long rant because I literally had him on my mind for the past few hours

so he started out kinda like Mira/Melody (Harmonia) in terms of being like this child god messing around with the mortals

HOWEVER when I became lowkey obsessed with his character I made him a follower of Cora

But then I was like “he needs some drama”

so I rummaged around my box of characters and boom the tale of Kim happens

I genuinely think this story or like their plot saved him as a major character cause I don’t think he would be as important now if i didn’t do like major improvements to his character

BUT DUDEEEEEE the blood moon lori revamp is genuinely one of my favorite things EVER from bm

it’s so weirdly bm coded I don’t know how to explain it, like it’s exactly what I wanted it to be as a story—perfectly horrific and hella dramatic

His right hand black and clawed, his left hand a long blade of bone, icy wings and jetlike tail protruding from his back. He's panting. It's apparently been a grueling trial and error. But this time...

Each individual is given a rating, labeled "humanity quotient". Some are much higher than others. It's as if data is being gathered...on how one can become a human.

Seeing some of these individuals fills Sword with dread, the blood-stained child falling to his knees before the screen. He didn't want to remember.

Harmonia

Harmonia Blood Code Study- Eva Roux "A blood code received from Eva. It holds her will to pay back and dedicate her life to the one who saved her from being a slave. This code improves focus bonuses and features excellent Dark Gifts. It is weak to being staggered but supplies ample amounts of ichor."

Introduction to Blood Codes and Eva

Blood Codes are the abilities imbued within a Revenant's Blood. Each Blood Code is unique to each Revenant that resides within the Gaol of the Mist. Once a Revenant has awakened from their slumber after the BOR parasite has been placed in them, the blood takes on a Code which I believe derives from the characteristics of that Revenant.

Eva willingly became a Third Generation Revenant during her time with Jack. She is completely devoted to Jack and is willing to do anything to assist Jack or take on burdens that would cause him less pain. Even when her strength falters or she's at the edge of a frenzy, she'll prioritize Jack's wellbeing. Jack has the same feelings when it comes to protecting Eva as well. That's why these two balance each other so well as Watchers of the Successors.

Greek Mythology

Eva's Blood Code is based on the Greek Goddess Harmonia.

Harmonia was known as the Goddess of harmony and concord. The only notable story linked with this Goddess is the Necklace of Harmonia. It all started with Hephaestus, who discovered that his wife Aphrodite the Goddess of love had cheated on him with Ares the God of War. He cursed their future bloodline saying that any offspring from them would be cursed. Harmonia is Aphrodite's daughter and Harmonia was to be wed to Cadmus, the founder of the city of Thebes. When Hephaestus heard about the marriage, he created a necklace for Harmonia and offered it as a gift.

The Necklace of Harmonia is said to bring misfortune to anyone who their possessor is. In exchange, the necklace grants eternal youth and beauty to the one who wears it. The necklace itself was made from gold and jewels and it had two small snakes clasped on the gem

Due to the exploits of Cadmus, when he was ready to sacrifice a cow to the Goddess Athena, a water dragon attacked but he managed to kill it. The dragon was under the jurisdiction of Ares, Harmonia's father and served him for eight years until he and the gods demanded he marries Harmonia. After their marriage, the necklace brought on many diseases upon the city of Thebes and to their family. Harmonia and Cadmus left the city and went to Illyria. In the end, Harmonia and Cadmus were both turned into serpents. Cadmus' fate was ill and reclined his fate to turn into a serpent himself just as the dragon he slain. Harmonia followed, wanting the same fate as Cadmus.

The necklace itself was continuously passed down to her daughter and future generations but all of them suffered devastating misfortunes.

Similarities to Eva and Harmonia

Harmonia brings harmony to all things, and Eva's high compatibility with the relics and the power of her voice alone bring harmony in the realm of the Vein. Her voice can calm the Lost and Successors from their frenzy (even if it's only temporary).

We have Rin who carries the Blood Code Hephaestus and Eva who has the Harmonia blood code, but they're drastically opposite to their Greek God counterparts. When Eva left home base, Rin was the one who was supposed to watch over her but was disappointed in herself for not being able to go after her. Rin was very distraught about it and was genuinely worried if Eva was okay or not. Unlike Hephaestus' spiteful nature, Rin is an absolute sweetheart and I can imagine her hugging Eva the minute she returned to Home Base safe and sound.

