ushered to the table. Sitting before the plate already resting on it.
“I’m a woman of many talents,” Lady Lima replied, “I had more jobs before I was head lady-in-waiting. How about after we eat, we explore the kingdom. Allow ourselves to become used to living here?”
Even with how wonderful the food tasted, it felt like slime in Peasley’s mouth. Settling heavy in his stomach. It was an honest request. It shouldn’t hurt him so much.
“Um…yes, I suppose so. That makes sense…”
“At the very most, we can possibly find something for your room.”
“Sure…”
“We could even see that florist that Princess Peach was talking about.”
Peasley nodded.
“...Prince Peasley, you need to answer me, please.”
“No, I agree. That sounds like a good idea. I’m fine with that.”
Lady Lima fell quiet and gave a small nod of her own. No further words were exchanged.
Peasley took a deep breath when they left the house. Missing the hint of damp dirt that the BeanBean Kingdom held in the air. Instead replaced with warmed glass and metal. At least the sun was as bright as back home. A small smile formed feeling the heat wash over him.
The main city of the Mushroom Kingdom was busy, even for how early in the morning it still was. Multiple Toads with different colored spotted caps were rushing around. Businesses called out what they were selling and greeted customers with wide smiles. It was loud and crowded. Even if the Toads were barely reached past Peasley’s waist, the prince still felt cramped.
“This is…very different,” Peasley said, “The streets are not as crowded as…at home.”
“I agree. But we just have to make do with what we have right now. Oh, this shop looks interesting. Why don’t we go in?”
Peasely wasn’t sure if he was so worried about the situation or if he was truly just uninterested at what the kingdom had to offer. But he was unsure about all of this.
The BeanBean Kingdom was a major producer of farming and agriculture. It was green, bright, vibrant, a world full of vegetation and plant life.
The Mushroom Kingdom was a mess of noises and colors. Weird mechanical wonders that would whoosh the Toads around or produce sounds that roared above the number of Toads.
It was too crowded.
Too noisy.
Too much.
Peasley wrapped his arms around himself. Finding the ground more interesting than anything around him.
How could the world be so brilliant and yet so dull?
He allowed himself to be shepherd from building to building. Merely nodding at the questions Lady Lima gave, uncaring, mind a constant buzz of discomfort. Feeling his skin crawl at the stares they would receive passing by.
Relief hit him when a sweet smell wafted over to him. Peering up found himself drawing closer to a florist shop. Bundles of multi-colored flowers filling out the wooden crates and holders. The building itself was a neutral brown, calming and complimenting to the bursts of color surrounding it. Just peeking out behind was a small greenhouse placed in the backyard.
Peasley felt his shoulders relax as they drew closer.
A Toad with a lilac-colored spotted cap shuffled out of the cozy building. Carrying a watering can with a small bag draped around her shoulder. Getting closer showed some of her spots being a darker shade with winkles at the corners of her eyes and mouth. She flashed a warm smile when she finally spotted them.
“Good morning! What can I help you with today?”
“Good morning,” Lady Lima shuffled closer, “Would you be Ms. Myriostoma?”
“Indeed I am, but you may call me Myrio. I’m assuming you are Mrs. Lima and Peasley? Princess Peach said we had new arrivals to our kingdom and that one of you had a high interest in flowers?”
“That would be my grandson, Peasley.”
Said person was pulled over. Offering a weak smile to the Toad, whose eyes were on him. “Um, yes, good morning.”
“Wonderful to meet you,” Myrio said with her smile seeming to grow, “I figured you’re using today to get used to the kingdom?”
“Um, yes ma’am. It’s very…busy.”
“Not used to big areas?”
“We were farmers before arriving here,” Lady Lima explained, “This is a bit of a shock to the both of us. An unexpected change.”
“What caused the move, if I may ask?”
“Family issues.”
“Ah, say no more. I’m sorry to hear this. Pardon me for prying.”
Peasley swallowed weakly, allowing Lady Lima to continue talking. Who gave a small laugh with a wave of her hand. “Not to worry, it’s natural to be curious. I will ask, Princess Peach did say that you may have a position for my grandson?”
“Oh, of course! I’m getting on in age and I just don’t have the mobility like I used to. Would you be alright with starting tomorrow? Allow yourself a full day to get somewhat adjusted.”
Tongue feeling heavy, Peasley merely nodded.
“My grandson’s not much for talking,” Lady Lima said quickly.
“Nerves will do that to you, never you worry. I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning Peasley. For the time being, can I interest you in anything?”
They were soon walking away, Peasley’s arms heavy with a few bouquets. A bag drapped on his arm filled with a few vases.
“I can talk.” Peasley was able to weakly argue back when they were a few blocks away.
“Normally, yes. But you’re in a dangerous situation that none of us want you to be in. If you don’t feel okay with talking, then don’t. It’s okay to be tongue tied with nervousness.”
“But I’m a prince-”
Lady Lima quickly shushed him. Worried eyes darting around before pulling Peasley into a nearby alley. Only speaking when she knew no one would be able to hear them.
“You are a prince, yes. But that doesn’t mean you’re automatically immune to this massive change. This is scary and you need to learn your limitations. You can’t be a prince right now. You need to just be Peasley.”
With a hard swallow, Peasley merely nodded back.
Because he didn’t want to admit he didn't know who Peasley was, if not a prince.
_____________________________
As requested the day before, Peasley arrived to Myrio’s shop before the sun fully rose. The Toad absolutely thrilled as she greeted the prince. Leading Peasley around to show how the shop was to be operated. What flowers needed to be outside and what was kept in the shade of the building. How often to water, when to replant, as well as showing off the garden and greenhouse located in the back.
It was quaint and comforting. A strange piece of calm given to the nervous prince.
The morning was quiet as they worked. Only a few customers stopped by to pick up their purchases. Saying hello to Myrio and offering a warm greeting to Peasley. It was…peaceful. Surprisingly so after the experience he had the day before.
“Is it always this exciting?” Peasley playfully asked.
“Actually, no. I’m very thankful for how quiet it is today.” Myrio laughed softly, “A true normal day would be if Lord Bowser attacked us and tried to capture our princess once again.”
That caused Peasley to almost trip over his own feet. “Wait, what? Who’s ‘Lord Bowser’? That’s normal for this kingdom?”
He thought this place was supposed to be safe? Why in the world would his mother send him here?
“Oh goodness, you really live under a rock, don’t you?” There was another round of gentle laugh before Myrio answered, “Bowser is the current acting ruler for the Dark Lands. He also has a very creepy obsession with Princess Peach. I’ve seen a few homes being destroyed and rebuilt over the years.”
“How is this place still standing?”
Peasley’s question was not answered. At least not right away.
Instead, their attention was pulled further down the street where a cry of surprise was heard. Quickly followed by a loud crash and a call of ‘Sorry!’.
Peasley caught sight of a green piece of fabric, a hat, floating easily through the air. A brief moment of confusion, wondering where  that had come from, crossed his mind before it smacked right into his face. Causing him to drop the watering can in surprise, reaching up for it.
“Oh goodness! Oh…Luigi!” Myrio’s voice called out with a laugh.
“I’m so sorry!” A new voice called out, sounding very out of breath, “The wind took my hat and I’ve been chasing it for two blocks and- I’m very sorry…”
“I’m not the one who ‘caught’ it.”
At this point, Peasley was able to pull the hat away. A little heated that a garment took him so easily by surprise.
Only for the bitter feeling to disappear when his eyes landed on the newcomer.
They were human. Rounded ears seen peeking out from beneath ruffled dark brown hair. Skin a pale peachy color with red cheeks, no doubt from the running they had done. A sleek mustache the same color as his hair resting beneath his round nose. Dressed in deep blue overalls with a green shirt, the same shade as the hat.
