Yeah yeah TNT trap but one bit of the stream that absolutely fascinated me was the neighbours solidarity between Ren Iskall and Beef. Ren and Beef freaking out over Iskall running back and targeting False if they ever let sight of him. Ren's brain having dived into a "it's us against them" mentality and being anxious around the mountain people because of course he does that, it’s his favourite hermit’s life on the line. Of course he would see as some sort of war even though nothing happened. Ren naming their voice chat group something boring and nondescript like “neighbourhood planning” so no one would join. He’s both still Ministering and keeping up with the theatrics by pretending to be in a so painfully boring meeting. Neighbourhood mafia boys trying to kill Bdubs (for False). Iskall being like lmao you guys are stupid. Lol. Anyways.

And it was so funny how when the trap was done, they were like ahhaha lol see you guys later. Or never. We never knew each other.

AND THEN BDUBS LOGGED ON.

Which naturally freaked everyone out. And what was fucking funny is that other people like Grian, Joe, and Hypno were online and aware of the scheme. They even made references to it in chat. Grian and Joe at least were watching Ren’s stream, because of course he was streaming a top secret operation (and Beef later was like WHY ARE YOU EVEN STREAMING and Ren was like 🥺 this is why I’m a bad reaper). But I don’t think anyone snitched. Everyone acted normal, if not nosy.

The part of the stream that charmed me and gave everyone the impression of “oh, we’re REALLY in it now” was when Ren was alone in his Gigahut and someone whispered to him about Bdubs being on. And those three neighbourhood members met up in Ren’s hut and just sat there panicking and talking about Bdubs. It was so tense. They were the image of three scared whimpering people huddled together on a sofa in the relative safety of their neighbourhood (far away from Bdubs’ trap). (On a side note, I’m always glad when builds are somehow the backdrop for dramatic and tense moments because the build instantly feels lived in and the space feels used. Like there’s a core memory attached to the build now.)

And in the end, they decided to venture out to spy on Bdubs. Which they did for an hour. With spyglasses and crouching. And Ren, good old Ren, was pushed centerstage because he was the second reaper to ever exist and still hadn’t gotten a kill AND he was dead set on supporting his False, and since it was the final two, Bdubs has to go.

Watching the hermitchat go by while those three were intensely studying Bdubs like a nature documentary was hilarious. Seemingly nondescript discussions. The trio panicking and then Grian sent out “have faith”, which might be in reference to G’s own fishing thing but the trio took it as a double message for their own plan (since G was watching the stream). All the whispering. It’s killing me. And False logging on, mostly unprotected (because they were all away!!) and Cleo being like yayy I have no allegiance to False I’ll blow up whatever <3 And False saying she needed a miracle and those three were like WE ARE TRYINGGG (False was aware the three were trapping). Ren’s refusal to say something in chat because he’s a red name and he’s tense.

Ren had to be the one to activate the trap (even though Beef was the one who suggested it and Iskall laid out the redstone). SO the other two had to leave him alone while they engaged Bdubs in discussion so Ren could sneak in and blow them up. Our poor reaper had to fly solo with 2.9k people on his stream. “It’s just you and me, chat”. He’s sat there for three hours. He’s missing dinner.

AND BEEF YELLING AT REN TO ACTIVATE THE TRAP WAS SO STRESSFUL. Even when the ruse was up, and even when Beef and Iskall were like hahaha Ren you SUCK so bad, Ren continued with his last shred of hope and absolute last shred of dignity. He lied. And Beef was probably like 👀 Ren hasn’t given up yet! Gotta distract Bdubs more!

I haven’t watched much Beef before this but now I’m quite charmed with him. He’s great with improv, fucking hilarious to bounce off with, and kept calm and steady throughout the operation. I love how him and Iskall had to hold Ren back from charging in like a madman and blowing himself up because doggy self sacrificial tendencies. Beef was the brains and common sense. And I love how supportive he was of Ren the entire time.

Was seized by the supernatural urge to redraw some of my old nkotr art (mostly based on my own fics/aus because that's uhh pretty much the only time I drew them in an interesting way heheh)

Hardy Days

January is a month that takes some time to break into like brand new shoes. It always feels longer than it is. It has been a while since I’ve been online properly though for the best reasons. My days have been full. My desk succumbs to entropy just as soon as I’ve tidied it up, my planner is abundant with marks, overflowing with tasks in constant flux. But that just means my hours are well consumed. My days feel very lived in and I’m endlessly thankful for that.

It hasn’t been all work though! I managed to read 4 books so far this month, two of which I would like to mention here. The first book I read is Before We Say Goodbye, which is the fourth book in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold Series by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I think the fourth one is my favorite so far, if not a close second to the first book. This one made me cry so hard it felt like a cardio exercise haha. The fifth book hasn’t been translated yet and I’m too impatient so I went ahead and started it in Japanese. I was just telling a pal how much comfier it is in the original language. I think I will reread the previous books in Japanese as well once I can get ahold of it from Kinokuniya. I’m so excited!

