HIIII!!! I have soooo many favourites! But here's some of my recommendations for Halloween!

CENSOR [BLOOD/SEXUAL HARASSMENT/UNREALITY/CHILD ENDANGERMENT] A woman on the British film censorship board is put on a new case load, reviewing an infamously controversial director. And is torn into mania as she begins to realise that these gore fest horror movies are documenting her childhood.

GLORIOUS [NSFW/GORE/BLOOD/BODY HORROR/UNREALITY/EXISTENTIALISM] Glorious is a dark comedy/horror about a man locked inside of a gas station bathroom with a strange companion. Speaking through a glory hole in the bathroom stall, an ancient god asks him a favour. It's a high energy more light hearted horror flick! (Also the elder god is voice acted by J.K Simmons.)

HOUSE OF WAX (1953) [ABLEISM/BLOOD] Starring Vincent Price as the Wax Museum curator! Featuring a small American township dwindling in numbers just as the neighbouring wax museum begins to make more and more money depicting true crime scenes and hyper-realistic models.

SAW [BLOOD/GORE/UNSANITARY] An obvious classic. Everyone knows this one. Two dudes are chained to opposite walls in the same dingy bathroom with no exit in sight. One of them has a promise bubbling below the surface- the knowledge that he will be freed if he kills his cell mate. FANTASTIC if you've never seen it before - its kinda trashy but like. GOOD trashy imo ^3^

DEATH BECOMES HER [BLOOD] More of a thriller/comedy but oh my godddd its so GOOD. A local celebrity and her husband, a seasoned mortician, faces the true consequences of guaranteed immortality. (Also Meryl Streep is in it and she's hot)

YOU WON'T BE ALONE Set in a small 19th century village, the village witch begins to live inside of the skin of a girl she accidentally killed. And finds herself craving more lives, more experiences, new skin.

POSSESSOR An elite assassin uses a specialised neural tech to possess others and puppet the bodies of the people close to the target to carry out her jobs. After her new assignment her most recent link has gotten into her head and refuses to leave until it ruins her.

Hi! If you're still taking scream requests, may I ask for some Stu headcanons with a very silly/goofy reader (gender neutral if you can)? Just some absolute clowns in love.

Fuck yeah! And yeah I still am, it’s till the 10th

- You two are complete fucking idiots in the best way.

- You met and there was a connection, but you both managed to trip over yourselves so much it still took a full year to actually date, and several misunderstandings before you became serious.

- Constant prank wars. It’s chaos. Stu prefers to scare you since he’s a master of standing behind doors and using horror tropes, but you have an intimate knowledge of supernatural horror and can weaponize it. It’s all in good fun and nobody gets too mad, though a knife or two have been thrown. You learned the hard way not to hide his movies like he learned not to hide your favorite snacks.

-Plus lots of joke shop pranks to keep things interesting.

- Halloween is the best time of year. Always dressed up as slashers and psychologically torturing teenagers by recreated your favorite moments. One usually films so you can compare to the movie scenes directly, and as backup when the other gets decked.

-because you two get decked /a lot/. All the ghostface injuries from the original times ten. You’ve fallen down several flights of stairs.

- Horror comedies! Billy couldn’t stand them but Stu and you watch them religiously!

- Dark comedies. You both are the giggles at a funeral. That’s probably why you aren’t ever invited to them. Do people get invited to funerals? Stu wants themes birthday cards for his funeral invites now. You want wedding style invitations with comic sans and vague instructions.

- You eventually become an honorary Ghostface when needed, he thinks it’s insanely hot. You probably fuck in the mask at least once.

- The two of you aren’t problem solvers, and you mostly do the murder thing out of boredom, since you don’t really have a motive beyond mania.

- Both of you have trouble taking things seriously, which can occasionally cause problems, but most times you resolve it on your own. When

-You have to fight over the braincell.

- You’re nothing like Tatum or Casey, and he has no desire to kill you, which he’s very vocal about. You’re pretty sure it’s his way of professing his love.

- You two probably get a dog, a really big and dumb one. It reminds you of him.

- Stu is very clingy, he holds you like you’re about to disappear, even in his sleep. You’re pretty clingy too.

