Note
hi!! i was wondering if you could do adult! gn reader that got transported to teyvat with verlaine? i love your works!
If you were not alone
Part XII
Characters: Self-Aware! Paul Verlaine
Reader: GN! Adult! Reader
Warning: OOC. English is my second language. Some violence.
🇫🇷 You and Paul were on a walk, when that happened. One moment, you two were in a park. Next moment you were laying on the ground. You were dizzy, the world was spinning before your eyes. Verlaine was luckier than you. At least, he was standing. And, perhaps, he didn't get a headache, or, at least, was better at keeping himself together. He was holding good enough to walked to you and effortlessly pick you up and put you back on your feet.
A few minutes later, the world stopped having a rolling party, and you finally managed to look around. You looked at grass, at trees, at water and at familiar giant blue blocks of Fontaine Research Institute.
You felt Paul's hand squeezing your shoulder.
"[Y/N], since when your..." Paul noticed the side glance you gave him and corrected himself. "Our world's technology became that advance to have an antigravity?"
Your chuckle was bitter.
"We aren't home."
🇫🇷 You took your time to explain To Paul what Teyvat (and Fontaine) are. During your explanation, Paul nodded from time or hummed, showing, that he understands. However, when you tried to share the Idea of Genshin Impact Characters also being self-aware, Verlaine shook his head in disagreement.
Apparently, BSD Cast, before transportation, monitored every last of your apps. To find more about Real World, to take care of you. And to investigate, if someone else has become self-aware.
There was nothing wrong with Genshin wrong. It was just a game.
"I admit, it is possible, that we overlooked something, and they were self-aware all this time. Nevertheless, let's be careful. We don't know, how they will react to us."
With that in mind, you two start moving, using Callas Line as a "waymark" to Court of Fontaine.
You run into Fatui Operatives, tho... For some reason, they insisted on getting into a fight.
At least, now you have mora and operatives will be on a sick leave.
🇫🇷 Plan was simple.
Get to city - Go to the Adventurers' Guild - Ask Katheryne about Traveler's whereabouts (or Alice's)
You two get into the city (with some difficulty). Entrance from institute's direction was a bit hard to reach. And, as Paul pointed out, if he uses his ability to get to the aquabus station, you will get unwanted attention.
It's not like you didn't get it.
The atmosphere in a capital was... strange.
People were staring at you. Their eyes were full of confusion. You heard a whispered "Aren't their Holiness were with Monsieur Neuvillette today?"
"Holiness"? Is there a religion in Teyvat Hoyo still haven't dropped a lore about?
Melusines were looking at you with a mix of disbelief and hope. You overheard Muirne whispering "They are the real one. Who else would be traveling with a living embodiment of a storm". (You sneak a glance at Paul after that words, but, he either didn't hear her, didn't care about her words or did a good job hiding his emotions).
It was hard to navigate through Fontaine. You decided to go to Palais Mermonia and take the elevator here.
You reached Palais Mermonia.
And came face to face with your own doppelgänger and Neuvillette.
Your double... The moment they looked at you, they started to look sick. And you weren't talking about "pale, stuffed nose, have a fever" kind of sick. They looked at you with outright predatory gaze. They were trembling. The white of their eyes looked yellowish.
For some reason, you thought about withdrawal.
Paul grabbed your shoulder and pull you behind him. The emotions in his dark-brown-eyes were... You might call it "time-to-pray-so-Monsieur-Paul-Verlaine-hopefully-will-forget-that-we-exist."
The silence can be cut with a knife.
Your double point their finger at you. Their voice rang in the air.
"Preposterous! Dirty Sinner, how dare you impersonate my Holy Looks. Get them! Lay their body before my feet..."
The sickening crunch cut their speech short. With animalistic howl, your double fall on the ground.
You felt sick, trying not to look at what happened to their legs.
A bloodied mora coin, still under the influence of Paul's ability, hit the wall of Palais Mermonia, sticking deep inside, making a huge crack.
Neuvillette, guards and mekas attacked.
Paul, without looking, grabbed you and threw you on his back. He almost barked.
"Hold on tight!"
The fight begun.
🇫🇷 After the fight (at the end of which half of mekas can be sold for scrap, and Fleuve Cendre got a beautiful skylight, that was snapped like Hydro Archon statue.
While Neuvillette and others retrieve (while taking injured "Creator" with them), you finally reached The Guild.
Katherine, who supposed to be an android doll with a very limited functions and with undying loyalty to Teyvat and Creator, after taking a look at Paul's grin, was not only ready to tell you about Traveler and Alice, but also about the partisans, the smugglers from Snezhnaya, the atheists of Mondstadt, the nihilists of Natlan, the flat, where Pantalone hides his secret stash of mora, Capitano's doll collection and the shop, where Tsaritsa buys scarfs.
After getting all necessary information, you and Paul decided to search for Alice.
🇫🇷 Traveling with Paul Verlaine was like traveling with a portable avalanche/earthquake/volcano eruption/any catastrophic event, that makes people run for their lives. And it wasn't only because of ability, that can turn mountains into flat surface. Paul himself looked imposing and dangerous.
Yes, he was King of Assassins. But, ever since BSD Cast get into the real world, Verlaine was just minding his own business.
He spent time with Rimbaud, helped Flags, if they were in a need of heavy lifting or another pair of hands, talked with Chuuya. He spent time with you, cooked French cuisine, read books. And nothing in his facial expression implied, that he is dangerous.
But, Teyvat and constant danger you were in. That makes him show, how dangerous he truly is.
🇫🇷 The journey was rocky. You would say, that after what happened in Fontaine, people won't dare to attack you. Perhaps, it does decrease the number of attackers. But, there were devoted ones, who were going all and beyond during attacks. They would either try to separate you from Paul, or try to lead a large scale attacks.