Based on the lore of Harmonia, we could say Cadmus is Jack as Eva is to Harmonia. Jack worked tirelessly for years after Operation Queenslayer to watch over the Relic's and Successors just as Cadmus served years under Ares service. Jack 'killed' the MC and the MC relates to the Water Dragon that Cadmus ended up killing. Both MC and the dragon were both under a rule of another, the MC taking in the Queen's blood which made them become a successor inheriting the relic and the water dragon is under Ares' jurisdiction when they ruled over certain land. Cadmus had to make up for the dragon's death while Jack had to begin his duties of being a watcher after he puts down the MC.

As mentioned, Ares ordered Cadmus to marry Eva and thus began their endeavors and their route of misfortunes when she received the necklace. While Jack gave Eva as much freedom as he could, she willingly chose to assist Jack and remain at his side, not because of obligation but she sincerely cares for him. While not much is noted of Harmonia's personality, even she remained devoted to her husband until the bitter end.

With Eva having the capacity to store many relics within her, it is also her misfortune. She is aware that carrying many relics takes a toll on her as we see her collapse while stopping Jack. However, she knows she has the power to contain them and she will do it if it lessens Jack's burden. With the Necklace of Harmonia, the city of Thebes bred disease and it also affected the people and Harmonia's family.

It relates to the Revenants in the Vein that suffers from Bloodthirst and the lack of blood beads. It also pays homage to it in the Crown of Sand area, since wherever the player or your partner steps on the sand, it immediately drains Ichor. "Leak" is a debuff in the game and it describes as: "This debuff causes your blood to rot, slowly draining your ichor." if any Revenant's blood rots then they're unable to use any abilities or Gifts which could be considered a disease in itself.

“Look, there used to be ruins here, but now they’ve been turned into a desert. the successor who created the crypt used their very last ounce of strength as they struggled to resist their relic. The wind scattered salt from a dried up lake over the land nearby, making it barren. Now it’s the same kind of desolate place as the one where Eva was born. She and I promised each other that if either of us fell to the thirst, the other would have the last of their humanity. Eva is waiting for me... just over there...I’m talking too much. anyway, i’m going on ahead. this is between me and Eva.” -Jack Rutherford

Also, regarding the relics, the main disease that Jack and Eva have to worry about is frenzy. Once frenzy hits, it's over.

Cadmus was burdened with being the founder of the city and eventually caving into his fate to become a serpent, a similar beast to the dragon he slain. Harmonia followed him and joined in with his fate. We see Eva doing this for Jack as well. Eva wasn't a Revenant yet when she met Jack and in the end after everything that transpired between both of them, Eva decides to join Jack and become a Revenant and the Successor of the Relic.

As Jack mentioned in the Crown of Sands area, Eva grew up in a similar environment. This is related to the city of Thebes that Cadmus founded. The city of Thebes is a city in a desert environment that matches well with how Eva is linked to the sands. Harmonia married to Cadmus in the City of Thebes and resided there for a decent amount of time. Eva grew up in an area similar to Thebes (we're not sure where in the real world the Vein is referenced from).

As we can see in Eva's design. Her scars are probably her physical representation of Harmonia's misfortune along with the infamous Harmonia's Necklace. While there's no official image I can reference from (cause frankly the necklace could have a vastly different design and there are various interpretations of it), Eva does wear a necklace and Jack also wear a necklace matching with her, which displays how they both are willing to share the same fate. This is a nod to Harmonia's lore.

Harmonia's Gifts

Gift Prowess-Temporarily increases gift speed for you and your partner.

This Gift as you guys can probably guess relates to Harmonia's relationship with Cadmus. Qhile many things happened during their time together, they remained together til the bitter end. They both supported eachother despite the fate and the curses that fell upon them. - Max Ichor Boost-Increases the maximum amount of ichor that can be held. Mind/Willpower Up-Increases mind and willpower.

These Gifts specifically pertain to Harmonia's necklace. While the necklace caused her misfortune, it gave her eternal youth which is the only benefit she had. Ichor is special blood that enables a Revenant to use Gifts and abilities so the more ichor a Revenant has the more versatile, and it's the same with Eva. In terms of the Mind/Willpower Up, it's within the same theory including the fact that Harmonia in Greek lore is very strong-willed to keep up with misfortune after misfortune. - Supernatural Blood-Enables you to sacrifice HP to use Gifts when you have run out of ichor.

