Help the Qanou family escape to Egypt

Raghad Qanou is a second-year medicine student at Al-Azhar University in Gaza. She and her family of 8 used to live peacefully in a Shujaiya neighborhood; however, after the events of a Oct 7th, the family was forced to move a total of 7 times.

They are currently trapped in Rafah, in a narrow corridor next to a public toilet with a broken sewage system; this has caused the spread of diseases running rampant, such as hepatitis. They have barely been able to obtain food, water and anything that can keep them alive.

Raghad has already left Gaza thanks to a medical scholarship, but her family is still stranded. This campaign will help them escape to Egypt and maintain themselves for the next couple of months.

As of July 2nd, 2024, the campaign has gathered £2,323 GBP out of £55,000, from 130 donations.

SSE’s incomes totaled to roughly the same amount of money in 2022 as they did in 2021 (361 200 000 SEK in 2021 and 362 550 000 in 2022)

(For background info, in 2019 SSE’s incomes totaled to roughly 248 200 000 SEK and they profited roughly 19 400 000 SEK, and in 2020 their incomes totaled to roughly 373 350 000 SEK and they profited roughly 58 300 000 SEK)

Brazil to use Amazon Fund for law enforcement

Justice Ministry officials on Monday signed a contract worth BRL 318 million (USD 58 million) with federal development bank BNDES in order to fund law enforcement initiatives to fight deforestation in the Amazon.

The money comes from the Amazon Fund, which was created in 2008 by Brazil’s federal government and is managed by the BNDES. The Amazon Fund has accrued a total USD 1.3 billion in donations, over 90 percent of which came from Norway.

Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and the U.S. have also contributed, and the United Kingdom has pledged GBP 80 million (USD 101 million).

Andrei Rodrigues, Brazil’s Federal Police chief, said at a ceremony at the presidential palace that only with coordination among Brazil’s nine Amazonian states and its neighboring countries “will it be possible to fight organized crime in the region.” He celebrated the recent reduction in deforestation in the rainforest and said the new contract will enable new law enforcement initiatives to protect the Amazonian biome.

Hi, the Stargazer/Titan bridge needs to be completely rebuilt, and I haven't had the time recently to do it. I'll get to it one day, and update the LCARS when I do.

As for commissions, it depends entirely on what you're after. A ballpark figure for a commission of a starship bridge is £250 GBP.

UK petition: Call an immediate general election

Liz Truss (Conservative party) took over as prime minister on 6th September 2022, and appointed her Chancellor, the cabinet person who handles the budget. On 22nd September the Chancellor announced that he would be cancelling the 45% higher rate of income tax, immediately knocking £45 billion off the budget (and then partied with hedge fund managers that night). This was done without consulting the rest of the cabinet. It’s hard to comprehend how devastating that amount of money is, so here’s a really good visualisation.

It was so clear to the rest of the world that this was a catastrophically bad idea that the £GBP immediately dropped to a record low (£1 = $1.04 at its lowest). The Bank of England had to spend £65 billion of taxes immediately to stop pensions collapsing.

£45 billion of tax cut + £65 billion of emergency bailout = £110 billion, or 12% of the UK’s annual budget. Things haven’t been this bad since 1985 (PM Margaret Thatcher, notoriously inhumane Prime Minister).

This all means we’ll have a lot less money to spend as a nation, and since the govenment are currently majority Conservative that means cuts to public services (NHS, libraries, pensions, benefits for disabled and low-income people, etc).

This government was elected in 2019, but the Conservatives have been in power since 2010 and they’ve done so hilariously badly that we’ve gone through  and the next election isn’t until January 2025 (just over 2 years away). Opinion polls have put Labour clearly ahead for about 10 months.

So, here’s a petition you can sign. You can sign it if you live in the UK and/or are a UK citizen living elsewhere. The deadline is 28 January 2023.
