Hello!

If you're not too busy, would you mind listing some of the things you think count as death flags for Mr. Spender?

There's the obvious fact that he's the "old" mentor to group of young protagonists, but what else do you think would count?

OHH BOY ok so I'd think I'm a crackpot for this but since we're talking about Zack "Foreshadowing" Morrison. I have some thoughts

No harm in leading with the (chronologically) first thing that jumped out at me:

This one IMMEDIATELY made me antsy whenever I came back to it after my initial read, and considering Zack has referred to it on twitter in the past as one of their favorite jokes it's definitely not been forgotten about.

Second, the sheer amounts of near-misses, jokey or not, of Spender narrowly avoiding specifically lightning

Again, not much, but it's weird that it happened thrice, latter two of which had real gravitas rather than an one-off joke.

And third, Spender himself. He's repeatedly shown himself to be kind of a self sacrificing idiot, as well as prideful to a fault. Granted, it's both him and Mina trying to take on all the responsibility of saving Mayview and its inhabitants from their fate.. But Spender is exactly that right measure of doesn't-value-himself-enough (chest footprint aftercare or lack thereof), having an obscene amount of power (enables his loner act + pride) and poor judgement that has the capacity to put him at great risk. And it has!

Spender has not only shown low enough self-esteem to view himself as the de-facto scapegoat for the safety of the town, but also prideful enough to make very bad calls that end up in people, often himself, hurt (COUGH FORGE INCIDENT COUGH)

This is all conjecture, but it's definitely enough to make me worried about him :') Even if all this doesn't mean he'll necessarily die he's definitely getting (even more) seriously injured at some point. I love the guy but he's so far doing a horrible job of convincing me he wants to live bad enough to circumvent at least that

CHILDHOOD CANON PLSPLSPLS ik childhood revalink isn't very popular but i am DESPARATE for that content 😭✋

more people should write revalink as little babies since we get like two sentences from mipha about what link was like as a toddler and pretty much nothing but inferences on revali's childhood based on how he acts. revalink community, i'm calling forth upon you to write more baby revalink ☝️👁️

i've talked a little bit here and there about my headcanons on both of revalink's childhoods, so i'm not gonna try to reiterate those here 😭 but i'll do a couple more little bullet-point hcs teehee

i just know link was a menace for his mother to deal with when he was growing up. climbing on trees, the houses, disappearing to climb the fucking mountains, just a little rabid animal for a child

once, he was hiding in the wheat fields or maybe pretended to be a scarecrow, and then he jumpscared one of the farmers, who nearly died from a heart attack 😭

link probably once tried to climb up to the spring of wisdom by himself to catch a glimpse of the great dragon naydra, only to pass out in the cold snow. something warm and blue takes him back home, and when link wakes he's at home in bed, like he never left. but he remembers seeing a bright gold eye in his dreams...

i bet you part of the reason why revali was so obsessed with perfecting his gale and being able to fly properly was because he couldn't even fucking glide as a kid. his little baby wings just couldn't catch the updrafts and he was left behind during flying lessons. completely stacked his resolve to be the only rito who could properly fly

rito village treated revali naruto-style. the elders and adults pity him for having lost his parents in such a tragic way, but the kids and teens tended to bully or ostracize revali for not having any parents. yeah.

sorry for only sad baby revali hcs omg ok the elder takes revali to the hebra plunge with him and the hunting squadron to catch fish for an upcoming festival and this is where revali learns to hunt fish for the first time! when he catches his first hearty salmon, he's so excited, and the elder and members of the hunt who watched are very proud of him! it's a huge fish, and they let him keep it and help him make his very first salmon meunière 🥺🤍 bb vali eats very well that night

baby revali stumbling upon the pocket of updrafts at dronoc's pass for the first time after getting left behind, and teaching himself how to glide there 🫣 it's difficult at first because he has no one to teach him how it's supposed to be done, but he gets a hang of it pretty quick after a while. i just know his dumbass kept falling into the water though LMAO but it's his special secret spot that he shares with No One else! and ofc when revali's older and has bested everyone with his superior archery skills, he has the flight range built there 😌

just because you can sometimes purposefully pretend that bad writing is just due to characters acting a certain way--

(IE: "This mixup of the holiday dates is clearly the author's fault for not paying attention to their own worldbuilding, which isn't even complicated, and she literally just had them correct not even twenty pages ago, but for the sake of my sanity I'm going to pretend this character is just lying to be an asshole")

--does not mean that bad writing is always "the character's fault". And the above "for the sake of my sanity I'm going to pretend this is the character's fault" is for your sake only. It's not to be brought up to defend the writing itself, which you know is filled with inconsistencies and wouldn't know the meaning of "continuity" if it bit them on the nose.

If someone is specifically asking for in-universe explanations for the glaring and painfully obvious continuity errors, then you should feel free to offer all the convoluted explanations you've come up with.

but these are not a substitute for actually acknowledging that the author has made mistakes and there are in fact a ton of continuity errors in the text, not because "it's the character's fault", but because the author wasn't paying attention or didn't understand what they were saying, or just straight up doesn't give enough shits about their own setting to bother with silly things like not screwing up timelines in ways that make no sense. (*cough* Jaxom *cough)

You can come up with in-universe explanations for the continuity errors.

But you shouldn't let those get in the way of admitting "Yes, the continuity errors exist because the author wasn't paying attention/doesn't understand what they're saying/doesn't take their own story seriously/has a problem with making all the protagonists Mary Sues/Ect.".

Here is a drawing I did of Rocket, Lylla, Teefs and Floor as humans. My idea is that, in this universe, they were all super soldiers who were part of a secret program ran by the High Evolutionary to enhance humanity with cybernetic implants and make them the "superior" race. They were all children who were abducted from their homes and experimented on, given superhuman abilities, reflexes and intelligence beyond human capability. Rocket, Lylla, Teefs and Floor escaped the program and become a military unit. These drawings are my headcanon of how these characters would look if they were human.