But what pulled Peasley’s attention the most were the blue eyes. Wide and shining. Peasley couldn’t decide what the color reminded him of more. It was torn between a clear summer sky or of his favorite colored roses.
He wasn't sure how long he’d been gapping. But Peasley was pulled from his trance hearing Myrio.
“I’m very pleased to introduce to you one of our great heroes that keeps our kingdom safe. This is Luigi.”

Oooo I really like your new story! How will Harry and Voldemorts first meeting go? Will Harry meet Neville soon? I’m hooked already!
Neville Longbottom heard of the florist weeks before he met him due to his parents. The family business had always been trading; his parents kept this alive by joining the village traveling merchants. Their village is small, but it is a two-day trip to the capital, so the village would make their wares and send it off with the merchants to sell bi-monthly.
A small fee would cover the traveling merchants' pay for selling other villagers' wares. There were only two ways to join on the trip, one could prove their worth in combat and be a well enough merchant that impressed the guild, or one had to be part of a legacy like Neville.
His ancestors were one of the original twelve families that settled in the village, so they had special privileges. Alice, his mother, is in the first category- earning her place through her swordsmanship and hair accessories. His father, Frank, is in the second category learning how to be a traveling merchant on his mother's knee.
The Longbottoms have always been wood carvers, and so Neville learned how to cut a bird out of wood before he learned how to ride a horse. His parents always beamed in pride whenever Neville showed them his latest carving after their return.
Whenever they left on one of their trips, Neville stayed behind in the village with his grandmother to man the shop. He took lessons in everything from sales to navigation using the stars, just as his father did.
Neville counted down to his eleventh birthday when he would finally be old enough to go on a trip, as per tradition.
About a month ago, his parents return with bewildered expressions and flowers so vibrantly breathtaking Neville had made them the subject for a few of his practice blocks of wood.
"A new merchant in the capital market," Frank said that night as every settled for dinner. "A florist." Been going for a month now, and he has almost everything in grandfather's flower book."
"Where in the world did he find so many flowers?" His grandmother asked in surprise. "The last time the empire's soil could support floras like that was when I was a child!"
"Was that before the curse Gran?" Neville asks, gently tracing his fingers over the petals of a pale pink flower. It's one of the prettiest things he's ever seen.
"Yes, child. When I was about your age, the surrounding hills bloomed with flowers. Different colors, as far as the eye could see, danced in the wind. The air always smelled so sweet, like candy." Gran replies, tone wishful, staring out the window to the mentioned hills.
Neville turns to look, trying to image the green grassy hills he knew looking like the flowers on the dinner table. He couldn't.
"That was before the Curse stop them from growing. Thankfully it didn't harm the trees or the grass, but any flower would wilt and die." Alice sighs. "My mother's family were florists once, but now only a few nobles can have flowers. They need magic to make them grow."
"Does that mean the florist is a nobleman?" Neville asks and his father scoffs at his bread.
"Like a noble would stoop so low as to work for their money. No, he's probably a spirit."
"Frank," His mother cuts in with a sigh "The boy is not a spirit."
"You don't know that."
"Yes! I do! He's clearly human."
"That's what he wants you to think." He leans towards Neville, wagging his eyebrows. He lowers his voice as if he is sharing a great secret. "The pubs were all saying the same thing. No one knows who is is, where he goes or where he came from. They say he disappears as soon as he walks back into the forest. Like a ghost."
"Frank."
Neville snickers, as his mother wacks her husband on the back of his head. "Enough. The only thing otherworldly about the boy is his beauty."
"Is he handsome?" Neville asks and his mother's eyes sparkle.
"More pretty than handsome. He gives the flowers a run for their money."
Neville tries to picture a boy that is that pretty. He can't.
Then his grandmother mentions how the shop has seen an increase in bridal hair accessories with winter approaching, and the conversation moves on. He doesn't think much about the florist until two months later when his parents return from another trip, this time with more than one type of flower bouquet.
They were so colorful and new that he spent hours just watering them. It drove him to seek his great-grandfather's old books. Before the curse, the Longbottoms had a flower farm, and the secrets of growing them were kept for future heads of the house to study.
Never before had he cared about those old books- what point was there in studying something he could not use?- but the rush of learning of flora was like nothing he had ever felt.
He loved it. He loved the way they looked, loved the way they were described, and what they could do. Remedies, cures, food, and more.
Accident potions that anyone could make, no magic required. Herbology- his great grandfather's book said- is an entire field of plant study that used to save so many lives.
All were lost due to the curse.
For once, he wanted something more than being a traveling merchant.
He wanted to be a herbologist. He wanted to see plants and learn everything about them. He wanted to grow his own.
The day he finally went on a traveling trip, a week after he turned eleven, Neville was more excited to see the florist than he was about leaving his small village.
When he finally saw Bloom- the name the florist gave out he felt his heart shudder to a halt before jumping around like a spooked rabbit.
His mother has lied. Bloom was not as pretty as a flower; Bloom was much more beautiful.
He was also Neville's age, which was unfair. How was Neville supposed to have a conversation with someone so beautiful that was his age? His knees were shaking just being around him.
"Hello," Bloom said when he spotted him staring, shooting the stun new merchant a crooked smile. It shoots liquid fire through Neville's veins. "Would you like to buy some flowers?"
. He held up a pot of the very first flowers his parents bought. Now that he had read his great-grandfather's book of flower languages, he knew they were camellias- the flower of destiny.
Neville would later learn that camellias were a perfect flower for Bloom. The florist would always be in battle with destiny.
Currently, he could only babble his way through the purchase and run back to his carriage to hide his burning face. His father teased him mercilessly about fancying the florist.

Rose found their home a tad suffocating, so they liked to venture out and take little jobs such as walking dogs, tending to gardens, helping deliver packages, etc. While lacking in physical strength and intellectual capacity, Rose's easygoing nature made them easy to work with and gave everyone a soft spot. Everyone except their mother, unfortunately, who was always working her tail off and constantly cursing the "deadbeat" who got her pregnant with a mediocre child then fled. After Rose's mother worked herself into cardiac arrest, they packed their belongings and decided to set out for South Korea, to find the father they never knew. (They probably should have thought this plan out better, considering he could have died in the past 21 years, but Rose is a bit of an airhead.) While looking for their dad and for odd jobs to earn money, Rose got a curious call offering free room, board, and food, just to test a game. That didn't sound too hard!

Who Is Drake’s Mother And Why Does He Take Every Opportunity To Celebrate Her
Shaoni DasFebruary 10, 2021
In just a few short years, Drake has cemented his status as one of the biggest celebrities in the world.
He’s more than a mere artist. He’s undoubtedly one of Canada’s national treasures and one of hip-hop’s most beloved and buzzworthy figures. He draws in attention wherever he goes, whenever he speaks — his voice and reach are unsurmountable in many ways.
Over the years, the rapper has maintained the narrative that he’s “started from the bottom” and has reached the upper echelons of fame and success through nothing but sheer hard work. While most of his fans adore him for being so earnest about his origins, many of his detractors peddle a different theory and propose that not everything about his life story is as authentic as it seems.
Seeing how Drake croons on and on about his humble beginnings, it’s worth examining what indeed occurred in his childhood, the impact his parents had had on his passions and character, and how his upbringing drives his relationship with his son Adonis.
Drake and his mom were “very poor” but she still encouraged him to follow his dreams

Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, to Sandi and Dennis Graham. His African-American father originated from a musical family in Memphis, Tennessee, and had been a drummer for artist Jerry Lee Lewis at one point. He moved to Toronto in the eighties and had met Sandi Sher at a nightclub called Club Bluenote. Sandi, a Canadian woman of Ashkenazi Jewish background, had worked as an English teacher and occasionally as a florist at the time.
