The Power of Control
An essay on Victim
Spoilers for Animator vs. Animation VI - Ep 2
So, our dear boy Victim, of animator vs animation ONE fame, has officially returned.
We have been waiting half a year for this guy to return, and here he is. Now we finally get to see what he can really do in the only thing that matters in this series. How much ass can this stick kick?
Well, as it turns out, not a whole lot.
Victim is not a strong physical fighter. But, what he lacks in strength, he makes up in something else.
Control
The express purpose of this white box, is to ensure that he has full, and unambiguous, control. You could say that everything he has built is for the express purpose of control. He is the CEO of a gigantic, very well funded corporation, and is the boss of probably thousands of employees.
he has dedicated money and men towards researching and replicating animation tools to give him direct power over the world around him. He gave his top Merc the ability to Stop Time. His tech is all to extend his reach of control.
And this idea of control is shown no better than his signature weapon.
A lasso. An unusual choice at first but it makes perfect sense. Its entire point is to restrain, constrain, and control another.
Victim is not a powerful stick, its why he was initially never able to escape the flash program he was created in. How he got out, and how he survived is still unknown, but I'm sure future episodes will show us.
What we do know however, is that after all these years he has took to heart one thing. True power, is control. The more you have, the more powerful you are.
Which is why Alan nearly deleted him. Alan had the cursor, so he had control, which made him powerful.
Of course, that power has an equally potent weakness. When you lose your control, you lose your power.
The lasso he has wrapped around so many, breaks, and he loses control. Without control, he is vulnerable. Without control, he is powerless.
Its no wonder he seemed so scared when he learned what The Second Coming was truly capable of.
And now, Second has also learned what he can do.
So, what does he do? He tries to reestablish his precious control.
But unlike before, this control is flawed. He never knew what our dear orange could do, he never planned for it. His cage was likely never designed to hold someone as powerful as he is.
Victim may have locked him away, but its clear his grip on the situation has slipped. A lasso can only restrain what it can hold after all. When the rope snaps, when control is lost, he has nothing.
It makes sense why he would be after someone with more control than anyone.

The hyper-veneration and almost fetishization of the USA's troops have honestly given rise for some of the worst types of people who want power without effort, I think.
It's why you see some entitled asshole troop who think they can do whatever to civilians because we "owe" them for them "putting their lives on the line" or the type of person who thinks they personally will stick it to a random Afghan civilian for what "their people" did on 9/11 (a racist institution fostering racism? Colour me shocked (sarcasm)).
As a US citizen, I'm personally really concerned with this attitude we have toward troops. As somebody who hates the institution of the military, I also hate that it fosters a genuinely toxic mindset - it's much like the mindset that is instilled in cops; however, when you are overseas, the people you harm are not typically US civilians, so people can sweep under the rug the injustice of terrorizing civilians who aren't "like us."