Another book I finished recently is Voices of the Dead by Ambrose Parry. It’s a historical fiction medical/crime novel set in Victorian Edinburgh. It also has hints of angsty romance between the two main characters, and if you know me at all, you know angst is my fuel, my reason for being lmao. But on top of the already very attractive premise, I must say the pervasive question of “am I what I come from or am I what I can become” throughout all the books is such a robust subject that I can never get enough of. I really enjoyed it! Ah, but now I’ve got to wait for the next book (if there is one). I’m pretty hopeful because the ending was set up for a continuation for sure, but you never know. Also, can I just complain about something extremely petty? Why is the fourth book’s spine different from the rest of the series? It’s from the same publisher, the same font is used. But why is the symbol not the same size as the other volumes’ symbols? WHY. Why would they make it not line up properly like that? I’m losing my mind!!

Now, I’m not one for redecorating just because it’s a new year, but I did change up my vinyl corner by switching out the old art with two posters in matching red—one from a Mitski concert way back in 2017, and one poster of Billie Marten’s 2023 album. Two very different eras of my life coming together. Quite poetic now that I think about it.

While on the subject of music, I’ve had Marika Hackman’s new album “Big Sigh” on repeat since it came out. Oh my god it’s so so good. I remember thinking when I first heard it, god, this is like having my guts pulled out of me. The lyrics are so raw I felt like my chest was going to cave in. Even the music conveys such angst and self-sabotage. The one song that struck me the most is the penultimate song called “Please Don’t Be So Kind.” That one really spoke to me. I love it so much I figured out the guitar chords by ear because I badly wanted to play it. (It’s just three chords in slightly different arrangements throughout the song: C/G-D/A-Em7/B. Half-step up tuning or more conveniently with capo on the 1st fret). I haven’t stopped thinking about the album and I don’t think I will ever stop doing so. I feel that my life is made richer by having listened to this body of work. Even though it’s rather depressing, I actually relish that about it. I think I’m at an age now where I can clearly see my emotion outside my body. It’s a place I can visit as I please. I can work through my feelings and then when I’ve done my best with it, I can leave it be. I can experience things as deeply as I want to while having the confidence that I won’t lose myself in it. It’s a very freeing sense of clarity.

Also, this is from a while back now but I got the newest volume of the coffee magazine I’m subscribed to and the coffee sampler they sent for the quarter is stellar. It tasted of peach and orange, it was insane. The sampler had enough for only two espresso double shots but it made such an impact I just have to note it down here. The roaster, A Matter of Concrete, is based in Rotterdam. I might have to pop in there to try more of their coffee one of these days. Oh, but this reminds me that my grinders are due for a cleaning. Right, I’ll have to do that sometime tomorrow. And I’m not looking forward to it because I’m always anxious I’ll fuck up the burrs or put the grinders back all wrong. Also, looking at this photo, I have to polish my espresso machine, don’t I? Oops.

What else have I been up to? I’ve recently reconnected with my best friend from my undergraduate days and it has been such a blessing. We didn’t have a fight or anything. We just drifted apart because I moved away for my MA and they went back home for a job offer. But they reached out to let me know they’ll be moving to Europe to start a second degree and a career change!! Which means we will be able to see each other again!! Oh, I’m looking forward to that so much I’m counting the days. I have such fond memories of them I can’t wait to bear hug the hell out of them haha.

I also finally decided to finish a writing project I have left alone to stew in its own unfinished mess for far too long lol. I forced myself to churn as much words as I could, and then the arduous task of negotiating what to keep, what to expand and what to cut came soon after. I’ve since finished it and I’m relieved to have concluded that story. I’m quite satisfied with the arc. It felt like a good study of how I write, what I want from a story and how I can achieve it. Writing is a process of self discovery and I’m always overwhelmed by that feeling when it’s happening in real time. Like you feel minute parts of yourself shifting into new positions, light shed in previously dark corners. It’s overwhelming and terrifying, yet tranquil and natural at the same time. I look forward to whatever I’ll find in the next writing project.

Anyway, I’m off to do a bit of translation work. It has been quite an eventful Friday for me over here, and my weekend is looking like it will be just as busy. How has your January been? I'm doing a big roleplaying game week in my Discord Server! I hardly ever cross over anything professional here, but figured some of my mutuals might want to join in a game or two! ALL TIMES ARE PACIFIC TIME.