Harmonia turned into a snake and sacrificed herself when her husband fell prey to the same fate. Harmonia did it voluntarily just like Eva voluntarily became a Revenant to support Jack. This Gift references from Harmonia's sacrifice. - Volatile Storm-Creates blades of sand that converge on the target and explode. Sand Edge-Creates a blade of high-pressurized sand from the ground that knocks away foes.

The gifts here with sand like properties relates to the city of Thebes where Harmonia's husband founded and ruled over. Harmonia was also by her husband's side and lived within the city as well. Thebes in real life is a sand-like area as well (however we don't know if Eva is really from there or not). While Harmonia was not a fighting God, she was a part of the city and these are more based on Harmonia wanting to protect her family and the people of Thebes from any threats.

Concluding thoughts

Eva is a very lovely character overall. I feel like the lore of Harmonia matches well with her and it balances out with Jack being her Cadmus in the lore. Other than the Necklace of Harmonia and how Harmonia matches with her ideals, there's not too much to expand on. The one thing I am thankful though is that her supposed 'misfortunes' weren't as severe as her Greek God counterpart. She brings a great sense of balance to the crew at home base and I don't think the story would work out without her presence. Plus her dedication to Jack is something that should be admired.

After waking up pretty early again Harmony decided to go to the stone circle outside of the compound again. Something about this area in the early morning hours was deeply relaxing. She climbed up one of the rocks and sat on it with her face away from the building. She had a nightmare that night about seeing people dying and it still didn’t fully leave her system. Gore wasn’t something she usually dreamt about. She didn’t even watch horror movies. She had her little journal with her and wrote the rest of her erie feeling out of her system. Steve was watching her from afar after he finished his morning run. Something about her today was different. He could feel it and see it in the way she acted. After a while, she jumped down from the giant rock to put her journal back into her backpack and started training a bit. Seeing her pick up those gigantic rocks with her powers made Steve drop his jaw and as soon as she kicked it the opposite direction of him he got the chills. Training alone gave her some kind of balance that made it possible for her to cry. If the anger could leave her body, the sadness could go too. After watching her for a while he saw her picking up her things again and left for his room to not make her feel uncomfortable.

After a shower she picked up her sketchbook and some art supplies and left the compound to go to the tower again. She didn’t even think about the plans she made with James for the morning, she just needed a different environment to get her mind off things. She walked in to a few college students learning for their exams and two high schoolers hurrying to leave because their next lesson would start soon. After grabbing a snack she sat down in front of one of the laptops in the computer room and opened her book of shadows on a new page to write down the symbolism of her dream. There was something very soul-cleansing about spending the evening before and this morning alone with herself and her thoughts.

Someone sat down next to her while she was deep into reading an article on coping through dreaming. “Is everything okay, Harmony?” Steve’s voice asked beside her.