Unfortunately, Dennis and Sandi’s marriage didn’t last for a long time; the two divorced when Drake was just five, and Dennis proceed to move back to Tennessee. As a young Black Jewish boy, Drake felt out of place and misunderstood for most of his childhood.
Sandi tried her best to raise and support Drake as a single mother, but she faced several struggles financially and physically. For most of his young life, Drake grew up on Weston Road in Toronto, which he claims, was “not the nicest area in the world.” Sandi suffered from osteoporosis and joint pain, which left her isolated in her bedroom for most of Drake’s childhood. Her poor health drove her to smoke heavily and take an exorbitant amount of pain meds.
When Drake was in the sixth grade, his mother moved him to a wealthier part of town, Forest Hill, so they didn’t live in an “area that could create trouble for her son.” But Drake maintains that the family was still “broke” and had to rent the basement and the first floor of a house.
Everybody thinks I went to some private school and my family was rich. Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I haven’t talked enough about it, but I didn’t grow up happy. I wasn’t in a happy home. My mother was very sick. We were very poor, like broke.  none
Despite their tumultuous life, Sandi still managed to throw Drake a Bar Mitzvah and encouraged him to follow his dreams. She never forced him to live by a certain code or implement anything in particular, but she still wanted the best for him. For a brief period, Drake went to a Jewish day school, but nobody “understood” him or his identity as a young Black Jewish boy. Despite those challenges, Drake always felt uplifted by his mother, who celebrated him at every instance. Therefore, the rapper does his best to honour his mother on every occasion and show her a world of gratitude for everything she’s done for him.
My mother is an incredible woman. She’s always just told me, ‘You know, whatever you want to do, whatever you end up being, I’ll always love you. I’ll always support you.’ none
Drake claims to have had a deadbeat father, but his dad says otherwise

While Drake’s mother was bedridden and “deteriorating,” Drake’s father was in and out of jail. Dennis had had two stints in prison while Drake was growing up, leading him to miss massive chunks of his son’s childhood and adolescence. As a result, Drake believes he didn’t “have a father” growing up.
However, Dennis himself claimed that he brought Drake down to Memphis every year, “from the time he was a baby in the car seat to the time he was 17.” Additionally, it was through Dennis’s influence that Drake was able to nurture his passion for music. In fact, Drake recalled that Dennis’s prison roommate, who rapped to Drake over the phone, sparked his love for hip-hop.
Dennis claimed that Drake was using the “absentee-father” narrative to “sell records,” but Drake refused those accusations, saying on his Instagram, “My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him.”
Though both Drake and his father’s testimonies don’t align in this case, it’s safe to say that Drake still didn’t grow up in the most stable household. Yet, at the same time, Drake still appreciates his father.
My father is an incredible man—charming, talented, and stylish—and I’m sort of living the dream he had for himself. But his actions served as that reverse role model for me. There are a lot of things that I don’t ever want to do. I don’t want to miss years of my child’s life. I don’t want to put a woman on a roller-coaster ride.  none
Though it’s hard to confirm whose account is accurate, it doesn’t really matter because both dad and son have a wonderful relationship at the moment. Yes, they have disagreements and still hurt each other now and then, but they still hang out with each other when they can. Drake’s posted many photo albums over the years in which Dennis and Drake are seen mingling or drinking together.
Coming from a broken home, Drake wants to “share memories” with his son Adonis
Credit: Drake Instagram/Snapchat
When Drake’s son Adonis was first born, the rapper was accused of “hiding” his son from the world. The media and the public didn’t know too much about Adonis’s first years, that is, until Drake chose to share his photos for the first time last year.
Since then, Drake hasn’t shied away from letting the whole world into his private life with Adonis. From dropping his son off on his first day of school to celebrating his third birthday, Drake is routinely shown showering his son with love on social media. A lot of the affection can be attributed to how he wants to build a different sort of relationship with his son than the one he shared with his own family.
I want to be able to go places with my son and share memories with my son. I don’t want to feel like just because of a life choice I made to be, you know, a ‘celebrity’ that I got to make everybody live under this blanket. I just wanted to free myself of that.  none
Though he’s not romantically involved with Adonis’ mother, Sophie Brussaux, Drake tries his best to co-parent with her. He knows all too well about what it’s like for the kid when the parents are constantly fighting or in different locations. Drake and Sophie didn’t expect to be in this particular position, but they have to make it work for Adonis’ sake.
I was really hard on my parents for giving me sort of a childhood that I had to wrap my mind around as I grew. Multiple times I sort of suggested that they could have done a better job at co-parenting, sticking together, not being so divided.  none
At the same time, Drake is appreciative of the values his parents had instilled in him. His mother taught him about surviving and holding hope for a better future, while his father told him about honing his craft and live out his dreams to the best of his ability. He said that he’s “all of the things I’ve learned from and through my father and the incredible things I’ve learned through my mother about patience, about unconditional love..”
Your struggles will drive you to be a better person
Drake’s upbringing could have spelled disaster for the rest of his life, yet he barrelled through and emerged victoriously on the other side.  We’ll all have regrets about our upbringing and the conditions under which we were raised. We might feel that our parents could have done a better job and that we will forever remain scarred by their faults.
Yet, at the same time, it’s the same struggles that instill a drive in us that pushes us towards self-development and emotional fulfillment. Drake knew that it’s no use holding resentment for parents that tried to raise him the best given their circumstances. All he can do is set up a life for his son that’s vastly different from this own. Sometimes it’s best to lick our wounds and approach our future with some optimism despite the cards we’ve been dealt.

