in my pinned post you'll find a link titled "my art tag" that will take you directly to a number of posts that i actually put effort into. you will also find a link to a sonic the hedgehog zine about team dark that i spent months on. clicking on either of these links and looking at my art will reward you with uhhh me thinking you're a pretty cool person tee hee thanks :]
im not gonna do anything if u don't look at my art i just. am slightly bitter that one of my most popular posts now is just a shitty doodle of my sona. ok thanks good night tristate area

It’ll feel cold and heavy, and bark at your touch,
It’ll plant a kiss on your forehead wet with heat,
It’ll hold you at night and lay you to sleep,
It’ll paint reds and yellow and purples and fears,
It’s a stranger, it’s a ghost, it’s a lover, it’s a killer,
They only say the name in whispers and lies
IT’S A GUN IT’S A GUN IT’S A GUN
DEADLY WEAPONS LIVE ON ITCH
The new TTRPG from myself and @sublimemarch is out now! Deadly Weapons is a game about power, gender, trauma, desire, and hope. It is set in an urban fantasy world very similar to our own, but where underneath the surface Demons prowl and Avatars hunt. Players will create these Avatars, girls who one day had a gun arrive in their possession. A gun that cries in their dreams and never leaves their side. A gun which whispers in their ear that they must hunt and kill Demons. Demons are all around the Avatars, existing as classmates, bosses, or even romantic interests. But whether an Avatar fires their gun is up to them.
Deadly Weapons is a tabletop roleplaying game for about 2 to 6 players, including a guide. It is a hack of the [BXLLET> system by @rathayibacter, with a focus on atmospheric and narrative play. The game uses no dice or other randomizers. Instead, characters willingly take on various risks represented by the Avatars gaining Dooms and suffering fallout over the course of play.
Deadly Weapons is also a collage piece, made using at least 75% recycled or secondhand physical materials. The art, rules text, poetry, and fiction contained within this 32 page digital zine serves to inform your play.

Your gun whispers sweet nothings as you fitfully roll in your bed. It is now time. Be a girl with a gun! Hunt Demons! Smooch Demons! Live! Die!

By Erika, Marjorie, Axel, Zach and Noi
Now Available!

Tumblr media
EDITORIAL
We didn't grasp what it would mean to do this project…
We are so grateful about the love we received from the community since the release of the first issue of What's New in IF?
We didn't think it would reach so many people so quickly, and so positively. We're really floored by the lovely comments we received in the reblogged tags and replies and dms. It really means so much to us!
Though it is quite a bit of work, to track so many places and select the coolest stuff (especially from itch…), and we really didn't realise until now what we brought ourselves into…
But it is all worth it.
And we hope we can meet your expectations every week!
Thank you for everything!
ERIKA, MARJORIE, AXEL, ZACH, AND NOI
Tumblr media
ADDENDUM
The game mentioned as The Dice in the zine is actually called The Dice Test. Apologies to @stanwixbuster .
We misnamed the project Bladeweaver (as Dawn of Heroes), and the update only included new scenes, not the full Ch2. Apologies to @bladeweaver-if.
REWIND
BECAUSE WE MISSED SOME THINGS LAST WEEK
Femboy Dating Simulator received an update with new routes. (@kathrinesadventures)
anhedonia and SUDDEN DEATH by DOMINOCLUB were released.

EVENTS
Spotlight on: The Spring Thing
Currently in its Voting Period, the Spring Thing is a yearly Interactive Fiction festival, meant as an informal counterpart of the big IFComp in the autumn. It has been held every year since 2002.
“The Spring Thing especially welcomes diverse voices and populations traditionally under-voices and populations traditionally under-represented in gaming, including women, people of color, queer and LGBT+ folks, and blind, neuro-diverse, or disabled creators. People from all walks of life should feel encouraged to participate as players, authors, or reviewers.”
The event is sectioned into three categories: the Main Garden, for games eligible for prizes, the Back Garden, for unfinished projects or experiments, and New Game+, for remastered and updated games.
Aside from the winning “Best in Show” ribbon (and prizes), each entry can receive “Audience Awards”, customised ribbons submitted by voters.
You can play the 33 entries over on the Spring Thing website! And if you liked one very much, consider voting for it before May 11th!
According to the organiser, the votes are really split, so EVERY VOTE COUNTS!!
CONFERENCE
You can now register for the Narrascope! It is happening June 21-23, in hybrid. They've also released the schedule of talks!
ONGOING (VOTING)
Do you speak German? The annual Grand Prix has released its submissions and is looking for voters! Deadline is May 1st!
[And the Spring Thing too!]
ONGOING (SUBMITTING)
The Dialogue Jam by the @neointeractives group is open for submission until Tuesday 30th! Only Dialogue is allowed!
On Tuesday 30th, the window to submit for the Text Adventure Literacy Jam 2024 will end. The goal is to make a parser for beginner players.
Also ending at the end of the month is the Amare Games Festival 2024, which is all about love!
On the Choice of Game Forum, the Diversity Jam is running. They accept any CScript game… as long at is not in ENGLISH!
THE BITSY JAM IS BACK!!! NO DIALOGUE - 8 DAYS (sorry, we almost missed it, we're really excited for it, but space was limited)
OTHER
The Interactive Fiction Showcase is still running, with new submissions, since last week! It is happening on itch!

