A/B/O verse...

Beta Zack and Omega Cloud are on the run from Shinra and Cloud is still unconscious... but even totally out of it and unable to respond he still goes into heat. Zack is stuck trying to figure out how to help, having never dealt with anything like this before.

Could have someone showing up to help, like perhaps one of the Turks or even Genesis - I definitely like the idea of Alpha OR Omega Genesis knowing what to do and help them!

Zack: No.

Cloud: Did you take the chicken out the freezer like I asked?

Zack: No.

Cloud: What have you done successfully today?

Zack: I didn't cry when I got out of bed.

*Cloud gives him a gold star*

Thank you so much for the ask! :D I'm going to stick to who I've written so far, but that's still quite a few to think about! I hope you enjoy my silly/angsty/cute snippets. :3 Genesis He annotates the crap out of any book he owns. Don't get me wrong, he's got pristine copies of all editions of LOVELESS reserved for viewing only, but he's also got versions exclusively for scribbling notes and interpretations in the margins. In one particular copy, though, the notes start to get choppier, rougher, more...unhinged, as the degradation drags from months into years and his desperation for a cure deepens, particularly after the Nibelheim incident. Angeal This man can take a nap anywhere. Up a tree, in a rock crevice, in a military truck that's careening into every pothole by a careless driver... Angeal is the king of shuteye in unlikely places. It's very handy on rough missions. Sephiroth Likes to exercise his authority as a First to refuse any SOLDIER missions that even vaguely assist Hojo's research out of sheer spite. Genesis is incredibly proud of him. Zack This guy is a chaos cook, and by that I mean he just throws whatever crap he has available into a pan and just vibes. The 'throw anything together' habit he picked up from Angeal, yes, but he missed the 'think about sensible flavour combinations' part. Cloud He's a nervous fidgeter and has a lot of anxious energy that needs to escape. Drumming his fingers, leg bouncing, fiddling with his earring, picking skin, you name it. This behaviour is more prominent in his infantry days, too. Cissnei She's a collector, and by that I mean a collector of small keepsakes and trinkets found on missions around the world. Being raised in a orphanage meant that she barely had any possessions growing up, so she treasured anything that was hers and hers alone. Sometimes it's silly things from gift shops, or interesting rocks, feathers, scales, etc.

(She definitely kept a feather from that Genesis copy in Sector 8, for example.) Lazard You think this bloke only started embezzling money from ShinRa when Genesis defected? Not a chance. A lot of it gets funnelled to his non-ShinRa relatives, but also gets channelled into charitable projects around Midgar supporting people of the slums.

It all started so simply — which, looking back at it, should have been Cloud’s first and largest red flag. Nothing in his life was ever anything other than complicated. He was “that Strife boy”, Nibelheim’s town bastard, almost an entire town’s dirty little secret.

(Not his mom’s though. Never his mom’s. She would always press a kiss to his crown of spikes that was so much like her own and tell him that he was her wonder. A gift from the gods themselves.)

But it all started so simply…

It started with a mandatory paternity test as a part of joining the SOLDIER program.

Getting to SOLDIER hadn’t been so simple. That had begun with an unlikely friendship between Zack Fair and some poor trooper with unfortunate amounts of motion sickness. Zack, upon hearing about Cloud’s dream to be in the program and his numerous failures at doing so, had thrown himself into helping Cloud train for the next exam.

“That’s what friends do, spikey!”

Hand to hand, sword work, physical conditioning, even materia… or, well, Zack had tried to teach Cloud Materia to… some success which had in turn led to the second complication.

Genesis had stumbled upon their training one day just in time to see Cloud blast Zack back with a spell that shouldn’t be able to do that yet again and had all but claimed Cloud as his own.

“Artificial materia has a different concentration of mako, dearest,” He had said, running the back of gloved fingers over Cloud’s cheek. “And your exposure to mako from living in a place so dense with it has changed you too. Try this instead.” He had slotted a new orb of materia, naturally formed and from his own collection no less, into Cloud’s borrowed bracer like he was sealing a wedding vow.