For now, they didn't succeed. Nevertheless, Paul was on his guard and insisted on you staying where he can see you.
You weren't against it. It wasn't the situation for arguing.
You got to Sumeru. You got help from Nahida and Wanderer. Apparently, Alice was in Natlan. The nation, that still was hesitant in letting "Creator" stepped on their land. Wanderer even shared some rumors about a barrier around Natlan. Barrier, that keeps Creator away.
Dehya and Candace helped you and Paul cross the desert.
You swore, that you could see a barrier made of Phlogiston around Natlan. You braced yourself and made a step forward.
Barrier let you two through.
🇫🇷 You spend in Natlan a mere five minutes, but Saurian population, for some reason, already adored you. On top of it, baby tepetlisaurs and baby yumkasaurs seems to like Paul and his hat. He scoffed and rolled his eyes, but let them nibble on his fingers and hat.
Paul felt relieved. He didn't show it, but he was extremely worried about you. He was afraid, that one day you will get hurt, or you will wander off and get captured, or you will get sick. Yes, you were an adult, but he still was worried. And having a bunch of cartoony dinosaurs helping to protect you was reassuring.
You get to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame without troubles.
And was met with Pyro Archon herself.
🇫🇷 Mavuika asked you and Paul to join her for dinner. Well, it was a mix of interrogation and dinner. Everything went mostly neutral, until Mavuika decided to press further into your supposed "Real Creator" status. She didn't outright say, that you were lying about not knowing anything about being a Creator and just being a simple person, but Pyro Archon made it clear, that she didn't trust you. And, perhaps, it would be beneficial for Natlan to sell you out to the Holy Guard.
Paul didn't like the implication. The stone table was crushed under his hands. He was towering above Pyro Archon.
"If you dared to lay a finger on them, I will crush your precious little nation."
You grabbed Paul's hand. He looked like he was ready to become a Demonic Beast Guivre, and without Dazai it would be a death sentence. To Teyvat and to Paul.
Mavuika took Paul's threat well. She nodded, gave you a half-bow. She spoke.
"I knew what it means to be a mortal in a position of a God. Forgive me for my small performance. I need to make sure. Your companion has a loyalty of a warrior. I will help you. I will send a letter to Alice. She will be here in a few days. Until then, you are my guests".
🇫🇷 Paul felt relieved. You were almost safe. The Stadium of the Sacred Flame was full of music and warmth, and people weren't here to attack you.
In a few days, you met Alice.
While giving your goodbyes to Mavuika, she suddenly asked.
"I understand, that I have no right to give you two that kind of task. But, if you knew someone who can help us to deal with imposter, could you, please, send them here? People of Teyvat aren't bad. They are scared."
You didn't promise anything. But you kept her request in mind.
Alice prepared a portal. You and Verlaine finally returned home.
_______
🇫🇷 The Return was something. You two were gone for almost two months, making everyone worried sick about you two. The story of Teyvat made everyone angry and curious. Kids wanted to see saurians, adults wanted to help people, who helped you, and punish people, who tried to hurt you.
You and Verlaine were sitting under the starry sky. You whispered.
You secretly also wanted to help Mavuika, Alice, Dehya, Candace, Nahida and Wanderer. They didn't deserve to get in trouble because of you.
________
"Paul... If one day I decide to return to Teyvat and save everyone, will you..."
You didn't get a chance to finish, when Paul turned his head towards you and nuzzle the top of your head.
"I will come. You won't be alone, [Y/N]."

Tell me about your Thunderbolts headcanons, pahleeeeze?
Thanks for the Ask @btwxsixesandsevens ! Sorry for the delay. This was sitting in my Activity tab waiting for me to get back to it and format.
Headcanon - Sarah, Bucky, and The Thunderbolts
I don’t think MCU Bucky and the Thunderbolts will be the same as the Comic gang. How does he gets pulled into the fold of former villains? In my mind, it could begin here.
I have thoughts. Here is the start of one.
* * *
Post-dinner clean-up is done, now Cass and AJ have commandeered the dining room table with homework, and Bucky is on his laptop offering the boys assistance when needed while he’s doing some preliminary research for Sam and Team Cap’s upcoming mission.
Sarah is in the mudroom taking a load of towels out of the dryer when a rapping is heard on the front screen door.
“I’ll get it,” she says softly, gently squeezing Bucky’s shoulder as she walks past him.
He catches her hand and kisses it.
“Alright now,” she giggles.
Stepping up to the door, her smile falters a little seeing a short, very well tailored White woman standing there, tapping something into an impressive cellphone. It’s the latest model with a bunch of camera lenses on it. It’s almost as nice as Bucky’s WakandaTech phone. Almost.
“Hello,” she says, trying not to stare at the streak of purple in the woman’s otherwise black hair. “May I help you?“
Quickly glancing over the tiny woman’s head, she sees a black SUV parked at the end of the walkway, and an also very-well-tailored (and serious-looking) black-suited White man standing next to it.
And there’s another one in the driver’s seat.
The woman looks up from her phone, smiles an overly bright smile that stops at her eyes, and introduces herself to Sarah as “Director Valentina de la Fontaine” as if it was supposed to mean something to her.
“Is Sergeant Barnes in? Sergeant James Barnes.”
The Director looks past Sarah, and on a wall she sees a photo hanging in the middle of a bunch of what looks like family pictures that span several decades.
That center photo, new and in a new frame, particularly catches her eye.
It’s Barnes in a suit and tie, smiling broadly, standing just behind and holding a radiant Black woman in a pretty yellow dress. She’s carrying small a bouquet of yellow and blue flowers. In front of the two of them are two young Black boys also in suits, wearing colorful sneakers, and like the couple, also grinning ear to ear.
