As the leader or the team, Leo tended to be more focused in leading and less interested in other ‘lesser’ hobbies. So it’s a bit of a surprise when you find a romance novel underneath his pillow.

As the appointed leader, Leo tried to be serious and mature about his role;with no help from his brothers. Strong, calm, confident, stoic and mature was what he was supposedly was. Unfortunately, anyone that knew him for more than a few minutes would know that he is none of these things. At least to a certain extent.

Truth is, Leo…was a big fat nerd. No surprise there. He liked watching space heroes and often gushed about it to the nearest living creature, giving them new meaningless memories and a massive headache. He liked making stupid jokes and god awful puns. It was honestly sorta cute to you.

What was a surprise was the book that was underneath his pillow. You technically weren’t supposed to be going through his things, but he technically should’ve given back that black cat plushie you let him borrow for Halloween. Picking up the book, you glance over the title.

‘The Man and the Moon.’

From the looks of it, it was a romance novel.

…Leo? Leon? Leonardo? Fearless?

You never pegged him for the type to read romance books, hell, you never pegged him for the type to read things other than Japanese literature or comic books.

‘A classic romance novel tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, Max and Luna - both literally and figuratively. Max is a successful businessman who has dedicated his entire life to making his dreams come true, and Luna is a quiet and mysterious woman who seems to have a special connection with the moon. Despite coming from different backgrounds, Max and Luna quickly find themselves drawn to each other, and they must navigate the rocky terrain of love and discover the true meaning of happiness.’

You read as you skimmed over the summarization of the novel. It seemed like a good read! But, if you talked to Leo about your little discovery, you’d probably be in for another classic Leo Lecture about not snooping. Again, it was fair in your humble opinion.

And if you shared this information with his brothers, he would be ridiculed and mocked by his brothers, despite them having weirder hobbies. Aka, Mikey and his weird obsession with boiling pizza. Ah, brotherly love.

You made a mental note on the book and carefully stored it away underneath Leo’s soft pillow.

He doesn’t need to know.

Leo seemed to be busy more often than usual, with the lame excuse of being occupied with meditation and training in his room.

Which was a bummer since tonight was a movie night with everyone. Raph, Mikey, Donnie, April and even Casey were here!

You huffed and sat on the floor in front of Mikey who was sitting on the couch.

“So, what shitty slasher flick are we watching tonight?”

Raph grinned menacingly while holding a dvd and standing in front of the television.

“It’s not a slasher film, god knows Mikey would have nightmares again. Not that I’m against the idea of Mikey suffering, but I don’t want to have to let him sleep in my bed again.”

Mikey cheered from the back,

“I knew you cared about me! See, Casey? Raph likes me more than you.”

Casey frowned and groaned.

“C'mon! Do we really have to watch a baby version of scary movies?! What happened to entertainment and morality?”

“I’m surprised you know the word, ‘morality’”, teased April.

“Nah, I think he’s just throwing out random words and hoping that one of them will make sense. Remember when he said that we should ‘photosynthesis’ and ‘equilibrium’ with the enemy?”, you add mockingly, “You almost made Donnie pop a blood vessel.”

Speaking of Donnie, he rushed right through his lab door carrying multiple blueprints and plans for whatever new project he was working on.

“Hey four eyes! Gonna join us for crappy baby's first horror flick?”

“Why do you call me four eyes, Casey? I’ve never even worn glasses before, so why would you nickname me something that doesn't make any sense?”

“Easy.”, started Casey, “Glasses make you a nerd. YOU are a nerd without glasses, therefore you need glasses since you’re a nerd.”

“Casey connecting the dots? Hell must’ve flown over and pigs must’ve learnt to fly.”, you snickered.

After a whole debate between Donnie and Casey, the pizza was brought by Mikey and the rest of the snacks were laid on the floor by April and Raph. Monthly movie nights were truly a miracle.

But, there’s something missing.

“Where’s Leo?”, Mikey questioned while taking a disgustingly large bite of his pizza.

“Fearless? Eh, he’s probably in the dojo training like always.”

“Probably, but usually everyone joins for these types of things! Do you think he’s training or doing something else?”

“If you care so much why don’t you ask him for yourself, [Name]?”, Raph says, really not caring about anything else other than the movie that he picked.

You grumble and reluctantly head over to Leo’s room, hoping that he wasn’t doing teenage boy activities. Ugh.

You considered knocking on his door, but then you remembered the plushie he never returned and slammed the door open.

Leo scrambled off the bed and onto the ground, holding a familiar book before throwing it off into the distance, praying you didn’t see. He chuckled nervously while leaning suspiciously on his bed.

“Oh! Hey, [Name]…! Uh…do you need something?”

He seemed so anxious and nervous…it was actually kinda cute! It’s like you have two little creatures on your shoulder, each one trying to give you a way to navigate this whole situation.

‘Leave him alone and give him space! That’s the nice thing to do.’, says the one on your right shoulder.

‘Get the book and make fun of him!!!’, giggles the one on your left shoulder.

…it’s obvious who won.

“What were you reading, Leo?” You ask with a teasing grin, watching him squirm under your gaze.

“Oh…uh me? Uhm…comic books! Yeah comic books! I was reading a really weird part so that’s why I was surprised when you came in and…”

Whatever other words that were being soren from him was ignored, you only think about how oddly adorable it was.

You glance at where the book was hastily hidden and chuckled.

“What comic was it?”

Before Leo could make another desperate and obvious lie, you quickly snatched up the book from where he tossed it and read the title. It was the same one as before.

“The Man and the Moon?”, you teased.

“That isn’t mine! April just asked me to hold on to it for her!”, he blushed as he tried to regain his confidence and composure.

“Cmon, Leo, we both know you can’t lie to save your shell.”

He paused and looked away, blushing furiously and fidgeting with his fingers. You sighed and took his hand.

“Hey.”, you look into his eyes. “I pinky swear that I won’t tell your brothers. You know how they are.”, you think back to the time Raph was found playing a dating simulator, and how the bickering lasted for weeks.

“Plus,”, you continued, “it’s not the worst thing you've ever done.”

“…You don’t think it’s weird?”, he asked cautiously.

“Why would it be weird? Like, people read romance all the time.”

“But, y’know…I’m a guy…and a mutant turtle…and well…”

You shrugged and climbed onto his bed, leaning against his plastron once you had sat down next to him.

“Romance is nice, I guess. It’s just another genre in a variety of genres.”, you felt and heard his heart thump faster as he gulped nervously.

“So…”, You started, “Are you gonna go to movie night or what?”

Leo’s eyes widened as he seemed to have a revelation.

“The movie! Crap, I forgot about that!”

TMNT: Halloween 2023

Happy Halloween, folks! It's been a hot minute, but I pulled through with some new Turtles art. I very much miss drawing these guys, but what better way to get back into with my take on their Halloween costumes! As for the humans, this was actually the first of the two Halloween drawings I worked on, because I've gotten more used to drawing human(oid) characters. I'm actually quite pleased with this one, honestly. I wanted to do something different for the Turtles and April; a breakaway from their costumes seen in Trick-or-Treat Tussle, which was a flash game on Nick. So here are my offerings!

