Ohh Dimitri Greaterboston’s whole thing reminds me of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, specifically how the tv show presented the “holistic” thing. Dimitri is definitely one of those holistic “leaf on the wind” agents of the universe.

(In my heart, several years from now our heroes will avert the robot+necromancy mind control dystopia [because you know Legion is just going to try again, now that they know it’s possible] via a subtle information campaign that brings the new Coney Island hivemind cheese robots into the realm of urban legend, where Dimitri Stamatis, End of the Unsolved, is waiting with the narrative and maybe literal equivalent of a 2x4. He will be accompanied by Mallory and many others, possibly including a taskforce and/or small army of sentient rats from the hidden rat societies under all major human cities.)

Surely, surely I can't be posting a review this early in the night?? What have a become?? Nah, just joking, still a night owl. Just slightly sooner than normal. Let's talk about Greater Boston (@greaterbostonshow ) from @alexander_danner and @vandreasonable . Greater Boston is a spec-fic alternate Boston, USA. A Boston where a nutty man, "The Mayor of the Red Line" train inadvertently sets into motion a petition to make the Red Line train into its own municipality. Cars sold as real estate to buyers hungry to have anywhere to live during Boston's ongoing housing crisis, homes that rotate through passengers at the same time. The ultimate in, "if you lived her, you'd be home right nows" And while this might be enough of a plot hook, there's also just a massive, wonderful cast of characters. Leon, the ultra-type A person with a kind soul, Gemma a no nonsense woman who happens to work for a ridiculous astrology guru-type magazine with Leon, Third Sight. Leon's brother, Dimitri who disappears on ridiculous fantasy adventures, like looking for sasquach, Leon's sister, Nica, who's trying to find herself and hold it together, Leon's friend Michael, who Leon has tried to prop up for years and who he'll keep helping in surprising ways, Oliver West, the evil scheming owner of Third Sight Media, Emily Bespin, the grossest of social climbing rich people who wants to be mayor of Red Line, as well as many others, like my own personal favorite, Mallory, who talks fast, swears a lot, and wants to be a veterinarian. It's a hoot. It's dark, it's light, it's comedy, it's strangely cozy, it's spec-fic, it's a whole world in a bottle and you'll want to know all about it. Even the theme song is catchy! Ongoing since 2016, season 4, is coming soon, I'm sure. Episodes are 30-60 minutes long, and loads of mini-sodes at less than 10 minutes. If you like comedy spec-fic, character driven plots, well developed worlds, or are a Bostonian, then Greater Boston is for you!
