IGCSE
Heyy everyone
So did CIE's IGCSE and *hair flip* got an A* in all my subjects.
So yeah I'm just tryna help. Fr.
Now listen u dont need to get an A* to be happy with ur grades. If those are ur goals then u go girl. If those are not u still go girl.
But my mum always says "Always aim higher than what u can get. Then you will reach the farthest u can go. Now go make another omelette for me."
Now a major thing I would do before an exam is open a candidate response, the qp, the ms and the examiner report.
Do each question, check with the markscheme, check the candidate response and assess where u are and then the examiner report.
I love this so much: https://paper.sc/
Examiner reports are a really underrated resource and are REALLY HELPFUL.
Use the 'IGCSE' reddit and discord server
IGCSE Notes – Soumya Pandey
Here are some of the resources I used and each subject tips
Maths:
Past papers past papers past pAPERS PAST PAPERS PAST PA-
Girl i cant tell u enough
Also makes sure to learn all the calculator tricks including the linear equations one, differentiation (the only ones I can think off the top of my head)
Make sure to practice past papers have good time management. Calm down during the exam. It'll all be fine.
(trust me i went and got bangs cause i was depressed about the way i wrote the exam and here we are)
Sciences:
Use the examiner report tip. Always always use the syllabus of each subject. And ofc past papers
Skill for Science Packs - Google Drive
Bio:
Drives:
IGCSE Biology (0610) notes from MS - Google Drive
bio
Chem:
Heather Houston - YouTube
IGCSE all chemical tests - YouTube
Drives:
chm
0620 Chemistry – Google Drive
Phy:
physics resources
Business:
Bs is one of the easist subjects cause of the repeated questions and the low thresholds. If there is one subject u wanna chose for fun let it be BS or EVM
EVM:
Smallest syllabus ever
Just do past papers you'll be fine
Ik everyone says that but thats cause its true
The same advice goes to ICT. Like the practicals are the easiest shit u can think of but a big mistake that people do is forget theory.
Study for theory and u get good marks.
English (1st language) :
My fav subject in IGCSE
It was sooo good
Always choose descriptive its just easier to score in
Go read books from good authors like Madelline Miller, Katherine Arden, and Ocean Vuong. Get phrases that u really like and copy them into a word document. Go through it before the exam and use it in the writing
You can also use: https://www.descriptionari.com/
Examiners' Secrets: Descriptive Writing (Mr Salles) - YouTube
Paper 1 video
---------
AND THATS ALL
To everyone doing their GCSE's
All the best
Just remember that it isnt everything. Year 10 and 11 is all about finding urself and having the time of ur life. I sure as hell did. And at the end of the day these results dont matter half as much as u think. Its not that they're not important. Its just that there are more important things in the world.
Go live ur best life before the A level train hits.

GCSE ADVISE FOR CLASS OF 2025/current year 10s
This is a copy and paste from a group chat i have with some yr 10 friends so if there are teacher names from my school, ignore them
Website, resources and youtube channel names will be highlighted in orange
More subject specific advise on my GCSE rambles masterlist
------
1. you should seriously start revising from now
At the start of the year i didnt care about revision so i didnt do anything till our first mocks rolled around and then tried to cram an entire year and few months of content for every subject in 2 weeks and i didnt get it in time. And during the easter holidays i spent so much time revising to catch up before gcses that i fell into a depressive episode so start revising slowly from now and over the summer holiday to save your emotions later
2. Rest is gonna be more important than revision at times
Especially towards the lead up to your real gcses if you need a break, savrifice revision for having a break or sleep it will do you better, but make sure you have/will do enough revision in time
3. Your first mocks will be this year's gcse papers but don't cheat and look up the questions, especially for english because that will do you no good because the mocks are meant to help you practice analysis on the spot in total exam conditions
4. Do practice papers, especially for science and maths this will help you the most. Do it in english as well if you are not so good at analysis or essay writing. If ur bad at essay writingf, practice writing and give it to the teachers, if youre bad at on the spot analysis, then juust bring up a bunch of practice quuestions and just play your essay. Dont write the essay, just keep planning a bunch so you develop that skill better
5. Gcses really aren't too bad. Sure they are a bit stressful when you are doing the exams that you need for a levels, but they are still not as bad as people might say. Also dont let your mocks make you worry. My mocks were a TON harder than the real thing. Dunno if that is cuuz i got better or what but dont fret about what you got in your mocks and just use it to know what to revise next
6. I dont know what order hiistory is going to be taught in, but ask mr millen or mr crozier what unit you are going to study last and during your breaks, try to study that unit yourself. We didnt have time to cover elizabeth and only covered one enquiry of content out of three so i had to spend the entire weekend teaching myself the unit from scratch so maybe try studying that unit yourself throughout the year so you dont run out of time and have to cram a ton of new content in 2 days
@Cognito is a great channel for science revision. Ive used the "entire [bio/chem/phys] paper [1/2] in 30 mins" videos so much for revision. Its efficient and labels triple and combined topics so you know which bits to ignore and such. They also have other exam boards and not just aqa
@freesciencelessons ive heard is really good but ii hardly used it, but its good for going into detail for certain topics
Also for science, make revision cards during or closely after your science lesson to save yourself time. Makig the revision cards took so much time and took away time fron actually revising from them so if you make them during school hours then you have time to revise from them.