Leo is dressed as a masked swordsman, heavily inspired by another favorite blue sword-wielding boy, Shin-Ah from Yona of the Dawn. It took some brainstorming to figure out a costume, but I'm very content with my choice for him. Donnie is a scientist, which feels like a no-brainer, and the overall inspiration comes from this old TMNT 2003 fancomic with Don in this mad scientist get-up. This costume is a callback to an older drawing I did back in 2020, so hey Kim of that year, I did a group drawing of the Turtles in costume! For Raph, I'm just calling it a "bodybuilder", because... I think that was the vision Doug from 50 First Dates had of himself. I just thought it would be super funny after remembering this Sean Astin movie character to have Raph's costume essentially be this. Lastly, Mikey is dressed up as Ice Cream Kitty, and yes, he did paint his face, torso, and arms to look like this sweet kitten. I also had him in an orange bowl, because it's Halloween.

So, for April, I felt like news reporter was appropriate, but with a spooky twist. After taking it to a poll, the creature type for April was a Frankenstein-type, and I even drew a bit of inspiration of how I did my Frankie Stein cosplay. I got inspired by a judge wearing a creepy news reporter costume on Halloween Baking Championship, which is one of my favorite shows to watch during Spooky Season. For Casey, I just thought him dressed as a classic masked serial killer would be his thing. Most of the stuff he'd already have lying around, and all that blood is actually red paint! The bits of hot pink is a bit of a nudge to Danganronpa. Karai is a vampire lady, and I used a couple of Vampire dress up games to get an idea of what her costume should look like. I also remember someone mentioning that Karai with her snake fangs looked like a vampire, and I can very much see that. Lastly, Shinigami is dressed as Jinx from Teen Titans. Like with Leo, this one was a thinker, but then I remembered this character and thought it was perfect. Raven is also another good fit, but Jinx makes more sense because of the goth witch vibes she already has. And honestly, I like Shini with a bit of pink.

Lmao indeed. It's part of my Brand at this point. Love to use sex and kink as tools to dissect characters. Altered states my beloved.

Ummm, back in middle school I wrote some crossovers, but none recently.

The Black Sails post canon Fix It Fic that started it all. It's just very complex, which is why it was abandoned in the first place. And there are some other factors that just make it untouchable.

Overarching structure/plot beats, poetic language, characterization, conveying emotion, searing hot smut and kink.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Editing full stop. Historical/period accuracy type details. I have to do buckets of research for that kind of stuff. External pressures on the characters. I'm very very good at the zoomed in relationship view, but expanding/getting outside of their heads is not something I've done a lot.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? 

It's fine, as long as there's a story reason for it to be there.

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

InuYasha when I was about twelve years old. Those stories have since fallen into the void.

Break Up AU of course :)))) My baby, my masterpiece, my heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears. I was definitely possessed the year it took to write it.

Bulkhead would defo help make decorations for the base- paper bats on the strings, ghosts attached to the ceiling n stuff. He tried to carve a pumpkin too but he crushed it on accident :(

Prowl would defo go to a harvest festival if there was one. Bee and Sari tag along cuz there was supposedly a contest for the biggest vegetable/fruit. They were not wrong. Here you have a (different user's) post from that trip. Also Prowl would try to make a pumpkin pie for Sari from Bulk's squashed pumpkin, it turned out good by Sari's words. :D

Optimus is not really keen on the whole ordeal. The spooky theme and costumes- even the silly ones- make him uneasy (especially the spider decor). He doesn't want to ruin the fun so he just stays quiet, it's not a big deal.

Speaking of costumes- Bee would absolutely go trick-or-treating with Sari in his own costume. He loves to dress up! One time he made himself look like that black taxi from that one horror movie- while in his root mode he looked like a pitch black monster with red LEDs as eyes. Optimus was on patrol in that time and he thought it would be a great idea to give him a spook. So he made some ruckus near where OP was driving and jumpscared him with the scariest screech he could do. He regretted it shortly after because Optimus whipped out his axe and smacked him with the blunt side as an impulse reaction for being spooked+that looked like a decepticon/NOT friendly creature. Bee was send flying to the other side of the parking lot... Yeah, Optimus had to make a very awkward call to Ratchet cuz Bee was having severe ache in his tank and coughed up a little bit of enegon. Later Ratchet scolded both of them for being idiots, Bee had internal damage and couldn't leave medbay for 2 days and missed trick-or-treating. Optimus felt so bad! He apologized several times and even went and got him some home-made treats to make up for the missed treats on halloween. Bee took halloween costumes easier from then on- he dressed up as classic things like a mummy, witch or vampire. I like to think he made a costume of Blitzwing for fun at one point and just happened to bump into said 'con when he was out spooking young teens. Blitz still has a selfie of him holding the startled wannabe and him smiling widely. Also Bee really wants to know how the whole pumpkin spice thing tastes like cuz apparently it's good. Also candy- oh well, at least he got the joy of collecting it for Sari.

Ratchet, per usual, doesn't care. Although if he was feeling funny he would get fluorescent pink paint and splatter it in his workshop or himself just to mess with the others. He's the kind of guy that would play morbid jokes like that if given a chance- he is a medic after all.

Sari is having the best halloween with them. She comes up with those cool games for them to play and watches scary movies with them, She would absolutely be the type to pretend-gag when seeing christmas decor in the middle of October, Bee does that too- it's way too early, damn it! (i hate it too)

Vampire Egg just straight up becomes obsessed with the necks of big buff men and he cant handle himself and shuxbwisuwhebe 🫣🥴🥴🥴

Agjhhsbkgshg oh my god yes it'd definitely be a taste in men that Vampire AU Eggman would have in common with main universe modern Eggman as the other versions typically do too! It would be cute for him to discover it through his fascination with people that visit in general as a vampire that's so far away from the outside world in his spooky hideaways. He could not even know such men exist like that for a while until the first one ever dares to enter one of the spooky places he resides in.

He'd especially love it if their reason for entering one of them was to impress others by not being scared because they're big and/or strong and cocky, he'd admire the confidence and bravery they have due to it to venture in there without fear. He'd be fascinated with them, not just for being people of the outside world, but also because he's never seen anything like it before, toned bodies and muscles would immediately catch his interest and he'll need to get a closer look. Just out of curiosity, of course.

He starts off by using his brief invisibility ability and his bat form to follow them around, take peeks at them from the shadows, and creep a little closer for a few seconds, cheekily hiding and giggling when he quickly disappears and hides before they can see him too soon when he's not done admiring- I mean checking out- I mean stalking his prey. But he can only deny for so long how this feels different and more intense and special than any other times and visitors as he gets some funny fuzzy feelings.