She looked away from the screen and at him, “Yeah, just need some alone time. Why are you asking?” “You are so different today. I saw you train and you were...not like you usually are,” he answered softly. “I had a nightmare but I’m fine. Promise.” she gave him a weak smile but she meant it. He put a hand on her shoulder, “I’m always here if you wanna talk about it, okay?” She nodded, “I know. Sometimes I just need a bit of time to understand things myself.” “You wanna be alone now?” He asked empathetic. “If you wanna stay you can. I don’t mind. Just don’t interrupt me too much.” She smiled before she got a nod and looked back onto the screen. The morning hours in the tower were actually quite nice, not a lot of people and still a lot of inspiration from Midtown Manhattan outside. Steve was drawing again, this time with markers, and she went on with reading about PTSD and other mental health things. The only sound interrupting the silence was her regularly eating a date from the snack package she grabbed or the closing and opening of a pen. “You know...he’s the old him around you,” Steve said out of nowhere after closing a marker. “I know. He just...he’s home,” she described it back to him. “And the only times you have a generally positive look on your face is when he’s around.” He went on. “You can be lonely in a room full of people until the right person comes around.” She smiled softly at the thought of the evening before. “You love him,” he said with a soft and knowing smile back. “Yes. Yes, I do.” A dumb little smile formed on her lips after saying that out loud. “He loves you too.” He opened the next marker. “I know.” Her heart made a little extra jump. “Why that?” He asked with a grin knowing that she was either about to list all the ways he made her happy or tell a great story of him admitting his feelings somehow. She opened her sketchbook on the page he had drawn. “That’s why you weren’t mad at him when you came out of the elevator.” He realized. She giggled and nodded at his little realization. “He can be really charming if he wants to, huh?” He joked about his friend. “Truly, with a little pinch of being afraid of me throwing him across the room with my magic...which I won’t say that it happened but I don’t wanna lie either.” She was back at her normal self again finally. Both of them started chuckling before they heard footsteps in the door, “It was her learning self-defense may I add.” James said with a smile. Her whole face lit up even more when she saw him there “What are you doing here?” she asked while pointing at the chair left to her. He walked over with a, “My two main idiots aren’t at the compound. Of course I look for you here after you told me about your art sessions. Turns out they are also gossiping about me sessions.” He winked with a smile on his face. Before sitting down he leaned forward and softly pressed a kiss onto her lips. This was the most perfect situation. His best friend deserved to know first and he was the most comfortable doing this in front of him. With one of his typical Steve smiles he asked, “How long have you been doing this right in front of my face without me knowing?” “Since the elevator incident,” James answered. “Great. Makes me feel really good about myself that me scaring you, kissing you where Steve can’t eavesdrop and you telling me my art is better than Steve’s is ‘The Elevator Incident’,” She chuckled. Something about her warm hand on his cold one was calming him. “Actually...I made a painting of that incident.” She flipped open the page with her free hand. “That’s pretty.” James smiled at it and leaned forward to kiss her head. “Of course you like a painting of yourself dude.” Steve laughed. “It’s called being grateful and in love Steve!” He said giving him a slight punch on his arm with his free hand. “You sure you both aren’t blood-related?” She looked at both of them with a soft smile. “Nah, I would be way more of a dumbass if I was related to him.” James started. “But also a little more artistic.” Came back from the other side. “Damn, that hurt.” He said fake offended. Harmony just shook her head giggling, “I went here to learn but that’s impossible with two idiots left and right from me.” Their little chatting session was interrupted by a lot of school kids coming in. School was over for most of them and she realized how long she had been sitting there with Steve before James came.

The girl from last time sat down across from them with a little smile at Harmony. “Hey Lydia.” Steve beside her said with a smile. “Oh, she really came to you for help, huh? Told her you were a complete dork.” Harmony nudged her elbow into his side. “He is.” Came back with a bright smile. “Can we help you somehow?” She asked her. “Not unless you wanna write an essay about pop culture and its influence on spirituality in the last 10 years.” Came back a little bit exhausted. “I know a lot about it but really wouldn’t know where to start with it. Let me know if you need my help when it comes to nature religions and witchcraft.” Harmony answered. Her eyes got a little bigger when she heard witchcraft. “Wait. Tell me a little bit about witchcraft cause that’s something we didn’t talk about and that could get me a straight A.” She was excited all of a sudden. “Sure.” Harmony grabbed her book and came over to her to talk about her experiences with witchcraft. The two men just sat across from them staring for the longest time until Steve continued drawing and James stole her sketchbook and drew something into it too.

“Can I ask you something?” Lydia almost whispered. “Sure.” Harmony smiled knowing some weird question was about to come. “Are you...an Avenger?” Not what she expected. She shrugged her shoulders “Ask Tony. I can throw this one across a room,” She pointed at her boyfriend, “so I’ll assume yes.” “I didn’t defend myself. Just for the record,” he answered from the other side of the table. “No, you were distracted and called me a dork, remember?” She chuckled. “Yes, that shit hurt.” He almost mumbled it. “Too old for the job, huh?” She poked fun at him. “Don’t get too confident over there, little witch.” He smiled a heartwarming smile. “I’m always confident...soldier boy.” Her eyes narrowed with a smirk. “Get a room!” Steve now commented with a big smile on what happened in front of him. “Remember that both my room and his room are super close to yours? I think you would still hear us...talking.” That was a saved sentence there, the girl didn’t need to know about this. The little smirk that instantly vanished again from James’ face was only noticeable for her. “So...you are an Avenger? Cool.” Lydia smiled at her a little bit in awe.

