Whispers of Lilies: A Jily Short Story
I wrote a 2,500 word Jily Hanahaki fanfic. If you're wondering if this is out of my norm, yes it is. But the story was calling to me and I couldn't resist writing it. Hanahaki absolutely screams Jily to me.
An excerpt:
"Lily there they are again," Mary whispered in the hallway between the Charms and Potions classroom on a Tuesday.
"Look I see more!" Marlene cried out late on a Friday night as she, Mary, and Lily all returned to the Gryffindor common room.
"There's more blood on these than the last ones," Lily said slowly on a Wednesday morning as she took in the mess in the greenhouse.
It had started a few weeks earlier: flower petals throughout the castle. Lily had never seen anything like it before, but she knew the old witch's tale: when unrequited love became too much, it began to consume the lover's very being. Flowers would grow in the lungs, causing the lover to cough up bloody flowers. The realm of magic was called Hanahaki, and it was incurable. Whoever was suffering was deeply in love with someone who didn't love them back, and their body was slowly succumbing to their mental anguish over it.
"There's so much blood," Marlene agreed. A week ago, it was just a trickle. Whoever it is must be getting sicker.
Lily nodded, a sinking feeling in her stomach. Because these weren't just any flowers, they were lilies. And everyone who understood Hanahaki magic knew that that very likely meant that the person was in love with Lily herself.
"It's got to be James Potter, right?" Mary asked. Even as she spoke, there was regret in her tone.
"James Potter's love is not pure," Lily scoffed. She knew enough about James' childish nature to know that him calling out to her across the grass was just for his entertainment. Him staring at her across the lunch table was for attention. When he picked up her books and offered to carry them, it was to play act as a hero.
James Potter was no sincere lover.
It's on AO3 here!

I love thinking about how if Blake went up to Yang right now and told her "I love you," I don't... think Yang would know how to react to it. Not in a silly, "oh what a gay disaster" way, but in a "Yang has abandonment issues and has never been loved in the deep, all-encompassing way Blake loves her, which she absolutely reciprocates, so would she even know how to accept that love for herself" kind of way.
Blake and Yang need to talk about Yang's abandonment issues and the way she values the people she loves over herself to her own detriment before their relationship can move forward and that's why I was so anti-reunion kiss and why I don't expect them to kiss before the last half or third of the volume. They can continue being stupidly cute together before then though, so I don't even mind.

are u planning to do anything with charlotte? the ghost hotel girl?
or minty?
i actually did have an idea for a short comic about them, but i really forgot about it until around a few months ago when i drew up a few potential redesigns for both of them. they're really still up in the air - i might end up selling them as adopts, but i do actually want to do something with them!
(also, here are the redesign sketches from around may-ish? i might end up finishing these designs when i'm in the mood to draw more halloweeny stuff, though they'll probably look a lot different as my artstyle + chara design work has improved)
(the minty pic is also for an unfinished ref sheet!)

Can we all agree that Raphie needs a mother figure the most?
Why would he need a mom when there's a perfectly good Leo right there?? Basically the same thing
Jokes aside, yeah most continuities I can agree. The one that needs an extra parental figure most is usually Raph. Though I believe all of them would've had a higher quality life/childhood if they had a mother. Mikey, Donnie, and Raph would be such momma's boys, and I think that would be so sweet.
But context and character dynamics are important, it really only works in theory. So most likely a continuity with a healthy relationship between Yoshi/Tang Shen and they got mutated together or they stay together after only one gets mutated. All things considered a single mom wouldn't fare much better then just Splinter. But a Splinter that falls in love after mutation could work well too. An unhealthy/toxic dynamic wouldn't help in the slightest.
April often "sort of" fills the mom role, mom role adjacent like older sister or loving Aunt, and is usually the best at nurturing Donnie more then anyone else. Casey is often helpful giving Raph a mirror and helping him regulate his temper, but he's not much a parental figure and usually an honorary turtle sibling. Plus the lesson is usually Raph teaching an adult to control themselves which isn't fair to Raph who is always a child. They all need one-on-one time with a parental figure that isn't meant to further their ninjutsu.
2003 Splinter is exempt, he's not perfect but the literal "has always been a rat, never human" Dad is the only one that regularly just hangs out with his kids and watches them play games or just watches movies/tv with them for fun. And if his kiddos are in danger he's absolutely right there trying to protect them.

I can’t believe I started this AU five years ago as a silly joke and now I’m absolutely feral over it.
Because!
Because for Felix it’s like, what if you’ve never been able to trust a single emotion you feel because you can’t be sure if it’s your own or if it’s someone else’s that you’ve mistakenly collected into your subconscious? What if you’ve never been able to trust a single emotion someone’s felt about you because you can’t be sure if it’s what they actually feel or if it’s your own that you’ve mistakenly projected onto them? So you resolve not to feel at all, to train your mind and body until you’re more a weapon than a person, and set yourself on an arrow-straight trajectory, always moving forward. But how do you stay the course when the only person who has made you want to feel is always there, footstep for footstep, urging you along? What truly scares you more, that they don’t mean the things they say, that the devotion they claim to feel is just a resonance of the feelings they inspire in you? Or that they do? You are a weapon, now. You are only capable of inflicting pain. But for a weapon, you do so fear the fresh wound’s sting.
Because for Sylvain it’s like, sometimes you become the thing you fear the most simply by trying to run away. You were born to prove someone else’s point, to provide validity to a interplanetary thesis. Raised by one parent to triumph in a war that ended before you were even born, by the other to carry the banner of a legacy. Little thought was given to your wishes. You sit squarely between two worlds, a human tether, but what—or who—is it that tethers you? You’ve loved him for so long, now. It doesn’t feel the same, loving anyone else, no matter how many times you’ve tried. So what will you do when he leaves, when he abandons you to the emptiness you’ve been trying to drown in the depths of your feelings for him? When it is only you, left in the dark. Without the legacy, without the future that was chosen for you. Who do you become, then?
Because.