He realizes his interest is deeper than with the average person and gives him excitement and other feelings he's still new to but has recognized he also feels for modern Eggman, so it definitely means something more here too. He's totally smitten and wants to find a way to talk to them without scaring them off as a vampire with sharp fangs and is often covered in blood from messy feedings. His first attempts include cute and silly stumbling around them as he's inexperienced but he tries his best!

He drools at the sight of them, wonders how they taste, and wants to suck them in more ways than one lol when he's attracted to them but it also makes the urge to drink their blood extra intense. He tries to lure them in with flirtatiousness which he doesn't usually do with prey - giving a similarity to Casino AU Egg but to a far milder degree. His first tries are more funny and adorable than sexy but it can work just the same, if he doesn't scare them away just by being a real vampire, albeit a very silly one.

He'd also love if they were bigger than him because he's used to mostly encountering smaller creatures and ghosts in spooky places he hangs out in and visitors often tend to be smaller too because he's so big. He didn't think they could be bigger, he'd be fascinated and excited to get to look up at someone. The strength and stamina they might have compared to the average visitor would make them more challenging and thrilling to chase and catch as prey too, if he's trying his classic pursuit method.

He'd also be delighted if they're big and/or strong enough for him jump onto them even in his regular form without them tumbling down, wrap his arms and legs around and cling to them there while he sucks their blood. He'd just love to climb a big boy and nuzzle into their big strong inviting neck in regular or bat form before taking a bite. He'd also enjoy landing on them while he's in his bat form too, making them and their muscles look even bigger to him and he wants to bury his face in their abs.

He wants to be held in their arms against their strong body. He wants them to cuddle and provide warmth he doesn't usually get as a vampire of low body heat in cold spooky places. He wants to see them flex and feel up their big muscles with admiration. He wants to wrap his arms around them from the front or behind tightly in a hug while he sucks their blood, enjoying the pleasure of both the taste and intimacy of being pressed up against them and he's extra satisfied once he's had his fill.

They make him so happy that he's extra giggly and gleeful than usual and can't stop beaming while around them, he wants to keep them close to feel their warmth and admire their beauty. He wishes he could keep drinking from them and they have to remind him to wait until he can again so he doesn't drink them dry! But he can't help but get playfully nippy before then in both regular and bat form because it's so tempting, so they can expect a lot of bite marks both smaller and bigger XD

He adores them for being so big, strong, warm, and handsome. As soon as he gets lucky enough to meet his first, he thinks about them a lot and always hopes more of them will come along and visit any spooky place he's currently staying at. He feels he's struck gold whenever they wander in and they're one of the types of men that he always hopes can be more than just prey that he feeds on and then lets go. It's a special case where he wants their delicious necks and the rest of them!

You could say that he has a liiittle bit of an obsession and weakness for them and can hardly control it around them and makes it so obvious hehe. 🥴 I love the idea of it being something all the versions I involve in the Eggman x Eggman polygamy have in common. It's cute for them all to be super passionate about it, whether they're more open or secretive about it but smitten and lovestruck by them all the same. Another thing to bond over, as well as their love for fellow fat guys! 💜💕

Terror Time 2022: Days 26 thru 29

Home stretch! Here we go:

Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948): One of the original Horror Comedies. I’m not sure if this is a Halloween staple for many people these days, due to it’s age. Not sure how much appeal this has for people who aren’t already fans of these incarnations of the three main movie monsters. A pseudo-parody film like this being the swan song of them should be embarrassing and sad. But while the humor is relatively solid for it’s day due Lou Costello’s over-top fearful reactions, it does this while not cheapening the monster by following the golden rule for all horror comedies after this; You can make it as funny as you like, but the horror itself is taken as a serious threat. 

That being said, the portrayals weren’t too perfect, if I’m being nitpicky. Larry Talbot’s inner turmoil is constantly jabbed, which even if you don’t believe he’s a werewolf, given how he carries himself in each scene, would you feel comfortable making jabs at his expense like Wilbur does? (Kinda worse in hindsight given the actor’s history of drinking)

Outside of the climatic chase, the Creature doesn’t do much other then rest and walk around at Dracula’s will. I know it’s the more marketable name, but it’s clear that Dracula is the mastermind and the more intelligent and powerful adversary. I’m not sure why he even chases them at the end, except that’s what he does at the end of every movie. Does electricity overload his brain and make him hostile to all around him? I’ll admit, the only Universal Frankenstein movies I’ve seen are the first three and this one, so I might be missing something. 

Another minor thing: the running gag that multiple women pursue Wilbur over Chick (though for ulterior purposes), is treated as weird by Chick...is that a bit fatphobic?

At this point in history, none of this is a deal breaker. It’s still a classic for the reasons I mentioned at the beginning. And whether comedic or not, scary or not, I’ll be happy having more and more films or specials with all the classic monsters in it. There’s always something magical about having them all there, as long as there is respect.

The Vigil (2019): A poltergeist story, though refreshingly, one based in Jewish horror rather then a Christian one. I don’t know how rather the Mazzik seen in this film is faithful to the lore, though given how it’s depicted in the film is menacingly enough. (You don’t see it’s face, it speaks through people the main character knows, etc.). 

In a way, I can see this as a compelling double feature with His House (2020), a film about a different culture but I feel tackles some of the same themes (generational trauma, the double-edged sword of assimilation, bigotry, ghosts symbolizing past sins, etc.).

And the last shot; I think it’s a sequel hook, more ambiguous then the jump scare variety I’ve seen, and the type I always want to see more of. I don’t know why the quiet ending is more unsettling for a horror film, but I like seeing a return of it.

Barbarian (2022): *SPOILERS*

The must-see horror movie of the year, or at least the past few months. I feel, though while it looks like a lot of horrors made over the past decade, reminded me in a few ways of the classics, both in old monster movies and Psycho, of all things. (might have to do with the bait-and-switch first act and the sudden death of the biggest name actor). 

We never get an answer to the Airbnb mix-up, though given our current climate, it might have been due to mundane incompetency after all. We DO get a lot of information on how all this was set up due to flash backs and suggestion (I appreciate that the fates of Frank’s victims were all kept offscreen, however horrific the implications were.). Given how it jumps back in forth like that, you could almost argue it’s the Pulp Fiction of horror movies.

AJ is a case of a more realistic and normal human villain/rapist, which in turn makes him and his thought process through all of this more scary and tragic (though not tragic enough to say he didn’t deserve what was coming to him). He’s just so ignorant and entitled to all he’s done, and what condemns him at the end isn’t that he’s done these things, but that he’ll continue to do them, even to a woman who’s done nothing but try and save him. After all, redemption and forgiveness are a nonstarter if he rather talk about it then do it.

I just find the thematic contrast between him and the Mother so fascinating. He’s constantly asking for sympathy despite ultimately unworthy due to rather taking short cuts rather then actually earn it. She, on the other hand, while looking and asking like a literal monster, it’s clear in her final moments how much sympathy we had for her after all. I mean, she’s the result of decades worth of inbreeding caused by a serial killer, not allowed to learn anything other then to be a mother. She’s practically had all kinds of misogyny thrown on her and cranked to 100. But, like with Frankenstein, because she violently lashes out, society gives her none, if it even acknowledges her existence. And like that and all other classic movie monsters, her end is not one of triumph but tragedy, having saved the woman from our male lead, arguably twice. I’ve seen horror movies flipped this script before, but with this, I feel we’re at the point where it can be done and we know why, without anyone hanging a lampshade.  All of that said and made believable with the looks instead of speeches, more then AJ’s jabbering ever could.

