Woke up at 5 am Saturday morning in pure excitement to find out the gender of my wife and I’s baby. (Its a boy! 💙) Knowing it was going to a long day I thought it was smart to do a 45 minute stretch routine. Here’s the first few minutes and my “go-to” beginner #stretches: - #SingleLegStretch- One leg in, one leg out. Keep one straight leg locked, the other bent either foot lined up next to thigh. Reach straight down with two hands to focus on #hamstrings. As you see I work my way reaching from the inside of my foot to the outer ridge. This is to target all of my specific areas of #tightness. Then switch legs. - #ButterflyStretch- Feet together, back straight, breath into the stretch and go as deep as you can. - #FrogStretch- Targeted for the groin and hips. Open your knees as far as they can go, spread open your feet to line up with your knees and sink into the stretch trying to sit your butt to the floor. For a deeper stretch drop to your elbows. * Bonus use this as an opportunity for a quick #neckstretch! I circle my neck a few times in a circle, then in the opposite direction. Look all the way left then right, up then down. - #ChildsPose or as some #martialarts styles call it #CatStretch- knees together #stretch your arms straight out as far as you can, and relax back into your feet. Here’s a series of clips, which focus 🔎 on improving hip external rotation (ER) mobility ✔️. Using concepts from FRC system: lift-offs and end-range holds ✔️. FRC should not be missing in your training 💯.

🎯First: lying supine and performing a hip ER lift off. Key is to maintain tension thru the "kinstretch" block throughout the lift off. Next, increasing the range of the lift off by increasing hip flexion (with support of opposite leg/box) and performing the same lift off, however, in a different range.

🎯Next, changing position: Hip 90-90 position and performing same concept as above. Increasing the demands of the lift off by being more upright and using necessary props (e.g. Block) to irradiate/maintain tension.

🎯Finishing with Hip ER end-range holds. Bringing myself into my limits of passive external rotation and HOLDING the position to improve active control of the range ✔️

Day 68: FROG STRETCH. Begin on knees that are fully bent and feet together beneath the buttocks. Open the knees into a "V" shape and slowly walk your arms and torso forward. The forearms rest at a 90-degree angle while supporting the torso. HOW TO:
If your technique is shit, you can bet your ass your body will find ways to compensate/adapt to the dysfunctional movement. To resolve this and squat better, focus on the following tips:
🔹Find your point of true ‘balance’ - shift your body forwards & backwards, sensing how your feet and ankles adapt to the transfer of weight.
🔹After a few repetitions, you will feel your center of gravity set between your forefoot and heel.
🔹As you sit in your deep squat (depth varies between individuals), focus on feeling your glutes, hamstrings and quads turn on to hold you in that static position - Efficient muscle utilization = less shear stress on your joints.
⚠️Ensure you have adequate ankle flexibility/mobility prior to going ‘deep’. _______________________________________________________

💎Working on thoracic spine rotation is sometimes overlooked when trying to decrease you mid back tightness.

👉🏽The middle part of your spine doesn’t have as much motion naturally as your neck and low back, but all 12 vertebrae together should be able to “extend” and rotate a fair amount. —
🔑If you have tried gaining thoracic extension with things like a foam roll but still feel like your T-Spine is stiff, try working on rotation of your mid back!

✅One thing I like about this drill is that you are actively pulling into thoracic rotation against the resistance of the band.