i used to do burlesque dancing! it was a lot of fun and i wanted to eventually be good enough to perform but the dance studio i was training under shut down. i liked it but not enough to go to seattle once a week for classes.

my family records on my mom’s side are lost (the holocaust and all) but one of my great uncles traced my dad’s family line all the way back to henry ii, king of england, except i guess we’re related by his son john. the boring one.

i’ve been told i have a supernatural ability to get along with horses. i used to work on a ranch that had a really aggressive mare and i was the only person who was able to get close to her, and after her foal was born i was the only one he wouldn’t rear up at or bite. but this only applies to horses.

my favorite hobby is trying new drinks. mostly sodas, but since i’ve turned 21 this has extended to alcohol, which has turned out bad because i end up drinking the stuff like it’s soda anyway.

i fully intend to get a tattoo of the harmonia blood code symbol on my wrist. undecided as to whether or not i want the queen’s throat code symbol on the other one.

Dwight didn’t turn around, his eyes continuing to stare off into the starry sky. His mind felt blank yet overwhelming crowded all at once. He didn’t want to think right now. “Yes?” He asked Leera.

Leera paused for  a moment before speaking again. Bad news then. “We’ve discovered that someone has decoded the Collider’s location.”

Dwicky looked over his shoulder at that. “What?”

“We’re not sure why it took so long for us to notice, but the captain is sure that’s what the signal is.” She fiddled with her hands. “Sir, perhaps we should change locations?”

“No,” Dwicky replied sharply.

Leera’s eyes widened. “But sir!”

“Who else knows about this?” His eyes were dangerous, cold and icy.

Leera stammered for a moment. “Just the captain. So just the three of us.” She took a bold step forward. “Sir we really should-,”

“We are staying right here.” He said firmly, turning on his heel. “And inform the captain that if he values his life, he will keep this quiet. And so will you.”

Leera looked like Dwight had lost his mind. Perhaps he had. “Mr. Dwicky that’s-”

“I believe I gave an order, Leera,” Dwight said darkly, stepping forward to loom over her. “Are you going to question an order from me?”

Leera knew that look. That was the look he got right before he stabbed someone in the gut and watched them bleed out. She opened and closed her mouth several times. He was the boss... “No sir. I apologize.”

Dwight stared her down for a moment longer before letting up. “Good. Now get out. And ensure I’m not disturbed. Even by Harmonia.”

Leera stood there a little longer, confused and concerned. Had he really just...ordered that they do nothing about a potential threat? What was going on? However, and order was an order. “...Yes sir...” she said as she left the room.

Dwight waited for Leera to leave before locking the door completely. Now no one could come in. He pressed a button on his chair and a bookshelf slide to the side, revealing another door. He used his letter opener to slice open his thumb, using the blood on a DNA code pad. The door unlatched and opened for him, shutting behind him as he entered. No one else was allowed in here.

He looked around at the walls. Pictures of Plookesia. Articles and scraps. Headlines of the destruction. Bits and pieces from the ship Dwight had managed to escape on. Even some photos from when he was a counselor on Earth...

And at the center of it all, a photo of him and his family...

He gave a huff, settling into the chair that sat in the middle of the room. He rested his head in his hand.

I’m also pretty sure no one’s name follows the color rule, but I’ll point out how you can tweak it if I can.

Louis’s main weapon is his trademark Enduring Crimson, which now has a bunch of Dust chambers allowing him to shoot projectiles that resemble in-game gifts. (Usually the barrages that stun, as the Fire variant of that Gift is part of his blood code.) His Semblance is a short teleport during which he dissolves into Mist, not unlike the Mist Body form. This is usually done to gain momentum or pull off moves similar to his Phantom Slash. You could maybe make an argument about St. Louis’ color themes, if you wanted.

Yakumo still uses Oni Bane, though I’d like to play with its construction by allowing both sides of the blade to fold up to make an even longer sword. Its central vein is where dust distributes itself through the blade, allowing for elemental strikes. His semblance is actually his Foulblood Barrier technique - he can amplify the defensive abilities of his and his allies’ aura to create an extra, larger barrier, which appears as a translucent red bubble. (He can also place these around objects by spending his own aura) We don’t know what kanji Yakumo’s name uses, but the second kanji of most spellings means Cloud so he’s solid.

