Moon 158-Newleaf

Apparently Cressfreckle (74) wasn’t as subtle as he thought.  Less than a moon after Caterpillarmallow’s death, he was pushed off a cliff into some sharp rocks and died.  The culprit is unknown, but Gladepatch (34), Conegoat (41), Sleepyfoot (24), and Creekpaw (12) suspect Yuccastar.  Shortly after her grandpa dies, Creekpaw is given the warrior name of Creekstripe, honoring her vigilance.  She’s terrified of what might be coming for her, now that it seems Yuccastar is on a murder spree.  Gladepatch mourns the loss of his last parent.  He knows that this is not the life Cressfreckle wanted for his family, but is glad that at least he is reunited with Airclaw, Graysong, and Yellowcreek in StarClan.  Brioche (72) also couldn’t beat the redcough and died.  But all is not horrible in the Clan.  Amethystdapple has a litter of four kits.  There’s the daydreaming Mossykit (0), who has a medium strength fire-blessing; the surprisingly bossy Goldenkit (0), who surprises the Clan with her water-blessing when neither of her parents share that magic; the fittingly named Brightkit (0) with her bullying personality and fire-blessing; and Primkit (0).  An attention-seeking little girl who seems to be. . .emitting darkness.  Conegoat is the one who’s helping with the kitting and, thinking of how Yuccastar has treated dark-cursed kits in the past (e.g. by killing them) opts not to tell her.  She, Amethystdapple, Fry (65), Gladepatch, and Creekstripe are the only ones who know and they want to keep it that way.  Creekstripe knows that, if she decides to lead a coup against Yuccastar and expose her, she will become leader.  She’s not sure she’s ready for that yet.  But if Yuccastar discovers Primkit’s powers, she will expose their leader as a murderer.  She needs to protect this kit like she couldn’t protect her brother.

Meta: In the game, Yuccastar did in fact murder Cressfreckle. Both of them had mutual hatred for each other even without me mediating them to hate each other. I did not want Cressfreckle to die.

FROSTDAWN'S LITTERMATES?? they have done LITERALLY nothing besides be the obligatory siblings. UGH

I think it would be neat if Graysky (Graysong in my AU) would've been the one to kill Splashtail. I'm planning to give him and Mistpaw more relevance from the get-go so it wouldn't be out of nowhere. What would that relevance be? idk, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it But ANYWAY, in the AU, Graysong is a bit more muscular. I want Clans to have different leadership styles. Like, the leader and deputy thing still stays, but how they approach those are different. RiverClan might have an "enforcer" outside of the leader and deputy. kind of like an officer, yk? Enforcing the rules that are already set, but they don't have a special status like the deputy. enforcers could be any role (most commonly a warrior, but a medcat or queen enforcer wouldn't be too uncommon) and they have the leader's favor.

SO, since Curlfeather was aiming to be leader, grooming Splashtail to be her deputy (also Frostdawn's arc could also include ending the cycle of abuse holy shit?!?), Graysong might have been an enforcer because he inherited Jayclaw's more muscular build. Muscular but lean, if that makes sense. He could tackle you and make it hurt, but you could also body slam him. Curlfeather is APPARENTLY overprotective of Frostdawn and her littermates (said in River) since Jayclaw died before they were born, but we don't really see that outside of Curlfeather controlling and grooming Frostpaw

So I think this kind of controlling blanket enclosed all of the siblings. I'll get to Mistpaw, but for Graysong, it kind of made him pull away from social interaction and rely more on himself. This is also how he learned to show affection. He was a very diligent kit and apprentice, and he always wanted to battle train, but he wasn't bloodthirsty, he was protective (and maybe a bit controlling as well, depending on where I take his character hehe). so when he saw his sister who had been missing from the Clans without a word for quite some time, about to be murdered by a dictator, something in him just snapped. And yeah, he's younger than Splashface (Splashtail) as well, but unlike Frostdawn, he's been training as a warrior/enforcer for his entire life, PUSHING for battle training, and he would've taken Splashface off-guard, so him killing Splashface is plausible to me.

When Splashface becomes leader, Fognose is his deputy. She advocates for Graypaw being the enforcer, despite Graypaw being Curlfeather's kit (who Splashface hates) and an apprentice. To compensate, Scalestream (canon name is Gorseclaw, this name might change) is the enforcer, and Graypaw's mentor switches from Breezeheart to Scalestream.

