Way too much discussion about Stede ignores that the non-pirate men around in the show are also, per the time period, wearing lace and cravats and wigs etc. Like, Stede is a clotheshorse, he's definitely more into fashion than average, but he's not breaking gender norms or whatever when the gender includes--

etc. even for uniforms. Stede is into men's fashion. Him wearing some pirate shirts can't be a blow against non-conformity when everything he was wearing beforehand was still within the average range of male clothing for his society to begin with. I like Stede getting to wear fancy things with lace because he likes it, but it's not sticking it to The Man when The Man of the time period was also wearing fancy things.