HIGHLIGHT ON...
A couple of games that we thought were cool.
Birdland by Brendan Patrick Hennessy (Twine) @brendanpatrickhennessy
The XYZZY Award-winning interactive game about summer camp mystery, surrealism, and finding who you are. An amazing lesbian YA dramatic teenage romance. recommended by [anonymous]
31st March, midnight by Prof. Lily (RenP’y)
An a phenomenal short visual novel about the game dev experience in an up-and-coming studio and the perception of Visual Novels in the gaming industry. recommended by Kastel
Ryan Veeder's Authentic Fly Fishing by Ryan Veeder (Inform)
“I can't believe I only found this game like… 3 days ago. I just freaking love fishes and this was the most frustrating ever because you can't only fish in there. But gosh darn isn't it amazing. Like I didn't expect to get tangled in all of this…”
submitted by Eli
Your favourite game here?
Do you have a favourite game that deserve some highlighting? Tell us about it! A old or recent game that wowed you so much you want to spam it to everyone? Tell us about it!
We'll add it to the page!

FINAL WORD
Before we end this issue, we would like to thank:
[anonymous], @elegantunknownphantom, Eli, [anonymous], Jill, Kastel, [anonymous], and (again xD) [anonymous].
Your messages left on our itch page, our Tumblr ask and submission inbox, our email (! even), and the Google Form, have been so so useful in making this issue (seriously, we wouldn't have found at least 10 games without your tips).
And we'd like to thank all of you, who liked and especially shared the issue with so many people! Thanks to you, we were able to reach new readers (who got to find new games!) and new authors (who we didn't know about before!).
Sharing is truly caring!!
See you again next week!

🎨 for the ask game :D have a nice day/night
this is the hardest question to answer in my life
i think its impossible for me to pick just one, and for the sake of the length of this post and my sanity im not gonna mention animatics here bc im,, a little insane
heres sorta a small list that barely covers all the art i love:
panukkie's traffic zine piece
all of cherrifire's pixel life series art (double life, third life), as well as literally all the crane lives art
olwolo's liml art and third life art
luminousslime's liml desert duo art (scar, grian)
kiszoneszczury's desert duo art gift and anniversary (though its literally one of my fave artists ever, anything it draws is an instant fave of all time to me, ESPECIALLY ITS RANCHERS ART)
illustromic's double life zine piece
literally anything marblegroves draws ever (liml zine piece) a lot more of their art is on different socials but yeah
alas i cannot list everyone, but to throw out a few more folks: i love ANYTHING screachogreilige draws (HE HASS THE DESERT DUO EVER), periwinklemoonlight, aresonist, ink-ghoul, nezhanetwork, localwheel, noxlotl, rusty-courage, kazehita, bc-jpeg, alienssstufff, kitsuneisi, xmaruu, time-slink, cocoabats, AND I NEED TO CUT MYSELF OFF I CAN KEEP GOING FOREVER

