To the anon lamenting the state of the Twitter fandom: please don’t forget that the way it looks over there now is in no small part to Elon’s master plan to boost “engagement” on Twitter (stop trying to make X happen! Nobody calls it that!). No matter how carefully you curate your feed Twitter is literally built to fuel fan wars and discourse right now. What that asshat thinks is valuable is the arguing on Twitter, so that is what is pushed to the top. I do feel bad for any new fans coming in however. It’s got to feel like the equivalent of that Community meme where Troy comes back with the pizzas to everything on fire, etc.

"I think a lot of people need to realize that characters like the dhampir trio or Amelia are background characters and it’s kind of ridiculous to be frustrated over them not getting much attention in the story compared to the main 4. They are never going to have much purpose besides serving as a way to flesh out the main characters and that’s fine because that’s what background characters are and every story has them and it doesn’t mean mochijun fails as a writer or isn’t appreciating them it just means they are background characters! and if anything mochijun does more than needed for her background characters by always including them in extra content. I’m just so sick of hearing people complain about why mochijun is not paying attention to the background characters or asking for more focus on them when she’s barely halfway through in developing her main characters and their relationships with each other"

The good points of: Sage
Tumblr media
Other parts here
Today, I will write about the second main protagonist: Sage.
Sage is... a complexe character to analyse. Not because she has a very deep psychology, but because she’s two very different characters in one. Sage is like doctor Jekyll. Good Sage is an anxious, shy, hard-working, bookworms nerd. Bad Sage is a manipulative, toxic, selfcentred villain. So in the fandom, you can find people who absolutly love Sage because they relate to her a lot and people who just hate her because she reminds them horrible friends. Since I was an anxious nerd in my teenager years AND I had a friend like bad Sage, I have trouble to decide how I feel about her.
So for this post, I will only talk about good Sage. The Sage that the creators want to write most of the time and not the Sage that they write because of a lack of global vision.
As usual, don’t hesitate to go to the creator’s tumblr: @dinoraye
(And if you don’t want to be tagged on all my post Raye, don’t hesitate to tell me in mp)
Her design
Tumblr media
Sage’s is pretty simple for this serie. In comparaison with Rosemary’s one, we could call it too simple: only one color, overly simple clothes... But I think it matches well with her personnality. If Rosemary is flamboyant, loud and energetic, Sage is the exact opposite. She’s quite, tries to not attract too much attention, is more of a follower.
So, her simple old-fashioned dress, her big witch hate, her simple boots and her braid tell you everything you need to know about her. And also about the dynamic between her and her friend.
Plus, I really like that her eyes are pink like Rosemary's hair and Rosemray’s eyes are blue like Sage’s hair. It’s a nice touch that express how much this two are close.
But that’s not it. Because Sage has a particularity: her design evolves during the show. And it’s not her clothes like it’s expect, but it’s her haircut.
Tumblr media
This design is the original design that Raye Rodriguez made for her. And I must admit that short-hair-Sage is adorable! Plus, it’s a symbol of her evolution. I’m kinda sad that the scene where she cuts her hair isn’t related to her arc (she cuts them for saving Rosemary, and even if it’s cute that she did it for her friend, she never express a lot of attachment toward her hair and saving Rosemary isn’t related to her personnal arc), but at least we understand that short-hair-Sage is more confident (she compliment Snapdragon about his nails without being anxious) and that she finds her own way to do magic (which was her arc).