But that’s always been Horror’s real strength: It’s to the the point and knows when to put it’s money where it’s mouth is.

Zodiac (2007): I want to tread lightly here, given this was based on real events involving real people who died and who’s lives were ruined. But hey, better this then the new Dahmer show. At least with this, the actual person who’s killed actual people isn’t portrayed as worthy of any humanization or sympathy I don’t think this type of man should have. 

In fact, in here, the Zodiac might as well not be a character at all. He’s more of a wraith or a force of nature. Which would run the danger of making him seem “cooler” if it weren’t for the fact that it’s clear, if the film is completely accurate, it’s more lack of cohesion between all of the police departments then him actually being smarter then any of them. 

That’s sorta what makes Robert Graysmith’s journey in the last act of the film more noble, even if it’s clear he’s a very flawed human being; distracted and naïve to the point of putting himself in danger. He’s trying to make sure all the facts are together in one place finally. Though given the more we’re still learning about the Zodiac case, his final conclusion might not be the correct one. 

I ultimately see this movie as a story about three horrors one after another; first a homicidal madman (One who’s murder scenes actually stop relatively early in the movie), second is outdated system structures, and final is self-destructive obsession. In the end, the most any of us can do is find an answer that’s not complete, but one you can live with. Even Graysmith admits he can’t “catch” the Zodiac, but he wants to just look him in the face. Which, even if it turns out he didn’t, he believed it at the time, so it was a natural place for the story to end, at least before the bookend with Michael Mageau.

BTW: I did not plan to watch the movie about the real life serial killer that inspired Matt Reeves and Paul Dano’s version of the Riddler in the same year as that movie, but here we are. And I liked to believe that they were both equally pathetic human beings.

I got one last post and only three movies. If I don’t have it done before the end of tomorrow, I hope to finish my thoughts before the end of the week.

My Mini Christmas Horror Watch Challenge (2023)

Labeling this as a challenge is a reach because me watching Christmas horror movies recently was just something that happened organically. And me making this post is really just because this is that awkward time in between before I start my watch challenge for the year 2024 & I had watches where I needed to vent somewhere about them. Naturally, I picked here to do it. Not going to be as thorough as I normally with my movie info or any kinda ranking cuz this is just an impulsive idea I had.

The Sacrifice Game (2023): Mostly watched this because I saw Olivia Scott Welch was in the cast & playing one of the killers, which seemed like a fun change for her. It also included Mena Massoud (from the live-action Aladdin), playing a baddie as well. So, that was interesting. I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped to necessarily but it did have some twists and I appreciated it for what it was. It had its moments and the cast was good.

Summary: Samantha and Clara are stuck alone at their boarding school for the holidays, but things take a deadly turn when a murderous gang arrives on their doorstep - just in time for Christmas.

2. A Creature Was Stirring (2023): This mostly got me because I thought that title was too perfect to pass up. lol And the premise sounded cool. Had no idea I was gonna know every single person in the cast beforehand - Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Annalise Basso (Oculus), Scout Taylor-Compton (Sleepover for me lol, Halloween reboot & other horror stuff for others) & Connor Paolo (Gossip Girl/Revenge), so that ended up being a happy coincidence. I think that's what helped pull me in enough to keep watching it the whole way through, even when it eventually began going off the rails. Especially towards the ends cuz goodness, the plotholes. Without fully spoiling it, the ending is one of those where you're either game for it or not, and I was in the 'not really' category. Mostly because it made everything that came before it feel pointless. Up until that point though, I was enjoying it enough. Chrissy Metz did a great job though. But yeah, that rather low rating does feel justified tbh.

Summary: A nurse taking care of her daughter's mysterious affliction struggles to hide her secrets when uninvited strangers take shelter in her house during a lethal blizzard.

3. It's a Wonderful Knife (2023): Another one I wanted to like more than I did but I do think it was fun enough. And man, they went there with the title. lol Familiar faces in there like Joel McHale and Justin Long. I think it took me a bit to be sold on the lead girl Jane Widdop for a bit but I warmed up to her by the end. It's not an instant new classic for me but it's certainly watchable imo.

Summary: After saving her town from a psychotic killer, Winnie Carruthers' life is less than wonderful. When she wishes she'd never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe where without her, things could be much, much worse.

4. Krampus (2015): I actually really enjoyed this one if I'm being honest. A very game cast with familiar faces in the parents including Adam Scott & scream queen Toni Collette. It's a horror comedy, which is my genre, that is both fun and deliciously evil in its execution. And man, that ending had me gasping. Pretty brilliant imo.

Summary: A boy who has a bad Christmas accidentally summons a festive demon to his family home.

5. Silent Night (2021): Interesting that it's labeled as just a comedy/drama on IMDB when it's clearly a horror (or at least thriller) as well, but hey, whatever you gotta do to sell your movie I guess. Or mislead people, to be honest. But then I get it, the twist is meant to be this thing that gradually gets told to the audience so they want people to go in blind I think. lol Anyway, mostly just watched this because Matthew & Keira but there's other familiar faces too. It was entertaining enough with tone shifts throughout and an ending that's rather bleak to be honest but there's also a dash of hope. This was an interesting group of characters to be stuck together. The movie might be a lot for some people though because it can be but I didn't think it was that bad actually. But then I get where it's not for everyone either with its story choices. Regardless, it makes you think about stuff if anything.

Summary: Nell, Simon, and their 3 sons are ready to welcome friends and family for what promises to be a perfect Christmas gathering. Perfect except for one thing: everyone is going to die.

6. Thanksgiving (2023): Okay, so it's not a Christmas movie but I did watch it recently and well, like I said, this is that weird limbo time before 2024 so wasn't gonna count it towards that either. So, basically, it had it had to be grouped here because I had thoughts to share!! lol I actually went into this one with an open mind. That opening is so memorable and as a retail worker who had to work Black Friday, I felt that. lmao Eli Roth is very much a hit or miss for me usually. This is probably one of his most restraint entries I can think of, in terms of this one being a traditional slasher. As always he made sure those kills were creative, I'll give him that. I thought the cast was good. But that ending... Either he thinks his audience is really stupid or Eli doesn't care cuz ummm, that person being the killer doesn't make sense. I stand by this! lol But also, it was a little predictable too. I wasn't really all in with the mystery aspect of it but I didn't hate it either. It was okay. I guess I'll watch the sequel, we'll see.

Summary: After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts - the birthplace of the infamous holiday.