If you read indie books play indie games listen to indie musik or generally appreciate any form of art by lesser-known people my challenge for you is to comment on this post with at least one recommendation for a work you wish was better-known. The more obscure it is the better.
For now here are some of mine:
Love Letter - 18+ Trans-Gay Zine. It's all in the title, a short zine on being a trans dude who loves other dudes.
Inuit Uppirijatuqangit - ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐅᑉᐱᕆᔭᑐᖃᖏᑦ. "A hidden object game in which users explore 4 unique areas in and around an Inuit community." Short game to learn native myths & sayings.
Longsummer Night, an anthology of monster romances. It's got like fifteen stories there's got to be SOMETHING you'll like in here (personally I would have paid full price for "Labris" alone this shit blew my tits off)
Player Two is Unprepared, a one-page satyrical RPG making fun of ya boy Ready Player One. It's fucking hilarious I was giggling the entire time I read this.
The Unicorn's Beard, a short story about a doctor being hired to take care of the queen's unicorn.
Pine Sap, a poetry collection. "That's just the heart talking, you can never trust those. pick a more stable organ to listen to, like the spleen, or the gallbladder” lives rent-free in my head.
A Strip of Velvet, a 18+ monster romance featuring hunters and old gods.
Fire and Wolf, the book I won't shut the fuck up about, YA sci-fi/fantasy about kids accidentally pulling an NPC out of a VR videogame.
Btw if yourself dabble in creative endeavors you can self promote on this post too go wild.

hi hello it's both itch creator day AND my birthday so this is a perfect excuse for me to do a master post of my games and zines!!!
Collabs:
Agami Village: Created with Weiwei Xu as part of last year's HES SUPERFestival, supported by Hand Eye Society and Canadian Council for the Arts. It's a short visual novel about fishing and time loops!
ghost story: A short prototype of a first person murder mystery where you're a ghost trying to solve your own murder. Done as a final project for Code Coven's Intro to Game Making course back in the winter.
(neither of these are purchasable but if you try them and like them you can always send a kofi!!)
Bitsy:
on nights we dream of stars: a semi-autobiographical story about stars. mostly just me figuring out how bitsy works.
on the nature of ghosts: small vignette about ghosts made for the february 2022 bitsy jam.
the end is near: a soliloquy about the end of the world, done for both the july 2022 bitsy jam and crabjam 2022. inspired by s24 for of blaseball but wholly independent to it.
lungs to burn: a short poem game about wildfires, grief, and queer connection done for the may 2023 bitsy jam. featured in indiepocalypse #43
no postage required: a somewhat-sequel to the end is near; or a letter to a lost love. done for the 2023 trans game dev server jam.
Twines:
cards fall where they may: anthology of interactive blaseball stories told through a tarot reading. some of the most impressive css i've done to this day, and i honestly think it's worth checking out just for that.
ablaze with the people you've been: another interactive story, this one a story about edric tosser told in four acts. still worth checking out even if you know jack shit about blaseball imo and still one of my favourite things i've ever made.
run from me or rip me open: the thing that started it all, the first game i ever made. yet another blaseball story; it's a little rough around the edges but it's got heart.
Zines:
Kriah: A personal zine about my experiences with antisemitism over the years. a heavy read but one i would implore gentiles to take a look at regardless.
square roots: made with @tigerquoii for the 2022 blaseball zine jam. a series of conversations.
and that's it!!! all of them (besides the collabs) are pay what you can, forever and always. if you've ever enjoyed something i've made, consider supporting me and my projects! and if you can't, rating and comments are always equally appreciated mwah

Cover Reveal: Ritual Magic for Besties (coming to Crowdfundr Feb 6th)
Tumblr media
Magic exists and it is in the connections we're willing to make with each other. Play a group of inter-woven magic users, explore your history together and use that exploration to cast spells. These spells might be to help yourselves, help each other, or just a way of messing around. This is Ritual Magic for Besties, a tabletop roleplaying game for two-to-six players, using a deck of tarot cards.
Coming to Crowdfundr on February 6th please subscribe to the pre-launch page as that would be a massive help in terms of making this game successful.
Tumblr media
This book, written by Kayla Dice, that's me, (Terminal, Follow Me in the Night: A Cursed Radio) and illustrated by @molomoot, includes all the rules of the game as well as tools for character creation and different scenarios to set up individual sessions of play.
As part of Zine Month/Tabletop Non Stop 2024 we're crowdfunding for a print run of the game as a full colour a5 zine presented in a scrapbook layout. We are are doing a 50 /50 profit split . The initial goal will cover printing and editing costs and then everything past then will go to paying us.
Mol's art has a brilliantly gentle yet vibrant touch. For me writing wise I'm really happy with how the game plays and the stories it can tell. In part I've been thinking of it as a companian piece to things like The Infinite Dancefloor (it even uses a similair character creation set up), Follow Me in the Night and To Embrace a Swamp Creature. It's a spellcasting game for exploring friendship, love and other messy dynamics.
I hope people dig it

