Delaney in Distress
Tumblr media
Briony listened longer than she would have liked for the telltale sounds of rushing blood to trail off. She could almost hear the cuff protesting against itself, straining against her patient's fit bicep, as she squeezed the bulb that last bit. She had been glad she was available to see patients this afternoon, because she usually enjoyed the focus. Always best to try it manually, she thought, even when you had the machines do it several times already.
In fact, Briony recalled - as she listened for the Korotkoff sounds to cease - they had had to do it twice prior, just to be sure. The situation was almost as stubborn as the patient... ---
After triage, the patient had come in with a diastolic over 150 on the chart, which they assumed had to be a mistake. Hell, sometimes the roll-around monitors in the triage rooms are just too worn out. Briony's new nurse stepped in then, which Briony liked. Nurse Teri was young, unassuming, barely making a sound. "I've got her, Dr. Leclerc." And Teri was right in it. But she was known to be efficient, because SMC always trained them well. She put the patient on the room monitor, rewrapped the cuff like a dark blue masterpiece, eyes flicking to the screen, movements fluid. Then Briony saw the patient tensing up as the machine beeped at the pressure crescendo.
Then, unexpectedly, “씨발 !” That got an eyebrow raised. Definitely Korean, Briony thought, although the patient had spoken only English since arriving. Briony hadn't picked any up, yet, but she knew several of the nurses were fluent. Teri didn’t react visually. Just said, softly, “언니, 괜찮아요.” Unnie...so, Teri was one of those nurses, Briony thought, filing it away. The room had shifted. The patient exhaled, eyes blinking once, flickering over Teri. The patient's pulse was still racing, but her hands relaxed. She was very pretty, in a hard-edged way. Briony watched the entire exchange, silent.
---
Sounds gone, Briony noted the reading on the gauge, then deftly manipulated the valve to vent the cuff, as slowly as she dared.
Hisssss...was all she heard. Until! Luff-swoosh...she looked at the gauge again...bruup-pufff, bruup-pufff...and that was that. Briony lifted her eyelids, intending to look at her patient dramatically, through her eyelashes. "One-forty-five over ninety-seven," she said. She had wanted to be stern, judgemental, but it came out half-assed, almost with sadness and concern. The patient didn't change her expression a whit - or, at least, not that Briony could tell. She just sat there, looking back at the doctor. Or, perhaps, through her. Her patient's arms were both red where the cuffs had squeezed and squished her, coloring in the tats that she wore like warpaint. This was Briony's toughest patient in a while. They had taken her BP three times, now, before and after resting. Always hypertensive, and now it was for sure. Always best to try it manually, Briony thought again, cynically. The EHR chart was shaping up to be a hell of a story. ---- SMC Internal Record Type: Patient Intake Summary Patient: Da-Eun Seo DOB: Withheld Encounter Type: New Patient Intake Department: SMC-GM (General Medicine) Exam Room: C-2 Physician: Dr. B. LeClerc
Subjective: Patient presents for routine physical — self-referred following a “weird night” involving acute palpitations, described as “fluttery and pissed off.” Reports no previous cardiac history, though admits to infrequent healthcare engagement ("I don’t really do doctors").
Lifestyle history significant for irregular sleep, stimulant use (social), tobacco use (occasional but “trying to cut back”), and recent elevated stress levels. Patient is notably defensive when queried about substance intake, though admits to “not always treating [her] body like a temple.” Insisted on no DOB in record, states age "about 25". Name in public database is not her preferred name.
Objective: BP: 152/101 triage; 142/95 after 5-minute resting protocol (quiet resting protocol, no ambient stimuli); 145/97 manually. Prominent hypertensive. HR: 108 bpm, slightly irregular. Temp: 98.3°F SpO₂: 99% RA
Physical exam:
Unremarkable, though auscultation suggests possible irregular rhythm over apex complicated by irregular breath sounds. Mild tremor noted in upper extremities, consistent with anxiety or residual stimulant effect.