"Love Beyond Boundaries: A Celestial Romance in Evershade"
In the small town of Evershade, nestled between rolling hills and dense forests, an extraordinary love story was about to unfold. The story began with a young woman named Lila, who lived a simple life as a florist in her family's shop. She had always felt a sense of longing for something more, something magical. One day, while tending to her flowers, she found a note tucked inside a bouquet of exotic blooms. The note was written in an elegant script and read, "You are not alone." Intrigued, Lila followed the trail of clues, which led her to the edge of town. There, she met a mysterious figure with shimmering wings - a celestial being named Astra. Astra revealed that he was her long-lost family member, and together they began exploring the boundaries of love and acceptance in their newfound relationship. As the two grew closer, whispers spread through Evershade about Lila's secret life with Astra. Some embraced the pair, while others shunned them, fearful of the unknown. One evening, as Lila and Astra walked hand-in-hand through the town square, a loud gasp echoed through the crowd. Turning around, they saw an elderly woman, her face contorted in horror. "You're one of them!" she cried. "A creature from beyond our world!" In that moment, Lila realized that everything she thought she knew about Astra was a lie. He wasn't her long-lost family member; he was an extraterrestrial being who had infiltrated her life to study human emotions. Astra, sensing her heartbreak, chose to reveal the truth and risk losing Lila for love. The twist shattered Lila's understanding of their relationship, leaving her uncertain of how to proceed. With heavy hearts, they decided to take a step back from each other and reevaluate their feelings. In the end, only time would tell if love could conquer all boundaries, even those that came from beyond our world. Lila's eyes widened as she read the mysterious note, her heart racing with anticipation. "Meet me at Evershade Park," it instructed. She had always loved the quaint little park, with its lush greenery and vibrant flowers. As she walked through the gates, she couldn't help but notice the unusual stillness that hung in the air, as if the world itself was holding its breath. Just as she was beginning to doubt her decision, a figure emerged from the shadows. Astra's ethereal beauty took Lila's breath away. "Who...what are you?" Lila asked, her voice barely audible. Astra smiled gently. "I am Astra, a celestial being sent to explore Earth," she replied. "And I have come to you because I sensed your love for nature and flowers." Lila couldn't believe her ears. "But how...why me?" she stammered. "Because our paths were destined to cross, my dear Lila," Astra reassured her. "We are bound by a force greater than ourselves – the power of love and acceptance." Lila had always been drawn to the mysterious and the unknown, which was why she loved working as a florist in the small, charming town of Evershade. The vibrant colors of her flowers seemed to embody the beauty of the universe itself, and she couldn't help but imagine that each blossom held its own secret story. One day, while arranging a bouquet, Lila found a strange note tucked between the pages of an old book in her shop. It was written in beautiful, flowing script, and it read: "Follow the path to Evershade Park, and you will find what you've been searching for." Intrigued by the message, Lila decided to explore Evershade Park at sunset. As she walked through the park, a gentle breeze rustled the leaves around her. Suddenly, she felt a presence behind her. Turning around, she saw a figure standing in the shadows. "Are you Astra?" the figure asked timidly. "Astra? Who told you that name?" Lila responded, trying to hide her nerves. "I am Astra," the figure revealed itself, stepping out of the darkness. "And I'm here because of our shared values of love and acceptance." Astra's voice was melodic and calming, like a gentle lullaby on a stormy night. In that moment, Lila knew she had found something extraordinary. The two began to explore their connection and the boundaries of love, all while discovering the true nature of Astra's identity. And as they did so, they realized that even the most unexpected relationships could be filled with wonder, joy, and the power to change everything they thought they knew. The mysterious note led Lila to a hidden corner of Evershade Park. As she stepped into the secluded area, she felt a strange energy enveloping her. "What am I doing here?" she wondered aloud. Just then, she heard a soft voice behind her. Turning around, she saw a figure shrouded in a glowing aura. The figure introduced itself as Astra, a celestial being exploring Earth. "We've been drawn to each other because of our shared values of love and acceptance," Astra explained. Lila felt a sudden warmth in her heart. "It feels like I've known you forever," she said, taking Astra's hand. They spent the day wandering through the park, sharing stories and laughing. As evening approached, they sat down on a bench overlooking the lake. "Do you ever feel like you don't belong?" Lila asked hesitantly. Astra nodded. "All the time," she admitted. "But I believe that love can conquer all boundaries." And with that, they held hands and watched the sun set, their hearts full of hope for a future where love would always triumph. Lila couldn't shake off the mysterious feeling that had been haunting her since she found the cryptic note at her flower shop. The note read, "Come to Evershade Park at dusk." Intrigued and desperate for a break from reality, she decided to follow its instructions. Upon arriving at the park, Lila was met with an ethereal sight: Astra, a celestial being whose radiant presence seemed to defy the laws of nature. As their eyes met, they were both struck by a sense of familiarity and longing. "I've been searching for you," Astra said softly, her voice like the first whisper of a gentle breeze. "We have much to discuss." Lila, hesitant but curious, asked, "Are we... family?" Astra shook her head. "No, my dear one. I am not your long-lost relative. I am an extraterrestrial being, a stranger from beyond the stars." For a moment, the world seemed to shift around them, and Lila felt as if she had been knocked sideways by a sudden gust of wind. Yet, Astra's warm hands brought her back to the park bench they shared, overlooking the serene lake below. "But that doesn't change what we share," Astra continued, her voice full of conviction. "Love is boundless, and it knows no limits." Lila nodded, a newfound understanding washing over her. "We can learn from this, you and I. We can find a way to share our love and acceptance with the world around us." Together, they stood hand in hand, watching the sun set over Evershade Park, their hearts filled with hope for a brighter future where love would always triumph. Lila stared at the mysterious note in her hand, unable to comprehend its meaning. It was as if it had been written just for her. The words seemed to dance on the page, beckoning her towards an adventure she never could have imagined. With a deep breath, she decided to follow the cryptic message and see where it led her. As Lila walked through the bustling streets of Evershade, she felt a growing sense of anticipation. The note had instructed her to go to Astra's Cafe, and so that was her destination. Upon entering, she was greeted by the warm glow of the cafe's interior, a stark contrast to the gray skies outside. Lila scanned the room, searching for any sign of the person who had sent her the note. Suddenly, she noticed a figure sitting in the corner, their eyes locked onto hers. A rush of adrenaline coursed through her veins as Lila approached the stranger, her heart pounding in her chest. As she drew nearer, she could see that they were unlike anyone she had ever encountered before. Their skin seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly quality, and their eyes held a depth of wisdom that transcended human understanding. "You must be Astra," Lila stammered, trying to hide her nerves. Astra smiled gently, their voice as enchanting as the rest of them. "I am. And you must be Lila." In that moment, Lila knew she had found something rare and beautiful. Together, they would explore the depths of love and acceptance, even if it meant challenging the boundaries of their small town. Little did they know, however, that Astra was not a long-lost family member, but an extraterrestrial being. This revelation would force them to confront their feelings and reevaluate their understanding of love and belonging. In the meantime, Lila found another mysterious note leading her to Evershade Park. As they walked through the park, Astra shared stories from their home world and laughed at Lila's quirky anecdotes. The sun began to set, casting a warm glow over them as they sat on a bench by the lake. They held hands, gazing into each other's eyes and feeling a connection unlike any other. In that moment, hope blossomed in their hearts, a testament to love's ability to triumph over even the most insurmountable of barriers. In the small, secluded town of Evershade, where everything seemed ordinary at first glance, there existed extraordinary connections between humans and fantastical creatures. Lila, a talented florist, was known for her ability to bring life and color to even the most dreary spaces. One day, she discovered a mysterious note that led her to a hidden corner of Evershade Park. As Lila cautiously approached the park's edge, she came across Astra, a celestial being with an ethereal aura. They were instantly drawn to each other, their eyes meeting and sparking a connection that seemed to defy all logic. Despite the differences in their appearances, they began to share stories of love, loss, and longing. Their conversations flowed effortlessly, as if they had known each other for lifetimes. ``` Lila: "You know, I've always felt like I didn't quite fit in here." Astra: "I understand. It can be hard to find our place in this world." Lila: "But maybe we were meant to find each other, and together, we can make sense of it all." ``` Their connection grew stronger by the day, as they explored the park's winding paths and hidden nooks. They reveled in the beauty of their shared moments, as the sun cast a golden glow on the lake's surface and the trees rustled in harmony with the gentle breeze. One evening, as they sat on a bench overlooking the water, Lila revealed a secret: she had been searching for her long-lost family member, believed to be an extraterrestrial being. To her astonishment, Astra admitted that he was indeed that very person, but not related to her by blood. ``` Astra: "I'm sorry, Lila. I should have told you the truth from the beginning." Lila: "It's okay, Astra. We can still find our