Also getting a bunch of questions or opening a textbook and makig questions up about it to ask your friends helps both of you revise really well, especially as last minute reviisiion.
Questions like "what iis the name of the instrumental method for the flame test" (that is paper 2 so you wouldnt have pearned iit yet but questions like that)
Litcharts is the best for english revision, it has detailed notes for every single english text you would have ever done and the poems. Its also layed out in a really good way, especially best on desktop.
You dont need to pay the subscription because the things it gives for free are more than enough. I mainly used this website for the poems
@Mr salles has good videos for english. I used this channel a lot because he gives very nuanced ideas that work so well as well as advise that helps a lot with general essay writing and such.
Ive also heard tgat @everythingenglish and @mrbruff are super good. Ive used mrbruff for last minute poetry revision the day before our lit paper 2 because he has really good analysis of each poem in five minutes which i used for all the poems i was not confident in at all
Also for english, learn how the mark scheme works. If you know exactly what the examiners want, that is basically half of your marks.
One key advise i try to remember is to analyse the form and structure of the text or poems. That will get you many more marks and very quickly push you to the top bands withiut being too dificult. Just talk about the way the paragraohs are done, or ciclical structure
MME, This website is very good for maths revision. I despise maths and do worst in maths so this helped me learn entire topics in a few minutes when i couldnt in a few weeks of lessons.
What i did was go through all of my old books since yr 8 or yr 9 and just write down a list of every topic i wasnt 100% confident in. And then went through one by one and learned them again, and made revision cards on them
Also for revisioncards to save time, i litterally just tore out some bits from my maths book tgat had the information layed out well.
Also dont fret if there are one or two topics you just cannot understand. If you cannot do completing the square for the life of you, then just screw it, at most it will be 5 marks on one of the papers. Dont do this for too many subjects but if tgere are one or two you just cannot do, thhen ignore it.
Also if you are aiming for a grade 6, all you need to do is get 100% on the first 13 questions on each of the 3 papers. That will get you ceazy close to grade 6, and then complete the rest of the paper and you've probably gotten it
Tumblr media
I HATE CGP's books, they judt never work for me cuz i hate how they are layed out buut for hostory it is tge one textbook that actually worrks from them. Ive found this text book so helpful, more than youtube videos. Mr millen gave all of our yeargroup one of these for free but i dont know if he will for your year. Ask him, but dont buy it if you find out he is just gonna give you one
I think that's about it. I dont have anything for frnech because i honestly just winged it and did no revision, but you should probably practice it for good measure
There is a perfect amount of stress where you will work the best. Too little stress and you wont do as well, too much stress and you wont work as well. First mocks i was fretting, but second mocks i went into each exam calmly and did much better, and same with the real thing.
I did slack off on the last history exam and physics exam because those were my last two exams, but i wish i did work a bit more on those instead of just give up
You will never feel more comradery with the entire country of year 11s than you will when you finally sit those real exams
Good luck next year!

the library of lamentation: study session 01
or: curses and hexes is a really hard class, isn't it? luckily, satan has some recommendations.
ginger's headcanons about magic, humans, demons, and demon-human magic in 2400 words or less. this is a long one! one non-specific mention of alcohol and medicines, but that's about it. horrible bastardisations of actual science and terrible demon puns ahead - reader discretion is advised.
Tumblr media
On the Oni-gin of Species: Demon Biology for Beginners
(scientists dni, i took gcse triple science a long time ago and you will probably cry, i can only apologise)
i imagine demons to be, on average, a little bit bigger than humans
their proportions are still the same and everything, they’re just like…… if you hit 1.25x on humans, that’s about how big i think they’d be
i.e. if you’re already quite short, i can only apologise for the inconvenience when it comes to things like steep stairs and high shelves
if you’re quite tall, you’re actually at an advantage here, because you’re probably within the rough height boundaries (albeit maybe on the lower end) that demon stuff is made for
apologies wing kink enthusiasts but i would guess that horns, wings, tails etc are probably not specific erogenous zones
it would be pretty impractical for something like horns, which are designed for fighting, to evolve to be really sensitive - using them to fight would be really painful if there were loads of nerves involved
that’s not to say that body parts like tails or wings are totally insensitive or anything - they’re just extra limbs, and there are definitely some ways of touching them that feel better than others - take that as you will
however, i do think that some demonic markings are especially sensitive, but this is really a case-by-case basis
markings that are naturally there (like that blue-green colouration on the ends of barbatos’ tail) don’t have any particular sensitivity, because despite the colour, there’s nothing different about the demon’s actual body going on underneath there
however, pact marks and other magically-created markings are more sensitive because they contain a higher concentration of magical energy
when a pact is formed, the mark you see is magical energy literally bonding itself to your skin (and also your soul, but that’s a slightly different matter)
it’s kind of like having an electric buzzer permanently attached to you (although the feeling isn’t quite as strong) - when you touch it or press it, some of the energy within the mark comes into contact with the surrounding nerves, which makes them go all fizzy
we don’t actually get to see a huge amount of natural-born demons in canon, so unfortunately i can’t draw a huge number of conclusions about this topic
HOWEVER
by this theory, i think the marks that the boys (i.e. the brothers) have in their demon forms are sensitive in the way that doesn’t happen with natural demons
(with the exception of satan, sorry everyone)
these guys were angels first, right?
and they didn’t turn into demons willingly - their demon forms were figuratively forced upon them to replace their angelic bodies
and how do you go about doing that? i’d wager that their transformation into demons probably involved an IMMENSE amount of magic to make that happen
my point being, their demon forms were formed almost exclusively through magical energy being used to convert their bodies - sound familiar? it should, because that’s basically just a super-charged version of what we just said happens when you make a pact
so belphie’s cow spots? asmo’s heart-things on his arm? mammon’s go-faster stripes? lucifer’s forehead diamond? ring ring that is a whole lot of magic in a not-very-large space
hence, sensitivity :)
The Ma-genie-cian’s Nephew: An Introduction to Magical Theory
see, i suspect that the reason demons (and possibly angels too?) possess innate magical capabilities in the way that humans do not is because they are literally made of magic
that’s not to say that they’re like… incorporeal or anything - they have physical bodies that are made of stuff like hydrogen and carbon and potassium, same as humans
but their internal organs don’t convert food into energy the same way ours do
for one, devildom foods aren’t just made of physical matter, like ours, but they also contain magical energy as a result of evolving for millennia in the magically-saturated environment of the devildom
demon bodies, which run partly on magic, need some way of getting that energy inside them - breathing in devildom air, while that does provide some magic, is not going to be enough to replace all of the energy you lose through both performing magic, and just existing as a magically-powered being
what that means is that demons digest food in two ways - they get nutrients from food in the same way as us, where they’re absorbed into your blood via your intestines
and they also absorb the latent magical energy within the food at the same time
is it possible to convert non-magical food into magical energy? yes, and demons can do this (for example, if they’re stuck in the human world for a long time - see: asmodeus being forced to “help” solomon build his temple), but most of the time they don’t need to, because they live in a place where the food has magic in it by default
this is part of the reason why the air (especially in places with high concentrations of magical energy) and food in the devildom can sometimes be problematic for humans like mc and solomon, and why we don’t react to certain substances the same way
take the gold hellfire newt syrup from lesson 22 - it contains a particular combination of actual elements (the actual physical stuff that it’s made of) and magic, and the mixture of the two is what produces a particular effect on demons (i.e. insatiable… arousal? still not quite sure exactly what it did to them, but the sheer amount of kissing that goes on suggests something like that)
this is also the case with stuff like demonus (see: asmo’s failed drinking contest with mc) and the lunatic pudding (see: that diavolo devilgram that i wish i owned) - these are able to have some sort of effect on mc, but that effect is not the same as it would be on a demon, because the way the human body breaks down and processes these foods is different
it stands to reason that the reverse is also true - human things like alcohol and medicines (stuff like painkillers, sedatives, stimulants, etc) will sometimes have the intended effect if they deal with bits of the brain/body that work the same way in demons, but it’s very common for them to either not work at all, or to do something unexpected
(reports also indicate that differences between demon and human taste receptors also cause the taste of certain foods to be different, particularly those which are not common to both realms or which contain high concentrations of magical energy)
it is currently hypothesised that angels also follow these same patterns, but for some reason the celestial realm doesn’t seem to like letting demon scientists run around doing experiments on angels? not quite sure what’s going on with that, but until then - or at least until simeon starts returning our calls - no solid conclusions can be drawn
going back to the whole demons-are-made-of-magic thing, this also accounts for why more powerful demons tend to be physically larger in size - they need more physical mass in order to store and channel that much magic, and the fact that they have lots of magical energy naturally increases their mass
take demons like diavolo or lucifer, who possess enormous quantities of magical energy, and thus require more mass to counterbalance this - smaller demons would not be able to keep that much magic in reserve, and if they tried to use that much power in one go, the surge of energy would probably cause their physically weaker bodies to degrade or be totally obliterated
(this theory runs along the same lines as the human principle of “mass-energy equivalence”, although closer investigation is needed, seeing as there are some notable exceptions like barbatos, who possesses incredibly vast magical power but is built like a more petite demon)
humans do have some built-in magical potential, and there are various ways to increase this, with varying degrees of efficacy
but as our only real canon humans to observe are mc (who has some sort of weird angel blood thing going on, plus seven highly unusual pacts) and solomon (whose continued existence is probably a crime against science), i’m going to reserve judgement on how exactly i think humans and magic interact with one another
The Great Pact-sby: Examining the Science of Pact-Making (2nd ed. foreword by Solomon the Wise)
so now that we know a bit more about how magical energy works, what does that mean for demon-human pacts?
we only really have access to information about mc’s pacts with the boys, and even then we don’t know a huge amount, so the vast majority of this is speculation, very loosely based in canon
there are various types of pacts between demons and humans, and each one has varying creation conditions, uses, side effects etc
however, one hard and fast rule is that pacts can only be created between one human and one demon at a time - it is possible to bond multiple humans and multiple demons together, but that’s a separate process that would take far too long to cover here
when a pact is formed, the individual magical energies of the human and demon combine to form one pact, with a unique magical signature that is specific to the pair
this mixing of energy causes a pact mark to form on both the demon and the human - it’s currently unknown exactly what causes pact marks to differ in appearance (size, shape, colour, shine, and so forth) but it’s likely to be a combination of:
a) the difference in raw magical power between the two pact-mates
b) the type of pact formed
c) the cardinal sin that the demon is associated with (e.g. wrath, sloth)
pact mark formation works as described previously, where the combined magical energy of the pact bonds to your skin to form a mark that is unique to your and your pact-mate (see: On the Oni-gin of Species: Demon Biology for Beginners)
one of the reasons that you can’t pact-bond two humans together is because humans do not possess the inherent connection with a single cardinal sin that is necessary for a pact to form. in magic, all humans are considered to be capable of all sins (albeit to varying degrees), and thus cannot draw upon a cardinal sin to invoke a pact in the same way as a demon
that’s not to say that two humans can’t bond themselves together by other means, because they absolutely can - the most common method is through blood magic, or some other exchange of biological material
however, the most important reason that humans (and also the reason that two demons, regardless of their sin associations, and angels of all varieties) can’t form pacts together is because pacts are based on one of the oldest principles of sin - temptation
while this is not always the case when pacts are actually made (see: mc’s pacts with the boys), the magical basis for pacts is linked to the inherent inclination of demons to tempt humans to sin, and thus pacts originated as a way of allowing demons to attach themselves to humans (and by extension attach their sin to the human)
as a result, it is magically impossible to create a pact between any two entities unless one is a human and one is a demon, and both are currently in possession of their own soul
2nd edition addendum : notes on mark appearance
pact marks can only form continuously (i.e. they must appear unbroken on the body - for example, you can’t have a pact mark over your fingers or on your hair, where the shape of the mark can be split up when you move. it is, however, possible to have marks on your scalp, or along your fingers, as long there are no interruptions in the appearance of the mark).
marks can be physically removed, such as by severing the limb upon which it appears, but pacts themselves cannot be removed by an outside party, and they can only be dissolved with the consent of both pact-mates.
this is because pact formation magically bonds the souls of the human and demon together - in magical theory, the soul is considered to be the ultimate embodiment of the self, and therefore can only be manipulated by oneself unless permission is granted to another party.
pact marks can emit light, and will do so to varying degrees depending on certain conditions - generally speaking, the more powerful your pact-mate is, the brighter the mark will be. for those whose pact-mate is significantly more magically powerful than themselves, marks have been known to spark or fizz (or, in one memorable instance, catch fire - for those interested, please consult the Devildom Royal Archive for the relevant RAD incident report) when channelling high amounts of energy.
the most common example is when a pact is invoked or used in some way - the mark will glow as magical energy surges within the pact, causing it to heat up in much the same way as a lightbulb filament.
other instances of pact marks emitting light, changing temperature, or otherwise behaving strangely have been reported, particularly when one or both of the pact-mates is experiencing intense emotion, significant distress, or unusual magical fluctuations (e.g. being flooded with magical energy by a spell).
there are no known instances of pact-mates being able to communicate explicitly using a pact (e.g. via telepathy), but they can be used to convey simpler concepts, such as emotions, over long distances by manipulating the flow of energy within the pact.
this manipulation is what creates the signature “push-pull” effect of a pact, where magical energy can be transferred from one pact-mate to another (see: mc basically pouring power into asmo during diavolo’s retreat), and which is a key principle in all pact-based demon summoning.
looks like that's everything satan gave you. i wonder what else you might find while you're here?

Lmao this is completely unrelated to anything but my 15 y/o kid brother just got himself a gf and his lanky ass is desperate to build some muscle mass and as his butch lesbian older sister who studied GCSE Phys Ed for 3 years in high school and used to be buff as hell for a girl after captaining all the girls' sports teams and doing 20+ hours of sports every week, I'm now his unofficial personal trainer. I'm passing the wisdom of healthy training regiments, diet tips and the theory behind raising muscle mass to him without using steroids or protein products like the ridiculous Chads and Kyles I went to high school with. Those years of PE theory actually came in handy.

Hey. I'm kinda sucking at my A Level maths rn but ask and I'll DM/discord to help you with the GCSE stuff. I got some really inspiring PHYS teachers this year so I love an inspiring teacher but I also understand crap teachers. Not to be creepy. I just don't want all this info attached to my main
Oml not creepy at all, I suck at maths, I need all the help I can get. There’s a bunch of weird indices shit we’re doing and jsdkdhsfdjhsjliiij I went to 3 different teachers to ask about one question on my  homework and NOBODY could help me.
The teacher that assigned my homework doesn’t know the answer to the question himself so idk how I’ll survive this year.

To my knowledge everyone has to pick three or four “extra” subjects on top of the basic ones which are English lit & lang, maths, and some form of science (when I did my GCSE’s in 2016 it was either triple science so bio chem & phys or core science with an opinional additional and further). But since everyone does different subjects ppl tend to finish all over the place aha
Yes it was like that when I was at school although I didn’t reach my exams because I was a twat my older brother and sister did and half their classes had finished but then half of them were still in 😂 it just depends what Liv is taking at school besides the obvious ones 😂😂

The BMAT
The BMAT is the BioMedical Admissions Test - some universities require this test as part of application process. Quite a few medical schools such as Oxbridge, Leeds and King’s require it. In all previous years the BMAT was taken in the first week of November, but this year a new September sitting has been introduced (sorry this post is too late for people who took that!), so that you know your results before applying through UCAS - the deadline for this is 15th October every year.
This is useful because it can help you apply smart (playing to your strengths) to get the best chance at an interview. However, it’s important to note that Oxford doesn’t accept the September results for medicine or biomedical sciences, so you must sit the November test if you want to apply to Oxford.
Registration:
You take the BMAT in registered centres across the UK (I don’t know about international students), and should be able to google your closest one. Schools can be centres that run the BMAT, so check if your school does this. For the September sitting registration opens at the beginning of July and closes mid August. For the November sitting registration opens on the 1st September and closes on the 1st October.
Test Format:
Unlike the UKCAT, which is taken on a computer, the BMAT is a pen-and-paper test. The total time allowed is 2 hours, and in that time there are 3 different sections. The separate sections/papers are handed out after you have completed the previous section so you can’t go back to previous sections, you must only have the time allotted.
Section 1: Aptitude & Skills - 60 min - this section is 35 multiple choice questions which test problem solving skills and data analysis, as well as your ability to infer things from arguments/passages. I’d say it is like a mix of the QR and VR sections from the UKCAT.
Section 2: Scientific Knowledge & Applications - 30 min - this section is essentially a mix of 27 science and maths questions (multiple choice). There are questions addressing bio, chem and phy, so if you don’t take physics (like I didn’t) or one of the other sciences at A-Level make sure you refresh your knowledge. BMAT say you need GCSE level knowledge in all of the subjects in this.
Section 3: Essay - 30 min - you are given 4 questions and you have to write an essay on one of these. There is usually a more medically orientated question (I did one on the junior doctor’s contracts), and a more biochem/science based one; there is also usually a question that involves some ethics in it, or a quote that you have to write about. The question usually asks you to explain the question and to argue for/against the statement.
Scoring & Results:
For sections 1 and 2 you get a score between 1-9 with 1 being low and 9 being high. BMAT state that average applicants score a 5.0 with only very good candidates getting a 6.0 or over. Don’t be upset if you get under 5.0 in either section because the cohort of people taking BMAT are going to be of a high standard, so don’t think you’re ‘under average’ or not going to get in.
For Section 3 you get a score between 0-5 for the quality of the content of your essay, and a letter from A-E which scores the quality of your grammar/language.
The results are released online late September for people doing the September sitting, and in late November for people taking the November test. The way a university uses the BMAT in the selection process will vary, so check the institution’s website to check how they use your result.
General Advice:
Make sure you read and work from the specification (2017) - there is a new one every year but there are usually not any major changes.
Do all the past papers you can. At first you can just work through questions in a relaxed manner, but nearer the exam make sure you do timed sections. I found that section 2 was the most time-pressured, so make sure you identify and work on whatever your weaknesses are.
If you didn’t take one of the sciences/maths at A-Level I suggest going through a CGP GCSE guide to remind yourself of the content you need to know for section 2.
Make sure you do a full timed paper at some point, to make sure you have the stamina/concentration to get through the 2 hours.
If you take all sciences at A-Level make sure you practise the essay section a lot to get back into the habit of writing a large volume in a short time, and in a well constructed way.
Get English teachers to mark you essays - although there aren’t comprehensive mark schemes, and your teacher may not be too familiar with the topic you’re writing about, it is still worth getting their feedback on your general writing style.
Make sure you plan the essay question before you start writing. Think of arguments for and against - you should show a balanced view and then come down on one side, as the question often asks “to what extent...?”

Making a playlist of podcasts for chem and phys, and really HSC chem aligns with a bit of a A-level chem and most of GCSE Chem from the podcasts I've been browsing but HSC physics aligns with almost nothing from them.

My GCSE results!
Hi I just wanted to share my results! I’m not bragging in anyway- I’m just genuinely so happy and proud of myself. I still cannot believe it.
English Language - 7 (A)
English Literature - 9 (A*/A+) (what the hell ??? ohmygod)
Maths - 7 (A)
Bio - B (ugh :( )
Chem - B (ugh :( )
Sociology - A
Phys - B
RE - A
Citizenship - C (i hate this subject)
Geography - A (my favorite subject!)
I’m disappointed with science because I was supposed to get As-- but my courseworks (marked as all Cs) dragged my grades down to Bs... :(( It’s okay though!
Ok so that’s it! I’m not going to mention the last subject aka my third gcse subject choice bc I faileD it! I had a really tough time with it and I don’t think it’s worth mentioning :(