Scalestream is who he graduates under. Splashface names him Crookedslime. Crooked- reflecting Splashface's distrust and hatred for all of Curlfeather's kits, and -slime reflecting Splashface's perception of Graypaw; someone who sticks to authority no matter what. So, Crookedslime as a whole name means "suspicious cat who conforms to authority cats."

When all is said and done, when he's reflecting later, he hates how Splashface was kind of right.

When Icewater (Icewing lmfao) becomes leader, Crookedslime's name is changed to Graysong. Gray- because it is his birth name and he is a stoic cat, and -song because he makes the right choices in the end. He served under Splashface without complaint, but ultimately killed him when Frostdawn was about to be murdered.

So, his name as a whole means "dutiful cat who can make the wrong choices but rights them."

Under Icestar, Graysong is the enforcer. He's also the guard for Fognose when she is imprisoned instead of exiled. It tastes bitter for a reason he cannot name, but he doesn't say anything. It'll go away eventually. ... And speaking of names, Mistpaw.

I imagine her as an avoidant character. She wants to fade into the background. She doesn't want to deal with drama.

She and Graysky have practically the same personality in the books because they're so minor.

In my AU, she's soft and a sweetheart, and in a hypothetical where Mistpaw was the one exiled instead, she would've stayed with the Park Cats because it's such a nice calm change of pace.

Mistpaw isn't afraid of change until it hurts her.

She doesn't like to face reality. it's kinda canon in the books as well since canon Mistpaw said this:

"It's true that I'm pleased for you. But I'm confused, too. Our mother seemed so sure that you were meant to be a medicine cat. She went on and on about your dreams...It all seemed so certain. […] That's what's worrying me. Because it was you, Frostpaw, who said StarClan told you Curlfeather was to be our new leader. But if you were never really a medicine cat, if the visions weren't real, then does that mean our mother wasn't destined to be our leader after all? Because if she wasn't, then she didn't have to die." - Shadow pg 92

Anyway, when Frostpaw was traumatized from Curlfeather's death in River, I imagine AU-Mistpaw wouldn't have said anything when she was being pressured to go to the Moonpool (even though Frostpaw witnessed Curlfeather get torn to shreds by dogs there LMFAO RiverClan is full of assholes), but like, at night she would've snuck into Frostpaw's nest and groomed her and such and tell her things like "You don't have to go, Graypaw and I won't make you go, Graypaw will stand up to the Clan, etc." to comfort her sister.

Mistpaw would've also been traumatized by the fact that Graysong killed Splashface and would've been horrified when Frostdawn half-dies. She refuses to leave her sister's side throughout it all, grooming her pelt and bringing her food (though she knows she won't eat it bc haha coma), and Mistpaw even tries out different herbs to make her wake up.

She doesn't find them particularly interesting or thrilling, but something about them is just worth the time. I imagine RiverClan's med-dens are kinda like land coves? Accessible, but isolated. Medicine cats most likely sleep there for protection of both themselves and herbs if a raid were to happen.

So the quietness of the den and taking care of her sister convinces Mistpaw to do two major things.

1: When Frostpaw comes back to life and is granted her name of Frostdawn by Mothwing, the -dawn part inspires Mistpaw. Canonically, Frostdawn was given the -dawn suffix to celebrate change, leading RiverClan into a bright dawn, yada yada. I'm keeping it in my AU, so when Graysong and Mistpool are granted their names by the newly appointed Icestar, Mistpool rejects her name. She doesn't want to be tied to Curlfeather after being in denial for so long, she doesn't want to think about how she didn't stick up for her sister at any point and Frostdawn STILL loves her. She doesn't want to think about the events of ASC at all.

This causes an argument with Graysong because he values identity, but Icestar grants Mistpool a new name of Fishleap, to symbolize the skittish but graceful nature of fish, which can translate into a cat's personality. Icestar was Fishleap's mentor, and she understands. "Icewater," is actually a humiliation name from her time in the dark forest that she chose to keep.

Fishleap rejecting and changing her name... it isn't healing. It's avoidance, but it's a start. Fishleap couldn't tell you if she regrets changing her name or not. Would she go back to Mistpool? Would she compromise with Mistleap or Fishpool? Who knows? She doesn't.