Mia’s Brodiaea is, like Louis’s weapon, a pretty one-to-one translation - moreso than Louis’s, even, because hers is already part gun. Obviously she can use dust rounds to get different kinds of shots. She is, however, also a Scorpian Faunus who, like Tyrian, uses her tail extensively in her fighting style. Her semblance, Bloodsucking Blade, allows her to refill her aura by damaging her opponents’ aura - but she has to spend aura on the attack/shot she does this with, so if she whiffs she’s at a net loss of aura. Her name could be spun as a variant of Maria, as in the Virgin Mary, who is often associated with a certain shade of blue.

Io isn’t a huntress, and doesn’t really want to be one. Her semblance, Panacea, allows her to heal others with minimal cost of her essence, which is why she was allowed to be an assistant in the medical wing of the school. (Everyone asks her to change out of that dress, please, this is a place where people are trying to learn but she doesn’t listen) Later on, as she decides she Does want to fight and help out the Player, she starts learning (on her own) to fight with Dammerung, which has a specially-designed projectile system that produces a Dust-shield instead of traditional rounds. Her name is also a moon of Jupiter, which is a very neat pastel yellow color.

Jack and Eva are an established Huntsman/Huntress duo, and quite famous as well. There are rumors going around that there is someone hunting Huntsmen/Huntresses, but it is not publicly known it is them. Jack uses his Executioner, which is a surprisingly simple weapon with no Dust chambers. His semblance is Sacrificial Edge, which allows him to drain his own Aura to increases his own speed and strength. Eva’s Libertador now actually has target-seeking bullets, though obviously they can be blocked or outmaneuvered because it’d be broken otherwise. Her semblance is Harmonia, and allows her to pacify people with her singing - she can even pacify Grimm. (And the Successors) Jack could refer to Black Jack if we want to stretch the color rule a touch, while Eva is like Eve as in Evening as in darkness/black/dark blue.

The Successors are their own magical Thing that, like in the game, require living hosts to keep the Queen (who might be renamed for this?) from waking up. This is far less recent history as in the game, but the Queen Herself must be sealed within a living vessel seperate from the Successors, which is currently Cruz. (Insert me being angry that the word Relic was actually used correctly in Code Vein but not in RWBY but to work with the crossover I gotta change the name of the Code Vein ones) The Relics are now called Remains (proper titles are phrased as “Remains of the Ribcage” etc. etc.) but otherwise have the exact same function. Crypts and Successor Forms are also the same.

I don’t want to go through the Sucessors but most of them are no longer combatants, with the story beats about most of them still working. Aurora was still a scientist and mentor to Louis, Nikola was still projecting an image of himself to speak to/look after Mia, etc. etc.

The team name depends entirely on what the Player/Protagonist would be named and also whether they or Louis are the team leader. (Which I think could genuinely go either way)

If we go with a P name for them, because of Player and Protagonist, then it could be either PYML for Primal (player leader)? Maybe LYMP for Lamp for Louis (LPSK for Lipstick is a funny one, and APYM for Apium works if we let Louis use his surname)

But for My protagonist (because I think he’s Cute) Kuiper/Kipper it could be: KMLY for Kimberly (apparently it’s a color?) or KASM for Kashmir (if we allow Yakumo to use his surname) for him as the leader. Louis-as-leader could use AKKS for Axe (requires everyone but my player use their last name) or LKKY for Lucky (requires Mia use her last name). If we ignore the “The leader uses the first letter” rule, then MYLK for Milk is a real strong name.

Hephaestus

Hephaestus Blood Code- Rin Murasame "A blood code received from Murasame. It holds her passionate will to support allies who throw themselves into difficult battles and watch over them with a smile when they come home. This code focuses specalizes in dexterity based weapons and uses devious Gifts to toy with the enemy."

Introduction to Blood Codes and Rin

Blood Codes are the abilities imbued within a Revenant's Blood. Each Blood Code is unique to each Revenant that resides within the Gaol of the Mist. Once a Revenant has awakened from their slumber after the BOR parasite has been placed in them, the blood takes on a Code which I believe derives from the characteristics of that Revenant.

