Just like the title states, this post intends to cover everything there is to know about Ghost King Danny fics for the DPxDC crossover on Ao3! Understandably, this is a very long post and there are a lot of numbers involved, so you may want to be prepared!

Did You Know?

There are a total of 1,334 Ghost King Danny Fenton fics found on Ao3. Of that figure, DPxDC makes up 697 fics- a whopping 52.25% of all fics under the "Ghost King Danny Fenton" tag. Danny Phantom, one of the parent fandoms for this crossover, have a total of 439 fics, which amounts to 32.91% of this tag.

But that's just the broader overview of the Ghost King trope for the crossover. Looking deeper reveals more interesting details about this concept and the authors' preferences.

Before we begin, it would be remiss of me not to include a disclaimer about this information. You are otherwise free to ignore this list, but for those of you who are interested on where or how I gathered this data, I thought it would be appropriate to be as open as possible.

These numbers were gathered through manual labor on the site, Archive of Our Own.

These numbers were compiled in one day- September 12th, 2023, and as such, may not reflect the statistics on Ao3 in, for example, one month from now.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: These figures only include fics that have been explicitly tagged as Ghost King Danny. While some stories not included in these statistics may have hints towards his royal status, a good rule of thumb is to never assume the trope will be included in a fic until given reason to. The best way to do that is when the author properly tags "Ghost King Danny Fenton" on their work.

These numbers do not include any other crossovers, nor three-way crossovers. Ex: A Danny Phantom, DC, Miraculous Ladybug crossover. This is not to put down these other crossovers in any way, shape or form, but to show a clear, concise overview of the DPxDC community on Ao3.

Fun Fact!: As I gathered the data, I had to manually remove an incredible 57 fandoms and media from the Ghost King Danny tag in order to compile this list. [*] There are countless of other crossovers still going strong to this day, and while this post may not be about them, they deserve a round of applause as well!

To wrap up this entire post, let's look at some at some important or intriguing details we've gleaned from these statistics.

Most stories with this tag are Rated Teen.

Similarly, most stories do not have applicable Archive Warnings.

Gen fics, or stories without romance, make up the most Ghost King Danny fics for the crossover.

Batman - All Media Types sweeps up the competition and can be found in most crossovers.

This may be surprising to some, but Bruce Wayne appears in more crossovers under the Ghost King banner than any of his children.

More people have written about Danny Fenton & Jason Todd in a platonic relationship than a romantic one.

There have been arguments that depictions of Jack and Maddie as bad parents are everywhere in the crossover. Numbers show, however, that for the Ghost King Danny Fenton tag it is very unlikely. Even if there were a hundred more fics that use one of the alternate tags, that would still only be 27.4%. That's little over 1/4 of all Ghost King DPxDC fics. Now, 1/4 might sound like a lot, but when you consider that there are 3/4 of other stories that do not include this concept, or the Fenton parents' skills are irrelevant to the story told, that's not actually as many as it would seem.

I've been meaning to make a list of spooky (Thai - because negl that's 99% of what I watch) BL series and movies and what better time to post this than in October?

Spooky BL are my favourite flavour of BL. Turns out, there's actually a lot of them (maybe because Thailand does horror so well). These are only the ones I've watched (and enjoyed) so this list isn't complete.

*On another note: horror doesn't faze me at all so I can't really accurately say how scary some of these are. If you have squicks or triggers like jump scares, gore or bad endings please feel free to ask and I will do my best to give you a heads-up.

✨Spooky Thai BL✨

He's Coming To Me | Probably one of the first series everyone will think of. Not that spooky but a solid ghost(love) story with a murder mystery at its core.

Hidden Love | This is a budget show filmed under serious constraints during the worst of the covid pandemic. It's clichéd. It's over the top. But it's also got its charms. It comes with a tragic ghost (love) story that completely overshadows everything else with its many flashbacks and plot twists. If you manage to get over the camp. I warned you.

Dear Doctor I'm Coming For Soul | This one has reapers and ghosts and lots of bittersweetness. It's not that creepy since the supernatural elements are very matter-of-fact. It will make you cry though, sorry. :(

Ghost Host, Ghost House | Spooky with incredible chemistry between the leads and a cast of characters that you will immediately fall in love with.

He She It | A three-episode miniseries with a haunting soundtrack and a nice plot twist. This will make you miss JeffGameplay. :(

Low Frequency | Not spooky at all, and a bit slow and empty at times, but it has ghosts (in a way) and a sweet enough couple.