2: When Frostdawn goes back to being a medcat, Fishleap follows. Unlike Frostdawn, Fishleap was never a med-cat. She never even thought of training as one until after the events of AU-ASC. But as I alluded to earlier, something about the profession just draws her in. Being a warrior is stressful. Her mentor was Icewater, and Icewater (and Curlfeather, but she doesn't want to think about that shh) often had to coax Mistpaw out of the apprentice's den to train.

It was always one excuse after another; she's tired, she hurt her ankle, she isn't feeling well, blah blah blah.

But with being a med-cat, there are no excuses. Fishleap doesn't need to make an excuse. She doesn't have a connection to StarClan, but Mothwing doesn't even like StarClan, and Frostdawn doesn't have one either.

(I'm ignoring the fact that her connection to StarClan got retconned in halfway through the arc DESPITE IT BEING SAID FROSTPAW DOESN'T HAVE A CONNECTION?!) Fishleap can just treat cats and gather herbs. So simple.

Her switching from a warrior to med-cat also starts an argument with Graysong, and it kind of leads to a falling out, but as I said earlier, avoidance isn't healing, so I imagine Frostdawn, after everything she went through and the lessons she learned, would want to gentle push her sister in the path of healing, like she is.

Fishleap's name under Splashface was Shredshell, and its meaning is very simple. "Cat whose borders are broken down."

RELIGIONVERSE: set in 1950s new york city following an angel named theodore who is very much not supposed to be on earth. other key characters are his wife (cecily) his weird priest situationship (elijah) god (deity) and luci (satan) ALSO I HAVE A GOOGLE DOC CHRONICLING MOST OF THE LORE THAT YOU CAN READ HERE

INDIE: weird loser named atticus stalks his partner from highschool (axel) because thats easier than addressing his deep-seated childhood trauma. other key characters are axels current girlfriend (mitchell) takes place from the time theyre in 7th grade (2012) to more or less present day (2022)

okay so my autistic viktor headcanons for, like, pre-jgpf because holy shit this got long:

-his first stim (+ special interest!) is ice skating, but not just the movement of his body- he absolutely loves the sound of blades on ice and the clean noise it makes? when he’s little, he kicks into the ice just to hear the sound (once he starts jumps, they become his favorite because of the noise. he likes the movement, sure, but the clean scraping is so beautiful and he still loves it

-another one of his stims is braiding/combing/playing with his long hair!! he loves keeping it soft and shiny and the way it flows back when he skates really fast

-his early life doesn’t really lend itself to sensory overload much- yakov’s house is quiet and he doesn’t skate in front of unfamiliar/big crowds that much

-which means his first big sensory overload, at the age of 14 at his first gpf qualifier, is a Mess

-he doesn’t know he’s autistic yet at this point because all of his coping mechs and stims are neatly integrated into his life- he has a training schedule and nutrition schedule that he sticks to, he’s so tired out by the time he gets back to yakov’s apartment that he thinks the too-bright lights and little noises are just him being cranky and tired instead of sensory stuff, he doesn’t have much of an opportunity to talk to people his age because Skating so he chalks up the social awkwardness to that

-so when he first walks into the massive stadium with all of the Lights and People and Noises and Smells he honestly nearly throws up from the immediate headache he gets

-yakov finds him in the skaters lounge with his training jacket over his face and hands clamped against his ears and immediately assumes he’s nervous (it is his first big competition, after all)

-he ends up falling a lot during practice, but once yakov is able to get him to a private session, with dimmer lights and less people, he starts doing better

-this is when yakov begins to notice things- the way viktor drums his fingers against his thighs, his strict adhering to schedules (or complete lack, nothing in between), the way he ignores himself for skating (viktor will literally forget to eat and drink water if he’s too into a routine, especially when he’s younger)

-he scores 4th in his first jgpf qualifier bc the crowds drown out the sound of blades and everything is Bright

-yakov buys him a tangle afterwards and it helps. he soon finds out about those little handheld puzzle games and he always has one in his skate bag

-he also loves spinner rings, because theyre small and he can wear it while he skates

-he starts practicing with the recorded sounds of crowds in the background so he can get used to it. he never quite does, but it helps

-he comes in 2nd in his second qualifier and doesnt make the final, but he’s still really proud of himself

-then, yakov asks if he wants to try helping choreograph his programs, thinking that maybe the control over his movements will help

-a new special interest appears- not just skating, but /designing/ routines that not only look nice, but sound nice

-he’s 27 and his favorite noise is still the clean scrape of blades on new ice

Mosskit still collapses in the snow, but is still breathing [if barely]. Bluefur is panicked and hurries through the storm to bring the three to their father.