Patient appears visibly tense. Body posture withdrawn but alert. Eyes sharp, but guarded. ---- "Ms. Seo," Briony began, leaving the cuff in place. "...it's Delaney." Her voice was like polished leather. She doesn't speak much, Briony thought, but when she does she tries to mean it. Briony paused. "I'm sorry, Ms…" she involuntarily softened, "…Delaney." She looked at the chart she was building on her digital pad. "You've got pretty stubborn hypertension, and that's something we need to address. Immediately." Delaney didn't seem to respond except for lifting her head and looking off into the corner. Looking above Teri's head this time, avoiding her? Briony thought, looking over her shoulder at the young nurse, who barely shifted out of place. Delaney hadn't expected to find a sympathetic ear here, I bet. "I'm hearing some heart rhythms I want to look more closely at as well. Delaney..." Briony said with some firmness. The woman looked back at her, set her jaw. She looks so tough. This part would be, too. "...Delaney," Briony continued, "you've got a fast heart rhythm, and that might be what we call tachycardia. It might not be, too - we need to look further. You may have also have a type of arrhythmia - an unusual heart rhythm - called atrio-ventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia." Briony waited a beat after the mouthful. She knew that patients often don't hear it right away. But Delaney brought her eyes back to center, looked at Briony's chest - not my face, Briony noticed. "AVNRT can be treated, but I don't really know if that's what we've got. It's common in young..." Briony thought, she's 25, for shit's sake, she's a baby "...women. But there are other potential causes, some quite serious." Delaney looked up, suddenly, finally. "...how serious?" It was almost as if Briony could hear the woman's rapid heart rhythm in her speech. Briony blinked once at the change in Delaney’s tone — quieter, but something real inside it. How can she be so guarded, and still slip like that? Her patient's shoulders sagged, just so imperceptibly. Her eyes were stunning that Briony almost gasped. Looking at the young woman seated in front of her, exposed, in her bra, with goosebumps rising on her flushed skin and the flaccid bp cuff still wrapped around her arm...she suddenly came off as vulnerable as she looked. Briony found herself relaxing, in a way. "We're going to take a closer look. I'm going to order some diagnostics, but I want to get an ECG, immediately. Nurse...Teri will help you dress and get you up to Cardiology." Maybe keeping them together will be useful. Briony motioned to the quiet nurse behind her, who scurried off to gather Delaney's blouse and get the transfer orders sent. "...and I'll meet you up there." Briony said. Off to business. Briony ripped the cuff off Delaney's bruised arm, the sound of the velcro louder than it should have been in the room. The flourish was purposeful, both to vent her frustrations and to further disarm her patient. Delaney rubbed her sweaty arm, and set her jaw again, but perhaps just imperceptibly not so stiffly this time. Maybe I've gotten through to her? Briony wondered. Probably not, but there was more work to do now. ---
Assessment & Plan: – Rule out underlying arrhythmia – Schedule 12-lead ECG with continuous waveform observation – Recommend baseline metabolic panel and CBC – Evaluate Risk Monitoring options (PAMP prequal OK) – Patient flagged for Behavioral Monitoring if persistent tension persists
Additional Notes: Patient may benefit from Korean-language support. Nurse Teri Shin initiated brief exchange in native language during retake. Patient responded with visible calming. Consider linguistically attuned staff for future encounters.
ECG ordered. Long-Term Cardiac alerted to possible admit.

DC HOCKEY AU???
I need someone to write a batfam hockey au ASAP. I'm talking run at the cup type levels of franchise. I'm talking Bruce "The Batman" Wayne as long time captain of the Gotham Knights, just a bit past his prime, enough to have doubters. I'm talking Dick used to be his right winger till he left to go join a lower seed team (Blüdhaven Vigilantes??) to try and build it from the ground up around him as the C. I'm talking Duke Thomas goalie with fully painted gear. I'm talking Cass Cain underrated centre who's always where you least expect her and DEADLY in high pressure situations. I'm talking Babs as coach after she got in a bad hockey accident that took her leg mobility. I'm talking Tim Drake as rookie pick of the year after being a star in college hockey, gets picked up by the Knights (who've fallen post-Jason injury--more on that later). I'm talking get a central city team built around speed, a star city team built around snipers (but with crap defense lol), I'm talking metropolis team that's the Knights's biggest rivals (they have depth AND they're full of top defense).