forgive me my demons but i see this take so much and it drives me a little crazy . c!Sam is stupid, obviously. He has no self-awareness, he somehow completely misses on the fact that his actions have social ramifications, he has a sense of entitlement a mile high and thinks that everyone automatically should fall in line and agree with his authority just because he decides that he has it. he navigates conversations with the grace of a wrecking ball because he assumes that everyone will agree with him being In The Right and therefore doesn't actually go for much more convincing half the time than "do what i say or you'll end up locked up in an inescapable prison." his moral compass is a roulette wheel and his justifications incomprehensible.
but at the same time, c!Sam is far from unintelligent. like, not just anyone was going to CREATE and then RUN pandora's fucking vault. he made a world eater ?? if there's like anyone on the server that could reasonably create shit to cause mass destruction across the server other than like the literal fucking nukes, then yeah it'd be him, see the world eater again. sure, he makes the craziest fucking assumptions off the fact that he's Right And Justified And The Ultimate Authority And Everyone Should Agree With That, but he's also able to lie and manipulate and gaslight and coerce and threaten pretty much without breaking a sweat if he ever deems doing so necessary for his own goals, and it's not like the methods by which he does so are like, all that clumsy either. like people absolutely bought his whole deal early on in the prison arc, believing him to be a well-meaning, burdened Warden doing Whatever It Takes for the good of the server, which did in large part have to do with how his character talked about the prison to others and such, etc. just because c!sam is crazy bonkers and expects his ex to forgive him chopping their arm off doesn't mean that he's completely incapable of being pretty damn convincing at some points.
and like, even more importantly, his being dumb really didn't make him ANY less intimidating. i'd argue that it made him A LOT WORSE, honestly! just because his moral bullshit is twisted up in knots doesn't mean that he's any less dangerous for it. c!sam is, honestly, from the top of my head, one of the most casual about being violent on the server, purely because he believes he has a Right to it. he believes that people owe him obedience by virtue of who he is. he threw several people into pandora's vault WITHOUT LIKE, ANYONE KNOWING just because he decided that they deserved to be put in prison. he kidnaps a toddler??? c!Sam really doesn't bend himself in half trying to justify things according to someone else's moral system; as he literally does in that one scene with c!Bad during the stream where they investigated Sam Bucket, he literally just. is the epitome of the guy that lets himself do shit because he has a self-written permit that says i do what i want. the only thing getting in the way of c!sam's bullshit is c!sam, and i think that people honestly chronically overestimate how much he holds himself back from horrific violence. he stabbed a teenager to Make A Point about his authority? he repeatedly threatens hannah, one of his own employees, because of things she did while being mind controlled--and then like, uses this to excuse himself of? workplace harassment? in the stream after techno escapes with dream, he literally MAKES UP A REASON to be really fucking angry at dream and then threatens TO TORTURE HIM over it. when new people joined the server he would threaten them with a sword for asking questions about the prison in a way that seemed too 'dream sympathetic.' and he regularly tells people that he would commit all the atrocities again, including ponk, because he's entirely 100% convinced that everything he does is justified?
and a lot of the stuff people hold against him, like. sure, his plan to contain technoblade didnt work, but it SURE DID WORK BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE THAT TRIED, DIDNT IT? like techno would've been decently screwed if he didn't have a statis chamber set up. and well, the situation with dream speaks for itself--he was stuck in there for ten months. a lot of what people attribute to c!Sam's stupidity really does very little if anything to make him less scary--less effective, maybe, but for every time his moral bullshit gets in the way of him getting something that he wants there's probably a few other times you can find where his ability to justify himself out of anything makes him do something fucking ridiculous . anyway i dont even have a point to all of this except c!sam is scary as fuck bro

I think one thing that is very important but very overlooked when talking about the Red Team is that they have been a very reactive team.
They have never taken the first step, done the lap before the others. They are, from day one, just reacting to the actions of the others, following the tune set as they interpret it.
And don't get me wrong they are some mean little fuckers and they take a lot of pleasure into terrorizing people and just generally being overly bloodthirsty, they have no problem destroying shit and doing ambushes just for the laughs. They are very dangerous, more than they believe themselves to be, and they are all too willing to play the game and not listen to reason sometimes.
But in no fucking way they started the bloodshed or condemned anyone.
Blue Team shed first blood.
They kick started the killing of each other, Team Red only reacted to that. They got killed, over and over again not even in battle, they got spawn killed and hunted in day one by both teams so of course they went with the mentality that killing was fair game, that it was alright to set traps and rob the corpses when everyone did that to them.
It was a coincidence that both Green and Blue managed to find them at the same time, we know they didn't have an alliance to kill Team Red, but they don't have that information, of course they developed an "us against the world" mentality when literally everyone on both teams were killing them.
Other teams started killing, Team Red just went head along and ran with it to the degree they are now. Those are some of the most fucked up people in the Island, all of them with previous murderous tendencies, the trauma of the first day and seeing the other teams just killing without regards just, in their minds, set the tune that that is how they would play the game.
And in the Egg Wars?
Team Green started the attack. They had an agreement of not killing the statue and Green never meant to kill it, they didn't land the finishing blow, but as I said in another post that doesn't fucking matter. Blue wasn't attacking anyone, they couldn't given how little players they had online, and neither was Red. Team Red only went to the kill when Blue's egg was taken out of the race and everything led to believe Green had done it.
They reacted to the situation as they saw it: Green attacked Blue's egg and then the egg died. Why would they believe Green would just chill out? They had no way of knowing or trusting Green if they tried to explain they didn't finish the statue.
They were absolutely fine with the idea of finishing the statue, they didn't hesitate for a second unlike Green, but they wouldn't have done it if someone else didn't kick start the whole thing.
Not to sound more of an apologist than I already did, but Team Red is just playing by the rules the others made, they aren't innocent in any way, I could go on and on about how they are losing themselves, but they have not started any of this shit.
If other teams wanted them to listen to reason.... Well many things could be different if bloodlust didn't blind them all.

on a sidenote tho as im scrolling the tag to get the buzz outta my system, im kinda really not liking how the fandom took the interestingly complex dynamic between a racist elf who no longer has the strength to care about anything other than revenge and the brown guy who canonically got forced to care for his every need and decided it was a cute yaoi ship. Like im not saying that the ship itself is bad because theres nuance to it ofc and its not a black-and-white take on things but going for the 'awww theyre boyfriends' take is really not the way to go about it if you ask me