Mosskit manages to make a full recovery and is absolutely fascinated by the medicine cat den, as Oakheart keeps his kits there for a few days to make sure they're all okay

Before becoming an apprentice, Mosskit comes out as a tom and admits to his father that he really wants to become a medicine cat. He is about to tell his son no, when Brambleberry and Mudfur come together and say they're okay with the extra paw, especially since Brambleberry is getting on in age and Mudfur is already a full adult tom and he'd be reassured that there's another medicine cat if anything happens to him

Oakheart is hesitant, but agrees. Mistykit and Stonekit are happy for their brother.

Mosskit becomes Mosspaw, the medicine cat, as his siblings become the warrior apprentices Mistypaw and Stonepaw.

During his first gathering, he sees Bluefur for the first time and something clicks together as he looks away from her and at his siblings. Deep down part of him knows, but he keeps it inside.

Time passes and, after Brambleberry passes, he becomes Mossberry. His siblings also become warriors - Mistyfoot and Stonefur, like in canon.

He returns to the Moonstone a couple days later based on a gut feeling and he encounters Bluestar and Featherwhisker. Bluestar dismisses her medicine cat and the two talk. She admits she is his mother and tells him what happened.

Mossberry is confused by this news, even though he had this gut feeling. While he's coming to terms, Bluestar nuzzles him and mentions she was proud of him and that no matter who he was or what he trained as, she loved him and his siblings. He gets emotional at this and tells her that it was his time as a kit that made him want to be a medicine cat.

The two depart and Mossberry promises to bring Oakheart, Mistyfoot, and Stonefur to the border to talk.

The truth is revealed and there's skepticism from the other two until Oakheart confirms. The five of them have a small family bonding time.

A lot of time passes, with secret family visits, and then Tigerstar takes over ShadowClan. Mossberry watches in horror as Tigerstar tries to have Stonefur killed and ends up breaking up the fight, shoving himself between his brother and Blackfoot.

He fights pretty viciously for a medicine cat and ends up severely wounded before Mistyfoot and Stonefur manage to fight Blackfoot off. Tigerstar almost kills the three himself when Firestar, Ravenpaw, and Graystripe break in and rescue them and Graystripe's apprentice-aged kits.

Mossberry makes a full recovery, thankfully, and Stonefur is revealed as Mistyfoot scolds Moss for scaring them like that. They nuzzle after and Mossberry promises not to scare them again.

Tigerstar is defeated and Mossberry is torn about returning to RiverClan, as is Stonefur. Mossberry eventually caves in and rejoins his sister in RiverClan, but Stonefur stays behind a bit longer.

And that longer takes even longer when it's revealed that Stonefur, while in ThunderClan, had gotten really close to Longtail. The two had been hurt by the actions of Tigerstar and Stonefur admits that he doesn't feel like he could be the deputy of Leopardstar. At least not right now.

Next gathering is when Mossberry realizes that Stonefur and Longtail are more than just 'friends hurt by the same guy'.

Leopardstar tries to make Mistyfoot her deputy, but Misty insists her brother will return. Eventually Leopard gives up and Heavystep her deputy. Around this time is when Mothpaw and Hawkpaw join the Clan and Mossberry is cautious about these kits [and about brown tabbies in general].

He relaxes after some time and is quick to agree to let Mothwing become his apprentice, though Mudfur tells him to calm down and wait for a sign, since she isn't Clanborn.

Mossberry counters and argues that he is the RiverClan medicine cat despite being half ThunderClan, but Mudfur argues that Mossberry was still born a Clan cat.

Even while Mudfur waits for a sign, Mossberry secretly gives Mothwing some pointers on herbs while she's still a warrior and the two become fast friends.

Mudfur gets the "sign" and Mossberry gets super excited to show Mothwing everything - including to pretend to teach her the things he had already shown her.

Over in ThunderClan, Longtail is blinded by a rabbit, but doesn't retire. At this point he and Stonefur are publicly together and the two work together to help Longtail. They also have a queen helping them as a surrogate [who it is doesn't matter] and they're excited to be dads.

