hi gal!! let's see what we have for number 20 baybeeeeeeeeee!

heeeeeell yeah babey! fpc sweep again. It's so bad in here. I really like them. what can I say :3 take a bunch of silly thoughts about those silly little knights we've all been talking about! (751 words)

Hallow folds his arms, adjusting the cloak thrown over his head. Without the protective layer of armor, there’s nothing to prevent him from being burned alive by the sun still shining through the trees. Aside from, that is, the tree itself, which he rests precariously against for that exact reason. To his left, the great, fluffy head of Marthe rests, balanced on her paws. She’s half curled around Lerin’s hip, and from the way Lerin tilts his head ever so, it’s clear that he’s listening rather than watching, as he does. Though there isn’t much to watch, if Hallow is honest with himself.

Camp is slow. Today isn’t much different than the last day, or the day before it. The downtime was welcome. And it meant that Hallow was spending more time letting himself rest, which, there. Now Albion couldn’t get onto him.

In the scuff-pocked, stone-circled ring they’d created on the first night, Eleo draws careful swings with the delicately powerful longsword he normally carries at his hip. His face is pinched in concentration, jaw set in a familiarly determined line. 

“‘Eleios,” Hallow says. Eleo startles, but doesn’t flinch. Instead, he turns, blinking owlishly before his expression shifts and sets into something curious. He raises his eyebrows. “Any interest in working with Marthe, today?”

Marthe lifts her head, but settles as soon as Lerin’s hand reaches over to pet down her ears. She side-eyes Hallow as much as is possible from a shepherding dog and relaxes. Eleo visibly tenses at the suggestion. He doesn’t look nervous, but his shoulders stiffen in a way that suggests his apprehension clear as day. For a moment, Hallow wonders if it's a gut reaction, or genuine unease, before Eleos’ mouth twists this way and that, and he sheaths his lowered sword.

“Do you think it’s a good idea?” he asks.

Hallow shrugs lightly.

“She’s taken a liking to you,” he says. “More than most of the others. She takes commands from you. But if you want her to fight with you, she needs to know how you fight.”

“Right,” Eleo says, furrowing his eyebrows.

Hallow frowns too, tilting his head ever so slightly.

“You don’t trust me?”

Eleo blinks. If he pales, it’s not visible on his face, given his already gaunt complexion.

“I’m not sure if I trust myself,” he says, his tone still bordering the edge of apprehensiveness. “I know that Marthe is fine with me, but I don’t… want anything to happen. Is all.”

The way Eleo’s voice halts and strains is different from the usual lingering uncertainty Hallow was used to dealing with. It wasn’t that Eleo necessarily doubted his strength, dexterity, or skill with a weapon. When given the chance to fight, he was quick, and powerful enough to handle the force of his double-edged longsword better than many knights Hallow had taught himself. When the interactions turned interpersonal, for training, for scouting, for interacting with Marthe, Eleo turned inward, rather than out. It was a rapidly increasing strength, but the doubt crept in regardless. 

Besides, it wasn’t necessarily Hallow’s job to fix that particular problem. Nor did he want to step on any toes, as it were. What Eleo protected was his own set of oaths to fiddle with. Hallow didn’t need to know the inner workings of his mind to lend a hand every now and again. He kept his careful eye on him, though, just in case.

Hallow shrugs again, with the same casual lift and lilt. Eleo relaxes more.

“Brave of you to think that Marthe will let you hurt her,” he says, smiling. “She’s been watching this whole time, you know.”

Eleo snorts, lets a smile worm onto his face as he furrows his eyebrows.

“Marthe is smart enough to be studying my shadow-boxing?” he asks, folding his arms. His armor clanks together at the wrists and across his breastplate, where chainmail and gambeson sit.

“Don’t discount a shepherd’s intelligence, now, Heleios,” Hallow hums. He reaches over, ruffling the dog’s large ears with a gloved hand. Marthe leans into the scratching at her ears with a huff. She shakes her head as he draws away, stretching her fluffy black body as she stands. Eleo whistles as she stands for a moment to watch him and she trots over to his side. 

“I won’t,” he says as she sniffs at his hands, at the sword on his hip, like she’s studying him. She sits at his side as he draws the blade again.

Hallow leans back against the tree.

A. No, we do not. While the Mixbook calendar does cost money, none of it goes to the organizers or artists. It only goes to the printers to acquire the physical copy.

A. The calendar images are 12”x12”, and the full calendar is 12”x24”. 

Q. What is the price of the physical calendar? 

A. The final price naturally depends on shipping, but the base cost of the calendar right 

now is $44.99. However, Mixbook may have coupons available to make your order cheaper. 

Q. How is the quality of the physical calendar?

A. It’s great! The calendar itself is made of sturdy matte paper. The image quality is fantastic, the covers lovely, and the calendar itself is sturdy and well-constructed.

IT'S DONE I never thought I would finish this. This is the culmination of about five months of work and a tribute to how much I loved Gem's inclusion in the life series! She's my favoritest little guy as you can probably tell.

This was done as part of the @multidimensionbb 's WIP purge event. A crazy grind but I'm so glad to have had that extra drive to finish this~! Thanks y'all!

fic writer ask #29: "how easy is it coming up with titles" from ya gal, Gal! :] (because I gotta admit, the titles are the hardest part of writing for me akljhsfklahjfs)

29. How easy is it coming up with titles? (x)

GIRL. literally. I think I struggle the most with titles and will flip-flop between them while I'm writing to find one that sticks (like for Stretching Endless Night). a lot of the time I reference lyrics or songs (Hot Tea, Night Swims, Let's Talk About Feelings, Ok Ok?, etc) or whole short stories (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, A Memory Called Empire -> A Moment Called Forever). I think the best way to come up with a title (for myself) is to either find a reference in or out of the story and use that, or if I'm suddenly hit with a title for a fic I'll jot it down (those random rare moments).

but yeah. It's probably the worst part. Aside from descriptions because how do I susinctly and INTERESTINGLY describe a fic. fawk. It's really hard it's okay gal