Bonus point for the fact that when she cuts her hair, it’s not nice right away and Rosemary needs to style it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a nice little touch to her design and her character.
Her personnality
Like I said, Sage has two very different personnalities. But for the sake of this serie of post, we will talk about Good-Sage.
Sage begins the story as a quite, shy and anxious but who tries to do her best. She brings a nice contrast and breaks with the always enthusiastic Rosemary. With her, we have the time to learn about the universe, its rules and magic. And since she doesn’t take all the spotlight, she’s also a good character for introducing others less difficult like Thyme or Amaryllis.
Tumblr media
But she also has the potential to be a guardian. At her first class, professor Caraway explains that they must be brave if they want to be a guardian. And that’s what Sage does: she overcomes her shyness (showned a few moments before) and raises her hand to talk in public.
She also knows she’s not perfect at all and she has a lo to learn. So when she decides to use new magic, she wakes up early to train. It’s admirable.
Tumblr media
Her story and her arc
Sage is clearly the character that the creators were the most interested in. Her arc is the main one for half the show, her troubles are way more explored than the other’s and she’s linked to every story unlike Rosemary (who is linked to the rot only because she likes Parsley and Parsley is Thyme’s friend).
Sage is involved in the plot because her arc is about magic. So she has to learn it, which linked her to the school’s stories. So she has to talk about with her relatives, which linked her to the outside school’s stories. So it creates drama because she’s inscured about it, which linked her to the dramatic stories. So she argues with other characters, which linked her to character’s exploration’s stories. And since the ain threat is magic, she’s linked to it actively. Clearly, Sage is the most interesting to follow and - in my opinion - the real main character of the show.
Like I said, Sage as the anxious nerd, is very relatable. Everyone has being insecure during their teenager’s years. And seeing Sage having the same problems and solving it is comforting. She also becomes more confident, more open, more stable. We’re happy for her.
Tumblr media
Finally, Sage has a real romance with Snapdragon (sorry Raye, I don’t buy it the “Sage and Rosemary could be the end goal”). And it’s really, really cute! Their flirts and their interactions are well written and it’s pleasant to see them together. Especially when Snapdragon doesn’t really have someone to talk about his feelings since his only friend - Amaryllis - isn’t really good with emotions and all. Same with Rosemary and Sage, as much as Rosemary wants to, she’s unable to quite understand Sage’s troubles with her family since her whole background is family love. They could make a great couple.
Tumblr media
She has a full arc, problems, an evolution psychological and physical, has a cute romance and is involved with the plot.
Conclusion
Sage is clearly the character who represents what the creators wanted to do: writting story about growing up. She’s the one who is the most involved and who evolves the most. She’s also the most relatable one because her problems (fear of disappointing her family, not being enough, anxious about not knowing everything and not being able to plan proprely, troubles to adapt to new concept...) can be apply to our own life.
And since she’s the quite one, she lets her scenes breath and we learn as much about other characters as about her in them. She made a great duo with Rosemary to help the audience to feel involved.
What do you think about Sage? Do you like her? If not, why?