MOST OF ALL... THE JASON TODD ARC POTENTIAL.
Jason joins up his hometown team right after Dick "Robin" Grayson leaves for the crap Vigilantes, and he can't wait to prove his worth. 25 goals in his first season, he quickly moves up the lines, great chemistry with Bruce until (dun dun dun) he gets hit big time and goes down with a major knee injury. He clearly needs time to recover but gasp GM (pre-Babs) is this mysterious evil man colloquially known as the joker... The Joker lets Jason go unprotected and he falls into free agency while injured (idrk the logistics of this but yk). Bruce (already considered a bit on the old side) starts hitting extra hard, and the Knights fall off, possibly allowing doe the Vigilantes to get pretty far into playoffs. Jason goes through horrible rigorous PT before he's finally able to make a comeback years later with the Assassins (led by Thalia al Ghul of course). But instead of the centre he was clearly gearing up to be he's... A D-man???? Not just any D-man, he can score on you and he's VICIOUS. Penalty after penalty, the league doesn't know what to do with him...
That's as far as my late nights thoughts are taking me rn

I know 4 nations is still a couple of months away but if you specifically were the gm choosing the roster right now, what would your team Canada look like? (I am also curious about the other teams but don’t want to overwhelm you) I always love hearing your hockey thoughts!
ooh sarahhhh LOVE this q... also lowkey thank u for only asking about Canada b/c i have not thought about the other rosters at all. to be honest
ok lets get into it
(13 F, 7 D, 3 G)
Forwards:
Already named to the roster: Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand, Connor McDavid, Brayden Point
I'm not entirely sure if I had complete control I would pick Marchand, who is both a) pretty far past his prime (even if he is one of those guys who doesn't really age like other players do) and b), not entirely That guy, but I digress. Eight more forwards to name.
Mitch Marner: Easily the best Canadian player not on this list. Since there's no salary cap for the roster and you can go wild by just picking Everyone Good, the most important note of roster construction in my mind is special teams; on any given team you should have ~2 units each of PP and PK, so eight-ish PP forwards and four-ish PK forwards. Some guys don't really do either, so it's always an extra asset to find a guy who is good at both. Mitch Marner is good at both. (And also good at basically everything else.)
Sam Reinhart: I don't like saying it, but I will
Mark Schiefele: I also don't like saying it
Dylan Strome: Here's where it gets interesting. No, I promise this is not a purely narrative choice, although I understand why one might think that. I shrimply love me a smart playmaking centre (yes his points totals are probably inflated by the Caps' really high oish% for him, but he is firmly Very Good and, even as a 4C, should be firmly considered for the 4N.)
Travis Konecny: Legitimately one of the best penalty killers in the league, and also just an all-around threat. Also also a lot of the guys who tend to be picked for 4N are natural centres (e.g. Sidney, NateMac, CMD, Pointer, Reinhart, Schiefele, and Strome are all centres) so it's nice to not have to worry in his case about if he's going to have to move to wing or not.
Connor Bedard: Oh my god I want to see what this kid can do with offensive deployment on wing and actual good teammates
John Tavares: Departing from my usual "don't pick players who are floating into their mid-thirties if you can possibly avoid it" to say that Guys. Johnnifer is still Good. Like, still really good. Chugging along at a point a game and very, very good in the faceoff dot (58%) type of good.
Seth Jarvis: Also firmly underrated IMHO; just because he is a little guy and a bit of a dork doesn't mean we shouldn't, like, remember that He's Good. Because he is.
Reserves: Steven Stamkos (always a power-play threat), Mat Barzal (competent teammates question part 2), Claude Giroux (we all know what his deal is)
Defencemen:
Already named to the roster: Cale Makar
Oh, boy, are we not great at this whole "developing defencemen" thing. Let's see who we can put together.
Josh Morrissey: Basically Morgan Rielly but a little better, I think? Solid shooter, Of-D, etc etc.
Thomas Chabot: Severely undernoticed considering that the Sens have been shit and ass the entire time he's played there. Not his fault, though. Also there's no other Francophones on this list I feel so we should really fix that. What IS Quebec Doing?
