The First Appearance of Kryptonite!
Also the first time he learned his origin story (in the comics)
To my recollection, Kryptonite was first invented in the radio show as an excuse for Bud Hollyer to take a break from voicing Superman, but here's the introduction within the comics- in the actual funniest way possible. Which was then followed by an actually touching story of Clark witnessing the destruction of Krypton himself and discovering his origin.

Happy Fanart Friday, guys! Here’s my colorful and beautiful illustration featuring Miss Fury aka The Black Fury, originally created by June Tarpé Mills! 🔥🐈‍⬛ Yes, this character was created by a woman as Miss Mills (R.I.P.) was one of the female comic book pioneers.
Since Women’s History Month is ending soon, but better late than never as I wanted to share my fun illustration featuring one of the OG fictional badass women debuted in comics. Miss Fury first appeared in “The Black Fury” issue No. 1 on April 6, 1941 (few months before Wonder Woman made her rocking debut)!

The first usage of Kal-EL in the comics! Also, appears to be the first time he learned it himself.

Superman #113 “Superman of the Past!” (1957)
It was used in the George Reeves show in 1952- can't recall if it was earlier elsewhere, but in that same year, he gave his name as Jor-El the 2nd.

Tiger Girl was an Indian princess version of Sheena who appeared continuously for nearly a decade in Fight Comics, published by the heroine-friendly Fiction House, between 1944 and 1954, the year of the publishing house’s demise. Apart from the setting of a never-never “lost kingdom” in a non-specific part of Africa, there was little to distinguish Tiger Girl from her East African inspiration, other than the lethal-looking bullwhip she wielded in order to subdue her enemies and her two “pet” tigers , the aptly named Scimitar and Spear, whom she deployed to protect her “domain” from evil intruders and exploiters.
Tiger Girl’s back story was interesting in that she was the daughter of an Indian aristocrat named Rajah Vishnu and an unnamed Irish mother. This actually made her the only mixed race jungle woman of the Golden Age but inevitably, and in true Sheena homage style, she was inexplicably depicted with flowing golden tresses (although interestingly, in her earlier adventures she is shown as a redhead). Her father brought her to Africa, somehow founded a realm there, which his daughter took to patrolling in adulthood in true jungle girl fashion, complete with tiger skin bikini. Tiger Girl, like Sheena, tended to the more “savage’ aspect of the jungle heroine’s nature, frequently not taking her loathsome enemies alive to face justice, but allowing the brutal laws of the jungle to run their course. Derivative Tiger Girl may have been, but she was a popular storyline, indicated by the title’s longevity and by the fact she was Fight Comic’s cover character for much of her run.
In the page featured, a crazed scientist named Remington, attempting to take over Tiger Girl’s kingdom with an army of intelligent apes, is defeated by a combination of the jungle girl’s whip, her two tigers and a friendly local tribe. We are assured the vanquished Remington “shall pay!” but what that means is left to our imagination.
Tiger Girl was the creation of artist Robert Hayward Webb, who also worked on Sheena. The writers of her stories are unknown. The page featured is from the Tiger Girl adventure in Fight Comics #80 (May 1952).

Superman is someone I like more than Captain America. For one thing, Superman has Canadian ties. His original illustrator (Joe Shuster) lived in Toronto until he was around 10. For another, he wasn't originally a symbol of american nationalism. Superman was a hero for all. I once read some of his early comics. They're really good. He fought prison bosses, bad orphanage owners, did a moral crusade against reckless driving, there's some pretty good stuff in there. And none of it was explicitly american. It reads as though it could legitimately be based around NYC, but also around Toronto or any other big city. It's malleable. And I like that. We need to get back to this Superman. For that matter, let's do a Golden age revival.
The Golden Age Justice Society is better than the Justice League. The only thing the Justice League does better is having Martian Manhunter. Martian Manhunter is great. But we need to give the Heroes of the 40s some attention again. Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, Doctor Fate, The Spectre, etc.

Golden Age of Comics Supervillain Mount Rushmore
So saw a few vids about Supervillain Mount Rushmore (The four best of the best ) and I wanted to do my own,Ill do 5 of these :Golden,Silver ,Bronze ,Modern and all time .Also feel free to share your own rushmore
Rules:Just doing DC and Marvel
Will limit the villains to the era they appear in
First the Golden era(1938 -1956 )
Will give 12 contenders
Joker
Catwoman
Lex Luthor
Mr Mxyzptlk
Red Skull
Penguin
Vandal Savage
Solomon Grundy
Cheetah
Two Face
Riddler
Scarecrow
My runners up
For me Cheetah ,Riddler ,and Scarecrow are out immediately .I dont know Cheetah that well,Riddler while a personal fave didnt hit his heyday till the silver age and poor Scarecrow is good but he's kind of always a brideasmaid never a bride
I love Vandal Savage buuuuuuut hes very niche, not to many people know him
By contrast people know Grundy (Hes in the Crash Test Dummys Superman Song afterall )and he is a personal fave but I cant put him as one of the best
Catwoman could easily take a spot ,she is iconic and is a fave....But her allegiences kind of shift ,she flip flops from villain to hero to anti hero a LOT
Two Face is one of Batmans greatest foes ,but I dunno,I personally dont see him on the rushmore
Penguin .....Is so close to being on the rushmore .Hes one of the most iconic villains ever.......But by a hair I chose someone else
My Golden Age Villain rushmore
Mr Mxyzptlk-This might be controvercial but this is a golden age rushmore, and I strongly felt we need a comedic villain on the Rushmore .This 5th dimensional imp I feel is a perfect example of the Golden Age ,and he is a personal fave of mine . It was really between him and Penguin....And I just think Mxy represents the Golden Age more
Tumblr media
Red Skull:Big part of the Golden Age :Nazi fighting ,and of the Nazi villains in comics he is the most iconic .He is Marvels first real iconic villain and as a supervillain he is one of few who just....Gets under my skin, being just a nasty pure evil son of a bitch
Tumblr media
Lex Luthor:My personal favorite supervillain ,the evil genius who always battles Superman .Over the many decades Luthor has evolved from being criminal genius,a mad scientist to representing corporate and political evil, but remains consistant is his envy and hatred of the man of steel ,the man who with his great intelect COULD save the world, but his petty hatred and ego make him a villain
Tumblr media
Joker:The easiest pick .Joker has kind of become the most iconic villain in comics .He is the most versetile from goofy prankster to maniacal psychopath .He has an amazing design and he plays off Batman superbly ,the grinning colorful villain to the dark grim hero
Tumblr media
So my Golden Age Villain Rushmore is Mr Mxyzptlk,Red Skull ,Lex Luthor and Joker
Who is your golden Age villain rushmore
@themousefromfantasyland @the-blue-fairie @theancientvaleofsoulmaking @countesspetofi @barbossas-wench @filmcityworld1 @ariel-seagull-wings @amalthea9 @princesssarisa @piterelizabethdevries