Make a Wish | Unfortunately, this has never had an inter release. There's inofficial subs floating around on grey sites but as of yet the series hasn't been fully translated. Which is a pity because it's a cute show about angels and spirit possession and (some) murder mystery.

Midnight Museum | I'm stubbornly putting this under BL. This show has everything and everyone. It's genuinely spooky at times but mostly draws on folklore, the mystical and an absolutely stellar cast.

On Cloud Nine | Short and beautiful. An indie production that's more ethereal than genuinely spooky.

🎞️Red Wine in the Dark Night | The oldest entry in this list. Admittedly, not very spooky (and instead rather surreal and sad), but it has one (1) vampire and Fluke Natouch in a role that's more grounded than we're used to nowadays.

Something in my Room | A spooky show with ghosts, mystery and romance that hides a lot of commentary behind metaphors and allegory. Criminally underrated because it didn't have a wide enough release. If you want to binge something fun and spooky for Halloween then this is the series to go. Prepare tissues.

✨Not a BL but hey, I know that actor!✨

Enigma | Win Metawin (and surprise guest!) in an incredibly well done 4-episode series about the occult with interesting worldbuilding and the promise of a second season.

🎞️Ghost Lab | Tor Thanapob and Ice Paris in a genuinely gruesome, shocking and scary horror movie. You've been warned.

Girl From Nowhere | One of the best things tv has to offer, and genuinely dark as well. Up Poompat, Pepo Nutchapan and James Teeradon feature in some of the loosely-connected episodes.

🎞️Hoon Payon | Phuwin Tangsakyuen, Up Poompat and Bank Nuttawat in a classic spiritual ghost story. More shocking than scary.

🎞️Inhuman Kiss | Oab Oabnithi and Great Sapol (sadly, not as a couple) in a sad and romantic take on a classic Thai legend.

Let's Fight Ghost | A Thai remake of a fun and somewhat spooky kdrama with spiritual themes. And Saint Suppapong.

🎞️Pee Nak 1, 2, 3 (and soon 4) | I'm biased because I really like this movie series. It's spooky but in a fun way. It has queer characters (as comedic relief - but not in a degrading way) and can get surprisingly deep. Watch this if you want to see (baby!) Tar Atiwat grow up on screen (because he's in all four movies). The third movie rewards you with some surprisingly sweet MeanPlan that might continue into the fourth movie.

School Tales | A Thai horror anthology centred around students at various schools. This series has Fiat Patchata, Kay Lertsittichai, Pepo Nutchapan, Mark Siwat and, most prominently, Saint Suppapong and Chimon Wachirawit in well-paced 50-minute episodes.

The Stranded | One of my favourite series ever. If you watched LOST then you know what to expect. This has 3 QL couples (Perth Tanapon & Mark Siwat, Win Pawin & Tanthai Tatchapol, Ticha Wongtipkanon & Chaleeda Gilbert) but don't expect any of them to get a happy ending. Sadly, this series ended on a cliffhanger and won't get a second season due to the lead actor's tragic passing and Nadao's dissolution.

✨Upcoming Spooky BL✨

7 Days Before Valentine | Death Note but make it even more of a BL. Patrick Rangsimant originally wrote this so I'm really excited. Plus, it will begin airing in November which is almost as good as October.

🎞️After Sundown | A period ghost movie that hit Thai cinemas this summer to great success. There's currently no news on an international release.

🎞️Death Is All Around | Saint Suppapong coming through with another spooky production - this one about death and the afterlife. This also has Seng Wichai, Bas Suradej and Dun Romchumpa (presumably as a couple).

The Hell Guards | Chains of Heart but make it spooky. Oh, I am so excited for this!

My Imaginary Boyfriend | Based on another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (my favourite, atually). This one is more grounded, and spooky in a more psychological sense.

Mystique in the Mirror | Another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (and psychological horror too, by the looks of it). This one started filming back in early summer so it should be airing soon.

Shadow | This series will air its first seven episodes on Halloween and that should tell you everything you need to know. It's a suspenseful (ghost?) story set in a Catholic private school.

Spirit Reborn | This has the potential to be very spooky, with curses and spirits and past lives.

SunsetxVibes | This is going to be messy and spicy but the short pilot trailer did have spooky undertones and possible spiritual themes.

