hi so im normal abt shin tsukimi being nonbinary. most of this is just hcs but this is real to me. read it undercut :3 i also touched on my hispanic shin and him being gay aroacespec by accident. whoops

to me at least. shin hasn’t really ever cared abt his gender that much, it was never really a big part of his life growing up so he never put thought into it or really had a meaning for it in his mind.

he is still transgender to me, he started exploring himself at around.. 14? i would say, it wasn’t anything much, just dressing more GNC, having fun with combining both styles of masculine and feminine clothing and all of that. in a way wanting to seem confusing but not at the same time.

he likes exploring and experimenting with how gender feels for him while hes older, but ya know how it is. it just, doesnt really seem right to pick a side with something you dont really understand yourself.

so thats where the quoigender comes in. its also called WTFgender which i find amazing. quoigender pretty much means that you cant really put a definition on your gender. so i think over time shin starts like. feeling more connected to that term for himself..!!

Cat is similar to her early seasons’ version, she is kinda dumb, volatile and weird but not completely out of it. She kind of knows how to play people (especially boys) to get what she wants. Most of her dumbness would actually be translated into obliviousness, Cat doesn’t notice thiings, she’s always in her own world and doesn’t rlly care abt “normal” things

In this Andre and Tori are best friends (none of the og chow fuckery where they claim beck and andre r besties somehow)

Cat and Robbie are completely platonic on Cat’s side while Robbie makes a few moves on her once in a while (w/o any intention of actually dating her)

Jade and Tori are just gay. I can’t really explain any way else. It’s the same as in the show, just more explicitly gay. Like, in the way where Jade probably goes out of her way to make Toris life miserable but gets very mad whenever someone else does it (shes probably screamed “only i can make her life living hell” at students in hollywodd arts more than once). Tori is also meaner to jade in retaliation, but theyre both kind of into fighting each other so its not rlly that much of a rivalry and more of a amusing thing. Theyre also weirdly jealous of each other. Jade chases people down the hall with scissors whenever someone makes a move on Tori

Beck and Tori are 100% platonic, they hang out more than they did in the show (which fuels jades bother w them in the beginning) but remain abt the same level of closeness

welcome to riverdale insanity. i hope your adventure has made you want to watch this show. i can try to explain it to you but i physically can't put this show into words (i can actually, they're "camp" and "metanarrative")

basically: riverdale is an intentionally batshit insane show which started out as a somewhat normal teen drama. most people, however, stopped watching after the crazy got turned up a notch and because of that most people still think it's a teen drama and the writing's just bad. but it's not bad writing! it's very very good writing! because every insane storyline is purpose!!!!! and that's why people love it. because they love their insane and gay show. somehow this is very hard for the average person to wrap their heads around.

i love riverdale to death. it is truly, genuinely, the only show of it's kind. it's outlandish and crazy and hilarious and beautiful. there's literally no other show willing to be as insane as riverdale was and it's definitely one of my favourite shows ever made because of that. this quote from a recent interview with some of the actors says it best:

as for the comparison quoaad: i will say that i enjoyed this finale... about the same amount as queen? i didn't like some parts of it but more for general storytelling reasons (i don't want to know the exact fates of every single character at any cost and that's literally all this finale was lol).

the main difference here is that the dark artifices is a serious (wel.. serious-adjacent) ya fantasy series but riverdale is a show that's centered around outlandish, comedic and dramatic storylines. a crazy finale didn't really fit TDA, while obviously, a crazy-ish finale did fit riverdale for the aforementioned reasons (i say "crazy-ish" because i would say this episode is like. maybe #70 on the most insane riverdale episodes list? believe it or not this was very normal by riverdale standards).

and yes the polyamory ending is always ICONIC. they really kierarktina'd us and i'm delighted. more of this please!

also, can i just say, the fact that you thought riverdale was a straight show is unbelievably funny and i KNOW most people think of it that way but you have to know that genuinely, without lying, 80-90% of the characters are canonically bisexual. and virtually all the other ones are gay. all of the main characters are gay/bi (except jughead, though that one's still a little debatable?). most of the main characters' parents are gay/bi. homophobic villains all end up being gay in the end. random background will make one on-screen appearance just to say they're gay and then leave. every single one of cheryls ancestors was a lesbian. i don't have the time to count but think riverdale has somewhere around 30-50 confirmed queer characters. and yes i do wish that they had given is a crumb of ace or trans rep but this is not my story this is one insane gay person's 20 year revenge plan and who am i to judge.

At worst you get annoying shipping wars where "oh this long term relationship with their love interest doesn't actually mean anything bc they aren't married with 2.5 kids to" to genuine vile abuse rhetoric like, "sexual and domestic violence doesn't happen if you are capable of being attracted to someone"

TLDR: HC Utena as a comphet lesbian all you want, but if you argue that if she was bisexual she wouldn't be actually harmed by Akio grooming and assaulting her, you are evil.

