Some scrapped Gravity Falls casting choices:

Bob Odenkirk as Stan Pines (Matt Chapman also auditioned for the role, but his voice for him sounded too similar to his voice for Strong Bad from Homestar Runner)

Jeff Bridges as Ford Pines

David Lynch as Bill Cipher (which explains why Alex's voice for him is pretty much just an impression of Lynch's character from Twin Peaks)

Alex also wanted David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (best known as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from The X-Files) to cameo on the show at one point

Danny DeVito apparently turned down a role on the show

I tried to use a cool toned color palette, honestly, but I just don’t like it as much as my beloved warm tones lol

Also it turns out I unsurprisingly adore The X-Files. What can I say, it slots right into that paranormal-monster-hunter-American-gothic-gloomy-weathered niche that I love so much- I was bound to fall in love with it eventually, it was only a matter of time!

Yellowjackets, Jennifer’s Body, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Heathers, Veronica Mars (VM and Heathers aren’t supernatural per se, but there is some “dead girl haunting the narrative” ghost action so I’ll count it)