The Whisperer | More psychological horror but this time not penned by Pat. Apparently, this has been in production for a while so hopefully we'll get some news soon.

Zomvivor | The only zombie series on this list has entered pre-production and is slated to be released in 2024 (hopefully before October). Will it have BL? I don't know, but it stars pretty much all of domundi's acting couples (and more).

1000 Years Old | Will it be spooky? No idea, but it does have vampires and sometimes that's enough.

Hey Lovelies. 30 days is a LONG time. I get that. I'm feeling it in my bones too. I want you to know it's totally normal if you are feeling frustrated, and exhausted, and just over all of this effort to get our show back.

It's okay to feel that way.

You don't need to be positive all the time, you're allowed to feel grief. I know we've grieved several times since the original announcement, but just like progress, grief isn't linear either.

It's going to come up again in waves, and hopefully those waves get smaller each time, but they will keep coming until we get our show back.

I say UNTIL WE GET OUR SHOW BACK, because despite my own frustrations, I don't really have any doubt that it will happen at this point, it's just a matter of when.

I'm not an expert, I just have a feeling, based on staring at every happening that's happened over the past 30 days.

So if you need to, go grieve lovelies! Get mad, get frustrated, scream, cry, it's normal and it's healthy. You deserve to let feelings those out.

You are human, and you are wonderful, and you can't be a ray of sunshine all the time (nor should you have to be).

And for those of you who aren't grieving, and instead feeling renewed excitement, that's absolutely wonderful too. Don't feel like you have to grieve if that's not where you're at! Every one of us has a personal journey through all of this, and not one of us will share the exact same experience, so remember not to judge your progress based on everyone else.

This info is largely copy-pasted from the venue websites, so I cannot guarantee it is up-to-date or complete. 

For assistive listening devices, venues that explicitly list that they will ask for collateral (usually in the form of an ID or credit card) are noted, however that doesn’t mean other venues don’t require collateral. In all cases where collateral is required, you’ll usually leave your ID or credit card with the Guest Services desk and then receive it back when you return the ALD at the end of the night. You should not be charged for using the device. 

Accessible or ADA seating may refer to seating areas for wheelchair users or guests with other mobility impairments, OR it may refer to seating areas for guests who have requested an ASL interpreter. Contact to the venue to confirm your choice.

I am also trying to finish a rough sensory guide based on previous tourdust shows before the second leg! This will include notes on lighting and strobe, pyro, sound effects, and other parts of the show that may be helpful to know about ahead of time for other people with sensory sensitivities, PTSD, etc.. I have no specific date for when this will be completed because I have 4 jobs and severe ADHD, but I’ll reblog this post and share whenever that’s completed.

On Navigating AO3

I've gotten what feels like the millionth comment about two issues, in particular, from people who are just starting to read on Ao3 but don't actually know how to navigate the site.

So, and know I am saying this with affection...

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, READ FIC INFORMATION! AND GO TO AUTHOR PAGES, I AM BEGGING YOU!

To start off, this box is the first thing on the page when you open a fic, and it feels like so many new users just skip over it despite its importance:

This lets you know the fic's age rating, archive warnings, the types of relationships within the fic, the fandom, the relationships, the characters, additional tags, language, if it's a part of a series or not, and the stats. You are doing fics a disservice by reading them without this information.

PS: & is for platonic and / is for romantic.

However, Ao3 sometimes misrepresents what part of a series a fic is in, so I am begging people to please just click into a series if they feel they are missing some context.

Ao3 is littered with spaces for information, so don't think we're finished just yet. Below the title is the summary (fic description) and note area which will include the beginning notes or will let you know if there are notes at the bottom of the fic (both written by the author), all of which can give extra context:

Also, at the bottom of a fic that is a part of a series, there are two links, one to the previous fic and another to the series. The part number is also more accurate. Please use them:

It drives me up the wall how "previous work" is right there, and so many people don't click on it but go to comment about how confused they are anyway.

I know no one means any harm but, as a fic writer, it is exhausting to have to deal with people complaining my fics "make no sense" when they put no effort into understanding the actual context, or sometimes anything about the fic.

