The superior captain marvel is an immortal 8 year old newsboy who stopped aging when he received his powers and faces magical problems of the dream-logic variety while transformed into a hyper-buff version of his last memory of his father's smiling face, who hasn't had a stable home since his uncle kicked him out and stole his inheritance and is STILL as pure of heart as Snow White was in 1939 and has a magical talking stuffed animal who is sometimes a very dapper chap and sometimes a fuck you tiger. And that is simply the fact of the matter.

The potential for found family in the Avengers was something that drew me and so many others to the MCU in the early days. Those Avengers Tower fanfics where they were just hanging out were everything to younger me. But in the actual movies, we barely got close to that. There's the Shawarma bonus scene in the first Avengers movie, and we get crumbs in other places (personally I'll always be an Age of Ultron lover if only for getting to see them hanging out for a bit), but it's not a lot in comparison to the total screen time of the MCU.
And then there was Eternals. And they were actually found family. We got to sit with these characters in a way the fast pace of the Avengers movies had never allowed. We didn't have to rely on a post-credit scene to see them spending normal time together; we got to see them bantering around a kitchen table like family! We saw them at their jobs, in their normal lives. Sprite and Sersi chatting on their nighttime walk. All of the past flashbacks. So many moments where you're like yes! This is a family! Like Druig passing the box of Twinkies to Ikaris, the whole reunion scene with Druig, etc.
Sure, I would have loved to know even more about these characters, and a TV show would have given us space to flesh them and their relationships out more, but we didn't get a TV show; we got a movie. For a movie that takes place over centuries and has this huge Celestials plotline going on, I'd say they did a pretty great job introducing us to these characters and their dynamics. Also just the fact that there was still such a huge, save the world, high-stakes plot and YET. And yet we still got to take our time with these characters. We had this character-focused, philosophical, morally complex story (with the best cinematography of any MCU movie) and on top of all of that, more found family than the Avengers movies ever had.

Was thinking about our Pineses different styles of comedy and I realized Mabel's and Ford's are kind of the same in a way.
Originally was thinking of who of the 4 of them was the funniest for me, and I decided it's Dipper. I can't express how much I've laughed with him. Or more like, AT him, i realized. Unlike the others, most of the comedy that involves him is at his expense. Almost every character thought bad things of him at the very least (including Ford! In his first impressions in Journal 3) and the way he's so insecure and awkward and weird, and that almost everybody bullies him, is just so funny to me. God forbid me lmao.
Stan's comedy is more aimed at how shameless he is with his criminal activities and kind of fucked up stuff he says, like "finally a good reason to punch a teenager in the face!". Most of the times the jokes that involve him are simply funny because they're sudden, mean (him to others, which feeds the kind of humor that involves Dipper and a variety of other minor characters) and/or unexpected of someone as rough as him, like crying at a telenovela. Of course we also laugh AT him many times just like we do with every character, but the fact he is so shameless, unlike Dipper, makes it very different.
Mabel and Ford are funny just because they're both insane and have extremely weird interests. You could say it's also laughing AT them but this feels of a different nature than laughing at Dipper. So i'd say it's more like laughing WITH them, like we usually do with Stan. What's funny (in the strange sense) is that Ford did share Dipper's awkwardness when he was younger, but as far as I remember, it was never played for laughs like it was for Dipper. Mabel and Ford both are reckless, absentminded and go extra on everything, which is very amusing, but they also have a riddiculous taste in everything. For example, Mabel likes toothpaste and Ford likes human blood. Mabel bedazzles her face and Ford sets it on fire. They use grappling hooks and jump out of windows epically. They are shameless too, but while Stan is unabashedly greedy and his comedy usually intentionally harms others or their property, they unabashedly just are their own strange person from start to finish. And the result is pretty funny.