Things proceed somewhat like canon involving the moving to the lake territories and everything else. Mossberry meets his nieces, Swiftkit and Graykit [named after Swiftpaw and Graypool], and his nephew, Mossykit. Stonefur admits he was thinking of Moss and Misty at the time.

Mossberry is shown to be suspicious of Hawkfrost after the near assassination of Onewhisker/Onestar, but keeps that to himself so not to upset Mothwing. However, he slips up and apologizes. That's when Mothwing admits that her brother has done bad things and that he had sworn her to secrecy because he faked the sign against her will.

Mossberry assures her it's not her fault and promises to stick up for her when he needs to. When Hawkfrost is found dead, he gives her time to grieve.

There's not too much else I wanna add I do have some side notes like

I love the idea of Heavystar, but I can also accept him not becoming the next leader only if his replacement in Minnowtail. Cause. Minnowstar.

Swiftkit, a dark tabby with white legs, later becomes Swiftflight. Graykit, who is a little clone of her dad, becomes Graysong. Mossykit, who is gray and white with darker gray patches, becomes Mossyfur.

Mistyfoot finally passes away probably between OotS and AVoS. Before she gets too old, she does have a second litter [probably right before TPoT] The second litter includes - Bluekit/Blueclaw, a dark-blue gray tom with one silver paw [and silver toes on the rest], and Wavekit/Wavefur, a black tom with really thick fur.

Oohh Shadowsight's friendship with Bristlefrost. They're cousins! They should be good friends!! I just wish they were closer lol, I miss how close POV characters were 😔

Moon 146-Newleaf

Cressfreckle (62) has been upping his investigation of Yuccastar (125).  He’s been eavesdropping on her (which is a lot harder for a powerless cat than one with wind powers) and been seeing if any other cats in the Clan share his dislike of their leader.  He knows that Gladepatch (22) does, but highly doubts that Peakspots (115) and Chervilcry (125) do.  Mothecho probably would have, if she hadn’t been taken by twolegs.  Maybe his former apprentice Cypressbadger (12)?  Moorleg (58), despite being kind of annoying with her crush on him, may also end up on his side.  Maybe Pigeonspot (15) too.  Moorleg has noticed that Cressfreckle likes spending time with the kits, and so she has taken to doing so as well.  She has a great time getting into a mock battle with Rabbitkit (2).  Chasingskip (58) is looking out for her surviving kits and asks Sleepypaw (12) if there are any herbs she should look out for while on patrol later.    Steppemimic (29) has been stressed with training an apprentice and needs some more downtime.  Wildcave (29) offers to take Sleepypaw out for a patrol, which his sister appreciates.  And that gives Steppemimic a chance to hang out with Pigeonspot.  She’s the only cat that can make her laugh and its fascinating to see what an earth-blessed warrior gets up to.  Meanwhile in the elder’s den, Strawberrytrail (134) doesn’t want to take her herbs and gets in a fight with Sleepypaw.  After the fight, she ignores the Healer apprentice. Sleepypaw is also feeling ignored by her mentor and feels like Steppemimic has been shoving her off onto other cats. In the nursery, Wormkit (2) absolutely adores his sisters and hopes that Featherkit (2) will be his friend forever.  And it looks like they’ll be getting some new companions. While on a patrol, Conegoat (29) and Gladepatch find a pair of kittens next to their dead parent.  While investigating them, Gladepatch notices that one is clearly emanating. . .darkness.  And the plants around her are dead.  A dark-cursed cat!  And the other. . .well, the signs around him are fainter, but they’re there.  Two dark-cursed kittens.  Gladepatch remembers what happened to his brother and father because of their magic, and begs Conegoat to keep it a secret. He tells her that Yuccastar actually killed his brother because of his magic.  Conegoat is shocked, but agrees to keep the secret.  They take the two kittens back to camp.  The girl is named Creekkit (0) and the boy is named Songkit (0), after Yellowcreek and Graysong.

Crowfeather and Leafpool felt really underdeveloped and out-of-nowhere, especially after he just went through all the drama with Feathertail. Crow/Leaf was very rushed and ultimately pointless, like the Erins only needed them to be together to kickstart all that drama in Po3. 

Graysong -- most underdeveloped friendship

Brambleclaw and Sorreltail was a very underdeveloped friendship. It started off strong, but we didn’t see the beginning and then it bottomed out as soon as Brambleclaw left on the journey.