Brandt Clarke: Okay, we can have a little "developing defencemen." As a treat.
Evan Bouchard: Why are you booing me? I'm right.
Chris Tanev: Chris Tanev
Brandon Montour: There are probably one or two better options but I like him more TO BE HONEST. Picking the forwards is like a careful examination of PK ability and faceoff percentages and primary points per minute. Picking defencemen has been entirely vibes. I'm very, very sure the L and R balance is just Not There.
Reserves: Maveric Lamoureux (queb AND developing. dual threat), Devon Toews (considering literally everyone will beg for the makar-toews pairing), Shea Theodore (I guess)
Goaltenders:
Lol and Lmao, even
Logan Thompson: The man is the Capitals' starter, helped win Vegas a Cup, and is also lowkey hot sexy and hot and sexy. Starter!
Joey Daccord: Swiss, Canadian, and American, so I'm sure we could convince him to come to the dark side. (Especially since the USA has holy-fuck level goalie depth. Jake Oettinger is a third-stringer.)
Marc-Andre Fleury: Look, this forward core is good enough that it can win us a game 7-6 if we really need it to. I just think he's fun.

HGUC 1/144 E.F.S.F. Mass-Produced Mobile Suit RGM-79N "GM Custom"
Another entry to the GM collection!! Joining the 2001 GM, 2003 GM Cold Districts Type, 2012 GM Sniper II, and 2023 GM Missile Pod, 2011's GM custom is part of one of Bandai's best runs, with pleasing balance between sticker detail, molded detail, colour separation, cost, and option parts. Of note is the inclusion of 7 whole pre-posed hand options, with 2 closed fists, 2 open hands, a special hinged open left hand to get around the poor shoulder articulation, and special right-handed weapon holding options that accomodate the large square forearms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kit overall is a welcome upgrade from the 2003 GM Cold Districts Type, with shoulders on pegs that rotate forward, and better ball-jointed hips. The shoulder and leg connections are nicely secured and have a lot of detail, and the single colour style of the kit allows parts to be cemented together to hide the panel gaps you often get with older kits.
This kit comes with the older light trans-pink beam saber effects (rather than the deep pink you'll see on newer kits) and an extra beam saber hilt, as well as a really nicely detailed bullpupped "GM rifle" and a post-0079 style shield.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the red vents and booster nozzles, as well as the grey inside the shield, need to be painted on, which was a little annoying in terms of cleaning up. Like other recent kits I've done, I added some gold as well.
Tumblr media
This kit came with a nice set of detail stickers with complete freedom on how to apply them. There's plenty of EFSF lettering, lots of numbers, and a badge for the spaceship "Albion". I chose to number this "120", after the kit number, as the suit didn't appear to have any canon number. Combined with spare stickers from my other HGUC kits it looks really nicely detailed. Unfortunately there's no foil stickers with this kit, so I used my green metallic Gundam Marker for the sensors.
Just like my GM Cold Districts Type I also used some black sponged paint, as well as Tamiya weathering sets C and D for heat discoloration, oil stains, and paint damage. I tried to limit the degree of weathering here to save time, and I think it also helps let the base kit shine through.
Tumblr media
I also picked up a set of custom resin weapons as a promotion from the hobby store I use. I painted the shotgun for display with this kit, and it looks really fitting. I like how the company name also looks like an in-universe logo.
Tumblr media
I had a lot of fun with this kit, and I definitely think that's it's a more fun building experience than the other older GMs I've built.

Unnatural Selection-Muse; Harmonic Analysis
This is essentially just going to be a music theory word vomit BUT hopefully it makes sense. I'm gonna put it under the cut bc it's probably gonna be quite long.
I'm so sorry guys, this is pretty terminology heavy. I hope it all makes sense, but if anything doesn't, please let me know and I'll do my best to explain!