Ppl acting like the only media options are big name corporate franchises or fanfic. Fanfic can be fun and meaningful without it being the only bastion of marginalized experiences. That's so much pressure to put on ppl's silly little stories and it ignores the wealth of small time creators who are putting their heart and soul into original stories across every medium

Please just don't rely on what trends on twitter or shows up on your dash. Some of my most transformative media experiences have been bc I took a chance on a book/show with a cool cover. I've found out stories of intense familial abuse and recovery using the Arthurian mythos, horror stories about a young girl and her gay brother-in-law both being haunted by the death of her older brother in different harrowing ways, surrealistic art-pieces about family and what makes it worth returning to, and quiet meloncholy domestic stories that use magic to show both the pain of being othered, but the join in finding community that does support you.

so my Serious Thought is essentially that it's really, really bad that "media for trans people" and "media with trans people in them" does not have very much overlap, and really in general, "medias for queer people" and "media with queer people in them" does not have much overlap, at least in popular media.

The depiction of queer people in media, especially popular film, never actually seems to be for queer people. You know that comic where the butch lesbians go "why are there no people like us on TV?" in reference to a TV generic straight couple, then years later go "why are there no people like us on TV?" in reference to a TV generic lesbian couple? Yeah.

Queer people in so much media are... declawed, I guess. Playing into the respectability politics look of "we're just like you!". There is rarely any reference to queer history, queer culture, queer complexity. It's just two men who are married but functionally act like any straight couple, or a token lesbian, or a trans woman described with the whole "was a man now is a woman" thing.

Most of those characters are not queers. They're LGBT, don't get me wrong, and they are technically queer, but they're not queer queer. They don't have any interest in breaking down binaries, questioning society's laid-out rules, fucking up the system. They just want to be treated like cishets. Gay as in happy instead of queer as in fuck you.

Don't get me wrong; LGBT characters in TV are important. To reference that specific post that sparked this, trans people are portrayed in a way that explains us to cis people like said cis people are 3 years old, a very basic and easy to swallow depiction. LGBT+ people exist as any other people as an act of normalization and it helps queer people who didn't realize queer was an option. But... it's just? Not for the rest of us?

Because if you already know you're queer, you're not going to actually get much from being taught what bisexual means. It's nice to see, but it's not super... idk, easy to deeply connect to. And I genuinely think movies that don't have a single canon queer character but are about being labeled a freak and proud of it are more queer and more for queer people than ones that just show some middle class white gay couple with 2 kids and a dog.

That's where the "movies that aren't about trans people but definitely for trans people" part comes in, because they're the next best thing to movies that are about trans people and for trans people. If I can't have both (though we really need ones that are both), I'd rather have one that's at least for me, whether the creator meant it to be or not.

A movie about self-examination and changing yourself to be happier, even in the face of adversity? Queer film! It doesn't matter if the MC is cis or not. A show about discovering something about you that is deeply hated (like, say, being a magical being), and saying fuck you, that's who I am? Queer show! A book about finding friends who love you for all your eccentricities and all your parts that don't quite fit in? Queer book!

Because even if it is not specifically about being a lesbian, or bisexual, or trans, or asexual, or whatever, that media is queer. When you're queer, you spend a lot of time just being who you are in the face of a world that hates you. Media that shows similar journeys is always going to be deeply, deeply queer because of that.

While fixing his space stuff, they ended up chatting a ton even if it meant breaking Rusty from his introverted comfort. they didn't have much in common as they were total polar opposites but it was so fun for them to spend some time together so they decided to hang out some more, not only at job! slowly they realized they aren't that different from each other! 2.What was their first impression of each other? okay so like... Rustbolt was scared of Millisecond a bit, as he's the infamous assassin from space and thought he was going to be cold and distant, that's why he got scared to fix his stuff for the first time. Millisecond meanwhile thought Rustbolt was.. just strange, but he was fascinated by his engineering genius and thought he's got a lotta potential. So like, their first impressions were really mixed, but none of them realized that they're not what they look like. Milli turned out to be an absolutely loyal and caring individual while Rustbolt turned out to be just eccentric but loving!

5.Did either of them try to resist their feelings? yes. holy shit yes, and it was Rustbolt. 7.What would their lives be like if they had never met? Hmmm.. i'd say, pretty normal. I headcanon Rustbolt to be a Gay Demisexual-Demiromantic, so he wouldn't get bothered by having no one to love. He'd be fine by himself, but without Millisecond he'd probably never learn to be more calm and let his emotions go. Millisecond would pretty much still roam the space as an assassin but he'd never learn to take it easy and be slower. they fullfill each other a ton!!

OOH. i genuinely don't have any family headcanons for Rustbolt, all I can say is that Millisecond has a father, but he doesn't talk to him as he was mentally abusive and a huge bigot (Millisecond is a gay man). Rustbolt is VERY protective of his boyfriend because of that. They have a friend group tho! they like to hang out together with Game Bug or Neptuna. Millisecond also has like several friends from the dark side of the moon in space. Millisecond shows affection through actions and Rustbolt shows it thru words! but.... ohhhhh well.......... Xingqui x Chongyun - this one is just so good. contender for my fav ship. you pretty much never see one without the other. they have a silly dynamic that I think is harmless and fun to see. big fan of time skip au's for this one specifically (I like to see how they've grown as ppl it makes me proud)