(And knowing Genesis as well as he did now, that was probably not far off the mark. The dramatic bastard had claimed to have fallen in love from the moment he first saw Cloud “knock the puppy on his ass even with those terribly mis matched materia”, and Genesis Rhapsodos was nothing if not determined when it came to getting what he wanted.

Still, Cloud couldn’t deny that it was nice to be wanted for once… just like he couldn’t deny that Genesis was a skilled teacher both on the mats and in his bedroom where he had Cloud seeing the goddess herself when he did that thing with his fingers.)

But a paternity test made sense, in a way. Cloud had said he never knew his father, and since he was now officially a SOLDIER third, he would start getting attention. Considering how much he looked like his mother, it wouldn’t be a leap to assume people might start coming out of the woodwork to make claims, and such a scandal would look bad for Shinra in the long run. It… probably also didn’t help that Cloud looked enough like Rufus and Lazard that rumors had already begun to spread of another Shirna bastard.

But the results had not been the simple answer.

Nor had they been the slightly more complicated one that, while annoying, would have made a strange sort of sense considering how he looked and proximity to the Shinra manor.

No, Cloud’s results were so complicated that the poor tech that had been running the tests had so so three times to be sure.

And then Cloud was angry. Angry that his mother had been left alone with no money to support her. Angry he had grown up hated by an entire village because some bastard couldn’t be bothered to stick around. Angry that the truth had been under his nose the whole time and he had never seen it.

He had snatched the results from the poor tech and stomped his way to the private lab in the center of the Science Department hardly noting the flustered scientists and techs trying to stop him through the red haze in his mind. The locked door didn’t stand a chance against the mastered fire materia Genesis had gifted him for making it through his training, melting straight through the lock so Cloud could kick the door inwards.

He didn’t notice the second person in the room as he hurled the file of results at a rather unimpressed face. Didn’t care.

“Nice to meet you, dad,” Cloud all but spit between clenched teeth.

Hojo didn’t do much as blink. If anything he shrugged. “Ah. The control group.”

Cloud didn’t remember trashing the lab. Didn’t remember the too familiar face at his side that helped him do it. He did however remember the aftermath with his head in his hands and the Silver General himself awkwardly patting his back as he had a complete mental breakdown.

“It’s what brothers are supposed to do… isn’t it?” Sephiroth had said like to made all the sense in the world. Like any of this made fucking sense.

Cloud Strife had gone from no father to one that saw him as an experiment in all of twenty minutes and now his childhood idol who was actually his half brother was trying to comfort him. It was too much. He needed a drink. He needed a fucking cigarette. He needed —

“Genesis,” He murmured, all but scrambling for his PHS to send off a message. If anyone could make it all make sense it was Gen, or at least, Gen would stand beside him as he burned the world to the ground. Either way, all Cloud wanted at that moment was something that made sense.

Unfortunately, that single word had made Sephiroth recognize exactly who Cloud was other than “some new recruit” or perhaps “Zack’s friend” and his green eyes narrowed as this hands that had been awkwardly patting him tightened possessively.

“You’re the trooper that is dating Genesis.” It wasn’t a question. Sephiroth didn’t wait for an answer. “Genesis slept with my brother.”

And then Cloud Strife’s life became very complicated all at once.

Someone asked @altocat about Genesis' parenting and this sprang to mind from my Dads of SOLDIER AU.

Baby Cloud: Papa I want to stay up all night

Genesis: Ok, baby, just don't do anything dangerous

Angeal: GENESIS, AN ENHANCED TODDLER UP ALL NIGHT *IS* *DANGEROUS*

The next day when Cloud has been screaming for 3 hours because he's too tired to go to sleep...

Angeal: Well? What have we learned?

Genesis Regretsodos: ...

Cloud: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Zack: Angeal I can't take it anymore I'm about to start screaming too. Heck. Heck. Heck. Heck. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Sephiroth: *crying and rocking in a corner, hands over noise cancelling headphones*

Cloud: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Zack: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Angeal: Well?

