Land of Ash and Heart: You guys know by now how much I love this fic. It flashes back and forth between the Morrowind and Skyrim Solstheim DLCs and features weird atmospheric nonsense aplenty. Oh and Mjoll and Frea kiss.

Stage-Managed and Murdered: Sylvie the Nerevarine and Dagoth Ur hash out their prior relationship and all the issues they have with each other while getting reaaaallll sassy with it.

Kestrel MacDuff Writes a Bad Romance: This is the BG3 one I started writing accidentally and then fell in love with. What can I say? I love a dorky girl falling for a teddy bear man. It's practically all I know how to write.

All right! New liveblog begins today! Let's explore Dragon Age: The Veilguard!

I don't know how much progress I'm going to make on this first day, because I still need to hash out my character, but we kick off with a little intro cutscene before we get to the character creator, narrated by our old buddy Varric!

I knew him as Solas. Smart, thoughtful, loved to hear himself talk. But long ago, he had a different name - the Dread Wolf. Ancient elven god of lies, or heroic rebel against tyranny, depending on which story you believe. In his desperate fight against the corrupt elven gods, Solas imprisoned them, creating a Veil that split our world from the raw magic of the Fade. He had won, but the Veil cost the elves everything: their magic, their freedom, even their immortality. Now Solas wants to tear down that Veil and undo the damage he caused, even if that means our world has to burn.

Somebody's gotta stop him... and that's where you come in.

The truth is, it's been ages since I last played a Dragon Age game. There's probably a lot I don't remember, and a lot that I'm going to be re-learning from scratch. But I'm excited to dive into this and see the resolution of the story that was such a big part of my life for a very long time.

Hash: He's a trickster shapeshifter, alright? It's a classic for a reason. He's 150cm worth of pure chaos. I mean, he literally named himself after Hash browns, outlived the rest of his species by dint of being kicked out for being too irritating, and insists on a fake accent.

Iraela: Evil. Pure evil. But very dramatic. She rules in an evil castle and is permanently two steps from belting out a musical number. She's constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown, complete with shattering mirrors, and ate her fiancé :)

Katherine: The ultimate little shit. She is unafraid to snark at her vampire teacher, then bully the Fae who served her a gelato. She's also protective of her apprentice, and not evil. (Which is saying something compared to the others on this list)

Dave: He is just such a vibe. Bro is a fairly ancient vampire, looks like he stepped off a romantasy novel and works 12h shifts at a cornerstore where he has to mop dead exorcist blood off the floor. He just wants to get through the day, but the world is very against that plan.

Luna: She's basically a high school mean girl who never grew up, if a high school mean girl could mind control people and ruled over a cult. Her one braincell is dedicated to fashion, and she basically blunders through the plot of her novel, doing the right things for absolutely the wrong reason.

I have posted on art that has surpassed 10 notes by itself and lemme tell ya it's not rad seeing the art again, 188 notes, and 17 (9% ish) of them are reblogs!! way the frape!!!

That means about 89% of notes on that was likes!! (As 2% was relegated to replies)

Don't get me wrong, I hash tag live for the applause applause applause, and the art itself could be better done, but 9% of ALL interactions on that post. Was math I did that made me feel worse about myself. So two lessons

1. ARTISTS ADOOOORRREEE REBLOGS! it means you wanna share the thing we worked on! And that's awesome!

2. Do not do math on your art post to find out what percent of people reblogged your post with the mentality above. Does not feel good.

most active muse ( s ) : as of right now midna is my main gal! though i’ve been feeling very tempted to pick up lumine since it’s been awhile. i have a few other muses that are burning a hole in my pocket (along with an oc or two) but they’re either a) a passing fancy or b) i feel... way too embarrassed to even think about offering them to anyone. LOL.

experience / how many years : as if i didn’t feel old enough turning 30 in June LMAO... i would wager at LEAST twenty or so years at this point, but i’ve had a lot of irl things that took me away from writing for stretches at a time during all of that.

best experience : hooo this is hard... probably back when i was writing in my original fandom and i found a writing partner with an awesome au that i just clicked with really with. we don’t talk much any more but i still care for them deeply, and i loved working off their ideas. we even had a single thread that continued for MONTHS. wild to think that i had the mental stamina for that! also i was in a group chat (same muse) and someone mentioned that our thread (albeit a short one) felt very in character and i was just. beyond touched at the time. small things like getting asks and stuff were always a big treat too! (and still are!!)

rp pet peeves : when people don’t give me anything to work off of. rp is a two way street, and while i know not every reply has to be a novel or move the characters in a certain way every time, if i’m left carrying the scene on my own it dries up my interest very quickly. also, not fully rp related but over complicated blog themes. i love themes! coding is absolute wizardry to me and people who can make and/or edit stuff beautifully are magic! but if i have to highlight the page to try and see where links are or have to copy/paste text onto a text document due to eye straining colors? nah dog. i’m outtie.

plots or memes : i ADORE plotting! not every detail has to be hashed out but getting a feel for the direction for the rp or if there’s some sort of idea you’d like to talk about and experiment through writing? LET’S GOOOOO!! though that can also easily be brought up or be inspired by memes so! kinda both? is that an acceptable answer?? i’m admittedly prone to getting super hyped to talk about plots and then... have my mind go blank from a stage fright response, LMAO. so having memes to work off of can be INCREDIBLY handy for me. the two more or less go hand in hand in my book!

are you like your muse ( s ) : yes and no? IT’S A BIT HARD TO EXPLAIN. but at  least one thing midna and i share is that we care very deeply but expressing it, especially through words is. very difficult. or we make it more difficult than it should be. :,D at the very least i know for a fact ALL of them would disown me the minute i started spitting puns (which is very, VERY often.)

A note to authors

So I review fanfics. Where possible, I tag the author and so sometimes they might read the review. This is for the authors who do

I do these reviews because I feel like there's a lack of centralized reviewing in fanfiction. I want this blog to be that. I do understand however that sometimes reading a review isn't the nicest, especially because it involves a quantification.

I want my readers and the authors to know that my reviews are solely based on my own taste and they are not an attempt to hate bash. I try not to review books I dislike because I don't want the writer to come across it and feel discouraged.

I'm not measuring grammar, or any black and white metric. My reviews speak to my preferences, for example I dislike first person. Completely arbitrary and so you won't usually even find reviews of those books. I like slow builds, that's also a preference. Importantly, I only review completed books. Again, I miss out on a lot of awesome fics that are being written right now.

So me reviewing your book and giving it a score speaks to my taste alone.

Furthermore, if you want to chat about the review further or want me to take it down, you just need to shoot me a dm. Specifically a dm, I won't hash out things in comments.

as a small child i spent a lot of time in a midwife's house (hash tag older sibling things), and because the sort of people who are seeing a midwife in a house and not a doctor in an office generally already have children tagging along, she had toys hanging out for us to use while she worked. chief among these was a play kitchen with a ton of dishes from several different sets. i spent the entirety of every single appointment my mother had with her silently organizing these tiny dishes into the tiny cabinets. the midwife repeatedly said we were her favorite appointment because of this.

these were foundational memories i think. i have spent my entire life chasing the high of organizing toys while an authority figure talks about how awesome it is that i do that.
