I know we collectively agree that Hiccup isn’t romantically inclined, and his getting married and having kids didn’t make sense in the epilogue, but consider: Hiccup getting married for political reasons.
It’s a marriage of alliance, which is recognized both by him and his partner, and they enter it without expectations of romantic involvement. Since they’re now married, they live in the same castle, spend time together, and Hiccup finds he really likes his spouse. They’re funny, get along with his friends, and has the same interests and values. They both probably speak multiple languages. She understands why Hiccup is so dedicated to making the Wilderwest better, and holds similar views. She’s a good politician (her job after all, was to be an ambassador). Hiccup likes spending time with them, and the feeling is mutual. They’re not in love, they have their own lives, but they’re dedicated to each other and eventually decide to raise children. They teach their kids how to train hawks and hunt with dragons, riding, history, the Languages, and all the necessary skills of their world. They’re not in love and they’re happy together.

Does anyone REALLY believe that the Ukraine wants peace? Well. Try this one on for size:
One of Zelensky's conditions for peace is that Russia's leadership agrees to stand trial for war crimes.
There can be no peace until Putin surrenders to Zelensky to stand trial, according to Zelensky.
That's among the conditions that Zelensky requires before he'll accept peace. And Joe Biden is paying for this guy to launch terrorism at Russia, risking nuclear war... because he's so reasonable, one presumes.

Important PSA: Do not ask linguists how many languages they speak. Linguistics is the scientific study of language, investigating things such as (but not limited to): how language can be modeled as a complex logic system; the cognitive processes and neurological structures that support the acquisition, storage, and usage of language; the biological and acoustic mechanisms involved in the production/perception of language; how language influences society and how society influences language.
Other things linguists do: work with communities to document or revitalize dying languages; develop dictionaries; work on language modeling software; consult for copyright litigation; reconstruct dead languages.
Really lucky linguists get hired by Hollywood to create fictional languages for sci-fi and fantasy blockbusters.
What linguists do not do: spend all day learning foreign languages. (Alas, if you are a linguist who enjoys learning foreign languages, you must do it in your free time, not during work hours.)
Also! Another important PSA: Any linguist who has learned, like, anything about language, WILL NOT JUDGE YOUR GRAMMAR! Do NOT apologize to a linguist for how you speak. Remember: no dialect is "more correct" than another. There is literally no objective criteria with which you can compare two languages or dialects and decide one is "better" than the other. If you are communicating successfully, you're doing language right!

I was once talking to mutual (@bibliophilesince2003) about my OC, Althea, and she was telling me what she thought about Althea.
She said that she thought Althea was more on the introverted side, which made me laugh so hard because Althea is the character I tried to make the most extroverted.
I am so antisocial that I can't even write a character that likes to be around people!

I was gonna say "why am i not fluent in italian yet" and then remembered why and then remembered the insanity i heard after an oral exam a bit ago. Where the prof told me and the girl who was taking the exam with me that because we don't have a complete grasp of the language, we can give off the effect that we don't know the material, so we should "go spend the summer in italy to really internalise the language" and the girl and i just looked at eo like. Girl with what money

I was tagged by @sothischickshe (thank you hon!! How are you? ❤🥰😘) to post 9 of my fave film first watches of 2023, and like...
Well first thing is, I'm properly incapable of telling when I watched stuff, like I discovered yesterday with utter shock that Joe Biden wasn't elected two years ago, so y'know what even is time etc, I don't know fucking shit about what I watched in 2023, 2022, etc.
Second thing is, I tend to watch more shows than movies in a general way, although I did watch quite an unusual amount of movies lately (lately as in "Somewhere between now and I wanna say 2022"), but mostly because of a certain actress I do despise now and honestly most of these movies weren't great anyway.
My point is that I don't know what to list haha, but I guess there are still a few ideas coming to mind:
Bonne conduite (2023). Saw this one in the theater, was already sold on it based on the cast, had a wonderful time.
Intouchables (2011). Not as cheesy and boring as I thought it would be.
Elle l'adore (2014). Fairly enjoyable, but mostly I watched this at a time when it was particularly resonant with my own state of mind.
The room (2003). Hi-la-rious.
Illusions perdues (2021). Randomly and unintendedly stumbled upon it on tv and really enjoyed the first two hours (then I had to go to bed but I'm definitely planning on catching up with the ending).
Sentinelle (2023). Just like I predicted it would be. Jonathan Cohen jonathancohen-ing around. Not that I'd complain though.
Tagging if u wanna play @humanbra @ficuscircus @hemerae-ramblings @pia-writes-things @sdktrs12 @asteraceae-blue @earanie @jmeclatejerome @luluonthemoon

🇺🇸 🚨 THE US FOREIGN AID AND DEFENSE SPENDING RACKET EXPLAINED IN THREE GRAPHS
In three graphs, why the United States is clearly in extreme, rapid decline, and the evidence for why ordinary Americans will pay the price for the decades of perpetual-war policies in their own standard of living.
There's a reason why the minimum wage hasn't been raised since 2009. Why there's no money for schools, why our hospitals and doctors are a mess, why theres homeless people on every city's streets, including the mentally ill, the drug addicted, and veterans, no money to deal with out of control crime in American cities, the waves of constant immigration meant to destroy your wages... There's only ever money for more federal law enforcement, more war, more "foreign aid" aka corruption rackets for US vassal states.
During the very years we watched this decline take place, spending on foreign aid and defense spending have gone constantly upwards while wages declined and income Inequality skyrocketed.
The evidence for the betrayal of the American people by their corrupt elite is everywhere, and the debt we will be saddled with for generations is unimaginably large: $34.209 trillion at the time of writing this.
Every American will suffer the consequences for the imperialism of their elites, and in fact already are as displayed clearly by the flattening of US wage growth simultaneously alongside the increase in foreign aid and defense spending.
It's elites taking money out of your pocket, out of your retirement, your children's college education, your family's healthcare, your wages, your life, and putting it into the same super wealthy, billionaire elites who've wanted to kill social security and Medicare and use the US Military to enforce a system of control, impoverishment and censorship on all of us across the world. Or fund genocides, you know, whatever's profitable. 🇵🇸
It is nothing more than an old fashioned racket, an upward transfer of wealth, and it always has been.

Do you think Ramattra is «love at first sight» type of guy or it’s always feelings that bloom overtime until him or his loved one confesses
Oh it takes him forever to acknowledge his feelings for you. He might instantly be intrigued by you or even feel compelled to speak with you more often, but it'll take soooo long for him to realize what he's feeling (and even longer to admit that that's what it is). Most likely you'll end up confessing first.