The woman in that photo is the tall, frankly stunning Black woman that’s now standing in front of her, and the photo pictured on the fancy cell phone screen identifies her as Sarah Wilson, recently having become “Sarah Wilson-Barnes”, which now makes this Retrieval even more complicated.
Director de la Fontaine has no patience for complications.
***
12 hours later…on a government jet to Langley, Bucky Barnes is not a happy man.

me as Patrice was explaining he could get charged with misappropriating funds if his research doesn’t get results: well, that’s really harsh. I get that they can’t just let any scam artist get research funds, but it must be extremely stifling to real researchers to worry about getting jailed or executed if their research doesn’t pan out. The Hydro Archon seems unnecessarily strict.
me as Patrice starts talking about using his research funds to hire a reporter: .......actually I may be underestimating how hard the Hydro Archon’s job is.

I was doing some geographic research of Paris for my fic and came across their official site for tourists.
They have a whole page dedicated to the show and???? It’s so adorably detailed?? They talk about various locations that were showcased, but also reference specific episodes. Not just season one either—
Tumblr media
A significant moment in the series takes place in Place du Châtelet, at the Fontaine des Victoires (also known as Fontaine du Châtelet and Fontaine des Palmiers). Ladybug kisses Cat Noir in front of this fountain, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to provide free drinking water to all Parisians. It is pillar shaped and adorned with sculpted palm leaves, with four sphinxes at its base. The gilded bronze Victory statue on top holding up a laurel crown in either hand was sculpted by Louis-Simon Boizot.
The original statue is now housed in the Musée Carnavalet – maybe because of the damage Guitar Villain inflicted on the fountain when he played his ‘Shocking Riff’ against Cat Noir?
Fontaine des Victoires – place du Châtelet, Paris 1st
Tumblr media
The Tour Montparnasse inspired an episode as action-packed as any Hollywood thriller. Adrien’s bodyguard, who has been akumatized into Gorizilla, chases Cat Noir and Ladybug to the top of the 210-metre-high tower offering a spectacular 360° view over Paris. The skyscraper was built on the site of the former Montparnasse station and inaugurated in 1973. Its weight rests on 56 reinforced concrete pillars, buried 70 metres underground.
Tour Montparnasse – rue de l’Arrivée, Paris 15th
Tumblr media
Ladybug foils off attacks by three akumas inside the Louvre – Jalil Kubdel, who has transformed into The Pharaoh; The Mime, and Volpina, who creates amazing illusions. The world’s biggest museum was originally a castle built to protect Paris from Norman attacks. Today, it extends over an area of 243,000 m² and displays some 35,000 works. It has 403 rooms, 14.5 km of corridors and 10,000 steps. Stroll around soaking up more than 800 years of history, and do admire the glass and metal pyramid designed by I.M. Pei, where another of Ladybug’s adventures takes place.
Musée du Louvre -Pyramide du Louvre, Paris 1st
Tumblr media
The park near the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery was inspired by the Place des Vosges. In the series, the park has a statue of Ladybug and Chat Noir sculpted by the fictional artist Théo Barbot. The real Place des Vosges – the oldest square in Paris – is in the Marais district. It was built in 1605 on the site of a royal palace, the Palais des Tournelles, and indeed initially named Place Royale. It is surrounded by 36 pavilions, all identical except the king’s own pavilion at the southern end and the queen’s at the northern end, both intentionally higher.
Place des Vosges, Paris 4th
Tumblr media
When she isn’t busy catching evil akumas sent out by Hawk Moth, Marinette likes meeting up with her friends Alya, Adrien and Nino at ‘Troca’, where she also finds inspiration to design her new outfits. Facing the Eiffel Tower across the river, Trocadéro boasts gardens, ponds and some fine buildings. Start on Place du Trocadéro across from the Palais de Chaillot. From here, you will enjoy one of the loveliest vistas of Paris, and a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower.
Le Trocadéro – place du Trocadéro, Paris 16th
Ok, but?? Referencing Nino and Alya too?? Whoever writes/updates the page clearly loves the show. You can read more here.

if i could tell her — todoroki shoto

ೃ in where shoto todoroki is hit by a sudden realization that the love of his life was right in front of him all along and all it takes is for her to cross the crossroads for him to finally realize.
ೃ pairing: todoroki shoto x fem! reader
ೃ  tags: mutual pining, fluff

ೃ  my nav  →  my mha writing masterlist  → my katsuki bakugo x reader smau
ೃ  please do reblog if you enjoyed!! it really helps writers and content creators on tumblr!  if you want to be a part of my mha taglist. send me an ask!  ♡
Tumblr media
Timing is irrelevant when two people are meant for each other.
There will always be a time and place for everything. But, for love? There was no such thing.
You and Shoto Todoroki met during a time when he was still such a mess, when he still had so much to figure out. How could he have known that the love of his life was always with him? How crucial every word, every action was, or how losing you would be something he would always regret? Who would’ve known that your departure from UA in your second year to study in a Heroes Academy in Canada, would be so detrimental?
Yet, here he was, a lovestruck newbie pro-hero who booked a plane ticket on his first week off for the first morning flight enroute to Quebec.
You were going to be his tour guide around the city as per his request made through terribly awkward text message. and it was going to be a date… as friends of course. Nothing more nothing less.
The two of you were set to meet in Fontaine De Tourny. A beautiful fountain park found in front of prestigious parliament buildings in Quebec City. It was said that a famous korean drama was filmed at the exact same place according to Shoto’s own research. If that meant anything, then Shoto was absolutely clueless as to what that may imply.
The morning light was beaming so effervescently, sparrow birds were chirping to their heart’s delight, the autumn trees along with the breeze reflecting a different orange hue that symbolizing the end of something. Something for you and Shoto. It was the end of wistfulness and nostalgia that both of you have grasped in your stained hands. Hands that were stained with meaningful memories that the both of you were never going to forget.