Another thing that is exhausting? Getting comments that are the equivalent of "I really hope you write more for this fandom! I love how you write the characters, I wish I could read more of it from you," when I have multiple other fics for that fandom. So, let's look back at that fic title, shall we? Right below it is the author name, and it's a link:

If you want to see more works by that author, you can click on their author name (in this case, All_Nightmares_Start_As_Dreams) to look through their profile. One of the first things you will encounter is their fandom list and, by clicking on fandoms, you can see their other works for that fandom. On the list, it will also put how many fics they have for that fandom next to its name:

Yes, I do get this comment about Lackadaisy fics despite having written 147 of them lol.

Now, you might not be able to see someone's full catalogue of fics because they have some fics locked, meaning only registered users can view them. Personally? I have some of my fics locked for this reason. Guest commenters tend to not only not understand how to use the site, but ignore the information laid out in front of them. I have some series I am very dedicated to writing and, quite frankly, I do not have the energy to constantly explain to guest commenters the set of series I've raveled myself in lol. Please prove me wrong, start using your tools!

But also...please just register for an account. You can still keep using Ao3 as a guest while you wait to get your email with the invite, but at least, eventually, you will have an account. This will help you start using Ao3 more and understanding how it all works so you can more properly follow your favorite writers and save your favorite fics. You can even start posting for yourself, yay! It's free, and you'll get access to more fics, you have nothing to lose.

registration;

We utilize author accounts as a way to enable a character census for plotting. It will be the first you register using your intended on-site alias, in lowercase. This will host all of your character accounts as subaccounts and be utilized for any out of character posts.

Duplicate aliases are not allowed to help avoid confusion and due to our use of the member list, however we do allow similar aliases with discernible differences - i.e. Regina vs Gina. Refer to our member list before registering to ensure there are no duplicate aliases in play.

After registering your author account, upgrade its member group by purchasing and activating the 'author account upgrade' in our site store.

Character accounts are registered first and last name in all lowercase, according to applicable naming customs. We recommend signing up your character with how they would introduce themselves, rather than a legal first name they may not use - i.e. if your character is named Sebastian, but has only ever gone by Ian, sign them up as Ian.

We do not allow duplicate given names, although spelling variations up to two per name are allowed, i.e. Ashley and Ashleigh. Characters with the same surname must be related unless duplicated due to cultural norms. Be sure to check our member list when registering to avoid confusion.

All name changes can be made under your control panel and do not require admin approval.

We ask that you be conscientious of symbols, unique characters, or unicodes in all account names due to Jcink's award and tagging system. If culturally necessary, please feel free to use them, but do so at your own risk due to the utilization of this system.

portrayals;

All face claims must be 18 years of age or older, which extends to all pictures, gifs, and graphics, which must be from when they were 18+.

We use the 5 +/- rule. If your character is 27 then their face claim must be between the ages of 22 and 32.

For characters over the age of 50, we allow for the use of the 7 +/- rule - i.e. if a character is 57 their face claim can vary between 50 - 64.

Face claims must have a verifiable level of fame, such as:

instagram verification

have 250k+ instagram followers

be signed with a reputable modeling agency

have an IMDb page

We do not allow face claims who meet any of the following criteria:

deceased

adult film stars

anyone that has asked not to be used

anyone facing an accusation of or who has been convicted of abuse, sexual or domestic violence, and/or related crimes.

Regarding nonbinary and trans characters, we allow the use of cis face claims in their portrayal, however we do not allow the reverse in the case of nonbinary face claims.

There is a maximum cap of five identical characters utilizing the same face claim, all of which must be biologically related, as we do not allow doppelganger plots.

We do not allow whitewashing or racebending. Characters must ethnically match their face claims and families should ethnically match each other, unless alternative relation has been established in character, i.e. adoption or foster family.

If you have any questions regarding face claim usability, or notice a character that is not meeting one of these requirements, create a ticket within our Discord.

Respect is our golden rule - respect your fellow members, staff, and guests alike. We have a zero tolerance policy for bullying, harassment, or hate speech. If you are experiencing or have witnessed any of the sort on site please reach out to our team via a Discord ticket.

For any general issues that arise between members, we ask you remain civil on-site and in our Discord, and to try to find resolutions independently before involving the staff team. If mediation is needed, we will work to assist through our ticketing system.

Writing should always be collaborative, fair, and enjoyable for those involved, meaning everyone must follow basic rules of roleplaying: no godmodding, metagaming, or powerplaying. Separate in character and out of character knowledge, keep personal feelings and frustrations out of in character interactions, and obtain player consent for major actions affecting others’ characters.