And well, I tried to watch both Yule Log (2023) & Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) but ended up turning them off at some point. I didn't make it very far with Yule Log because it's not what I thought it was going to be at all. The opening felt obnoxious and then it just seemed weird/cheap as it started going. Maybe I missed the point of it but it definitely didn't seem like for me. And well, I knew what I was getting with Silent Night, Deadly Night so it shouldn't have surprised me and yet, I still couldn't finish. It's true 80's horror with the gore and exploitative nature to it all while capitalizing on the Slasher Santa trope. I actually think it had potential to be better than it was but I wasn't really down with the execution.

And well, I don't see me doing this kinda thing next year cuz this is meant to be a one-off deal but we'll see.

31 Days of Horror - Day 4 - Dog Soldiers

Today’s movie was watched with someone! My boyfriend and I have a poster with 100 horror movies that we watch weekly! We have them picked at random, with a few exceptions, and we will occasionally watch sequels, or remakes (as we did with Psycho, and Psycho 98, which feels important to share). 

Regardless of the ins and outs, dog soldiers was an interesting film for sure, one out of my interest zone in multiple ways. Maybe that’s not fair - despite not at all enjoying war, nor media related to it, I do love Pan’s Labyrinth. And although this was one of very few werewolf movies I have seen, I don’t mind them! Twilight has been important to me growing up, and one year I remember going as a werewolf for Halloween, only to watch Twilight the next year and find myself disgusted with my actions.

I guess part of the point I am trying to make is that, unlike the rest of the movies I have watched, I would never have chosen Dog Soldiers, so in a sense I’m glad I got to watch it here. Although before getting into it, I doubt this will be my best discussion - Dog Soldiers is a film I like, although there was seldom anything that I found bad nor good, I guess this film just didn’t feel like it was for me, and that is okay. 

I will start with the best bit! The wolves :) A very enjoyable design for these werewolves, I enjoy how they incorporate the wolf and human elements to them, they truly feel like hybrids, yet their nature is unknown - how much human is left? Their decision to mask these creatures in mystery led to my enjoyment of the film, as I was still fearful as to what would happen as well as what was going on with the wolves. However I didn’t always love the way the characters never entirely knew what they were doing in regards to the werewolves - lines mentioning silver killing them and full moons constantly felt wonky, I couldn’t tell if they were jokes or not. Maybe that’s a me problem.

I also liked the switch of settings around halfway through, it reminded me a lot of Night of the Living Dead, I can’t tell if it was an inspiration, but the house setting certainly felt like it was. Home invasion is the genre I find the scariest, and this is definitely a take on home invasion, although with supernatural elements, which I enjoy even if I do find these types less scary. 

My biggest problem was these characters - I just didn’t care for them. I don’t know, I guess I didn’t want them to die, but when they did, I didn’t care much, and as the film reached its conclusion, only a final hero standing, I found myself for the film to mirror Night of the Living Dead even more, yet we don’t receive a bleak ending, at least not on the surface. Everyone but our protagonist is dead, which poses the question of what a happy ending is? Of course, we should be blindly happy that someone survived the night, but ultimately, this is not something to celebrate. Not one bit. 

I did enjoy this film, even if a lot of my discussions may not feel too positive, which I apologise for. The film was one I enjoyed watching, at least past the half an hour mark, but have little to say about it! One thing I did enjoy was the gore, mostly at the point where we are first properly introduced to the titular dog soldiers. It is gnarly and gross, a real fun time! I guess this is the closest the first act of the film feels to horror, in my eyes. In fact, before this point I was curious how it would fit into the genre at all, and while that changed by the end, I did think about whether the inclusion of classical monsters such as werewolves or vampires constitutes a horror movie. My answer was no, but in most cases you could argue they are horror adjacent, which I would do for Twilight. 

A lot of mentions of Twilight in this one, huh? 

Overall, I enjoyed this film, but it didn’t leave me with too much afterwards - while watching I described this movies feeling to a “Sunday afternoon film”, one that as a child, I did not care much about, but watch vaguely in the background because it’s on, and ultimately, find some things in it I like. 

Later that evening I sat and played some games with a group of my friends who have moved away to uni recently, it was so fun that even though the games we were playing wouldn’t usually be something I would want to play alone, I had a great time because of the company. Honestly, this is how I feel about Dog Soldiers, sure the film itself didn’t resonate with me, and isn’t one I want to watch again anytime soon, but it’s one I enjoyed the experience of watching because I was with my snoozing boyfriend, he decided to have a nap part way through,  watching quietly as to not disturb him. It was nice, a moment of peace. The experience means far more to me than the art itself.

THE HALLOWEEN MASTER PLAYLIST

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and listening to some spooky music and watching horror films is mandatory if you’re really going to get into the spirit of the thing. (I eat candy, and dress like a hobo year-round, so that part of it was a given.) So I thought I’d post a master playlist of seasonal music a few weeks early in case any of you wanted to put something together for your own enjoyment, or maybe a Halloween party you might be planning.

Thinking outside the box (or coffin, if you prefer) I managed to do it without using Monster Mash or The Purple People Eater. Elves Dressing Up for Halloween

Gondolin

Halloween Request:  Hello! For a Halloween request, could I ask for headcanons of what the elves of Gondolin would dress up as for a costume? Would any be extremely hesitant? Turgon

Turgon honestly isn’t one for dressing up at all on Halloween and will not be partial to even couples costuming. If anything he would much rather host a party and keep his usual attire than have to dress up as anything. Even if it is customary. 

At most you may get a masquerade mask on him and that is as far as it will go. So every year, being quite the creature of habit, he prefers to go as a King than let his hair down a little and relax. Though Turgon will support you in almost whatever costume you decide to go in AS LONG AS it is appropriate. 

Nothing inappropriate or overly sexual as Turgon is a little bit of a prude. Though he won’t fight you too hard and be considerably flustered all night over it and bite his tongue. He’ll eventually grow used to whatever costume he may not find appropriate but it certainly takes some time for him to get used to it. 

Glorfindel

Glorfindel loves dressing up, being the big ray of sunshine that he is, and has a lot of fun dressing up! He is really creative and thinks outside the box on the costume ideas that he comes up with. 

And when you ask him to dress up in couples costuming he immediately jumps at the chance to be able to do so. Glorfindel also loves to be able to help create these said out of the box costumes too. For example you have a ton of cardboard boxes at your disposal, he will absolutely spend the time to make a costume out of it. Robot? Fish tank? Washing Machine? He’ll put it together.

Glorfindel also really loves puny costume ideas too. Anything that can be a big play on words he is bound to figure out an idea for you both to wear. No matter how ridiculously cheesy that idea might be, Glorfindel will absolutely run with it. He has a blast coming up with the ideas. 

You are absolutely welcome to assist in coming up with something, Glorfindel loves to hear any of your ideas. And if you are more partial to an idea that you have, he is happy to relent to you and get your costumes put together with whatever theme you prefer. Either way, Glorfindel is just really happy to spend time with you like this!

Ecthelion

Ecthelion is pretty rigid and formal and strict, so when it comes to dressing up for Halloween, he isn’t all too elaborate in dressing up. If anything he may add an accessory or two to a really nice outfit, but it is never anything over the top. 