„In Book Four of the Argonautica, Apollonius takes the implicit contradiction between Hera’s sunny view of Thetis’ marriage in Book 24 of the Iliad and Thetis’ own bitterness about it in Book 18 and puts it on full display. Hera visits Thetis to ask her to help steer the Argo safely through the wandering rocks. She repeats her claim to have reared Thetis herself, and later goes on to mention, quite insensitively, that Thetis has not been breast-feeding the young Achilles: ‘he whom the Naiads are now tending in the abode of Chiron the Centaur, though he craves your milk…’). Apollonius endorses Hera’s Iliadic claim to have raised Thetis, but he also shows us that Hera already knew, decades before the Trojan War, that Thetis had not breast-fed Achilles, and hence authorizes us to read Hera’s awkward evasion of the subject in Iliad 24 as a deliberate suppression of her knowledge of the negative aftermath of Thetis’ wedding.
Helpfully filling in most of the information that is missing in the Iliad, Apollonius’ Hera gives us plenty of detail on the background to Thetis’ forced marriage to Peleus. She firstly says that Thetis rejected the amorous advances of Zeus out of respect for herself and that in retaliation Zeus swore an oath that she would never marry a mortal. This apparently reflects a version of the myth that was told by Hesiod and the Cypria, according to a fragment of Philodemus. Subsequently, Hera says, Zeus continued to pursue her until Themis told him the prophecy that she was destined to bear a son more powerful than his father; at that point Zeus gave up pursuing Thetis to preserve his own power. This latter version is similar to how the myth appears in Pindar (Isthm. 8.29–38) and in the Prometheus Bound (907–927). In Hera’s compounded account, Thetis’ humiliation appears to be doubly determined by Zeus’ selfishness, first by his spite and then by his instinct for self-preservation. Despite all this information, Hera goes on blithely to present the subsequent wedding to Peleus as a great boon to Thetis, just as she had done in the Iliad: But I gave to you the best of the sons of earth to be your husband, that you might find a marriage dear to your heart and bear children; and I called all of the gods together to the feast. And with my own hands I raised the bridal torch, in return for the kindly honour you paid me (Argon. 4.805–809).
As Hunter has pointed out, this reference to bearing children is one of several cruel and heartless touches in Hera’s speech. For Thetis has already abandoned Achilles and we know of the grief that he is destined to cause her in future. At the conclusion of this graceless speech, Hera acknowledges that Thetis is angry with Peleus and asks her to forgive him. In the end, Thetis does what Hera has asked because she has no choice; but she does not forgive Peleus, and she helps him with ill grace, which we may imagine to have been provoked, at least in part, by the feelings reawakened by Hera’s unsympathetic speech. Apollonius’ stoke of dramatic genius was to take the tendentiously rosetinted view of the wedding of Peleus and Thetis that Hera offers to the other gods in Iliad 24 and to have Hera deliver it to Thetis’ face. Just in case the reader does not understand how strongly Thetis’ reality contradicts Hera’s optimistic picture, after Thetis has delivered her instructions to Peleus in sharp, bitter words, Apollonius fills us in on yet more of the backstory. The narrator tells us that previously Peleus had interrupted his wife in alarm when he found her trying to make their newborn son, Achilles, immortal by burning off his mortal parts in the fire (4.865–879). Thetis angrily threw the baby down and left, never to return. The apparently glorious wedding ofPeleus and Thetis had an ugly aftermath, and anyone who has read Apollonius will have known that.”