way together, no matter where we come from." ``` In this moment of vulnerability and honesty, they realized that their love transcended boundaries and expectations. They continued to build a life together in Evershade, proving that love could triumph over any obstacle, even those from different worlds. In the quaint town of Evershade, Lila, a florist, was preparing for another day of work when she stumbled upon a mysterious note. Curiosity piqued, she decided to follow the directions it provided, which led her to a hidden corner of the park where she met Astra, a celestial being who had been sent to Earth by mistake. Together, they embarked on an adventure that would change their lives forever. As they explored Evershade, they found solace in each other's company, and their bond grew stronger. One sunny afternoon, Lila received another note from Astra, inviting her to meet him at Evershade Park. Excited, she quickly made her way to the park, her heart pounding with anticipation. Upon arriving, she found Astra sitting on a bench near the lake, his eyes sparkling under the sunlight. "You look stunning today," Lila remarked, her voice filled with joy. "Thank you, Lila," Astra replied, a blush creeping up his cheeks. "I wanted to show you how beautiful our world can be." With that, he waved his hand, and a burst of colorful flowers appeared around them, their sweet aroma filling the air. "I never realized how much I missed home until I met you," Astra admitted, his voice filled with emotion. "And I never knew what true love felt like until I met you," Lila confessed, tears brimming in her eyes. She reached out and took Astra's hand, their fingers intertwining as they gazed into each other's eyes. The sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the park, and Lila and Astra knew that no matter where they were from, their love would conquer all boundaries. Lila's eyes widened as she read the mysterious note, her heart racing with anticipation. She had always been drawn to the fantastical and otherworldly, and this seemed no exception. As she followed the trail of breadcrumbs left by the enigmatic message, she found herself in Evershade Park, a place filled with beauty and magic that she had only ever read about in her wildest dreams. There, she met Astra, a celestial being who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Their connection was immediate, as if they were two halves of the same soul. They spent their days exploring the park's hidden corners and their nights sharing stories under the stars. As they grew closer, the boundaries between their worlds seemed to blur, and they found themselves questioning what it meant to truly love someone who came from a place so different from their own. As the sun began to set one evening, they sat on a bench overlooking the park's tranquil lake. "I've always felt like I don't belong," Lila confessed. "But being with you... it makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger, something beyond this world." Astra smiled gently and held her hand, their fingers intertwining like two delicate vines. In that moment, the weight of the revelation pressed down on them: Astra was an extraterrestrial being, not a long-lost family member as they had once believed. As they stood at the edge of the lake, their hearts heavy with newfound knowledge and uncertainty, they knew they must take a step back and reevaluate the love that had grown between them. In the end, however, it was hope that prevailed. For in the depths of their hearts, they both knew that no matter how different their worlds might be, love would always find a way to triumph. Lila couldn't help but feel drawn to the mysterious note she found tucked away in her garden, with its cryptic message about meeting someone at Evershade Park. She decided to follow it, curious and excited for the adventure that lay ahead. Upon arriving at the park, Lila felt a strange sense of familiarity wash over her as she gazed around, taking in the lush greenery and vibrant colors. It wasn't long before she spotted a figure sitting on a bench, their back to her. Approaching cautiously, she couldn't believe her eyes when the figure turned around and revealed itself to be Astra, a celestial being with ethereal beauty. "Hello," Astra said softly, her voice like a whisper of wind through the trees. "I've been waiting for you." Lila felt her heart race as she stammered out a response, "I-I... found a note. It said to meet you here." Astra smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with curiosity and kindness. "I know. And I'm so glad you came." As they spent the day wandering through Evershade Park, Lila and Astra shared stories of their lives, their families, and their dreams for the future. They laughed together, their voices blending with the melodies of birdsong and the gentle rustling of leaves. As evening approached, they found a bench overlooking the tranquil lake, their hearts brimming with happiness. "I sometimes feel like I don't belong," Lila confessed, her voice barely a whisper in the fading light. "Like there's a boundary I can't cross." Astra took her hand, squeezing it gently. "We all have boundaries, Lila. But love knows no bounds. We are not so different after all." As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting warm hues across the sky, they held hands and watched the world transform before them. In that moment, they discovered a love transcending worlds, their hearts full of hope for a future where love would always triumph. As they sat on the park bench, Lila and Astra couldn't help but feel an inexplicable connection. The setting sun cast a warm glow over Evershade Park as they shared their stories of love, loss, and self-discovery. Astra spoke of her time among the stars, while Lila recounted her experiences with Earthly flora and fauna. They laughed at their shared quirks and cultural differences, finding comfort in their common desire to be accepted. "You know," Lila began, her voice soft as she gazed into Astra's mesmerizing eyes, "I've always felt like I didn't belong here, on this planet. But with you... it feels different." Astra smiled, her lips curling upwards in a warm, genuine grin. "And I have always felt so alone among the stars. But now, with you... I feel as if I've finally found my home." They leaned closer together, their hands still interlocked, and shared a tender, passionate kiss that seemed to light up the entire park. In that moment, they realized that love could transcend even the boundaries of their vastly different worlds. And with newfound hope in their hearts, they knew that their love story would write itself in the stars above Evershade, illuminating a future where love and acceptance had no limits. Lila's eyes widened as she read the mysterious note, her heart racing with anticipation. The park was filled with vibrant colors and sounds, but her mind was focused on the message she held in her hands. She followed the directions, her breath catching in her throat as she approached the bench overlooking the lake. The sight before her was unlike anything she had ever seen – a celestial being named Astra, with glittering stars instead of hair and eyes that seemed to hold the night sky itself. Lila's initial shock gave way to curiosity, and she took a cautious step towards Astra. "Hello?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Astra looked up, their expression softening at the sound of her voice. "You read the note," they said, a hint of wonder in their voice. Lila nodded, still unable to find words. Astra gestured to the bench beside them, and Lila sat down, feeling as though she had stepped into another world. They spent the day wandering through Evershade Park, their laughter echoing through the trees as they shared stories of their lives. As evening approached, they sat once more on the bench, watching the sun set over the lake. "I sometimes feel like I don't belong," Lila confessed, her voice small and hesitant. Astra turned to face her, their eyes reflecting the last rays of sunlight. "We all feel that way sometimes, especially when we're different from those around us." They held her hand, their touch warm and comforting, like a promise of something more. "But maybe," Astra continued, "love can help us find our place in this world, no matter where we come from." Lila, a florist with a green thumb and a heart full of love, often felt lonely in her small town of Evershade. The town was charming but quiet, with its cobblestone streets and quaint little shops. But one day, something extraordinary happened – she found a mysterious note tucked inside a bouquet of roses. Intrigued, Lila followed the clues on the note, which led her to Astra, a celestial being who had come to Earth in search of love. As they spent time together, exploring Evershade and sharing stories of their pasts, Lila and Astra discovered that they were both searching for something more than just friendship. They found solace in each other's company, and as the days went by, their bond grew stronger. But one day, when they sat under a tree in Evershade Park, Astra revealed the truth: she wasn't a long-lost family member but an extraterrestrial being. The revelation shook Lila to her core, and she felt lost, unsure of what to do next. But Astra's sincere love for her and their shared experiences in Evershade made it impossible for Lila to turn away. They decided to take a leap of faith and continue nurturing their love despite the boundaries that separated them. Together, they showed the people of Evershade that love knows no bounds, and they fought for acceptance in a world that often didn't understand their bond. Through their unwavering love and dedication to each other, Lila and Astra built a life together in Evershade, proving that even when faced with the impossible, true love can conquer all. Lila and Astra stood at the edge of Evershade Park, hand in hand, as they watched the sun set over the lake. The sky was ablaze with colors, reflecting on the still water below. They had spent the day wandering through the park, sharing stories and laughter that echoed throughout the peaceful haven. It was a day unlike any other they had experienced before. "I never thought I would find someone who understands me so well," Astra whispered, her voice barely audible above the rustling leaves. "And yet, here we are." Lila looked at Astra with a mixture of wonder and admiration. "We might be from different worlds, but our hearts beat for the same reason – love." She paused, considering their situation. "But what does the future hold for us?" Astra's eyes shimmered in the fading light. "I don't know, Lila. But I believe that as long as we have each other, we can face whatever challenges come our way." With a gentle smile, Lila agreed. "You're right. Let's take every moment together and make it count." As