I'd like to think Rin is either a first/second generation revenant. She's burdened by the decisions she's made in the past that made her reluctant to battle. She replaced her unwillingness to go to the front lines by handling the support side for everyone at Home Base and always exudes a cheerful personality for the crew to come home to.

Greek Mythology

Rin's blood code is based on the Greek God Hephaestus.

Hephaestus is a Blacksmith and a fire God known for his creations of many different things. Hephaestus was notably a secondary God in various mythologies and the only pertaining role he did have was his revenge against his mother Hera, who claimed to have hated him, called him ugly & deformed after birth. He was tossed away from Hera but the gods Thetis and Eurynome rescued him.

As for the revenge against Hera, he created a golden throne and Hera was so enthralled by the creation that she immediately wanted it for herself. The minute she sat on it, she was trapped by invisible cords that refuse to let her go free. Hephaestus was the only one that could see these cords and the other gods begged Hephaestus to let Hera free but he refused until he got drunk by Dionysus, the god of wine and vegetation.

Hephaestus is also famously known for being the creator of Pandora, after being commanded by Zeus. Pandora was created after inducing Prometheus' punishment for stealing Hephaestus fire from his workshop.

Similarities between Rin and Hephaestus

Hephaestus was known for his creations in his workshop. He provided armour and weapons to many famous heroes and gods. Rin is relied on for handling maintenance, upgrades and selling new Blood Veils and weapons in her workshop.

Hermes, Davis' blood code is also a sibling of Hephaestus. Of course, we don't see them interact in the game even though their stations are right next to each other. Presumably, they both get along since I assume Davis also gets his weapons tuned by Rin.

Since Louis' blood code is Prometheus and Prometheus was the one who stole fire from Hephaestus' workshop along with the knowledge of metalwork, these Greek Gods only interacted indirectly through those instances. Louis and Rin do get along in the game and they both support each other while Rin looks forward to the reports from him, Louis trusts her with managing his weapon, bringing new material and other things relating to Rin's workshop.

Eva's blood code is Harmonia but the relationship between Harmonia and Hephaestus is completely different from Rin and Eva in the game. Hephaestus gifted Harmonia a necklace and the lore of Harmonia's story is called: Harmonia's necklace. The necklace caused great misfortune for Harmonia but it grants the wearer eternal youth. Hephaestus gave Harmonia the necklace out of spite of her mother Aphrodite who cheated on Hephaestus with Harmonia's father Ares. However, as we can see from cutscenes, Rin sincerely cares about Eva, especially when Eva left Home Base not knowing the depth of her condition and felt upset about not being able to keep a good eye on her.

Rin's has the blood code Hephaestus while Mia holds the blood code Artemis. These Greek god and goddesses are siblings, and while they don't interact much in Greek Mythology, it's understandable that Rin has taken a shine to Mia. Mia was able to fit in at Home base with Rin around and I think Rin is just as excited to have someone who is close to her age that she can befriend.

Hephaestus was known for his supposed 'deformity' but from how I'm seeing it,  Rin doesn't have any physical deformity. She wears her purifier mask everywhere but we learn from the artbook that it's due to her handling weapons all the time. Working with BOR parasites and queen blood metals would probably emit some miasma or toxins in the air.

Then there's Rin's name in battle "Yaksha" or in other words demon. With Hephaestus' nature in Greek Mythology, the Yasksha part of Rin's background would relate to Hephaestus' spiteful nature against other gods that did him wrong. Rin doesn't exhibit Hephaestus' true nature but can easily reveal those characteristics during battle only. With Rin, she feels guilt with the things she was incapable of doing but Hephaestus' didn't deal with those kinds of emotions.

However, with the strong battle experience Rin displayed in her memories, she has that advantage over Hephaestus'. Hephaestus' as I have read, hasn't fully immersed himself into battle, he's more of a support for battle providing weapons, shields, and armory to the other gods (along with his knowledge of fire and metalwork). Rin in the past showed the opposite of that. While she is now gotten comfortable being in the support role and acquiring the knowledge and proficiency of helping other Revenants, she doesn't carry any grudges, unlike Hephaestus.

Hephaestus was more along the lines of deception with the mythology behind Harmonia's necklace, Pandora and the golden throne for Hera. We see those traits being exploited more within Rin's Gifts for her blood code. "Uses devious Gifts to toy with the enemy." Several of Hephaestus' creations were for deviousness and or weakness for the gods he gifted his creations. While there's not much connecting lore between Hephaestus and Rin, the one major common trait they share is that they're both seen with a hammer in their workshop.