Z didn't say that she doesn't know what's going on with Euphoria; she simply refused to answer questions about the new season. We know that Z is really good about not revealing work stuff unnecessarily. We got the head costume designer of Euphoria give a few long interviews a couple of weeks ago in which she revealed a bit more about the pre production process. She's a person that has to start working before principal photography starts because costume design and procurement takes time, just like other production design stuff, and she said that she was starting work on May to start shooting on June. She also said that she was emailing Z while Z was in London. Fans gotta remember that Z is a hands-on executive producer of the show, so she definitely knows what's going on, just second to Sam and his wife. She doesn't need to be in LA to attend production meetings
Also all studios are working under threat of a writers' strike that can start at any time after May 1st. That will force studios to have at least preliminary scripts submitted before May 1st to avoid production shutdowns. In the last writers' strike in 2007, productions were shut down during the strike and the writers' union picketed productions that were believed to be crossing picket lines like the Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien shows (since they had to write new content daily)
In summary, Z knows more than what she shares, and there are always some uncertainties given a possible strike starting soon

something i can’t stop thinking about: it’s so disheartening how little support heard has seen from her peers in the industry. the guthrie interview feels like it came straight out of the morning show. big little lies explicitly addresses the myth of mutual abuse and like??? where are reese witherspoon and nicole kidman? the latter is heard’s colleague? hello?? seeing jennifer aniston openly supporting d*pp’s victory???
this woman’s humiliation has been so disgustingly public and i believe that warrants public support, so why is no one showing up for her? is it truly that hopeless for women who speak out?? they have to face all of this alone??? and yeah it IS a lot of work to wade through the propaganda so at best it’s ignorance but. so many public figures that i admire and that claim to care about these issues through their storytelling who i KNOW have half a brain cell capable of critical thinking have been completely silent and it’s deafening.
there are women in the industry that have the power and resources and the fucking protection who can afford to lend a hand and a voice to a peer that desperately needs to be listened to. victims need to be able to SEE that they will receive support in real time, not on an apple tv/hbo prestige drama. NOW is the time to put your hollywood money where your mouths are and fight back. so where are y’all??
and it feels gross to place any blame on women who (bleak to think about but) might be just as powerless against this machine because of course it’s up to the people and the men with the power to not abuse and enable it in the first place. and plenty of men could be speaking out about it too!!! it just hurts more i think seeing so many powerful women purport to being champions and activists for these issues and then when it’s happening right in front of them they’re silent or even showing tepid support for the abuser. it feels like betrayal.
anyway shoutout to melanie lynskey, selma blair, and lena heady who did the bare minimum but it’s SOMETHING
couldn’t have said it better anon.
it’s all “support women” “believe survivors” “support me too” etc until it actually comes down to it and a survivor comes out about a well liked, powerful man. it’s all talk when it’s a big topic and they can face heat for not speaking about it. the second they could face any criticism for anything they’re either silent or outspoken depending on what the situation calls for.
it’s just a whole bunch of performative shit. all these people spewing shit when me too was big and popular to up their own personal agendas then years later let abusers back in their circles because it’s old news. it makes me fucking sick
but when it truly matters. when there’s no one speaking out for a victim, it’s crickets.
i give major props to those who have spoken about this and support amber publicly. it’s the absolute bare minimum but at least it’s something.

I like flawed characters it makes them more human but does Trist have any good qualities
Trysten/Trista
Punctual
Consistent
Adventurous
Imaginative
When they were ridden by their incurable disease. Trysten/Trista loved sitting by the lake painting the scenery. At that time their smile was genuine, while their laughter was carefree. Trysten/Trista wish in the past was to to see the world and paint the perfect picture before he returned to his creators embrace.
RIP. You will be missed.
Thanks for the ask. Have a good rest of day!

Have you considered making a masterpost with links to the Book of the Renegade series, rough history of the war, ect?
That's a great idea! My index page is way out of date, and I need to do a much better job indexing this blog in general – there have been way too many times where I've not been able to find something I know I once wrote, or vice versa, when I've been surprised to find something I don't remember having written! 😅

As a reminder that good exists out there, a coworker recently confessed to me that he found out his child is questioning their identity (kid's gender redacted for this post). The kid is keeping it from him, so he can't say anything to them or show that he knows, but he's doing his best to get mentally prepared and educated so that he'll be ready whenever his kid does feel comfortable enough come to him.
For context, this guy is a big, bulky middle aged dude who loves sports and typical outdoor "manly" activities. As his coworker and friend, I know he's a kind and sweet teddy bear of a person, but his kid probably views him as a stern, authoritarian figure, the way most teenagers view their parents. His family lives in a conservative area, so I'm sure between that, their dad's looks and interests, and the fact that their dad is a Figure of Authority, the kid is worried that they won't be accepted.
But you know what? When he found out about his kid, the first thing he did was reach out to his closest queer friend and ask for resources for parents of questioning children. His biggest fears are that his kid will be bullied or discriminated against and won't feel comfortable enough to be themself. His second action was to find himself a mentor in another parent who went the same situation (kid coming out in a conservative town). The other person is preparing him for some of the struggles his kid may face and the fights he may need to take on as a parent to make sure his kid is safe and treated well.
Something I want to emphasize for people focused on language as the primary method of allyship is that when we spoke, he used some outdated terms and thoughts about gender and sexuality. That does not make him bad. These were the terms and thinking used about questioning teenagers when he was growing up and he never needed to learn more current ones. But now that he does have that need, he's throwing himself in head first because that's his kid and he's darn well going to make sure that his kid feels welcomed and has a safe place to be themselves even if they never come out to him.