the sun dipped below the horizon, they continued to talk about their dreams, hopes, and fears. Their connection grew stronger with each passing moment. And as they stood there, hand in hand, they knew that love had no boundaries – not even those of different worlds. Lila had always been captivated by the beauty of nature, which was why she chose to become a florist. Her small but cozy flower shop, "Blossoms of Evershade," was nestled in the heart of their quaint town. One day, while arranging flowers for an upcoming event, Lila found a mysterious note tucked into one of her shipments of exotic blooms. The note read: "When you find the stars above, your destiny awaits." Intrigued, she decided to investigate. Lila followed the directions on the note and found herself in Evershade Park, a place she had never visited before. As she strolled through the park, she noticed a figure sitting on a bench by the lake. Her heart skipped a beat as she recognized the figure as Astra, a celestial being who was believed to be her long-lost family member. "Hello," Lila said hesitantly, approaching Astra. "I saw your note and decided to follow it. Is there something you need help with?" Astra smiled warmly at Lila's words, revealing a set of sharp teeth that betrayed her extraterrestrial origins. "Actually, I was admiring the beauty of this park when I noticed you walking in. We seem to have crossed paths for a reason." As they continued their conversation, Lila and Astra discovered that their connection went beyond family ties. They shared stories about their lives and laughed at each other's jokes, as the sun began to set over the lake. The two sat side by side on the bench, their hands gently touching, as they watched the sky transform into a canvas of brilliant colors. "We may come from different worlds," Lila whispered, "but it feels like we belong together." Astra nodded in agreement, and the two shared a passionate embrace, solidifying the love that had blossomed between them despite their differences. Together, they would face the challenges of their newfound relationship, striving to break down barriers and build a future where love could conquer all. Lila and Astra found solace in each other's company as they continued to explore the mysterious world of love and acceptance that surrounded them. They would often spend their days discussing the complexities of human emotions and the intricacies of Astra's celestial knowledge, learning from one another and growing closer with each passing day. One evening, while sitting on a hill overlooking Evershade, they shared their deepest fears and aspirations. Astra confessed that she had always longed for a place to call home, while Lila admitted her desire to break free from the constraints of her ordinary life. Their hearts swelled with newfound understanding and empathy as they vowed to help each other find their places in this world. As the days turned into weeks, their bond only grew stronger. They would often steal away to Evershade Park, where they would share laughter and secrets beneath the shimmering night sky. It was during one of these late-night rendezvous that Astra revealed a hidden truth. Her family had been searching for her all those years, but she was not who Lila thought she was - Astra was an extraterrestrial being, sent to observe and learn from humanity, not the long-lost relative she believed her to be. This revelation sent shockwaves through their relationship, leaving them questioning everything they had come to understand about each other. However, as they sat together on that same park bench, gazing at the now familiar night sky, they realized that love transcended boundaries and limitations. Together, they embarked on a new journey, one where love and acceptance would guide their path through an ever-changing universe. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow across Evershade Park, Lila and Astra continued their conversation. They sat side by side on a park bench, the soft whispers of the wind rustling through the leaves around them. "I always felt like I didn't belong," Lila confessed, her voice barely audible over the gentle lapping of the water below. "But being with you has made me realize that it's not where we come from that defines us, but who we choose to be." Astra gazed at her, his eyes sparkling like stars in the fading light. "I feel the same way," he admitted, taking her hand in his. "But together, we can make a difference. We can show our small town and the world that love knows no bounds, and that acceptance is the key to true happiness." Lila smiled softly, feeling an overwhelming sense of warmth and belonging. She knew that, despite their differences, she and Astra were meant for each other. As they sat there, hand in hand, they felt a connection that transcended time and space, one that would forever change the course of their lives. With newfound hope and determination, Lila and Astra stood up from the bench and walked toward the park exit. They knew they had a long journey ahead of them, but together, they were ready to face whatever challenges lay in their path. As they stepped out into the night, hand in hand, they took a deep breath and looked up at the stars, knowing that they would never be alone again. As they sat by the lake, Astra told Lila about her origins as an extraterrestrial being who had been sent to Earth in search of a new home. She spoke with such awe and wonder that Lila couldn't help but be drawn to her. They continued walking through Evershade Park, talking about their dreams and aspirations. Lila shared her love for creating beautiful floral arrangements, while Astra expressed her desire to learn more about Earth's diverse ecosystems. As they spoke, Lila noticed how Astra seemed to have a unique connection with the plants around them, as if she could communicate with them in some way. She couldn't help but feel that Astra was not from this world after all. As evening approached, Astra shared her story about how she had been sent to Earth by mistake and was desperately trying to find her way back home. Lila listened intently, her heart swelling with empathy for the lost celestial being. She knew she couldn't let Astra face this journey alone, so she offered to help her in any way possible. "You're not alone anymore," Lila whispered softly as they gazed at the setting sun together. "Together, we can find a way back to your family, or maybe even create a new home for you here on Earth." Astra looked into Lila's eyes and nodded, gratitude shining through her alien features. With newfound hope, the two continued their journey through Evershade Park, their hearts filled with love and determination. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting warm hues across the sky as they held hands, knowing that they had found a connection stronger than any barrier between worlds. In the quaint town of Evershade, where the ordinary met the extraordinary, Lila found solace in her work as a florist. Her shop, blooming with vibrant flowers and lush greenery, was the talk of the town. Yet, there was something missing - a connection that transcended the boundaries of her mundane existence. One day, while arranging roses in her storefront window, she discovered an enigmatic note tucked between the petals. It read: "Follow the light to Evershade Park and find your destiny." Intrigued, Lila ventured to the park that evening. As twilight descended, a figure emerged from the shadows - Astra, a celestial being with an ethereal beauty that captivated her. "Hello," Lila whispered, her heart pounding in her chest. "Greetings, Lila," Astra replied, her voice like whispers on the wind. "I've been waiting to meet you." Together, they wandered through Evershade Park, their laughter echoing through the trees. They shared stories of their lives, dreams, and fears, finding solace in each other's company. As the sun dipped below the horizon, they sat on a bench overlooking the tranquil lake. "Sometimes I feel like I don't belong," Lila confided, her eyes meeting Astra's. Astra nodded, her hand reaching out to squeeze Lila's. "I know that feeling all too well." The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the lake. Their hands remained entwined as they watched the sky change colors, their hearts swelling with hope for a future where love would always triumph, regardless of the boundaries they crossed. Lila's eyes widened as she read the mysterious note that had arrived in her flower shop, addressed just to her. It led her to Evershade Park, where she met Astra, a celestial being who seemed to have appeared from another world. Their conversation flowed easily, their shared experiences of feeling like outsiders in their small town connecting them instantly. Lila: "I've always felt like I don't belong here, like there's something missing." Astra: "I know the feeling. In my world, we call it 'the cosmic itch.' It drives us to explore new places and experiences." As they wandered through the park, their laughter echoed around them, and people began to take notice of this unlikely duo. They found a bench overlooking the lake and shared stories about their lives, their hearts opening up to each other. As the sun set, they held hands, gazing at the sky filled with stars, their love for each other transcending the boundaries of their worlds. Astra: "In my world, we have a saying: 'Love is the cosmic glue that binds us all.' We're not so different after all." As Lila and Astra continued their conversation, they realized that their differences were not insurmountable obstacles but rather unique qualities that made their love story all the more special. The sun began to set, casting a warm glow over Evershade Park as they shared stories of their lives, dreams, and fears. Astra spoke candidly about her time spent wandering the stars, while Lila confessed her longing for a sense of belonging she had never quite found in her small town. They laughed together at shared experiences and cried at the memories that brought them pain. As night fell, they sat side by side on a bench overlooking the now-moonlit lake, their fingers intertwined. "I've always felt like I didn't belong," Astra admitted softly, her voice barely a whisper in the cool evening air. "But with you, Lila, I feel as though I've finally found my place." Lila looked over at Astra, her heart swelling with love and understanding. "And I feel that way too," she replied. "With you, I finally feel like I belong." As they gazed into each other's eyes, it became clear that their love transcended the boundaries of their worlds and defied all expectations. In each other, they had found a connection so powerful that nothing could stand in its way. And with that realization, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, hand in hand, their love guiding them through even the darkest moments.