So when you suggest couples costuming, Ecthelion is a little hesitant to join you in any of the ideas that you might have. They might need to start off relatively conservative and more classic like Period specific costuming or Historical Figures or something Masquerade style. 

He feels a little odd all dressed up, especially since it is not the one or two accessories that might dress up his costume. But Ecthelion trusts you deeply to not put him in something ridiculous or make him look ridiculous and tries to enjoy the fun of the night all dressed up. 

I do not recommend really letting him choose in the beginning of your costume couple planning because he will not venture even into the more conservative spaces. Choosing to keep it more to what he is already comfortable with. 

Rog

Rog loves to dress up and though he does, his costumes can be pretty simple. Happy to dress up and throw together whatever he might have at home. Even if it means wearing work attire for Halloween. A blacksmith is technically a costume. 

So when you suggest couples costuming, Rog is really happy to let you take the reins and lead the way on what to dress up as! He’s a lot of fun and can easily get super into character with it. Such as if you want to dress him up like he walked right out of Woodstock 1960 and give him a few verbal cues to use, he will shamelessly use them. 

Rog’s a big ball of fun and the life of the party, and after the first time you two couples costume expect to couples costume from then on out. Cops and Robbers, Period Costuming, Heavenly Themed, Character Specific, whatever it may be he is down for it (unless it is offensive). The ellon will absolutely costume with you in those inflatable costumes and have a ball with it. Inflatable sumo or dinosaur is absolutely up for grabs. 

Just know you will probably have to have it custom made and fitted for him properly. And Rog will absolutely try to wrestle or horseplay with someone in the said inflatable costumes. Anticipate that he may go home in it with it deflated because he will eventually pop it.

Penlod

Penlod in his true fashion is dressing up as a Historical Figure. You’ve told him how costumes work and that he can be anything he wants to be, and the ellon is going to choose the most interesting Historical Figure he can. 

He will absolutely be as detailed accurate as he can be, from the costume and to the accessories. Penlod puts a lot of attention into his costume and the little pieces that bring it all together. 

Penlod will absolutely do couples costumes together, but he will not budge on it not being a historical figure. He WILL consider being a regular civilian in x time period if thats what you wish! Ancient Greece? 1400′s Renaissance? French Rocco? 1800′s? 1920′s? 50′s? You name it and he will dress up as it. He’s a sucker for histories and will happily spend time compiling a costume that is just as detailed as his!

You both will absolutely look like you’ve walked right out of the era you two dressed up as. With Penlod indulging facts about the era to anyone who will listen to him. 

Egalmoth

Egalmoth loves being able to dress up really exquisitely and jumps at any opportunity to be able to do so. His costumes are so incredibly elaborate and gem and fine stitch filled they’re absolutely heavenly to look upon. 

Sometimes he really doesn’t even pick a theme of what he wants to dress up as when it comes to Halloween. Egalmoth just wants to dress up nicely, he’s a little bit of the “he’s got the spirit but is confused” saying. Though he is absolutely  aware that he is supposed to pick a theme. He just chooses to not always do so.

He will absolutely couples costume with you, but when he does, Egalmoth absolutely wants to pick the theme. He’s bold so he is unafraid to pick unearthly themes like dressing up as the Vala of such regal nature, or Ancient Gods in rich costume style or Angels or Monarchy. Anything that allows him to be able to put you both in an incredibly unearthly and regal status he is here for. 

Anticipate that Egalmoth, like Penlod, has an extreme eye for detail. So no expense will be spared and your simple costume will quite quickly become a luxurious and intricate affair. 

Galdor

Galdor is really go with the flow and has a knack for choosing a good costume with his more go with the flow nature. Though he won’t really dress up unless he finds it necessary to do so for like a party. If he’s solo on Halloween he’s more likely to just stay cozy. But when it comes to couples costuming, he is all for it!

Galdor’s only preference is that he prefers the nature themes, but he won’t strictly adhere to them and will explore other costume themes with you. The only line he will draw is if he finds any of the themes to be vulgar or offensive in anyway.

Whether you two are Witches and Wizards together or the Angel and Devil, Galdor is going to be happy to meet your expectations. He’s got a pretty good sense of humor though and will be happy to dress up in awkward costumes or whatever other humorous costuming you might come up with.

Maeglin

Maeglin is completely and totally hesitant at the idea of dressing up as anything. The idea of just dressing up as whatever, just seems like an open line for someone to possibly criticize what he has chosen and that is an immediate dislike for Maeglin. 

As for couples costuming its really really REALLY going to take some convincing to get him to participate. If anything, the first few Halloweens he is probably not going to be receptive to any of it at all. Totally opting to just tagging along while you dress up. 

Though he gives in to the peer pressure of everyone asking him where is his costume or hearing how it would be cute if you two dressed up together. Maeglin absolutely lets you choose what you want to dress up as, but I warn that you might want to start out far more conservative and safe options like him being a Knight and you being a Princess/Prince or perhaps you’re both Pirates or maybe you dress up like Ancient Greeks/Romans. 

Something that isn’t going to be too over the top, but just enough out of his comfort zone people will recognize that you dressed up.

TMNT 2012 characters in Halloween costumes

Happy Halloween everyone! To celebrate, I decided to share my vision of what costumes some of the TMNT 2012 characters would wear for Halloween. This would also be set after Trick or Treat Tussle, the Halloween themed video game that had Leo as Captain Ryan, Donnie as what I believe is a troubadour (Mickey Mouse Three Musketeers reference anyone), Mikey as SpongeBob, April as a ninja turtle, and Raph as the famous fairy princess.

So, this is what I got!

Leonardo as a masked warrior/swordsman (inspired by our lovely blue dragon warrior here)

This was one costume idea I struggled with the most, but I ultimately decided on this remembering Shin-Ah from Yona of the Dawn. I just think it'd be cool to see Leo dress up in something related to his combat skills while still looking like a badass/dork. Complete with a bathrobe, some of his usual gear, and a paper mache mask, Leo is ready for Halloween.

Donatello as a scientist

This was one of the first ideas I had for Donnie, and I feel as though it's perfect. The overall inspiration is from Donnie's design in tigerfog's 2003 fan comic, NMT Gaiden. I just really liked the eyepiece Don wore, complete with a lab coat. Add in some protect gloves and liquid filled bombs (filled with dyed water and soda!) to the equation, and you get Donnie's costume.

Raphael as a body builder (inspired by Doug from 50 First Dates)

What's funnier than Raph deciding to dress as a strongman? Raph dressing up like Sean Astin from 50 First Dates. The outfit itself is RIDICULOUS, but I do see Raph wearing that mesh shirt. 🤣 Add shorts, gloves, the red baseball cap, and yes, even sunglasses, and you get Raph as Doug Whitmore. Oh, and make sure he gets some Reese's in his treat or treat bag.