Genesis Regretsodos: ...maybe sleep is important for toddlers

cloud and zack going to gongaga together and sitting under a tree with clouds head laying on zacks lap, exchanging stories and memories before falling asleep and taking a nap together as the leaves fall around them on a warm spring day

alternatively, genesis and sephiroth trying to do the same thing in banora with sephiroth falling asleep in genesis’ lap while genesis reads loveless for like the millionth time but genesis starts falling asleep too, causing him to drop the book on sephiroth’s face, with the spine of the hard cover book hitting sephiroth just right and giving sephiroth a black eye (and that was also the first and only hit genesis ever truly landed on sephiroth, and it was on complete accident which absolutely infuriates genesis)(even more infuriating to genesis is the fact that shortly after he accidentally gave sephiroth the black eye, a dumb apple fell from the tree onto his head)

Zack: Fitness tip: Never stop pushing yourself. Some say 8 hours of sleep is enough. Why not keep going? Why not 9? Why not 10? Strive for greatness.

Genesis: Next time you’re working out do 15 push ups instead of 10. Run 3 miles instead of 2. Eat a whole cake instead of one slice. Burn your ex’s house down. You can do it. I believe in you.

Cloud: There are so many mixed messages in that I can’t-

addendum to my pre ask. The only breedable man in Shinra, besides Cloud, is Steve from accountant.

Steve from accounting doesn't exist, he's just the go-to made-up person everyone uses when they need an excuse.

Angeal: You look good. Why are you all dressed up?

Genesis: I have a date.

Angeal: With who?

Genesis: Uhh....Steve from accounting.

(Later)

Angeal: Where were you last night?

Cloud: I slept out.

Angeal: Where?

Cloud: At a...friend's place.

Angeal: Which friend?

Cloud: Steve....from accounting.

(Even later)

Angeal: Zack, are you aware you have a lipstick mark on your neck?

Zack: Oh, I guess I do.

Angeal: Who did that to you?

Zack: .....Steve from accounting.

Angeal: Man, this Steve guy is super popular.

Sephiroth: My name is so odd to hear, I often wish I had a different name entirely.

Angeal: Like what?

Sephiroth: I don't know. Anything. Steve, for example.

Self-aware au

Sephiroth

Had dreams about you when he was a kid especially when he got his treatments or had to go on long missions 

One of the reasons he didn’t snap earlier is thinking about the being in his dreams 

He sees you sometimes when he’s on dangerous missions and that's how he gages how much power to use

He stopped seeing you for a few years and was distraught

Did he do something wrong? Is he destined to be alone? Did he do something to make you hate him?

Then he assisted Zack and spotted your image beside him

It’s another reason he was open with Zack and called him to help save Gen and Angeal

After he snapped and injured Zack he saw you disappear again and almost let out a sob

After falling into the lifestream Jenova tells him to get you back he has to kill the planet

When he spots you with Cloud he targets him to join him so he can see you beside him again

He wants to be with you even if that means transcending his world and finding a way to yours

He saw you for the first time when he joined SOLDIER and thought you were a hallucination

But when you started to hype him up he realised maybe you were something else- plus no one else had seen you

He sulked when he noticed you couldn’t really interact with him but he loves you being around him and answers your musings even if he knows you can’t hear him

When Sephiroth saved him he spotted you looking at his superior with a sadness surrounding you

When he escaped with Cloud you seemed to focus on both of them and that confused him because you only ever acted like that around the general

As he lay there dying his eyes trail to your figure sobbing next to Cloud

He thinks you've always been with him until he gets his memories back

He chatters to you when he’s alone

Is more annoyed then Zack ever was when he notes you cant see him

When he meets Areith he feels two sparks (one from you and one from Zack)

As time goes on (and depending what ff your playing) he can feel sephiroth’s memories seep into his mind

As he regains his real memories he starts to see you as some type of deity or he would get angry and blame you

As he fights Sephiroth he spots you looking solemnly at them 

That makes him want to fight harder

One of the reasons she’s at the church so much is because she feels your presence more

She thought Holy place = more connection?