- Lots of sex.

- He loves them because they feel like a best friend, an an equal. They never make him feel stupid but keep him in his place, and make their own mistakes that makes them human.

- They love him because he has heart. He really is sensitive under the goofing and the homicide, and it’s amazing to see underneath that to who he is. How he shows the world his true self but still keeps his own secrets that only they know. They he wears his heart of his sleeve but it’s theirs to keep. That he’s flawed and scarred and irrevocably human in a way no other slasher was.

I've had bad depressive episodes- more than I count- since I was 12. The hypomanic episodes- I don't know how long I've had them. Sometimes, since my baseline is usually sadness and anxiety peppered with neutrality, it is hard for me to tell the difference between feeling happy and hypomania- Am I just feeling good? Am I scrambling to get everything done before the next depression hits or is this maniacal energy? The past few days...there has been NO question that I'm hypomanic, perhaps even experiencing full blown mania.

These are the worst symptoms I have ever had. I've heard things before...during a bad depressive episode and during times when I am overstimulated or sleep-deprived. They've always caught me by surprise- I hear them internally, of course, but imagine being completely alone and hearing a voice that isn't coming out of your own mouth or your phone. I've always paused after it happens, at least momentarily. Before this week, they had been nonsensical words and phrases that weren't contextual. Today, though. I woke up after few hours of sleep and immediately I was in eye-bulging, hand-trembling, panic city.

I couldn't stay in bed anymore. I got up, pulled my hair back, and went and got my usual iced coffee. LIKE AN IDIOT. Sure, lets add caffeine to this mix of heart palpitations and paranoia. Dum-dum. By the time I got back home I was sitting in my car, hearing a voice telling me I was "loveless." "It's just a voice...a biochemical issue...a brain glitch from new meds and genetics and lack of sleep." Yeah, I started bawling anyways. Loveless? Add into the fact that I have zero confidence right now and feel the most unmarketable I have ever felt and feel super attracted to someone I am talking to who, I'm pretty sure, thinks I'm a soft 4 (if that). And then someone on the Youtube replied to a non-inflammatory comment I made about Pete Davidson's fine self with insults of me being ugly and fat. I stared at the vegetarian breakfast sandwhich I had in the seat next too me, felt nauseated and it was waterworks. Fuck, I'm just trying my best. The psych meds have put weight on me.

I called my mom, asked her if I seem hypomanic. "Nope you seem happy." I called my brother, with his steady, calculated tone and told him my symptoms and told him I was scared. I mean, they aren't equipped to deal with this but I don't talk to many people. OH and I messaged the person I am talking to, who also deals with similar issues, and had a meltdown. I mean, things are great 👍. I went inside, called a nurse line and messaged my therapist, both advised ER. I can't. I can't miss any work. I'll go to this 6 hour short shift and drive myself to ER afterwards if I still feel like my brain is rolling out of my skull and down into a ditch. I have the next two days off. I called my insurance's helpline that is staffed with LCSWs, telling her I can't miss work, and we came up with a plan. Which I have written down on a notecard to keep in my pocket today. Listen, my aunt was late onset schizophrenic and her daughter was as well, I'm not going to pretend like I'm not scared. But all I can do is try to support myself and handle it. And not panic.

I had plans to go to a haunted house/Halloween theme park tonight as well. I love love love horror, but I'm guessing that could be triggering for me right now so I canceled. I feel so badly, he got tickets. But I have to coddle this organ under my skullcap right now. It's the only one I have.

What do you think a post-meds/post-therapy (bc he obviously needs both), mentally healthy Gary would look like? Most of what we see in-game is off-meds-and-super-paranoid Gary, and it made me wonder how much of his personality is genuine and how much is borne from megalomania and paranoia. so, somehow i think that we mostly got a quite close picture during the initial missions of chapter 1 (maybe up until halloween???), maybe just a bit more cruel - but i still do think that he's. generally quite mean?? i think it's implied that he gets along quite decently (or at least is able to communicate) with derby harrington, and honestly that does mean something. like he's still an unhinged sixteen years old trying to have fun in high school, except this time he's actually trying to have fun instead of... what he went through during the game