Michaelangelo as Ice Cream Kitty

For quite a while, I've been stuck on what costume Mikey would wear. Like... there are SO MANY GOOD IDEAS. I turned to Instagram and asked peeps for suggestions. I chose his favorite ice cream cat, because he'd go all out with face/body paint, the classic cat ears, and even make a bowl to wear. I just think that's overall, a very Mikey costume that isn't a character from another existing franchise.

April as a simulacrum news reporter

The overall inspiration comes from BOTH a judge's costume I saw in Halloween Baking Championship (a ghostly news reporter) and that April in the 1987 series is a news reporter! I didn't want to go with the jumpsuit, so April would be wearing something a bit dressier like what female news reporters typically wear. I then thought she'd be a different creature as opposed to being a human news reporter. I settled with a simulacrum, or "frankenmonster", because the thought of April having the same mint green skin with scars like Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas is a good Halloween look (especially with her naturally gorgeous red hair),

Casey as a serial killer

Like in the Halloween arc, this is just an excuse for Casey to dress up in his usual vigilante gear. However, it's Halloween, so he has to be a bit more creative. So, Jones would whip out some older, dirtier, and wrecked gear like a broken mask, a baseball bat (taking a bit of inspo from Negan from Walking Dead), and red paint. Lots and LOTS of red paint.

Karai as a masked vampiress

I remembered a long time ago, someone compared Karai with her snake eyes/fangs to a vampire when her mutation first happened, and honestly, I can see it! That brought me to come up with this idea for Karai's costume. Imagine it being an old European/gothic look on her with a black dress with frills, a beautifully decorated black mask, and gloves. Safe to say that Shini has likely helped Karai pick out the right clothes for the look, and even do her hair and makeup.

Shinigami as a cat witch (inspired by Blair from Soul Eater)

This is one I just thought of as a fun idea. In Soul Eater, Blair is a recurring character who appears to be a witch girl with cat ears, but she's actually a real cat! Because Shini is a witch and cats are basically her spirit animal, it just makes sense for our underrated Foot Clan witch to go that costume route. Shini might as well be capable of casting a spell to give herself cat ears underneath a witch hat.

Slash as Raphael

This was just a cute idea that came to me. Slash wouldn't do much, but since he was Raph's owner before his mutation, I just thought it'd be sweet if Slash went as him for Halloween. All he really needs is a red mask and a giant pair of Sai.

Leatherhead as Frankenstein's monster

This one was from a suggestion by @fabuloustrash05 (out of a few options), but I think this one was the best fit for Leatherhead, because of the similarities between the two. He probably wouldn't be able to dress in costume, but that's why doing makeup is an option. I can see Mikey giving his gator friend some fake stitches/scars and neck bolts to make him the coolest franken-gator ever!

Mondo Gecko as an 80s rock star

The amount of times our skater gecko has this rocker guy personality, from using his skateboard as an air guitar and even his speech pattern, I just think this would be a fun costume idea for Mondo. Also would mentioning that his voice actor Robbie Rist is a musician.

Mona Lisa as Morticia Addams

This is something I borrowed from FabTrash, but for those who don't know, Sean Astin's father was Gomez in the live action Addams Family show from the mid 1960s. Since I didn't think to have Raph dress as Gomez, I'm making up for it by having his girlfriend Mona dress as the beautiful hag Morticia! Well, with just the iconic black dress and a bit of dark makeup. But just because Raph isn't Gomez in this list of characters in Halloween costumes doesn't mean he won't wear a Gomez costume for Mona.

Renet Tilley as Michelangelo

I always saw Renet as a big Ninja Turtles fanatic, and because her close bond with Mikey, it's beyond safe to say she likes him the most. I just think it's cute that Renet would wear a ninja turtle costume like April did in the Trick or Treat Tussle game, and she'd choose Mikey of course.

BONUS: Alex as a Dragon

I didn't want to leave out my Ally-boy on this. The idea was suggested by @xartisticmdx, so a dragon is the best one for Alex. He'd wear one of those pull-over masks with the mouth open that looks like a dragon's head and a tail to match. I would also think Mikey uses darker green body paint to give Alex scales, and even tape the wings and spine spikes onto his shell.

How “Zombie Garfield” Happened

Hello, friends.

Today, I want to talk about a comic series that is extremely special to me because it is one of the many comics that made me realize what I wanted to do as a calling and it helped shame my childhood as well as my sense of humour: Garfield. Sadly... this essay will be a negative one, but it needs to be written. It is how the “Zombie Garfield” came to be. No, it’s not a Halloween special, it is a case of how the downfall of Garfield happened and how it became nothing more than a shadow of what it once was. Note that this essay is also subjective and I am well aware that some fans like the new Garfield. I have nothing, but respect for those fans, but as someone who read Garfield from the beginning and owned a large majority of its books for the last 25 years, I can tell you that the iconic orange fat can is not what he once was and while he has yet to lose weight, he has lost a lot of his original charm. And it goes well beyond seasonal rot. To understand how Zombie Garfield came to be, I will list all the things that made classic Garfield great and how those qualities are now gone. And for the record, this is coming from someone who supports reboots and getting with the times.

1- Garfield is still and always will be a cat. - No matter out outlandish, wacky, ambidextrous his forepaws are or quirky Garfield will act, he will always fall back on being a cat. He cannot talk meaning no one can understand or hear his thoughts, he walks on four legs most of the time and he is a creature of his species habit. With the exception of eating mice that is.

In short, Garfield was smarter and more self-aware than the average cat, but he is a cat and would act like one. That was part of what made him funny, but over time, Garfield would walk only on his hind legs which now had human like feet, everyone could hear his thoughts or he could talk, and he was able to do everything a human being could do. In other words, Garfield became more like an anthropomorphic cat playing the part of a cat.

It just isn’t the same and while I love the Looney Toons for being this way, Garfield isn’t a Looney Toon. He was his own unique thing and now, that uniqueness is gone and I’m not the only who misses it. After all, Garfield paved the way for other pet themed comics thanks to being a cat. It also feels all the more wrong to stop being what he is supposed to be for that reason.

2- Garfield has a heart. - While Garfield has the personality of a problem child and slightly bullying big brother, deep down, he loves John, Odie and at one time, the comic was on the path with Garfield even growing to love Nermal. And no, this isn’t a joke. At one time, Nermal growing on Garfield was a thing.

That was also a huge part of the joke. Garfield was cynical, sarcastic and savage, but deep down, had a lot of love to give. And that is why we loved the comic strip. After all, how can you have a family slice of life comic if there’s no love? Now, Garfield’s antics have become outright sadistic to the point of being grimly homicidal which I get is funny to some, but to a long time fan like me, that is shocking and not the Garfield I know. At all. And not just Garfield. Everyone in the comic has become so mean spirited. While the Garfield family was never a perfect one, it was never dysfunctional like it is now. While even Nermal used to say clever quips, he was never actually mean because he actually admired Garfield. Now, the heart has been replaced with stone and it shows.