She didn’t know what you were just that you brought a peace when she thought of you

Like Sephiroth She had dreams of you when she was little and that's when she realised something wasn’t right

If your presence is with the MC at the time as soon as she meets Zack she can spot an almost static image of you beside him

When Zack fell into the church and she saw you she knew Zack was safe to be around

The same thing happened when cloud showed up

She noticed you only looked her way when the group is in battle (because you can switch between party members)

As she lets the lifestream consume her she can hear your sobs

So Genesis didn’t die, right? So how would he react when he found out that everyone he knew and cared about (save possibly Cloud, but Cloud isn’t ‘Cloud’ anymore.) passed away?

I definitely think that post-canon Gen definitely suffers from intense survivor's guilt. Doesn't help that his Jenova cells make it to where he is functionally immortal, doomed to wander the planet without his best friends at his side.

Genesis soothes the loss by hanging around with Cloud's group for a bit, eventually breaking off to cement himself as the planet's greatest protector. Over the centuries, he comes across ripples of Sephiroth's malice still plaguing the world, though he can never find a way to truly reconcile with his old friend. In time, he finds his redemption in the retrieval of Lucrecia, designating himself her personal protector, a kind of surrogate son in Sephiroth's place. He also becomes close friends with Vincent as they wait out eternity together, easing some of the loneliness that threatens to consume them.

Ultimately, it's a very solitary life, as well as a bittersweet one. But Genesis manages as best he can. And, in time, it is ultimately he who becomes one of the planet's new founding fathers long after society has fallen. And it is he who remains to recite the tragedy of Sephiroth, the sacrifice of Zack, and the coming of Cloud for generations to come.

At long last, he has fables of his very own.

Nice Cloud things that are pure headcanon but I like to think about (AGSZC friendship):

When Genesis first gets to know Cloud they bond over their mythology knowledge. Gen finds it fascinating to listen to Cloud about Fenrir and the old Nibel gods. Likewise Cloud is very interested about how Genesis worships the goddess. They end up doing some joint ceremonies together because their the only strongly religious people in the friend group.

Cloud is actually an excellent artist. He drew a lot when he was a kid and is mostly self taught. He bought some books when he got to midgar about colour theory and proper techniques and uses art as a way to destress often.

Following that he doesn’t really show his Sketch book to anyone, but Angeal has seen some of his art after they found out they had watercolours in common. It’s nice to sit with him and paint from time to time.

Cloud twirls his hair when he zones out or is comfortable enough to stim with people. When he was little he used to sit with his thumb in his mouth and his other hand twisting his hair. As an adult he usually only stims around Zack and his mom… though he has been known to let his guard down around Angeal too.

The first time he had a conversation with Sephiroth he very bluntly told him that he had split ends. He was later mortified but Zack and Genesis were on the floor Laughing.

He leans his head on peoples shoulders when he feels really safe. The first time Zack experienced this he actually cried. They’d all been talking after dinner and suddenly Cloud had plonked his head on Zack’s shoulder and closed his eyes. No one’s allowed to call it sweet or adorable. Cloud will murder them.

Kunsel once caught Cloud taking dog treats to the K-9 unit kennels. When asked why he liked it in there cloud replied “they don’t treat me differently. To them I’m the greatest person ever because I scratch their ears and feed them. I don’t have to perform.” Kunsel had to take a minute to compose himself in the brake room after that.

There is an older gentleman in the slums who stops to talk to Cloud every time he patrols. Cloud doesn’t really know why this man likes him so much, but he often finds himself helping the man carry his shopping bags and fixing his porch light. Cloud gets two days off a week and eventually he saves one of those every week to go and have tea with the man.

Cloud keeps most of his valuable things in Zacks spare room after a couple of cruel Cadets strung the contents of his footlocker across the parade square. Zack thinks of the room as “Clouds room” anyway, and he’s there most nights.

Cloud never used to like his birthday as a kid. His mom always used to try her best to make it special but Cloud felt guilty that she made herself bend over backwards just to make him a cake. With the first pay check he gets as an infantryman he sends her a gift on his birthday and hers to thank her for loving him.

Later when he’s friends Zack, they go on a trip to Gongaga and then Nibelheim to compare notes on backwater upbringings and to be spoiled by both mothers. Claudia makes him a cake and Cloud tells her he loves her so much.