A few notes: -I use roman numerals to indicate chord positions in relation to the key. Capitals are used for major chords, lower case for minor chords and (not relevant here) lower case italics for diminished chords. -A perfect cadence is literally just V-I or V-i in any key. It's a pretty key component in classical music and Matt Bellamy uses them frequently in his writing. There are other types of cadence as well, but they're not relevant here (feel free to ask if you're curious though! I'm more than happy to explain). -A crotchet is a quarter note and a quaver is an eighth note. I'm British and that's what we call them here idk what to say. -I've made comparisons to what is generally done in Western Classical Tradition because I know that Matt Bellamy takes a fair amount of inspiration from classical music, and the harmony he uses is often what would be considered 'functional' in the WCT.
Intro:
-Begins with strongly implied E minor key. -Approximately 125-130bpm -Em |Am |D7 |G |C A/C# |D B/D# |Em C D |G | This is a really nice little chord sequence. It starts with a diatonic circle of fifths until we get to the C major chord in bar 5, and then we start moving up a chromatic bassline. The chromaticism is highlighted by putting the non-diatonic notes in the bass (in this case, the A# of the A major chord and the D# of the B major chord). This builds to an E minor chord, which is immediately followed by a IV-V-I perfect cadence in G major, which solidifies the key. G major is the relative major of E minor, where we started. This is a typically classical place to modulate to.
Verse:
-Begins in Gm. No prepared modulation, just moves straight from G major to G minor. Perhaps surprisingly, this is a reasonably common occurrence in classical music; for the intro to be in the tonic major/minor of the main key. An example of this can be seen in Haydn's symphony 104, where the intro is in Dm and the main symphony/first movement is in D major. -Gm |D7 :| x4 The verse chords are the tonic (first) and dominant (fifth) chords repeated 4 times. This creates a cycle of perfect cadences, as well as a perfect cadence going into the pre-chorus. However, the movement in the bassline guides the listener to only really hear the finality of the cadence every 4 bars rather than every 2 bars. -Tempo change! We've moved from 125-130bpm in the intro to around 160bpm. This is the tempo for the rest of the song aside from the bridge.
Pre-Chorus:
-Aforementioned perfect cadence from the end of the verse into the start of the pre-chorus. -Gm |Bb |Cm |F |Bb |Gm |Dsus4 |D7 |Gm |D7 | Here, the chord sequence kind of flirts with the relative major key of Gm, which is Bb major. This can be seen from bars 3-5, where we have what could be read as a ii-V-I perfect cadence in Bb major. However, we are immediately dragged back into Gm, with a build up to the chorus, and some nice tension created with the Dsus4 chord. We finish on a D7, which can then act as a perfect cadence into the chorus.
Chorus:
-Perfect cadence from end of pre-chorus into the chorus places us in G minor. -Gm |Cm |F7 |Bb |Eb C/E |F D/F# |Gm Eb F |Bb | Lots going on here! If it looks similar that's because it is! It has the exact same harmonic function as the intro, just in a different key. At the start of the chorus we are solidly in Gm, with the same diatonic circle of fifths, followed by the same chromatic rising bass and then the same IV-V-I perfect cadence in the relative major, Bb. This means by the end of the chorus we are in Bb, which is a pretty classical standard classical place to modulate. However we do move pretty much immediately to Gm as we move into the next verse/bridge. -A thing I think is interesting to note is that the diatonic circle of fifths takes the 'dark' direction a circle of fifths can take (essentially towards flat keys/chords). I think this really fits the vibe of the song and also provides a nice contrast against the rising chromatic bass in the following bars.
Bridge:
-Metric modulation! We have changed from 4/4 to 6/8 or 12/8 (depending on how you want to divide it). We have also changed tempo, to approximately 37 DOTTED crotchet beats per minute. We use a dotted crotchet here because we're in compound time rather than simple time (4/4 is simple time, which is why we used undotted crotchet bpm there). Creates a very different vibe to both the intro and the rest of the song. This is not something that is particularly common in Muse songs (or most songs tbh). -Gm Dm |Eb Cm |Bb Bbm |D D7 :| x6 Here we are pretty solidly in Gm throughout. There are D/D7 chords at the end of the sequence which repeats back to create perfect cadences with the Gm at the start of the sequence. The Bb to Bbm creates some nice contrast to what is otherwise a very diatonically Gm (harmonic scale) chord sequence, as the Db in a Bbm chord is not diatonic to the key of Gm. I do think having the III become minor is a very interesting decision and not one I've seen before.