Danse macabre is here because i was describing their dynamic as "some sort of 'danse macabre'" because this tone poem (i looked it up in Wikipedia lmao) was getting recommended to me the whole time and i guess the name of it really got into my head (oooh dance, ooooh of death). The fun part of it, i haven't even listened to it until after 7th session, so i was very pleasantly surprised to hear that it actually fits (here my criteria was "can i daydream about an animatic with this song?" and yes, i could (basically, the pacing and the vibe of the Danse macabre fit the story))

The Front Bottoms - Be Nice To Me & Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man: so, these two are grouped together. Why? Because when talking about my boys I'm mostly looking at first verses (well basically everything before second verses) of each (as you could see in my little spreadsheet, Be Nice To Me is applied to Mumbo (theres also an animatic (clickable) i found, it basically shows what i mean here) and Little Lion Man is applied to Grian). But hey, what about the second verses? Well, it's just theres another LL duo these two songs fit very well (Ethubs. I'm talking about Ethubs. Be Nice To Me - Bdubs, Little Lion Man - Etho). This makes sense in my head and i needed to explain my vision and it does go deeper than that.

A Needle Into A Bug

Part One- Set Snare and Skin

Hi everyone! First fic posted on tumblr instead of just Ao3 (yes this will be cross-posted), feeling a lil nervous about grammatical errors and formatting, so I might go back and edit it a little bit after the fact. I welcome feedback in the form of messages, asks, tag commentary, replies or comments. 

Rated M, this one isn’t the fun kind though, tbh this one is likely going to be a lot to process as I plan on touching on some heavy heavy themes. Cw Warnings include// depictions of death, lowkey psychological horror, waxing prose. I am ask to tag, just let me know the format. 

This is a multi part series, which I plan to be about three total chapters, but that might change. This chapter is 1.4k words. I do not have a posting schedule or timeline. 

Characters include General Grievous and my clone oc’s Private Tar (He/Him) and Corporal Mellie (She/Her) (ranks are just at this time). 

General Grievous the Head Clanker of the CIS Army- 

Ares Nune is an odious piece of Jedi scum and he and his three Venators will soon be scrapped. Though it might be closer to squishing bugs, the stupid meat bags. The power of the CSI is mighty and it will be wielded to devastating effects, the Malevolence a jagged tooth against the backdrop of the red, red star. Its ion cannons are a crippling inescapable disk and Grievous can't wait to try them out. It allows the prey to be hunted and there is nowhere for the tin can escape pods to go. He revels in death and his ability to deal it out.

Nune’s lightsaber will make an easy trophy. Grievous wonders how it will fit in his hands, his clawed prehensile feet? What color would it be? Plenty of greens and blues, but a yellow would hold a special place and have a special pocket. Grievous sweeps onto the bridge, pneumatic doors hissing and his clawed feet scraping the floor with a hideous sound. There's a B-1 standing guard at the door, he startles and nearly drops his blaster. “Status update, droid”, he orders, voice a snarl through a metal faceplate. His hunched posture and staring eyes fit the rasp of his damaged voice. Several other droids startle to attention.

“Uhhh.”

“In position Sir!”

“Ion Cannon's online Sir”

 “Can I be promoted, Sir?” Grievous ignores this, for now.

 “Scanners are picking up three Republic Venators, Sir."

The ship rounds the moon and there’s their target. Three ships in a triangle formation, so perfectly unaware they’ve just stepped into the deep end of a predator's pool. Grievous knows they're scanning the area for a “Mysterious weapon” and his master finds humor in this. It is just Grievous and a new ship. They would die if it were just Grievous, never mind the ship. Sixteen engines fire and work in tandem to maneuver them as close as possible. It seems they've caught Nune and his clone Commander unawares. Stupid Jedi.

 “Fire the ion cannon.” snarls Grievous. There's a whine, a blast, and then a pulse. The disc passes through everything in its path, shorting out and frying every little wire keeping the cruisers online. It is immediately followed by the three ships keeling over. An organic could imagine the groaning defeat of a destabilized ship. The average droid just becomes affected by the zero-g with no imagination needed.

If Grievous could sense their panic, he’d feel it now, but he can only imagine it. Perks of being a mostly cybernetic being, you tend to lose certain senses.  In his mind it tastes sweet like fear. “Fire turbo laser batteries, I want them shredded and helpless.” And so the ships are made shredded and helpless. Plenty of screaming metal, explosions and flying shrapnel to make anyone on this side of the galaxy happy. General Nunes Laudable becomes an empty husk of a nest within only a few minutes and the shells of clones drift like dead bugs in poisoned sweetwater. The Malevolence leaves soon after, resetting the snare. It's a gloriously efficient trap. After the Droch-Class boarding ships are returned to their hanger, Grievous finds that his cloak weighs just a little more and he still has his ability to be very pleased, a fine new addition to his collection.  Mellie & Tar, The Poor Troopers in Charge of Scavenging Battlefields- 

Tar isn't a huge fan of this assignment, there’s something uniquely depressing about it. Go to the dead battle site and recover bodies, info, and salvage and have fun soldier. Sir, Yes, Sir. For the Republic. Gather dutifully the torn apart. He knows the Separatists do this with the destroyed chassis of the clankers- just to melt and pour them back into molds. The universe is funny like that. “Dropping into real space in teth minus 5, 4, 3, 2…” The bridge captain’s voice runs over the intercom. Tar and Meille are already prepped and ready to go, for the most part, to go on their space walk. Milling about the prep area in the bay are several other duos. Clone instinct to always be ready and always on time, he thinks with humor. 