TW S/A MENTIONS. it angers me so much how no one ever talks about how good of s/a rep Deadpool is. I searched for hours and only found one person on here talking about it and analyzing it. Nothing on Reddit really either. And TWT was completely dry. People seem to brush Deadpool’s abuse and s/an experience off by saying “hes a joke character” do you know how fucking stupid you sound? He is not just a ‘joke character’ sure he may make funny quips and jokes but it’s clear he has had trauma and many things happen to him in his childhood. In the first movie he states he was molested by his uncle. In the comics he is also stated to have been molested by his mother. HIS MOTHER. When his dad found out he beat wade so bad he ended up in the hospital. After that he was directly sent to an orphanage where the director became his mother figure, though, she too began molesting him. Luckily he did get out of there but all these things in his childhood have greatly affected him. I do believe that, like anyone trying to hope with something like this, he became hypersexual. Now, this is just a headcanon from what I have observed about him, but he shows many traits of it. Hypersexuality is a completely valid trauma response for anyone that has been though something like s/a. I don’t really have anything more to say, other than i love Deadpool and hes actually amazing representation of an s/a survivor.

Still so iconic of Matt fraction to start his run like anyways off screen Clint and Kate who have met a few times before this run have become besties and are fundamentally now intertwined characters. Like and that’s just canon now. I think more comic writers should be willing to kinda just decide a new status quo like that especially with characters that have been under utilized
#and now it’s part of their characters that would seem really weird if changed#like they were on okay terms Clint and Kate were like we can both be Hawkeye that’s cool#but like that was it really unless I’ve misremembered#idk it’s just something I think about alot and like#that’s the fun of comics sometimes a run comes out of nowhere with new stuff that comes to define a character#it’s cool to see the medium like change and move and like be alive#having characters that get passed around to different writers over like decades and like almost a hundred year is so cool#and something you don’t see really that much out side of comics#like old folklore story cycles yes but like modern stuff#though with the obsessions with reboots that is changing but it’s still different#I’m just obsessed with that sort of shared cultural story telling I guess it#sound be surprising in retrospect I was obsessrd with comic books folklore mythology and fairytales as a kid#bc in a way they are the same#that’s all#maybe when I’m not taking a break getting distracted from writing a paper I’ll come back to these thoughts#and put them together in a more coherent way or expand on it more#but who knows man I feel like that doesn’t really happen but also I e been in law school hell for 3 years maybe things will change once#I graduate#anyways gotta go write#Hawkeye#hawkeye squared#kate bishop#clint barton#marvel#sometimes I feel bad about tagging my like stream of consciousness thoughts but also I want my blog to be functional for me to be able to#find stuff and like I tell myself people can scroll past it or use the block button fi I annoy them

“Reborn,” Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu (Vol. 2/2024), #2.
Writer: Jed MacKay; Penciler and Inker: Alessandro Cappuccio; Colorist: Rachelle Rosenberg; Letterer: Cory Petit
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu#Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu vol. 2#Moon Knight: Fist if Khonshu 2024#Moon Knight comics#latest release#Moon Knight#Marc Spector#Iron Man#Tony Stark#you can’t tell me Mr. At One Point Had His Own Star Trek Uniform didn’t immediately clock the classic#«I’m a doctor not a…» set up hahaha#(Although maybe I’ve played too much Rainbow Six Siege because it also reminded me of Jäger’s «I’m an engineer not a medic!»#love that guy ANYWAY)#okokokok this is….interesting#I’m I guess you could say intrigued that so far it seems this volume is shaping up to make addressing Marc’s self-proclaimed addiction#to violence a central theme as it’s come up in both comics released so far#I guess I never thought they’d take it seriously since such descriptions of one reason why Marc does what he does is because he’s hooked#on the sort of high-octane rush that comes with combat have popped up in his comics for years#but that language was pretty common in 80’s and 90’s comics portraying tough guy characters willing to kill people#but it’ll be interesting to me at least to see how this more serious approach will develop#Mr. MacKay has given me little reason to doubt him so far but if they continue with this#idea of treating addiction seriously since they’re using the language associated with it I hope they’ll address it#with the appropriate gravity such a topic necessitates#anyway don’t mind me musing in the tags