so I'm gonna repurpose this tumblr as a place to share a wider range of art I make...
so I thought I would quickly reintroduce myself here!
so there's, like, a huge dump of process and studio photos up there, if that's your jam - go forth and dowse through them for secrets about the arcane rituals I use to make art
I'm Shel Kahn, you may remember me from such projects as: By Crom!, a cromulent autobio comic or The Corruption of Pelursk, a cursed ttrpg module or Lomy and the Abyss, a comic that asks 'why heavy metal tho' and answers 'fuck you, that's why' but also feels bad about swearing ....or maybe you just really like crystal islands.
I'm an art director by day at an indie videogame studio, and by night, and on weekends, and on vacation, and really wherever I can squeeze it in, I like to draw, and paint, and write, and make things. I love watercolour and gouache, designing toys and games, making comics and zines, and the joy of colour!
thanks for sticking around to see what I'm up to! i really love talking about what pens I use, so don't hesitate to fish for shop talk in the asks!
...also, while digging through files to find these photos, I found my stash of ancient, ancient art, so I bestow upon you an offering of the first fanart I ever remember drawing:
Tumblr media
yep
thanks!

More amazing games this last couple of months! Mostly from crowd funds, but with a couple of birthday gifts and the first installment of Zine Club in the mix!!
Here's a breakdown with some "why I wanted to check 'em out" hype!
DCC - Sailors on a Starless Sea: I recently got a copy of Dungeon Crawl Classics, and asked folks in the Plus One Exp Discord for recommendations, because I'd seen a few of 'em talk about DCC. This had at least two people recommend it! So, I'll be skimming it.
Emerald Templars: I was initially intrigued because of the South American creators and focus of the game, and can't wait to explore it further. The art and the overall quality of the book look great, and I definitely love seeing Fantasy stuff that's not Euro-centric.
Lichoma: Billed as a "meatpunk" game, I really needed to know what that meant. It's a dark, violent and interesting game with some neat mechanics (at least per the stream I watched).
Convictor Drive: This hit crowdfunders around the same time as the Dark Souls 5e came out, and I think while the Cowboy Bebop RPG was crowdfunding. So I was on a kick of really wanting to see more Japanese games get translated and brought stateside, which this was. It's an exosuit procedural super-detective kind of game, which intrigued me, even beyond the JP angle.
Overisles, Inspirisles, and the Shaping Deck: This one I'd been aware of for a while, having gotten Overisles in a Bundle years ago. It's an RPG that uses American or British Sign Language as part of the mechanics. It's supposed to help you learn ASL or BSL, and I've always been curious about those languages. The books are gorgeous, and they came with a pin and 2 really beautiful booksmarks
The Wizards & the Wastes: Big fan of Snow's work in general, but what got me (aside from the Howl's Moving Castle touchstone) was the ability to use art you already own (books, poems, music) as a focus for your character's magical abilities. It's a really gorgeous book and I've been wanting to bring it to a table. I also really love the mechanic where you bring someone from outside the game in to solve disputes.
Crush Depth Apparition: Spooky submarine horror is a good concept on its own, but I was also excited because it just looked so stylish. Plus, another thing through Snow's store, so I was into it.
Girl by Moonlight: Sailor Moon but make it Forged in the Dark. I'm in! Partner and I have been watching the original Sailor Moon. I've been playing and enjoying Beam Saber, and I kind of love the way FitD games deal with character growth.
Wreck this Deck: The pitch is: You trap demons in a deck of cards, and actually mark the cards as you go, creating a neat artifact of play as you go. So after a few plays, you have this really ominous deck of cards, some of which are super messed up or even missing. It's a rad idea, and I'm looking forward to messing up a $3 Bicycle deck.
Guys in Chairs/Spin The Bottle: This is part of the Zine Club shipment for the month, but I'm also a big fan of Dillin's work. I heard them play Guys in Chairs on Party of One, and it's a great game.
1978 - The Night They Came Home (and a Trick-or-Treat bag with rollable tables because why not): I backed this before I ever saw Halloween, but having gotten into those movies this past spooky season, I'm really into this. 2-player game where one of you is the killer, and the other is the person trying to run.
Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop: This looks beautiful, pastoral, and I love a good spiral binding. It's a journaling RPG about someone who runs a bookshop that floats up and down the river. It's super cute and I love it.
Nasty, Brutish, and Long: Friends at the Table put me in a revolutionary action mood, but I also really like the work that Not Writing Games puts out. Also been on a bit of a FitD kick lately (as previously established). I'm also going to pass by making jokes about the name.
The Corrupted: The other half of the Zine Club shipment for the month. I've heard extremely good things about this, and zombie horror is a fantastic genre in general. So I'm hype to dig in.
Hark! Says the Frog Magus: When this was first announced, I was bummed because I'd just lost my job and wasn't sure I'd be able to justify a purchase. So, a friend preordered it as a birthday gift (same friend later got me a different gift because they're a monster). Sin's work in general is rad, and this is adorable but also a great adventure, so I needed it.
I will take a second to highlight these two!
Tumblr media
They came from the Plus One EXP Zine Club, and the sticker did too! And it's such a rad thing. A monthly subscription that brings some zines to my door, supports indie creators, and keeps the lights on for a community I care about. All Wins all the time.
I also received the expansion for Return to Dark Tower. I haven't really played Covenant yet, but I'm excited to try it out, because it adds some rad new models and some cool new classes, and a whole bunch of new skulls for the Tower.