Today was going to be your reunion after so many years of longing and of missed opportunities.
Maybe, something was to blossom out of this meeting? Possibly, a realization concerning both of your feelings or a scientific discovery that all this time there was something there that was just hidden in plain sight. Hidden behind Shoto’s emotional scars or your bright facade. Maybe things were just one-sided all along? unrequited love perhaps? It was getting more unhealthy for Shoto if he kept on thinking about it. All that’s left to do is wait patiently on a bench and read a poetry book (a gift you had given to him before you left) to calm his nerves and to soothe his senses.
Several minutes have passed and he couldn’t stop his impatient eyes from looking for you in the crowd of passersby who were crossing the street and going off in different directions. None of them walked their way to the park, and the only thing Shoto could do was sigh at that thought.
Shoto would do everything to see you again. He’d search for you in crowds, in empty fields, and soaring clouds. In these foreign city lights, and passing cars, on winding roads and wishing stars. Shoto  wonders where you could be now. How long has he waited for his lips to call out your name in a different light and for that day to finally arrive. You were going to show up, that was a given, but the anxiety and anticipation swelling up inside him was just too much for him to take. This was his only chance to try and express his feelings. If he messes this up then… what happens next?
More importantly, what would happen if you don’t return those feelings back?
Tumblr media
“Sho-kun!”
He turns his head from left to right, looking for that honey dulcet voice that just called out for him. Standing up from his seat to get a clearer view of his surroundings… and there, he finally finds you. The girl in between all these blinding lights and high buildings. Wearing a white cotton dress that made you glow like a fairy, with a matching ribbon straw hat to complete the look. You were absolutely ethereal and Shoto could do nothing but stand frozen in place and stare agape at your beauty.
“Sho!” You continue to wave at him, your smile painting a ray of sunshine all over your face, jumping in your place as you skipped your way to cross the street. Unable to contain excitement at the thought of seeing your dear icy-hot friend after all these years.
The stoplight turns green and you grind to a halt. Waiting patiently for the cars to all drive by and for the light to turn red so that you can cross the road and run into Shoto’s arms. Tall autumn trees and dappled light on the city pavement shifting under your feet, skirting the cracks. As if it was waiting for you to take your leap and finally tell him everything you wanted to say.
Shoto continues to watch you hop to each white dashed line on the street like you were playing hopscotch. Your graceful figure taking each step carefully and steadily, as if it was the yellow brick road leading you to Oz. His lips turn upwards into a smile, watching your figure grow closer and closer to him. His hands in his pockets, rummaging for the box containing the crystal necklace that he was planning to give you when he confesses.
The words from the poetry book (that you had given him) rush through his mind and he realizes how fitting it was.
How fitting were these words to the feelings he had for you.
❝ Mass is not proportional to volume.
A girl as pretty as a violet.
A girl drifting in the sky like the petals of a flower draws me to her with a force greater than the one exerted by the earth. In a single moment, I fell and rolled toward her without a rhyme or reason, just as Newton's apple did.
With a thump. With a thump.
My heart bounced from the heavens to the earth in a dizzying pendular motion.
Such was the moment I’d first fallen in love.❞
“(Y/N)... there’s something I’d like to ask you.”

Gay Village!
As you may know, the gay village, located on the east side of downtown Montreal, is home to the majority of the LGBT+ population, making it one of Montreal's and the world's most welcoming neighbourhoods. Although Canada used to be a strongly religious society, views have changed throughout time. As a Colombian, I never imagined myself living in a place such, not because I believe it is wrong, but because this type of neighbourhood would not exist there. It is still a taboo subject in my country.
This neighbourhood has a lot more to offer than you might expect. There are multiple restaurants serving a wide range of cuisines, from local  to international. St Denis Street is known for its restaurants, and it is only a few blocks from my house, which is not ideal for someone who enjoys dining as much as I do. However, there are other places in the area where you can go out at night, including gorgeous terraces in the summer that boost the mood of the people. Nonetheless, lovely parks such as Parc La Fontaine where you can enjoy a delicious BBQ in the summer or go ice skating in the winter.
Restaurants you must try in the area:
La banquise: (Open 24hrs)                                                                         “ Ideal spot for a poutine”                                                                       994 Rue Rachel E, Montréal, QC H2J 2J3                                     http://labanquise.com/
Ma poulle Mouillée :                                                                            “Great portuguese Chicken”                                                                   969 Rachel St E, Montreal, Quebec H2J 2J2                                   http://mapoulemouillee.ca/
Baguette Brochette:                                                                              “Your traditional sandwich in a baguette”                                             3800 Saint Denis St, Montreal, Quebec H2W 2M2                                   https://baguettebrochette.com/

It's been two years since I arrived in Montreal, and so far everything has gone well. I adore the city's multiculturalism; it's something I'm not used to. It's incredible to witness so many diverse cultures converge in one location. It is true that sometimes is difficult to adapt to or accept since we were raised with a different mindset, but being in Montreal has opened my eyes in ways I could never have imagined. I've learned a lot throughout the years, and even more during the difficult months, we all experienced during the pandemic. Living here makes my life less complicated, the metro is closed by, convenience stores are everywhere.
Both tourists and I alike enjoy the area because it is vibrant and full of positive energy. Despite the fact that we are still in the city, the gay village gives the impression of being somewhere else, due to the natural beauty of the parks that surround us.
Tumblr media
I consider myself to be a curious person who enjoys researching and discovering new things, which helps me to be less ignorant. Despite the fact that I've been here for two years, there are still many things I don't know about or places I haven't visited yet, but if I had to compare myself to a Montrealer, I'd say I know more about their city than they do. It is important to be aware of your surroundings and to make the most of what is available to us. I've had the opportunity to meet people from other cities around Canada, and they've all told me how wonderful this city is in comparison to their own, which makes me realise how fortunate I am to be able to live here.