The frigate hums out of hyperspace. The wreckage looms, grayish and scored badly. It is a gutted corpse ready to be picked apart by a state-sanctioned scavenger. Chatter said that this loss was due to a new Separatist weapon. They were to pick apart what remains and put it together into the shape of an answer. Easier said than done, some might say, but really Tar could compartmentalize and think of this as routine. Merciful even, that this was a deserted and therefore fairly safe battlefield where his Vod could be witnessed marching away.

Prioritizing an intel grab meant they started around the remains of the bridge, hoping to catch code from shredded servers. Sure they could look for larger tower-type servers that stored the massive amounts of data a ship the size of a city would generate, but the bridge servers would have the most recent, and most relevant, to figuring out just what had happened. The probe droids come back from the first sweep marking bodies they had found, terminals they could try and crack. Reporting a lack of clanker of activity fulfills the superstition, but still stepping into the airlock feels final. “Just me or does this one feel a bit off?”, mutters Tar over the in-helmet comms. 

“Maker, you didn’t have to say it out loud, but yeah I guess” she gripes back. She rubs a thumb down a marking on her thigh plate and Tar squares his shoulders. The door gives a faint hiss as it depressurizes. The slowly enveloping feeling of complete weightlessness always gives Tar a bit of a thrill. Click-Click-Click and the exterior door unlocks. The empty maw of deep space is dense and tall in front of them. Mellie takes point, guiding the pod between them. One hand on the pod and the other on their respective blaster ‘s grip, they wander into what remains of the Laudable’s bridge. Kuat Drive Yard strong. 

In his peripherals, Tar can see five other groups branch off into different directions on their assigned pathways. Most will go for the tech but he sees another pod duo. What's the difference between a pod and a tube? Meillie takes them on a winding way, a way that dims as they head for a secluded corner the droid marked as a point of interest. 

There are no secondary lights, no active electrical currents to light their way or avoid. The ship is dead and only two things in it are not. The two have only their headlamps, to illuminate the path, as they move further from the floodlights of the frigate. The chill seeps beneath Tar’s skin and he can’t help but notice that it's somehow eerily still even as debris floats around in lazy currents. The cold holds tight, no residual blaster plasma to warm them. You can't feel cold in space if your suits are properly insulated, but it's in his bones and holds tighter. 

The cadavers float in a line, and it's a perfect line of ranking officers. All of them are completely still, not that bodies move, just that things tend to wander around in space.  Someone's laid them out in a horizontal orientation to the floor of the ship, as if they knew there would be someone here later. General Nune is at the beginning of the line followed by Commander Kite. Tar can make out a few captains and even a sergeant. Are the other ships like this one? Will deck officers and pit crews be found neatly lined up for their convenience? These officers died cleanly, all limbs still attached, Nune Jedi neat in appearance. There’s a distinct lack of blood-ice and shrapnel. This area was cleaned. 

Mellie won’t lie, this has spooked her and it’s telling Tar agrees to the, maybe, overkill of individually scanning each corpse for contaminants. What follows is the rest of their trained forensics work. Pictures, details of how the bodies were found, Maker the reports to be made. Mellie wasn’t looking forward to the rest of her shift at all. She hails the Captain in charge of the Op, “ Corporal Mellie here, need an additional ten pods prepped, this ones fucking weird enough I think that all of- of the bodies should be processed.” 

Mellie and Tar look at each other and then get to work. Everyday is a long day.

Vi avevo già menzionato l’Anime NYC nel precedente articolo con il nuovo trailer di “TRIGUN STAMPEDE”, quindi già sapevo che sarebbe arrivato il panel di Crunchyroll con le relative novità simulcast per il 2023, ma... c’è una regola non scritta del blog: se io sto male o sono fuori casa, gli annunci devono coincidere con quella precisa data. Conferma che davo per scontata, ma oggigiorno con la compravendita delle licenze non si può mai essere troppo sicuri di nulla. Sono felice di sapere che anche la seconda stagione di questo interessante fantasy drama, andrà ad affiancare le due precedenti miniserie OAV e i primi 24 episodi della serie animata, che già si trovano nel catalogo della piattaforma.

Le nuove puntate dell’anime, tratto dal popolare manga di Kore Yamazaki, edito in Italia da Star Comics, adatteranno l’arco narrativo del College.