Old Lystra Inn Wedding Venue Chapel Hill | Emerald & Earth-tone
~ Elope NC and Green Wedding Guild Styled Shoot at Old Lystra Inn in Chapel Hill, NC ~
This past April I participated in a styled shoot challenge sponsored by Elope NC and Green Wedding Guild. Where 6 teams worked to plan and create a sustainable elopement using the following guidelines.
Flowers must be sourced locally and seasonally, and no floral foam may be used.
No “new” items may be purchased for this shoot. Decor may be rented, borrowed, or thrifted.
Attire & accessories may be pre-loved, from a rental company, or from a sustainable designer.
Food (if used) should be seasonally & locally inspired.
Stationery (if used) should contain recycled content, be sourced from sustainably managed forests, or in some other way promote sustainability (eg: seed paper, bamboo paper, etc.).
My team’s theme was emerald and earth-tone brunch with design elements inspired by antique Edwardian vibes since Old Lystra Inn was originally built circa 1890.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Venue
I had never been to Old Lystra Inn, so I was in for a nice surprise. It’s located in Chapel Hill, only a 10 minute drive from downtown, but driving there I really felt like I was going home to the Appalachian mountains. It was a beautiful scenic drive, and I really felt like I was out in the country.
The inn itself is gorgeous as well. Despite being originally built around 1890, it has been completely renovated, but not in a way that takes away from the historic character. It was originally built around 1890 as the Windy Oaks Inn, then later became the home of Paul Green, the Pulitzer prize winning playwright, and is currently known as Old Lystra Inn.
Tumblr media
Getting Ready
Since it’s an inn there are a lot of options for where couples can choose to get ready. The bride got ready in a room along the eastern side of the inn, with this amazing antique wardrobe I utilized to get some photos of the dress. While the groom got ready on the upper level.
Speaking of the dress, we worked with Beautiful and Borrowed Bridal to rent this amazing dress. They have a great selection of gowns for all sizes, and are a sustainable and affordable way to get the gown of your dreams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The groom wore a gray suit, subtly incorporating emerald through his pocket square.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the theme was emerald, we obviously had to have some emerald jewelry. There was an emerald and silver wedding band with leaf detailing, an emerald and diamond engagement ring, and a green onyx and gold signet ring for the groom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ceremony
The ceremony took place in the back garden with the forest as a backdrop. Our florist, Shannon from Élan House, created this arch from dyed pampas grass in a myriad of green and teal hues.
"I wanted to create something out of the ordinary, using minimal blooms that could be used repeatedly. I played off the color choice of Emerald, which signifies balance and harmony. " - Shannon (Élan House)

Featuring live painting by Annie at Stroke of Whimsy. I am always astounded by live painters and their skill, but I think Annie in particular was amazing. She does such a great job at capturing movement and emotion.
See the final image on her site here.

Reception
The reception area was set up in a tent next to the venue with a sweetheart table, and guest table. Both tables repurposed decor from the ceremony, using the bouquet as a centerpiece for the guest table, and pampas grass decor at the sweetheart table. The  emerald china, wooden candlestick holders, earth toned depression glass goblets, and other decor
came from Southern Vintage Table in Hillsborough, NC. They have a huge selection of vintage/antique decor and accessories, and its really fun to browse their shop.
"This aesthetic started with the emerald jewel-tones complemented with earth-tones like browns, but the brunch theme was the star here. I really enjoyed featuring brunch treats, not only the food, but as an edible centerpiece. The small treats were pretty and on a variety of stands, with green fruits spread on the table beneath, so nearly every part of the table design was rented or edible. The decor from the ceremony was repurposed for the sweetheart table design, and we wanted to show that elopements can be beautiful without being extravagant." -Stephanie (Beauty & the Budget)

Portraits
On the other end of the venue, behind the log cabin, there is a vast forest with a fallen mossy log that is the perfect secluded spot for some quiet time with your partner. This would be a great place for a first look or a private vow exchange. It almost feels like you’ve taken a portal into a fairy tale land. If you’re not engaged it may be a good place to look for your Fae king 🙃

“Can you please just tell me where we’re going? Please!” You ask once again. Ayato only laughs and continues to guide you.
“Patience, my darling.” He says softly, holding your hand to lead you down a hill. “We’re almost there. I promise.”
It all started when Ayato came out, asking if you wanted to go somewhere with him. When you asked where though, he responded with “it’s a surprise”.
That’s what led you to here. Being led by your lover in what seemed to be a forest, eyes completely covered.
After a few more minutes of walking blinded, Ayato finally stops you. “Alright, we have arrived. Are you ready?”
You nod your head and Ayato removes his hands. Looking out, you see an array of some flowers that no one has seen for so long. There were ones from Sumeru and Mondstadt. So many local specialties that would all take months to import.
“Oh my- Ayato, how long did this take you?!” You asked, bending down to admire the Cecilias next to you.
“It wasn’t easy.” He admitted, kneeling next to you. “Finding this spot, getting the flowers, other arrangements. But..”
He brought a finger to your chin, lifting your head to look at the sky. Up above, the trees cleared way to show the beautiful night sky. Stars aligned all over while casting a powerful glow onto the flowers.
You couldn’t help but smile as you stood to look at the scene better. Your eyes gleamed against the shine of the stars, a scene Ayato found so attractive. It was all so beautiful. And your chest continued to warm at how much thought Ayato put into this beautiful moment.
He truly was one of a kind.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.” You whispered, not realizing your lover was still kneeled down.
Ayato smiled up at you. “There is, one more surprise for you, my love.” He spoke. He took your hand, turning you to face him.
Looking at the man below you, you see a new look gleam in his eyes. “[Name], I know being with me isn’t the easiest task, with my enemies and daily affairs and work loads, but I’m forever grateful you gave me a chance. I love you so dearly. As for your surprise..”
His hand slowly reaches to his back pocket, carefully pulling out a small blue box. Your eyes widened when he opened the box, revealing a gorgeous ring.
“I don’t want you to feel pressured by this decision. We won’t be in any rush to get married. We’ll do stuff on our own time. Everything will be for us. [Name], my darling, will you marry me?”
An overwhelming feeling of happiness overtook you. You will never forget the smile Ayato provided, the reassurance he gave in this moment. He was everything you could want and more.
“I will most definitely marry you.” You tell him, your hands moving to cup his face.
His eyes show shock for a moment, before they show adoration. He stands in front of you, and pulls you in to gently kiss you.
The whole scene seemed like it was out of a movie. Kissing under the stars as an engaged couple, surrounded by gorgeous flowers. The two of you holding one another close, afraid to even try and let go.
“[Name] Kamisato.. I love the sound of that.” Ayato whispered after the two of you parted. You give him a laugh in return.
“It is a little catchy.”
Ayato takes the ring from it’s box, carefully sliding it on your finger. It flowed beautifully in the moonlight. Neither of you could stop smiling. It seemed like an euphoric dream.
And it was happening. The two of you were gonna get married. A lasting bond of eternity, as if you already promised each other that.

bouquet
Summary: Whenever Ena goes to paint at the top of the hill, she carries with her a bouquet that holds no meaning.