Tumblr media
What i also like about Montreal is that this city hosts a variety of events throughout the year to keep us entertained, which makes even more interesting.
Here's a video to help you get a better idea of what you'll discover in Montreal:

zine research
a few examples of zines from different artist that i like. i may include some of their design choices into my final zine booklet.
Home Zine Issue 3:
this zine focuses on the people who make us feel at home and an exploration of belonging. it features colourful pages and illustrations. i like how it has a calm feel when looking at it. i also like how one of the page(s) looks like the photo is going off the page, not showing the full photo and how it . issue 3 is curated by Tallulah Fontaine and Carla McRae and showcases work by Fontaine, as well as Wade Jeffree, Leta Sobierajski, and many others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Willem Verbeeck - America’s Playground:
this artist showcases 37 color images of Coney Island, an amusement park located in New York City with a poem by Clare Chodos Irvine.  i like how each page is not consistent to one size for the photo or positioned the same as the previous page, but the photos compliment each other. i also like how some pages only consist of 1 photo and the rest of the page acts as negative space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tom Sachs - Chawan Zine:
this artist made his zine to document his exhibition showcasing the art alongside the writing. i like how this one is minimalist and how it has small writing describing the art. i also like how two pages is filled with 1 photo and there is a written text on top of the photo but you are still able to see the photo in the background.

Is that LULU ANTARIKSA? No, that’s just MARCELLINE “MARC” FONTAINE. They were born on 22/08/1996 and are a MERMAID/WITCH HYBRID living in Northknot Town. They work as a FIREFIGHTER. Some say they're COURAGEOUS and FIERCE, but I’ve heard others say they're CONCEITED and DAUNTING. When you think of HER, don’t you think of BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, A STORM WRAPPED IN SKIN, BURNING BUT NEVER BROKEN?
Name: Marcelline Sage Fontaine
Age/Date of birth: 24/August 22 1996
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Occupation: Firefighter
Quotes:
“I am fire. If you want something salty and sweet, with no opinion, I am not the woman for you. I spit flames, often.”
“She’s worth whatever chaos she brings to the table and you know it.”
“She’s whiskey in a teacup. She’s a diamond that wants to stay coal.”
Biography: (tw: abandonment, verbal abuse mention, implied drug use)
It was a story of star crossed lovers that led to the birth of Marcelline and soon after the beginning of her mothers downward spiral. Her mother was still only seventeen when she left the water with the help of a warlock that made her the ring giving her the ability to do so. A trip meant to be a coming of age adventure that led to her moving back to the water to settle down ended up being a string of rebellious actions. She fell in love with the man who gave her the ring and he fell for her. They were convinced they would find a way to make things work and thus when Marc came along the two were bright eyed and happy as clams.
The happiness did not last long for the two as her mothers parents came to find her once a year had passed without any word from her. They were irate at the situation they came upon and at first they intended to leave Marc to be raised by witches but her affinity for water quickly became clear and they fell in love with the small baby. Each time Marc met the water she transformed into her true form. She could bring water to her from a running source and it was clear that she was made to be a part of the world beneath the waves. Forcing their daughter and granddaughter back into the sea they took away the ability for them to leave and thus took Marc from any chance of a father.
Marc’s mother was only a child herself and took the blow hard. She blamed baby Marc for ruining her chances at a happy life and sunk into a deep depression. In the beginning of her life Marc had grandparents to raise her but the two were both taken from her far too soon and it was once again just she and her mother. A mother who now a few years later had no hope for returning to the man she loved and had instead turned to dangerous vices. Ones that could easily have killed someone of mermaid heritage should they make any mistakes. Vices that also led to her once again getting a ring to live on land. A ring which left Marc to raise herself when her mother disappeared for weeks at a time.
The saving grace in Marc’s life also came at a young age when she met Atlas, the boy who would eventually become the only family she had. Of course at first they were merely playmates in her very young years but when her mom started to leave the then eight year old became even closer to Atlas and his family. It was never odd to them that she nearly lived in their home because nobody really knew the things Marc suffered through. The verbal abuse from her mother paired with the abandonment that seemed to be even more common still was something that she kept quiet. After all why would she tell someone she wanted to impress that she was suffering.
And suffer she did spending her formative years unable to understand the people around her and growing more and more introverted along the way. She learned to lie and steal in order to care for herself and the methods she used only stayed as tame as they did due to her best friend. Along the way Atlas learned much of the secrets she kept from everyone around her and he kept them as well. Still he also did what he could to help her to avoid needing to commit crimes to survive. The two were still in their very young preteen years and yet they seemed to be wiser than most of their age. Without Atlas she may not have been given much of a chance at a life of her own and she knows that even today.
Eventually when it came time for her to be of age to receive a ring for living on land she was quick to begin the move from the sea to land. She moved faster than Atlas in this aspect due to him having a family but the two were never far from each other for long. She would go back and forth as much as needed to establish her new life but also to be with her best friend. Marc could never have imagined a life without him and thus she had one foot in each version of her life until he finally was able to decide to come with her. From then on where one went the other followed. They explored the land and its wonders together and helped each other survive and adapt as needed.
Along the way Marc studied the other half of who she was and found ways to control her magic and affinity for the element of water through hard work and research. A coven has never become a thing of interest for her but Northknot itself offers enough opportunity for her to learn without her needing to be part of a group she isn’t sure she’d ever fit into. She has tried to find her father through her journey but it’s a thought in the back of her mind and not something she needs. No, Marc doesn’t find herself needing much of anything from others in her life. Trust is earned and there is only one person in her life that has earned that.