i don't think he'd be any less witty than we generally see him also. he'd love cracking stupid and even mean jokes, at the expenses of others, too. and also causing someone to get at each other's throats to slip away himself and witness the shitshow- like that time that he got wade and the bullies to come at casey and they were all sent to the principal's office instead of all the cliques against jimmy and each other, for example

i keep the stance that he would have. zero emotional intelligence. like he's very smart and, although all of his interpretations of everyone's thoughts were heavily fueled by paranoia, he's still good at understanding others' tought processes. i can still see him knowing the exact remarks to make to unsettle someone, or organizing elaborate pranks just a bit less radical than taking over the school. but he'd still have a hard time coming to terms with how he can hurt other people with words, esp when it's about small things and unintentional coincidences.

also i think a healthier gary would also be tendentially introvert?? i think he'd be a bit less interested in hanging out with or even understanding kids he's not especially close to, preferring instead reading or playing videogames (he feels like a horror games player to me??? it's a nice headcanon shall i say); once he's established the relationship with someone though he might as well text them in the middle of the night to tell them a thought he's had, an idea or really just anything he might want to share

(also like. what he first thought was making him better than everyone else, superhuman and above everyone else is, now that his mania is gone feels actually a bit... lonely? like he's found out that it makes him neither worse or better than others, so him feeling on a wholly different wavelength of thought than most other kids is a bit tiring sometimes. but he learns to kind of just. vibe along with the other people of the environment???)

more in general, i figure he'd be kind of the kid in the back of the classroom, occasionally cracking jokes or throwing paper planes but generally just . getting along with the others or pulling stupid pranks to have a laugh, then going up to his best friends and being like “hey how do you think it would look if we set a drop of hand sanitizer of fire? just a drop no massive fire i promise” (idk if you ever tried but that is funny to watch actually) and hanging out in the afternoon

141. Tombs, by Junji Ito

Owned: No, library Page count: 342 My summary: People turn to tombstones after their deaths. A girl's tongue transforms into a slug. A house with a single window contains a very strange inhabitant. And the sickly people of a small town all have the same blood type. My rating: 3.5/5 My commentary:

It's Halloween! That I hit a Junji Ito streak in Halloween is entirely a coincidence. Yeah, as I write this it's the 26th of September, I've either been on a roll with my reading, or reading much shorter fiction, or both this year. Doubtless you'll see me write up my Halloween read for this year (whatever I decide that is) in like January next year at this rate. Anyway. This is a Junji Ito short story collection, much like any other! Let's get into it. Or rather, the couple I wanna talk about.

My favourite of these stories was Slug Girl, the story of the girl whose tongue turns into a slug. I don't have much to say about this one, mostly that it was a well-paced, very effective story of a girl who is being taken over by that parasite in her mouth. The final image, of the slug escaping from her body and using her head as a shell, is creepy as all hell and I love it. Yay, body horror!

The opening and titular story, Tombs, would have been so much cooler if it was shorter. In this town, when people die, they turn into tombstones - if their body is interfered with, the tombstone doesn't grow correctly. Our main characters were involved in a hit and run on their way in, and instead of doing anything sensible keep the victim in the boot of their car and don't tell anyone or do anything about it. She starts turning into a tombstone, natch. Two big downsides here - one, the passivity of the main characters is so weird, I don't understand why they don't do something about this kid they accidentally murdered way earlier. And two, the story kept circling around the idea of 'the kid is missing!' and 'the tombs are creepy!', overexplaining and hammering in concepts rather than just getting on with it.

Finally, there's Floaters, the last story that particularly grabbed me. The secrets and darkest thoughts of a town start to manifest as little soot-sprite looking balls of fluff, which talk and reveal these secrets. People trade in them and collect them, and a mania starts around these little things. The story, however, is really about a group of kids struggling to make sense of the madness. It's about them, with the larger threat as backdrop - and it's about paranoia, and snideness, and how cruel people can be to others when dredging up their tiniest secrets. I can't help but see it as something of an allegory for the darker side of social media in that way.

Next, even more Junji Ito, as a planet bears down on Earth.