Fandom: Project Sekai Colourful Stage Characters: Shinonome Ena, Akiyama Mizuki Relationships: Akiyama Mizuki & Shinonome Ena Rating: G Word Count: 1412 Mirror Link: AO3 Original Post Date: 25/06/2022
Notes: A fic I wrote for mzen week 2022 Day 1: Charles. I went with the prompt "I walk with a bouquet that means nothing.
This is a sequel to a fic I wrote previously called Woodland Magic but you don't really need to read that to read this. Just know this is an AU where Mizuki is a fairy (with their fairy outfit from the picnic gacha), and Ena and Mizuki met when they were young but Ena no longer remembers that. Yeah.
~~~
"Do you have the flowers?" Ena asked, impatiently tapping her foot against the grass as she reached out a hand towards her brother, beckoning. Her other arm was wrapped around an easel, hugging it close to her side. The palette and the paints that she would need for the afternoon were slotted into her hand, dangling dangerously and at risk of falling at any moment. Behind her was a gentle hill, rising for some time before petering off, the beginnings of the forest that bordered the town seated at the top. Numerous trees, reaching for the skies like outstretched fingers.
"Here, here," Akito grumbled, pulling out the requested flowers from behind his back - daisies, camellias, sunflowers. Colour, all wrapped neatly within a thin white piece of paper, their sweetness suffusing the air and capable of bringing a smile to anyone’s face. Despite his rough tone, he passed over the bouquet with the utmost care, the both of them ensuring that none of the flowers got crumpled in the exchange. After all, it would be a shame to see Kohane's hard work go to waste, even if she had never personally met the sweet florist who lived in the capital.
"Still don't know why you need all this when you're just going up there to paint," he muttered, stepping back, his sword glinting under the morning sun, the various chains of the royal knight’s livery he wore swaying with the motion. "It's a pain to carry that all the way from the capital."
"It's just habit. Calms the mind and helps you focus. Isn’t that right, Ena?" Kanade smiled, her hands clasped before her, stained with ink from all the time spent crafting music on sheet paper in a dim room, dozens of crumpled sheets strewn everywhere. Just as her own hands were covered in flecks of paint, from the hours spent desperately attempting to capture that which always slipped away.
"...yeah." She cast her gaze away, taking one step up the hill towards her destination, the morning dew still clinging to the blades of grass wetting her ankles. Turning back to give one final glance at her brother and her closest friend, she yelled with a grin, "See you later, Akito! Don't be late for dinner! Mom wants to hear all about that prince of yours."
"Shouldn't I be the one telling you that?" Akito shot back, cheeks flushing as he ignored the rest of her words with a scowl. “Don’t get lost painting up there!”
Snorting to herself, she shook her head, and continued up the hill, the bouquet cradled close to her chest.
~~~
"All done." With her hands on her waist, she stepped back from the easel she’d just set up, satisfied that it wouldn't collapse. The palette had already been placed on its tray, watercolour paints squeezed out, creating various pools of different shades of pink that glimmered under the sun.
Everything was ready for her to pick up her brush and start layering paint on blank white, flooding it with colour and crafting a world one could step into. But before that, there was still something she needed to do.
Habit, as Kanade had said.
Heaving a breath, she fetched the bouquet she’d left propped up against a tree trunk and stalked towards the edge of the forest, kneeling to stare into its depths, uncaring of the mud that would smear across her dress. Weak sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, barely illuminating the dirt that formed paths winding between the trees, disappearing into the darkness. It would be easy to take a step inside and explore the vast labyrinth formed by branches and roots, snaking every which way, but she couldn’t even get herself to extend a finger past the imaginary barrier that her mind had drawn in the dirt, something in her heart holding her back.
The forest had retreated a great distance over the years, occupying a much smaller space than it had when she’d been but a foolish child who had wandered into its massive depths and found herself hopelessly lost. The results of logging and disease, creeping up from the roots of unknowing trees, their life of solitude put to an end when their weakened bases gave out, the trunks crashing to the grass and sending flocks of birds bursting into the air.
It saddened her, knowing it would all soon disappear. Taking with it all the life within - the mice that snuck around in the undergrowth, the birds that hopped about on bushes, the squirrels that jumped from tree to tree.
And ensuring the legend of the fairies would fade into obscurity one day soon, for there would no longer be a place to sustain its bountiful magic.
“Why, huh?” she whispered, setting the bouquet down and blinking away the split second of pink she thought she’d caught at the edge of her vision. “I wonder myself…”
Every time she came here, she carried with her a bouquet that held no meaning. A gift, but for whom? The forest? That was what she always told her family and her friends, whenever they asked after the flowers gripped tight in her hands, as precious to her as her art materials.
To express gratitude to the place that had always gifted her with inspiration, motivating her to paint freely.
That was her excuse.
Because in truth, she didn’t know why either, the true meaning evading her no matter how extensively she searched her heart. Perhaps it was for the fairy that had haunted her dreams for as long as she could remember, and likely would for the rest of her life. Slipping from tree to tree as she made chase, fingers reaching just close enough to brush against the glitter of their pink, shimmering wings - before the morning sunlight snapped her awake, hand still outstretched to grasp empty air, hot tears rolling down her face.
Nothing more than a ghost that refused to be found, yet would not leave her alone.
The entire notion was silly. Akito would surely make fun of her if he knew, telling her that she was wasting her time, bringing flowers for nobody. But the bouquet was always gone when next she came. Likely from wild animals tearing everything to shreds until nothing was left, but some part of her still wanted to believe. Believe that magic was real, that miracles could happen, just as one had when she had found her way out of this very forest years ago. Believe that the fairy at the edge of her memories was nearby, ready to extend her a warm hand and pull her close.
She chuckled to herself as she trailed a finger across the white wildflowers, scattered across the dirt like an invitation, just for her. Picking them up, she threw them onto her hair, where they sat like snowflakes.
In the end, maybe there really was no meaning. Not one known to her, at least. And that was alright, for it made her happy to place them here. That was all that mattered in the end.
~~~
Mizuki watched from the safety of the forest, perched on a branch as they swung their legs back and forth. From this vantage point, they had a lovely view of Ena, patiently running her paintbrush across the canvas and breathing life into it. Painting a fairy that sat on a tree stump under the moonlight, head angled towards the sky, back facing the audience. Wings radiantly aglow, so different from their own, now dull and almost grey. That was what she always painted. A lonely, beautiful fairy.
Later, once she was gone, they would slip down to the dirt and grasp the bouquet, as was their routine. They would unravel the paper and brush their fingertips across the petals - soft, beautiful, and brittle, capable of crumbling if they simply pressed too hard.
They would hold the flowers close to their chest, and bury their nose in them, breathing in their sweet scent with a soft smile on their face, tears slipping from their eyes. Even though Ena didn’t remember them anymore, and hadn’t for a long, long time, she still thought to bring flowers every single time she came.
Something to connect them, even in the absence of memory.
To receive flowers that warmed their heart… It was a wonderful feeling, amongst the sadness of their home melting away.
That was the meaning of the bouquet.
And it meant everything to them.
thinking about tomios living conditions.. i tihnk they would be pretty similar to inuyash/a where they lived in the shrine / on the grounds ...  (on a smaller scale ofc) v
Tumblr media
its also at the top of a hill ofc too.. the stairs kind of lead up like
Tumblr media
probably with higher trees/feels more like a forest. he does live out in a rural town after all.. he fixed up the stairs over the years to let people come up because the whole place was definitely abandoned/not taken care of when he arrived years ago..
the courtyard is just huge pots together with plants for smaller spirits but also flowers and stuff hes growing for the sake of it /townspeople asked him nicely since hes basically running the florist on the side ...
the atmosphere is oddly very peaceful but if you get onto the grounds where its more forest than space then the air VERY quickly turns sour. there is definitely something hanging out there but its not showing itself