Hephaestus' Gifts

Avance-Increases the amount of ichor gained from drain attacks. Pioneer's Guidance-Makes Gifts easier to master.

Hephaestus was always finding the best of ways to master and perfect his creations over all things, including the creation of Pandora.  These two Gifts are from Hephaestus' subconsciously ingrained mindset to perfect his works. - Inhibit Resistance- Increases inhibit resistance. Inhibit Removal-Cures you and your partner of inhibit. Use to block the effect before being afflicted.

These inhibit preventative Gifts is based on Hephaestus' defiance against certain Gods. He would conjure up an invention or a certain craft that would end up leading to the other's downfall.

- Swift Destruction-Increases damage dealt in proportion to your mobility. Vanishing Hollow- Dodge attacks by transforming into mist. Countermeasure- For a limited time, dodging enemy attacks generates projectiles that attack the enemy. Evasive Snare-Dodging enemy attacks generates projectiles at the cost of ichor that attack the enemy.

These Gifts aren't as much related to Hephaestus since he didn't participate in battles. These correlate more towards the gimmicks of his creations. There's always an intriguing pro or con towards his creations such as the chair for Hera so these Gifts could translate from his creations rather than Hephaestus' power prowess. - Flames of Rage-Manipulates ichor to create a trap at your feet that immolates assailants. Dancing Blaze-Fires a ricocheting bullet. These Gifts related to Hephaestus' proficiency over Fire. He utilizes fire in his workshop for his creations or makes creations that would cause a cursed effect on it and the bearer of it which links to the Flames of Rage gift. Or the Flames of Rage could also reference Prometheus steals his fire.

Concluding Thoughts

Rin's Blood Code Hephaestus is aligned with her role at Home Base rather than the lore behind Hephaestus. She brings a lot of cheerfulness to the harsh world they live in. It makes sense why she doesn't fight anymore, but I hope there is some kind of development where she'll grow out of the fears of abandoning her comrades. I'm sure she'll play some sort of bigger role based on the true ending but for now, Rin deserves all the happiness in the world and I'm glad she was created differently from her Greek God counterpart.

It’s fine I leave it open so people can talk to me. Another thing I forgot to mention about that best ending is you also have to complete Io’s vestige. The exact things to do are repair Isis, Fionn, Scathach, Harmonia, and Eos before fighting they’re respective bosses and the last boss. The neutral ending is repair at least one but not all of them and the worst ending is don’t repair any of them. Getting all three endings should also get you almost every blood code besides a handful that you get through doing the map depths and your blood Code (queenslayer) that you get for restoring your memories. Other than that there are just some you get off the ground.

What they’ve been up to recently: Uuuuuuuh my main verse could use some work so all the interactions I’ve made so far don’t pertain to it at all ._.; (I suppose I’ll just call it “The Verse that Never Was” since the Reincarnation AU & Spirits of Chaos AU is basically the aftermath of it. Technically, it involves all my AUs, but that’s a story for another day .-.)

💜 Eusine has no direction or plans, he’s a NEET. He does have a major crush for Morty, but he’s always turned down... 💛 Morty really misses his old job as a Gym Leader, but hasn’t done anything to get it back. Secretly, he does have a thing for Eusine, but he’s too afraid to admit it. 💙 Wolf Grunt was kicked out of the house by their adopted father, Morty, and both know they don’t belong in Team Skull. Which they’re not. 💚 Like Eusine with Morty, N can’t go anywhere without Steven, and is lost without him. ❤️ Although AZ has finally reunited with his Floette, he is still fighting the old ghosts of his past, feeling great remorse & missing his brother greatly. 🖤 Although Lusamine is dead in my main verse, Guzma is plotting his revenge for what she did to him, starting with the destruction of Aether Paradise. He doesn’t really have a set plan (besides shooting everything), and if he carries his plans out now, he’ll be losing a lot more than Team Skull… (i.e. Ya boi’s gonna die, somebody stop him.)

i think it’s funny how the harmonia code basically forces you to use the same blood veil as eva, it has too little weight capacity for anything else and you get the same veil at a good upgrade level in the very same area