3- Garfield was relatable. - And not just for people with cats or for socially awkward people like Jon. Garfield was relatable to people in general because it dealt with issues that the average person could relate to. It wasn’t all about Garfield being a glutton or just putting down Jon. While exaggerated at times, at the core, we could all put ourselves in the characters’ shoes at one time or another. Kind of like, this situation right here;

Nowadays, we have Garfield taking these mission impossible type trips all the way in the Amazon jungle, he finds a dinosaur bone in his backyard and there was even a special about him becoming a superhero.

Now, I don’t mind specials that switch it up, but even the specials should be grounded in reality because that was Garfield’s major audience: real people. And I also understand that the new Garfield Show cartoon is aimed for children, but the type of episodes it features feel like they belong in another setting. Not for Garfield.

4- Everyone would win and lose some sometimes. Including Garfield. - In other words, Garfield was not a Mary Sue who would get away with everything no matter how awful he acted. Sooner or later, he would get his karma moments just like everyone else would. And on the flipside, the others would win every now and then for their efforts including Jon and Odie. This kept the characters interesting and funny.

Now, there seems to be an unwritten rule that no matter how bad Garfield acts, the worst he gets is a slap on the paw. And also, Jon just isn’t allowed to win anymore (with the exception of the point I will bring up next and I’m surprised he still has that with how he is written now). This has changed Garfield into a mischievous yet loveable cat to a borderline abuser. This is absolute not the Garfield I know at all. Sure, he was savage at times, but never cruel. And Jon was socially awkward and had a rocky love life, but he was never THIS inept.

5- Jon’s struggle with winning Liz’s heart. - If there was one true plot to Garfield, it was Jon finding true love though specifically, him trying to woo Garfield’s vet Liz. It was always kind of hinted that sooner or later, Jon would finally capture her heart and it was something we were all rooting for yet at the same time, it would be bittersweet because it would mark the end of the series just as Steve Urkell finally winning Laura Winslow from Family Matters marked the end of that series. As long as Liz only at best tolerated Jon, it meant that the story was still going on and in its defense, the comic was still funny throughout that period even if by the end, its age was starting to show.

And on a side note, I mean even years after this phase of the comic, but this is the best of the Jon wooing Liz strip’s in my opinion. Anyway, when the fateful day happened where the pair finally went steady, we all expected to end. Of course, not abruptly as there would be a few new jokes to tell, but the story ran its natural course and the only big left to do was end it on a high note with Jon and Liz most likely either getting married or at least living together... but that didn’t happen. The comic is still ongoing which is a disservice to it because all of the important jokes have run out. Now, it looks like the story will continue until Liz leaves Jon which is not a good way to end the show because instead of ending on a happy high note, it will end on a sad low note. If it even ends when that happens.

Now, as I stated before, this is all my opinion, but I have to say that in my mind, once Liz finally became Jon’s woman and the family accepted her, Garfield ended. I also want to clear the air that new Garfield in no way, shape or form changes the way I feel about my Garfield. Nothing can change that for me. I am just saying that I have lost interest in the comic and I just take it as another example of what happens when you don’t let a story end once it has run its natural course. It loses itself.

Day 6: A Pokémon hanging out with (or running from) the zombified version of itself

Day 7: Choose two months, personify them, then draw what their first date would look like

Day 8: Sanders Sides characters on their dream vacations!

Day 9: A business that a Halloween monster or character would thrive on if they ran it!

Day 10: Take any popular author, imagine if they were a superhero, and draw what their comic book cover would look like!

Day 11: Portray any Disney princess as the “monster/scary thing” from a horror movie such as The Conjuring, The Nun, etc., either depicting them in a scene from the movie or the poster for the movie!

Day 12: Take any two coffee flavors, like Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint, and draw a battle between them, Mortal Kombat style (brew-tality lol)

Day 13: Take any Avenger from the MCU, and reimagine them as a Pokemon Gym Master! What would their Pokemon team look like?

Day 14: Reimagine a Sanders Sides, Cartoon Therapy, or other original character from our content as a kind of humanoid piece of candy or sweet treat!

Day 15: I really enjoyed this prompt from last year, so this year, take any Disney Villain, and use them as the inspiration for a Met Gala outfit! NO DALMATIAN PUPPY FUR ALLOWED, ALL OF YOU CRUELLA FANS.

Day 16: Take any traditional Halloween monster/character or any horror movie villain and make… them… CUTE. Now whether that’s adorably cuddly cute or va-va-voom cute is completely up to you! - Erin

Day 17: Take your fave character or OC and reimagine Steampunk versions of them!

Day 18: Take your fave food and create a cartoon character based off of it! It can have its own style, be stylized after an existing cartoon, whatever you wish!

Day 19: Take a quote from a book, song, or movie that particularly inspired you, and make it the main centerpiece of this day’s piece of art! Wherever you’d want to take the art from there is up to you!

Day 20: Here’s a cool challenge for ya! You can draw any Halloween-themed picture you want, BUT It’s all in ONE pen stroke. You can’t take your drawing utensil off the paper!

Day 21: What if anyone else from Halloweentown, other than Jack Skellington, had discovered and fell in love with Christmastown? Would anyone else have tried to dress up as Santa? Would they hatch another plan entirely??

Day 22: Back due to demand, take your fave character(s) from two different animated tv shows/anime/movie and depict them in each other’s animation style! An animation swap, if you will!

Day 23: Ever watch a movie or show and wish it had ended a different way? This is your chance to correct the plots to conclude the way YOU wanted it concluded! Oh boy, this may end up getting controversial lol

Day 24: We all know traditional Halloween monsters... but create what you think the Halloween monsters of today or the FUTURE would be!!

Day 25: This one is purely selfish because I’m still so in love with the past creations. Take ANY character of your choice from ANY piece of media and draw them in the style of a Tim Burton illustration!

Day 26: Speaking of classics, gotta include this one cause it’s tradition! Draw your OTP in Halloween costumes that are designed to go together!!

Day 27: Take any dramatic scene from any scary or Halloween-y movie... and meme it.

Day 28: How to Train Your [Insert Monster/Demon/Halloween-y creature here]

Day 29: This one is SUPER open-ended, but I’m into that. Take any book, turn to the 13th page (so the book has to be at least 13 pages lol) and go to the 13th word on that page (if it’s an article like “a” or “the”, just go to the next adjacent noun/verb/adjective/adverb) and use it as the inspiration for a one-worded scary movie/book. Draw that poster or book cover!

Day 30: Slightly inspired by the eerie vibe one can sometimes get from Spinel (SU), Betty Boop cartoons, etc. take any character, Halloween-y creature or otherwise from any of your fave piece of media, and depict them in the classic rubberhose/ Max Fleischer-inspired art style!!

Day 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Do you remember a specific Halloween that was especially memorable for you?? It might have been because of the friends you spent it with, or a memorable moment that happened, or because of a costume you were particularly fond of. Or maybe there were a series of Halloweens that were dear to you because of a tradition you did with your family (and maybe still do!). Depict that moment along with an explanation! If you just wanna write about it, that’s fine too!