How difficult is it to replace a broken headlight bulb in a modern car?
Replacing a broken headlight bulb in a modern car ranges from 5 minutes to 2+ hours of work, with difficulty heavily dependent on your vehicle’s make, model, and engineering choices. Here’s what you need to know:
🔧 Key Factors Affecting Difficulty Accessibility
Easy: Some cars (e.g., Toyota Camry, older Hondas) allow bulb replacement by opening the hood and reaching behind the headlight housing.
Hard: Many modern vehicles (e.g., Ford Escape, Subaru Outback, German brands) require wheel removal, bumper disassembly, or moving the battery/airbox just to reach the bulb. Bulb Type
Halogen: Usually plug-and-play (easiest).
HID/LED: May require coding/adaptation (e.g., VW, BMW) or entire assembly replacement. Headlight Housing Design
Sealed or compact engine bays leave little room for hands/tools (e.g., Mazda CX-5, Dodge Charger).
🛠️ Step-by-Step Difficulty Breakdown Task Difficulty Level Time Required Access the Bulb ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Varies wildly) 5 min – 1.5 hours Disconnect Electrical Plug ⭐ (Usually simple) 1–2 minutes Remove Bulb Retainer Clip ⭐⭐⭐ (Tiny/fragile parts in tight spaces) 2–10 minutes Install New Bulb ⭐⭐ (Avoid touching glass w/ bare hands!) 2–5 minutes Reassembly/Recalibration ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (If bumper/wheels removed) 15–30+ minutes
🚗 Vehicle-Specific Examples Toyota Corolla (2020+)
Difficulty: Easy Steps: Open hood → twist bulb cover → swap bulb (no tools). Honda CR-V (2017–2023)
Difficulty: Moderate Steps: Remove wheel liner clips → reach behind housing. Ford F-150 (2015+)
Difficulty: Hard Steps: Remove grille/bumper bolts → detach headlight assembly. Audi Q5 / Mercedes C-Class
Difficulty: Expert Steps: Remove front bumper, wheels, or battery. May require VAG-COM coding.
💡 Critical Tips for Success Check Your Manual: Always start here! Some cars forbid bulb replacement without dealer tools.
Don’t Touch Bulb Glass: Oils from skin cause halogen bulbs to overheat and fail prematurely. Use gloves or a cloth.
Buy the Right Bulb: Confirm bulb type (e.g., H11, 9005, D3S) via your manual or sites like Sylvania’s bulb guide.
Realign Headlights: After replacement, park 25 ft from a wall and verify beam height matches the other side.
⚠️ When to Call a Mechanic If your car requires bumper removal or reprogramming.
If you lack tools (e.g., Torx/security bits) or patience for cramped spaces.
Cost: Dealers charge 100–400; independent shops 50–150.
🛑 Potential Pitfalls Breaking Retainer Clips: Common in GM/Subaru vehicles (20–50 part).
Fragile Wiring: Yanking plugs can damage wires ($200+ repair).
Moisture Trapped in Housing: Improper sealing causes fogging/corrosion.
Final Verdict: If you drive an economy car or truck, DIY is often manageable (30 mins max). For European luxury models, expect frustration—unless you enjoy bumper removal puzzles! Always YouTube your specific car + "headlight bulb replacement" before starting. 🔧

You invite invasive and intrusive asks?
Kudzu vines be upon you! And certain types of black berry bushes, and English ivy oh huh that's meaningful twice over for you, and mmmmm a spare mint plant too. That should be good to cover the invasive part.
Now for intrusive questions: Who's your third tallest OC? Have you ever broken a bone? What's the last word you spoke aloud? (as of reading this for the first time. If memory serves you) and would you please offer a hug to someone you adore?
Also less a question more an observation: your photography skills are strong. The bird photo you shared is in great focus and framing, I'm still thinking about it b/c birds are quick targets. So props once again.
Eeee! Nice questions! Thank yooooou ~<3
Okay one at a time!