Nowadays the two still live together and spend much time around each other. A puzzle made of only two pieces they have a small family of their own in an odd way. Marc has trained to become a firefighter and now uses the magic she had to fight fires in a way that feels very natural to her. Marc may live on the land but a large part of her is connected to the water and it will always be that way. Her past has shaped a lot of who she is today but her present is still forming the young woman into something more. Marc still has plenty of growing to do and leaving her past in the past might just be the first step she can take.
Connections:
OTHER HALF: The only person who has ever had her back and she will always have his. This is the boy she trusts most and possibly the only person she has trusted in her life. They do everything together and have since they were little. These two are ride or die. Complete opposites tangled together in the most unlikely of connections. He is without a doubt the only person she has ever loved. (TAKEN - Atlas Laveau)
EX SOMETHING OR OTHER: The one thing Marcelline doesn’t do is serious relationships. She’s taken her shot at dating though and this girl was one of the few to make it past more than a first date. It was kept entirely a secret from everyone aside from her best friend. It crashed and burned really quickly after Marc took the hint that she was getting cold shouldered. (TAKEN - Laurel Parks)
POSSIBLE HALF SIBLINGS: Marc never knew her dad past infancy and while she spent her life underwater with the Mermaid half of her family her father was a warlock on land. These would be half siblings on their fathers side so her witch half. Her mother had no other kids. (OPEN)
COWORKERS: Pretty self explanatory but people she works with and is civil with because their jobs are important. Can be firefighters, EMTS or even in law enforcement. These are just people she respects as long as they respect her. Possibly as close to friends as she gets. (OPEN - UNLIMITED)
LOVE/HATE FRIEND WITH BENEFITS: Marc hasn’t really had a serious relationship of any sort. She doesn’t let people in enough for that. This person is probably someone she is purely attracted to and possibly sometimes pissed off by. A rough and tumble sort of thing because anything soft would probably freak her out too much to happen. A little bit more hate than love/hate in all honesty. (OPEN)

In Memory of Tina Fontaine
Over three years ago, in August of 2014, a fifteen year old Indigenous girl named Tina Fontaine disappeared from the hotel room Child and Family Services (CFS, the Canadian version of the American Child Protective Services, or CPS) had placed her in. She was originally from the Sagkeeng First Nation, a Reserve in Manitoba, not that far from Winnipeg, where I live. Tina had been through tragedy; in 2011, when she was twelve, her father Eugene was diagnosed with cancer and given four months to live. He didn’t even get that- one day, he got in an argument with two supposed friends (Nicholas Abraham and Jonathan Starr) and a fight started. The two men beat Eugene Fontaine repeatedly, for hours, and then dragged him outside to a shed and left him tied up, with no shirt on a cold fall night. He died, cold and beaten. It affected Tina deeply, as you can imagine. According to her family, she was unable to cope and began drifting away.
One of many tragedies in this whole thing are the killers; Nicholas Abraham was raised by violent alcoholics, experienced abuse from young childhood, ended up in CFS care for most of his life after both his parents went to prison when he was five. Jonathan Starr is even worse: he also ended up in CFS care, and was subjected to, according to his lawyer, “horrific physical and sexual abuse”. To top it off, he had rather severe Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, to the point where, mentally, he had the mental capacity of about a ten year old. I share this information not to excuse their actions, but to paint a picture of the kind of cycles of abuse, addiction, and violence Indigenous people go through.
Tina’s mother, Valentina Duck, lived in Winnipeg (Tina had mainly been raised by her great-aunt, Thelma Favel), and in June of 2014, Tina and her sister Sarah traveled to Winnipeg to visit their mother. They were meant to stay for a week, but Sarah almost immediately left to go back home. Thelma gave Tina a long-distance call card in case she wanted to leave earlier. Tina didn’t call, but she did run away, and during the next few weeks, Tina met both Cody Mason, an eighteen year old she began dating and who offered her a place to stay- his father’s house- where she did stay for about two weeks, and the man recently ruled not guilty in her death, fifty year old Raymond Cormier.
Tina’s involvement with authorities was when her great-aunt Thelma Favel called CFS on July 17th, worried because she hadn’t heard from Tina in weeks. CFS picked her up and placed her in the Capri Motel, where she left almost immediately. This might be a good time to say that since Tina, the practice of placing children in CFS in hotels and motels has since been banned in Manitoba, but before that it was very common. This led to many children and teenagers- especially those who had just been apprehended, many of whom didn’t feel they were abused or in danger, whether that’s true or not- being unsupervised and, as you may expect, many runaways. These were children and teenagers who were predominately already at the highest risk of going missing, being murdered, or being exploited. The reason they put kids in hotels- which other provinces still do- is because they simply apprehend too many kids to have places in foster or group homes for them all. I will say I know for a fact some people who are in various types of social work have called what’s been going on with the apprehended children, especially since the Phoenix Sinclair case (that is a whole other story and honestly too sad for me to do the amount of research I’m doing on this one), the ‘new residential school system’ or a ‘second sixties scoop’. But I digress.
Tina had been reported missing on July 18th, after she went AWOL from the motel. She was picked up by a social worker and taken to the Ndinawe group home on July 23rd. On July 26th, she missed the 10:30pm curfew and was reported missing just after midnight, although she showed up again at Ndinawe a few hours later. Around this time, Tina wanted to go home, according to a family friend. He and his girlfriend had recently had a baby, and were going to Sagkeeng for a visit. Tina wanted to catch a ride with them, but by the time she messaged them on July 28th, they had already left.