Our Discord server is mandatory for all members, as it is our main outreach method for site updates, application acceptance, absence notifications, and more. If a member leaves our server at any time, it will be treated as a notice of inactivity, and they will be given a 48 hour grace period to rejoin the server before we inactivate on site accounts. If for any reason you need a break from the server, we ask you to reach out to the staff team to notify us, and we will treat it as a temporary absence.

When taking a request, be sure to reach out to the requester(s) for approval prior to submitting your application. As a requester, please add any reaction to the app post in our Discord to approve. If within 24 hours of an application submission a requester has not reacted to or opened a ticket to discuss the application, we will move forward with our typical approval process as if it were not for a request.

Staff will always take fault for any pending applications - requested character or otherwise. If your application has been submitted and your fc reserve runs out, your reservation is automatically saved until we have had time to approve it.

Our team is always open to questions and suggestions, via Discord in our Q-and-A channel or ticket system. Please utilize these methods instead of reaching out to staff members individually for any site related issues, so we are able to assist you.

activity & content;

We are a mature Jcink premium site with a 3-3-3 rating. We allow characters, plots, and themes with mature subject matter. Due to this, we require our member base to be 18 years of age or older in its entirety, which extends to personal photos shared in our Discord.

Despite our rating, we do not allow the following to have explicit descriptions detailed on site:

incest

pedophilia

murder

perpetuation of real life bigotries (racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc)

graphic sexual assault

ongoing real life wars and major political issues

You are able to allude to these in character histories, and have characters that experience the after effects of these issues (i.e. ptsd), but they are unable to be played out in great detail on site.

COVID-19 does not exist in this universe and should not be played out or alluded to anywhere on site.

Other than the above, we do not have any bans or limitations on other plots at this time.

All potentially triggering or mature material must be marked with the appropriate tag, [tw] and/or [m], with a brief explanation at the top of the first post. We ask that all members choose their consumption and, with that, their level of comfort by being aware of these tags. If you notice a tag missing, please notify staff via a Discord ticket.

There is no word count - you are able to write as much or as little as you’d like - so long as you are meeting activity requirements. We've included role-giving questions in our Discord server, as well as space in our on-site author accounts, that act as jumping off points for discussions on writing styles, preferences, and activity levels with your writing partners to help avoid compatibility issues.

Our baseline for activity is one in character thread post every 14 days - communication threads and one liners do not count. Staff will review accounts on the 1st and 15th of each month, and do not archive character accounts outside of this period by member request for interest in a specific face claim.

If your character was approved within the last activity window, they will not be counted for activity - i.e. if your character is accepted on the 3rd, it will not be counted in the sweep on the 15th of that month, but on the following month's 1st sweep.

If a character account goes inactive, a notice will be sent to their author account, and given a 48 hour grace period before sorted into the inactive member group and claims are removed. In order to reactivate, you will need to make a thread post and submit the link through our request staff help form in our guidebook.

For in progress character accounts that are caught in a sweep and older than 14 days, a check-in message will be sent to verify the character is still being actively worked on. Profiles in our inactive member group are still able to be edited, however it will hide the account from our member list, allowing the name to be up for grabs until your application has been submitted.

Absences are posted and updated through our Discord, and come with a specialty absence role, so others know you may be slow to respond. If you have an absence longer than 2 weeks, or one activity sweep period, we ask that you create a ticket to keep us up to date. If multiple back to back absences are keeping characters safe during sweeps, a member of staff may reach out to touch base.

Threads and comms without 1 month of activity will be archived. If you need a thread moved out of the archives, utilize the request staff help form in our guidebook.

Requests are able to be bumped once every 7 days, both on site and within our Discord.

We currently have no limit as to how many characters you can have, as we expect everyone to be mindful of their own limitations. Your first 10 characters are free, and any beyond must be purchased from our points shop.

aesthetics;

All images automatically resize, and those with square dimensions may be GIFs if desired, but all others must be still images to account for site load time. We have a graphics help channel in Discord should you need any assistance.

Our profiles require the following for acceptance:

One 250px by 400px still image

Two 100px by 100px images

One 150px by 150px image to be an uploaded avatar (max 1024 kb size)

In addition to the above, our profiles include up to two optional 200px by 250px still images.

We ask that you keep all profile graphics - both on character and author accounts - safe for work, and ensure all include people over the age of 18.

Outside coding is not allowed, but should you feel something is missing in our code bank, feel free to offer suggestions.
