A friend just notified me that it is the annual Day of the Seafarer so here's a free comic about crossing the Pacific on an oceanographic research vessel to celebrate! (This voyage was also the source of the most popular thing I've ever put on Tumblr.)
ALSO, to go with Shade's Choice, I made a free Two-Faced PDF with special artist commentary. Finally you can read Two-Faced with commentary from a grown man under it instead of a teenager with unrecognized gender dysphoria getting into fights in the comments. If you haven't read Two-Faced before this is my preferred way for you to read it, and if you have you already know my shame so go in peace. It's free! Did I mention it's free?
For anyone just tuning in, Black Magic is a long form urban fantasy webcomic about a high school senior from Virginia named Ella who finds herself trapped between rebel fighters and her family's dark past. Dropped suddenly into a messy underground sorcerer war that spans two continents she'll have to walk a dangerous path to keep herself and all the people she loves on both sides alive. She hopes she figures out who she really is along the way. It's a story with heaps of found family, dragons, monsters, dangerous cults, adventure, betrayal, and rainbow magic.
There's black magic too, since you were wondering. I couldn't call it Rainbow Magic. That would be silly.
Black Magic will always be free to read on Webtoon and all my art social medias. On youtube I've got videos showing my process for every page. Sometimes I stream on Twitch.
This comic is exclusively supported by wonderful patrons on Patreon. The goal is $63/$1000 monthly to quit my part time video game illustration work and dedicate more time to the comic. Right now I also work full time as a web admin for a city in Texas, but that's just so I can afford groceries and the backyard shed I live in.
This is the Buddy for October 14th. It was made with Inkscape, again - it's got the whole "floating island over black background like we're outside of the universe" thing going.
Okay, so, this is going to be a deep cut. When I was real young - like before I even knew how to read - I found a bag of pizza-flavored corn chips, one of those that are shaped like little pizzas (or rather, like rotelle pasta), and it had a protoceratops mascot on the bag - because protoceratops' horns look like pizza, of course.
The bag came with a free black-and-white comic, which featured the dinosaur hero going on adventure, and I remember a scene much like today's Buddy, where she was jumping around these floating islands over a black background, likely to get to some final boss living on the topmost island. It's a bizarre memory.
But of course, it's all probably bullshit. After all, how could I know what a protoceratops was before I could even read? Why would a cheap pizza-flavored corn chip come with a free comic? Do they even do that? Why would this short comic feature such a trippy scene? The floating island trope didn't even exist back then. How did I knew it was a girl protoceratops if I couldn't read?
The more likely answer is, I just dreamt that happened, or it was a false memory or something like that. But still, I think about it from time to time as one of those vaguely nostalgic things you can't really pin down.
This is my comic! Psst!!!!! Its free. I worked on the first chapter for my thesis in school and finally got around to posting the whole first part! Below are some funny little snippets that may entice you into reading it (you wanna read it so bad, you wanna read it so bad).
IF YOU LIKE SOME FANTASY, KNIGHTS, MAGIC, EVIL FIENDS, AND A PRETTY MAN CRYING THEN YOU MAY LIKE THIS.
Chapter 2 will come out as soon as possible (once I’ve finished my current commissions) so please feel free to read and share and leave a funny little comment or what have you.
