KISSING DOESN’T KILL: GREED AND INDIFFERENCE DO
“Gran Fury, a collective of artists and designers dedicated to promoting AIDS/HIV awareness, produced many inventive and thought-provoking posters. AIDS activists had used the strategy of the 'Kiss-In' - large public demonstrations of affection by gay and straight people - to undermine complacency and conservative commentators alike. This 1989 advertisement, designed for display on public transport in New York City and San Francisco, ridicules small-mindedness as well as reminding the authorities of their responsibilities in combating AIDS.”

Avram Finkelstein
After a three-year delay, I finally had the honor to interview artist, activist and founding member of ACT UP and Gran Fury, Avram Finkelstein. Can’t think of a better way to wrap up one of the last days filming my Queer Street Art documentary, OUT IN THE STREETS.
Please support this film by making a 100% tax-deductible donation to OUT IN THE STREETS.

Quote
ACT UP and Gran Fury did not invent the idea that our government plays a significant role in the health of its citizens. While the mantra "healthcare is a human right" originated in ACT UP, and was popularized as a chant at ACT UP's demonstrations, ACT UP was not the first to argue something in this vein.

30 Days of Asexuality Challenge
Day 17: Your favorite “asexual” movie.
So this one is a little easier for me than books not focused on sex/romance. This is mostly because I'm much more into action/adventure on film than in books.
So my top ones are:
Mad Max: Fury Road - while this one does use sexuality as a plot point, it's more from a patriarchal "property" perspective than a romantic one. Also it's an astounding movie.
Gran Torino - another great movie, and while the main character is mourning his wife, the grief isn't focused on sexuality as much as the years they had together
Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 -- while a few of the pieces in these movies depict romance, there's a dream-like quality that makes it feel less like real sexuality. It's more like a fairy tale, where people get married because it serves the plot, not usually out of overt romance or sexuality.

seeing posts during pride month is insane like why did i see the pink triangle “silence = death” image and it was tagged “don’t use unless your a man who likes men” … honestly very deranged i don’t even know to call it other than totally ahistorical and incorrect and embarrassing…