She missed curfew at Ndinawe again on July 30th, and was reported missing on July 31st, although her aunt would later say she had stayed with her from August 1st to 3rd. On August 5th, Tina phoned her CFS worker and was picked up by the police and CFS. August 6th, her boyfriend, Mason, flew back to his home community, St. Theresa Point First Nation, a reserve in Northern Manitoba. Upset, Tina rode a bike to the place Cormier was with two other people she knew, Sarah Holland and Tyrell Morrison. Some time that evening, Cormier borrowed the bike Tina had to go buy weed. He apparently traded the bike for two grams, which Cormier claims is what she and him argued about that night, and the reason Tina left around 10pm. Other witnesses, however, testified she left because Cormier was being inappropriate. They also told the court Tina had threatened to call the cops about the truck full of tools Cormier had stolen that day.
She did, in fact, call 911 about the truck shortly after she left. On the call, which you can hear here, Tina tells the 911 operator her friend Sebastian- the name Cormier had been going by that summer- had stolen a truck. As this was not an emergency, the 911 operator told her she needed to call the police directly, giving her the number and instructions on talking to a person. As she was on a payphone, and may not have had the change needed to call a non-emergency number, it seems like she didn’t. Robert Sango (a man who, in full disclosure, was on parole and living at a half-way house, but doesn’t seem to have any reason to lie) testified that he was near the payphone smoking when she used it, and after she hung up asked for a smoke and sat with him. He testified that Tina told him she had been at a friend’s house, but left because an older man was making moves on her. She said she was scared someone was following her and that she had no place to go. He said when she left, she headed in the direction of “a friend’s house”.
On August 8th, around 5am, police pulled over a truck that was “driving suspiciously”. Inside were the driver, a man with a suspended license who was taken into custody, and Tina Fontaine. The man later told court he had picked her up off the street after driving around, looking for a girl to “hang out with”. It doesn’t take a genius to translate that into ‘pay for sex’. Tina gave police two fake names before giving her real one, afraid she was in trouble. One of the cops told his partner, a new recruit, to search her name. The new recruit testified he saw that she had been a missing person previously, but didn’t see a current missing persons alert on her name, although at that time she definitely was. Tina didn’t appear to be in any distress, and as the new recruit had failed to notice the missing persons alert, they let her go.
A few hours later, security footage in a parkade show Tina taking shelter from the rain, lying down between two parked cars, and falling asleep. Half an hour later, around 10am, two people walking through the parkade saw Tina and went to alert security. When the security guard was unable to wake Tina, she called 911. Paramedics showed up around 10.30am and were able to wake her, although she seemed disoriented and was “struggling with knowing where she was and who she was”, according to the security guard, who also said she had what looked like either mosquito bites or cigarette burns on her legs which looked “awful” (having lived in Winnipeg my entire life, I would not be surprised in the slightest in there were mosquito bites, but this is speculation), and a blister on her lip. Paramedics took her to the Children’s Hospital, who contacted CFS. She was looked over by a doctor, who took blood and urine samples. The doctor was worried Tina was being sexually exploited, but Tina refused a physical exam and wouldn’t answer questions. The doctor testified “I tried to counsel her, get her to open up to me. I told her about the dangers she could be in. I tried to urge her not to run away from CFS.” Not long after that, CFS worker Kimberly Chute showed up and stayed with Tina until she was discharged.
Kimberly took Tina to McDonalds to get something to eat after they left the hospital in an effort to get Tina to open up, something she says she does with many kids in her care. Tina did open up some, telling Kimberly she had lost her bike, and that she had been hanging out with a much older guy she called by the name Cormier had been using, ‘Sebastian’, who she said used meth, who was going to get her a new bike. Kimberly tried not to make a big deal about it in an effort not to scare Tina off and get her to open up some more, and told her that CFS could help her get a new bike. That evening, Kimberly dropped Tina off at a Best Western hotel in downtown Winnipeg, where CFS had placed her. Tina told her she was planning on meeting some friends at Portage Place mall, a place where drugs commonly dealt and children and teenagers are known to be exploited. Kimberly tried to convince Tina to stay at the hotel, but there was no way for her to physically prevent her from leaving, and turned her over to a respite worker, Ngozi Ikeh, who also tried to convince Tina to stay at the hotel, but was also unable to convince her. Tina left soon afterwards. She was reported missing for the fifth and final time after she hadn’t returned by midnight on August 9th. Eight days later, on August 17th, she was found dead in the Red River, wrapped in garbage bags and a duvet cover, weighed down with rocks. She is believed to have died August 10th, the day after she was reported missing.
The evidence that Cormier killed her or was even just involved somehow, whether during or after the fact, are these: to start off with, he knew her. He was a fifty year old man hanging out with a fifteen year old, who Mason says gave them a place to sleep despite being homeless himself. Mason also testified that Cormier gave him and Tina pills- gabapenton, an increasingly common drug on the streets that’s prescribed generally for nerve pain and epilepsy. Cormier had been staying in a tent in Ida Beardy’s backyard that summer, and she testified that he had a lot of blankets (unsurprisingly, for a homeless person who lives in a city where there’s often snow six months a year and the temperature drops to -40) and both she and her daughter testified that one of these blankets, a duvet cover which he used to air out on her fence, matched the one Tina’s body was found wrapped in. The duvet cover was identified as one only sold at Costco, and furthermore one of only 100 sold in Winnipeg. Ida Beardy also says she told him to leave after he smashed her BBQ after his bike was stolen, demonstrating anger problems and violent tendencies. Although no one reported this to the police, and is not on the record of any kind, at least one woman had been attacked by him before. He is recorded saying he wanted to sleep with Tina, and got angry when he found out she was only fifteen. We know Tina and him fought a few days before her death, and according to the testimony of Robert Sango, Tina had left when Cormier made moves on her and afterwards, even away from him, felt afraid and thought someone was following her.
And, of course, we have the recording of him saying Tina “got killed because we, I, found out she was fifteen”, which along with his anger about her age, his concern about people thinking he was a pedophile, and his pursuit of her, really all add up to him admitting he killed her.
