I just realized that Pidge and Allura are the two that are closest in age on the Castle ship at the beginning of the show and that changes the way I view the entire dynamic of Team Voltron

Okay, if you were asked who are in Merlin BBC & Voltron that you can see based on canon that are gay/bi/pan/demi, which characters are they? Why?

BBC Merlin

Arthur Pendragon is, in my head, demiromantic and bisexual... It sort of depends on the circumstances/episode. Arthur needs a very long time to really feel connections with people and only starts to consider love after he really gets to know them, hence his constant search for true love in the show. With Merlin I'm not entirely sure if he was attracted to him instantly, strangely enough feeling a connection from the moment they met, or if it takes him till the end of the series when Merlin confesses his magic and finally shows his true self to realise the depth of his feelings.

Merlin is, well... Bi Bi Bi. A disaster bi in fact. With a preference for sweaty men in metal boxes, he's not very peculiar. However, Merlin is a one person hyperfixation kind of guy. Most people are convinced that Merlin's gay.

Gwen: I feel like most people in BBC Merlin are bi and Gwen is no exception. Like Merlin, she prefers the hero type in metal uniforms. But she also had a thing for Morgana in the beginning.

Morgana: lesbian. I have never seen a woman so disinterested in men, I'm not surprised that they casted Katie McGrath in supergirl as supergirls love interest. I might settle for homoromantic and asexual. But definitly in love with Gwen in the very beginning.

Sir Leon, my beloved, the immortal, the one and only, the eternal suffering aro/ace. I don't have to explain this one. The only counter moment is the Lamia episode where Leon suddenly develops interest in women out of nowhere. My personal take is that anyone could be fallen under a Lamia's spell, this one just had a taste for men (and male presenting).

Sir Elian: once upon a time I clocked them as nonbinary and sadly that's as far as I thought into this character. Pretty sure he's aromantic. He/they pronouns. I dunno, I don't think Elian would conform to anything if given a choice. Aromantic too, I think. Like Leon, there is no interest there, but he does play around with Percival and Gwaine quite often, so I'd take that as allosexual.

I am excluding Gwaine because I think canon Gwaine is written as a straight oblivious fuckboy. Albeit a kind one XD fanon Gwaine is often poly/ pan... Or into apples. Lmao XD and I'm not sure about Percival because the man has a dead wife and kids.

Voltron

Keith: with his lack of interest in women, he can only be gay. That man looks at no one quite the same as he looks at Lance. what the hell was the whole bonding thing if not a hint for post canon klance? Sorry, not sorry XD rivals to best friends to lovers.

Lance: *bi bo bi* bisexual lighting Lance. Doesn't matter if you prefer klance or shallura, this man is a walking bi flag. I don't know what you mean by proof, just look at this wiggly boy with the fingerguns. He can't even sit straight! Can't do math either. He's perfect!

Shiro: probably the only character in my entire history of shipping that I would unqueer without feeling bad about it. I know he's gay, I just don't really see it in the writing. Of course there aren't always clear signs that someone is gay which is why this is good rep actually (+he's married), but you asked me for proof in the show and all I see is that this man is a dad. That's his gender and his orientation and that's all I really need to know.

Pidge: aro/ace because I love my aroaces and this child loves robots and robots only. Also nonbinary/genderqueer. Pronouns: fuck/off XD

I think Lotor should have been bi. Pre-canon Lotor had us Langsters ship Lotor x Lance and it was so much fun :D

Coran: the georgous man is either gay or pan. More likely pan because I vaguely remember he had a son?

Genderqueer pidge is so real to me. I literally started watching Voltron because someone in a Roblox game told me there was a trans & gay rep,I assumed at the time that meant it was canon but not really, they didn't play with pidges gender at all it was super disappointing

regarding the identity ask post, I ask you Question 3!!

3: list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.

OOGH man I've had so many over the years... lemme just lay out the ones I can remember:

Cave Story (Before I was even REALLY on the internet): It might be kind of basic, but I really like Curly. I also really liked Sue, but mostly because I was like "who wouldn't wanna become a cute fluffy mimiga!?"

MLP:FiM (Brony to Pegasister Pipeline): It's a constant tossup between Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy. Can't ever settle on whether the nerd horse or the shy horse inside me is more powerful.

Voltron: Legendary Defenders (didn't finish it, heard it was bad): I was lowkey obsessed with Pidge. Something about "this boyish character is, despite that exterior, really a girl" fascinated me. Of course I just chalked it up to "I just think she's smart and cute" at the time. (and I'm sure there are all kinds of gender headcanons for Pidge that have formed since then)

UNDERTALE (Baby's first Tumblr Fandom): There's lots of great characters, but I think I have to pick Alphys because I thought she was the coolest "main" character until I heard a youtuber use her specifically as an example for "making characters annoying can be a good thing sometimes." (I think he oversimplifying for his point, but like... looking back I think I was missing the tone of her character at the time.)

Steven Universe (I even had a post go 50+ notes once): Peridot. As soon as she was separated from her limb enhancers I was like "short pajama queen. Loves tech just like me." (I will note to keep the gender thread going that I felt a LOT of things when Stevonnie shaved with their sword in that Alone Together episode. I didn't have words for any of it at the time of course.)

OneShot (the one by Nightmargin): Silver. (look I just like robot girls, alright? If I considered myself a fan of My Life as a Teenage Robot I'd have Jenny Wakemen here too in a heartbeat).

Homestuck (I came in around Act 7): It was really funny that for the run of the entire comic I was like "I really like John Eggbert. He's like the token normal straight kid in a story full of off-the-wall-wild gay people. =]" and then all the other things I related to were quickly adapted into June Eggbert headcanons. (my egg did not survive this) (and I'm all the better for it)

Little Witch Academia (Still my Favorite Anime): LOTTE JENSON my beloved! Quiet little bookish girl with big glasses who learns to stand up for herself and her friends!!! (I would later base a whole DnD character on her personality, character design, and flavor of magic)

Spare Parts (go play it): How much therapy do I need if I say Lucy? Helpful to a fault? Self-sacrificial? Gender(tm)? The prognosis doesn't get any better if I pick Unit-01 instead, right?

honestly jim provides such fucking cathartic nonbinary representation for me, bc for the longest time I’ve just had to see myself in female characters who “cross dress” as guys for whatever reason, yet they still have a sort of disconnect from both genders that’s never elaborated on (yellow from pokémon, haruhi from ouran, pidge from voltron, ETCETERA) so every time I come across one of these characters I keep fucking hoping that they’re nonbinary, bc to have a character seamlessly switch between male & female ENTIRELY based on what’s most convenient is SO FUCKING NONBINARY!!!! And yet! Cis writers Never! Fucking! Do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (& IM STILL MAD ABT WHAT HAPPENED WITH PIDGE! & ESPECIALLY HARUHI!! & YOU KNOW WHAT YELLOW TOO)

and then… Jim.

Jim presents as a man for the beginning part of the series, then this is quickly revealed to not be in line with who they truly are. when their birth sex is discovered, sure “Jim is actually a woman??” Is thrown around a lot, but when they’re actually asked about it? They say “I don’t know” in response to being asked if they’re really a woman. They say just keep calling me Jim. And then from then on, they are referred to with they/them pronouns and the name Jim, because that’s what they’re comfortable with. Simple as that.

With all those other examples of this dumbass trope, though the characters had clear preferences for being seen as NO particular binary gender, their genderqueerness was swept under the rug and their supposed “true” genders were constantly asserted by those around them. but Jim just gets to be Jim. No fucking sweat.