Third Tallest OC: Commander Enkara, a Demon The Descent playable character who was a Sword/Destroyer who worked with an angel still in the God Machine called Machineh. The pair were close friends and broke off when on October 27th 1962 he, as his human Cover identity of Vasily Arkhipov, refused to obey his orders and prevented a conflict between the Russian B-59 submarine he was onboard and the USS Randolph
Enkara was a paranoid man who stuck close to the US military operations, convinced Machineh would attempt another scheme-- his Cover during the campaign was a janitor and he and the other PCs were recruited by a rebellious group of demons in a mid-tier band to engage with the ongoing plot of the campaign--
He was a fun character in concept but he messed up table dynamics too much. Having a paranoid character who refused to trust anyone was the exact opposite of our normal vibe of 'go where the plot takes us' characters who either trusted too easily or were curious enough to engage with any plot threads offered.
Lesson learned with him. A plot resistant character is fine in a party that has a driving force but if you've made yourself to be the player at the table who trusts the GM then you do not take away that necessary role at the table.
Have you ever broken a bone?: That we are aware of, no. We are still a member of /r/neverbrokeabone where the rules specifically say teeth do not count.
What's the last word you spoke aloud? (as of reading this for the first time. If memory serves you): "I'm fine" said to our boyfriend when we were grabbing a COVID test to escape post-vacation quarantine.
and would you please offer a hug to someone you adore?: Will you hug us when we finally get to see you at an event? We would like that very much? Otherwise will just hug said boyfriend when we escape quarantine.
and bhrgvbruigfvb THANK YOU

(someone sent me an ask abt music theory. idk where it went)
(western) music theory explained sorta ok
theres 12 notes (except sometimes theres more or less)
there’s 7 normal ones called C, D, E, F, G, A, and B (unless you’re german) and 5 less normal ones which are called either C#, D#, F#, G#, and A#, or D♭, E♭, G♭, A♭, and B♭. the # (sharp) means it’s a half step* above the letter it has and the ♭ (flat) means it’s a half step below
half steps mean go up a note. whole steps mean go up two notes
a Scale is a group of notes. theres a lot of them but the ones you’ll see 99.9% of the time follow a pattern that goes
1 W 2 W 3 H 4 W 5 W 6 W 7 H 8 (8 is secretly 1 again)
where a W is a whole step up and a H is a half step. all the common scales use this pattern. there’s 7 groups of scales that depend on which step they start on, but ~85% of the time you only need the Major (Ionian) ones, which start on 1, or the Minor (Aeolian) ones, which start on 6 and pretend it's a 1
those groups are called the Major and Minor scales because their I chords are-
[tape rewinding noise]
you don’t know about chords yet. chords are-
[tape rewinding noise again]
before we talk about chords we gotta talk about intervals. an Interval is the distance between two notes, and it’s written with a number (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7)
some of them are actually two. 2, 3, 6, and 7 are either major (M) or minor (m). the difference between a major interval and a minor interval is a half step and the minor one is smaller
also intervals that add up to 9 are the same thing (2 = 7, 3 = 6, 4 = 5) as long as one is major and the other is minor because opposites attract. i.e., M2 = m7
4ths and 5ths aren’t major or minor - they’re Perfect. P4 = P5
people who are good at math might notice one’s missing. good catch. that would be the Tritone, or TT (or #5 or flat-4). it’s between the P4 and the P5. it has some cool uses but generally it sounds Weird on its own
some intervals sound nice! others sound less nice. the nicer an interval sounds, the more consonant it is, and the harsher it sounds the more dissonant it is. generally, P5, 3, and 6 are considered consonant, 2, 7 and TT are considered dissonant and P4 just kinda… isn’t either? i don’t get it either
you’re doing great
ok chords time. a chord is a group of notes which is (usually) made (mostly) out of stacked 3s. the most basic chords are Triads, which come in four kinds:
Major (M): M3, then m3
Minor (m): m3, then M3
Augmented (+): M3, then M3
Diminished (*): m3, then m3
(if you're thinking, "hey we're using the same words for a lot of different concepts," don't worry. it gets worse. lmao)
generally, major chords sound upbeat, minor chords sound a bit darker, and the other two are “specialty” chords you won’t see on their own
chords (and scales) are labeled with their Tonic (bottom note, also called the root of the chord) name and then the symbol shown above for that chord (or scale) type (major chords (and scales) generally don’t get a symbol) for example, an E major chord (E, G#, B) is written as E. a G minor chord (G, B flat, D) is written as Gm.