CON FAR IS INTENSIFYING!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear K/S friends,
Greetings from the KiScon office where we are currently going from con farr to plak tow! Only three days to go and then it's time for an intense weekend full of K/S fun!
1. If you are already registered to attend KiScon 2023:
Tumblr media
You should have received the Con Book (program booklet with the schedule, all the Zoom links, tons of information, and also the auction catalog) last night by email. If you don't see it in your inbox, please check your spam folder, or make sure you actually checked the email with which you registered for the convention on Conline. If you need to update your contact details that we use to send out all the KiScon info, please let us know; also, if you are not sure whether you are actually registered for KiScon (these things can happen): please get in touch with us so that we can sort this out. The Con Book will also appear on Conline at the start of the convention, but we wanted you to have the pdf file sooner, so that you can familiarise yourself with the online format of the convention. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us. There is also another opportunity this week for a last-minute tech check or for asking questions in a smaller setting: my fellow con chair StarshipLillian is sitting in our virtual KiScon office and happy to help! Upcoming Office Hours are: Thursday (2 Nov) 12:00–05:00 p.m. EDT. You can find the link in our kiscord. In preparation for the convention, please make sure that your Zoom app is up-to-date, and that your mic and camera are working as they should. Check whether you can log into your Conline account and have a look at your profile there: is your timezone set up correctly? Are you using the correct (fannish) name on Conline? The schedule on Conline is displayed in our main con time = Eastern / New York, but you can click on any of the times and a little box will appear next to it to tell you what time that is in your timezone. If you encounter any problems while trying to log in or edit your profile, please let us know immediately so that we can help you before the start of the actual con weekend. Here’s also a reminder that we have a cosplay competition! You can take part either live during our Zoom session on Saturday, or by posting recent ( = from 2023) pics of your cosplay in our Discord server. See the Con Book for rules and details, please. We also still accept last-minute entries for our cake contest! Should a sudden craving for cake (or any other baked goods) happen today or tomorrow, turn it into art by decorating it in K/S style, snap a photo, and send it to: [email protected]. The winner will be determined on the last day of the con. 2. If you are not yet registered for KiScon but would like to join us last-minute: Head over to Conline and sign up! We have wonderful panels, fun vid shows, games, a great con zine, an amazing art show, and more. Meet fans who were there when Star Trek first aired on television. Meet fans who have only joined the fandom last year. We are a diverse crowd from all over the globe, and we would love to see you join us. If money is an issue: please apply for a scholarship (write to: [email protected]).  3. Last chance to vote for your faves in the Philon Awards 2023: If you have not yet submitted your vote for the Philon Awards, here’s a last call to please do this: You can fill in the voting sheet embedded on the KiScon website, or (if your device does not display it properly) you can find it at this link. Even if you have not managed to read your way through the whole shortlist, vote for those categories that you had the time to enjoy. Voting closes on 1 November, 11:59 p.m. EDT. Jenna and Shelley will present the winners at KiScon. 4. Merch: If you would like to show your love for KiScon and K/S in style… we currently have a limited range of merch available in our Spring store, with mugs, stickers, and T-shirts (in various styles). The logo was designed by Page of Wands for KiScon. Proceeds go towards our projects and the upkeep of the KiScon website. More merch might get added later, but it's a start. (And I needed a stylish mug to feed my con-induced caffeine needs.)5. Where to find KiScon information & announcements:
