"Hey, Macaque?"

The grunt of acknowledgement from the branch he was currently dozing on was all the go ahead MK needed, "So, you know how I've got some, er, unique clones?"

In a lazy drawl he responded, "Can't say that I do."

Undeterred MK continued, counting off on his fingers, "Yeah, I've got my food guy, my art guy, my porty guy but when I asked Monkey King why they were like that he said I should come ask you?"

He had been surprised that Monkey King would defer to Macaque on anything but given how gleefully he had, MK suspected it was less to do with any respect for Macaque's knowledge and because there was something embarrassing that was about to come to light.

The tip of Macaque's tail gave an irritated little flick before he sighed heavily. But he didn't even open his eyes as he raised a hand towards the sky and clicked his fingers, two shadows separated from him and travelled down the tree until they stopped in front of MK as two perfect circles. Unbothered, Macaque said to no-one, "Alright, have fun you two. Try not to traumatize anyone too badly."

MK took a cautionary step backwards as two forms rose from the ground and he looked between them with increasing alarm. Fully formed, they were clearly two clones but while the resemblance was undeniable they each had a distinctive sense of style.

The one smiling somewhat devilishly at him looked... Well, actually he looked really good. His hair, his outfit, his vibe - it was all so well put together. MK actually felt a little underdressed looking at him.

He was much preferable to look at than the other shadow monkey that stared at him with no emotion on his face whatsoever. His dress sense was simple, efficient and dark. There wasn't a spec of colour on him.

Wary, he called out to the original, "Macaque...?"

Macaque lazily raised a hand in the air and waved it over the brightly dressed clone first before gesturing to the rest of them in order, "Xīng, Huì - MK. MK - Xīng, Huì. Knock yourselves out."

Xīng grinned and bowed with no small amount of flair, "MK, the Monkie Kid. The pleasure is all ours."

Still unsure what to make of the situation, he did his best to be polite, even if the way Huì continued to stare unblinkingly unnerved him, "Er, yeah. Nice to meet both of you. You're both clones?"

Xīng stood and made his way over, throwing a friendly arm around his shoulders, "Sure are. How about we gather up your buddies and we'll put on a show for you?"

"What do you mean a- Gah!" MK startled at the silent appearance of Huì on his other side. He clutched at his chest as he unsubtly asked Xīng, "Is he, uh, I mean, does he...?"

Xīng patted his shoulder before forcing him to start walking forward, Huì walked silently beside them, "He's the strong, silent type. Don't you worry though, he won't do you any harm. Not as long as you stick with me."

MK edged ever so slightly closer to him before throwing a desperate look over his shoulder at Macaque.

He was not at all reassured by the grin on his face.

During the short walk back to where he'd left his friends on the beach he had learnt that Huì couldn't speak but that didn't seem to be a problem as Xīng could speak enough for two. MK had barely gotten a word in but, in all honesty, he'd been too focused on keeping a wary eye on Huì to really even try and offer any intelligent responses.

When the three of them emerged from the trees, it was not to the delight of everyone waiting for them.

Pigsy pinched the bridge of his nose, "MK..."

Mei was slightly less tactful, "Ugh, why are there two of him? One is more than enough."

Tang nodded decisively beside her, looking more than a little nervous. Sandy was the only one that didn't seem at all put off by the two renditions of Macaque beside him.

He ducked under Xīng's arm and moved closer to his friends, "I know, I know! I went to ask him about the clone thing and this was how he responded! So, I guess we're stuck with them for just now?"

Xīng commented dryly behind him, "You know, I'm beginning to think we're not welcome here. We didn't even get a chance to introduce ourselves."

MK turned around and did a double take, "When did you change your outfit?"

Xīng held up a corner of his coat and asked coyly, "Why? Do you like it?"

Mei walked up beside MK, and eyed the clones suspiciously, "Ok, so what's their deal then?"

"They say their names are Xīng and Huì, and I guess they're Macaque's equivalent of Porty MK?"

Xīng clicked his tongue, "You know, clones or not, it's pretty rude to talk about someone as if they aren't there. Can't you see how much you're upsetting Huì? He's a sensitive soul."

They all looked at Huì, who stared back with dead, emotionless eyes. Deciding it was better to err on the side of caution MK apologised, "Er, sorry, Huì? We didn't mean to upset you...?"

Huì didn't so much as blink but Xīng nodded, "That's better. Now..."

He disappeared into the shadows only to reappear sitting on top of the picnic table they'd set up, oddly in yet another new outfit, "What do you lot do for fun around here?"

Mei whistled, "Damn, that is actually one nice dress. Where'd you get it?"

Xīng just smiled and clicked his fingers. A miasma of shadow tendrils quickly wound their way up and around Mei and when they disappeared she was wearing a similar dress with her hair put up in a matching hairpin.

Mei had looked fairly alarmed at the shadows but it was almost immediately forgotten about as she picked up the skirt of the dress and started to turn this way and that, "Hey, not bad! You got it in green and white?"

A click and a flash of shadows later and she had what she requested. He even summoned a full length mirror that stuck out of the sand so she could check it out properly, "Damn, you even did my hair! Do you know how much of a pain it is to put up like this?" She turned to Xīng, "Hey, can you put it up in, like, a french braid bun?"

It was done in the blink of an eye and Mei was delighted, "You know what, I take it back, this Macaque has already outranked the original in my books."

Xīng laughed, "High praise. Anyone else want a costume change? What about you, big guy?"

Sandy actually looked a little hopeful, "Well, it's sort of hard to find clothes in my size... But I've always really wanted to try on one of those fancy three piece suits...?"

Sandy blinked down at himself before gasping and rushing to the mirror, looking exceptionally pleased with his outfit and posing this way and that before bringing his hands to his face, "I should put braids in my beard more often!"

Admittedly, a little won over, MK also looked towards Xīng hopefully. Xīng just stood up on the table and grinned, "How about that show I promised?"

They all had to dive out of the way as the shadows suddenly converged to raise something massive from the ground but they faded away to reveal an extravagant catwalk. Mei vibrated with excitement beside him, "Oh my god, yes! Hold on! We need music! We need a film crew! We need an audience!"

MK grinned and reached for his hair, "Coming right up!"

The only thing MK didn't have confidence in creating was a camera, well he could make one but he wasn't sure how they would actually get the videos from it, but Mei eagerly volunteered her phone. Entrusting it to the MK clone crew.

Xīng was clearly ecstatic about the additions to the stage and by the time they were backstage he was taking it all very seriously, directing clones and doing up hair and outfits as if he was born to do it.

Mei nudged MK, "Dude, this is totally Theatre Macaque. I bet he came into existence the same way Porty MK did."

He could totally see it, a shadow clone forgotten in a theatre hall that decided he was going to make this his entire personality. Honestly, MK was kind of here for it, so far he was way more fun than the actual Macaque.

Xīng was clearly both the star of the show and the director. No outfit was too outlandish for him and he absolutely went for broke when he struck a pose at the end of the runway. He would shout out directions for everyone else, demanding they be just as bold and brave.

It was a lot of fun but by the end of it they were sweating and exhausted. MK thinks they had all been taken aback by the dangerous look in Xīng's eye when they suggested they called it quits but it was quickly replaced by a cheerful declaration that they needed a finale - last walk down the aisle, no holds barred!

MK had sighed a breath of relief, for a second there he thought he was going to go all "the Porty never ends" on them, but it all ended on a high! Once MK had dismissed his clones, they had all gathered around Mei's phone to watch the highlights.

The review was cut short by Tang's frightened scream but to be fair to him, MK probably would have reacted the same way if Huì had materialised beside him like that.

Mei eyed him up, before addressing Xīng, "Alright, we get your deal, but what's with creepy here?"

Xīng smiled as he walked around and threw an arm over Huì's shoulder, "Creepy? Huì? What are you talking about? He's just a little guy."

Pigsy scoffed, "Oh yeah, he's a real charmer. The unnerving silence, the dead eyes, the total lack of emotion - he's not creepy at all."

Xīng grinned mischievously, "Oh? You hear that, Huì? Your natural charms aren't doing it for them. How about you treat them to a smile?"

The five of them couldn't put enough distance between them and Huì.

"Why does he have so many teeth!?"

"Oh my god, they're like knives!"

"Those eyes...! It's like staring into the abyss, into the unending void!"

Xīng looked entirely amused. He patted Huì's shoulder before approaching them, "Well, that doesn't bode well for the favour I wanted to ask you."

Bravely, MK stuttered, "Wh-What favour?"

"You see, Huì and I don't get to come out and play very often and you've all done me such a kindness by putting on a show. But Huì hasn't had a chance to have any fun yet."

Tang gripped Pigsy's arm, "What does he do for fun? Steal people's souls?"

Xīng laughed, "Of course not. What Huì loves more than anything else is a good fight! If you brave heroes would be willing to indulge him it would just mean the world to us!"

Mei seemed to regain her courage, "A fight? Against all five of us? A bit overkill, isn't it? I mean, I could totally take Macaque by myself!"

Xīng pandered to her, "Oh, I don't doubt it but who knows when we'll be let out again and Huì loves a challenge."

The five of them exchanged a look before huddling together, Mei kicked them off, "We could totally take him."

Tang shook his head, "No way. We're being baited. That... thing is straight from my nightmares!"

It took a little back and forth but eventually they turned back to Xīng, and MK spoke for them, "Alright, we'll do it! But on the condition we can keep all the clothes from the fashion show."

Xīng's grin was unsettling, "Deal." He clicked his fingers and a rack of all the clothes from today materialized beside them.

He then gestured for them to follow him, "Well, come on then. I know the perfect place for your fight."

Pigsy looked a little unnerved, "Why don't we just fight here?"

"Oh no, no, no. That would have been like having our show without a proper stage. You have to give Huì his chance to shine."

Warily they all followed after Xīng and Huì until they arrived at a large but empty hall hidden not too far from Monkey King's vault. The door creaked open to reveal a room in pitch darkness.

Tang immediately backed away, "Nuh-uh. No way. Not happening. I'm not fighting in the dark!"

Xīng simply clicked his fingers and a number of shadow portals opened on the ceiling, a single lightbulb hanging from a wire emerged from each of them to create cones of light.

They reluctantly followed the clones in as Pigsy gruffly complained, "You couldn't have gotten better lights?"

Xīng hummed, "We're shadow clones, I'm simply evening the playing field."

Despite the overwhelming odds in their favour, all of them were undoubtedly uneasy as they took up their positions under one of the spotlights, while Huì stood across from them just behind another.

Xīng leaned casually against a wall, "Everybody ready?"

They all nodded grimly, their eyes not leaving their opponent.

"Wonderful. One last thing then. Huì? Don't eat them."

MK let out a strangled, "Wait. What!?"

He saw Huì's terrifying grin for just a moment before all put two of the lightbulbs shattered above them, eliciting more than one terrified scream. The two that were left started to swing unnaturally.

The next five minutes could only be described as a real life horror movie. No amount of fighting ability could save them as one by one they were picked off, dragged into the shadows by horrifying flashes of teeth. He couldn't even run, walls suddenly appearing to cut him off and turn him around as he tried to escape.

In sheer terror he held a hand in the air and a ball of pure light erupted to banish every shadow from the room. He breathed heavily as he looked around to see his friends picking themselves up from the floor, shielding their eyes, while trying to figure out what was going on.

He startled as he heard Xīng shout, "We're outside! Lights too bright for us!"

Mei groaned, "It's too bright for us too. Can you turn it down MK?"

Tang quickly added, "Just a little! Do not turn it off!"

"Er, I'm not sure how?"

Pigsy just forged ahead to the door, "Let's just get out of here!"

Everyone scrambled after him and it was to great relief when they saw the blue sky above them. MK dismissed the ball of light and turned to the others, "Are you ok!?"

Sandy nodded, "Shaken up but not hurt."

The sentiment was shared, no-one had a scratch on them, but god knows none of them were going to sleep easy tonight.

He swung around at Xīng's voice, "Ah, what a performance! You five really know how to make a shadow clone feel alive!"

Mei was incensed and she started to match towards him menacingly, "How could you do that to us!? That was so messed up! We agreed to a fight, not a-!"

She stopped short as Huì stood in front of Xīng defensively. Xīng grinned over his shoulder, "Forgive him, he's a little protective. What were you saying?"

She didn't move closer but she was not deterred from letting her displeasure known, "I can't believe you would set us up like that! That wasn't a fight! It was a horror movie!"

Xīng did not look apologetic as he took a step to stand beside Huì so he could lean an elbow on his shoulder, "Ah, I'm sorry for misleading you but no-one ever lets Huì play with them if I tell them the truth."

Mei cursed him out as she stomped away, "MK, get these two out of here! I don't want to see their faces ever again!"

Xīng held up his hands, "No need to show us out. We've had our fun." He took a bow, before offering, "But for the record, we are genuinely grateful to you for accommodating us today. C'mon Huì, let's go."

They sunk into the shadows and disappeared.

Macaque sighed as he felt trouble reform on the ground below him, "Did you have fun?"

Xīng responded, "Oh, we had a great time. Shame we never get called for an encore but to be fair Huì is a hard act to follow."

He opened his eyes and peered down at Huì, "You take a bite out of anyone?"

Xīng answered, "Nah, he was good. The bird and rodent population may have taken a sharp hit today though."

Wukong better not give him shit for that, there's no way he'd sent MK to him and not known what he was getting him in for, and it wasn't Huì's fault that the hunger of the shadows he embodied couldn't be satisfied.

"You both done for the day then?"

Xīng stretched, "Yeah, let us out again soon though. We never even got to see Wukong - you know he's my favourite model."

Macaque raised an eyebrow, "I'm not stopping you."

"Next time. Huì needs a break. All this sunlight takes a toll on him."

He shrugged, "Fair enough."

The two sank back into the shadows and rejoined his magic. He just snuggled back against the tree, planning to finish this day as he started it - doing absolutely nothing.

MK couldn't believe what he was hearing, "You what!? How can you prefer Huì to Xīng?"

Monkey King made a face, "Ugh, Xīng is so annoying. Changing your clothes a hundred times a day, pestering you to put on a show, quoting poetry, randomly bursting into song. I'll take Huì any day, he's basically just a big puppy."

"He's literally a monster!?"

"A monster? Nah. The real monster is Xīng - he's so bossy! A real shame that the two of them are a package deal."

Momentarily distracted from Monkey King's terrible taste in shadow clones, he asked, "What do you mean?"

"Hm? Ah, Macaque can't summon just one of them. It's both of them or neither."

"What? Why?"

Monkey King shrugged, "No idea. But I wouldn't waste too much time thinking about it. Macaque summons them like once a millennium, usually just to annoy me. You won't see them again."

He couldn't say he was upset about that but he still couldn't get over Monkey King's preferences, "But Huì? Really?"

I think I found method in the Overwatch writers madness

Specifically on Kiriko's age.

So for a Tracer post I was making, specifically on Declassified, I talked about how Lena didn't age in the two years she was suffering from chronal dissociation. This made me curious on if Lena is actually 28 chronologically or biologically. So I ended up searching up Mei's Bio on the official website, which only lists her biological age.

Which means that Lena's listed age is probably her biological one...

Meaning if we go with the theory that Kiriko's connection to the fox spirit (or whatever technology she possesses) slows or stops her aging, then her bio wouldn't be her chronological age listed, but her biological one.

What furthers this is that when the inconstancies with Sojourns age was pointed out they changed it but they have not done the same for Kiriko, who has gotten just as much complaints, if not more, as Sojourns age. So why haven't they changed it considering both of these things have happened at the same time?

What furthers this even more was Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie (the Lead Narrative Designer and writer) response to the issue;

As someone who writes a lot of stories myself I don't see this as "oh we didn't think it through" I read this as "there is more to the story."

Now with Sojourn my reasoning didn't apply, that was a genuine mistake and an easy on to make as in present lore, Sojourn is more associated with the 2nd gen (characters in their late 30s-40s) so making her 47 made sense on paper but not with the rest of the history of the Overwatch lore. Making Sojourn 47 was a genuine mistake.

So if it was the same with Kiriko, why not her age too?

Because it wasn't a mistake, at least if we go with the "Kiriko doesn't age normally" theory. It also makes sense as to why Kiriko would have this ability and not the Shimadas. The Fox Spirit (or whatever science they use to explain Kiriko and the Shimada's powers) is used for healing while the Dragons are used for fighting. Hell Kiriko's ult actively up the performance of other heroes, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that something like the Fox Spirit, something that is literally a part of Kiriko, would have some biological benefits, such as slower aging.

Honestly this could just be me grasping at straws, I just find it weird that if the devs did make a mistake with Kiriko's age too then why didn't they change it with Sojourns.

Calyx or ******, is a well known actor! Just like his mother, Guānglían and Mei Dragon, he knows the in and outs when it comes to growing an audience.

Being a celebrity runs in the family, huh?

He had always admired actors and theatre, so much so, he pursued it.

No one knows the real him, often called as his stage name, Calyx, instead.

Like an actor, he hides/carefully avoids slip ups that might show the real him. He appears to be extroverted, a romantic, a person that knows what he's doing and is always one or two steps ahead. In reality, he's just putting up a show, in fear that the real him will be too much of a bore, fearing that one day they'll realize he's just a fraud.

For a person that wants to remain unseen, he genuinely wants to be found.

Longing for the person who cares enough to see right through his acts.

Somebody brought up about JJK getting a possible war arc as a new gen all because the manga ending in two chapters doesn't make sense if Mei Mei is gonna be out here murdering somebody that was connected to all jujutsu clans ...and u know what ..I kinda see it?

Because knowing gege it could literally all just end in the next two chapters with plot holes larger than the void itself or the next manga could literally be a new gen/ continuation of a possible war arc happening between all clans all cuz of sum Mei Mei had done to the one person that was literally tied to everybody

A Starter on B-Komachi Spotting

One of the things I most wish we knew more about in Oshi no Ko is B-Komachi - the peeks we get into their group dynamic in 45510 and especially Viewpoint B are always super interesting to me but in the manga itself, we get shockingly little info about them. We can't even match all their names to their faces! With a little sleuthing though, I've managed to identify three of the six unnamed members which should help us narrow down the remaining girls, with a bonus tinhoil hat headcanon that I'm going to finally table. With that said, let's give it a shot!

The No-Brainers

These ones are easy enough that I'm not giving myself any credit for them but I'm mentioning them for completion's sake. Hopefully if you care enough about Oshi no Ko to read this post you recognize Ai on sight, but did you know another B-Komachi member was identified by name too?

In the Episode 1 BTS video, some settei (concept art/animation refs) for the first episode's preproduction were shown and among them was a B-Komachi member.

At the bottom of the character turnaround, you can see the settei is labelled "めいめい" which is read as 'Meimei'. Case closed!

Interestingly, Mei is also namedropped in Viewpoint B and it stated to have written lyrics for at least one of B-Komachi's songs around when Ai was fourteen. Maybe we've got her to thank for Heart's♡Kiss?

The Deeper Digs

So, full disclosure – credit for this first ID goes to users thePermianwascool and ali94127 as they pointed out all these details in my Viewpoint B thread a few months ago. I'm just getting it all in one spot!

Viewpoint B, like 45510, is narrated by an unidentified B-Komachi member but we have just enough details about who she is in the story to put a face to her and it's the B-Komachi member in yellow with the penguin hairpin:

Her member colour is yellow

VB-chan left B-Komachi before the first gen disbanded and accordingly, Penguin Girl is one of the members missing from the final concert.

I don't think it's a stretch to call that one a slam dunk.

Interestingly, the fleeting connection between the Viewpoint B narrator and Ai is the heart of that sidestory and it meant enough to Ai that even years after that single conversation, she considers the narrator her closest friend in B-Komachi. And if you pay attention to the anime art, our Viewpoint B narrator suspect is almost always placed directly at Ai's side with a consistency that feels intentional.

Maybe Ai really did have a friend by her side all this time.

In addition to our narrator, Viewpoint B also identifies another B-Komachi member called Kanan. While this is not a name we've heard before, B-Komachi members are also referred to by fans by cute, affectionate nicknames in-universe. As such, it's possible that she is the 'Kyun' that Sarina refers to in episode/chapter 1.

The other identifying feature we're told about is Kanan's long, silky black hair. In the lineup there are only two unidentified B-Komachi members with long hair and only one with hair I would say reads as black to me.

Someone Stop This Girl Cooking

This part of the post is where I stray out of reasonable assumptions and into wild speculation territory but it's speculation I feel is backed up enough by the source that I don't want to entirely discount it. While this isn't strictly an ID, I do want to call attention to a character I think may be more important than she initially appears to be: the B-Komachi member in blue with the hamster hairpin.

Of the B-Komachi members, she is the only one other than Ai to have a distinctly fantastical hair colour - the other girls all have varying degrees of unnatural shades but Hampter Girl and Ai both stand out as having very distinctly 'anime' looking hair.

In addition, she is given a lot of passing but very notable focus but the anime's framing. She is one of the two other B-Komachi members who join Ai in the private performance of Sign wa B where the twins perform their lightstick dance and is the center of the trio of B-Komachi members we see at Ai's funeral.

Shun Sawai - one of episode 1's character designers and animators - also posted some official art that has her front and center of B-Komachi.

If these aren't just coincidences, it's possible she's being given some attention because she has some importance to the plot or the story as a whole. And why would that be?

So what if our Hamster Girl is the narrator of 45510?

If this is the case, that would make our Blue B-Komachi member one of the three founding girls paid homage to with Ai's passcode - Nino, Watanabe or Takamine. Picking entirely at random, I'm choosing to headcanon her as Takamine for the time being.

Paco's Sigma Gym Hits 💪

Phonk and Hardstyle are two genres that have been trending in gym culture, particularly in the "we go jim, you mirin brah" subculture of it. Many in this subculture are also anime enjoyers, so there is a nod to it via eurobeats and other references. Artists include: Kordhell, Hardstyle Gymbro, Initial D Soundtrack

Usagi's 🐰Random Play Dance🐰

Something about Usagi strikes me as a K-pop stan. Due to the oftentimes high intensity choreography, it's a huge trend to learn and perform dances on the fly, so this playlist doubles as Usagi's lists of dances to learn. It's a range of new and classic tunes. Artists include: NewJeans, BTS, ATEEZ

Charming's Ballad 🎀 Time

Going off how Charming loves Sia, Sza, and HER, he loves the pop soul and R&B genres. The artists chosen not only follow these genres but I like to think Charming likes to be in his feels by singing his heart out with any of these songs chosen. Artists include: Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish

Bobby Jean's Bops

Honestly, most of the music are things my parents love to listen to when they're my age, and Bobby Jean seems to be their age right now. I went with new wave particularly because that is their favorite genre, but sprinked a few classic 80s while I'm at it. Artists include: Tears for Fears, Modern Talking, Madonna

💕💀Lulu's Vibe💀💕

The overall vibe of this playlist is "who's parents let their kids listen to this type of music?" but all the songs have been known on TikTok for audio edits and other trends. This also pairs well with the hyperpop mixed into the list as well. Artists include: Ayesha Erotica, Ice Spice, Lil Mariko

From 15-17th gen the ones I see being real ace material are Rio and Mei. In fact a double ace of those two would be nice as they compliment. Riley and Ako should be visual centers in promotional material like video thumbnails, single covers, etc. Homatan should get the juicy one-liners like Sayu and Haruka should get a big line in each song like Colorful era Sakura. But since 2016 UFA has little sense or ingenuity so they’ll choose someone who isn’t most popular, isn’t center or ace material and not use members according to their strengths.

Quirk: Mermaid - The user has a fishy appearance, with fin-like ears, webbing between fingers, scales on their body, sharp teeth, and eyes with split pupils. They also can breathe in water and have some hydrokinesis.

Personality notes: Very dramatic. Absolute theatre kid.

Miku (ミク)

Born: 2X70

Gender: Female

Quirk: Time Jump - The user can transport themselves or others through Time. Those affected will be sent to a different point in time for 3-5 days(spending both 3-5 days in the other time and reappearing the same amount of time after their departure). Though the affected people can change past events, they will just create a new branched Timeline and will be returned to their own Timeline so they cannot truly effect things(it doesn’t keep people from wanting to try). Those effected will be sent somewhen along their own Timeline, but it is currently randomized. In theory she could strengthen her Quirk to be more accurate, to be more used at will to jump around, or to 'return' people to altered Timelines. But it would take practice.

Little Menace/Miyuki (光幸)

Quirk: Inheritance - User can pull any Quirk out of their DNA. This must be the Quirk of a direct ancestor. So they can pull a grandparent's Quirk, but they can't use an uncle's. They must have the Quirk active to gain it's passive effects. For example: if they have a Quirk that provides passive fireproofing, they are only fireproof if that Quirk is active.

Parents: Izuku, Katsuki, Ochako, Eijiro, Shoto (biological to all five, made through a Quirk)

Personality Notes: Always down to cause problems, but a good person at heart

Gear Gremlin/Gumi(紅深)

Kanade 花奏

Gender: Female

Quirk: Techno-Screen Teleportation - The user can essentially use screens as portals. They can take items with them, but they cannot take other people. (She also has her mom's ear cords, but the picrew doesn't have anything for me to add them lmao.)

Parents: Momo, Kyoka(bio), Denki(bio), Hitoshi

Personality Notes: Intimidating as fuck especially with the punk rock look but very sweet. Favorite prank is to swap places with her brother.

Amane(天音)

Born: 2X77

Gender: Male

Quirk: Technopathy - The user can control technology. This is limited by the fact that it must have an earphone jack they can 'plug into'. (Obvs he also has his mom's ear cords, but the picrew won't let me add them lmao)

Parents: Momo, Kyoka(bio), Denki(bio), Hitoshi

Personality Notes: Seems more refined than his sister, but is the more ruthless of the two. Not that he isn't nice, of course. Favorite prank is to swap places with his sister.

Hibiki (響)

Gender: Female

Quirk: Vocal Mimicry - Can mimic any sound. From other's voices to straight up noises.

Personality notes: While she seems to be the voice of reason, that is only in comparison to her siblings. Absolute baby of the family

Akiko (影子)

Gender: Male

Quirk: Shadow Tongue(unfortunately not pictured for picrew reasons). The user's mouth is a void of shadow. They can control this void like a prehensile 'tongue'.

Personality notes: Quiet, a bit of a prankster, but also the first one to put jokes aside when they have to be serious.

Gender: Female

Quirk: Hummingbird - the user is an anthropomorphic bird, specifically Hummingbird, with similar abilities such as speedy flight. User can also control feathers plucked off their body, though the feathers can't be reattached and will eventually 'die' and lose connection.

Personality notes: Shy when it comes to people, but an absolute daredevil.

Shadow Monkeys

Summary: There are some odd monkeys on the other side of the island and MK and Bǎi Hé are excited to meet them.

On the other side of the island, about as far from Water Curtain Cave as you could get, there was a much smaller mountain that hid an extensive library. And as impressive as it was, MK couldn't help but roll his eyes at the dark and gothic decor - there were no prizes to be won for guessing who it belonged to.

But while the library was cool and all, it was its occupants that he was really interested in. Because there was a whole troupe of silent, dark-furred monkeys that lived here in harmony with an uncountable number of shadow elementals.

He'd never even heard of shadow elementals before, let alone seen one and he couldn't say for certain he wouldn't have preferred to live in ignorant bliss. They existed as purely 2D creatures moving over every surface in the library. And while he was sure they couldn't physically harm him, the way they moved and changed shapes made him uncomfortable.

And he wasn't convinced they weren't deliberately trying to freak him out. Because why else would several of them come together to form some huge, monstrous silhouette while his back was turned and then only scatter once he'd all but tripped over himself in fear?

And he swore it was just him they were doing it to!

But as sour as he was about that, it was fascinating to watch the monkeys interact with them. All of the monkeys were impressive shadow puppeteers, able to contort their hands, or even their whole bodies, in elaborate ways in order to communicate with the elementals.

He couldn't really understand what they were saying to each other but he could see that the two groups liked to play with one another. Monkeys would chase and "catch" elementals using their shadows or elementals would lead monkeys to a surprise with a series of clues. He was even confident there was some sort of shadow version of Rock, Paper, Scissors being played.

If the elementals didn't give him the creeps he probably would have thought the whole thing was pretty cute. Bǎi Hé definitely seemed to think so, and she wasn't at all put off by the elementals, but given the shadow lantern hanging from her belt he wasn't at all surprised.

She had wandered away from him a while ago to squat by a monkey and an elemental to try and learn the rules of their game so she could join in.

When they had first arrived, it had taken several sharp warnings to both the monkeys and the elementals to stop them swarming either Macaque or Bǎi Hé. Some of them were curious about him too but clearly lacking any sort of shadow magic made him significantly less appealing.

He wandered over to where Macaque was going through a stack of books looking for whatever it was they'd come here for in the first place. To be honest, he hadn't been paying that much attention - he had just wanted to tag along and see what the fuss was about.

Conversationally, he asked, "So what's with the monkeys? Red Son and Mei have theories and I'm really hoping they're both wrong."

He'd, of course, been sending live updates of his adventure to their group chat - including pictures and videos - and it hadn't taken them long to put on their conspiracy hats.

Red Son suggestions centred around the theme of Mad Scientist Macaque manufacturing them for some, possibly nefarious, purpose and he deliberated whether these were the intended outcome or simply failed experiments that he had locked away here.

Mei was pretty convinced Macaque had just banged a load of monkeys back in the day and these were his many, many descendants but given these were monkeys and not demons that theory sort of gave him the ick.

Not turning away from his task, Macaque responded, "Just what generations of hanging around with shadow elementals will do to you."

He was exceedingly grateful Mei was wrong but that didn't necessarily rule out Red Son's theory.

"Yeah, why are there so many of those here? I swear I've never seen them anywhere else."

Macaque shrugged, "They tend to show up anywhere I spend a lot of time but you can find them out in the world - normally somewhere dark and quiet."

Well that would explain why he never came across them - dark and quiet generally wasn't his scene. It was actually just on the edge of too dark in here as it was and he kept having to use his golden vision just to make sure he didn't walk into anything.

Curious he asked, "How come there's none back at the palace? You spent loads of time there too, right?"

Most of the palace inside Water Curtain Cave probably didn't have the right conditions for them but there definitely was the odd tunnel or abandoned room they would find themselves right at home at.

Macaque explained, "I didn't spend that much time in the palace. But they don't like being around Wukong either. His magic hurts them. I'm actually a little surprised they're fine around you. Especially with your eyes becoming beacons of light every two minutes. Although it could just be because of how saturated with shadow magic this place has become they're able to tolerate it."

A little sheepish, he silently resolved to try and use his golden vision less. It was probably really annoying for everyone here if he was randomly glowing after all. Hopefully his eyes would actually adjust to the darkness if he gave them a chance.

He pushed on however, a little surprised at Macaque's response, "You didn't spend that much time in the palace? How come? I thought you lived there."

"I have a room there but let's say I wasn't particularly welcome most of the time. Wukong and most of the monkeys were happy to have me there. The other demons though? Not so much."

Despite not having the full story, he found himself immeasurably sad on Macaque's behalf but before he could question further he was startled by Bǎi Hé's voice suddenly appearing right beside him, "People don't like things they don't understand."

Macaque nodded, still not turning around, "Doesn't matter when or where you are you can always rely on that to be true."

Man, he forgot what a downer Macaque could be.

And seeing the sad acceptance on Bǎi Hé's face, he felt compelled to argue. But his passionate speech about the good in people was stopped before it could even start as a monkey used his head as a spring board to catch a moth.

Bǎi Hé snorted before bringing a hand up to stifle her laughter. He glared at the monkey but they seemed much more interested in Bǎi Hé's laughter, climbing up her clothes and coming to sit on her shoulder while trying to get a closer look at where the sound was coming from, which only prompted more laughter.

He couldn't keep up the glare, it was nice to hear Bǎi Hé sounding so happy after all.

Back to safer topics, he nodded towards the monkey and asked, "These little guys just hang about the library all the time?"

Macaque responded, "They do during the day - they're mostly nocturnal but you can find them outside in the surrounding area at night. They're pretty sensitive to sunlight."

He posed thoughtfully, "They're like the total opposite of the monkeys back at the cave - do you think they would get on with each other?"

Macaque shrugged, "No idea. They're far enough apart that it'd be rare for them to run into each other."

Maybe he was just hardwired to like monkeys but these little guys were growing on him - they definitely had some unique quirks but they were still island monkeys, "Would it be ok if I came and hung out with them when you're not here?"

"It's your island, Monkey King."

He scrunched up his nose, "I mean, technically yeah, but this is your place. These are your monkeys."

Macaque's tone was indifferent, "They don't belong to me and this place hasn't been mine for centuries - do what you want."

He frowned but Bǎi Hé piped up, "Can I stay here for a bit then?" She shot him a somewhat apologetic look, "The palace is sort of a lot..."

"Knock yourself out."

MK sagged a little at Bǎi Hé's admission. He had been the one to all but force her to take a break from her travels, and he thought she'd been enjoying her stay.

She was quick to reassure him, "I'll still come visit you in the palace! It is nice seeing you all! It's just a bit much when you're not used to it..."

The sound of her misplaced guilt had him picking himself up and trying to respond more upbeat than he felt, "I get it. We are all pretty high energy, even I need a break from it all now and then! But can I at least help you get set up here? We can tidy up and then go grab some supplies from the palace."

At least this way she was still close by.

She smiled, "I'd appreciate that, MK. C'mon, let's go find the best place for a bed first."

He turned back to Macaque to check that he was okay with this plan but he was met with an irritated look that told him just to get on with it already.

Geez, sorry for trying to be considerate.

Macaque could tell him all day this place and its inhabitants didn't mean anything to him but it really wasn't hard to spot his tells that sold him out - a little solid shadow here and there to play with monkeys, his shadow moving independently to pet a close by elemental, the care in which he showed the books he held.

All of it told him that this place mattered, that it was important, and if Macaque was entrusting him with its care then he would do everything he could to make sure no harm came to it.