because every scale has 7 notes, it also has 7 chords. they’re named after the notes in the scale relative to their numerical order 1-7, and whether they’re major or minor depends on the notes in the scale. theres also some other chords that will make this post twenty times as long so im omitting them
ok time for this
Tumblr media
this is the Circle of Fifths. you’re gonna hear about it ninety thousand times forever. im not gonna explain it because this image does a good job doing that but you’re gonna need this for chord progressions and also for key changes so you should really just memorize it
human ears really like chordal movement by 5ths, specifically counterclockwise. a movement by a 5th is called a Cadence. if you’re going counterclockwise it’s an Authentic Cadence (V - I) and if you’re going clockwise it’s a Plagal Cadence (IV - I). theres also some other ones you will never need to know about
most music works in Phrases. these phrases generally start with a I chord, do some stuff in the middle, and then do an authentic cadence (V -> I, remember?) at the end. when they do this, that I (1) chord at the end is called the tonic (see above) and the V (5) chord is called the Dominant. a lot of the time, the V is preceded by a IV (4), which is called the Predominant because it pre(cedes) the dominant
hey. hey you. if you're writing things with chords the lowest note should (for now) always be the root of the chord. sometimes it doesn't have to be but really it does have to be.
thats really enough music theory to start writing music tbh

Second part about the academy requirements and more specifically about Cyril:
Cyril being unable to move up in the church because he is Almyran never gets reframed as some other problem, like Rhea being afraid of forcefully converting him. Shamir is a Knight of Seiros and she is never asked to convert to the faith. But Cyril never even gets the offer to train as one even though he is Shamir's apprentice. Similarly, Hanneman is not religious and neither is Jeritza, and on top of that, Jeritza has the social skills of a potato, yet training to be some type of teacher is another position that gets never offered to Cyril. The age thing: Rhea and Seteth never say that Cyril is too young to work and should stop, and the larger context is that Dorothea entered the opera at 10 and was a star at 13, and Ashe helped at his parents' restaurant when he was younger than 10. Meanwhile Cyril came to GM at 13 and is 15 during the academy phase. 3H isn't a world where people have modern ideas about children and teenagers working. Notably, Seteth asks what he can do for Cyril in their C-support and when Cyril asks to stay at GM forever, Seteth makes no offer to train for a church job (I already established that they don't all require converting) and just says he will keep it in mind. Because he cannot offer him any official position due to Cyril's nationality. Seteth's solo ending establishes that he works to do away at the inner prejudices of the church and Cyril also only becomes a student post-game, once the draconian entrance requirements of the academy are (presumably) lifted. I suspect that Seteth is the one who made the effort to get him enrolled once Rhea was no longer archbishop. And yes, Seteth does also try to encourage Cyril to consider another future than serving Rhea in their support chain, but nothing says that he couldn't also have offered Cyril something concrete like "if you are really determined to stay, here's what job openings we have. Think about it". Not pushing Cyril or forcing him, just giving him some possibilities. Besides, while Seteth means well, Cyril leaving pre-war wouldn't be great for him either: people in Fodlan are racist against Almyrans, Cyril has no family or friends outside the church (before he meets the students of 1180) and the question is if he could find work that doesn't expose him to exploitation and abuse. The church is not perfect but offering Cyril to train for a church job that does not require converting is the most stable and safe option for him but this only happens once Rhea is no longer archbishop. Meaning that even if she cares for him (and I think she does) she wasn't willing to fight anti-Almyran racism within the church for Cyril's sake when she was in power. Meanwhile Dimitri fights anti-Duscurian racism for Dedue both when he is in a politically strong position (the Savior King) or a weak one (Rufus' bannermen being his enemies in AG). I don't even think that Rhea hates Alymrans herself, but once she saves Cyril, Seteth is the one who is concerned for the boy's future prospects and the one who eventually makes the changes Cyril needs possible.