But between the river washing any DNA evidence away, the lack of eyewitnesses to the murder itself, and the relentless idea that because Tina- a fifteen year old girl- might have involved in sex work, did some drugs, and was a runaway, somehow that means her death was just what is to be expected, Cormier was pronounced not guilty.
Here’s the thing: it’s not just that Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are more likely to be killed or go missing. It’s not just the Highway of Tears, or the fact that a volunteer group was started called ‘Drag the Red’ to do exactly that: these volunteer civilians- trained by volunteer forensic anthropologists and volunteer archaeologists- search the banks of the Red River and drag fish hooks down the bottom of the muddy water Winnipeg takes it’s name from, hoping to find bodies and/or evidence- every single person who lives here knowing there are bodies down in the zero visibility water (since the group has started dragging the Red, several bodies have been found, and while it’s not by them, they note that several times the day before the body was found they had been on the river and caught a snag on something heavy. They believe they’re dislodging bodies). It’s not teenagers writing letters asking to be buried in the red dress that has become a symbol for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women if they were to be murdered. It’s not even the systematic, generational abuse and trauma Indigenous peoples have experienced in Canada for generations upon generations. Being forced onto Reserves, having their children stolen, active and passive genocide. It’s not just the huge, blaring things.
It’s the teachers I had in elementary school that called their students ‘stupid Indi**s’ to their faces. It’s my best friend in grade six not coming back from lunch, being missing all afternoon, and not a single adult questioning where she was- I learned the next day she was fine, she had found a dog running around and went along with the dog instead of going to school, meaning an eleven year old girl at a high statistical danger of becoming another name on the list of MMIW was wandering around busy streets for hours and not a single adult that was supposed to be looking after her gave a damn. It’s the flasher that stalked two of my Metis friends to school and back home for weeks when we were nine that, again, no adult thought to do anything about. It’s another girl I was friends with when I was seven who came to school with broken fingers, told the teacher her brother had slammed her hand in a door repeatedly, and was sent home (BACK TO HER BROTHER) because her hand was too busted to hold a pencil. It’s the numerous teachers who consistently put the Indigenous kids in lower level spelling and the non-Indigenous appearing kids in high level spelling, meaning while kids who could spell circles around me were being assumed to be uneducated by default and weren’t permitted to learn more than what they already knew, kids (like me) who couldn’t spell shit were assumed to be advanced.
It’s the crowdsourced taxi services for Indigenous women in Winnipeg because taxis are dangerous as fuck for women to get in here. It’s the Bear Clan Patrol, another group of volunteer civilians who act as a sort of safety patrol for the most dangerous parts of Winnipeg. It’s that the majority of Indigenous children from reservations only have two choices, when it comes to high school- drop out, or go to the city to attend school (imagine yourself, about to start high school; imagine any ninth graders you know, and imagine them leaving home for a much larger city all alone. Some have family to stay with. Some don’t). It’s that the Manitoba Museum had the body of an Inuit man displayed until someone- I believe in the 70s, or possibly the 80s- looked at that and realized it was fucked up to have a dead guy there’s no proof wanted to be an exhibit in a museum displayed like he was one and they gave him back to his family. I don’t know who the person to realize it was fucked up was. Maybe they worked at the museum. Maybe the family themselves did. It’s that Residential Schools- the schools opened with the express purpose to ‘breed out the Ind**n’ by forcibly removing children from their culture and beating them if they tried to speak their languages or practice their faiths or traditions- were open during my life time. It’s that Indigenous children in foster care sometimes get their hair forcibly cut, something very much against many Tribe’s culture and beliefs. It’s the quiet deaths of babies, children, and teenagers in CFS care. It’s the nine year olds hanging themselves, the ten year olds starting gangs for safety and the money to support families that don’t have an adult checked in enough to provide either. It’s the teenage girl that got kicked off a bus for wearing a ‘Got Land?’ shirt. It’s the addiction, and mental illness, and homelessness, and lack of support. It’s the bruises I’ve seen from police brutality. It’s the mural made for the 150th Canada Day painted over in the night with words of resistance which were immediately covered. It’s the statues of white men who led genocide being allowed, but Louis Riel still being considered a traitor by the Canadian government. It’s the small, insidious things that creep in and don’t let go, until your culture is gone, your children are gone, your land and tradition and religion and people are gone.
We don’t know the true number of MMIWG since 1980, but recent studies by the RCMP show over a thousand cases of Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited people going missing or their bodies being found murdered.
Indigenous men make up about 3% of Canada’s population, but 25% of imprisoned men in Canada are Indigenous.
Roughly 170 Indigenous communities do not have access to clean water. Many only have running water in the too short summer. Some don’t have running water at all.
Indigenous children under fourteen make up over 52% of those in CFS care in Canada. In Manitoba alone, a province with 1.3 million people- 17% of which are Indigenous- Indigenous children make up 90% of the 10,700 in CFS care.
Indigenous people are almost six times more likely to get tuberculosis than other Canadians, and in Nunavut, they are THIRTY-EIGHT TIMES MORE LIKELY.
I don’t know what else to say. I don’t know what more one can say to convince someone there’s a problem, a deep, embedded problem, dug into the stolen land we sit on. I don’t know what to suggest to fix these problems. Fix the train bridge to Northern Manitoba, help build the Freedom Road Shoal Lake 40 is building in an attempt to have access to clean water, since the water diverted for them makes you sick, put in place better supports for Indigenous families when CFS gets involved, force the police to care. There isn’t an easy fix. Not for any of it, really, without a lot of money and a huge shift in ingrained racism. But I think we could start off by actually giving justice to the people who abuse, assault, and kill Indigenous people, Indigenous children.

Preview Sonic City - Deel 2
I miss the old Ceremony”. Zolang ze het niveau van meest recente worp “In The Spirit World Now” kunnen aanhouden, missen wij die helemaal niet.  ✰ ✰ ✰
